Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and anemia are related to some cardiovascular diseases and can predict poor outcomes. Both of them can damage the heart in their own ways, but their combined effects have not been well explored. This study aimed to explore the combined effects of T2DM and anemia and the interaction between left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) function by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). Materials and methods: A total of 177 T2DM patients without anemia, 68 T2DM patients with anemia and 73 sex-matched controls were retrospectively enrolled in this study from June 2015 to September 2022. Their LA phasic function and LV function parameters were compared to explore the combined effects of T2DM and anemia and the interaction between LA and LV function. Univariate and multivariate linear regression were done to explore the independent factors influencing LA phasic function and LV function. Results: Compared with controls and T2DM patients without anemia, T2DM patients with anemia were older and had higher heart rate, higher creatinine, lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and lower hemoglobin (Hb) (all p < 0.05). LV global longitudinal peak strain (GLPS) significantly declined from T2DM patients with anemia to T2DM patients without anemia to controls (p < 0.001). LA volumetric function and strain were significantly impaired in T2DM patients with anemia compared with the other groups (all p < 0.05). In addition to age, eGFR, Hb and HbA1c, the LV GLPS was independently associated with all LA phasic strains (LA reservoir strain, β =0.465; LA conduit strain, β = 0.450; LA pump strain, β = 0.360, all p < 0.05). LA global conduit strain, total LA ejection fraction (LAEF) and active LAEF were independently associated with LV GLPS and LVEF. Conclusion: Both LA and LV function were severely impaired in T2DM patients with anemia, and T2DM and anemia were independently associated with LA phasic function. Deleterious interaction between LA function and LV function would happen in T2DM patients with or without anemia. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) frequently coexists with obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD), which are at increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to investigate the impact of coronary obstruction on myocardial microcirculation function in T2DM patients, and explore independent predictors of reduced coronary microvascular perfusion. Methods: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning was performed on 297 T2DM patients {188 patients without OCAD [T2DM(OCAD −)] and 109 with [T2DM(OCAD +)]} and 89 control subjects. CMR-derived perfusion parameters, including upslope, max signal intensity (MaxSI), and time to maximum signal intensity (TTM) in global and segmental (basal, mid-ventricular, and apical slices) were measured and compared among observed groups. According to the median of Gensini score (64), T2DM(OCAD +) patients were subdivided into two groups. Univariable and multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictors of microcirculation dysfunction. Results: T2DM(OCAD −) patients, when compared to control subjects, had reduced upslope and prolonged TTM in global and all of three slices (all P < 0.05). T2DM(OCAD +) patients showed a significantly more severe impairment of microvascular perfusion than T2DM(OCAD −) patients and control subjects with a more marked decline upslope and prolongation TTM in global and three slices (all P < 0.05). From control subjects, through T2DM(OCAD +) patients with Gensini score ≤ 64, to those patients with Gensini score > 64 group, the upslope declined and TTM prolonged progressively in global and mid-ventricular slice (all P < 0.05). The presence of OCAD was independently correlated with reduced global upslope (β = − 0.104, P < 0.05) and global TTM (β = 0.105, P < 0.05) in patients with T2DM. Among T2DM(OCAD +) patients, Gensini score was associated with prolonged global TTM (r = 0.34, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Coronary artery obstruction in the context of T2DM exacerbated myocardial microcirculation damage. Background: To investigate the difference of right ventricular (RV) structural and functional alteration in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and the ventricular interdependence in these patients, using cardiac MR (CMR) feature tracking. Methods: From December 2016 to February 2022, 148 clinically diagnosed patients with DM who underwent cardiac MR (CMR) in our hospital were consecutively recruited. Fifty-four healthy individuals were included as normal controls. Biventricular strains, including left/right ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV-/RVGLS), left/right ventricular global circumferential strain (LV-/RVGCS), left/right ventricular global radial strain (LV-/RVGRS) were evaluated, and compared between patients with DM and healthy controls. Multiple linear regression and mediation analyses were used to evaluate DM's direct and indirect effects on RV strains. Results: No differences were found in age (56.98 ± 10.98 vs. 57.37 ± 8.41, p = 0.985), sex (53.4% vs. 48.1%, p = 0.715), and body surface area (BSA) (1.70 ± 0.21 vs. 1.69 ± 0.17, p = 0.472) between DM and normal controls. Patients with DM had decreased RVGLS (− 21.86 ± 4.14 vs. − 24.49 ± 4.47, p = 0.001), RVGCS (− 13.16 ± 3.86 vs. − 14.92 ± 3.08, p = 0.011), and no decrease was found in RVGRS (22.62 ± 8.11 vs. 23.15 ± 9.05, p = 0.743) in patients with DM compared with normal controls. The difference in RVGLS between normal controls and patients with DM was totally mediated by LVGLS (indirect effecting: 0.655, bootstrapped 95%CI 0.138–0.265). The difference in RVGCS between normal controls and DM was partly mediated by the LVGLS (indirect effecting: 0.336, bootstrapped 95%CI 0.002–0.820) and LVGCS (indirect effecting: 0.368, bootstrapped 95%CI 0.028–0.855). Conclusions: In the patients with DM and preserved LVEF, the difference in RVGLS between DM and normal controls was totally mediated by LVGLS. Background: Coronary atherosclerosis can lead to serious cardiovascular events. In type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients, the effects of clinical factors on coronary atherosclerosis have not been fully elucidated. We used a clustering method to distinguish the population heterogeneity of T2DM and the differences in coronary atherosclerosis evaluated on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) among groups and to facilitate clinical management. Methods: Clinical data from 1157 T2DM patients with coronary atherosclerosis who underwent CCTA in our hospital from January 2018 to September 2021 were retrospectively collected. The coronary artery segment plaque type and stenosis, the number of involved vessels, the segment involvement score (SIS) and the segment stenosis score (SSS) were evaluated and calculated. Unsupervised clustering analysis based on clinical information was used (cluster 1: n = 463; cluster 2: n = 341; cluster 3: n = 353). The association of coronary plaque characteristics with cluster groups was evaluated. Results: The clinical data among the three groups were different in several aspects: (1) Cluster 1 had the least male patients (41.7%), the lowest proportion of patients with smoking (0%) or alcohol history (0.9%), and the lowest level of serum creatinine (74.46 ± 22.18 µmol/L); (2) Cluster 2 had the shortest duration of diabetes (7.90 ± 8.20 years) and was less likely to be treated with diabetes (42.2%) or statins (17.6%) and (3) Cluster 3 was the youngest (65.89 ± 10.15 years old) and had the highest proportion of male patients (96.6%), the highest proportion of patients with smoking (91.2%) and alcohol (59.8%) history, the highest level of eGFR (83.81 ± 19.06 ml/min/1.73m2), and the lowest level of HDL-C (1.07 ± 0.28 mmol/L). The CCTA characteristics varied with different clusters: (1) Cluster 1 had the largest number of segments with calcified plaques (2.43 ± 2.46) and the least number of segments with mixed plaques (2.24 ± 2.59) and obstructive stenosis (0.98 ± 2.00); (2) Cluster 1 had the lowest proportion of patients with mixed plaques (68%) and obstructive stenosis (32.2%); (3) Cluster 3 had more segments with noncalcified plaques than cluster 1 (0.63 ± 1.02 vs 0.40 ± 0.78, P < 0.05) and the highest proportion of patients with noncalcified plaques (39.9%) and (4) There was no significant difference in the extent of coronary plaques among the three clusters. Conclusions: The unsupervised clustering method could address T2DM patients with heterogeneous clinical indicators and identify groups with different types of coronary plaque and degrees of coronary stenosis. