Topological magnetic materials are expected to show multiple transport responses because of their unusual bulk electronic topology in momentum space and topological spin texture in real space. However, such multiple topological properties-hosting materials are rare in nature. In this work, we reveal the coexistence of a large tunable anomalous Hall effect and topological magnetic skyrmions in a Weyl nodal ring ferromagnet Mn5Ge3, by using electrical transport and Lorentz transmission electronic microscope (TEM) measurements. It was found that the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity (AHC) can reach up to 979.7 S/cm with current along [120] and magnetic field along [001] of the Mn5Ge3 single crystals. Our theoretical calculations reveal that the large AHC is closely related with two Weyl nodal rings in band structure near the Fermi level and is strongly modified by the content of Ge. Moreover, our Lorentz-TEM images and micromagnetic simulation results, together with the sizable topological Hall effect clearly point to the robust formation of magnetic skyrmions over a wide temperature-magnetic field region. These results prove Mn5Ge3 as a rare magnetic topological nodal-line semimetal with great significance to explore novel multiple topological phenomena, which facilitates the development of spintronics., Comment: 38 pages, 22 figures

Owing to the unique features of low Gilbert damping, long spin-diffusion lengths and zero Ohmic losses, magnetic insulators are promising candidate materials for next-generation spintronic applications. However, due to the localized magnetic moments and the complex metal-oxide interface between magnetic insulators and heavy metals, spin-functional Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions or spin Hall and Edelstein effects are weak, which diminishes the performance of these typical building blocks for spintronic devices. Here, we exploit the exchange coupling between metallic and insulating magnets for efficient electrical manipulation of heavy metal/magnetic insulator heterostructures. By inserting a thin Co layer, we enhance the spin-orbit torque efficiency by more than 20 times, which significantly reduces the switching current density. Moreover, we demonstrate field-free current-induced magnetization switching caused by a symmetry-breaking non-collinear magnetic texture. Our work launches magnetic insulators as an alternative platform for low-power spintronic devices.

Two-dimensional arrays of magnetically coupled nanomagnets provide a mesoscopic platform for exploring collective phenomena as well as realizing a broad range of spintronic devices. In particular, the magnetic coupling plays a critical role in determining the nature of the cooperative behaviour and providing new functionalities in nanomagnet-based devices. Here, we create coupled Ising-like nanomagnets in which the coupling between adjacent nanomagnetic regions can be reversibly converted between parallel and antiparallel through solid-state ionic gating. This is achieved with the voltage-control of magnetic anisotropies in a nanosized region where the symmetric exchange interaction favours parallel alignment and the antisymmetric exchange interaction, namely the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, favours antiparallel alignment. Applying this concept to a two-dimensional lattice, we demonstrate a voltage-controlled phase transition in artificial spin ices. Furthermore, we achieve an addressable control of the individual couplings and realize an electrically programmable Ising network, which opens up new avenues to design nanomagnet-based logic devices and neuromorphic computers

We report the observation of magnetoresistance (MR) originating from the orbital angular momentum transport (OAM) in a Permalloy (Py) / oxidized Cu (Cu*) heterostructure: the orbital Rashba-Edelstein magnetoresistance. The angular dependence of the MR depends on the relative angle between the induced OAM and the magnetization in a similar fashion as the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR). Despite the absence of elements with large spin-orbit coupling, we find a sizable MR ratio, which is in contrast to the conventional SMR which requires heavy elements. By varying the thickness of the Cu* layer, we confirm that the interface is responsible for the MR, suggesting that the orbital Rashba-Edelstein effect is responsible for the generation of the OAM. Through Py thickness-dependence studies, we find that the effective values for the spin diffusion and spin dephasing lengths of Py are significantly larger than the values measured in Py / Pt bilayers, approximately by the factor of 2 and 4, respectively. This implies that another mechanism beyond the conventional spin-based scenario is responsible for the MR observed in Py / Cu* structures originated in a sizeable transport of OAM. Our findings not only unambiguously demonstrate the current-induced torque without using any heavy element via the OAM channel but also provide an important clue towards the microscopic understanding of the role that OAM transport can play for magnetization dynamics., Comment: 11 pages,3 figures

