AimsTo develop and validate an individualized nomogram for differentiating the histologic subtypes (adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) of subpleural non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) based on ultrasound parameters and clinical data.MethodsThis study was conducted retrospectively between March 2018 and December 2019. Patients were randomly assigned to a development cohort (DC, n=179) and a validation cohort (VC, n=77). A total of 7 clinical parameters and 16 ultrasound parameters were collected. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis was employed to identify the most significant predictors utilizing a 10-fold cross-validation. The multivariate logistic regression model was applied to investigate the relevant factors. An individualized nomogram was then developed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration plot and decision curve analysis (DCA) were applied for model validation in both DC and VC.ResultsFollowing the final regression analysis, gender, serum carcinoembryonic antigen, lesion size and perfusion defect in contrast-enhanced ultrasound were entered into the nomogram. The model showed moderate predictive ability, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.867 for DC and 0.838 for VC. The calibration curves of the model showed good agreement between actual and predicted probabilities. The ROC and DCA curves demonstrated that the nomogram exhibited a good predictive performance.ConclusionWe developed a nomogram that can predict the histologic subtypes of subpleural NSCLC. Both internal and external validation revealed optimal discrimination and calibration, indicating that the nomogram may have clinical utility. This model has the potential to assist clinicians in making treatment recommendations.

This paper gives a definition of the Industrial Internet and expounds on the academic connotation of the future Industrial Internet. From this foundation, we outline the development and current status of the Industrial Internet in China and globally. Moreover, we detail the avant-garde paradigms encompassed within the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)’s “Future Industrial Internet Fundamental Theory and Key Technologies” research plan and its corresponding management strategies. This research initiative endeavors to enhance interdisciplinary collaborations, aiming for a synergistic alignment of industry, academia, research, and practical implementations. The primary focus of the research plan is on the pivotal scientific challenges inherent to the future industrial internet. It is poised to traverse the “first mile”, encompassing foundational research and pioneering innovations specific to the industrial internet, and seamlessly bridges to the “last mile”, ensuring the effective commercialization of scientific and technological breakthroughs into tangible industrial market applications. The anticipated contributions from this initiative are projected to solidify both the theoretical and practical scaffolding essential for the cultivation of a globally competitive industrial internet infrastructure in China.

Abstract Automatic modulation classification plays a critical role in the intelligent reception of unknown wireless signals. In practice, the dynamic wireless environment brings a great challenge, and the actual test model is inconsistent with the training model. Therefore, aiming at the problem of noise mismatch, this paper proposes a new modulation classification method based on KD-GoogLeNet and Squeeze-Excitation (KD-GSENet). Using the k-dimensional tree, the complex wireless signals are converted into color images rather than normal constellations, which can enhance the classification features. Considering the attention block has the inherent advantage of assigning more weights to important features, this paper further uses it to improve the GoogLeNet. Finally, extensive experiments are presented including Gaussian noise, non-Gaussian noise, and the scenarios of noise mismatch. Numerical results verify the superior classification performance of the proposed KD-GSENet under different scenarios.

Multimode interference (MMI) couplers based on silicon slot-waveguide structures have received widespread attention in recent years. The key issues that need to be addressed are the size and loss of such devices. This study introduces a 1 × 3 silicon-based slot-waveguide multimode interference power splitter. The device uses a gallium-nitride slot-waveguide structure to reduce the length of the coupling region and decrease additional losses. To reduce the width of the coupling region, the multimode interference coupling area is designed with a parabolic-shaped structure. The introduction of a tapered structure between the input/output waveguides and the coupling region improves additional losses and non-uniformity. Furthermore, we conducted an analysis of the fabrication tolerances of the coupling region. In this paper, we use mode solution to simulate the design of the device in the 1550 nm optical wavelength range. The eigenmode expansion method is used to simulate and optimize the parameters of the device. The device is simulated using the eigenmode expansion solver. The simulation results show that the total length of the coupling region for the device is only 4 μm. The normalized transmission of the device is 0.992, and its excess loss and imbalance are 0.036 dB and 0.003 dB, respectively. The proposed power splitter can be applied to integrated optical circuit design, optical sensing, and optical power measurement.

Optical power splitters (OPSs) are utilized extensively in integrated photonic circuits, drawing significant interest in research on power splitters with adjustable splitting ratios. This paper introduces a compact, low-loss 1 × 2 asymmetric multimode interferometric (MMI) optical power splitter on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform. The device is simulated using the finite difference method (FDM) and eigenmode expansion solver (EME). It is possible to attain various output power splitting ratios by making the geometry of the MMI central section asymmetric relative to the propagation axis. Six distinct optical power splitters are designed with unconventional splitting ratios in this paper, which substantiates that the device can achieve any power splitter ratios (PSRs) in the range of 95:5 to 50:50. The dimensions of the multimode section were established at 2.9 × (9.5–10.9) μm. Simulation results show a range of unique advantages of the device, including a low extra loss of less than 0.4 dB, good fabrication tolerance, and power splitting ratio fluctuation below 3% across the 1500 nm to 1600 nm wavelength span.

