Medical imaging has played a pivotal role in advancing and refining digital twin technology, allowing for the development of highly personalized virtual models that represent human anatomy and physiological functions. A key component in constructing these digital twins is the integration of high-resolution imaging data, such as MRI, CT, PET, and ultrasound, with sophisticated computational models. Advances in medical imaging significantly enhance real-time simulation, predictive modeling, and early disease diagnosis, individualized treatment planning, ultimately boosting precision and personalized care. Although challenges persist, such as the complexity of anatomical modeling, integrating various imaging modalities, and high computational demands, recent progress in imaging and machine learning has greatly improved the precision and clinical applicability of digital twins. This review investigates the role of medical imaging in developing digital twins across organ systems. Key findings demonstrate that improvements in medical imaging have enhanced the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of digital twins beyond traditional methods, particularly in imaging accuracy, treatment effectiveness, and patient outcomes. The review also examines the technical barriers that currently limit further development of digital twin technology, despite advances in medical imaging, and outlines future research avenues aimed at overcoming these challenges to unlock the full potential of this technology in precision medicine., Comment: 38 pages, 5 figures

The rapid advancement of AI technologies, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), is establishing a new paradigm for Business Intelligence (BI). Despite the emergence of pioneering work in enhancing BI systems with LLMs, we have identified the following three issues when deployed in real industrial scenarios: interaction limitations, performance bottlenecks, and functionality deficiencies. In this paper, we present SiriusBI, an end-to-end business intelligence system that is designed to address the three issues simultaneously. First, we propose an intelligent and application-oriented module called multi-round dialogue with querying, which aims to overcome the prevalent interaction limitations in current BI solutions. Next, to mitigate the performance bottlenecks caused by scenario migration, we introduce two SQL generation methods that strike a balance between accuracy and deployment costs. Finally, to tackle the practical challenges posed by functionality deficiencies, we develop an end-to-end workflow that covers the entire BI process, ensuring that SiriusBI delivers a robust and complete set of functionalities. As an independent cloud service in Tencent's data platform, SiriusBI has been applied across Tencent's finance, advertising, and cloud sectors, providing services to dozens of enterprise clients. Experiments on real-world datasets and practical applications in industrial BI scenarios demonstrate the practicality and effectiveness of SiriusBI. Lifelong few-shot customization for text-to-image diffusion aims to continually generalize existing models for new tasks with minimal data while preserving old knowledge. Current customization diffusion models excel in few-shot tasks but struggle with catastrophic forgetting problems in lifelong generations. In this study, we identify and categorize the catastrophic forgetting problems into two folds: relevant concepts forgetting and previous concepts forgetting. To address these challenges, we first devise a data-free knowledge distillation strategy to tackle relevant concepts forgetting. Unlike existing methods that rely on additional real data or offline replay of original concept data, our approach enables on-the-fly knowledge distillation to retain the previous concepts while learning new ones, without accessing any previous data. Second, we develop an In-Context Generation (ICGen) paradigm that allows the diffusion model to be conditioned upon the input vision context, which facilitates the few-shot generation and mitigates the issue of previous concepts forgetting. Extensive experiments show that the proposed Lifelong Few-Shot Diffusion (LFS-Diffusion) method can produce high-quality and accurate images while maintaining previously learned knowledge.

We present a new imaging system to support real-time tumor tracking for surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT). SGRT uses optical surface imaging (OSI) to acquire real-time surface topography images of the patient on the treatment couch. However, OSI cannot visualize internal anatomy. This study proposes an Advanced Surface Imaging (A-SI) framework to address this issue. In the proposed A-SI framework, a high-speed surface imaging camera consistently captures surface images during radiation delivery, and a CBCT imager captures single-angle X-ray projections at low frequency. The A-SI then utilizes a generative model to generate real-time volumetric images with full anatomy, referred to as Optical Surface-Derived cone beam computed tomography (OSD-CBCT), based on the real-time high-frequent surface images and the low-frequency collected single-angle X-ray projections. The generated OSD-CBCT can provide accurate tumor motion for precise radiation delivery. The A-SI framework uses a patient-specific generative model: physics-integrated consistency-refinement denoising diffusion probabilistic model (PC-DDPM). This model leverages patient-specific anatomical structures and respiratory motion patterns derived from four-dimensional CT (4DCT) during treatment planning. It then employs a geometric transformation module (GTM) to extract volumetric anatomy information from the single-angle X-ray projection. A simulation study with 22 lung cancer patients evaluated the A-SI framework supported by PC-DDPM. The results showed that the framework produced real-time OSD-CBCT with high reconstruction fidelity and precise tumor localization. This study demonstrates the potential of A-SI to enable real-time tumor tracking with minimal imaging dose, advancing SGRT for motion-associated cancers and interventional procedures.

Photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) marks a significant advancement over conventional energy-integrating detector (EID) CT systems. This review highlights PCCT's superior spatial and contrast resolution, reduced radiation dose, and multi-energy imaging capabilities, which address key challenges in radiotherapy, such as accurate tumor delineation, precise dose calculation, and treatment response monitoring. PCCT's improved anatomical clarity enhances tumor targeting while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. Additionally, metal artifact reduction (MAR) and quantitative imaging capabilities optimize workflows, enabling adaptive radiotherapy and radiomics-driven personalized treatment. Emerging clinical applications in brachytherapy and radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) show promising outcomes, although challenges like high costs and limited software integration remain. With advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and dedicated radiotherapy packages, PCCT is poised to transform precision, safety, and efficacy in cancer radiotherapy, marking it as a pivotal technology for future clinical practice.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize brachytherapy's clinical workflow. This review comprehensively examines the application of AI, focusing on machine learning and deep learning, in facilitating various aspects of brachytherapy. We analyze AI's role in making brachytherapy treatments more personalized, efficient, and effective. The applications are systematically categorized into seven categories: imaging, preplanning, treatment planning, applicator reconstruction, quality assurance, outcome prediction, and real-time monitoring. Each major category is further subdivided based on cancer type or specific tasks, with detailed summaries of models, data sizes, and results presented in corresponding tables. This review offers insights into the current advancements, challenges, and the impact of AI on treatment paradigms, encouraging further research to expand its clinical utility.

This work presents MotionCom, a training-free motion-aware diffusion based image composition, enabling automatic and seamless integration of target objects into new scenes with dynamically coherent results without finetuning or optimization. Traditional approaches in this area suffer from two significant limitations: they require manual planning for object placement and often generate static compositions lacking motion realism. MotionCom addresses these issues by utilizing a Large Vision Language Model (LVLM) for intelligent planning, and a Video Diffusion prior for motion-infused image synthesis, streamlining the composition process. Our multi-modal Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting with LVLM automates the strategic placement planning of foreground objects, considering their potential motion and interaction within the scenes. Complementing this, we propose a novel method MotionPaint to distill motion-aware information from pretrained video diffusion models in the generation phase, ensuring that these objects are not only seamlessly integrated but also endowed with realistic motion. Extensive quantitative and qualitative results highlight MotionCom's superiority, showcasing its efficiency in streamlining the planning process and its capability to produce compositions that authentically depict motion and interaction.

Background: Limited-angle (LA) dual-energy (DE) cone-beam CT (CBCT) is considered as a potential solution to achieve fast and low-dose DE imaging on current CBCT scanners without hardware modification. However, its clinical implementations are hindered by the challenging image reconstruction from LA projections. While optimization-based and deep learning-based methods have been proposed for image reconstruction, their utilization is limited by the requirement for X-ray spectra measurement or paired datasets for model training. Purpose: This work aims to facilitate the clinical applications of fast and low-dose DECBCT by developing a practical solution for image reconstruction in LA-DECBCT. Methods: An inter-spectral structural similarity-based regularization was integrated into the iterative image reconstruction in LA-DECBCT. By enforcing the similarity between the DE images, LA artifacts were efficiently reduced in the reconstructed DECBCT images. The proposed method was evaluated using four physical phantoms and three digital phantoms, demonstrating its efficacy in quantitative DECBCT imaging. Results: In all the studies, the proposed method achieves accurate image reconstruction without visible residual artifacts from LA-DECBCT projection data. In the digital phantom study, the proposed method reduces the mean-absolute-error (MAE) from 419 to 14 HU for the High-energy CBCT and 591 to 20 HU for the low-energy CBCT. Conclusions: The proposed method achieves accurate image reconstruction without the need for X-ray spectra measurement for optimization or paired datasets for model training, showing great practical value in clinical implementations of LA-DECBCT.

