BackgroundWrist-worn activity trackers are popular, and an increasing number of these devices are equipped with heart rate (HR) measurement capabilities. However, the validity of HR data obtained from such trackers has not been thoroughly assessed outside the laboratory setting. ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the validity of HR measures of a high-cost consumer-based tracker (Polar A370) and a low-cost tracker (Tempo HR) in the laboratory and free-living settings. MethodsParticipants underwent a laboratory-based cycling protocol while wearing the two trackers and the chest-strapped Polar H10, which acted as criterion. Participants also wore the devices throughout the waking hours of the following day during which they were required to conduct at least one 10-min bout of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) to ensure variability in the HR signal. We extracted 10-second values from all devices and time-matched HR data from the trackers with those from the Polar H10. We calculated intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), mean absolute errors, and mean absolute percentage errors (MAPEs) between the criterion and the trackers. We constructed decile plots that compared HR data from Tempo HR and Polar A370 with criterion measures across intensity deciles. We investigated how many HR data points within the MVPA zone (≥64% of maximum HR) were detected by the trackers. ResultsOf the 57 people screened, 55 joined the study (mean age 30.5 [SD 9.8] years). Tempo HR showed moderate agreement and large errors (laboratory: ICC 0.51 and MAPE 13.00%; free-living: ICC 0.71 and MAPE 10.20%). Polar A370 showed moderate-to-strong agreement and small errors (laboratory: ICC 0.73 and MAPE 6.40%; free-living: ICC 0.83 and MAPE 7.10%). Decile plots indicated increasing differences between Tempo HR and the criterion as HRs increased. Such trend was less pronounced when considering the Polar A370 HR data. Tempo HR identified 62.13% (1872/3013) and 54.27% (5717/10,535) of all MVPA time points in the laboratory phase and free-living phase, respectively. Polar A370 detected 81.09% (2273/2803) and 83.55% (9323/11,158) of all MVPA time points in the laboratory phase and free-living phase, respectively. ConclusionsHR data from the examined wrist-worn trackers were reasonably accurate in both the settings, with the Polar A370 showing stronger agreement with the Polar H10 and smaller errors. Inaccuracies increased with increasing HRs; this was pronounced for Tempo HR.

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a highly prevalent condition in contemporary society. The conventional treatment of minoxidil tincture is hindered by issues such as skin irritation caused by ethanol, non-specific accumulation in hair follicles, and short retention due to its liquid form. Herein, we have developed a novel minoxidil-incorporated engineered exosomes biopotentiated hydrogel (Gel@MNs) that has the capability to modulate the perifollicular microenvironment for the treatment of AGA. Leveraging the exceptional skin penetration abilities of flexible liposomes and the targeting properties of exosomes, the encapsulated minoxidil can be effectively delivered to the hair follicles. In comparison to free minoxidil, Gel@MNs demonstrated accelerated hair regeneration in an AGA mouse model without causing significant skin irritation. This was evidenced by an increase in both the number and size of hair follicles within the dermal layer, enhanced capillary formation surrounding the follicles, and the regulation of the transition of hair follicle cells from the telogen phase to the anagen growth phase. Therefore, this safe and microenvironment-modifying hybrid exosome-embedded hydrogel shows promising potential for clinical treatment of AGA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Ethyl acetate and 95% ethanol extracts from T. chinensis rhizomes gave great inhibition on six plant pathogenic fungi • T. chinensis has potential to be a new natural fungicide resource • T. chinensis has potential to be used for the preservation of agricultural and forestry products such as fruits and vegetables The antifungal effectiveness of extracts of five medicinal plant species was determined. The inhibitory activity of extracts of Eucalyptus tereticornis, Xanthium sibiricum, Artemisia argyi, Tupistra chinensis and Pyrola calliantha were evaluated against the mycelial growth of the plant pathogenic fungi Aspergillus niger, Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium digitatum, P. expansum, P. italicum and Rhizopus stolonifer. All plant extracts were prepared at 60°C using solvents (either water, 50% ethanol (v/v), 95% ethanol (v/v), ethyl acetate or petroleum ether). Fungicidal effects of all plants tested were confirmed. Different extracts from the same plant species gave different degrees of inhibition. All aqueous extracts had weak or no activity on all fungi tested. Ethyl acetate and 95% ethanol extracts from T. chinensis rhizomes gave greater inhibition and a broader spectrum inhibition than the other extracts. T. chinensis may have potential as a new natural fungicide and may be used for the preservation of agricultural and forestry products such as fruits and vegetables.

