The increasing frequency of global drought events poses a significant threat to the stability of grassland ecosystems' functionality. The Inner Mongolian grasslands stand out as one of the world's most drought-prone regions, facing elevated drought risks compared to other biomes. An in-depth comprehension of the impact of drought on grassland ecosystems is paramount for their long-term sustainability. Using the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) from 1982 to 2018, this study identified various drought events within the Inner Mongolian grasslands, encompassing moderate drought, severe drought, and extreme drought. The resistance of the vegetation to the different drought conditions, assessed through net primary productivity (NPP) as a metric (reflecting its capacity to maintain its original level during drought periods), was examined. The research findings indicated that the period from 2001 to 2018 witnessed a substantial increase in both the frequency and the extent of drought events compared to the period from 1982 to 2000, particularly concerning severe and extreme droughts. The areas most severely impacted by extreme drought were the Xilingol League and the Alxa League. From 1982–2000 to 2001–2018, under moderate drought conditions, vegetation resistance exhibited a minor decrease in the central and eastern regions but experienced a slight increase in the western region. In contrast, under severe drought conditions, the western region saw a significant decrease in vegetation resistance. Remarkably, under extreme drought conditions, the western region showed a substantial increase in vegetation resistance, while the central and eastern regions experienced a slight decrease. Across all three drought conditions, as precipitation levels declined, the resistance of the meadow–steppe–desert ecosystems demonstrated a high–low–high distribution pattern. The temperate desert steppe exhibited a minimal vulnerability to drought, boasting resistance levels exceeding 0.9. Notably, extreme drought had the most pronounced impact on the temperate meadow steppe, temperate steppe, and temperate desert steppe, particularly within the temperate meadow steppe category. Given these findings, the authorities responsible for grassland management should prioritize regions characterized by frequent drought occurrences and low drought resistance, such as Ulanqab City, the Xilingol League, and the western part of Hulun Buir City. Safeguarding steppe ecosystems is of paramount importance for stabilizing vegetation productivity and land carbon sinks, especially under the anticipated exacerbation of climate conditions in the future. Background. Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is an easily recognized abnormality of coronary artery anatomy and morphology. However, its pathogenesis remains unclear. Objectives. This study aimed to identify abnormal methylation-modified genes in patients with CAE, which could provide a research basis for CAE. Methods. Peripheral venous blood samples from patients with CAE were collected for RNA sequencing to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs), followed by functional enrichment. Then, the DNA methylation profile of CAE was downloaded from GSE87016 (HumanMethylation450 BeadChip data, involving 11 cases and 12 normal controls) to identify differentially methylated genes (DMGs). Finally, after taking interaction genes between DEGs and DMGs, abnormal methylation-modified genes were identified, followed by protein–protein interaction analysis and expression validation using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Results. A total of 152 DEGs and 4318 DMGs were obtained from RNA sequencing and the GSE87016 dataset, respectively. After taking interaction genes, 9 down-regulated DEGs due to hypermethylation and 11 up-regulated DEGs due to hypomethylation were identified in CAE. A total of 10 core abnormal methylation-modified genes were identified, including six down-regulated DEGs due to hypermethylation (netrin G1, ADAM metallopeptidase domain 12, immunoglobulin superfamily member 10, sarcoglycan dela, Dickkopf WNT signaling pathway inhibitor 3, and GATA binding protein 6), and four up-regulated DEGs due to hypomethylation (adrenomedullin, ubiquitin specific peptidase 18, lymphocyte antigen 6 family member E, and MX dynamin-like GTPase 1). Some signaling pathways were identified in patients with CAE, including cell adhesion molecule, O-glycan biosynthesis, and the renin–angiotensin system. Conclusions. Achieving ecological conservation and governance based on ecosystem services (ESs) can balance regional ecological protection and development, which is of great significance for sustainable development. Existing research has mainly focused on the extraction of priority ecological conservation areas, thereby neglecting to consider the classification and management of ecological engineering areas. To improve regional ecological governance, we combine ESs and dust movement trajectory, using the Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm Source Control Project (BTSSCP) as the research object to generate watersheds' ecological governance zones. Six ESs were assessed to determine ecological zones. Trajectory simulation of dust movement, using the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model and potential source contribution function, was used to determined zones affected by dust. By combining these two aspects, five main ecological governance clusters were identified. We found that: (1) the area with low ESs in the northwest of the BTSSCP suffered from severe dust impacts; (2) slight dust-affected zones were mainly distributed in the eastern of the BTSSCP, and in the area, ESs gradually decreased from south to north; (3) ESs in the region was primarily influenced by natural factors and the influencing factors of ESs vary among different zones. These findings will not only contribute to the overall planning and governance of the BTSSCP, but can offer general guidance for the formulation of targeted ecological protection and restoration measures in other areas. • Remote sensing was used to monitor plateau wetland ecological degradation. • A composite wetland degradation index was constructed to assess wetland degradation quantitatively. • We analyzed ecological degradation process with three administrative levels. The Zoige Plateau Wetland is the largest high-altitude swamp wetland in China. It plays a key role in ecological balance and the global change. Climate change and improper utilization have consequently resulted in decreased wetland area, disrupted ecosystem structure, and wetland function degradation and function loss. The Zoige Plateau Wetland thus faces severe ecological degradation problems. In this study, selecting the Zoige Plateau Wetland as the study area, remote sensing was used to track the ecological degradation process during 2000–2015 from three aspects (area degradation, structure degradation and function degradation) and at three administrative levels (study area, county and key township). To assess the wetland degradation quantitatively, an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to construct a composite wetland degradation index based on five indicators: wetland area change rate, landscape fractal dimension, landscape fragmentation, vegetation biomass and vegetation coverage. The results showed the following. (1) In terms of area change rate, the total wetland area had continuously decreased during 2000–2015 compared to that in the 1990s, and 2010 was the most significant. The frequency of negative change in the wetland area reached 87.5% in all four counties and across four time periods (2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015), and 85% at the township level. At the spatial scale, Hongyuan County had the smallest wetland area change rate. (2) In terms of structure change, the variations in landscape fractal dimension and landscape fragmentation generally exhibited similar trends at different levels. Specifically, the ecosystem structure was seriously affected in 2000, then gradually recovered in 2005 and 2010, and was again under aggravated interference in 2015. (3) In terms of function change, the above-ground biomass yield in the northeastern region was higher than that in the southern region. A low value was detected in 2000, and then the value increased and remained essentially the same in 2005 and 2010. However, the value decreased in 2015, indicating deteriorated vegetation condition. The vegetation coverage in the study area remained steady, without deterioration in a particular year. (4) In terms of the whole study area, the wetland degradation grades in the four periods were mild (2000), moderate (2005), mild (2010) and mild (2015). In brief, the wetland degradation was the most severe in 2005. Over the 2000–2015 period, the spatial degradation pattern of the Zoige Plateau Wetland progressed from the northeast to the southwest. Changed land use patterns