Abstract Background The diagnosis of tuberculous pleurisy (TP) presents a significant challenge due to the low bacterial load in pleural effusion (PE) samples. Cell-free Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA (cf-TB) in PE samples is considered an optimal biomarker for diagnosing TP. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of cf-TB testing across diverse research sites with a relatively large sample size. Methods Patients suspected of TP and presenting with clinical symptoms and radiological evidence of PE were consecutively enrolled by treating physicians from 11 research sites across 6 provinces in China between April 2020 and August 2022. Following centrifugation, sediments obtained from PE were used for Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) and mycobacterial culture, while the supernatants were subjected to cf-TB testing. This study employed a composite reference standard to definite TP, which was characterized by any positive result for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) through either PE culture, PE Xpert, or pleural biopsy. Results A total of 1412 participants underwent screening, and 1344 (95.2%) were subsequently enrolled in this study. Data from 1241 (92.3%) participants were included, comprising 284 with definite TP, 677 with clinically diagnosed TP, and 280 without TP. Abstract Background In the repair of massive tissue defects using expanded large skin flaps, the incidence of complications increases with the size of the expanded area. Currently, stem cell therapy has limitations to solve this problem. We hypothesized that conditioned medium of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSC-CM) collected following mechanical pretreatment can assist skin expansion. Methods Rat aortic endothelial cells and fibroblasts were cultured with ADSC-CM collected under 0%, 10%, 12%, and 15% stretching force. Ten-milliliter cylindrical soft tissue expanders were subcutaneously implanted into the backs of 36 Sprague-Dawley rats. The 0% and 10% stretch groups were injected with ADSC-CM collected under 0% and 10% stretching force, respectively, while the control group was not injected. After 3, 7, 14, and 30 days of expansion, expanded skin tissue was harvested for staining and qPCR analyses. Results Endothelial cells had the best lumen formation and highest migration rate, and fibroblasts secreted the most collagen upon culture with ADSC-CM collected under 10% stretching force. The skin expansion rate was significantly increased in the 10% stretch group. After 7 days of expansion, the number of blood vessels in the expanded area, expression of the angiogenesis-associated proteins vascular endothelial growth factor, basic fibroblast growth factor, and hepatocyte growth factor, and collagen deposition were significantly increased in the 10% stretch group. Conclusions The optimal mechanical force upregulates specific paracrine proteins in ADSCs to increase angiogenesis and collagen secretion, and thereby promote skin regeneration and expansion. This study provides a new auxiliary method to expand large skin flaps.

Abstract Introduction Current physical activity guidelines recommend 150 min of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) for health benefits, regardless of the pattern of MVPA. However, MVPA that occurs in sessions (MVPA-S) may have different health implications compared to MVPA that is not accumulated in sessions (MVPA-nonS). This study aimed to investigate the associations of MVPA-S and MVPA-nonS with mortality. Methods We conducted a cohort study of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003–2006 (n = 5,658) with accelerometer-measured physical activity at baseline and mortality followed through December 31, 2019. A session was defined as a time window of 30 min or longer where the average intensity was at or above 2020 counts/minute. Abstract Conventional macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B-ketolide (MLSBK) antibiotics are unable to counter the growing challenge of antibiotic resistance that is conferred by the constitutive methylation of rRNA base A2058 or its G2058 mutation, while the presence of unmodified A2058 is crucial for high selectivity of traditional MLSBK in targeting pathogens over human cells. The absence of effective modes of action reinforces the prevailing belief that constitutively antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus remains impervious to existing macrolides including telithromycin. Here, we report the design and synthesis of a novel series of macrolides, featuring the strategic fusion of ketolide and quinolone moieties. Our effort led to the discovery of two potent compounds, MCX-219 and MCX-190, demonstrating enhanced antibacterial efficacy against a broad spectrum of formidable pathogens, including A2058-methylated Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and notably, the clinical Mycoplasma pneumoniae isolates harboring A2058G mutations which are implicated in the recent pneumonia outbreak in China. Mechanistic studies reveal that the modified quinolone moiety of MCX-190 establishes a distinctive secondary binding site within the nascent peptide exit tunnel. Structure-activity relationship analysis underscores the importance of this secondary binding, maintained by a sandwich-like π–π stacking interaction and a water–magnesium bridge, for effective engagement with A2058-methylated ribosomes rather than topoisomerases targeted by quinolone antibiotics. Our findings not only highlight MCX-219 and MCX-190 as promising candidates for next-generation MLSBK antibiotics to combat antibiotic resistance, but also pave the way for the future rational design of the class of MLSBK antibiotics, offering a strategic framework to overcome the challenges posed by escalating antibiotic resistance.