Ultrafast laser pulses with complex spatiotemporal and polarization couplings have shown great application prospects in coherent control, particle acceleration, molecular dynamics excitation, and chiral or anisotropic detection. It is very important to observe the polarization‐coupled ultrafast laser pulses for characterizing the performance of laser source and understanding the laser‐matter interaction, but there is currently no detection technique that can completely characterize them, including the spatio‐, spectral‐, and polarimetric‐temporal information. In this work, a polarimetric‐spectral‐sensitive has been compressed ultrafast photography (PS‐CUP) to realize the real‐time intensity visualization of time‐varying polarized (TP) ultrafast laser pulses. PS‐CUP can not only distinguish the polarization state of a TP pulse, but also realize the spatio‐, spectral‐ and polarimetric‐temporal measurement. To demonstrate the ability of polarization resolving detection, PS‐CUP is used to successfully distinguish between the sinistral and dextral TP pulses and measure the angle and degree of linear polarization of a dextral TP pulse, respectively, and the experimental results are highly consistent with theoretical simulations. Owing to the unprecedented multidimensional detection ability, PS‐CUP is prospected to provide a powerful tool for the diagnosis of various complex ultrafast laser pulses and the detection of ultrafast chiral optics. Context Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) is the most common type of thyroid cancer. It has been shown that lymph node metastasis is associated with poor prognosis in patients with PTMC. Objective We aim to characterize the PTMC transcriptome landscape and identify the candidate transcripts that are associated with lateral neck lymph node metastasis of PTMC. Methods We performed full-length transcriptome sequencing in 64 PTMC samples. Standard bioinformatic pipelines were applied to characterize and annotate the full-length expression profiles of 2 PTMC subtypes. Functional open reading frame (ORF) annotation of the known and novel transcripts were predicted by HMMER, DeepLoc, and DeepTMHMM tools. Candidate transcripts associated with the pN1b subtype were identified after transcript quantification and differential gene expression analyses. Results We found that skipping exons accounted for the more than 27.82% of the alternative splicing events. At least 42.56% of the discovered transcripts were novel isoforms of annotated genes. A total of 39 193 ORFs in novel transcripts and 18 596 ORFs in known transcripts were identified. Distribution patterns of the characterized transcripts in functional domain, subcellular localization, and transmembrane structure were predicted. In total, 1033 and 1204 differentially expressed genes were identified in the pN0 and pN1b groups, respectively. Moreover, novel isoforms of FRMD3 , NOD1 , and SHROOM4 were highlighted for their association with pN1b subtype. Conclusion Our data provided the global transcriptome landscape of PTMC and also revealed the novel isoforms that associated with PTMC aggressiveness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This was a non‐blinded, single‐centre, randomized, controlled clinical trial that compared the effectiveness of direct observation of procedural skills (DOPSs)with traditional assessment methods in pressure injury (PI) care skills. The study population included 82 nursing professionals randomly assigned to the study group (n = 41) and the control group (n = 41). Both groups of nurses underwent a 6‐month training in PI care skills and were subsequently evaluated. The main outcome variables were the PI skill operation scores and theoretical scores. Secondary outcome variables included satisfaction and critical thinking abilities. Independent sample t‐tests and chi‐square tests were used to assess differences between the two groups of nurses. The results showed no statistically significant difference in PI skill operation scores between the two groups of nurses (p > 0.05). When comparing the PI theoretical scores, the study group scored higher than the control group, and this difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). In terms of satisfaction assessment, the study group and the control group showed differences in improving self‐directed learning, enhancing communication skills with patients, improving learning outcomes and increasing flexibility in clinical application (p < 0.05). When comparing critical thinking abilities between the two groups of nurses, there was no statistically significant difference at the beginning of the training, but after 3 months following the training, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.01).The results indicated that the DOPS was effective in improving PI theoretical scores, increasing nurse satisfaction with the training and enhancing critical thinking abilities among nurses. Mixed siliciclastic-carbonate systems are regulated interactively by factors such as siliciclastic sediment supply, carbonate production, sea-level change, tectonism, and climate conditions. These systems record vital information that aids in understanding ancient environments. This study used a merged 3D seismic volume, in conjunction with over 100 industrial wells, to systematically investigate the stratigraphic-sedimentary evolution of such a system within the Huizhou Sag of the Pearl River Mouth Basin, located on the northern continental shelf of the South China Sea. In total, six major sequence boundaries were identified for the Zhujiang Formation within the area, thus subdividing the interval into five typical third-order depositional sequences. Each of these sequences can be divided into a transgressive and a highstand systems tract. Lowstand or falling stage systems tracts were also recognized, the deposition of which was potentially in response to the uplifting process of the Dongsha Rise. During the deposition of the Zhujiang Formation, the Huizhou Sag may have undergone a sequential evolutionary history from delta-shore, to delta-shore-tidal-lagoon, to delta-shore-carbonate, and finally to delta-shore-shallow marine systems. This evolution responded to a varying degree of mixing processes, which was mainly regulated by siliciclastic sediment supply, confined paleomorphology, and local oceanic currents. Furthermore, the deposition of the Zhujiang Formation in the Huizhou Area was time-equivalent with the spreading process after the ridge jump of the South China Sea (23-16.5 Ma), providing valuable insights into sea-level fluctuations, provenance changes, and tectonic evolution. Our results may also shed light on the evaluation of lithologic traps and hydrocarbon sweet spots within mixed siliciclastic-carbonate systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