are the most direct manifestation of ecological engineering implemented by humans, being among the driving factors for changes in ecosystem services (ESs). However, different ecological engineering governance measures can lead to different changes in land use, resulting in corresponding changes to ESs and ecosystem service value (ESV), yet these changes is the content that needs to be clarified. In this study, four kinds of ESs, namely water yield, soil conservation, carbon storage and water purification, were quantified in part region of the Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm Source Control Project (BTSSCP). In addition, eight scenarios were simulated according to the land use change caused by engineering management measures, and the ESs and ESV ensuing under these differing scenarios quantified accordingly. The results show that the main land use types in the study area from 2000 to 2020 were cropland and forestland, while during this period land use change mainly consisted of the expansion of grassland (+466.79 km2) and loss of cropland (−2095.27 km2). For different engineering management measures, protective governance will play a greater role in improving ESs than restoration governance. Protecting the existing governance outcomes from degrading can maintain a water yield of 36.85 × 108 m3, soil conservation of 73.72 × 106 t, carbon storage of 89.01 × 106 t, the purified water nitrogen content of 1.21 × 106 t, with the total ESV maintained at 54.237 billion yuan. Moreover, the high-investment counties clearly engage in ecological restoration that provides high ESV. Yet, there are still some counties with high project investment where the gains in ESV are low, such as Luanping county and Pingquan county. Therefore, it should be reasonably distributed based on the existing governance results in the next round of project investment allocation. In the past 20 years, engineering governance measures have significantly improved the ESs in the region. Nevertheless, looking ahead, it remains necessary to strengthen the emphasis on protecting governance outcomes. TiO 2 nanotube arrays (TiO 2 NTAs) were firstly used as photoanode in methylammonium lead iodide (CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 ) perovskite/TiO 2 NTAs heterojunction solar cell, where CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 functions as both light absorber and hole conductor. The composition, structure and photoelectrochemical properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized by x-ray diffractometer (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), ultraviolet-visible (UV–vis) spectrophotometer and electrochemical workstation. The results indicate that the as-prepared CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 belongs to the cubic crystal system, and TiO 2 NTAs sensitized by 0.3 M CH 3 NH 3 I and PbI 2 exhibit the best photoelectrochemical properties with an open-circuit voltage of 0.422 V and a short-circuit current density of 173.4 μA cm −2 . The EIS result shows that the extremely large resistance at CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 /FTO interface contributes to the low current density of the perovskite solar cell. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Changes in land use and landscapes have a direct impact on the regional eco-environment. It is of great importance to understand the change pattern of land use, landscapes, and their mechanism on the ecological quality, especially ecologically fragile areas. The northern sand-prevention belt (NSPB) is an important ecologically fragile area in China, which has a large influence on the ecological security of the entire country. Based on the land use data of the NSPB in 2000, 2010, and 2018, we studied the spatio-temporal characteristics of land-use change and change in landscape patterns. The ecological quality represented by the remote sensing-based desertification index (RSDI) was calculated using satellite images. The effects of land use and landscape patterns on RSDI were analyzed by geographic detector and geographically weighted regression. Important results include the following: (1) Land-use change in the study area was high during 2000–2010 but slower in 2010–2018. Grassland was the largest land-use type in the NSPB, and varied greatly in terms of total change and spatial location. The major change was the conversion between dense and moderate grass, with 64,860 km2 of dense grass turning into moderate grass, and 48,505 km2 changing the other way. (2) Among the four landscape metrics, patch density, area-weighted mean fractal dimension, and edge density increased, whereas the aggregation index decreased, which indicated that the landscape was developing towards heterogeneity, fragmentation, complexity, and aggregation. Spatially, the landscape metrics presented a strip distribution in the east of the NSPB. (3) The effects of various land-use types on ecological quality, from high to low, were unused land, woodland, dense grass, cropland, moderate grass, built-up land, sparse grass, and waterbody. The areas where the ecological quality was greatly affected by the landscape patterns were concentrated in the agro-pastoral ecotone and the forest-steppe ecotone. Influences of preparation conditions on the formation and depth dispersion of Ag nanoparticles in soda – lime silicate glass were systematically studied by using ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectrophotometer, X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), electron microprobe analyzer (EMA) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results indicate that the dispersed depth of Ag nanoparticles mainly depends on the diffusion depth of Ag + ions in the ion-exchanged glass, and Ag nanoparticles have a reduced volume-filling fraction (VFF) along the depth. The VFF of Ag nanoparticles increases with increasing the concentration of Ag + ions in the glass, the annealed temperature and/or the annealed duration. Ag nanoparticles form easier in Fe-containing glass than in Fe-free glass. Annealing the ion-exchanged glass in H 2 atmosphere favors the formation of Ag nanoparticles at a lower temperature and a shorter duration than in air. Ag nanoparticles display a narrow size distribution of 1–6 nm in the annealed sample in air and a broad size distribution of 1–30 nm in the annealed sample in H 2 atmosphere. Grassland vegetation growth directly reflects plant growth conditions, and growth processes are an important component of ecological status assessments of grasslands and can provide timely guidance for agricultural production. In this study, the Xilingol Grassland in Inner Mongolia was used as the study area, and a monitoring indicator system for the remote sensing of grassland vegetation growth was established based on 16 days of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data and ground sampling data, which were used to assess the suitability of the indicator system. A monitoring indicator system for the remote sensing of grassland vegetation that included the modified growth index (MGI)-normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), MGI-enhanced vegetation index (EVI), growth index (GI)-NDVI, and GI-EVI was established by using the year 2000 as the base year, two vegetation indices and difference and normalized difference methods. A model for estimating the ground growth (g) was then constructed by using expert opinion scoring and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the weights of vegetation coverage (c), height (h), and yield (y) in the ground plots, with the model calculated as follows:g = 0.2543c + 0.1848 h + 0.5609y. Additionally, the ground growth value was calculated according to the ground growth model, and the values obtained from the remote-sensing indicators in the corresponding region were subjected to a correlation analysis based on this partition. The remote-sensing growth indices suitable for temperate steppe, meadow steppe, and desert steppe regions were GI-EVI, MGI-NDVI, and GI-NDVI, respectively. Finally, vegetation growth in the Xilingol Grassland was evaluated using the optimal remote-sensing GI for each area, and the results indicated that the areas with the greatest growth improvement occurred in the temperate steppe region followed by the meadow steppe region, whereas vegetation growth improvement was insignificant in the desert steppe region. The results of this study have important significance for the economic development and ecological environmental improvement of pastoral and semi-pastoral regions and can be used to determine the optimal use and scientific management of grasslands. Grassland is not only an important landscape of the Beijing–Tianjin sandstorm source control project area, but also a significant object of the Beijing–Tianjin sandstorm source control project. By taking the situation in 2000 as the base of comparison and using the established grassland vegetation growth model, the monitoring