Invasive alien plants have received increasing attention due to their worldwide environmental impacts, ecological concerns, and significant economic consequences. The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is an important global biodiversity hotspot hosting rich biodiversity and serving as a crucial component of the southwest ecological security barrier, with global conservation value. However, in recent years, invasive plants have been detrimental to the conservation of biodiversity and native ecosystems on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Here, 197 invasive plant species were recognized from the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, encompassing 133 genera across 47 families. We used the maximum entropy model (MaxEnt) method to predict the potential distribution of invasive alien plants on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Furthermore, potential geographic distribution regions suitable for 43 invasive alien plant species were found to be primarily concentrated in central and eastern Qinghai, southern and eastern Tibet, southwest Xinjiang, and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau part of Sichuan, Yunnan, and Gansu in China. Notably, the current potential distribution area for all 43 invasive alien plant species accounts for 29.92 % of the total area, with an increase of 32.72–59.39 % projected by 2050. Moreover, risk screening results confirm the high risk of invasion of most alien plants on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. This study provides a foundation for assessing the risks associated with introducing and managing invasive alien plants in the region. It also offers scientific support for conserving the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau’s unique biodiversity, ecological originality, and sustainable development during economic growth.

Intestinal fibrosis is a common complication of chronic intestinal diseases with the characteristics of fibroblast proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition after chronic inflammation, leading to lumen narrowing, structural and functional damage to the intestines, and life inconvenience for the patients. However, anti-inflammatory drugs are currently generally not effective in overcoming intestinal fibrosis making surgery the main treatment method. The development of intestinal fibrosis is a slow process and its onset may be the result of the combined action of inflammatory cells, local cytokines, and intestinal stromal cells. The aim of this study is to elucidate the pathogenesis [e.g., extracellular matrix (ECM), cytokines and chemokines, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), differentiation of fibroblast to myofibroblast and intestinal microbiota] underlying the development of intestinal fibrosis and to explore therapeutic advances (such as regulating ECM, cytokines, chemokines, EMT, differentiation of fibroblast to myofibroblast and targeting TGF-β) based on the pathogenesis in order to gain new insights into the prevention and treatment of intestinal fibrosis.

Abstract Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) comprises two different complexes: CBX-containing canonical PRC1 (cPRC1) and RYBP/YAF2-containing variant PRC1 (vPRC1). RYBP-vPRC1 or YAF2-vPRC1 catalyzes H2AK119ub through a positive-feedback model; however, whether RYBP and YAF2 have different regulatory functions is still unclear. Here, we show that the expression of RYBP and YAF2 decreases and increases, respectively, during neural differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Rybp knockout impairs neural differentiation by activating Wnt signaling and derepressing nonneuroectoderm-associated genes. However, Yaf2 knockout promotes neural differentiation and leads to redistribution of RYBP binding, increases enrichment of RYBP and H2AK119ub on the RYBP-YAF2 cotargeted genes, and prevents ectopic derepression of nonneuroectoderm-associated genes in neural-differentiated cells. Taken together, this study reveals that RYBP and YAF2 function differentially in regulating mESC neural differentiation.