Objective: Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) are commonly used in MRI scans of patients with gliomas to enhance brain tumor characterization using T1-weighted (T1W) MRI. However, there is growing concern about GBCA toxicity. This study develops a deep-learning framework to generate T1-postcontrast (T1C) from pre-contrast multiparametric MRI. Approach: We propose the tumor-aware vision transformer (TA-ViT) model that predicts high-quality T1C images. The predicted tumor region is significantly improved (P < .001) by conditioning the transformer layers from predicted segmentation maps through adaptive layer norm zero mechanism. The predicted segmentation maps were generated with the multi-parametric residual (MPR) ViT model and transformed into a latent space to produce compressed, feature-rich representations. The TA-ViT model predicted T1C MRI images of 501 glioma cases. Selected patients were split into training (N=400), validation (N=50), and test (N=51) sets. Main Results: Both qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate that the TA-ViT model performs superior against the benchmark MRP-ViT model. Our method produces synthetic T1C MRI with high soft tissue contrast and more accurately reconstructs both the tumor and whole brain volumes. The synthesized T1C images achieved remarkable improvements in both tumor and healthy tissue regions compared to the MRP-ViT model. For healthy tissue and tumor regions, the results were as follows: NMSE: 8.53 +/- 4.61E-4; PSNR: 31.2 +/- 2.2; NCC: 0.908 +/- .041 and NMSE: 1.22 +/- 1.27E-4, PSNR: 41.3 +/- 4.7, and NCC: 0.879 +/- 0.042, respectively. Significance: The proposed method generates synthetic T1C images that closely resemble real T1C images. Diffusion models usher a new era of video editing, flexibly manipulating the video contents with text prompts. Despite the widespread application demand in editing human-centered videos, these models face significant challenges in handling complex objects like humans. In this paper, we introduce DeCo, a novel video editing framework specifically designed to treat humans and the background as separate editable targets, ensuring global spatial-temporal consistency by maintaining the coherence of each individual component. Specifically, we propose a decoupled dynamic human representation that utilizes a parametric human body prior to generate tailored humans while preserving the consistent motions as the original video. In addition, we consider the background as a layered atlas to apply text-guided image editing approaches on it. To further enhance the geometry and texture of humans during the optimization, we extend the calculation of score distillation sampling into normal space and image space. Moreover, we tackle inconsistent lighting between the edited targets by leveraging a lighting-aware video harmonizer, a problem previously overlooked in decompose-edit-combine approaches. Due to the scarcity of labeled data, self-supervised learning (SSL) has gained much attention in 3D medical image segmentation, by extracting semantic representations from unlabeled data. Among SSL strategies, Masked image modeling (MIM) has shown effectiveness by reconstructing randomly masked images to learn detailed representations. However, conventional MIM methods require extensive training data to achieve good performance, which still poses a challenge for medical imaging. Since random masking uniformly samples all regions within medical images, it may overlook crucial anatomical regions and thus degrade the pretraining efficiency. We propose AnatoMask, a novel MIM method that leverages reconstruction loss to dynamically identify and mask out anatomically significant regions to improve pretraining efficacy. AnatoMask takes a self-distillation approach, where the model learns both how to find more significant regions to mask and how to reconstruct these masked regions. To avoid suboptimal learning, Anatomask adjusts the pretraining difficulty progressively using a masking dynamics function. We have evaluated our method on 4 public datasets with multiple imaging modalities (CT, MRI, and PET). AnatoMask demonstrates superior performance and scalability compared to existing SSL methods. Purpose: Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps derived from diffusion weighted (DWI) MRI provides functional measurements about the water molecules in tissues. However, DWI is time consuming and very susceptible to image artifacts, leading to inaccurate ADC measurements. This study aims to develop a deep learning framework to synthesize ADC maps from multi-parametric MR images. Methods: We proposed the multiparametric residual vision transformer model (MPR-ViT) that leverages the long-range context of ViT layers along with the precision of convolutional operators. Residual blocks throughout the network significantly increasing the representational power of the model. The MPR-ViT model was applied to T1w and T2- fluid attenuated inversion recovery images of 501 glioma cases from a publicly available dataset including preprocessed ADC maps. Selected patients were divided into training (N=400), validation (N=50) and test (N=51) sets, respectively. Using the preprocessed ADC maps as ground truth, model performance was evaluated and compared against the Vision Convolutional Transformer (VCT) and residual vision transformer (ResViT) models. Results: The results are as follows using T1w + T2-FLAIR MRI as inputs: MPR-ViT - PSNR: 31.0 +/- 2.1, MSE: 0.009 +/- 0.0005, SSIM: 0.950 +/- 0.015. In addition, ablation studies showed the relative impact on performance of each input sequence. Both qualitative and quantitative results indicate that the proposed MR- ViT model performs favorably against the ground truth data. Conclusion: We show that high-quality ADC maps can be synthesized from structural MRI using a MPR- VCT model. Our predicted images show better conformality to the ground truth volume than ResViT and VCT predictions. Purpose: To propose a self-supervised deep learning-based compressed sensing MRI (DL-based CS-MRI) method named "Adaptive Self-Supervised Consistency Guided Diffusion Model (ASSCGD)" to accelerate data acquisition without requiring fully sampled datasets. Materials and Methods: We used the fastMRI multi-coil brain axial T2-weighted (T2-w) dataset from 1,376 cases and single-coil brain quantitative magnetization prepared 2 rapid acquisition gradient echoes (MP2RAGE) T1 maps from 318 cases to train and test our model. Robustness against domain shift was evaluated using two out-of-distribution (OOD) datasets: multi-coil brain axial postcontrast T1 -weighted (T1c) dataset from 50 cases and axial T1-weighted (T1-w) dataset from 50 patients. Data were retrospectively subsampled at acceleration rates R in {2x, 4x, 8x}. ASSCGD partitions a random sampling pattern into two disjoint sets, ensuring data consistency during training. We compared our method with ReconFormer Transformer and SS-MRI, assessing performance using normalized mean squared error (NMSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity index (SSIM). Statistical tests included one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multi-comparison Tukey's Honesty Significant Difference (HSD) tests. Results: ASSCGD preserved fine structures and brain abnormalities visually better than comparative methods at R = 8x for both multi-coil and single-coil datasets. It achieved the lowest NMSE at R in {4x, 8x}, and the highest PSNR and SSIM values at all acceleration rates for the multi-coil dataset. Similar trends were observed for the single-coil dataset, though SSIM values were comparable to ReconFormer at R in {2x, 8x}. These results were further confirmed by the voxel-wise correlation scatter plots. OOD results showed significant (p << 10^-5 ) improvements in undersampled image quality after reconstruction.