and evaluation of grassland vegetation dynamic variation in the project area from 2000 to 2010 was conducted based on MODIS 16 days NDVI data. The conclusions are as follows: (1) The comparative result of average growth between each year from 2001 to 2010 and the base year was on the good side in general; the grassland growth was good both in the early and later periods of grassland growth peak season than in the first years of the project implementation, indicating that the implementation of the Beijing–Tianjin sandstorm source project has significantly improved the growth conditions of grassland vegetation; (2) With regard to the annual dynamic variation of grassland growth, the area proportions of the grasslands, of which the average grassland growth was on the good side, fluctuated and increased slightly with the time changes in general. The area proportions of the grasslands, of which the average grassland growth was on the bad side, fluctuated and decreased in general. The area proportions of the grasslands with normal growth showed an increasing overall trend; (3) From the regional perceptive on four zones, including the northern arid grassland desertification control zone, Hunshandake sandy land control zone, the farming-pastoral area of desertified land control zone, and the water conservation zone of Yanshan hills and mountains, except that the grassland growth in the farming-pastoral area of desertified land control zone was bad, the average growth of other three zones was good each year from 2001 to 2010 compared with the base year. (4) In respect of space, the regions with big grassland growth variation in the project area were concentrated in the western and eastern sections of the northern arid grassland desertification control zone and the western section of Hunshandake sandy land control zone. The grassland growth variation in the water conservation zone of Yanshan hills and mountains and the farming-pastoral area of desertified land control zone were relatively stable. On one hand, the conclusions of this paper can evaluate the effectiveness of the project control, on the other hand, it can also provide scientific basics to grassland management departments, facilitate the rational utilization of grassland, and preserve the regional ecological balance. A nearly 100% filling of PEDOT in TiO 2 nanotube array (NTA) was successfully prepared by a simple electropolymerization method at a constant potential of 1.8 V, which was demonstrated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). UV–vis diffusion reflection spectroscopy (DRS) revealed that the filling of PEDOT in TiO 2 NTA can dramatically improve the visible-light and near-infra-red absorption property of the TiO 2 NTA, which is especially useful for the application of solar cells. Cyclic voltammetry experiments indicate that the PEDOT–TiO 2 NTA hybrid material is electrochemically more active than the TiO 2 NTA and has excellent redox reversibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Temperature and precipitation are considered to be the most important indicators affecting the green-up date. Sensitivity of the green-up date to temperature and precipitation is considered to be one of the key indicators to characterize the response of terrestrial ecosystems to climate change. We selected the main grassland types for analysis, including temperate steppe, temperate meadow steppe, upland meadow, and lowland meadow. This study investigates the variation in key meteorological indicators (daily maximum temperature (Tmax), daily minimum temperature (Tmin), and precipitation) between 2001 and 2018. We then examined the partial correlation and sensitivity of green-up date (GUD) to Tmax, Tmin, and precipitation. Our analysis indicated that the average GUD across the whole area was DOY 113. The mean GUD trend was −3.1 days/decade and the 25% region advanced significantly. Tmax and Tmin mainly showed a decreasing trend in winter (p > 0.05). In spring, Tmax mainly showed an increasing trend (p > 0.05) and Tmin a decreasing trend (p > 0.05). Precipitation showed no significant (p > 0.05) change trend and the trend range was ±10 mm/decade. For temperate steppe, the increase in Tmin in March promotes green-up (27.3%, the proportion of significant pixels), with a sensitivity of −0.17 days/°C. In addition, precipitation in April also promotes green-up (21.7%), with a sensitivity of −0.32 days/mm. The GUDs of temperate meadow steppe (73.9%), lowland meadow (65.9%), and upland meadow (22.1%) were mainly affected by Tmin in March, with sensitivities of −0.15 days/°C, −0.13 days/°C, and −0.14 days/°C, respectively. The results of this study reveal the response of vegetation to climate warming and contribute to improving the prediction of ecological changes as temperatures increase in the future. Cu-Ag nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by one-pot solvothermal treatment of a mixture of AgNO and Cu(OAc)·HO in ethylene glycol solution at 180 °C for 10 h. The samples were characterized by UV-visible absorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results showed that Cu-Ag nanoparticles and a small amount of phase-separated Cu-Ag alloy nanoparticles with an average diameter of 100 ± 30 nm were synthesized by the solvothermal treatment procedure. Abstract: State and local governments in China have implemented a series of grassland protection policies to address the problem of grassland degradation. In 2003, Ningxia was the first province to implement a province-wide grazing ban. The effect of this ban is contentious at all levels of government and has become a topic of public concern. Grassland desertification is the most direct indicator of the effect of the grazing ban. We selected 14 counties and cities in north-central Ningxia as the study area. A desertification classification and grading system for Ningxia's grassland was then designed based on fieldwork and expert review. Using the Spectral Mixture Analysis (SMA) and decision-tree methods, we interpreted Landsat TM/ETM+ images of the study area during four years: 1993, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The following results were obtained: from 1993 to 2011, the area of desertified grassland in north-central Ningxia decreased gradually from 8702km2 in 1993 to 7485km2 in 2011, a decrease of 13.98%; the degree of desertification gradually decreased from 3573km2 of severely desertified grassland in 1993 to 1450km2 in 2011, a decrease of 59.41%; desertified grassland vegetation was restored rapidly during 2000–2006 and 2006–2011, reducing the total area of desertified grassland annually by 1.87 and 0.61%, respectively; finally, the area of severely desertified grassland decreased annually by 5.78 and 6.28% during 2000–2006 and 2006–2011, respectively. These results show that the region-wide grazing ban, together with other ecological engineering measures, has helped reverse desertification and promote the restoration of grassland vegetation. • The RSDI is suitable for monitoring aeolian desertification. • The areas with significant restoration (34.1%) exceeded those with significant deterioration (6%) in the NSPB. • In the areas with significant restoration, 57.4% of the land was mainly affected by human activities. The northern sand-prevention belt (NSPB) is the key area for sand control in China, and the various ecological projects conducted there are important to the Chinese strategy for ecological security. In this paper, a new remote sensing-based desertification index (RSDI) based on principal component analysis was constructed from four aspects of vegetation greenness, surface moisture, soil grain size, and surface radiation. The overall evaluation accuracy of the index was 89.2%, and the kappa coefficient was 0.80, indicating high sensitivity to different degrees of aeolian desertification and suitability for multiscale research. The coefficient of variation, Mann–Kendall test, Theil–Sen median trend analysis, and residual analysis were used to analyze the spatiotemporal changes and driving forces of the RSDI in the NSPB from 2000 to 2020. The RSDI was used to compare aeolian desertification in different subregions, land use types, and ecological project areas. The important results are as follows: (1) the trend of the average RSDI was downward, but it increased significantly in 2008–2009 and 2013–2014; (2) the RSDI was characterized by relatively high volatility in 28.9% and moderate volatility in 27.1% of the area; (3) the areas with significant restoration (34.1%) greatly exceeded those with significant deterioration (6%), whereas 59.9% of the total area was stable; and (4) within the area with significant restoration, 57.4% was primarily affected by human activities, and 42.4% was primarily affected by climate change; however, most of the area with significant deterioration (71.1%) was affected by human activities. In general, the degree of aeolian desertification in the NSPB has decreased in the past 20 years and its ecological