Active compounds found in Syzygium myrtifolium Walp. leaves such as flavonoids, phenolics, and betulinic acid are known to have pharmacological activities. This research aimed to find active compounds found in Syzygium myrtifolium Walp. leaves, which have anticancer activity by inhibiting the protein leukotriene A4 hydrolase. Molecular docking methods are used to predict the activity and affinity between ligand-proteins. The research was conducted in silico on the active compound in Syzygium myrtifolium Walp. leaves, which met the five criteria of Lipinski’s rule for leukotriene A4 hydrolase with PDB code 3U9W. The software used were YASARA, MarvinSketch, and PLANTS, which can optimize ligands and bind ligand molecules to receptors. Then it was visualized using Discovery Studio Visualizer and analyzed the prediction of pharmacokinetics and toxicity. Docking results show that the four active compounds from the leaves of Syzygium myrtifolium Walp., namely bis (2-ethylhexyl) hexanedioate, 3-octadecyne, 1- octadecene, and (2E,6E)-farnesol have a lower docking score compared to bestatin; therefore, these four compounds have the potential to inhibit leukotriene A4 hydrolase receptors and can be candidates for colorectal anticancer compounds.

Introduction: In this study, the antimicrobial activity of biologically synthesized zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) nanoparticles was investigated on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, pathogens, and resistant and common nosocomial infections. Material & Methods: Intially, zinc oxide and copper nanoparticles were synthesized using Xanthomonas campestris and Pseudomonas stutzeri bacteria, respectively. To investigate the effect of different concentrations of nanoparticles on bacteria using the macrodilution method, concentrations of 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 1.5% of Zn and Cu nanoparticles (culture medium + nanoparticles) were prepared and were added to the respective bacteria at a concentration of 105 cell/ml. Containers containing treated media (bacteria + nanoparticles) and control media were placed in a shaker incubator. Afterward, the optical density (OD) of treatment and positive control and negative control media were determined. (Ethic code: IR.ILAM.REC.1401.008) Findings: The results of statistical analysis showed that Zn and Cu nanoparticles, at a concentration of 0.5%, were able to remove almost all (100%) Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and were bacteriostatic at the concentration of 0.1%. Discussion & Conclusion: The results obtained from the determination of antibacterial properties of nanoparticles showed a direct relationship between the concentration of nanoparticles and the percentage of bacterial removal.

This photo essay details a patient with self-inflicted laser-induced retinal injury progressing to full-thickness macular holes in both eyes. A 40-year-old patient presented after a self-inflicted injury by a handheld class 3 blue laser (450 nm) he purchased on the internet. The patient reported shining the laser through a window, which reflected the beam back into his eyes. Visual acuity was measured at 20/400 in both eyes. The initial fundus photographs revealed vitreous and preretinal hemorrhages in the right eye, and multiple yellow-white fresh laser burns in the macula of the left eye. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed preretinal hemorrhage in the right eye and retinal disruption with preretinal hyper-reflective lesion in the left eye. After one month, his vision deteriorated to finger counting in each eye. He developed a full-thickness macular hole and hyperfluorescent curvilinear streaks in the superior maculae in both eyes. OCT images showed retinal pigment epithelium clumping and outer retinal atrophy in curvilinear streak areas in both eyes, which point to self-inflicted injury. This case illustrates laser-pointer-induced retinopathy and reinforces the necessity of public education on the dangers of utilizing handheld lasers without eye protection.

Bacillus siamensis LDR was tested for its potential as a biocontrol agent against the phytopathogenic fungi Curvularia lunata BM and Ganoderma sp. TB4. Fermentation of B. siamensis LDR for the production of antifungal compound was performed in modified Czapex-Dox broth using hanjeli (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) starch as carbon source. The Bacillus siamensis LDR inoculum was 105 CFU/ mL, and fermentation was conducted for up to 16 days. Antibiosis assay conducted to test the antifungal activity of filtrate medium. The results showed inhibition of C. lunata BM and Ganoderma sp. TB4 were 47.08% and 85.99%, respectively on 14th day of fermentation. Antifungal assay of the crude extract from filtrate medium revealed growth inhibition of C. lunata BM (60.70%) and Ganoderma sp. TB4 (65.25%). Thin layer chromatography of the crude extract revealed pink-colored spots indicative of lipopeptide compounds. Analysis of the crude extract by ultraperformance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was tentatively identified as iturin A, bacillomycin F, and surfactin.

