Abstract A nomogram to estimate the risk of linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia in patients with renal impairment is not available. The aim of the study is to develop a nomogram for predicting linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia in patients with renal impairment and to investigate the incremental value of PNU-142300 concentration beyond clinical factors and linezolid trough concentration (Cmin) for risk prediction. Logistic regression was used to identify independent risk factors for linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia in patients with renal impairment and nomograms were established. The performance of the nomograms was assessed in terms of area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) , decision curve analysis (DCA) and calibration. Internal validation and external validation of the nomograms were also performed. Four nomograms were created: nomogram A including total bilirubin, creatinine clearance and concomitant mannitol use; nomogram B containing linezolid Cmin additionally; nomogram C containing total bilirubin, concomitant mannitol use, linezolid Cmin, and PNU142300 concentration; nomogram D including total bilirubin, concomitant mannitol use, and PNU142300 concentration. Nomogram C improved the prediction performance than nomogram A (AUROC 0.881 vs. 0.749; NRI 0.290; IDI 0.226) and nomogram B (AUROC 0.881 vs. 0.812; NRI 0.152; IDI 0.130) in the training cohort. DCA analysis showed that nomogram C yielded a greater net benefit. Compared with nomogram A and nomogram B, nomogram C also showed superior discriminatory efficacy, good calibration and clinical usefulness in the external validation cohort. The nomogram containing PNU-142300 concentration and linezolid Cmin had better predictive capability than that containing linezolid Cmin for predicting linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia in patients with renal impairment.

Abstract Background The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of intratumoral metabolic heterogeneity and quantitative 18F‐FDG PET/CT imaging parameters in predicting patient outcomes in thymic epithelial tumors (TETs). Methods This retrospective study included 100 patients diagnosed with TETs who underwent pretreatment 18F‐FDG PET/CT. The maximum and mean standardized uptake values (SUVmax and SUVmean), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) on PET/CT were measured. Heterogeneity index‐1 (HI‐1; standard deviation [SD] divided by SUVmean) and heterogeneity index‐2 (HI‐2; linear regression slopes of the MTV according with different SUV thresholds), were evaluated as heterogeneity indices. Associations between these parameters and patient survival outcomes were analyzed. Results The univariate analysis showed that Masaoka stage, TNM stage, WHO classification, SUVmax, SUVmean, TLG, and HI‐1 were significant prognostic factors for progression‐free survival (PFS), while MTV, HI‐2, age, gender, presence of myasthenia gravis, and maximum tumor diameter were not. Abstract Objective To establish the population pharmacokinetics (PPK) of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4)in women with preeclampsia (PE), and to determine the key covariates having an effect in magnesium pharmacokinetics in Chinese PE. Methods Pregnant women with PE prescribed MgSO4 were enrolled in this prospective study from April 2021 to April 2023. On the initial day of administration, the patients were administered a loading dose of 5 g in conjunction with 10 g of magnesium sulfate as a maintenance dose. On the second day, only the maintenance dose was administration, and maternal blood samples were taken at 0, 4, 5, and 12 h after the second day’s 10 g maintenance dose. The software Phoenix was used to estimate PPK parameters of MgSO4, such as clearance (CL) and volume of distribution (V), and to model PPK models with patient demographic, clinical, and laboratory covariates. Results A total of 199 blood samples were collected from 51 women with PE and PPK profiles were analyzed. The PPK of MgSO4 is consistent with to a one-compartment model. The base model adequately described the maternal serum magnesium concentrations after magnesium administration. The population parameter estimates were as follows: CL was 2.98 L/h, V was 25.07 L. The model predictions changed significantly with covariates (BMI, creatinine clearance, and furosemide). Furosemide statistically influences V. The creatinine clearance, BMI and furosemide jointly affects CL. Monte Carlo simulation results showed that a loading dose combined with a maintenance dose would need to be administered daily to achieve the therapeutic blood magnesium concentrations. For the non-furosemide group, the optimal dosing regimen was a 5 g loading dose combined with a 10 g maintenance dose of MgSO4. For the furosemide group, the optimal dosing regimen was a 2.5 g loading dose combined with a 10 g maintenance dose of MgSO4. Conclusions The magnesium PPK model was successfully developed and evaluated in Chinese preeclampsia population, and the dose optimization of MgSO4 was completed through Monte Carlo simulation.

Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) has shown great potential as the electrode for aqueous ammonium ion batteries (AAIBs) owing to its good electrochemical reversibility and high theoretical capacity. However, the electrochemical performance of V2O5 is seriously limited by the weak NH4+ adsorption capability and insufficient active sites of vanadium oxide originated from the unsuitable 3d orbital electron state. Herein, the strategy of a 3d orbital electron tunning and crystal engineering is used to increase the ammonium ion storage capacity of V2O5 electrode. The experimental results show that the modified 3d orbital state of V4+ (t2g1) can effectively increase the active sites of V2O5. Therefore, the as-prepared N-VO exhibits a high specific capacity of 249.3 mA h g−1 at 1.0 A g−1 and 69.5 mA h g−1 at 10.0 A g−1, superior to other reported anode material for AAIBs. Noticeably, the prepared resultant quasi-solid-state ammonium ion battery can display considerable cycling stability with capacity retention of 87.9% after a long cycle life of 10 000 cycles at 1 A g−1 and impressive mechanical flexibility with no capacity decay after cycling at different bending angles.

Abstract Aims Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with a high prevalence worldwide. This study aimed to examine the correlation between serum bilirubin levels and SLE. Methods The Cochrane library, Embase, PubMed, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were examined and assessed until March 2023. RevMan 5.3 software was utilized for the analysis of clinical trails. Results Five case‐control studies were chosen and incorporated, examining the levels of serum bilirubin in patients with SLE compared to healthy individuals, as well as in active SLE patients versus inactive ones, in different sexes and in SLE patients with or without lupus nephritis (LN). Abstract Antimony (Sb) holds a high theoretic capacity and suitable redox potential as a promising anode for aqueous alkaline batteries (AABs). However, the uncontrollable nucleation for SbO2− and promiscuous water‐induced side reactions severely degrade the reversibility of Sb anode. Herein, the carbon‐anchored Sb nanoparticles are constructed to induce uniform Sb plating/stripping for high‐performance AABs. The experimental results reveal that the enhanced interaction between carbon and antimony as well as defective carbon can significantly improve the electrical conductivity and decrease the Sb nucleation overpotential. Accordingly, the as‐prepared Sb anode enables preferential plating of Sb rather than parasitic side reactions. As a result, the cycle life of A‐Sb/CF is sustained over 500 cycles at 10 mA cm−2/2 mAh cm−2. Even at the high capacity of 4 mAh cm−2, this anode can cycle stably for 225 cycles, which is significantly better than the Sb/CF counterpart. Furthermore, the assembled Ni3S2@Ni(OH)2//A‐Sb/CF full battery demonstrates a high capacity of 2.17 mAh cm−2 and a stable cycle life of over 500 cycles.

Abstract Manganese‐based oxides are promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) while suffering from poor reaction kinetics and structure collapse, resulting in inferior rate capability and cycling stability. Herein, an efficient crystal and surface engineering strategy is proposed to enhance the electron transfer ability of amorphous MnO2 and prevent its structure deformation during the Zn ion storage process. With the synergetic effect of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) coating and Co‐doping, the Zn//PEDOT@Co‐MnO2 (PCMO) batteries show a high capacity of 298.9 mAh g−1 at the current density of 1 A g−1, a superior rate capability of 50.2% capacity retention at 10 A g−1, and outstanding cycling stability of 92.3% capacity retention after 1000 continuous cycles, significantly surpassing Zn//MnO2 (MO) and Zn//Co‐MnO2 (CMO) batteries in all aspects. Moreover, the peak energy density based on the mass of PCMO can reach 375 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 1.25 kW kg−1, which is better than most recently reported aqueous energy storage devices, including AZIBs, supercapacitors, lead‐acid batteries, and nickel‐based alkaline batteries. This work provides valuable information for designing advanced high‐performance Mn‐based cathodes for AZIBs.

Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CaMK4) has been shown to be involved in autoimmunity but it is not clear how it functions in psoriasis. Here the authors show that CaMK4 is increased in psoriasis and promotes inflammatory responses in mouse models of psoriasis mediated through macrophages and keratinocytes.

Backround: Leprosy is very prevalent in many populations around the world, which is well known that both alleles for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) as well as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the HLA region are common in leprosy patients. Previous studies have identified leprosy-associated susceptibility genes that explain only part of disease risk and heritability. In view of the complicated characteristics of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region, this study aimed to explore the development and variation of HLA in leprosy and its possible mechanism.Methods: Previous genome-wide association data were extracted from Han and minority populations in southern China for HLA fine-mapping studies. Insertion and deletion (INDEL), SNP, and copy number variation (CNV) imputation were determined by using the Thousand People Database (1KGP Phase 3 Dataset) as a reference panel. The HAN-MHC database was used to input the HLA classical alleles and amino acids in the MHC region, and further step-regression analysis was performed to analyze independent variation signals associated with leprosy.Results: The most significant locus rs75324027 (the same locus as rs602875 in the HLA-DR region) [p = 7.49E-09, OR= 0.62, 95%,CI: 0.52–0.73] in the intergene region between HLA-DQA1 and HLA-DRB1 was related with leprosy in M-S(Han leprosy patients in south China)disease. In M-SM (Leprosy patients of ethnic minorities in south China)disease, one of the most significant loci of the HLA-DQB1 gene was 6-32626438-A-T (p = 4.49E-08, OR = 0.36, 95%,CI: 0.25–0.52). Therefore, rs75324027 is a locus in M-S disease, and 6-32626438-a-T may be a new locus in M-SM disease. The interaction between 6 and 32626438-A-T and RS75324027 was analyzed, and A significant interaction relationship was found. In the optimal model, the accuracy of prediction was 0.5974, cross-validation Consistency:10, p = 0.0107.Conclusion: In conclusion, this study is the first to assess the association between HLA and leprosy susceptibility in Han and other minority populations in southern China using the Thousand Population database and the Han MHC database. In addition, our analysis validated the previously reported locus rs602875 in the HLA-DR region and for the first time identified an unreported independent locus in leprosy among ethnic minorities in southern China.

Abstract Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) typically suffers from compromised anticancer efficacy owing to the low reactive oxygen species (ROS) yield and complicated tumor microenvironment (TME) which can consume ROS and support the occurrence and development of tumors. Herein, ultrathin‐FeOOH‐coated MnO2 nanospheres (denoted as MO@FHO) as sonosensitizers which can not only facilitate ultrasound (US)‐triggered ROS but also tune the TME by hypoxia alleviation, H2O2 consumption as well as glutathione (GSH) depletion are designed. The FeOOH coating will boost the production yield of singlet oxygen (1O2) and hydroxyl radicals (•OH) by inhibiting the recombination of US‐initiated electron–hole pairs and Fenton‐like reaction, respectively. Additionally, the catalase‐like and GSH peroxidase‐like activities of MO@FHO nanospheres enable them to break the TME equilibrium via hypoxia alleviation and GSH depletion. The combination of high ROS yield and fundamental destruction of TME equilibrium results in satisfactory antitumor outcomes, as demonstrated by the high tumor suppression efficacy of MO@FHO on MDA‐MB‐231‐tumor‐bearing mice. No obvious toxicity is detected to normal tissues at therapeutic doses in vivo. The capability to modulate the ROS production and TME simultaneously can afford new probability for the development of advanced sonosensitizers for synergistic comprehensive cancer therapy.