quality has continued to recover. Abstract: CdTe and ZnS quantum dots sensitized TiO2 nanotube array photoelectrodes were prepared by depositing CdTe and ZnS QDs on the tube walls of the self-organized TiO2 NTs using successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. The deposition of CdTe and ZnS on the upper and inner surface of the TiO2 NTs was confirmed by field emission scanning electron (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopes (TEM). The obtained results indicated that TiO2 NTs photoelectrodes sensitized by CdTe quantum dots for 5 cycles exhibited excellent photoelectrochemical properties, with an open-circuit voltage of 0.95V and a short circuit current density of 11.15mAcm−2, and ZnS coating protected the photoelectrodes against photocorrosion. Abstract: The Ag and CdS nanoparticles co-sensitization of TiO2 nanotubes (CdS–Ag/TiO2 NTs) were prepared by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. The phase composition, morphology and optical property were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV–vis diffusion reflection spectroscopy (DRS). The co-modification of Ag and CdS nanoparticles expanded the photoresponse range of TiO2 NTs from ultraviolet region to 668.7nm, and the CdS–Ag/TiO2 NTs prepared by SILAR deposition of 5 cycles exhibited higher visible photocurrent and stability against photocorrosion. The detailed electrons transfer mechanism of CdS–Ag/TiO2 NTs was proposed, and photocatalytic activity toward degradation of methyl orange (MO) under visible-light irradiation was also investigated. Abstract: Ordered anatase TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2 NTs) on Ti substrate were synthesized by electrochemical anodization and subsequently vapor-thermal treatment. Ag nanoparticles were decorated on TiO2 NTs by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. Raman spectroscopy, X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used for the characterization of surface morphology, phase composition, and microstructure of the original TiO2 NTs, the vapor-thermally treated TiO2 NTs and the Ag nanoparticles decorated TiO2 NTs. The results indicate that vapor-thermal treatment favors to the transformation of amorphous TiO2 into anatase phase. Increasing the SILAR cycle times favors to increase the loaded amounts of Ag nanoparticles in TiO2 NTs. Ag nanoparticles are uniformly distributed in the TiO2 NTs, and the SILAR process does not damage the ordered tubular structure. A possible formation mechanism of Ag/TiO2 NTs has also been proposed. The photocatalytic results showed that the Ag nanoparticle modified TiO2 NTs largely enhanced the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange under ultraviolet light irradiation. Abstract: Nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide mesosponge was fabricated by transformation of TiO2 nanotube arrays using a facial solvothermal method. Abstract: Anatase titanium dioxide (TiO2) mesoporous microspheres with core–shell and hollow structure were successfully prepared on a large scale by a one-step template-free chemical vapor deposition method. The effects of various reaction conditions on the morphology, composition and structure of the products were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) technique and photoluminescence (PL) method. The results indicate that the product near the source was composed of core–shell structure TiO2 microspheres with diameters from 3 to 5μm. With increasing the distance between the source materials and the substrate, the hollow TiO2 spheres with 1–2μm dominant the products. A localized Ostwald ripening can be use to explain the formation of core–shell and hollow structures, and the size of the initial TiO2 solid nanoparticles plays an important role in determining the evacuation manner of the solid in the ripening-induced hollowing process. The surface area of TiO2 hollow microspheres determined by the adsorption isotherms was measured to be 74.67m2/g. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed that the O–H peaks of hollow structures have a chemical shift compared with the core–shell structures. Abstract: Single crystalline CdTe branched nanowires and well-aligned nanorod arrays were simultaneously synthesized by a simple chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) and selected area electronic diffraction (SAED) were used to study the crystalline structure, composition and morphology of different samples. Vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) and vapor–solid (VS) processes were proposed for the formation of the CdTe branched nanowires and nanorod arrays, respectively. As-grown CdTe nanorod arrays show a strong red emission band centered at about 620nm, which can be well fitted by two Gaussian curves centered at 610nm and 635nm, respectively. AgS nanoparticle nanowires were prepared in a porous anodic aluminum oxide template by a simple paired cell method, and were characterized by XRD, FESEM, HRTEM and EDS. The results showed that the as-prepared nanowires were composed of monoclinic AgS nanoparticles. The nanowire diameters ranged from 165 to 270 nm, and AgS nanoparticles were nearly spherical with diameters of 40 to 60 nm. The paired cell method is simple, low cost and easy to control for the fabrication of high density and high aspect ratio AgS nanoparticle nanowires. Abstract: Sb2O3 nanorod-bundles with length of about 4μm were fabricated in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) by a simple hydrothermal method. The composition, morphology, microstructure and optical property of the as-prepared bundles were characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM and Raman spectrum. The results showed that the nanorod-bundles were composed of massive orthorhombic phase Sb2O3 nanorods grown along [001] direction. It was speculated that the nanorod-bundles developed through self-assembly of initially scattered nuclei into microdisks and subsequent oriented attachment process. Ag nanoparticles embedded in soda-lime silicate glass were fabricated by ion-exchange and subsequently annealing method. Z-scan technique, femtosecond time-resolved optical Kerr effect (OKE) technique and femtosecond pump-probe experiment were used to investigate the effects of laser wavelength and laser pulse duration as well as annealing temperature on the third-order optical nonlinearity and ultrafast dynamics of the composites. It was found that the third-order susceptibility of Ag nanoparticles composite glass measured by 400 nm pulse source is larger than that measured by 800 nm pulse source due to an enhancement effect of local field near surface plasmon resonance of Ag nanoparticles in silicate glass. The third-order optical nonlinearity measured by ns laser source is about two orders of magnitude larger than that measured from fs pulse. The annealing temperature has an important effect on the third-order optical nonlinearity and ultrafast dynamics of the composites. Third-order nonlinear susceptibility up to 10-10 esu and fast relaxation process up to 0.2 ps have been obtained in Ag nanoparticles doped glass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Northern China has been long threatened by aeolian desertification. In recent years, all levels of the Chinese government have performed a series of ecological protection and sand control projects. To grasp the implementation effects of these projects and adjust policies in time, it is necessary to understand the process of aeolian desertification quickly and accurately. Remote sensing technologies play an irreplaceable role in aeolian desertification monitoring. In this study, the Zhenglan Banner, which is in the hinterland of the Hunshandake Sandy Land, was considered as the research area. Based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images, ground survey data, and Landsat images called in Google Earth Engine (GEE), the aeolian desertified land (ADL) in 2000, 2004, 2010, 2015, and 2019 was extracted using spectral mixture analysis. A desertification index (DI) was constructed to evaluate the spatial and temporal dynamics of the ADL in the Zhenglan Banner. Finally, a residual analysis explored the driving forces of aeolian desertification. The results showed that (1) the ADL area in the Zhenglan Banner has been trending downwards over the past 20 years but rebounded from 2004 to 2010; (2) over the past 20 years, the area of slightly, moderately, and severely desertified land has decreased at annual rates of 0.4%, 2.7%, and 3.4%, respectively; (3) human activities had significantly positive and negative impacts on the aeolian desertification trend for 20.0% and 21.0% of the study area, respectively, but not for the rest. The accumulation of heat and moderate precipitation are the primary factors that are used by grasslands to trigger a green-up date. The accumulated growing degree-days (AGDD) requirement over the preseason is an important indicator of the response of grassland spring phenology to climate