Objectives The association between screen time and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been controversial. This study sheds light on the contentious correlation between screen time and ADHD. Content Until August 2022, electronic searches of the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were carried out. The combined effect value odds ratios (OR) and 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI) were calculated for the meta-analysis using Stata 12.0. There were 81,234 children in the nine studies that made up this meta-analysis which included 28,997 children with ADHD and 52,237 healthy controls. When compared with the screen time Summary and outlook Based on the current meta-analysis results, our study found a positive correlation between screen time and the risk of ADHD. Excessive screen exposure may significantly contribute to the development of ADHD in children. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce screen time per day in children to prevent the occurrence of ADHD.

Popular methods for modeling data both labelled and unlabeled, multiple regression and PCA has been used in research for a vast number of datasets. In this investigation, we attempt to push the limits of these two methods by running a fit on world development data, a set notorious for its complexity and high dimensionality. We assess the robustness and numerical stability of both methods using their matrix condition number and ability to capture variance in the dataset. Few studies have measured GHG emissions from smallholder agricultural systems in tropical peatlands, or non-CO2 emissions from human-influenced tropical peatlands more generally. The aim of this study was to quantify CH4 and N2O fluxes from agricultural landscapes on tropical peatlands in SE Asia and assess their environmental controls. The study was carried out in four peatland areas in Malaysia and Indonesia. At each site CH4 and N2O fluxes and environmental parameters was measured in four land use types, short rotation agricultural crops, oil palm plantation, tree plantation, and adjacent secondary/degraded forest. annual CH4 emissions were 1.8 ± 1.2, 2.1 ± 0.8, 2.3 ± 0.4, 6.1 ± 1.2 and 105.6 ± 18.1 kg CH4 ha-1 year-1 at the degraded forest, tree plantation, oil palm, cropland and intact forest land use classes, respectively, while annual N2O emissions were 0.6 ± 0.3, 3.3 ± 0.9, 12.5 ± 3.0, 18.0 ± 7.3 and 32.7 ± 5.8 kg N2O ha-1 year-1 at the intact forest, tree plantation, degraded forest, oil palm and cropland land use classes, respectively. CH4 emissions were strongly determined by WTD following an exponential relationship with production of CH4 starting when annual WTD was above –25 cm. By contrast, N2O emissions were strongly correlated with TDN, following a log-normal relationship. The optimum TDN concentration for N2O production was 10 mg N L-1 and beyond this threshold, the availability of mineral N was no longer limiting the N2O production, with other environmental variables such as WTD, soil water content, and temperature becoming more important. The new emission factors for CH4 and N2O presented here should be included in country level GHG inventories to improve their accuracy. The strong impact of substrate supply on N2O emissions shows that fertilisation practices strongly impact net emissions suggesting that policies that result in reduced fertilisation rates can directly cut emissions.

High recurrence and metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) after operation is a leading cause of breast cancer related death. The pre-metastatic niche (PMN) is an environment in a secondary organ conducive to the metastasis of a primary tumor. Herein, we identify exosomes from autologous breast cancer cells that show effective lung targeting ability. Based on this, we developed the biomimetic nanoparticles (cationic bovine serum albumin (CBSA) conjugated siS100A4 and exosome membrane coated nanoparticles, CBSA/siS100A4@Exosome) to improve drug delivery to the lung PMN. CBSA/siS100A4@Exosome self-assembled nanoparticles formed homogeneous sizes of ~200 nm, protected siRNA from degradation, and showed excellent biocompatibility. Further in vivo studies showed that CBSA/siS100A4@Exosome had a higher affinity toward lung in comparison to the CBSA/siS100A4@Liposome, and exhibited outstanding gene-silencing effects that significantly inhibited the growth of malignant breast cancer cells. Taken together, these results indicate that CBSA/siS100A4@Exosome self-assembled nanoparticles are a promising strategy to suppress postoperative breast cancer metastasis.

Objectives Microbiota dysbiosis in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been widely reported. The gut microbiota connect diet to the metabolism by producing small molecules via diverse metabolic pathways. In this study we aimed to investigate the dietary preferences of IBD patients, and to explore the interactions among gut microbiota composition, dietary components, and metabolites in relation to IBD. Methods Dietary preferences of IBD patients (including those with ulcerative colitis [UC] and Crohn's disease [CD]) and health controls were investigated, and their gut microbiota were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metagenomic analyses of fecal and biopsy samples. The metabolite profiles of the samples were then analyzed using gas and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses. Results The daily intake of folic acid, niacin, vitamins C and D, calcium, and selenium differed significantly between patients with IBD and healthy controls. A decrease in long-chain (such as arachidic, and oleic acid) and medium-chain fatty acids (sebacic acid and isocaproic acid) as well as bile acid was observed in patients with IBD. Compared with healthy controls, 22 microbial species (including Sulfolobus acidocaldarius, and Clostridium clostridioforme CAG132) in the UC group and 37 microbial species (such as Bacteroides fragilis and Fusobacterium nucleatum) in the CD group were found to be correlated to diet and metabolites. Bacteroides fragilis was enriched in patients with IBD and associated with multi-nutrients, and 21 metabolites including 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 and taurolithocholic acid. Conclusions This study provides an interaction network to identify key micronutrients, microbiota components and metabolites that contribute to IBD.