Abstract Background Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a challenging lung arterial disorder with remarkably high incidence and mortality rates, and the efficiency of current HPH treatment strategies is unsatisfactory. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) in the pulmonary artery plays a crucial role in HPH. Previous studies have shown that lncRNA-H19 (H19) is involved in many cardiovascular diseases by regulating cell proliferation and differentiation but the role of H19 in EndMT in HPH has not been defined. Methods In this research, the expression of H19 was investigated in PAH human patients and rat models. Then, we established a hypoxia-induced HPH rat model to evaluate H19 function in HPH by Echocardiography and hemodynamic measurements. Moreover, luciferase reporter gene detection, and western blotting were used to explore the mechanism of H19. Results Here, we first found that the expression of H19 was significantly increased in the endodermis of pulmonary arteries and that H19 deficiency obviously ameliorated pulmonary vascular remodelling and right heart failure in HPH rats, and these effects were associated with inhibition of EndMT. Moreover, an analysis of luciferase activity indicated that microRNA-let-7 g (let-7 g) was a direct target of H19. H19 deficiency or let-7 g overexpression can markedly downregulate the expression of TGFβR1, a novel target gene of let-7 g. Furthermore, inhibition of TGFβR1 induced similar effects to H19 deficiency. Conclusions In summary, our findings demonstrate that the H19/let-7 g/TGFβR1 axis is crucial in the pathogenesis of HPH by stimulating EndMT. Our study may provide new ideas for further research on HPH therapy in the near future.

Abstract Mycotoxins, which are secondary metabolites produced by toxicogenic fungi, are natural food toxins that cause acute and chronic adverse reactions in humans and animals. The genus Fusarium is one of three major genera of mycotoxin‐producing fungi. Trichothecenes, fumonisins, and zearalenone are the major Fusarium mycotoxins that occur worldwide. Fusarium mycotoxins have the potential to infiltrate the human food chain via contamination during crop production and food processing, eventually threatening human health. The occurrence and development of Fusarium mycotoxin contamination will change with climate change, especially with variations in temperature, precipitation, and carbon dioxide concentration. To address these challenges, researchers have built a series of effective models to forecast the occurrence of Fusarium mycotoxins and provide guidance for crop production. Fusarium mycotoxins frequently exist in food products at extremely low levels, thus necessitating the development of highly sensitive and reliable detection techniques. Numerous successful detection methods have been developed to meet the requirements of various situations, and an increasing number of methods are moving toward high‐throughput features. Although Fusarium mycotoxins cannot be completely eliminated, numerous agronomic, chemical, physical, and biological methods can lower Fusarium mycotoxin contamination to safe levels during the preharvest and postharvest stages. These theoretical innovations and technological advances have the potential to facilitate the development of comprehensive strategies for effectively managing Fusarium mycotoxin contamination in the future.