change. This study adopted the Normalized Difference Phenology Index (NDPI), which derived from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), to extract annual green-up dates in the Hulun Buir grassland in China between 2001–2015. Our analysis indicated that the range (standard deviation) and trend for the green-up date were DOY (day of year) 104 to DOY 144 (10.6 days) and −2.0 days per decade. Nine point two percent of the study area had significant (p < 0.05) changes in AGDD requirements. The partial correlations between the AGDD requirements and chilling days (67.04%, pixels proportion) were negative and significant (p < 0.05). The partial correlations between the AGDD requirement and precipitation (28.87%) were positive and significant (p < 0.05). Finally, the partial correlation between the AGDD requirement and insolation (97.65%) were positive and significant (p < 0.05). The results of this study could reveal the response of vegetation to climate warming and contribute to improving the phenological mechanism model of different grassland types in future research. The capacitance of MnO2 supercapacitors (SCs) is not high as expected due to its low conductivity of MnO2. The synergistic effects of MnO2 with high theoretical specific capacitance and TiN with high theoretical conductivity can extremely enhance the electrochemical performance of the MnO2-TiN electrode material. In this work, we synthesized different nanostructured and crystalline-structured MnO2 modified TiN nanotube arrays electrode materials by hydrothermal method and explained the formation mechanism of different nanostructured and crystalline-structured MnO2. The influences of MnO2 nanostructures and crystalline-structures on the electrochemical performance has been contrasted and discussed. The specific capacitance of δ-MnO2 nanosheets-TiN nanotube arrays can reach 689.88 F g−1, the highest value among these samples TN-MO-SS, TN-MO-S, TN-MO-SR, TN-MO-RS, and TN-MO-R. The reason is explained based on MnO2 nanostructure and crystalline-structure and electron/ion transport properties. The specific capacitance retention rates are 97.2% and 82.4% of initial capacitance after 100 and 500 cycles, respectively, indicating an excellent charging-discharging cycle stability. Land use/land cover change (LUCC) is the most direct driving force of landscape pattern change. The Zoige Plateau is a natural ecosystem with the largest high-altitude swamp wetland in China and its land use pattern has undergone great changes in recent years, but how the changes of each land use type affect the landscape pattern is uncertain. Here, we used the object-oriented method to extract land use information in 2015. Then, combined with land use data, the land use change characteristics from 2000 to 2015 were analyzed. We used the correlation analysis method to analyze the effects of land use changes on landscape pattern systematically. Three key conclusions were reached. (1) Land use information for the Zoige Plateau could be extracted with high accuracy by combining the object-oriented method and support vector machine (SVM). The overall accuracy was 93.2% and the Kappa coefficient was 0.889. (2) The comprehensive dynamic degree of land use was the highest from 2010 to 2015. From 2000 to 2015, the wetland area decreased the fastest because 57.05% of the wetlands were transferred out. Construction land increased the fastest, and the transferred in area from grassland and farmland were the main reason. (3) The effects of unused land, farmland, and construction land on the overall landscape pattern were stronger than that of the other types, among which farmland had the most significant impact (with a correlation coefficient of 0.959, p < 0.001). The change of unused land was the most highly significant factor associated with the landscape area pattern, and both the water body and unused land showed strong correlations with landscape shape pattern change. This suggested that the effects of land use types occupying a relatively small area on the landscape pattern were intensified. [Display omitted] Structural information of grassland changes on the Tibetan Plateau is essential for understanding alterations in critical ecosystem functioning and their underlying drivers that may reflect environmental changes. However, such information at the regional scale is still lacking due to methodological limitations. Beyond remote sensing indicators only recognizing vegetation productivity, we utilized multivariate data fusion and deep learning to characterize formation-based plant community structure in alpine grasslands at the regional scale of the Tibetan Plateau for the first time and compared it with the earlier version of Vegetation Map of China for historical changes. Over the past 40 years, we revealed that (1) the proportion of alpine meadows in alpine grasslands increased from 50% to 69%, well-reflecting the warming and wetting trend; (2) dominances of Kobresia pygmaea and Stipa purpurea formations in alpine meadows and steppes were strengthened to 76% and 92%, respectively; (3) the climate factor mainly drove the distribution of Stipa purpurea formation, but not the recent distribution of Kobresia pygmaea formation that was likely shaped by human activities. Therefore, the underlying mechanisms of grassland changes over the past 40 years were considered to be formation dependent. Overall, the first exploration for structural information of plant community changes in this study not only provides a new perspective to understand drivers of grassland changes and their spatial heterogeneity at the regional scale of the Tibetan Plateau, but also innovates large-scale vegetation study paradigm. Knowledge about grassland biomass and its dynamics is critical for studying regional carbon cycles and for the sustainable use of grassland resources. In this study, we investigated the spatio-temporal variation of biomass in the Xilingol grasslands of northern China. Field-based biomass samples and MODIS time series data sets were used to establish two empirical models based on the relationship of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) with above-ground biomass (AGB) as well as that of AGB with below-ground biomass (BGB). We further explored the climatic controls of these variations. Our results showed that the biomass averaged 99.01 Tg (1 Tg=1012 g) over a total area of 19.6×104 km2 and fluctuated with no significant trend from 2001 to 2012. The mean biomass density was 505.4 g/m2, with 62.6 g/m2 in AGB and 442.8 g/m2 in BGB, which generally decreased from northeast to southwest and exhibited a large spatial heterogeneity. The year-to-year AGB pattern was generally consistent with the inter-annual variation in the growing season precipitation (GSP), showing a robust positive correlation (R2=0.82, P<0.001), but an opposite coupled pattern was observed with the growing season temperature (GST) (R2=0.61, P=0.003). Climatic factors also affected the spatial distribution of AGB, which increased progressively with the GSP gradient (R2=0.76, P<0.0001) but decreased with an increasing GST (R2=0.70, P<0.0001). An improved moisture index that combined the effects of GST and GSP explained more variation in AGB than did precipitation alone (R2=0.81, P<0.0001). The relationship between AGB and GSP could be fit by a power function. This increasing slope of the GSP–AGB relationships along the GSP gradient may be partly explained by the GST–GSP spatial pattern in Xilingol. Our findings suggest that the relationships between climatic factors and AGB may be scale-dependent and that multi-scale studies and sufficient long-term field data are needed to examine the relationships between AGB and climatic factors. Grassland aboveground biomass (AGB) is an important indicator for studying the change in grassland ecological quality and carbon cycle. The rapid development of high-resolution remote sensing and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) provides a new opportunity for accurate estimation of grassland AGB on the plot scale. In this study, the mountain grassland was taken as the research object. Using UAV Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and multispectral satellite images, the influence of topographic correction methods on AGB estimation was compared and a series of LiDAR metrics and vegetation indices were extracted. On this basis, a comprehensive indicator, the vegetation index-height-intensity model (VHI), was proposed to estimate AGB quickly. The results show that: (1) Among the four topographic correction methods, the Teillet regression has the best effect, and can effectively improve the accuracy of AGB estimation in mountain grassland. The correlation between corrected ratio vegetation index and AGB was the highest (correlation coefficient: 0.682). (2) Among the height and intensity metrics, median height and max intensity yielded the higher accuracy in estimating AGB, with Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 