Abstract Background Magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) is the standard drug for eclampsia prophylaxis and treatment. In China, the effective therapeutic serum magnesium level is 1.8–3.0 mmol/L. There is little information on how to achieve and maintain effective therapeutic concentrations. This study aimed to investigate risk factors for sub-therapeutic serum concentrations of MgSO4 in patients with severe preeclampsia. Methods Patients with severe preeclampsia who received MgSO4 intravenous infusion were retrospectively reviewed. The maternal demographic characteristics, regimens for the administration of MgSO4, and lab test results of patients were collected. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were conducted for the risk factors influencing the serum magnesium concentration. Results A total of 93 patients with severe preeclampsia were included in the study. 52 (55.91%) patients did not attain therapeutic serum magnesium levels. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the impact of multifaceted clinical pharmacist-led antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) program on the rational use of antibiotics for patients who receive vascular and interventional radiology therapies.Methods: A quasi-experimental retrospective intervention design with a comparison group was applied to the practice of antibiotic use in the department of vascular and interventional radiology in a Chinese tertiary hospital. We used difference-in-differences (DID) analysis to compare outcomes before and after the AMS intervention between the intervention group and control group, to determine whether intervention would lead to changes in irrationality of antibiotic prescribing, antibiotic utilization, cost of antibiotics, and length of hospital stay.Results: The DID results showed that the intervention group was associated with a reduction in the average consumption of antibiotics (p = 0.017) and cost of antibiotics (p = 0.006) and cost per defined daily dose (DDD) (p = 0.000). There were no significant differences in the mean change of total costs and length of stay between the two groups (p > 0.05). The average inappropriate score of perioperative antimicrobial prophylaxis in the intervention group declined by 0.23, while it decreased by 0.02 in the control group [0.21 (95% CI, −0.271 to −0.143); p = 0.000]. The average inappropriate score of non-surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis in the intervention group declined by 0.14, while it increased by 0.02 in the control group [0.16 (95% CI, −0.288 to −0.035); p = 0.010]. The average inappropriate score of the therapeutic use of antibiotics in the intervention group declined by 0.07, while it decreased by 0.01 in the control group [0.06 (95% CI, −0.115 to −0.022); p = 0.003].Conclusions: This study provides evidence that implementation of AMS interventions was associated with a marked reduction of antibiotic use, cost of antibiotics, and irrationality of antibiotic prescribing in China.

Rechargeable aqueous zinc‐based batteries (AZBs) have been recently considered as desirable energy storage devices for renewable energy storage because of their high theoretical capacity, low cost, and high safety. Despite the inspiring achievements in this field, the energy density of AZBs is still far below expectation, which directly hinders their practical application as next‐generation secondary cells. To address this issue, previously, reseach efforts have been mainly dedicated to the improvement of capacity by designing different kinds of high‐capacity electrode candidates, especially the cathode materials. In recent years, elevation of the output voltage for energy density improvement has gained more and more attention. The main limitation of the relatively low output voltage of AZBs lies in the narrow electrochemically stable window of aqueous electrolytes, which results in limited choice of cathode materials with high potential. Herein, by summarizing recently reported work in this field, the strategies applied to high‐voltage AZB construction are classified into two categories, from the aspects of electrode and battery structure. Classic examples of each category are discussed in detail, and their respective advantages/defects are compared and commented on. Finally, further challenges are elaborated to provide more insights into this area.