Background: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, performed fractionally (e.g., daily or weekly), are widely utilized for patient alignment in the image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) process, thereby making it a potential imaging modality for the implementation of adaptive radiotherapy (ART) protocols. Nonetheless, significant artifacts and incorrect Hounsfield unit (HU) values hinder their application in quantitative tasks such as target and organ segmentations and dose calculation. Therefore, acquiring CT-quality images from the CBCT scans is essential to implement online ART in clinical settings. Purpose: This work aims to develop an unsupervised learning method using the patient-specific diffusion model for CBCT-based synthetic CT (sCT) generation to improve the image quality of CBCT. Methods: The proposed method is in an unsupervised framework that utilizes a patient-specific score-based model as the image prior alongside a customized total variation (TV) regularization to enforce coherence across different transverse slices. The score-based model is unconditionally trained using the same patient's planning CT (pCT) images to characterize the manifold of CT-quality images and capture the unique anatomical information of the specific patient. The efficacy of the proposed method was assessed on images from anatomical sites including head and neck (H&N) cancer, pancreatic cancer, and lung cancer. The performance of the proposed CBCT correction method was evaluated using quantitative metrics including mean absolute error (MAE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and normalized cross-correlation (NCC). Additionally, the proposed algorithm was benchmarked against two other unsupervised diffusion model-based CBCT correction algorithms.

Sparse triangular solve (SpTRSV) is widely used in various domains. Numerous studies have been conducted using CPUs, GPUs, and specific hardware accelerators, where dataflow can be categorized into coarse and fine granularity. Coarse dataflow offers good spatial locality but suffers from low parallelism, while fine dataflow provides high parallelism but disrupts the spatial structure, leading to increased nodes and poor data reuse. This paper proposes a novel hardware accelerator for SpTRSV or SpTRSV-like DAGs. The accelerator implements a medium granularity dataflow through hardware-software codesign and achieves both excellent spatial locality and high parallelism. Additionally, a partial sum caching mechanism is introduced to reduce the blocking frequency of processing elements (PEs), and a reordering algorithm of intra-node edges computation is developed to enhance data reuse. Experimental results on 264 benchmarks with node counts reaching up to 85,392 demonstrate that this work achieves average performance improvements of 12.2$\times$ (up to 874.5$\times$) over CPUs and 10.1$\times$ (up to 740.4$\times$) over GPUs. Compared to the state-of-the-art technique (DPU-v2), this work shows a 2.5$\times$ (up to 5.9$\times$) average performance improvement and 1.8$\times$ (up to 4.1$\times$) average energy efficiency enhancement.

Large-scale diffusion models have achieved remarkable performance in generative tasks. Beyond their initial training applications, these models have proven their ability to function as versatile plug-and-play priors. For instance, 2D diffusion models can serve as loss functions to optimize 3D implicit models. Rectified flow, a novel class of generative models, enforces a linear progression from the source to the target distribution and has demonstrated superior performance across various domains. Compared to diffusion-based methods, rectified flow approaches surpass in terms of generation quality and efficiency, requiring fewer inference steps. In this work, we present theoretical and experimental evidence demonstrating that rectified flow based methods offer similar functionalities to diffusion models - they can also serve as effective priors. Besides the generative capabilities of diffusion priors, motivated by the unique time-symmetry properties of rectified flow models, a variant of our method can additionally perform image inversion. Experimentally, our rectified flow-based priors outperform their diffusion counterparts - the SDS and VSD losses - in text-to-3D generation. We previously developed a FLASH planning framework for streamlined pin-ridge-filter (pin-RF) design, demonstrating its feasibility for single-energy proton FLASH planning. In this study, we refined the pin-RF design for easy assembly using reusable modules, focusing on its application in liver SABR. This framework generates an intermediate IMPT plan and translates it into step widths and thicknesses of pin-RFs for a single-energy FLASH plan. Parameters like energy spacing, monitor unit limit, and spot quantity were adjusted during IMPT planning, resulting in pin-RFs assembled using predefined modules with widths from 1 to 6 mm, each with a WET of 5 mm. This approach was validated on three liver SABR cases. FLASH doses, quantified using the FLASH effectiveness model at 1 to 5 Gy thresholds, were compared to conventional IMPT (IMPT-CONV) doses to assess clinical benefits. The highest demand for 6 mm width modules, moderate for 2-4 mm, and minimal for 1- and 5-mm modules were shown across all cases. At lower dose thresholds, the two-beam case showed significant dose reductions (>23%), while the other two three-beam cases showed moderate reductions (up to 14.7%), indicating the need for higher fractional beam doses for an enhanced FLASH effect. Positive clinical benefits were seen only in the two-beam case at the 5 Gy threshold. At the 1 Gy threshold, the FLASH plan of the two-beam case outperformed its IMPT-CONV plan, reducing dose indicators by up to 28.3%. However, the three-beam cases showed negative clinical benefits at the 1 Gy threshold, with some dose indicators increasing by up to 16% due to lower fractional beam doses and closer beam arrangements. This study evaluated the feasibility of modularizing streamlined pin-RFs in single-energy proton FLASH planning for liver SABR, offering guidance on optimal module composition and strategies to enhance FLASH planning.