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the extracellular volume fraction (ECV) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with different level of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), and the ability of HbA1c to predict myocardial fibrosis.Methods: In total, 80 T2DM patients and 20 age- and sex-matched controls were prospective enrolled and underwent CMR to obtain ECV value and LV function parameters. We divided all patients into a group of HbA1c < 7.0% and a group of HbA1c ≥ 7.0%.Results: In the higher HbA1c group the ECV value (all p < 0.001) was higher than both lower HbA1c group (36.23% vs. 32.19%, p < 0.001) and controls (36.23% vs. 29.73%, p < 0.001). HbA1c was positively associated (β = 0.36, p = 0.004) with ECV, and it was also an independent predictor of myocardial fibrosis (OR = 2.00, P = 0.014). The ROC analysis showed that 7.1% was the optimal cutoff value of HbA1c that predicted the risk of myocardial fibrosis with high diagnostic accuracy (area under the curve = 0.78).Conclusion: T1 mapping provided myocardial fibrosis information in T2DM patients. HbA1c is positively correlated with myocardial fibrosis and can be an independently predictor of myocardial fibrosis, which may be helpful for the clinical decision-making of blood glucose control. Background To assess left ventricular myocardial deformation in patients with primary cardiac tumors. Methods MRI was retrospectively performed in 61 patients, including 31 patients with primary cardiac tumors and 30 matched normal controls. Left ventricular strain and function parameters were then assessed by MRI-tissue tracking. Differences between the tumor group and controls, left and right heart tumor groups, left ventricular wall tumor and non-left ventricular wall tumor groups, and tumors with and without LV enlargement groups were assessed. Finally, the correlations among tumor diameter, myocardial strain, and LV function were analyzed. Results Left ventricular myocardial strain was milder for tumor group than for normal group. Peak circumferential strain (PCS) and its diastolic strain rate, longitudinal strains (PLS) and its diastolic strain rates, and peak radial systolic and diastolic velocities of the right heart tumor group were lower than those of the left heart tumor group (all p < 0.050), but the peak radial systolic strain rate of the former was higher than that of the latter ( p = 0.017). The corresponding strains were lower in the left ventricular wall tumor groups than in the non-left ventricular wall tumor group ( p < 0.050). Peak radial systolic velocities were generally higher for tumors with LV enlargement than for tumors without LV enlargement (p < 0.050). Peak radial strain, PCS, and PLS showed important correlations with the left ventricular ejection fraction (all p < 0.050). Conclusion MRI-tissue tracking is capable of quantitatively assessing left ventricular myocardial strain to reveal sub-clinical abnormalities of myocardial contractile function. Objectives: To provide a road map of pulmonary vein (PV) and left atrial (LA) variants in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) before catheter ablation procedure using cardiac CT.Methods: Cardiac CT was performed in 1420 subjects for accurate anatomical information, including 710 patients with AF and 710 matched controls without AF. PV variants, PV ostia and spatial orientation, LA enlargement, and left atrial diverticulum (LAD) were measured, respectively. Differences between these two groups were also respectively compared. Some risk factors for the occurrence of LAD were analyzed.Results: In total, PV variants were observed in 202 (28.5 %) patients with AF patients and 206 (29.0 %) controls without AF (p = 0.8153). The ostial sizes of all accessory veins were generally smaller than those of the typical four PVs (p = 0.0153 to 0.3958). There was a significant difference of LA enlargement between the AF and control groups (36.3 % vs. 12.5 %, p < 0.0001), while the prevalence of LAD was similar in these two groups (43.2 % vs. 41.9 %, p = 0.6293).Conclusion: PV variants are common. Purpose: To evaluate the quantitative accuracy of dual-source computed tomography (DSCT) on measurements of pulmonary artery in pediatric patients with cyanotic congenital heart diseases (CCHDs) when compared with transthoracic echocardiography (TTE).Methods: Thirty-five patients (mean age: 27.88 ± 28.27 months) with CCHDs underwent DSCT and TTE for evaluating the diameter of the main pulmonary artery (MPA), right pulmonary artery (RPA), and left pulmonary artery (LPA). Surgical measurements were obtained and served as the reference standard. The agreement was tested by linear regression analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Bland-Altman analysis. The intra- and extracardiac malformations were also observed.Results: There was a markedly positive correlation between DSCT and surgical measurements of the MPA, RPA, and LPA (r=0.95-0.97; all p<0.001), although the overestimation of the measurements of MPA, RPA, and LPA (bias 0.15 ± 0.95, 0.31 ± 0.63 and 0.35 ± 0.68 mm, respectively) was observed. However, there was a moderate correlation between TTE and surgical measurements of MPA, RPA, and LPA (r=0.61-0.84; all p<0.001), and the underestimation of the measurements of MPA, RPA, and LPA (bias-1.20 ± 1.69, -1.80 ± 1.77, and -1.50 ± 2.30 mm, respectively) was observed. In addition, DSCT was more efficient in finding associated malformations than TTE (40/40 vs. 33/40).Conclusions: As a reliable, noninvasive and radiation-save imaging modality, DSCT can provide more accurate pulmonary artery measurements than TTE in cardiac surgical procedures. Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and diagnostic accuracy of retrospective electrocardiographically (ECG)-gated dual-source computed tomography (DSCT) for the assessment of double outlet right ventricle (DORV) and associated multiple malformations in pediatric patients. Materials and Methods: Forty-seven patients <10 years of age with DORV underwent retrospective ECG-gated DSCT. The location of the ventricular septal defect (VSD), alignment of the two great arteries, and associated malformations were assessed. The feasibility of retrospective ECG-gated DSCT in pediatric patients was assessed, the image quality of DSCT and the agreement of the diagnosis of associated malformations between DSCT and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) were evaluated, the diagnostic accuracies of DSCT and TTE were referred to surgical results, and the effective doses were calculated. Results: Apart from DORV, 109 associated malformations were confirmed postoperatively. There was excellent agreement (κ = 0.90) for the diagnosis of associated malformations between DSCT and TTE. However, DSCT was superior to TTE in demonstrating paracardiac anomalies (sensitivity, coronary artery anomalies: 100% vs. 80.00%, anomalies of great vessels: 100% vs. 88.57%, separate thoracic and abdominal anomalies: 100% vs. 76.92%, respectively). Combined with TTE, DSCT can achieve excellent diagnostic performance in intracardiac anomalies (sensitivity, 91.30% vs. 100%). The mean image quality score was 3.70 ± 0.46 (κ = 0.76). The estimated mean effective dose was < 1 mSv (0.88 ± 0.34 mSv). Conclusions: Retrospective ECG-gated DSCT is a better diagnostic tool than TTE for pediatric patients with complex congenital heart disease such as DORV. Effect of grain refinement from 370 to 34 μm on oxidation of transition Fe–13Cr–5Ni alloy at 973 K in Ar–21 vol%O 2 was investigated. The measured weight gains were fitted taking into account a mixed kinetic model with an initial linear and subsequent parabolic growth behaviour. Different scale microstructural evolution was discussed. Contribution of grain refinement to the oxidation is predominantly due to its effect on the inward oxidation process. Decreasing grain size promoted intergranular oxidation, accelerated formation of the Cr-containing inner scale, contributed to the faster transition to the steady state oxidation and correspondingly slightly improved the oxidation resistance. Purpose: To clarify features of lymph nodes associated with leukemia purposing to offer help for imaging diagnosis and differential diagnosis of leukemia. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 47 patients with clinically proven leukemia involving the abdominal and pelvic lymph nodes. Of these 47 patients, 10 had acute myeloid leukemia, 9 had acute lymphocytic leukemia, and 28 had chronic lymphocytic leukemia. MDCT was used to determine lymph node features such as morphology, growth patterns, size, enhancement patterns, anatomical distribution, and manifestations in extramedullary organs. Results: Incidence of leukemia was higher in men than in women. Enlarged lymph nodes were more frequently conglomerated in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (96.4%) than in acute myeloid leukemia (50%) and acute lymphocytic leukemia (55.6%; P < 0.05 for both). Lymph nodes associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia were larger than those associated with acute myeloid and lymphocytic leukemias ( P < 0.05 for both). The enlarged lymph nodes appeared homogeneous (80.9%) and homogeneous mixed with peripheral (19.1%). No statistically significant differences were observed between the three types of leukemias with respect to enhancement patterns (all P > 0.05). The lymph nodes commonly associated with these three leukemias were located in the lesser omentum, upper and lower para-aortic regions, and groin region. Conclusions: Our study showed that contrast-enhanced MDCT could accurately determine the enhancement patterns and anatomical distribution of lymph nodes associated with leukemia. Purpose: To determine whether 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could assess right ventricular (RV) function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and if this assessment is correlated with the New York Heart Function Assessment (NYHA) classification. Materials and Methods: Forty-six patients with HCM and 23 normal individuals were recruited. Left and right ventricular function parameters including end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes (EDV, ESV), stroke volume (SV) and ejection fraction (EF) and dimensions were measured and compared using 3.0-T MRI. RV function parameters between HCM patients and controls were compared using independent sample t tests. A one way ANOVA test with Bonferroni correction was used to determine significant differences among different NYHA groups. Receiver operating characteristic analyses calculated the sensitivity and specificity of RV dysfunction on MRI for the prediction of HCM severity. Results: Statistical analysis revealed significant differences of left ventricular (LV) and RV volumetric values and masses between the HCM patients and controls (all p<0.05). Within the HCM group, the simultaneously decreased maximum RVEDD correlated well with the LVEDD (r = 0.53; p<0.001). The function and dimension parameters among Class I to III were not determined to be significantly different (all p>0.05). However, significant differences between the Class IV and I-III groups (all P<0.0167) indicated that the diastolic and systolic function in both the RV and LV were impaired in Class IV patients. ROC analyses identified the EDV, ESV and EDD of both the LV and RV with a high sensitivity cutoff value to predict the HCM patients with severe heart failure (Class IV) with high sensitivity and specificity. Conclusions: RV involvements were comparable to those of LV global function impairments in patients with HCM. Abstract: Purpose: To assess regional myocardial microvascular dysfunction differences in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients with or without left ventricular outflow tract obstruction using 3.0-T cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) first-pass perfusion imaging. Materials and methods: Forty-two HCM patients, including 25 HCM patients with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (HOCM), 17 HCM patients without left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (NOHCM), and 14 healthy subjects underwent CMR. The left ventricular (LV) function, left ventricular end-diastolic wall thickness (EDTH), and diameter of left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) were measured and calculated. Based on the signal–time curve of the first-pass myocardium perfusion imaging, perfusion parameters including upslope, time to peak, and peak intensity, were assessed and compared by using one-way analysis of variance and independent t tests. Results: On the first-pass perfusion imaging, lower upslope and peak intensity and longer time to peak were found in HCM patients compared with normal subjects (all p <0.05). In contrast to the NOHCM group, the average time to peak of the HOCM group was increased (13.30±4.82s vs 16.28±4.90s, p <0.05), but first-pass perfusion upslope was reduced (4.96±2.55 vs 2.58±0.77, p <0.05). According to the bull's-eye model, the HOCM group's average thickness of basal segments was thicker than the NOHCM group, especially the anteroseptal, inferolateral, and anterior wall values, with a corresponding lower first-pass perfusion upslope than the NOHCM group (all p <0.05). A significant correlation was observed between first-pass perfusion upslope and LV EDTH (r =−0.551, p <0.001) and LVOT diameter (r =0.472, p <0.001). Conclusions: The regional myocardial microvascular dysfunction differences in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients with or without left ventricular outflow tract obstruction can be detected with first-pass perfusion CMR imaging. Aims To retrospectively evaluate coronary anomalies and coronary wall atheromatous changes by using dual-source computed tomography angiography (DSCTA) for preoperative assessment of patients with thoraco-abdominal and noncoronary cardiovascular disease. Materials and Methods One hundred and eighty-one patients scheduled for elective noncoronary cardiovascular surgery (heart valve disease group, HVD; arrhythmia group, Arrhy; or aortic aneurysm group, AA) underwent a DSCTA examination for preoperative preparation. Anomalous origin of coronary arteries, myocardial bridge (MB), coronary wall atheromatous changes, luminal stenosis, and types of plaques were evaluated and compared among the three groups. Results Anomalous origin of coronary arteries and MB were observed in 5.1% and 21.5% of patients. Anomalous origin of the coronary artery from the opposite sinus was most common (55.6%). MB was most frequently detected in the distal segment of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) (1.2%). Plaques were most common in the proximal segment of the LAD (16.4%) and LAD branches (42.2%). Diseased vessels and segments were more common in AA group, followed by Arrhy patients and finally HVD groups (p < 0.001 for each group). Multivessel involvement and significant stenosis of AA group were significantly more common than the other two groups. Noncalcified plaque and all grades of stenosis were more common in AA patients. Conclusion DSCTA is useful for preoperative assessment of coronary arteries in patients undergoing thoraco-abdominal and noncoronary cardiovascular surgery. Abstract: Background: This study prospectively compared the accuracy of a sixty-four slice multidetector row CT (64-MDCT) in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the assessment of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction and dilatation in patients with mitral regurgitation. Methods: Eighty-four patients underwent ECG-gated 64-MDCT for the assessment of RV dysfunction and dilatation; 54 of these patients had known mitral regurgitation. End-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, stroke volume, and ejection fraction were measured using the 64-MDCT, and these results were retrospectively compared to the results of MRI (reference standard). Agreement between the 64-MDCT and MRI results was investigated using linear regression and Bland–Altman analyses. Receiver operating characteristic analyses calculated the sensitivity and specificity of RV dilatation on 64-MDCT scans for the prediction of mitral regurgitation severity and dysfunction, respectively. Results: No significant differences in RV function parameters were calculated between 64-MDCT and MRI (r=0.87 to 0.94; all p<0.001). Good intertechnique agreement was obtained using linear regression and Bland–Altman analyses. ROC analyses revealed that RV enlargement (>33mm) on 64-MDCT scans predicted the RV dysfunction of mitral regurgitation with a sensitivity of 92.9% and a specificity of 82.9%. Conclusions: ECG-gated 64-MDCT accurately and reliably assessed RV function in patients with and without mitral regurgitation. Abstract: Acyl-CoA Δ9-desaturase has important functions in fatty acid metabolism and cell membrane fluidity regulation. In this study, we isolated and characterized the acyl-CoA Δ9-desaturase-like cDNA encoded in Eriocheir sinensis (Chinese mitten crab) from the hepatopancreas by performing rapid-amplification of cDNA ends. