This paper describes a high-resolution energy-efficient CMOS temperature sensor, intended for the temperature compensation of MEMS/quartz frequency references. The sensor is based on silicided poly-silicon thermistors, which are embedded in a Wien-bridge RC filter. When driven at a fixed frequency, the filter exhibits a temperature-dependent phase shift, which is digitized by an energy-efficient continuous-time phase-domain delta-sigma modulator. Implemented in a 0.18- $\mu \text{m}$ CMOS technology, the sensor draws 87 $\mu \text{A}$ from a 1.8 V supply and achieves a resolution of 410 $\mu \text{K}_{\textrm {rms}}$ in a 5-ms conversion time. This translates into a state-of-the-art resolution figure-of-merit of 0.13 pJ $\cdot$ K2. When packaged in ceramic, the sensor achieves an inaccuracy of 0.2 °C (3 $\sigma )$ from −40 °C to 85 °C after a single-point calibration and a correction for systematic nonlinearity. This can be reduced to ±0.03 °C (3 $\sigma )$ after a first-order fit. In addition, the sensor exhibits low 1/ $f$ noise and packaging shift.

A delta-sigma modulator architecture reducing the impact of the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) non-linearity in a multi-bit delta-sigma DAC is presented. By cascading and deterministic dithering, only small signals are processed by the multi-bit DAC, thus a large dynamic range can be maintained; by suppressing the out-of-band noise before being processed by the multi-bit DAC, less shaped-noise gets inter-modulated by the non-linear DAC, thus the raise of noise floor is reduced. The proposed architecture provides a practical way to implement a high-resolution multi-bit delta-sigma DAC at low over-sampling rate (OSR). System level simulations in MATLAB show that an average ENOB=14.5-bits can be achieved with 0.2% (standard deviation) DAC element mismatch at OSR = 10.

Genomes are organized into high-level three-dimensional structures, and DNA elements separated by long genomic distances can in principle interact functionally. Many transcription factors bind to regulatory DNA elements distant from gene promoters. Although distal binding sites have been shown to regulate transcription by long-range chromatin interactions at a few loci, chromatin interactions and their impact on transcription regulation have not been investigated in a genome-wide manner. Here we describe the development of a new strategy, chromatin interaction analysis by paired-end tag sequencing (ChIA-PET) for the de novo detection of global chromatin interactions, with which we have comprehensively mapped the chromatin interaction network bound by oestrogen receptor α (ER-α) in the human genome. We found that most high-confidence remote ER-α-binding sites are anchored at gene promoters through long-range chromatin interactions, suggesting that ER-α functions by extensive chromatin looping to bring genes together for coordinated transcriptional regulation. We propose that chromatin interactions constitute a primary mechanism for regulating transcription in mammalian genomes. © 2009 Macmillan Publishers Limited. All rights reserved.

This paper represents a Time-to-digital Converter (TDC) architecture based in a FPGA. The proposed architecture relies on a single tapped-delay line to implement time-to-digital conversion, taking advantage of the fast dedicated carry chains available within FPGAs. The results of post-route simulation indicate that this architecture offered a time resolution of 34ps with a 12 ps precision. In a Virtex-4 FPGA that is fabricated in the 90nm process this structure achieved a resolution of 48ps and a precision of 35ps.Commonly, to design a TDC on a FPGA requires iterative manual adjustment in the placement and route of the circuit; however, in the architecture presented in this paper, we controls the performance of pivotal parts of the circuit with user constraints instead of manual adjustment, which makes this TDC architecture access to portability.