Aucuba japonica Thunb is an evergreen woody ornamental plant with significant economic and ecological values. It also produces aucubin, showing a variety of biological activities. It is widely planted in the southwest region of China, including karst landscape areas in Guizhou Province. In January 2022, a serious leaf blight disease was observed on the leaves of A. japonica in the outdoor gardens of Guizhou University, Guiyang, Guizhou, China. The causal agent was identified as Colletotrichum aenigma through amplification and sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, translation of the chitin synthase (CHS) and actin (ACT) genes, and morphological characterizations. Koch’s postulates were confirmed by its pathogenicity on healthy leaves, including re-isolation and identification. To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. aenigma causing leaf blight on A. japonica worldwide. To identify pathogen characteristics that could be utilized for future disease management, the effects of temperature and light on mycelial growth, conidia production, and conidial germination, and the effects of humidity on conidial germination were studied. Optimal temperatures for mycelial growth of C. aenigma BY827 were 25–30°C, while 15°C and 35°C were favorable for conidia production. Concurrently, alternating 10-h light and 14-h dark, proved to be beneficial for mycelial growth and conidial germination. Additionally, conidial germination was enhanced at 90% humidity. In vitro screenings of ten chemical pesticides to assess their efficacy in suppressing C. aenigma representative strain BY827. Among them, difenoconazole showed the best inhibition rate, with an EC50 (concentration for 50% of maximal effect) value of 0.0148 μg/ml. Subsequently, field experiment results showed that difenoconazole had the highest control efficiency on A. japonica leaf blight (the decreasing rate of disease incidence and decreasing rate of disease index were 44.60 and 47.75%, respectively). Interestingly, we discovered that C. aenigma BY827 may develop resistance to mancozeb, which is not reported yet among Colletotrichum spp. strains. In conclusion, our study provided new insights into the causal agent of A. japonica leaf blight, and the effective fungicides evaluated provided an important basis and potential resource for the sustainable control of A. japonica leaf blight caused by C. aenigma in the field.

Abstract Chimonobambusa hirtinoda, a threatened species, is only naturally distributed in Doupeng Mountain, Duyun, Guizhou, China. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is used to obtain the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of C. hirtinoda. The sequence was assembled and analyzed for phylogenetic and evolutionary studies. Additionally, we compared the cp genome of C. hirtinoda with previously published Chimonobambusa species. The cp genome of C. hirtinoda has a total length of 139, 561 bp and 38.90% GC content. This genome included a large single -copy (LSC) region of 83, 166 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 20, 811 bp and a pair of inverted repeats of 21,792 bp each. We discovered 130 genes in the cp genome, including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA, and 8 rRNA genes. A total of 48 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were detected. The A/U preference of the third nucleotide in the cp genome of C. hirtinoda was obtained by measuring the codon usage frequency of amino acids. Furthermore, phylogenetic analysis using complete cp sequences and matK gene revealed a genetic relationship within the Chimonobambusa genus. This study reported the chloroplast genome of the C. hirtinoda.

The aim of this study was to characterize the riebeckite type rare earth ore found in the Bayan Obo deposit, in order to identify the distribution and occurrence of both rare earths and gangue species within the ore. Several analytical techniques were utilized to accomplish this, such as chemical analysis, quantitative XRD, a single polarizing microscope, and a mineral automatic analysis system. The analysis revealed that the primary rare earth minerals (REMs) in the ore were bastnaesite and monazite, with huanghoite, parisite, aeschynite, and fergusonite identified as secondary rare earth minerals. The main gangue species was magnetite, accompanied by smaller quantities of riebeckite and dolomite. The ore was rich in rare earth oxides, with a 3.81 wt% grade. The screen analysis of the pulverized ore indicates that the 43–100 μm fraction is the dominant size, while the finer size fractions below 43 μm contain the bastnaesite and monazite, as well as huanghoite, parisite, aeschynite, and fergusonite. Microstructural characterization showed that the REMs were both coarse-grained and fine-grained, occurring as granular aggregates and fine disseminations within the gangue. Bastnaesite and monazite were the major REMs, with dominant amounts of cerium, lanthanum, praseodymium, and neodymium, while parasite was identified as an impurity. Huanghoite and parisite contained barium and calcium as impurities, respectively. Aeschynite and fergusonite were REMs that included niobium in their composition. Bastnaesite and monazite were found to contain a much higher rare earth content than huanghoite, parisite, aeschynite, and fergusonite. Potential methods for recovering rare earths from this ore, such as magnetic separation and froth flotation, have been identified and may be applicable to similar ferruginous rare earth-bearing ores.