Marine actinomycetes are being explored to discover potential actinomycetes that produce antifungal compounds. In a previous study, marine actinomycetes isolates from the mangrove ecosystem were found to inhibit growth of the phytopathogenic fungi Colletotrichum siamense KA. In this study, the three of these isolates with the highest antagonistic activity—SM11, SM14, and SM15—were evaluated for their antifungal activity using antibiosis assay. The fermentation was performed in SCB:PDB medium (1:1) for 6, 9, and 12 days. The results showed that SM14 was the strongest potential isolate; it inhibited the growth of C. siamense KA on average up to 64.90% for 12 days on PDA filtrate medium. Molecular identification showed SM14 was closely related to Streptomyces sanyensis, but had differences in morphological and biochemical characteristics compared to SM11 or SM15. This indicated that the three isolates were different strains and may challenge further research on identifying and analyzing their antifungal compounds.

Sea cucumbers are a group of marine invertebrates harvested throughout tropical and subtropical regions. In addition to their nutritional value, they have economic importance in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The most frequently consumed portion is the body wall, which also contains most of the active constituents known to have anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and other bioactive properties. This review covers the literature from the last decade (2011–2020) regarding the bioprospecting of sea cucumbers to discover resources for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.

This study aims to describe the molecular characteristics of DNA barcodes in chocolate hind grouper (Cephalopholis boenak) in Indonesian waters with new sequence records from Madura Island waters. Partial sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase 1 (CO1) gene were successfully obtained from two samples of C. boenak in Madura Island waters. In contrast, the other sequences were obtained from the BOLD system database, covering the Islands of Bali, Lombok, and Ambon waters. The overall molecular analysis involved 10 C. boenak sequences with a length of 625 bp. The results indicated that the population of C. boenak in Indonesia waters has high genetic diversity, as evidenced by the value of haplotype diversity (Hd) = 0.956 and nucleotide sequence diversity (Pi) = 0.01746, in which the population is distributed into eight haplotypes. Results of phylogenetic tree reconstruction of neighbor-joining and maximum-likelihood indicate similar topology. The branching of NJ and ML phylogenetic trees of C. boenak in Indonesia waters is grouped into two geographical clades. Clade 1 with the subpopulations of the waters from Madura, Bali, and Lombok Islands. Clade 2 with the subpopulations of the waters from Ambon Island. The results of the median-joining network reconstruction depicted a similar topology with both phylogenetic trees.

Energi listrik merupakan energi yang sangat dibutuhkan dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia. Pertambahan beban harus seiring dengan ketersediaan sumber energi listrik. Dalam sistem tenaga listrik transformator distribusi memilki peran penting dalam menurunkan tegangan menengah 20 kV menjadi 220/380 V. Keandalan sistem tenaga listrik harus memiliki persentase pembebanan tidak lebih dari 80%, persentase drop tegangan tidak lebih dari 10% dan ketidakseimbangan beban tidak lebih dari 20%. Telah terjadi penggantian transformator distribusi 50 kV di Lembang Bori’ Ranteletok dari 1 fasa menjadi 3 fasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa transformator terpasang memiliki pembebanan minggu pertama 45,97%, minggu kedua 46,99%, minggu ketiga 52,55% dan minggu keempat 46,37%. Sesuai syarat kehandalan sistem tenaga listrik beban penuh atau pembebanan transformator tidak melebihi 80%. Persentase drop tegangan didapatkan sesuai dengan syarat kehandalan sistem tenaga listrik yang tidak melebihi 10%. Persentase faktor ketidakseimbangan beban minggu pertama 11,76 %, minggu kedua 31,47 %, minggu ketiga 14,94 % dan minggu keempat 23,53 %. Minggu pertama dan ketiga sesuai syarat kehandalan sistem tenaga listrik, untuk minggu kedua dan keempat tidak sesuai syarat kehandalan sistem tenaga listrik karena persentase ketidakseimbangan beban lebih dari 20%.