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to perform this procedure in crustaceans. The full-length cDNA is 2419bp long and encodes a polypeptide with 347 amino acids that are highly homologous to related genes found in insects. Gene expression analysis (real-time quantitative PCR) revealed that acyl-CoA Δ9-desaturase-like transcripts were widely distributed in various tissues, in which a high expression level was observed in the hepatopancreas. A significantly increasing trend was also observed in the hepatopancreas at the megalopa stage to the maturity stage of the Chinese mitten crab. Acyl-CoA Δ9-desaturase gene expression is regulated by a number of developmental, dietary, hormonal, and environmental factors; thus, we determined the effects of acyl-CoA Δ9-desaturase-like mRNA expression in the hepatopancreas after the crabs were fed with different diets for 168days. The different diets were as follows: control diet without oil lipids (with 3% basic lipid of the fundamental diets); fish oil diet (FO; with added 3% of the fundamental diets); soybean oil diet (SO; with added 3% of the fundamental diets); and FO/SO diet (1:1; with added 3% of the fundamental diets). The present Study is an assessment of velocity fluctuations in a 3/4 open-jet type wind tunnel using both CFD and test methods. A virtual wind tunnel was created out of the plenum of the 1 : 15 scaled wind tunnel. Simulations were first carried out for the flow inside the plenum of the scaled wind tunnel using the URANS. The inlet boundary condition was defined as the combination of a constant mean velocity and an oscillating component. Both the oscillating frequencies and the mean velocities were varied in the simulations. Test for the same scale wind tunnel was carried out. Both the test and the simulation lead to the same results, showing that the unsteady flow grows in the plenum in the flow direction and the leading oscillation has a frequency of 20Hz. The airflow around the Ahmed body with 30° slant angle has been simulated using LES. By statistically analyzing the computational results including drag force, lift force and 3D velocity, consulting the data belong to published reference; the computational method has been validated. Objective To determine the features that differentiate earthquake-related crush extremity fractures from non-earthquake-related extremity fractures by using digital radiography ( DR) and multidetector row computed tomography ( MDCT). Methods Six hundred and twenty-three consecutive victims with crush extremity fractures arising from the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, including 611 undergoing DR and 12 undergoing MDCT, entered the test group, and 316 consecutive victims with non-earthquake-related extremity fractures, including 301 undergoing DR and 15 undergoing MDCT, were enrolled in the control group. Image data were reviewed retrospectively and statistically between groups focusing on the anatomic distributions, numbers and types of extremity fractures. Results Fractures involving multiple extremities were more likely in the test group than the control group (88/623 vs 27/316 victims, P < 0.05). Fractures involving multiple bones (336/623 vs 112/316 victims) and comminuted fractures (324/623 vs 78/316 victims) were seen more frequently in the test group than the control group with both occurring predominantly in the tibia and fibula (all P < 0.05). Conclusion Earthquake-related crush fractures of extremities are more likely than non-earthquake-related extremity fractures to involve multiple extremities, multiple bones and to be comminuted. The lower extremities, predominantly the tibia and fibula, are more likely to be involved. This has implications for emergency and disaster planning in earthquake-prone regions. Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the differential characteristics on MRI between tuberculosis and lymphoma in abdominal lymph nodes. Materials and methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis for the counter, size, signal intensity, enhancement patterns, and anatomic distribution of lymph nodes in 57 consecutive patients with documented tuberculosis (28 patients; 49.1%) and newly diagnosed, untreated lymphoma (29 patients; 50.9%). Results: Twenty-four cases (85.7%) in the tuberculosis group were hyperintense on T2-weighted images and either hypointense or isointense on T1-weighted images with respect to the abdominal wall muscle. All cases in the lymphoma group were hyperintense on T2-weighted images and isointense on T1-weighted images with respect to the abdominal wall muscle. Concerning the main anatomic distribution of lymph nodes, the lymph nodes in the lower paraaortic region were more frequently involved in the lymphoma group (48.3%) than in tuberculosis (17.9%, p <0.05). Moreover, mesenteric lymph nodes were more often involved in tuberculosis (32.1%) than in lymphoma (6.9%, p <0.05). Tuberculous lymphadenopathy showed predominantly peripheral enhancement, frequently with a multilocular appearance; whereas lymphomatous adenopathy often demonstrated uniform homogeneous enhancement (all p <0.001). Abstract: Interrupted aortic arch (IAA) is a rare congenital cardiovascular condition. A patient with uncorrected IAA accompanied by rich collateral arteries can survive to adulthood asymptomatically. However, IAA complicated by aortic dissection is life threatening. Herein, we report a rare case of an isolated IAA accompanied by type B aortic dissection and extensive collateral arteries detected by multidetector computed tomography in a 38-year-old man. The aim of this study was to investigate the dynamic changes in plasma decorin concentration after acute ischemic stroke and to study its relationship with clinical stroke subtypes. We collected three plasma samples from patients with acute ischemic stroke (n = 35) and controls (n = 30): upon admission (1-3 days) between 3 days and 1 week (3-7 days), and between 7 days and 2 weeks (7-14 days). The relationship between Decorin concentration and Trial of ORG10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) subtypes and outcomes were evaluated. The concentration of decorin gradually decreased following the onset of stroke at all different time-points (<3 days, p < 0.05; 3-7 days, p < 0.01; and 7-14 days, p < 0.01) compared to controls. The level of decorin at 7-14 days is significantly lower than that at <3 days ( p < 0.01) in the stroke patients. Decorin levels were lower in the Large-artery atherosclerosis group than the rest of the TOAST subgroups ( p = 0.024). Decorin levels decreased more in the patients with poor outcome (mRS 3-6) than those with favorable outcome (mRS 0-2, p < 0.05) at a time-point of 3-7 days. There is a dynamic reduction in Decorin level the days following ischemic stroke, and the decrement persists at least the first 2 weeks. The dynamic reduction of decorin might indicate that decorin is concomitantly involved in the pathophysiological processes of stroke. Abstract: Purpose: This study is to investigate the value of double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (DCEU) in assessing microcirculation of colorectal adenocarcinomas and to describe the perfusion features of the tumours. Material and methods: DCEUS was performed in 42 patients with adenocarcinoma. The time–intensity curve parameters (arrival time (AT), time-to-peak (TTP), peak intensity (PI) and area under the curve (AUC)) within the tumours were extracted. The parameters were compared among the tumours with different CEUS features and stages. Results: The mean values of AT, TTP, PI and AUC of the colorectal adenocarcinomas were 13.68±13.36s, 32.61±19.56s, 19.82±16.54dB and 271.10±159.19dBs, respectively. In the adenocarcinomas with necrosis, the mean values of AUC was significantly lower than that of the adenocarcinomas without (231.10±219.27dBs, 278.10±123.20dBs, p =0.004). In the adenocarcinomas with necrosis, the AUC and PI of the non-necrotic part were significantly higher than that of the necrotic part (p =0.007, 0.0025, respectively). AUC increased progressively in the subgroups of T2, T3 and T4 and the difference of AUC between T2 and T4 subgroup was significant (p =0.008). Conclusions: Double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography is a valuable technique for