In this work, different oak chips were used to age Vitis amurensis wine, and the effects on sensory properties were observed. Twenty-one different oak chips were added to a one-year-old wine made by a traditional technique. The wine was aged for 6 months before analysis by CIELab for color parameters, GC–MS for volatile compounds, and electronic tongue and a tasting panel for sensory properties. The results showed that the addition of any tested oak chip could significantly strengthen the wine’s red color. Among 61 volatile compounds, alcohols presented the highest concentrations (873 to 1401 mg/L), followed by esters (568 to 1039 mg/L) and organic acids (157 to 435 mg/L), while aldehydes and volatile phenols occurred at low concentrations. Different oak species with different toasting levels could affect, to varying degrees, the concentrations of esters, alcohols, and volatile phenols, but to a lesser extent those of aldehydes. Sensory analysis by a tasting panel indicated that non- and moderately roasted oak chips gave the wines higher scores than those with heavy toasting levels. The major mouthfeel descriptors determined by electronic tongue were in good agreement with those from the tasting panel.

To improve the robustness and discrimination power of the triangle-area representation, a novel shape matching method based on multi-scale angle representation is proposed in this study. By analysing the configurations of different sample points from each shape contour, shape descriptors are constructed by using space angles at different scale levels. With the proposed shape representation, the multi-scale information of shape contours is efficiently described, and the dynamic programming is further used to determine the correspondence between samples from different shapes and calculate the shape distance in the feature matching step. Moreover, to improve the shape retrieval results based on pairwise shape distances, the dynamic label propagation is introduced as the post-processing step. Unlike previous distance learning methods learning the database manifold implicitly, the authors method retrieves relative objects on the shortest paths from near to far explicitly, and the underlying structure can be effectively captured. The proposed method tested on different shape databases provides the performances superior to many other methods, and it can be applied to visual data processing and understanding of the internet of things.

Background/Aims: We examined the factors associated with blood pressure variability in a multi-ethnicity prospective study in China to gain more evidence to guide the prevention and management of hypertension through risk factor intervention. Methods: A total of 318 consecutive adult subjects aged 29-94 years with suspected or known hypertension were enrolled in this study. Blood pressure variability measurements were based on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. To measure short-term reading-to-reading blood pressure variability in this study, we used the standard deviation(SD) of the blood pressure to estimate the blood pressure variability. Results: The SDs of the blood pressure in this study ranged from 5.425 to 32.25, with a median of 10.81 (quartile range, 8.90–12.46). No significant difference regarding the level distribution of blood pressure variability was found across the various ethnicities. Objective To obtain a better understanding of the prevalence and management of pain in patients undergoing radiotherapy for cancer in Shandong Province, China. Methods This cross-sectional study used a questionnaire during face-to-face interviews to collect data from physicians and patients regarding the recognition, prevalence and treatment of pain during the waiting period before commencement of radiotherapy and during the radiotherapy period. Physicians and patients were recruited from 10 tertiary Class A hospitals across Shandong Province, China. Results A total of 184 patients and 87 physicians were recruited to the study. During the waiting period, pain was reported by the physicians according to their experience to affect 26.0% of patients, which almost agreed with the patients’ data (36.5%; 160 of 438). During the radiotherapy period, there was a significant difference in the reported prevalence of pain during the radiotherapy period between the physicians’ data (23.0%) based on their experience and the patients’ data (84.1%; 169 of 201 patients). The majority of physicians (98.9%; 86 of 87) agreed to the use opioids for pain management and 90.8% (79 of 87) were satisfied with the analgesic effect, but more than half of the patients who received pain treatment reported inadequate analgesia. Conclusion There was a high incidence of cancer pain, but insufficient assessment, inadequate treatment and inadequate education about pain in both the waiting and radiotherapy periods.

Abstract We report on a case of Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia (WM) treated with splenic re-irradiation. To the best of our knowledge this has not been reported before. A 69-year-old Asian female patient with WM received a three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, with 24 Gy in 12 treatment fractions in the first stage. She tolerated the treatment well, with a 37% reduction of the monoclonal immunoglobulin, an impalpable spleen, and improved hematological laboratory tests for 4 months. She was then treated with splenic re-irradiation up to 24 Gy for tumor progression. She showed no evidence of progression one year after re-irradiation, with a 55% reduction of the monoclonal immunoglobulin. Our experience demonstrates that splenic irradiation is an effective treatment to control the progression of WM.
