Academic leadership is considered a key factor in university and research institute development. In a competitive environment, the role of academic leadership has become increasingly important. At present, China is committed to building world-class universities and advanced research institutes, while academic leadership is one of the key factors. Thus, what is the ideal academic leadership in China's institutional environment? What professional qualities should principal investigators have? This study investigates these issues with in-depth interviews of six principal investigators. The finding shows that the definition of academic leadership by principal investigators refers to academic expertise, assigning the team member, setting a direction, academic social skills, managing team member relationships, boosting team morale, and teamwork skills. Furthermore, academic expertise is often supposed to be more important than other abilities. In terms of competence, the definitions of leadership by Chinese principal investigators and the literature on Western academic leadership are similar.

The improvement of teacher leadership is the key to promote the quality of kindergarten education. As a kind of teacher leadership, authentic leadership is related to the teacher's personality traits. This paper collects data on the authentic leadership and personality of 157 teachers in three private kindergartens in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China, and validates the research hypothesis that teacher personality can affect teachers' authentic leadership through SPSS analysis. Based on the descriptive analysis and linear regression analysis, it can be seen that the authentic leadership of private kindergarten teachers in Yunnan Province needs to be further improved, and personality as an inseparable part of predicting leadership needs to be re-emphasized. Results also indicate that when testing personality traits, future researchers must use complete questionnaires instead of short questionnaires.

We aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of blood purification technology based on cytokine adsorption in the treatment of sepsis. Sixty patients with sepsis were randomly divided into control (n = 30) and experimental (n = 30) groups. Both groups were given routine treatment and continuous venovenous hemofiltration, and on this basis, the experimental group received acrylonitrile/sodium methacrylate (AN69ST) blood purification. The levels of C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, white blood cell count, albumin, platelets, total bilirubin, creatinine, lactic acid, and APACE II score, as well as secretion of inflammatory factors interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) were compared. The hospitalization time, mechanical ventilation (MV) time, drug use time, and mortality were analyzed. After treatment, the secretion levels of IL-6 and TNF-α were decreased, and other indicators were significantly improved compared with those before treatment (P < 0.05), especially in the experimental group (P < 0.05). The hospitalization time, MV time, and drug use time in the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05), and the mortality was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, blood purification technology based on cytokine adsorption can significantly improve various indicators of sepsis patients, reduce hospitalization time, reduce mortality, and improve the prognosis.

Abstract Obesity-related chronic inflammation is closely related to the ability of immune cells to adapt to the body’s needs, research has shown that excess FAs can further activate pro-inflammatory transcription factors in the nucleus by interacting with various receptors such as CD36 and TLR4, thereby affecting the inflammatory state of cells. However, how the profile of various fatty acids in the blood of obese individuals is associated with chronic inflammation remains unclear. Objective The biomarkers associated with obesity were identified from 40 fatty acids (FAs) in the blood, and analyze the relationship between the biomarkers and chronic inflammation. Furthermore, by analyzing the difference in the expression of CD36, TLR4 and NF-κB p65 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) between obese and standard weight people, understand that immunophenotype PBMC is associated with chronic inflammation. Methods This study is a cross-sectional study. Participants were recruited from the Yangzhou Lipan weight loss training camp from May 2020 to July 2020. The sample size was 52 individuals, including 25 in the normal weight group and 27 in the obesity group. Individuals with obesity and controls of normal weight were recruited to identify biomarkers associated with obesity from 40 fatty acids in the blood; correlation analysis was conducted between the screened potential biomarkers FAs and the chronic inflammation index hs-CRP to identify FA biomarkers associated with chronic inflammation. Changes in the fatty acid receptor CD36, inflammatory receptor TLR4, and inflammatory nuclear transcription factor NF-κB p65 in PBMC subsets were used to further test the relationship between fatty acids and the inflammatory state in individuals with obesity. Results 23 potential FA biomarkers for obesity were screened, eleven of the potential obesity biomarkers were also significantly related to hs-CRP. Compared to the control group, in monocytes the obesity group expressed higher TLR4, CD36, and NF-κB p65 in lymphocytes, the obesity group expressed higher TLR4 and CD36; and in granulocytes the obesity group expressed higher CD36. Conclusion Blood FAs are associated with obesity and are associated with chronic inflammation through increased CD36, TLR4, and NF-κB p65 in monocytes.

Background Hepatic cirrhosis represents the final stage for a wide variety of chronic liver diseases, which may be induced by numerous causes, and is associated with high mortality when complications arise. The relationships between hormone deficiencies due to hypopituitarism and hepatic cirrhosis have been rarely reported. Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics of 8 cases of hepatic cirrhosis secondary to hypopituitarism, and investigate the potential role of hypopituitarism in the development of hepatic cirrhosis. Methods Participants were 8 patients with hepatic cirrhosis secondary to hypopituitarism who were recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2010 to December 2021. A retrospective analysis was conducted on their clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging test result, treatments and follow-up results. Results The age at the diagnosis of hypopituitarism for all cases ranged from 9 to 20 years old, and that at the diagnosis of hepatic cirrhosis was 16 to 24 years old, with an interval of 3 to 14 years old. The causes of hypopituitarism were germ cell tumor surgery (4 cases), craniopharyngioma surgery (2 cases), radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (1 case) and pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (1 case). All cases received no standardized hormone replacement therapy before cirrhosis was diagnosed by biopsy (2 cases) or imaging (6 cases). Fatigue, anorexia, hypoplastic external genitalia, short stature, recurrent upper respiratory tract infection and bleeding were the most common clinical manifestations. All cases had abnormalities in pituitary-thyroid axis, pituitary-gonadal axis, growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1, routine blood markers, four markers of hepatic fibrosis and liver imaging results. Moreover, it was found that 7 cases were also with abnormalities in antidiuretic hormone and hepatic function, and 6 cases were with abnormalities in pituitary-adrenal axis, coagulation function and serum lipids. All patients received treatment with desmopress in acetate, thyroid hormone, hydrocortisone and sex hormones as necessary. Four patients also received growth hormone replacement therapy. One-year follow-up indicated that, all cases had significantly improved levels of leukocyte, platelet, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, indirect bilirubin, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, fibrinogen and four markers of hepatic fibrosis after treatment (P0.05) . Conclusion All these 8 patients with hypopituitarism had hormone deficiency for several years before the diagnosis of hepatic cirrhosis, and abnormalities in thyroid hormone, sex hormone, growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1, routine blood markers, four markers of hepatic fibrosis and imaging results, with fatigue, anorexia, hypoplastic external genitalia, short stature, recurrent upper respiratory tract infection and bleeding as the most common clinical manifestations. One-year standardized hormone replacement therapy significantly improved the abnormalities in leukocyte, platelets, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, fibrinogen and four markers of hepatic fibrosis.

Objective To investigate the expression of the growth factor receptor-bound protein-2 (GRB2) gene in renal carcinoma and its influence on prognosis. Methods The ONCOMINE database was used to obtain the data on the expression of the GRB2 gene in renal carcinoma, and the TCGA database was used to analyze the difference in the expression of the GRB2 gene between renal carcinoma tissue and normal tissue, as well as the association between the expression of the GRB2 gene and the prognosis of patients. The STRING database was used to construct the protein-protein interaction network of the GRB2 gene. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure the relative expression level of the GRB2 gene in six renal carcinoma tissue samples and corresponding adjacent normal tissue samples.