322 g/m2 and 333 g/m2, respectively. (3) The VHI integrated spectrum and LiDAR information, and its accuracy for AGB estimation for mountain grassland, was obviously better than other indicators, with an RMSE of 272 g/m2. We also found that the accuracy of VHI in univariate models was comparable to that of complex multivariate models such as stepwise regression, support vector machine, and random forest. This study provides a new approach for estimating grassland AGB with multi-source data. As a simple and effective indicator, VHI has shown strong application potential for grassland AGB estimating in mountainous areas, and can be further applied to grassland carbon cycle research and fine management. Desertification is treated as an important and critical environmental hazard. In the face of increasingly serious grassland desertification, China has made great efforts to combat desertification and a series of key national ecological projects has been launched. However, accurate, timely, and effective monitoring and assessment are required to determine whether these projects work well. The Horqin sandy land represents the largest area of sandy land in China. In this article, the Naiman and Ongniud Banners were studied because these contain the main desertified grassland in Horqin. Next, a desertification classification and grading system was designed for the Horqin sandy land after conducting fieldwork. Based on spectral mixture analysis (SMA) and decision-tree methods, we interpreted Landsat Thematic Mapper/Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus/Operational Land Imager (TM/ETM+/OLI) images of the study area from four years: 1985, 1992, 2001, and 2013. Overall, the following results were obtained. The total area of desertified grassland in the Naiman and Ongniud Banners increased from 5979 km2in 1985 to 9195 km2in 1992 (an increase of 53.79%) and then decreased to 7828 km2in 2001 and to 6023 km2in 2013. The changes in the areas of desertified grassland with various degrees of desertification displayed the same trends as that of the total desertified grassland area. The severely desertified grassland expanded from 1872 km2in 1985 to 3723 km2in 1992 before shrinking to 2189 km2in 2013. The annual rates of expansion of desertified grassland during the periods 1985–1992, 1992–2001, and 2001–2013 were 7.68%, −1.65%, and −1.92%, respectively, and the corresponding expansion rates of severely desertified grassland were 14.12%, −3.48%, and −1.19%, respectively. Both the desertified grasslands and the areas with various degrees of desertification displayed significant expansion during the period 1985–1992. Since 1992, this trend has reduced. During the study period, the changes in temperature and precipitation did not benefit the reversal of grassland sandy desertification. Furthermore, the growing population and expansion of livestock production and farming inhibited such reversal. However, the results presented in this article suggest that a reversal in grassland sandy desertification has been occurring since 1992. • It was found that the agricultural land expanded significantly, desert reduced from 1993 to 2019 in the oasis region in Hotan River Basin, China. • The key indicators of the coupling system of vegetation–climate, soil-adjusted vegetation index, albedo, surface temperature, and evapotranspiration were calculated and mapped their spatial-temporal dynamics. • We investigated how the different landscape patterns altered the interaction between vegetation and climate in the desert oasis ecosystem and quantified the effects with structural equation model. In the arid region, the oasis is characterized by a desert substance and a mosaic of vegetation. The biophysical processes and interactions between vegetation and the local climate in this kind of region are determined by the macroscopic structure of the ecosystems, i.e. landscape patterns. To understand how these landscape patterns impact regional hydro-heat coupling across space and evolve over time, we utilized remote sensing observational data and methods to examine the relationships among these factors. In this case, we focused on the oasis along the upstream of the Hotan River Basin in the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang of western China and employed the satellite imagery datasets of Landsat from 1993 to 2019 to investigate the dynamics of vegetation–climate factors. Based on the land use and cover change datasets, the landscape pattern metrics, including patch density (PD), contagion index (CONTAG), fractal dimension (FRAC), were calculated to measure the landscape features on the different aspects, i.e. the fragmentation, the connectivity, and the complexity. With the algorithm of land surface energy balance, the land surface indicators, including the soil-adjusted vegetation index (SAV I), albedo, surface irradiance temperature (T s), and evapotranspiration (ET), were calculated to represent the key process in the interaction of vegetation–climate. The temporal-spatial dynamics of the landscape patterns and the vegetation–climate metrics were mapped and demonstrated in a quantitative manner. The statistical results revealed that during the past decades, the agricultural land in the study area had significantly increased by 17 %. Grassland and shrubs had also expanded, while the desert area decreased from 82.57 % to 78.82 % of the total area, with an overall reduction rate of 1.4 %/10a. It was found the study area was getting warmer and dryer based on the general trends of T s and ET observed during the period of 1993–2019. The agricultural land had the highest PD and CONTAG , and the lowest FRAC. The agricultural land had the lowest T s and the highest ET. The results of structural equation model identified the decoupling effects of PD and CONTAG on the regional hydro-heat environment, while confirmed that FRAC had positive impact on the coupling between T s and ET. Our study bridged the landscape pattern with the regional vegetation–climate interaction and provided the suggestions for the landscape planning and management for a more sustainable arid region. Shrub encroachment, characterized by the proliferation of shrubs into grasslands, is a challenge faced by grasslands worldwide that significantly impacts livestock production and ecosystem functions. Rapid and accurate estimation of shrub dominance is important for understanding changes in plant community structures and formulating grassland management policies. However, the limited spatial resolution of commonly used satellite imagery poses a challenge when estimating shrub dominance at the landscape scale. The rapid development of Unoccupied Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has opened up new opportunities for cross-scale observations of shrub encroachment in grasslands by effectively bridging the scale gap between ground sampling and satellite image pixels while reducing the required groundwork. This study utilized ground reference data, UAV data (RGB, hyperspectral, and LiDAR), and satellite data (Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2) to estimate shrub and total above-ground biomass (AGB) in temperate grasslands to map the shrub dominance. First, UAV data were applied at the plot scale for the classification of shrub and herbaceous vegetation using the maximum entropy model (MaxEnt), estimation of shrub AGB by employing the vegetation index weighted canopy volume model (CVM VI), and estimation of herbaceous AGB based on the partial least squares regression (PLSR). Second, UAV AGB mapping results were upscaled as samples at the landscape scale and integrated with satellite imagery to establish the shrub and total AGB models using the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). Finally, shrub dominance, represented as shrub AGB/total AGB, was mapped across the study area. We found that at the plot scale, the MaxEnt model achieved an overall accuracy of 0.990 for object-based classification. The CVM VI combined with canopy height model and narrow-band vegetation index achieved the highest accuracy for estimating shrub AGB (R2 = 0.821, RMSE = 30.1 g). The PLSR combined with features derived from all UAV data achieved the highest accuracy for estimating herbaceous AGB (R2 = 0.856, RMSE = 9.1 g/m2). At the landscape scale, the XGBoost achieved high accuracy for estimating both the shrub AGB (R2 = 0.719, RMSE = 4.2 g/m2) and total AGB (R2 = 0.961, RMSE = 5.0 g/m2). The high-precision mapping results further facilitate the generation of shrub dominance maps at a landscape scale. Estimating the Start of Growing Season (SOS) of grassland on the global scale is an important scientific issue since it can reflect the response of the terrestrial ecosystem to environmental changes and determine the start time of grazing. However, most remote sensing data has coarse- temporal and spatial resolution, resulting in low accuracy of SOS retrieval based on remote sensing methods. In recent years, much research has focused on multi-source data fusion technology to improve the spatio-temporal resolution of remote sensing information, and to provide a feasible path for high-accuracy remote sensing inversion of SOS. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of quantitative evaluation for the accuracy of these data fusion methods in SOS estimation. Therefore, in this study, the SOS estimation accuracy is quantitatively evaluated based on the spatio-temporal fusion daily datasets through the Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM) and other models in Xilinhot City, Inner Mongolia, China. The results show that: (1) the accuracy of SOS estimation based on spatio-temporal fusion daily datasets has been slightly improved, the average Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of SOS based on 8d composite datasets is 11.1d, and the best is 9.7d ( f s t a r f m 8 ); (2) the estimation accuracy based on 8d composite datasets ( R M S E ¯ = 11.1d) is better than daily fusion datasets ( R M S E ¯ = 18.2d); (3) the lack of the Landsat data during the SOS would decrease the quality of the fusion datasets, which ultimately reduces the accuracy of the SOS estimation. The R M S E ¯ of SOS based on all three models increases by 11.1d, and the STARFM is least affected, just increases 2.7d. The results highlight the potential of the spatio-temporal data fusion method in high-accuracy grassland SOS estimation. In flexible electronics, appropriate inlaid structures for stress dispersion to avoid excessive deformation that can break chemical bonds are lacking, which greatly hinders the fabrication of super‐foldable composite materials capable of sustaining numerous times of true‐folding. Here, mimicking the microstructures of both cuit cocoon possessing super‐flexible property and Mimosa leaf featuring reversible scatheless folding, super‐foldable C‐web/FeOOH‐nanocone (SFCFe) conductive nanocomposites are prepared, which display cone‐arrays on fiber structures similar to Mimosa leaf, as well as non‐crosslinked junctions, slidable nanofibers, separable layers, and compressible network like cuit cocoon. Remarkably, the SFCFe can undergo over 100 000 times of repeated true‐folding without structural damage or electrical conductivity degradation. The mechanism underlying this super‐foldable performance is further investigated by real‐time scanning electron microscopy folding characterization and finite‐element simulations. The results indicate its self‐adaptive stress‐dispersion mechanism originating from multilevel biomimetic structures. Notably, the SFCFe demonstrates its prospect as a super‐foldable anode electrode for aqueous batteries, which shows not only high capacities and satisfactory cycling stability, but also completely coincident cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge–discharge curves throughout the 100 000 times of true‐folding. It is critical to understanding grassland biomass and its dynamics to study regional carbon cycles and the sustainable use of grassland resources. In this study, we estimated aboveground biomass (AGB) and its spatio-temporal pattern for Inner Mongolia’s grassland between 2001 and 2011 using field samples, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer normalized difference vegetation index (MODIS-NDVI) time series data, and statistical models based on the relationship between NDVI and AGB. We also explored possible relationships between the spatio-temporal pattern of AGB and climatic factors. The following results were obtained: (1) AGB averaged 19.1 Tg C (1 Tg = 1012 g) over a total area of 66.01 × 104 km2between 2001 and 2011 and experienced a general fluctuation (coefficient of variation = 9.43%), with no significant trend over time (R2 = 0.05,p > 0.05). (2) The mean AGB density was 28.9 g C m−2 over the whole study area during the 11 year period, and it decreased from the northeastern part of the grassland to the southwestern part, exhibiting large spatial heterogeneity. (3) The AGB variation over the 11 year period was closely coupled with the pattern of precipitation from January to July, but we did not find a significant relationship between AGB and the corresponding temperature changes. Precipitation was also an important factor in the spatial pattern of AGB over the study area (R2 = 0.41,p< 0.001), while temperature seemed to be a minor factor (R2 = 0.14,p< 0.001). A moisture index that combined the effects of precipitation and temperature explained more variation in AGB than did precipitation alone (R2 = 0.45,p< 0.001). Our findings suggest that establishing separate statistical models for different vegetation conditions may reduce the uncertainty of AGB estimation on a large spatial scale. Aboveground biomass (AGB) in grasslands directly reflects the net primary productivity, making it a sensitive indicator of grassland resource quality and ecological degradation. Accurately estimating AGB over large regions to reveal long-term AGB evolution trends remains a formidable challenge. In this study, we divided Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR) grasslands into three study regions based on their spatial distribution of grassland types. We combined remote sensing data with ground-based sample data collected over the past 19 years from 6114 field plots using the Google Earth Engine platform. We constructed random forest (RF) and traditional regression AGB inversion models for each region and selected the best-performing model through accuracy assessment to estimate IMAR grassland AGB for the period 2000–2022. We also examined the trends in AGB changes and identified the driving forces affecting IMAR grasslands through the application of Theil-Sen estimation, Mann-Kendall trend analysis, and the Geodetector model. The main findings are as follows: (1) Compared with the univariate parametric traditional regression model, the AGB monitoring accuracy of the multivariate non-parametric RF model in the three study regions increased by 5.94%, 5.08% and 19.14%, respectively. (2) The average AGB per unit area of IMAR grasslands from 2000 to 2022 was 731.41 kg/hm2, with alpine meadow having the highest average AGB (1271.70 kg/hm2) and temperate grassland desertification having the lowest (469.06 kg/hm2). IMAR grasslands exhibited an overall increasing trend in AGB over the past 23 years (6.01 kg/hm2•yr), with the increasing trend covering 83.52% of the grassland area and the decreasing trend covering 16.48%. (3) Spatially, IMAR grassland AGB showed a gradual decline from northeast to southwest and exhibited an increasing trend with increasing longitude (45.423 kg/hm2 per degree) and latitude (71.9 kg/hm2 per degree). (4) Meteorological factors were the most significant factors affecting IMAR grassland AGB, with precipitation (five-year average q value of 0.61) being the most prominent. In the western part of IMAR, where precipitation is consistently limited throughout the year, the primary drivers of influence were human activities, with particular emphasis on the number of livestock (with a five-year average q value of 0.44). It is evident that reducing human activity disturbance and pressure in fragile grassland areas or implementing near-natural restoration measures will be beneficial for the sustainable development of grassland ecosystems. The results of this research hold substantial reference importance for the protection and restoration of grasslands, the supervision and administration of grassland resources, as well as the development of policies related to grassland management. The accurate estimation of the aboveground biomass (AGB) is crucial for the sustainable utilization and management of grassland resources. Spatio-temporal inconsistencies between field samples and satellite images are major source of error in the estimation of grassland AGB. To solve this problem, this study selected the Three Rivers Headwater Region as the study area and proposed a selection strategy for base-period images of spatio-temporal fusion that was suitable for use at a large spatial scale in which cloud-free images are difficult to obtain. The spatial and temporal adaptive reflectance fusion model (STARFM) based on the selection strategy was used to generate a synthetic Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) dataset with high spatial-temporal resolution by using the maximum value composite of GF-1 NDVI and MODIS NDVI to enhance the spatial-temporal quality of the images for field-scale application. Three estimation models for grassland AGB were then constructed by the random forest algorithm using synthetic NDVI, MODIS NDVI, GF-1 NDVI respectively, together with ancillary data. Following this, the estimation model with the highest accuracy was used to generate a 16-m eight-day time-series AGB in the growing season. The results showed: (1) The synthetic NDVI was correlated closely with the observed GF-1 NDVI, with an average R of 0.825 and a RMSE of 0.087. The temporal trend of the synthetic NDVI for each grassland type was