Background: Given the increasing use of waterpipe tobacco smoking in the world and its unknown effects on bone healing, this study investigated the repairing of femoral bone fractures in rats exposed to waterpipe tobacco smoking (WTS).Main Methods: This study involved 40 male Wistar rats that were divided into two groups, including the femoral fracture (Fx) and the Fx + WTS groups. Each group was divided into two subgroups that were evaluated for bone healing 28 and 42 days after femoral fracture. After fixing the fractured femur, the healing process was evaluated by radiography, pathological indicators, and a measurement of the blood levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), parathyroid hormone (PTH), Ca ++, transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). Additionally, the density of VEGF and CD34 in fracture tissue was investigated by immunohistochemistry.Key Findings: Radiographic findings showed that factors related to the earlier stages of bone healing had higher scores in the Fx + WTS28 and 42 subgroups in comparison to the Fx groups. The density of VEGF and CD34 showed that the angiogenesis processes were different in the bone fracture area and callus tissue in the Fx +WTS subgroups. The serum levels of VEGF, TGF-β, and IGF-1 were significantly lower in the Fx +WTS42 group, and PTH in the Fx +WTS28 group was higher than that in the other groups.Significance: The findings showed the disturbance and delay in the femoral fracture union in rats exposed to hookah smoke. This is partly due to the reduction of molecular stimuli of bone synthesis and the attenuation of quantitative angiogenesis.

Probiotic and prebiotic or their combinations can potentially function as an alternative to antibiotics growth promoters (AGPs) for broiler. This study was designed to investigate the growth performance, intestinal microstructure, and nutrients digestibility of broilers administered with probiotics of Lactobacillus plantarum AKK30 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae B18 in combination with inulin. A total of 275 male chickens (initial bodyweight of 47±0.05 g) were reared for growth performance evaluation. At the 32-d-old, 25 male chickens were necropsied for intestinal microstructural analysis, while the other 25 male chickens were selected for evaluation of digestibility (body weight= 1525±0.08 g). Treatments of probiotics in combination with different levels of inulin consisted of control with probiotics without inulin (S0), probiotics with 0.5% of inulin (S1), probiotics with 1.0% of inulin (S2), probiotics with 1.5% of inulin (S3), and commercial probiotics without inulin (Sc), which were arranged in a completely randomized design with five replications. Background: In recent years, due to the remarkable advances in medical science and the long-term livelihood of patients, a new concept of death has become important. These advances have changed the concept of death for people, doctors and nurses. The suffering of patients, on the one hand, and the heavy cost of treatment imposed upon patients or families, on the other hand, raise the issue of euthanasia. The purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes of nurses and patients towards euthanasia. Methodology: This study was descriptive-analytic in the second half of 1394 and to compare and compare the attitude of nurses and patients in relation to the euthanasia. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Results: The mean score of nurses' attitudes toward euthanasia was 54.89. So that 146 nurses had attitude score less than 60. Therefore, most nurses had a negative attitude toward euthanasia and did not agree with it. Also, in the group of patients, the mean score of attitude is 56.49, so that 131 patients had an attitude score of less than 60, which indicates that the group is opposed to euthanasia. Conclusion: Comparison of scores in the patients' and nurses' groups suggests that the nurses' group is opposed to the category of euthanasia.