Precise prediction of the remaining useful life (RUL) of rolling bearings is crucial for ensuring the smooth functioning of machinery and minimizing maintenance costs. The time-domain features can reflect the degenerative state of the bearings and reduce the impact of random noise present in the original signal, which is often used for life prediction. However, obtaining ideal training data for RUL prediction is challenging. Thus, this paper presents a bearing RUL prediction method based on unsupervised learning sample augmentation, establishes a VAE-GAN model, and expands the time-domain features that are calculated based on the original vibration signals. By combining the advantages of VAE and GAN in data generation, the generated data can better represent the degradation state of the bearings. The original data and generated data are mixed to realize data augmentation. At the same time, the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm is introduced to measure the similarity of the dataset, establishing the mapping relationship between the training set and target sequence, thereby enhancing the prediction accuracy of supervised learning. Experiments employing the XJTU-SY rolling element bearing accelerated life test dataset, IMS dataset, and pantograph data indicate that the proposed method yields high accuracy in bearing RUL prediction.

During checking continuous waveform record, it was found that some stations of Tianjin such as EWZ were significantly affected by one unknown noise, and EWZ station was the most seriously affected. Long term observations had also found that this noise cannot be observed for uncertainly several days each year. This noise was all year round and did not change with day and night time, and it had been existed for many years. This noise was different from typical environmental background noise and had some fixed characteristics. This article studied the noise from several aspects such as its own characteristic, its coverage of influence, spectral characteristics, and impact on earthquake records. The research has shown that the noise was not affected by natural factors such as weather and season, and had a characteristic of amplitude decreasing as the distance increasing from EWZ station. The main frequency of this noise ranged 1～2 Hz. The impact of noise was relatively wide and it can be recorded by 12 surrounding stations, with YGZ station being the farthest and approximately 58 km away from EWZ station. Through polarization analysis, it was found that the propagation of noise had a specific directionality, so it is preliminary judged that this noise had the characteristic of fixed source noise. This noise will have an impact on seismic records, reducing the seismic phase pickup rate, and even completely submerging it in the noise. Frequency filtering can improve it.

Abstract. Aging is accompanied by significant inhibition of hematopoietic and immune system function and disruption of bone marrow structure. Aging-related alterations in the inflammatory response, immunity, and stem cell niches are at the root of hematopoietic aging. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying hematopoietic and bone marrow aging can aid the clinical treatment of aging-related diseases. In particular, it is unknown how the niche reprograms hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in an age-dependent manner to maintain normal hematopoiesis in elderly individuals. Recently, specific inhibitors and blood exchange methods have been shown to reshape the hematopoietic niche and reverse hematopoietic aging. Here, we present the latest scientific discoveries related to hematopoietic aging and hematopoietic system rejuvenation, discuss the relationships between hematopoietic niche aging and HSC aging, and describe related studies on stem cell-mediated regulation of hematopoietic aging, aiming to provide new ideas for further study.

Abstract The stalk of Allium fistulosum contains dietary fibers with complicated monosaccharide composition and glycosidic bond linkages, which renders it a better dietary fiber supplement. However, the unfavorable odor, majorly contributed by allicin, limits its applications. Although many physical and chemical methods have been developed to remove allicin, there is currently no comparison between their efficiencies. Here, we comprehensively compare all these methods of eliminating allicin in the Allium stalk by starting with optimization of the allicin extraction method. Results indicate that incubation of the chopped Allium stalk with water for 20 min and extraction with 75% ethanol reached a maximal extraction yield. Different methods of allicin elimination are examined, and physical removal of allicin by blanching at 100 °C reaches a maximal clearance rate of 73.3%, rendering it the most efficient and effective method eliminating allicin from the stalk of Allium fistulosum for the preparation of a totally green dietary fiber.