Chimonobambusa utilis (Keng) Keng F is an endemic species distributed only in the Daluoshan Mountains, southwest China. Ch. utilis is popular due to its unique flavor and deliciousness and plays an important role in the industrial revolution in many counties in China. A total of 20 natural populations were sampled from the entire distribution range of Ch. utilis. In the present study, we used five EST-SSR molecular markers, three chloroplast DNA (trnH-psbA, atpF-atpH, and psbK-psbI), and one ITS molecular marker to elucidate the genetic diversity and phylogeography analyses of these Ch. utilis populations. The results exhibited that Ch. utilis populations showed lower genetic diversity than other angiosperms (HT = 0.752, HS = 0.364, and FST = 0.05021 for EST-SSR; HT = 0.956, Hs = 0.507, and FST = 0.70121 for cpDNA; HT = 0.868, Hs = 0.495, and FST = 0.70121 for nrDNA). A total of 40 alleles were detected for five polymorphic loci. We detected 20 polymorphic sites and 11 haplotypes within 1,398 bp of cpDNA and 59 polymorphic sites and 32 haplotypes within the 589 bp of the ITS sequence. Based on the haplotype distribution, we infer that there were at least two glacial refuges of Ch. utilis populations during the Quaternary Ice Age. The genetic and geographic distance were correlated (p < 0.05), indicating that narrow distribution might be the primary cause of the low genetic differentiation of Ch. utilis populations. Based on the genetic diversity of Ch. utilis populations, we recommend implementing effective genetic resource management and sustainable utilization.

In this paper, the influence of external terahertz electromagnetic fields with different frequencies of 4 THz, 10 THz, 15 THz, and 20 THz on the permeability of the Kv1.2 voltage-gated potassium ion channel on the nerve cell membrane was studied using the combined model of the “Constant Electric Field-Ion Imbalance” method by molecular dynamics. We found that although the applied terahertz electric field does not produce strong resonance with the –C=O groups of the conservative sequence T-V-G-Y-G amino acid residue of the selective filter (SF) of the channel, it would affect the stability of the electrostatic bond between potassium ions and the carbonyl group of T-V-G-Y-G of SF, and it would affect the stability of the hydrogen bond between water molecules and oxygen atoms of the hydroxyl group of the 374THR side chain at the SF entrance, changing the potential and occupied states of ions in the SF and the occurrence probability of the permeation mode of ions and resulting in the change in the permeability of the channel. Compared with no external electric field, when the external electric field with 15 THz frequency is applied, the lifetime of the hydrogen bond is reduced by 29%, the probability of the “soft knock on” mode is decreased by 46.9%, and the ion flux of the channel is activated by 67.7%. Our research results support the view that compared to “direct knock-on”, “soft knock-on” is a slower permeation mode.

Chimonobambusa luzhiensis (Poaceae: Bambusoideae) is an endangered plant endemic to Guizhou Province, China. Here, we report the complete chloroplast genome of C. luzhiensis. The plastid genome revealed a typical quadripartite structure with a length of 139,896 bp, including a large single-copy (LSC, 83,191 bp) region, a small single-copy (SSC, 12,811 bp) region, and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions (IRa and IRb, 21,797 bp). A total of 131 genes, including 86 protein-coding genes (PCGs), eight ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 37 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes were annotated, and the overall GC content was 38.8%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the relationship between C. luzhiensis is sister to C. tumidisinoda.

Chimonobambusa hejiangensis is a kind of bamboo that has excellent edible and economic value, which is endemic to southwest China. The study used next-generation sequencing to obtain the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of C. hejiangensis. The cp genome of C. hejiangensis has a total length of 138,908 bp, and consisted of an 82,495-bp large single-copy region, an 12,743-bp small single-copy region, and two 21,835-bp IR regions. In total, 112 unique genes were found in the cp genome, including 77 protein coding, 31 tRNA, and 4 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that C.hejiangensis and C. tumidissinoda are sister species within the Arundinarieae genus, where Chimonocalamus and Ampelocalamus are more closely related to them.