Lactobacillus plantarum AKK30 inoculum in de Maan Rogosa Sharpe Broth (MRSB) grown on media containing oligosaccharides (inulin or mannan oligosaccharides/MOS) was studied in vitro and in vivo. In vitro assay was conducted to characterize metabolite profiles and its effect on pathogenic bacteria, while in vivo assay was conducted to study the metabolic energy, nitrogen retention, and intestinal morphology of broilers. A total of 24 male broilers-40-day-old (average body weight= 1.725±0.05 kg) strains Cobb-500 were used, where 20 birds were added 1% inoculum L plantarum AKK30 of daily intake and randomly distributed in five treatments and four replications consisted of: A) MRSB + L. plantarum AKK-30 (10⁷ cfu g-1); B) MRSB + inulin 0.5% (w v-1); C) MRSB + MOS 0.5%(w v-1); D) L. plantarum AKK-30 (10⁷ cfu g-1) + MRSB + inulin 0.5% (w v-1).; and E) L. plantarum AKK-30 (10⁷ cfu g-1) + MRSB + MOS 0.5% (w v-1), while 4 birds were fasted as endogenous chicken. The results showed that the highest isoleucine and threonine were found in group E. The highest oleic acid and the lowest conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) were observed in all treatments and inoculum did not affect antibacterial activity. Abstract Urban community gardens have increased in prevalence as a means to generate fresh fruits and vegetables, including in areas lacking access to healthy food options. However, urban soils may have high levels of toxic heavy metals, including lead and cadmium and the metalloid arsenic, which can lead to severe health risks. In this study, fruit and vegetable samples grown at an urban community garden in southeastern San Diego, the Ocean View Growing Grounds, were sampled repeatedly over a four‐year time period in order to measure potential contamination of toxic heavy metals and metalloids and to develop solutions for this problem. Metal nutrient, heavy metal, and metalloid concentrations were monitored in the leaf and fruit tissues of fruit trees over the sampling period. Several of the fruit trees showed uptake of lead in the leaf samples, with Black Mission fig measuring 0.843–1.531 mg/kg dry weight and Mexican Lime measuring 1.103–1.522 mg/kg dry weight over the sampling period. Vegetables that were grown directly in the ground at this community garden and surrounding areas showed arsenic, 0.80 + 0.073 mg/kg dry weight for Swiss chard, and lead, 0.84 ± 0.404 mg/kg dry weight for strawberries, in their edible tissues. The subsequent introduction of raised beds with uncontaminated soil is described, which eliminated any detectable heavy metal or metalloid contamination in these crops during the monitoring period. Recommendations for facilitating the monitoring of edible tissues and for reducing risk are discussed, including introduction of raised beds and collaborations with local universities and research groups.

Mangrove ecosystems are vulnerable to pollution such as marine debris. The presence of marine debris can affect the waterbird community. The present study aims to determine and analyze the effect of marine debris on waterbirds in the Muara Angke Mangrove Area. The research was undertaken from October to November 2020 at three research areas: Angke-Kapuk Protection Forest, Angke-Kapuk Nature Tourism Park, and Muara Angke Arboretum. Observations of waterbirds were carried out using the point count method and observations of marine debris density were conducted with the shoreline survey method developed by NOAA. To find out the pattern of marine debris distribution and its effect on waterbirds, we implemented Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Spearman Correlation. In total, there were 13 species of waterbirds from 7 different orders in the three research areas. PCA analysis showed 6 variables in PC1 namely herbivorous duck, tactical surface, visual surface, habitat generalist, moderate specialist, and large. Further, PC2 produces 6 variables, namely pursuit diving, stalking, habitat generalist, aquatic generalist, and large. The results of the Spearman correlation indicated that three bird species were significantly negatively correlated with trash, those species are Anhinga melanogaster, Egretta garzetta, and Mycteria cinerea.

One of the varieties of Liberica coffee in Indonesia is the Liberoid Meranti coffee. Fermentation technology and the roasting temperature of Liberica coffee are needed in changing the composition of caffeine in coffee beans. The aim of this research was to see the caffeine content of the Liberica coffee beans cv. Liberoid Meranti fermented by hydrolytic bacteria on levels at a light, medium, and dark roasting temperatures. Coffee fermentation was carried out using the wet processing method and a roasting temperature of 150oC, 175oC, 200oC, and caffeine analysis was carried out by UV-Visible spectrophotometry. During feeding, P. varicosa extended externally the pharyngeal bulb onto the sponge causing visible somatic damage. The behaviors of contracting the body and retracting the rhinopores inside the rhinotube were also observed while feeding. Observations on the feeding of Phyllidia varicosa on the sponge Axinyssa cf. aculeata and the presence of a visible somatic damage on the prey due to predation are reported for the first time.