Due to matching biomechanical properties and significant biological activity, Mg-based implants present great potential in orthopedic applications. In recent years, the biocompatibility and therapeutic effect of magnesium-based implants have been widely investigated in trauma repair. In contrast, the R&D work of Mg-based implants in spinal fusion is still limited. This review firstly introduced the general background for Mg-based implants. Secondly, the mechanical properties and degradation behaviors of Mg and its traditional and novel alloys were reviewed. Then, different surface modification techniques of Mg-based implants were described. Thirdly, this review comprehensively summarized the biological pathways of Mg degradation to promote bone formation in neuro-musculoskeletal circuit, angiogenesis with H-type vessel formation, osteogenesis with osteoblasts activation and chondrocyte ossification as an integrated system. Fourthly, this review followed the translation process of Mg-based implants via updating the preclinical studies in fracture fixation, sports trauma repair and reconstruction, and bone distraction for large bone defect. Furthermore, the pilot clinical studies were involved to demonstrate the reliable clinical safety and satisfactory bioactive effects of Mg-based implants in bone formation. Finally, this review introduced the background of spine fusion surgeryand the challenges of biological matching cage development. At last, this review prospected the translation potential of a hybrid Mg-PEEK spine fusion cage design.

Abstract Background To explore the relationship between occupational stress, burnout and depressive symptoms among railroad workers in Fuzhou, and to analyze the interaction of burnout and occupational stress on depressive symptoms. Methods In this study, 861 railway employees of Fuzhou railway bureau were randomly selected from January to April, 2022. Occupational stress inventory revised edition (OSI-R), China job burnout inventory (CMBI) and Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) were used to investigate the occupational stress, job burnout and depressive symptoms of railway workers. Interactions associated with depressive symptoms were assessed by linear hierarchical regression analysis and SPSS macros (PROCESS). Results Occupational stress, job burnout and depressive symptoms accounted for 50.58%, 93.47%, and 11.19% of the study population, respectively. Abstract Background The magnitude of the risk of death and cardiac arrest associated with emergency surgery and anesthesia is not well understood. Our aim was to assess whether the risk of perioperative and anesthesia-related death and cardiac arrest has decreased over the years, and whether the rates of decrease are consistent between developed and developing countries. Methods A systematic review was performed using electronic databases to identify studies in which patients underwent emergency surgery with rates of perioperative mortality, 30-day postoperative mortality, or perioperative cardiac arrest. Meta-regression and proportional meta-analysis with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were performed to evaluate global data on the above three indicators over time and according to country Human Development Index (HDI), and to compare these results according to country HDI status (low vs. high HDI) and time period (pre-2000s vs. post-2000s). Results 35 studies met the inclusion criteria, representing more than 3.09 million anesthetic administrations to patients undergoing anesthesia for emergency surgery. Meta-regression showed a significant association between the risk of perioperative mortality and time (slope: -0.0421, 95%CI: from − 0.0685 to -0.0157; P = 0.0018). Abstract Only a minority of cancer patients benefit from immune checkpoint blockade therapy. Sophisticated cross-talk among different immune checkpoint pathways as well as interaction pattern of immune checkpoint molecules carried on circulating small extracellular vesicles (sEV) might contribute to the low response rate. Here we demonstrate that PD-1 and CD80 carried on immunocyte-derived sEVs (I-sEV) induce an adaptive redistribution of PD-L1 in tumour cells. The resulting decreased cell membrane PD-L1 expression and increased sEV PD-L1 secretion into the circulation contribute to systemic immunosuppression. PD-1/CD80+ I-sEVs also induce downregulation of adhesion- and antigen presentation-related molecules on tumour cells and impaired immune cell infiltration, thereby converting tumours to an immunologically cold phenotype. Moreover, synchronous analysis of multiple checkpoint molecules, including PD-1, CD80 and PD-L1, on circulating sEVs distinguishes clinical responders from those patients who poorly respond to anti-PD-1 treatment. Altogether, our study shows that sEVs carry multiple inhibitory immune checkpoints proteins, which form a potentially targetable adaptive loop to suppress antitumour immunity.