Museum exhibition halls are one of the most visually demanding buildings. However, unique lighting methods, luminance contrast, display cabinet reflections lead to complex spatial luminance distribution and intense glare, thus seriously affecting the visual effect. Modeling accurate glare calculations is an effective way to reduce the risk of visual discomfort. In this study, we obtain the real glare perception in the lighting scenes of museum exhibition halls through small-sample evaluation experiments, and then propose an improved model on the basis of testing the accuracy rate of UGR to be 41.67%, which contains key parameters characterizing the effects caused by multiple glares. Then we optimized the coefficients and power indices according to the real glare perception, and verified that the accuracy rate of glare calculation in museum exhibition halls was improved by 36.46% compared with that of UGR, and gave the glare rating corresponding to the calculated value of the model.

Abstract Recent considerable technological advances in ultrasound‐based treatment modality provides a magnificent prospect for scientific communities to conquer the related diseases, which is featured with remarkable tissue penetration, non‐invasive and non‐thermal characteristics. As one of the critical elements that influences treatment outcomes, titanium (Ti)‐based sonosensitizers with distinct physicochemical properties and exceptional sonodynamic efficiency have been applied extensively in the field of nanomedical applications. To date, a myriad of methodologies has been designed to manipulate the sonodynamic performance of titanium‐involved nanomedicine and further enhance the productivity of reactive oxygen species for disease treatments. In this comprehensive review, the sonocatalytic optimization of diversified Ti‐based nanoplatforms, including defect engineering, plasmon resonance modulation, heterojunction, modulating tumor microenvironment, as well as the development of synergistic therapeutic modalities is mainly focused. The state‐of‐the‐art Ti‐based nanoplatforms ranging from preparation process to the extensive medical applications are summarized and highlighted, with the goal of elaborating on future research prospects and providing a perspective on the bench‐to‐beside translation of these sonocatalytic optimization tactics. Furthermore, to spur further technological advancements in nanomedicine, the difficulties currently faced and the direction of sonocatalytic optimization of Ti‐based therapeutic nanomedicine are proposed and outlooked.

Underwater robot technologies are crucial for marine resource exploration and autonomous manipulation, and many breakthroughs have been achieved with key indicators (e.g., dive depth and navigation range). However, due to the complicated underwater environment, the state-of-the-art sensing technologies cannot handle all the needs of underwater observations. To improve the autonomous operating capacity of underwater robots, there is an urgent need to develop underwater sensing technology. Therefore, in this paper, we first introduce the development of underwater robot platforms. We then review some key sensing technologies such as underwater acoustic sensing, underwater optical sensing, underwater magnetic sensing, and underwater bionic sensing. Finally, we point out the challenges of underwater sensing technology and future directions in addressing these challenges, e.g., underwater bionic sensing, new underwater material development, multisource information fusion, and the construction of general test platforms.

5G communication technology provides strong support for the power Internet of Things, and it also introduces new security challenges in the application process of the power industry. Starting from the analysis of the power 5G business requirements, this article proposes five 5G enterprise networking construction plans based on different collaborative processing relationships, and conducts a comparative analysis in security, delay, independence, cost, and staffing. According to the analysis of power business requirements and enterprise networking mode, a hybrid networking architecture of 5G and power communication network is proposed, and the 5G network slicing architecture is re-segmented according to different business scenarios. Finally, the new risks and challenges introduced by 5G technology are analyzed in detail from the four parts of terminal access, edge computing, network channel, and core network. Two important risks pointed are specified through a security risk assessment algorithm. In the future, it is also necessary to further study key technologies such as lightweight authentication algorithms and network slice security isolation to realize the real security use of 5G network in the power industry.