In this work, we introduce a novel approach for creating controllable dynamics in 3D-generated Gaussians using casually captured reference videos. Our method transfers the motion of objects from reference videos to a variety of generated 3D Gaussians across different categories, ensuring precise and customizable motion transfer. We achieve this by employing blend skinning-based non-parametric shape reconstruction to extract the shape and motion of reference objects. This process involves segmenting the reference objects into motion-related parts based on skinning weights and establishing shape correspondences with generated target shapes. To address shape and temporal inconsistencies prevalent in existing methods, we integrate physical simulation, driving the target shapes with matched motion. This integration is optimized through a displacement loss to ensure reliable and genuine dynamics. Our approach supports diverse reference inputs, including humans, quadrupeds, and articulated objects, and can generate dynamics of arbitrary length, providing enhanced fidelity and applicability. This study aims to develop a digital twin (DT) framework to enhance adaptive proton stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for prostate cancer. Prostate SBRT has emerged as a leading option for external beam radiotherapy due to its effectiveness and reduced treatment duration. However, interfractional anatomy variations can impact treatment outcomes. This study seeks to address these uncertainties using DT concept, with the goal of improving treatment quality, potentially revolutionizing prostate radiotherapy to offer personalized treatment solutions. Our study presented a pioneering approach that leverages DT technology to enhance adaptive proton SBRT. The framework improves treatment plans by utilizing patient-specific CTV setup uncertainty, which is usually smaller than conventional clinical setups. This research contributes to the ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of prostate radiotherapy, with ultimate goals of improving patient outcomes and life quality.

This paper aims to create a deep learning framework that can estimate the deformation vector field (DVF) for directly registering abdominal MRI-CT images. The proposed method assumed a diffeomorphic deformation. By using topology-preserved deformation features extracted from the probabilistic diffeomorphic registration model, abdominal motion can be accurately obtained and utilized for DVF estimation. The model integrated Swin transformers, which have demonstrated superior performance in motion tracking, into the convolutional neural network (CNN) for deformation feature extraction. The model was optimized using a cross-modality image similarity loss and a surface matching loss. To compute the image loss, a modality-independent neighborhood descriptor (MIND) was used between the deformed MRI and CT images. The surface matching loss was determined by measuring the distance between the warped coordinates of the surfaces of contoured structures on the MRI and CT images. The deformed MRI image was assessed against the CT image using the target registration error (TRE), Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), and mean surface distance (MSD) between the deformed contours of the MRI image and manual contours of the CT image. When compared to only rigid registration, DIR with the proposed method resulted in an increase of the mean DSC values of the liver and portal vein from 0.850 and 0.628 to 0.903 and 0.763, a decrease of the mean MSD of the liver from 7.216 mm to 3.232 mm, and a decrease of the TRE from 26.238 mm to 8.492 mm. The proposed deformable image registration method based on a diffeomorphic transformer provides an effective and efficient way to generate an accurate DVF from an MRI-CT image pair of the abdomen. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has revolutionized medical imaging, providing a non-invasive and highly detailed look into the human body. However, the long acquisition times of MRI present challenges, causing patient discomfort, motion artifacts, and limiting real-time applications. To address these challenges, researchers are exploring various techniques to reduce acquisition time and improve the overall efficiency of MRI. One such technique is compressed sensing (CS), which reduces data acquisition by leveraging image sparsity in transformed spaces. In recent years, deep learning (DL) has been integrated with CS-MRI, leading to a new framework that has seen remarkable growth. DL-based CS-MRI approaches are proving to be highly effective in accelerating MR imaging without compromising image quality. This review comprehensively examines DL-based CS-MRI techniques, focusing on their role in increasing MR imaging speed. We provide a detailed analysis of each category of DL-based CS-MRI including end-to-end, unroll optimization, self-supervised, and federated learning. Our systematic review highlights significant contributions and underscores the exciting potential of DL in CS-MRI. Additionally, our systematic review efficiently summarizes key results and trends in DL-based CS-MRI including quantitative metrics, the dataset used, acceleration factors, and the progress of and research interest in DL techniques over time. Finally, we discuss potential future directions and the importance of DL-based CS-MRI in the advancement of medical imaging. Although fusion of information from multiple views of mammograms plays an important role to increase accuracy of breast cancer detection, developing multi-view mammograms-based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) schemes still faces challenges and no such CAD schemes have been used in clinical practice. To overcome the challenges, we investigate a new approach based on Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP), which has sparked interest across various medical imaging tasks. By solving the challenges in (1) effectively adapting the single-view CLIP for multi-view feature fusion and (2) efficiently fine-tuning this parameter-dense model with limited samples and computational resources, we introduce Mammo-CLIP, the first multi-modal framework to process multi-view mammograms and corresponding simple texts. Mammo-CLIP uses an early feature fusion strategy to learn multi-view relationships in four mammograms acquired from the CC and MLO views of the left and right breasts. To enhance learning efficiency, plug-and-play adapters are added into CLIP image and text encoders for fine-tuning parameters and limiting updates to about 1% of the parameters. For framework evaluation, we assembled two datasets retrospectively. The first dataset, comprising 470 malignant and 479 benign cases, was used for few-shot fine-tuning and internal evaluation of the proposed Mammo-CLIP via 5-fold cross-validation. The second dataset, including 60 malignant and 294 benign cases, was used to test generalizability of Mammo-CLIP. Study results show that Mammo-CLIP outperforms the state-of-art cross-view transformer in AUC (0.841 vs. 0.817, 0.837 vs. 0.807) on both datasets. It also surpasses previous two CLIP-based methods by 20.3% and 14.3%. This study highlights the potential of applying the finetuned vision-language models for developing next-generation, image-text-based CAD schemes of breast cancer.