A cascade-pond system consists of six ponds located at Universitas Indonesia Campus, Depok. Its catchment area is dominated by high density urban area with moderate to high imperviousness. Some of riparian buffers surrounds six ponds are also occupied by high imperviousness that may lead some ecohydrological problems i.e. water quality degradation, declining freshwater biodiversity and food web changes. The aim of this study is assessing the current state of cascade-pond system health. The assessment of macroinvertebrate indices is based on SingScore that have been developed by Public Utilities Board of Singapore for macroinvertebrate biotic index. Impervious cover data is obtained from high-resolution imageries and processed using ArcGIS 10.5. Qualitative statistics methods, Chi-squared test describes the relationship of macroinvertebrate indices with catchment area imperviousness and aquatic buffer zone. The health assessment based on macroinvertebrates indices shows that the lower ponds are relatively healthier than the upper one. There is also any significant relationship between macroinvertebrate indices with impervious cover based on chi square test and cross tabulation analysis.

This study assessed the purse seine, handline and pole and line catches at PPS (Samudera Fishing Port Kendari) specifically targeting skipjack and yellowfin tuna in the Banda Sea. Although there has been a rise in tuna output over the past two years, the examination of fish size in September until November revealed substantial fluctuation. Additionally, the implementation of the moratorium policy had a detrimental effect. Ensuring the sustainability of fisheries in the Banda Sea, particularly for large pelagic fish like skipjack and yellowfin tuna, necessitates the implementation of adaptive management and selective fishing practices, with a particular focus on enforcing mesh size regulations. The aims of this study were to examine the patterns of tuna fisheries landing at PPS, specifically focusing on the sorts of catches made using purse seine, handline, and pole and line fishing methods. Additionally, the study aimed to assess the length frequency distribution of Thunnus albacares caught using purse seine, handline, and pole and line fishing gear. The methodology offers a thorough framework for evaluating the sustainability of Thunnus albacares fisheries in PPS Kendari. Policymakers can develop effective management plans for long-term resource sustainability by assessing catch composition, productivity, and size distribution across various fishing gears. In this research, the effect of addition of different percentages of graphene oxide to the polyamide base resin and the effect of different printing directions on the mechanical properties of 3D printed samples were investigated. At first, 0.3% and 0.7% of graphene oxide nanoparticles were mixed with resin via strring and ultrasonic bath. Pure and composite polymer samples with different percentages of graphene oxide were printed by stereolithography (digital light processing) in three directions. The mechanical properties of the samples were evaluated using tensile, impact and hardness tests. scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to check the fracture surfaces of the samples. The results of the mechanical properties tests indicate a decrease in strength with the addition of graphene oxide nanoparticles. With increasing the graphene oxide nanoparticles, the strength of the parts decreased by 30%. On the other hand, there was a 12% difference in tensile strength in pure polymer samples, which reached 17% with the addition of nanoparticles. Microscopic investigations showed the formation of clusters of graphene oxide nanoparticles in the composite samples, which led to stress concentration and cracking. The printing direction has a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the printed samples. Among the pure polymer samples although samples printed in the flat direction and among the composite samples, the nanocomposites printed in the vertical direction showed the best mechanical properties. Adding graphene oxide nanoparticles to the resin and increasing the percentage of nanoparticles in the direction of printing on the edge led to a decrease in hardness compared to the pure polymer sample. Sea cucumber biodiversity along Indonesian coasts is plentiful. However, misidentification of sea cucumbers is a common practice in trading, due to the external morphological similarity of sea cucumbers of the same genus. In 2018 and 2019, sea cucumbers were collected from Lampung and Gorontalo waters in Indonesia, known locally as blimbing, kelapa, bintik, cera merah, lolosong/pisang, olo-olo and cera duri. This article describes, for the first time, the external morphology of Actinopyga echinites, A. miliaris, Bohadschia ocellata, Holothuria edulis, H. fuscocinerea, and Pearsonothuria graeffei from Gorontalo, and that of B. marmorata and H. fuscocinerea from Lampung. Correctly identifying sea cucumbers is important in understanding their natural abundance but also for tracking sales of individuals and monitoring biodiversity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