Background Previous studies have documented a high incidence of toxicity in patients with ultra‐central non‐small cell lung cancer (UC‐NSCLC) treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). However, these studies mainly focused on early stage patients and included small sample populations. We reviewed the outcomes and toxicity of SBRT in patients with advanced stage UC‐NSCLC treated at our institution. Methods Fifty‐one consecutive patients with advanced UC‐NSCLC treated with SBRT using a regular regimen of 35 Gy administered in five fractions between December 2014 and August 2017 were reviewed. UC was defined as tumors abutting or overlapping the trachea or the proximal bronchial tree. We included locally advanced patients who were unfit or unwilling to receive conventional chemoradiotherapy and patients with metastatic or postoperative recurrent disease. Clinical outcomes, dosimetric parameters, and SBRT toxicity were analyzed. Results The median age was 63 years (range: 35–82), and the median tumor diameter was 6.8 cm (range: 2.1–12.4). The overall median follow‐up duration was 17 months (25.5 months for surviving patients). The median local control was 17 months for stage III patients and 11 months for stage IV or recurrent patients. Grade 3 or higher toxicity was observed in 9.8% of patients: G3 radiation pneumonitis (5.9%) and possible treatment‐related death (3.9%). Conclusion SBRT with a moderate dose in 4–6 fractions is effective and tolerable for patients with advanced stage UC‐NSCLC. However, caution should be taken considering possible treatment‐related death. Further studies are warranted.

ObjectiveTo develop and prospective validate an ultrasound (US) prediction model to differentiate between benign and malignant subpleural pulmonary lesions (SPLs).MethodsThis study was conducted retrospectively from July 2017 to December 2018 (development cohort [DC], n = 592) and prospectively from January to April 2019 (validation cohort [VC], n = 220). A total of 18 parameters of B-mode US and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) were acquired. Based on the DC, a model was developed using binary logistic regression. Then its discrimination and calibration were verified internally in the DC and externally in the VC, and its diagnostic performance was compared with those of the existing US diagnostic criteria in the two cohorts. The reference criteria were from the comprehensive diagnosis of clinical-radiological-pathological made by two senior respiratory physicians.ResultsThe model was eventually constructed with 6 parameters: the angle between lesion border and thoracic wall, basic intensity, lung-lesion arrival time difference, ratio of arrival time difference, vascular sign, and non-enhancing region type. In both internal and external validation, the model provided excellent discrimination of benign and malignant SPLs (C-statistic: 0.974 and 0.980 respectively), which is higher than that of “lesion-lung AT difference ≥ 2.5 s” (C-statistic: 0.842 and 0.777 respectively, P

Remote technology refers to applications that rely on wireless/wired network communication technology to enable the effective interconnection of multiple terminals distributed in different geographical locations, which helps to achieve effective information dissemination and sharing, and thereby improve the convenience and efficiency of remote working and learning. With the rapid development of sensor technology, information and communications technology (ICT), artificial intelligence (AI), and other related technologies, remote technology has made considerable progress since the 1970s and has been widely used in many fields, such as education, medicine. Especially the outbreak of COVID-19, remote technology achieves dramatically development within a short period of time, and leads to big changes in the way of working in many industries and peoples’ lifestyles. Therefore, it was selected as one of the “Top 10 Global Breakthrough Technologies” by MIT Technology Review in 2021.①① Original source in Chinese: Y. Summary: Here, we show that HEMATOLOGICAL AND NEUROLOGICAL EXPRESSED 1-LIKE (HN1L) is a targetable breast cancer stem cell (BCSC) gene that is altered in 25% of whole breast cancer and significantly correlated with shorter overall or relapse-free survival in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. HN1L silencing reduced the population of BCSCs, inhibited tumor initiation, resensitized chemoresistant tumors to docetaxel, and hindered cancer progression in multiple TNBC cell line-derived xenografts. Additionally, gene signatures associated with HN1L correlated with shorter disease-free survival of TNBC patients. We defined HN1L as a BCSC transcription regulator for genes involved in the LEPR-STAT3 signaling axis as HN1L binds to a putative consensus upstream sequence of STAT3, LEPTIN RECEPTOR, and MIR-150. Our data reveal that BCSCs in TNBC depend on the transcription regulator HN1L for the sustained activation of the LEPR-STAT3 pathway, which makes it a potentially important target for both prognosis and BCSC therapy.

Two kinds of magnetite concentrates from Pilbara in Australia and an area in the northeast in China were used to explore the effect of wettability, which depends on particle size, on ballability. Capillary osmosis equipment of a horizontal plate was constructed based on the equation Washburn. To investigate the effect of particle size and wettability of ultrafine magnetite concentrates on ballability, ballability, balling test, and performance test were performed. The results suggest that ultrafine particle size and wettability strongly affect ballability. Its better wettability on account of particle ultrafine size characteristic is beneficial to improve its compressive strength. However, a narrow ultrafine particle-size distribution will limit the improvements in ballability, because it affects the capillary radius.