quantifying tumour vascularity of colorectal adenocarcinomas. Abstract: Purpose: To propose a low-dose method at tube current-time product of 50mAs for whole tumour first-pass perfusion of oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma using 64-section multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT), and to assess the original image quality and accuracy of perfusion parameters. Materials and methods: Fifty-nine consecutive patients with confirmed oesophageal squamous cell carcinomas were enrolled into our study, and underwent whole tumour first-pass perfusion scan with 64-section MDCT at 50mAs. Image data were statistically reviewed focusing on original image quality demonstrated by image-quality scores and signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios; and perfusion parameters including perfusion (PF, in ml/min/ml), peak enhanced density (PED, in HU), time to peak (TTP, in seconds) and blood volume (BV, in ml/100g) for the tumour. To test the interobserver agreement of perfusion measurements, perfusion analyses were repeatedly performed. Results: Original image-quality scores were 4.71±0.49 whereas S/N ratios were 5.21±2.05, and the scores were correlated with the S/N ratios (r =0.465, p <0.0001). Mean values for PF, PED, TTP and BV of the tumour were 33.27±24.15ml/min/ml, 24.06±9.87HU, 29.42±8.61s, and 12.45±12.22ml/100g, respectively. Intraclass correlation coefficient between the replicated measurements of each perfusion parameter was greater than 0.99, and mean difference of the replicated measurements of each parameter was close to zero. Conclusion: Whole tumour first-pass perfusion with 64-section MDCT at low-dose radiation could be reproducible to assess microcirculation in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma without compromising subjective original image quality of the tumour. Abstract: Purpose: To assess correlations between whole tumour first-pass perfusion parameters obtained with 64-row multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), and microvessel density (MVD) in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Thirty-one consecutive patients with surgically confirmed oesophageal squamous cell carcinomas were enrolled into our study. All the patients underwent whole tumour first-pass perfusion scan with 64-row MDCT. Perfusion parameters, including perfusion (PF), peak enhanced density (PED), blood volume (BV), and time to peak (TTP) were measured using Philips perfusion software. Postoperative tumour specimens were assessed for MVD. Pearson correlation coefficient tests were performed to determine correlations between each perfusion parameter and MVD. Results: Mean values for PF, PED, BV and TTP of the whole tumour were 28.85±20.29ml/min/ml, 23.16±8.09HU, 12.13±5.21ml/100g, and 35.05±13.85s, respectively. Mean MVD in whole tumour at magnification (×200) was 15.75±4.34microvessel/tumour sample (vessels/0.723mm2). PED and BV were correlated with MVD (r =0.651 and r =0.977, respectively, all p <0.05). However, PF and TTP were not correlated with MVD (r =0.070 and r =0.100, respectively, all p >0.05). Conclusion: The BV value of first-pass perfusion CT could reflect MVD in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and can be an indicator for evaluating the tumour angiogenesis. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Perfusion CT is an attractive technique to assess tumor vascularity, and no studies have addressed the relationship between CT perfusion imaging and gastric tumor angiogenesis with volume-based technique. This study aims to assess the correlation between perfusion CT parameters using a volume-based technique and immunohistochemical markers of angiogenesis in gastric adenocarcinoma. Methods: 37 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma who completed whole tumor CT perfusion examination with volume-based technique were studied. Post surgical specimens were stained using a polyclonal antibody to VEGF and CD34. Perfusion measurements were correlated with microvessel density (MVD) and VEGF by using Pearson or Spearman rank correlation analysis, in which a P value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean MVD of all 37 tumors was 108.9 ± 38.2 vessels/0.723 mm². 70.3% (26 of 37) of tumors expressed VEGF positively. MVD of gastric adenocarcinoma was significantly correlated with blood volume (the Pearson correlation coefficient being 0.420, P = 0.001). No correlations were found between VEGF expression and perfusion CT parameters. There were no significant differences in the parameters between the high and low MVD groups, and between the positive and negative VEGF groups. Abstract: Three molybdate-based conversion coatings on electroplated zinc have been prepared and the composition, morphology, and structure of these coatings are measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. It was found that these coatings with ‘meshwork’ surface were complex coatings composed of multiple compounds. Molybdenum species were present in the conversion coating as Mo (VI) and Mo (IV) compounds. The results of neutral salt spray test showed that molybdate-based conversion coatings with the addition of H3PO4, SiO2 and TiOSO4 in the passivation baths possess higher corrosion resistance compared with chromate conversion coatings, which was due to the compactness and anti-corrosion essence of the conversion coating. Abstract: The kinetics of ferrite transformation in a Fe–0.2C–2Mn (mass%) alloy after deformation in undercooled austenite region were studied with regard to alloying element-partitioned and partitionless growth. According to the local equilibrium theory of diffusion-controlled growth, partitioned growth controlled by slow Mn diffusion occurs at a low undercooling, whereas partitionless growth at a larger undercooling is the much faster process, which is controlled by carbon diffusion. The alloy with or without deformation was isothermally reacted at temperatures that encompass the two growth modes. The ferrite growth rate at each temperature increases by austenite deformation. The acceleration at higher temperatures is more significant, probably due to the larger contribution of stored deformation energy in the total driving force for ferrite transformation. The transition temperature from partitionless to partitioned growth of ferrite as well as Ae3 temperature increases after austenite deformation, resulting in acceleration of ferrite growth rates between the previous and new transition temperatures by 1–2 orders of magnitude. Abstract: Coronary artery calcium is a sensitive marker of coronary artery disease (CAD). This study was to determine the relationship between coronary calcium score (CCS) and angiographic stenosis on a patient-based or vessel-based analysis. 91 consecutive patients underwent both low dose 64-slice CT calcium scoring scan and conventional angiography of the heart. The total CCS of abnormal coronary angiogram (n =45) was 297.38±416.93, whereas that of normal coronary angiogram (n =46) was 5.37±9.35 (P <0.001). The CCS and degree of stenosis were moderately correlated on patient-based or vessel-based analysis (r =0.517, 0.521, respectively; both P <0.001). Abstract: Ternary Ni-based amorphous films can serve as a diffusion barrier layer for Cu interconnects in ultralarge-scale integration (ULSI) applications. In this paper, electroless Ni–Mo–P films deposited on SiO2 layer without sputtered seed layer were prepared by using Pd-activated self-assembled monolayer (SAM). The solutions and operating conditions for pretreatment and deposition were presented, and the formation of Pd-activated SAM was demonstrated by XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) analysis and BSE (back-scattered electron) observation. The effects of the concentration of Na2MoO4 added in electrolytes, pH value, and bath temperature on the surface morphology and compositions of Ni–Mo–P films were investigated. The microstructures, diffusion barrier property, electrical resistivity, and adhesion were also examined. Based on the experimental results, the Ni–Mo–P alloys produced by using Pd-activated SAM had an amorphous or amorphous-like structure, and possessed good performance as diffusion barrier layer. Objective: To investigate features of crush extremity fractures associated with massive earthquake on digital radiography (DR) and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT).Materials and Methods: Six hundred and twenty-three consecutive patients with clinically confirmed crush extremity fractures