Benefiting from the rapid development of 2D diffusion models, 3D content creation has made significant progress recently. One promising solution involves the fine-tuning of pre-trained 2D diffusion models to harness their capacity for producing multi-view images, which are then lifted into accurate 3D models via methods like fast-NeRFs or large reconstruction models. However, as inconsistency still exists and limited generated resolution, the generation results of such methods still lack intricate textures and complex geometries. To solve this problem, we propose Magic-Boost, a multi-view conditioned diffusion model that significantly refines coarse generative results through a brief period of SDS optimization ($\sim15$min). Compared to the previous text or single image based diffusion models, Magic-Boost exhibits a robust capability to generate images with high consistency from pseudo synthesized multi-view images. It provides precise SDS guidance that well aligns with the identity of the input images, enriching the local detail in both geometry and texture of the initial generative results. Extensive experiments show Magic-Boost greatly enhances the coarse inputs and generates high-quality 3D assets with rich geometric and textural details. Federated Split Learning (FSL) is a promising distributed learning paradigm in practice, which gathers the strengths of both Federated Learning (FL) and Split Learning (SL) paradigms, to ensure model privacy while diminishing the resource overhead of each client, especially on large transformer models in a resource-constrained environment, e.g., Internet of Things (IoT). However, almost all works merely investigate the performance with simple neural network models in FSL. Despite the minor efforts focusing on incorporating Vision Transformers (ViT) as model architectures, they train ViT from scratch, thereby leading to enormous training overhead in each device with limited resources. Therefore, in this paper, we harness Pre-trained Image Transformers (PITs) as the initial model, coined FedV, to accelerate the training process and improve model robustness. Furthermore, we propose FedVZ to hinder the gradient inversion attack, especially having the capability compatible with black-box scenarios, where the gradient information is unavailable. Concretely, FedVZ approximates the server gradient by utilizing a zeroth-order (ZO) optimization, which replaces the backward propagation with just one forward process. Empirically, we are the first to provide a systematic evaluation of FSL methods with PITs in real-world datasets, different partial device participations, and heterogeneous data splits. Our experiments verify the effectiveness of our algorithms.

Background: Dual-energy imaging on cone-beam CT (CBCT) scanners has great potential in different clinical applications, including image-guided surgery and adaptive proton therapy. However, the clinical practice of dual-energy CBCT (DE-CBCT) has been hindered by the requirement of sophisticated hardware components. Purpose: In this work, we aim to propose a practical solution for single-scan dual-energy imaging on current CBCT scanners without hardware modifications, using two complementary limited-angle scans with a projection-consistent diffusion model. Methods: Our approach has two major components: data acquisition using two complementary limited-angle scans, and dual-energy projections restoration with subsequent FDK reconstruction. Two complementary scans at different kVps are performed in a single rotation by switching the tube voltage at the middle of the source trajectory, acquiring the mixed-spectra projection in a single CBCT scan. Full-sampled dual-energy projections are then restored by a projection-consistent diffusion model in a slice-by-slice manner, followed by the DE-CBCT reconstruction using the FDK algorithm. Results: The proposed method was evaluated in a simulation study of digital abdomen phantoms and a study of real rat data. In the simulation study, the proposed method produced DE-CBCT images at a mean absolute error (MAE) of 20 HU. In the small-animal study, reconstructed DE-CBCT images using the proposed method gave an MAE of 25 HU. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the feasibility of DE-CBCT imaging using two complementary limited-angle scans with a projection-consistent diffusion model in both half-fan and short scans. The proposed method may allow quantitative applications of DE-CBCT and enable DE-CBCT-based adaptive proton therapy.

Explanation supervision aims to enhance deep learning models by integrating additional signals to guide the generation of model explanations, showcasing notable improvements in both the predictability and explainability of the model. However, the application of explanation supervision to higher-dimensional data, such as 3D medical images, remains an under-explored domain. Challenges associated with supervising visual explanations in the presence of an additional dimension include: 1) spatial correlation changed, 2) lack of direct 3D annotations, and 3) uncertainty varies across different parts of the explanation. To address these challenges, we propose a Dynamic Uncertainty-aware Explanation supervision (DUE) framework for 3D explanation supervision that ensures uncertainty-aware explanation guidance when dealing with sparsely annotated 3D data with diffusion-based 3D interpolation. Our proposed framework is validated through comprehensive experiments on diverse real-world medical imaging datasets. Recent works on text-to-3d generation show that using only 2D diffusion supervision for 3D generation tends to produce results with inconsistent appearances (e.g., faces on the back view) and inaccurate shapes (e.g., animals with extra legs). Existing methods mainly address this issue by retraining diffusion models with images rendered from 3D data to ensure multi-view consistency while struggling to balance 2D generation quality with 3D consistency. In this paper, we present a new framework Sculpt3D that equips the current pipeline with explicit injection of 3D priors from retrieved reference objects without re-training the 2D diffusion model. Specifically, we demonstrate that high-quality and diverse 3D geometry can be guaranteed by keypoints supervision through a sparse ray sampling approach. Moreover, to ensure accurate appearances of different views, we further modulate the output of the 2D diffusion model to the correct patterns of the template views without altering the generated object's style. These two decoupled designs effectively harness 3D information from reference objects to generate 3D objects while preserving the generation quality of the 2D diffusion model. Extensive experiments show our method can largely improve the multi-view consistency while retaining fidelity and diversity. This paper focuses on renormalizable cosmology based on the Gauss-Bonnet theory with torsion. Within the framework of renormalizable quantum field theory, we study the matter field containing the Gauss-Bonnet correction term. By modifying the gauge model, which includes a charged scalar field and two families of fermions, and introducing torsion and Gauss-Bonnet corrections, we analyze the field equations in the super-symmetric hybrid inflation model, investigate the properties of torsion in a flat universe, the characteristics of the energy-momentum tensor, and the sensitivity of the theoretical model to correction parameters. This study shows that the Gauss-Bonnet correction term can directly affect the Hubble constant through the Einstein equations, providing a new observational perspective. This paper proposes a cosmological model that can be adjusted according to different Gauss-Bonnet correction models, providing a theoretical reference for future observational verification of various Gauss-Bonnet models.

