Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate macular perfusion in a healthy pediatric population using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods: Fifty-three eyes of 30 healthy children (20 boys and 10 girls) were included in this prospective, cross-sectional study. Age, gender, foveal thickness (FT), superficial foveal avascular zone area (FAZs), deep foveal avascular zone area (FAZd), superficial capillary plexus flow area (SCP), deep capillary plexus flow area (DCP), choriocapillaris flow area (CC), vascular density in the SCP (VDs), vascular density in the DCP (VDd), and subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) were evaluated. Results: The mean age was 12.0±4.0 years (range: 6-15 years). Gender did not have a statistically significant influence on the FAZs or FAZd. However, there was a positive correlation between the CC and age (r=0.31; p=0.025). The FAZs and FAZd were negatively correlated with the FT (p<0.001). The VDd was positively correlated with the FT (p=0.03) and was negatively correlated with the FAZd (p=0.019). Conclusion: The present study determined normative data of OCTA parameters in healthy children and provides useful insight into the relationship between age, macular microvascular networks, and the FAZ. Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe clinical findings as well as spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), fundus fluorescein angiography (FA), and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) findings of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). Methods: This retrospective, observational case series included 144 eyes of 103 patients who were diagnosed with PCV between January 2014 and August 2016. Best corrected visual acuity, 90-diopter lens slit-lamp fundus biomicroscopy examination findings, color fundus photography, SD-OCT, FA, and ICGA findings were evaluated at the time of diagnosis. Results: Sixty-six patients (93 eyes, 64.1%) were male and 37 (51 eyes, 35.9%) were female. Sixty-two (60.2%) patients had unilateral involvement. The most common SD-OCT finding was retinal pigment epithelial detachment (PED). Red-orange subretinal lesions were seen in 20 eyes (13.9%). There was a single polyp in 21 (14.6%) eyes, and more than 1 polyp in 123 (85.4%) eyes observed with ICGA imaging. The polyps were located in the peripapillary area in 10 (6.9%) eyes, the macular area in 91 (63.2%) eyes, and the extramacular area in 1 (0.7%) eye. A significant branching vascular network was seen in the ICGA images of 112 (77.8%) eyes. Conclusion: In this study, the majority of patients were male, with unilateral macular polyps. A serous PED and an exudative pattern were the most common clinical manifestations. SD-OCT showed specific findings for PCV, but ICGA was the most useful test for diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traction forces in cases of epiretinal membrane (ERM) may antagonize the effects of anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (anti-VEGF) treatments and cause pharmacological resistance in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration. Presently described is a case with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in conjunction with ERM who demonstrated a partial response to intravitreal aflibercept injections. A pars plana vitrectomy with ERM peeling was performed. After surgery, optical coherence tomography showed an improvement in the macular morphology and complete resolution of subretinal fluid. His visual acuity remained stable. Vitrectomy may improve the anti-VEGF response in some patients with ERM who do not respond to anti-VEGF therapy for PCV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and to characterize peripheral retinal degenerations in myopic patients who received small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery. Material and Methods: This study was carried out at Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital. Patients who underwent SMILE for correction of myopia were included. A complete ophthalmologic examination including measurement of best corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, intraocular pressure measurement, dilated fundus examination before the surgery. Demographic variables, axial lenght (AL), and spherical equivalant (SE) were recorded. Results: We rewieved 560 patients who received SMILE. Of the 68 patients (12.1%) had peripheral retinal degeneration. Mean age was 2 7.3±6.1 years. Mean AL was 25.31±1.42 mm and mean spheric equivalent refractive error was -4.76 ± 3.06 (-3.50 to -15.50) diopters Eighteen eyes (26.4%) had lattice degeneration, 16 eyes (23.5%) retinal holes/tears, 13 eyes (19.1%) microcystoid degeneration, 7 eyes (10.3%) snail track degeneration, 7 eyes (10.3%) white without pressure, 5 eyes (7.3%) zonular traction tuft, and 2 eyes (2.9%) pavingstone degeneration. Prophylactic laser retinopexy was performed in 36 eyes (52.9%). During a mean follow-up period of 11.5±11. 7 months, no retinal detachment.occured in study eyes. Conclusion: Lattice degeneration was found to be the most common retinal peripheral degeneration in study eyes. Retinal detachment was not observed in patients with peripheral retinal degenerations who received SMILE surgery during the period studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The aim of the study was comparison of wet-type age-related macular degeneration in phakic and pseudophakic patients in terms of anatomical and functional success based on the real-life data of Türkiye., Methods: The multicenter retrospective real-life study data of the. retinal study group were used in this study. Among 867 eyes of 867 patients were included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups according to the status of the lens; phakic group and pseudophakic group. The follow-up period of the two groups, the number of injections at the 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd years, and changes in the central macular thickness (CMT, μ) and visual acuity (VA, logMAR) of the patients at the beginning, 6 th , 12 th , 24 th , and 36 th months were examined., Results: In our study, the number of injections in the 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd years, respectively, was 4.2±2.0, 1.8±1.9, and 1.0±1.7 in the phakic group, and 3.9±2.0, 1.7±1.9, and 0.8±1.4 in the pseudophakic group. When the two groups were compared in terms of the number of injections, there was a statistically significant difference in the 1st year, but there was no significant difference in the 2 nd and 3 rd years (p=0.001, p=0.350, and p=0.288, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of CMT in the baseline, 6 th , 12 th , 24 th , and 36 th months (p=0.991, p=0.327, p=0.652, p=0.599, and p=0.873, respectively). Although there was no difference in VA between groups at the beginning (p=0.052), the phakic group showed statistically better VA in controls at 3 rd , 6 th , 12 th , 24 th , and 36 th months (p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.000, p=0.000, and p=0.003, respectively)., Conclusion: Differences in the number of injections and visual results between phakic and pseudophakic patients in wet type AMD may necessitate the creation of different treatment and follow-up protocols., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest: None declared., (Copyright: © 2023 by Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital.)