arising from the 2008 Sichuan earthquake were enrolled into our study. Six hundred and eleven patients with suggested extremity fractures underwent DR, and 12 patients with possible knee fractures underwent MDCT. Image data were retrospectively reviewed, with the focus on anatomic sites, numbers, and status of the fractures.Results: Extremity fractures occurred in lower extremities in 428 patients, upper extremities in 151, and both lower and upper extremities in 44. Lower extremity fractures were more common than upper extremity fractures (P < 0.05), and the commonly involved bones were the tibia and fibula in 141 patients, femur in 102, tibia in 52, and fibula in 40. According to the numbers of bones involved, multiple bone fractures occurred in 336 patients and included lower extremity fractures in 231, upper extremity fractures in 61, and both lower and upper fractures in 44. Multiple fractures in lower extremities were seen more often than in upper extremities (P < 0.05). As for status of the extremity fractures, comminuted fractures occurred in 324 patients and included lower extremity fractures in 248, upper extremity fractures in 51, and both lower and upper extremity fractures in 25. Comminuted fractures were more common in lower extremities than in upper extremities (P < 0.05).Conclusion: Multiple and comminuted fractures, predominantly in the lower extremities, could be considered as features of crush extremity fractures associated with the massive Sichuan earthquake. Summary: Purpose: To investigate the value of 64-detector row CT first-pass perfusion imaging in the evaluation of tumor perfusion in patients with lung carcinoma, and to assess the correlation between the perfusion parameters and tumor angiogenesis. Materials and methods: Forty-six surgically peripheral lung carcinomas were examined with 64-detector row CT. First-pass CT perfusion study comprised of 12 repeated spiral acquisitions over 60s following a 50-ml intravenous bolus of contrast medium at 6–7ml/s. Tumor specimens were assessed for microvessel density (MVD). Perfusion, peak enhancement intensity (PEI), time to peak (TTP), and blood volume (BV) and MVD of the tumor were compared by means of one-way ANOVA analysis of variance among histological type, size, metastasis and necrosis. Pearson correlation coefficients were conducted to represent the relationships between the perfusion parameters and MVD of the tumor. Results: Mean values for perfusion, PEI, TTP, and BV of the 46 tumors were 70.3±39.4ml/min/ml, 67.0±37.6 HU, 36.9±11.2s, and 34.9±17.9ml/100g, respectively. No statistically significant differences in perfusion parameters were found among different histological types (p >0.05). Considerable differences with higher perfusion, PEI and BV were noted in tumor≤3.0cm than in tumor>3.0cm (p <0.05). No statistically significant differences were found between nodule metastasis positive and negative groups (p >0.05). The necrotic tumors showed significantly lower perfusion, PEI and BV compared with non-necrotic tumors (p <0.05). Perfusion, PEI, and BV of the necrotic part manifested significantly lower, but TTP longer, than those of non-necrotic part of the necrotic tumors (p <0.05). Perfusion, PEI and BV were positively correlated with extent of MVD (r =0.715, 0.681, 0.762, respectively, all p <0.001), whereas no significant correlation was found between TTP and MVD (r =−0.154, p >0.05). Conclusion: 64-detector row CT first-pass perfusion imaging is a valuable noninvasive method in evaluating tumor perfusion of peripheral lung carcinoma. Objective: To determine the characteristics of tuberculous Addison's disease on the axial and multiplanar reformatted (MPR) images of the multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT). Materials and Methods: The unenhanced and contrast-enhanced MDCT features in 19 patients with tuberculous Addison's disease were retrospectively assessed for the location, contour, size, calcification, attenuation, and enhancement patterns. The correlation between the duration of Addison's disease and the percentage of calcification presence was evaluated. Results: The adrenal glands were infected bilaterally in all of the 19 cases (100%, 38 glands). Enlargement of the glands appeared in 18 cases (94.7%, 36 glands) and the remaining one case (5.3%, two glands) showed atrophy bilaterally. Of the 36 enlarged adrenals, 13 (36.1%) had preserved contours, and the other 23 (63.9%) were mass-like. The size of the adrenals ranged from 0.6 to 4.8 cm (mean 1.92+/-0.96 cm). Calcification was revealed in 16 adrenals (16/38, 42.1%), increasing in incidence with disease progression. Fourteen of the 36 (38.9%) enlarged adrenals showed peripheral enhancement while the remaining 22 (61.1%) demonstrated heterogeneous enhancement. The DeltaCT value, the attenuation measurement of mass-like lesions, was less in the central area (7+/-4 HU) than that in the peripheral area (32+/-14 HU) (P<0.01) between the unenhanced and contrast-enhanced scan. Conclusion: MDCT can reveal the characteristic morphology and CT attenuation in the tuberculous Addison's disease. Abstract: Adrenal glands are common sites of diseases. With dramatically increased use of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, more and more uncommon adrenal masses have been detected incidentally at abdominal examinations performed for other purposes. In this article, uncommon adrenal masses are classified as cystic masses (endothelial cysts, epithelial cysts, parasitic cysts, and pseudocysts), solid masses (ganglioneuroma, ganglioneuroblastoma, extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP), neurilemmoma, and lymphoma), fat-containing masses (myelolipoma, teratoma), and infectious masses (tuberculoma), and the imaging features of these uncommon masses are demonstrated. Although most of these lesions do not have specific imaging features, some fat-containing masses and cystic lesions present with characteristic appearances, such as myelolipoma, teratoma, and hydatid. Combination with histopathologic characteristic of these uncommon masses of adrenal gland, radiological features of these lesions on CT and MR imaging can be accurately understood with more confidences. Moreover, CT and MRI are highly accurate in localization of uncommon adrenal masses, and useful to guide surgical treatments. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Purpose: To describe CT morphology of untreated adrenal tuberculosis during the different stages of the natural history of the disease and to evaluate the diagnostic implications of CT features. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated CT features in 42 patients with documented adrenal tuberculosis for the location, size, morphology, and enhancement patterns shown on CT images. The clinical duration were correlated with the CT features. Results: Of the 42 patients with untreated adrenal tuberculosis, bilaterally enlarged adrenal glands were revealed in 38 cases (91%), unilaterally enlarged in 3 cases (7%), and normal size in 1 case (2%). Of the 41 cases (98%) with enlargement, mass-like enlargement was seen in 20 cases (49%) and enlargement with preserved contours in 21 cases (51%). Peripheral rim enhancement presented in 22 cases (52%) on contrast-enhanced CT. Non-enhanced CT scan revealed calcification in 21 cases (50%). As the duration of Addison's disease increased, the presence of calcification and contour preservation increased concomitantly (p<0.001), whereas peripheral rim enhancement and mass-like enlargement decreased concomitantly on CT images (p<0.001). Conclusion: CT may be helpful in diagnosing adrenal tuberculosis when clinically suspected, and CT features are correlated to the clinical duration of Addison's disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The present report makes an attempt to review some studies by Chinese researchers on bainite in steel from the viewpoint of thermodynamics, kinetics, crystallography, microstructure, mechanism, etc. Due to the complexity of bainite transformation in steels, the extensive disagreement between the diffusion school and the shear school on bainite formation are discussed. A sympathetic nucleation and diffusion controlled ledgewise growth mechanism rather than shear mechanism is favored by the authors. Abstract: In this study, the haemolytic activities of Astragalus membranaceus saponins (AMS) and its adjuvant potentials on the cellular and humoral immune responses of ICR mice against OVA were evaluated. We determined the haemolytic activity of AMS using 0.5% rabbit red blood cell. AMS showed a slight haemolytic effect, with its haemolytic percents being 0.66% at the concentration of 500μg/ml. Furthermore, the adjuvant potentials of AMS at three dose levels on the cellular and humoral immune responses of ICR mice against ovalbumin (OVA) were investigated. ICR mice were immunized subcutaneously with OVA 100μg alone or with OVA 100μg dissolved in saline containing Alum (200μg), QuilA (10 and 20μg) or AMS (50, 100 or 200μg) on Day 1 and 15. Two weeks later (Day 28), concanavalin A (Con A)-, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- and OVA-stimulated splenocyte proliferation and OVA-specific antibodies in serum were measured. AMS significantly enhanced the Con A-, LPS-, and OVA-induced splenocyte proliferation in the OVA-immunized mice especially at a dose of 100μg (P <0.05 or P <0.001). OVA-specific IgG, IgG1 and IgG2b antibody titers in serum were also significantly enhanced by AMS compared with OVA control group (P <0.01 or P <0.001). Moreover, no significant differences (P >0.05) were observed between enhancing effect of AMS and QuilA on the OVA-specific IgG, IgG1 and IgG2b antibody responses to OVA in mice. Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the most prevalent complication of diabetes, and has been demonstrated to be independently associated with cardiovascular events and mortality. This aim of this study was to investigate the subclinical left ventricular (LV) myocardial dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with and without DPN. Methods: One hundred and thirty T2DM patients without DPN, 61 patients with DPN and 65 age and sex-matched controls who underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging were included, all subjects had no symptoms of heart failure and LV ejection fraction ≥ 50%. LV myocardial non-infarct late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) was determined. LV global strains, including radial, circumferential and longitudinal peak strain (PS) and peak systolic and diastolic strain rates (PSSR and PDSR, respectively), were evaluated using CMR feature tracking and compared among the three groups. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to determine the independent factors of reduced LV global myocardial strains in T2DM patients. Results: The prevalence of non-infarct LGE was higher in patients with DPN than those without DPN (37.7% vs. 19.2%, p = 0.008). The LV radial and longitudinal PS (radial: 36.60 ± 7.24% vs. 33.57 ± 7.30% vs. 30.72 ± 8.68%; longitudinal: − 15.03 ± 2.52% vs. − 13.39 ± 2.48% vs. − 11.89 ± 3.02%), as well as longitudinal PDSR [0.89 (0.76, 1.05) 1/s vs. 0.80 (0.71, 0.93) 1/s vs. 0.77 (0.63, 0.87) 1/s] were decreased significantly from controls through T2DM patients without DPN to patients with DPN (all p < 0.001). LV radial and circumferential PDSR, as well as circumferential PS were reduced in both patient groups (all p < 0.05), but were not different between the two groups (all p > 0.05). Radial and longitudinal PSSR were decreased in patients with DPN (p = 0.006 and 0.003, respectively) but preserved in those without DPN (all p > 0.05). Multivariable linear regression analyses adjusting for confounders demonstrated that DPN was independently associated with LV radial and longitudinal PS (β = − 3.025 and 1.187, p = 0.014 and 0.003, respectively) and PDSR (β = 0.283 and − 0.086, p = 0.016 and 0.001, respectively), as well as radial PSSR (β = − 0.266, p = 0.007). Conclusions: There was more severe subclinical LV dysfunction in T2DM patients complicated with DPN than those without DPN, suggesting further prospective study with more active intervention in this cohort of patients. Background: Stress hyperglycemia occurs frequently in patients following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and may aggravate myocardial stiffness, but relevant evidence is still lacking. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the impact of admission stress hyperglycemia on left ventricular (LV) myocardial deformation in patients following AMI. Methods: A total of 171 patients with first AMI (96 with normoglycemia and 75 with hyperglycemia) underwent cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) examination were included. AMI patients were classified according to admission blood glucose level (aBGL): < 7.8 mmol/L (n = 96), 7.8–11.1 mmol/L (n = 41) and ≥ 11.1 mmol/L (n = 34). LV strains, including global radial/circumferential/longitudinal peak strain (PS)/peak systolic strain rate (PSSR)/peak diastolic strain rate (PDSR), were measured and compared between groups. Further, subgroup analyses were separately conducted for AMI patients with and without diabetes. Multivariate analysis was employed to assess the independent association between aBGL and LV global PS in AMI patients. Results: LV global PS, PSSR and PDSR were decreased in radial, circumferential and longitudinal directions in hyperglycemic AMI patients compared with normoglycemic AMI patients (all P < 0.05). These differences were more obvious in patients with diabetes than those without diabetes. AMI patients with aBGL between 7.8 and 11.1 mmol/L demonstrated significant decreased radial and longitudinal PS, radial PSSR, and radial and longitudinal PDSR than those with aBGL < 7.8 mmol/L (all P < 0.05). AMI patients with aBGL ≥ 11.1 mmol/L showed significantly decreased PS, PSSR and PDSR in all three directions than those with aBGL < 7.8 mmol/L, and decreased longitudinal PSSR than those with aBGL between 7.8 and 11.1 (all P < 0.05). Further, aBGL was significantly and independently associated with radial (β = − 0.166, P = 0.003) and longitudinal (β = 0.143, P = 0.008) PS. Conclusions: Hyperglycemia may exacerbate LV myocardial stiffness in patients experienced first AMI, leading to reduction in LV strains. aBGL was an independent indicator of impaired LV global PS in AMI patients. Titanium alloys have now become the first choice of tubing material used in the harsh oil- and gas-exploitation environment, while the interaction of force and medium is a serious threat to the safety and reliability of titanium alloy in service. In this paper, different stresses were applied to TC4 titanium alloy by four-point bending stress fixture, and the corrosion behavior of TC4 titanium alloy was studied by high-temperature and high-pressure simulation experiments and electrochemical techniques, and the microscopic morphologies and chemical composition of the surface film layer on the specimen were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), to reveal the corrosion-resistance mechanism of TC4 titanium alloy under different stress-loading conditions. The results showed that the pits appeared on the specimens loaded with elastic stress, but the degree of pitting corrosion was still lighter, and the surface film layer showed n-type semiconductor properties with cation selective permeability. While the pits on the specimens loaded with plastic stress were deeper and wider in size, and the semiconductor type of the surface film layer changed to p-type, it was easier for anions such as Cl− and CO32− to adsorb on, destroy, and pass through the protective film and then to contact with the matrix, resulting in a decrease in corrosion resistance of TC4 titanium alloy. • The sound source and propagation of pantograph region are presented. • The contribution rates of the pantograph components are quantitatively analyzed. • Main sound propagation structure is extracted by proper orthogonal decomposition. • Sound propagation behavior is analyzed by cluster-based reduced-order modeling. Due to the limited understanding of spatial sound field and contribution of pantograph, a deep analysis is presented to extract understanding the aerodynamic noise characteristics of high-speed trains pantograph system. The near-field and far-field noise are predicted by the acoustic perturbation equations and Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation, respectively. The spatial sound propagation is analyzed by proper orthogonal decomposition and cluster-based reduced-order modelling. The flow field results predicted by large eddy simulation show that the flow behind pantograph is governed by hierarchical structures, which occurs to be featured with three layers as well as periodic evolution. The dipole source is dominated in far-field radiated noise while the quadrupole source is negligible, since the intensity of the quadrupole source is less than that of the dipole source. The contribution rates of base-frame, pan-head, groove, upper-arm, horn, lower-arm