This study aims to evaluate the functional status of bilateral neurovascular bundles (NVBs) using pulsed wave Doppler ultrasound in patients undergoing prostate radiotherapy (RT). Sixty-two patients (mean age: 66.1 +/- 7.2 years) underwent transrectal ultrasound scan using a conventional ultrasound scanner, a 7.5 MHz bi-plane probe and a mechanical stepper. The ultrasound protocol comprised 3 steps: 1) 3D B-mode scans of the entire prostate, 2) localization of NVBs using color flow Doppler imaging, and 3) measurement of NVB function using pulsed wave Doppler. Five pulsed Doppler waveform features were extracted: peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), mean velocity (Vm), resistive index (RI), and pulsatile index (PI). In summary, this study presents a Doppler evaluation of NVBs in patients undergoing prostate RT. It highlights substantial differences in Doppler ultrasound waveform features between bilateral NVBs. The proposed ultrasound method may prove valuable as clinicians strive to deliver NVB-sparing RT to preserve sexual function effectively and enhance patients' overall well-being., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

We propose a unified framework aimed at enhancing the diffusion priors for 3D generation tasks. Despite the critical importance of these tasks, existing methodologies often struggle to generate high-caliber results. We begin by examining the inherent limitations in previous diffusion priors. We identify a divergence between the diffusion priors and the training procedures of diffusion models that substantially impairs the quality of 3D generation. To address this issue, we propose a novel, unified framework that iteratively optimizes both the 3D model and the diffusion prior. Leveraging the different learnable parameters of the diffusion prior, our approach offers multiple configurations, affording various trade-offs between performance and implementation complexity. Notably, our experimental results demonstrate that our method markedly surpasses existing techniques, establishing new state-of-the-art in the realm of text-to-3D generation. Furthermore, our approach exhibits impressive performance on both NeRF and the newly introduced 3D Gaussian Splatting backbones. Additionally, our framework yields insightful contributions to the understanding of recent score distillation methods, such as the VSD and DDS loss.

3D editing plays a crucial role in many areas such as gaming and virtual reality. Traditional 3D editing methods, which rely on representations like meshes and point clouds, often fall short in realistically depicting complex scenes. On the other hand, methods based on implicit 3D representations, like Neural Radiance Field (NeRF), render complex scenes effectively but suffer from slow processing speeds and limited control over specific scene areas. In response to these challenges, our paper presents GaussianEditor, an innovative and efficient 3D editing algorithm based on Gaussian Splatting (GS), a novel 3D representation. GaussianEditor enhances precision and control in editing through our proposed Gaussian semantic tracing, which traces the editing target throughout the training process. Additionally, we propose Hierarchical Gaussian splatting (HGS) to achieve stabilized and fine results under stochastic generative guidance from 2D diffusion models. We also develop editing strategies for efficient object removal and integration, a challenging task for existing methods. Our comprehensive experiments demonstrate GaussianEditor's superior control, efficacy, and rapid performance, marking a significant advancement in 3D editing. Background: Dual-energy CT (DECT) and material decomposition play vital roles in quantitative medical imaging. However, the decomposition process may suffer from significant noise amplification, leading to severely degraded image signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). While existing iterative algorithms perform noise suppression using different image priors, these heuristic image priors cannot accurately represent the features of the target image manifold. Although deep learning-based decomposition methods have been reported, these methods are in the supervised-learning framework requiring paired data for training, which is not readily available in clinical settings. Purpose: This work aims to develop an unsupervised-learning framework with data-measurement consistency for image-domain material decomposition in DECT.