Metagenomic analyses indicate that streptococcus gallolyticus is enriched at carcinoma in colitis associated colorectal cancer compared with sporadic colorectal cancer. But the particular mechanism of streptococcus gallolyticus in Inflammatory Bowel Disease malignant progression remains undefined yet. We aim to explore the biological carcinogenesis efficacy of streptococcus gallolyticus and its potential mechanism in azoxymethane and dextran sodium sulphate-induced colitis associated colorectal cancer in mice. Oral pretreatment of streptococcus gallolyticus was adopted to evaluate its detrimental effect. The colorectums of experimental C57BL/6 mice were collected and examined for the degree of tumorigenesis. Comparative 16S rRNA sequencing was carried out to observe streptococcus gallolyticus alterations in abundance. We found that streptococcus gallolyticus are enriched in colonic carcinoma compared to adenoma and healthy mice. Pretreatment of Streptococcus gallolyticus aggravated tumor formation, with more colonic obstruction, larger number and diameter of tumor node. Furthermore, Streptococcus gallolyticus selectively recruits tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells but not mast cells, including marrow-derived suppressor cells, tumor-associated macrophages and dendritic cells, which can inhibit competence of T cells. Moreover, several myeloid-cell-derived proinflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-1β, IL-8, CCL2, COX-2, TNF-α) were increased with the formation of carcinoma in IBD. Collectively, these data suggest that, through recruitment of tumor-infiltrating immune cells, Streptococcus gallolyticus generate an immune suppressive microenvironment that is conducive for neoplasia progression of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) using small interfering RNA (siVEGF) has shown great potential in inhibiting the growth, proliferation, and migration of tumors by reducing the proliferation of blood vessels. On the basis of bionic principles, a novel pH-responsive and virus mimetic shell-sheddable chitosan (CS) micelles (CMs) as siRNA delivery system was introduced in this study. The cyclo(Arg-Gly-Asp-d-Phe-Lys) (cRGD) modified poly(enthylene glycol) (PEG) was conjugated to the HA2 modified chitosan via a hydrazone linkage (cRGD-PEG-Hz-CS-HA2). The cRGD-PEG-Hz-CS-HA2 conjugate could form micelles by interacting with the complex of octanal, Boc-l-lysine, and 9-d-arginine (9R) (octyl-Lys-9R) as a hydrophodic core forming agent, termed as cRGD-PEG-Hz-CS-HA2/octyl-Lys-9R (abbreviated as cRGD/HA2/Hz-CMs).The CMs modified with cRGD can accurately target glioma cells (U87MG cells) with high expression of αvβ3. The payloads of siVEGF were packed into the core of cRGD/HA2/Hz-CMs via electrostatic interaction and hydrophobic interaction. The intracellular cargo release was achieved by the pH-responsive lysis of the hydrazone bond in acidic environment of endosome. Moreover, the exposed HA2, as a pH-sensitive membrane-disruptive peptide, assists the escape of the carriers from endosome into cytosol. In addition, cRGD/HA2/Hz-CMs can effectively deliver siVEGF and silence VEGF gene expression in U87MG cells, leading to the significant tumor growth inhibition. This study demonstrates that cRGD/HA2/Hz-CMs can deliver and release siVEGF in a controlled manner, which was traced by the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) system in order to achieve RNAi-based anti-angiogenic treatment of cancer in vivo.

Urbanization is increasingly compromising lakes in the rapidly developing countries of tropical Southeast Asia. Greater understanding of the ecology of tropical lakes is essential in order to determine the best ways to protect and manage them. A comparison was made of the species richness, abundance and diets of Chironomidae in two forest lakes (both created by damming rivers - one in an urban forest reserve, one adjacent to an urban area) and two urban park lakes (ex- tin mine lakes) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 19 species of chironomids were recorded (10 collector-gatherers, one collector-filterer, one shredder, 3 predators and 4 predators/grazers). The most abundant species were Polypedilum leei, Tanytarsus formosanus, Zavreliella marmorata and Procladius sp.. Conductivity was highest in the urban park lakes due to pollution. Temperature was also highest in the urban park lakes due to lower riparian canopy cover and lower macrophyte abundance. Larval abundance (mostly collector-gathering Chironominae) was significantly higher in the forest lakes compared to the urban park lakes, which could be related to cleaner water and higher vegetation cover which provided more food resources (leaf litter and periphyton) and more microhabitats. Predatory tanypods were most abundant in forest lakes which also had the highest numbers of their prey (Chironominae). Four predatory species of Tanypodinae supplemented their diet with blue-green algae in two of the urban lakes. Only one collector-filterer (Corynoneura sp.) was recorded (only in the forest lakes).

In this study, we prepared gold nanostar (GNS) composite nanoparticles containing siRNA of cyclooxygenase-2(siCOX-2) that were modified by tumor targeting ligand 2-deoxyglucose (DG) and transmembrane peptide 9-poly-D-arginine (9R) to form siCOX-2(9R/DG-GNS). Paclitaxel loaded temperature sensitive liposomes (PTX-TSL) were surface-modified to produce PTX-TSL-siCOX-2(9R/DG-GNS) displaying homogeneous star-shaped structures of suitable size (293.93 nm &plusmn, 3.21) and zeta potentials (2.47 mV &plusmn, 0.22). PTX-TSL-siCOX-2(9R/DG-GNS) had a high thermal conversion efficiency under 808 nm laser radiation and a superior transfection efficiency, which may be related to the targeting effects of DG and increased heat induced membrane permeability. COX-2 expression in HepG2/PTX cells was significantly suppressed by PTX-TSL-siCOX-2(9R/DG-GNS) in high temperatures. The co-delivery system inhibited drug-resistant cell growth rates by &ge, 77% and increased the cell apoptosis rate about 47% at elevated temperatures. PTX-TSL and siCOX-2 loaded gold nanostar particles, therefore, show promise for overcoming tumor resistance.