We introduce deep learning models to the two most important stages in product search at JD.com, one of the largest e-commerce platforms in the world. Specifically, we outline the design of a deep learning system that retrieves semantically relevant items to a query within milliseconds, and a pairwise deep re-ranking system, which learns subtle user preferences. Sr$_2$CuTeO$_6$ is a square-lattice N\'eel antiferromagnet with superexchange between first-neighbor $S=1/2$ Cu spins mediated by plaquette centered Te ions. Substituting Te by W, the affected impurity plaquettes have predominantly second-neighbor interactions, thus causing local magnetic frustration. Here we report a study of Sr$_2$CuTe$_{1-x}$W$_x$O$_6$ using neutron diffraction and $\mu$SR techniques, showing that the N\'eel order vanishes already at $x = 0.025 \pm 0.005$. We explain this extreme order suppression using a two-dimensional Heisenberg spin model, demonstrating that a W-type impurity induces a deformation of the order parameter that decays with distance as $1/r^2$ at temperature $T=0$. The associated logarithmic singularity leads to loss of order for any $x>0$. Order for small $x>0$ and $T>0$ is induced by weak interplane couplings. In the nonmagnetic phase of Sr$_2$CuTe$_{1-x}$W$_x$O$_6$, the $\mu$SR relaxation rate exhibits quantum critical scaling with a large dynamic exponent, $z \approx 3$, consistent with a random-singlet state., Comment: 6 pages + 6 pages supplemental material

Multiferroic materials are potential to be applied in novel magnetoelectric devices, for example, high-density non-volatile storage. Last decades, research on multiferroic materials was focused on three-dimensional (3D) materials. However, 3D materials suffer from the dangling bonds and quantum tunneling in the nano-scale thin films. Two-dimensional (2D) materials might provide an elegant solution to these problems, and thus are highly on demand. Using first-principles calculations, we predict ferromagnetism and driven ferroelectricity in the monolayer and even a few-layers of CuCrP2S6. Although the total energy of the ferroelectric phase of monolayer is higher than that of the antiferroelectric phase, the ferroelectric phases can be realized by applying a large electric field. Besides the degrees of freedoms in the common multiferroic materials, the valley degree of freedom is also polarized according to our calculations. The spins, electric dipoles and valleys are coupled with each other as shown in the computational results. In experiment, we observe the out-of-plane ferroelectricity in a few-layer CuCrP2S6 (approximately 13 nm thick) at room temperature. 2D ferromagnetism of few-layers is inferred from magnetic hysteresis loops of the massively stacked nanosheets at 10 K. The experimental observations support our calculation very well. Our findings may provide a series of 2D materials for further device applications.

The crystal structure and magnetic properties of MnCoxFe1-xSi (x=0-0.5) compounds were investigated. With increasing Fe content, the unit cell changes anisotropically and the magnetic property evolves gradually: Curie temperature decreases continuously, the first-order metamagnetic transition from a low-temperature helical antiferromagnetic state to a high-temperature ferromagnetic state disappears gradually and then a spin-glass-like state and another antiferromagnetic state emerge in the low temperature region. The Curie transition leads to a moderate conventional entropy change. The metamagnetic transition not only yields a larger negative magnetocaloric effect at lower applied fields than in MnCoSi but also produces a very large temperature span (103 K for H=5 T) of delta S(T), which results in a large refrigerant capacity. These phenomena were explained in terms of crystal structure change and magnetoelastic coupling mechanism. The low-cost MnCo1-xFexSi compounds are promising candidates for near room temperature magnetic refrigeration applications because of the large isothermal entropy change and the wide working temperature span., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, 1 table