Visual explanation (attention)-guided learning uses not only labels but also explanations to guide model reasoning process. While visual attention-guided learning has shown promising results, it requires a large number of explanation annotations that are time-consuming to prepare. However, in many real-world situations, it is usually desired to prompt the model with visual attention without model retraining. For example, when doing AI-assisted cancer classification on a medical image, users (e.g., clinicians) can provide the AI model with visual attention prompt on which areas are indispensable and which are precluded. Despite its promising objectives, achieving visual attention-prompted prediction presents several major challenges: 1) How can the visual prompt be effectively integrated into the model's reasoning process? 2) How should the model handle samples that lack visual prompts? 3) What is the impact on the model's performance when a visual prompt is imperfect? This paper introduces a novel framework for attention-prompted prediction and learning, utilizing visual prompts to steer the model's reasoning process. To improve performance in non-prompted situations and align it with prompted scenarios, we propose a co-training approach for both non-prompted and prompted models, ensuring they share similar parameters and activations. Additionally, for instances where the visual prompt does not encompass the entire input image, we have developed innovative attention prompt refinement methods. These methods interpolate the incomplete prompts while maintaining alignment with the model's explanations. Extensive experiments on four datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed framework in enhancing predictions for samples both with and without prompt.

Radiotherapy aims to deliver a prescribed dose to the tumor while sparing neighboring organs at risk (OARs). Increasingly complex treatment techniques such as volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and proton therapy have been developed to deliver doses more precisely to the target. While such technologies have improved dose delivery, the implementation of intra-fraction motion management to verify tumor position at the time of treatment has become increasingly relevant. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has demonstrated great potential for real-time tracking of tumors during treatment. However, AI-based motion management faces several challenges including bias in training data, poor transparency, difficult data collection, complex workflows and quality assurance, and limited sample sizes. This review serves to present the AI algorithms used for chest, abdomen, and pelvic tumor motion management/tracking for radiotherapy and provide a literature summary on the topic. The distributed data analytic system -- Spark is a common choice for processing massive volumes of heterogeneous data, while it is challenging to tune its parameters to achieve high performance. Recent studies try to employ auto-tuning techniques to solve this problem but suffer from three issues: limited functionality, high overhead, and inefficient search. In this paper, we present a general and efficient Spark tuning framework that can deal with the three issues simultaneously. First, we introduce a generalized tuning formulation, which can support multiple tuning goals and constraints conveniently, and a Bayesian optimization (BO) based solution to solve this generalized optimization problem. Second, to avoid high overhead from additional offline evaluations in existing methods, we propose to tune parameters along with the actual periodic executions of each job (i.e., online evaluations). To ensure safety during online job executions, we design a safe configuration acquisition method that models the safe region. Finally, three innovative techniques are leveraged to further accelerate the search process: adaptive sub-space generation, approximate gradient descent, and meta-learning method. We have implemented this framework as an independent cloud service, and applied it to the data platform in Tencent. The empirical results on both public benchmarks and large-scale production tasks demonstrate its superiority in terms of practicality, generality, and efficiency. Notably, this service saves an average of 57.00% memory cost and 34.93% CPU cost on 25K in-production tasks within 20 iterations, respectively.

Objective: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has been a commonly used imaging modality in broad clinical applications. One of the most important tradeoffs in PET imaging is between image quality and radiation dose: high image quality comes with high radiation exposure. Improving image quality is desirable for all clinical applications while minimizing radiation exposure is needed to reduce risk to patients. Approach: We introduce PET Consistency Model (PET-CM), an efficient diffusion-based method for generating high-quality full-dose PET images from low-dose PET images. It employs a two-step process, adding Gaussian noise to full-dose PET images in the forward diffusion, and then denoising them using a PET Shifted-window Vision Transformer (PET-VIT) network in the reverse diffusion. The PET-VIT network learns a consistency function that enables direct denoising of Gaussian noise into clean full-dose PET images. PET-CM achieves state-of-the-art image quality while requiring significantly less computation time than other methods. Results: In experiments comparing eighth-dose to full-dose images, PET-CM demonstrated impressive performance with NMAE of 1.278+/-0.122%, PSNR of 33.783+/-0.824dB, SSIM of 0.964+/-0.009, NCC of 0.968+/-0.011, HRS of 4.543, and SUV Error of 0.255+/-0.318%, with an average generation time of 62 seconds per patient. This is a significant improvement compared to the state-of-the-art diffusion-based model with PET-CM reaching this result 12x faster. Similarly, in the quarter-dose to full-dose image experiments, PET-CM delivered competitive outcomes, achieving an NMAE of 0.973+/-0.066%, PSNR of 36.172+/-0.801dB, SSIM of 0.984+/-0.004, NCC of 0.990+/-0.005, HRS of 4.428, and SUV Error of 0.151+/-0.192% using the same generation process, which underlining its high quantitative and clinical precision in both denoising scenario.

Recent strides in Text-to-3D techniques have been propelled by distilling knowledge from powerful large text-to-image diffusion models (LDMs). Nonetheless, existing Text-to-3D approaches often grapple with challenges such as over-saturation, inadequate detailing, and unrealistic outputs. This study presents a novel strategy that leverages explicitly synthesized multi-view images to address these issues. Our approach involves the utilization of image-to-image pipelines, empowered by LDMs, to generate posed high-quality images based on the renderings of coarse 3D models. Although the generated images mostly alleviate the aforementioned issues, challenges such as view inconsistency and significant content variance persist due to the inherent generative nature of large diffusion models, posing extensive difficulties in leveraging these images effectively. To overcome this hurdle, we advocate integrating a discriminator alongside a novel Diffusion-GAN dual training strategy to guide the training of 3D models. For the incorporated discriminator, the synthesized multi-view images are considered real data, while the renderings of the optimized 3D models function as fake data.