The conducted roasting tests were studied which pellets were made from blends of Western Australia ultrafine (WAU) magnetite concentrate and domestic magnetite concentrate or Brazilian hematite concentrate. The results show that the pellets made from 100% WAU magnetite concentrate exhibit inferior preheating and roasting performance under the following conditions:preheating at 1050℃ for 20 min and roasting at 1300℃ for 40 min, with compressive strengths of the preheated and fired pellets of each pellet 502 N and 2313 N, respectively. When blended 40% domestic magnetite concentrate or 20% Brazilian hematite concentrate with 60% or 80% WAU magnetite concentrate, the appropriate preheating and firing temperatures of the pellets are reduced from 1050℃ to 950℃ and 975℃, and from 1300℃ to 1250℃ and 1280℃, respectively. Moreover, the compressive strength of the fired pellets obviously improves to more than each pellet 2500 N. The microstructure of fired pellets made from WAU and domestic magnetite concentrate is characterized by fully grown Fe2O3 grains and close interlinkages among the hematite grains, which leads to low porosity and strong consolidation. In contrast, 20% Brazilian hematite concentrate blended with WAU magnetite concentrate yields nearly grown Fe2O3 grains in the fired pellets and only relatively close interlinkages between the hematite grains. The preheating and roasting performance of WAU magnetite concentrate pellets can be improved by optimizing the ore matching.

Dianchi Lake urban wetland park in Kunming is an important component of Dianchi lakeside wetlands, it is of great significance to the urban development and ecological protection of Kunming. To solve the problem of non-point source pollution of Dianchi Lake basin, the Dianchi Lake Pan-Asian International Urban Wetland Park is taken as an example, the rapid artificial infiltration treatment system and the comprehensive constructed wetland treatment system were designed for Dianchi Lake urban wetland park, and various design parameters and its influencing factors have been analyzed. After the deep treatment by the treatment system, the water quality reached the standards of landscape water. The planning of water system for Dianchi Lake urban wetland park provides a reference for designing plateau lake urban wetland parks.

Previous studies have suggested that breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) mediate metastasis, are resistant to radiation and chemotherapy, and contribute to relapse. Although several BCSC markers have been described, it is unclear whether these markers identify the same or independent BCSCs. Here, we show that BCSCs exist in distinct mesenchymal-like (epithelial-mesenchymal transition [EMT]) and epithelial-like (mesenchymal-epithelial transition [MET]) states. Mesenchymal-like BCSCs characterized as CD24−CD44+ are primarily quiescent and localized at the tumor invasive front, whereas epithelial-like BCSCs express aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), are proliferative, and are located more centrally. The gene-expression profiles of mesenchymal-like and epithelial-like BCSCs are remarkably similar across different molecular subtypes of breast cancer, and resemble those of distinct basal and luminal stem cells found in the normal breast. We propose that the plasticity of BCSCs that allows them to transition between EMT- and MET-like states endows these cells with the capacity for tissue invasion, dissemination, and growth at metastatic sites.

In this study, the authors propose a robust and high accurate pose estimation algorithm to solve the perspective‐N‐point problem in real time. This algorithm does away with the distinction between coplanar and non‐coplanar point configurations, and provides a unified formulation for the configurations. Based on the inverse projection ray, an efficient collinearity model in object–space is proposed as the cost function. The principle depth and the relative depth of reference points are introduced to remove the residual error of the cost function and to improve the robustness and the accuracy of the authors pose estimation method. The authors solve the pose information and the depth of the points iteratively by minimising the cost function, and then reconstruct their coordinates in camera coordinate system. In the following, the optimal absolute orientation solution gives the relative pose information between the estimated three‐dimensional (3D) point set and the 3D mode point set. This procedure with the above two steps is repeated until the result converges. The experimental results on simulated and real data show that the superior performance of the proposed algorithm: its accuracy is higher than the state‐of‐the‐art algorithms, and has best anti‐noise property and least deviation by the influence of outlier among the tested algorithms.

The CETP inhibitor, torcetrapib, was prematurely terminated from phase 3 clinical trials due to an increase in cardiovascular and noncardiovascular mortality. Because nearly half of the latter deaths involved patients with infection, we have tested torcetrapib and other CETPIs to see if they interfere with lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) or bactericidal/permeability increasing protein (BPI). No effect of these potent CETPIs on LPS binding to either protein was detected. Purified CETP itself bound weakly to LPS with a Kd ≥ 25 uM compared with 0.8 and 0.5 nM for LBP and BPI, respectively, and this binding was not blocked by torcetrapib. In whole blood, LPS induced tumor necrosis factor-α normally in the presence of torcetrapib. Furthermore, LPS had no effect on CETP activity. We conclude that the sepsis-related mortality of the ILLUMINATE trial was unlikely due to a direct effect of torcetrapib on LBP or BPI function, nor to inhibition of an interaction of CETP with LPS. Instead, we speculate that the negative outcome seen for patients with infections might be related to the changes in plasma lipoprotein composition and metabolism, or alternatively to the known off-target effects of torcetrapib, such as aldosterone elevation, which may have aggravated the effects of sepsis.