highly consistent with that of the MODIS NDVI in the growing season with a correlation higher than 0.9. (2) The synthetic NDVI reduced the spatial difference between field samples and images to 16-fold, and the temporal difference was controlled to within four days under ideal conditions. (3) The synthetic NDVI improved the estimation accuracy of grassland AGB by about 15.9% and 19.7% (R2), and 13.7% and 17.5% (RMSE) relative to MODIS NDVI and GF-1 NDVI, respectively. (4) The time-series AGB revealed accurately the spatial distribution of and seasonal temporal variations in the grassland biomass. • N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry of ungrazed and grazed grassland varied. • Livestock grazing may weaken N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry. • Climate variability and other environmental factors can also mediate N deposition effects. Increased nitrogen (N) deposition is expected to impact the grassland ecosystem by changing soil C:N:P stoichiometry. However, N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry is still in debate. In addition, we still know less about how N deposition affects soil C:N:P stoichiometry in grazed grassland as most studies focus on natural grassland. Hence, it is necessary to examine N deposition effects on both ungrazed and grazed grassland and clarify the disparity. We conducted a simulated N deposition experiment in ungrazed and grazed grassland of two grassland types including alpine meadow (AM) and alpine steppe (AS) to test such effects. Results showed that N deposition effects on ungrazed and grazed grassland varied. Soil C, soil N, soil P, soil C:N, soil N:P and soil C:P were significantly affected by N deposition in ungrazed grassland while only soil N, soil P, soil C:N, soil N:P were significantly affected by N deposition in grazed grassland. Soil C and soil N:P were not sensitive to N deposition in grazed grassland. N deposition negatively affects soil P in ungrazed grassland yet positively affected soil P in grazed grassland. N deposition effects accounted for 30% in ungrazed grassland, while significantly decreased to 12% when grazing effects were considered suggesting that livestock grazing might weaken N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry. In addition, other climate and environmental factors such as MAT, MAP, and grassland type can also mediate N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry in both ungrazed and grazed grasslands. On the whole, our findings suggested that there existed a disparity of N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry between ungrazed and grazed grassland, and livestock grazing may weaken N deposition effects on soil C:N:P stoichiometry in alpine grassland of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Although considerable research highlights the interactions between obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and cardiovascular diseases, the effect of mandibular advancement device (MAD) treatment on cardiovascular complications in OSAHS patients remains unclear. We evaluated the effect of OSAHS treatment with MADs on the myocardium. All methods in this study were in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations of the medical ethics committee in Hospital of Stomatology, Hebei Medical University approved the work. Thirty New Zealand rabbits were randomized into three groups: the control group, Group OSAHS, and Group MAD. Hydrophilic polyacrylamide gel was injected into the soft palate of the rabbits to induce OSAHS. In Group MAD, a MAD was positioned after OSAHS induction. All animals were induced to sleep in a supine position for 4–6 h/day for 8 weeks. Echocardiography was used to determine the structure and function of the heart. The histological changes were detected by optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The levels of ET-1(endothelin-1) and Ang II (Angiotensin II) in the plasma were measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of ET-1 mRNA in heart tissue was detected by RT-PCR. Histological abnormalities, left ventricular hypertrophy, and left ventricular dysfunctions were demonstrated in Group OSAHS, and the abnormities were rescued with MAD treatment. Higher levels of plasma ET-1 and Ang II and elevated expression of ET-1 mRNA in cardiac tissue were detected in Group OSAHS compared with Group MAD and the control group. The blood oxygen saturation was negatively correlated with the levels of ET-1 and Ang II. OSAHS-induced elevated levels of ET-1 and Ang II may be attributed to myocardial structural abnormalities and dysfunction. Background: MMPs/TIMPs system is well known to play important roles in pressure overloadinduced cardiac remodeling, and Amlodipine and Atorvastatin have been showed to exert favourable protective effects on cardiovascular disease, however, it is not clear whether Amlodipine and Atorvastatin can improve hypertensive cardiac remodeling and whether the MMPs/TIMPs system is involved. The present study aims to answer these questions. Methods: 36 weeks old male spontaneous hypertension (SHR) rats were randomly divided into four groups: 1). SHR control group, 2). Amlodipine alone (10 mg/kg/d) group, 3). Atorvastatin alone (10 mg/kg/d) group, 4).Combination of Amlodipine and Atorvastatin (10 mg/kg/d for each) group. Same gender, weight and age of Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats with normal blood pressure were used as normal control. Drugs were administered by oral gavage over 12 weeks. The blood pressure and left ventricle mass index were measured. Enzyme activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 was assessed with Gelatin zymography. MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 mRNA and protein expression was studied by RT-PCR and Western blot. Single factor ANOVA and LSD-t test were used in statistical analysis. Results: Treatment with Amlodipine alone or combination with atorvastatin significantly decreased blood pressure, left ventricle mass index in SHR rats (P < 0.05 for both). Compared with WKY rats, the myocardial levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 mRNA, protein and enzyme activity were significantly increased (P<0.05). Amlodipine alone, Atorvastatin alone, and combination of the two all reduced MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA, protein and enzyme activity, with the best effects seen in the combination. Compared with WKY rats, the myocardial levels of TIMP-1 mRNA and protein were significantly increased (P<0.05), however, there was no difference in levels of TIMP-2. Neither Amlodipine alone, Atorvastatin alone, nor combination of the two drugs significantly affect the expression of TIMP-1 or TIMP- 2. Conclusion: Amlodipine and Atorvastatin could improve ventricular remodeling in SHR rats through intervention with the imbalance of MMP-2/TIMP-2 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The work is focused on electroless nickel plating on polyimide film. The Ni salt activation, which neglects the use of palladium, is adopted in pretreatment. The orthogonal experiment and single factor test are used to optimize the experiment, thus the optimum compositions and conditions of electroless nickel plating are obtained. The cleaned, activated and deposited polyimide films are also characterized by their structure, morphology, component and chemical state. The activation process of nickel salt is analyzed on basis of experiment and test. A Ni–P film with fine and dense structure is achieved on the polyimide film which consists of 92.23 wt.% Ni and 7.77 wt.% P. The result of tensile test indicates that the adhesion between the substrate and the coating layer is sufficiently excellent due to dimples by etching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Gel polymer electrolytes containing N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinum bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (PYR14TFSI) ionic liquid are prepared by the solution casting method. Thermal and electrochemical properties have been determined for these gel polymer electrolytes. The electrical properties are investigated in detail by the linear sweep voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy with the aid of the equivalent circuit fitting of the impedance spectra. The results show that the studied electrolytes have good self-standing characteristics, and also a sufficient level of thermal stability and a good electrochemical window. The conductivity increases with increasing amount of mixture, and for the studied system, the highest value of the conductivity measured at room temperature is 4.0×10−4 Scm−1. The lithium ions transference number reaches the maximum value when the gel electrolyte contains 33.3wt% PYR14TFSI ionic liquid. Based on the experiments, measurements and fitting, the models describing the lithium ion transmission and the properties of electrolyte/electrode interface are developed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