and rod-insulator are higher than the other components, and the radiated sound energy of them accounts for approximately 90% of the total energy. The noise contribution of pan-head exceeds 10% at the frequency of 1000 Hz. Base-frame is the largest contributor, and more than 6% of noise contribution occurs at the frequency of 630 Hz. The spatial sound propagation includes two major aspects: one is mainly reflected upwind from groove, and the other is propagated with the center of groove. Carbide coatings are very important in molding industries due to their good anti-wear properties increasing the life of molds of hot and cold forging, extrusion and powder metallurgy exposing to abrasive forces. Diverse processes are applied to produce carbide coatings. One of them is the thermo-reactive diffusion method (TRD) using a molten salt bath. This process has many advantages including cost-effectiveness over other similar surface coating methods. The aim of this study is the formation of carbide-composite coatings using molten salt baths containing oxides of carbide forming elements individually and in a mixed form on SKD-11 cold work tool steel at 1000 °C. For this purpose, two sets of experiments were considered in this study. In experiment A, a chromium oxide bath and then a mixed chromium oxide and vanadium oxide bath with a molar ratio of Cr to V equal to 0.66 were used. In experiment B, at first a mixed chromium oxide and vanadium oxide bath (Cr/V ratio = 0.66) and next a single bath of vanadium oxide were utilized. To evaluate and compare the produced coatings, FE-SEM, EPMA (point, line and map), XRD analysis, nano-indentation and wear tests were performed. The results showed that the coatings include chromium carbides (Cr 3 C 2 , Cr 7 C 3 and Cr 23 C 6) and vanadium carbides (V 2 C, V 6 C 5 and V 8 C 7) as well as a carbon-chromium-vanadium triple phase with the composition of Cr 2 C 2 V. Moreover, the best hardness and abrasion resistance were gained for the coating produced in the molten bath containing chromium oxide and vanadium oxide after experiencing a chromium oxide bath. Background: Glycemic control, as measured by glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), is an important biomarker to evaluate diabetes severity and is believed to be associated with heart failure development. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) commonly coexist, and the combination of these two diseases indicates a considerably poorer outcome than either disease alone. Therefore, glycemic control should be carefully managed. The present study aimed to explore the association between glycemic control and clinical outcomes, and to determine the optimal glycemic target in this specific population. Methods: A total of 262 patients who underwent cardiac MRI were included and were split by HbA1c levels [HbA1c < 6.5% (intensive control), HbA1c 6.5-7.5% (modest control), and HbA1c > 7.5% (poor control)]. The biventricular volume and function, as well as left ventricular (LV) systolic strains in patients in different HbA1c categories, were measured and compared. The primary and secondary outcomes were recorded. The association of different HbA1c levels with adverse outcomes was assessed. Results: Despite similar biventricular ejection fractions, both patients with intensive and poor glycemic control exhibited prominent deterioration of LV systolic strain in the longitudinal component (P = 0.004). After a median follow-up of 35.0 months, 55 patients (21.0%) experienced at least one confirmed endpoint event. Cox multivariable analysis indicated that both patients in the lowest and highest HbA1c categories exhibited a more than 2-fold increase in the risk for primary outcomes [HbA1c < 6.5%: hazard ratio (HR) = 2.42, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.07–5.45; P = 0.033; HbA1c > 7.5%: HR = 2.24, 95% CI = 1.01–4.99; P = 0.038] and secondary outcomes (HbA1c < 6.5%: HR = 2.84, 95% CI = 1.16–6.96; P = 0.022; HbA1c > 7.5%: HR = 2.65, 95% CI = 1.08–6.50; P = 0.038) compared with those in the middle HbA1c category. Conclusions: We showed a U-shaped association of glycemic control with clinical outcomes in patients with T2DM and HFrEF, with the lowest risk of adverse outcomes among patients with modest glycemic control. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) can increase the risk of morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease and obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD), which usually have a poor prognosis. This study aimed to explore the impact of MetS on left ventricular (LV) deformation and function in OCAD patients and investigate the independent factors of impaired LV function and deformation. Materials and methods: A total of 121 patients with OCAD and 52 sex- and age-matched controls who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance scanning were enrolled in the study. All OCAD patients were divided into two groups: OCAD with MetS [OCAD(MetS+), n = 83] and OCAD without MetS [OCAD(MetS−), n = 38]. LV functional and global strain parameters were measured and compared among the three groups. Multivariable linear regression analyses were constructed to investigate the independent factors of LV impairment in OCAD patients. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed to test the prediction efficiency of MetS for LV impairment. Results: From controls to the OCAD(MetS−) group to the OCAD(MetS+) group, LV mass (LVM) increased, and LV global function index (LVGFI) and LV global longitudinal peak strain (GLPS) decreased (all p < 0.05). Compared with the OCAD(MetS−) group, the LV GLPS declined significantly (p = 0.027), the LVM increased (p = 0.006), and the LVGFI decreased (p = 0.043) in the OCAD(MetS+) group. After adjustment for covariates in OCAD patients, MetS was an independent factor of decreased LV GLPS (β = − 0.211, p = 0.002) and increased LVM (β = 0.221, p = 0.003). The logistic multivariable regression analysis and ROC analysis showed that combined MetS improved the efficiency of predicting LV GLPS reduction (AUC = 0.88) and LVM (AUC = 0.89) increase. Conclusions: MetS aggravated the damage of LV deformation and function in OCAD patients and was independently associated with LV deformation and impaired LV strain. Additionally, MetS increased the prediction efficiency of increased LVM and decreased LV GLPS. Early detection and intervention of MetS in patients with OCAD is of great significance. Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular death, overall mortality and heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The present study investigated the additive effects of paroxysmal AF on left ventricular (LV) function and deformation in T2DM patients with or without AF using the cardiovascular magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR-FT) technique. Methods: The present study encompassed 225 T2DM patients differentiated by the presence or absence of paroxysmal AF [T2DM(AF+) and T2DM(AF−), respectively], along with 75 age and sex matched controls, all of whom underwent CMR examination. LV function and global strains, including radial, circumferential and longitudinal peak strain (PS), as well as peak systolic and diastolic strain rates (PSSR and PDSR, respectively), were measured and compared among the groups. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to examine the factors associated with LV global strains in patients with T2DM. Results: The T2DM(AF+) group was the oldest, had the highest LV end‑systolic volume index, lowest LV ejection fraction and estimated glomerular filtration rate compared to the control and T2DM(AF−) groups, and presented a shorter diabetes duration and lower HbA1c than the T2DM(AF−) group. LV PS-radial, PS-longitudinal and PDSR-radial declined successively from controls through the T2DM(AF−) group to the T2DM(AF+) group (all p < 0.001). Compared to the control group, LV PS-circumferential, PSSR-radial and PDSR-circumferential were decreased in the T2DM(AF+) group (all p < 0.001) but preserved in the T2DM(AF−) group. Among all clinical indices, AF was independently associated with worsening LV PS-longitudinal (β = 2.218, p < 0.001), PS-circumferential (β = 3.948, p < 0.001), PS-radial (β = − 8.40, p < 0.001), PSSR-radial and -circumferential (β = − 0.345 and 0.101, p = 0.002 and 0.014, respectively), PDSR-radial and -circumferential (β = 0.359 and − 0.14, p = 0.022 and 0.003, respectively). Conclusions: In patients with T2DM, the presence of paroxysmal AF further exacerbates LV function and deformation.