Abstract Background The public health measures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic may have indirectly impacted other health outcomes, such as falls among older adults. The purpose of this study was to examine trends in fall-related hospitalizations and emergency department visits among older adults before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario, Canada. Methods We obtained fall-related hospitalizations (N = 301,945) and emergency department visit (N = 1,150,829) data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information databases from 2015 to 2022 for adults ages 65 and older in Ontario. Fall-related injuries were obtained using International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition, Canada codes. An interrupted time series analysis was used to model the change in weekly fall-related hospitalizations and emergency department visits before (January 6, 2015-March 16, 2020) and during (March 17, 2020-December 26, 2022) the pandemic. Results After adjusting for seasonality and population changes, an 8% decrease in fall-related hospitalizations [Relative Rate (RR) = 0.92, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.85, 1.00] and a 23% decrease in fall-related emergency department visits (RR = 0.77, 95%CI: 0.59, 1.00) were observed immediately following the onset of the pandemic, followed by increasing trends during the pandemic for both outcomes. Conclusions Following an abrupt decrease in hospitalizations and emergency department visits immediately following the onset of the pandemic, fall-related hospitalizations and emergency department visits have been increasing steadily and are approaching pre-pandemic levels. Further research exploring the factors contributing to these trends may inform future policies for public health emergencies that balance limiting the spread of disease among this population while supporting the physical, psychological, and social needs of this vulnerable group.

Abstract Background Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) represent the most advantageous choice for soft tissue regeneration. Studies proved the recruitment of ASCs post tissue injury was mediated by chemokine CXCL12, but the mechanism by which CXCL12 is generated after tissue injury remains unclear. Migrasomes are newly discovered membrane-bound organelles that could deliver CXCL12 spatially and temporally in vivo. In this study, we sought to investigate whether migrasomes participate ASC-mediated tissue regeneration. Methods Discrepant and asymmetrical soft tissue regeneration mice model were established, in which HE staining, immunofluorescent staining, western blot and qPCR were conducted to confirm the role of CXCL12 and migrasomes in ASC-mediated tissue regeneration. Characterization of ASC-derived migrasomes were carried out by confocal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy as well as western blot analysis. The function and mechanism of migrasomes were further testified by assisting tissue regeneration with isolated migrasomes in vivo and by in vitro transwell combined with co-culture system. Results Here, we show for the first time that migrasomes participate in soft tissue regeneration. ASCs generate migrasomes enriched with CXCL12 to mediate tissue regeneration. Migrasomes from ASCs could promote stem cells migration by activating CXCR4/RhoA signaling in vivo and in vitro. Chemoattracted ASCs facilitate regeneration, as demonstrated by the upregulation of an adipogenesis-associated protein. This positive feed-back-loop creates a favorable microenvironment for soft tissue regeneration. Thus, migrasomes represent a new therapeutic target for ASC-mediated tissue regeneration. Conclusions Our findings reveal a previously unknown function of ASCs in mediating tissue regeneration by generating migrasomes. The ASC-derived migrasomes can restore tissue regeneration by recruiting stem cells, which highlighting the potential application of ASC-derived migrasomes in regenerative medicine.

Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is a malignant disease that occurs worldwide and poses serious health burden. Objectives: To assess the prevalence of BC burden in the Western Pacific region (WPR) from 1990 to 2019, and to predict trends from 2020 to 2044. To analyze the driving factors and put forward the region-oriented improvement. Methods: Based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019, BC cases, deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) cases, age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized death rate (ASDR), and age-standardized DALYs rate in WPR from 1990 to 2019 was obtained and analysed. Age-period-cohort (APC) model was used to analyze age, period, and cohort effects in BC, and Bayesian APC (BAPC) was used to predict trends over the next 25 years. Results: In conclusion, BC incidence and deaths in the WPR have increased rapidly over the past 30 years and are expected to continue to increase between 2020 and 2044. Among behavioral and metabolic factors, high body-mass index was the main risk factor for BC mortality in middle-income countries, whereas alcohol use was the main risk factor in Japan. Age is a key factor in the development of BC, with 40 years being the critical point. Incidence trends coincide with the course of economic development. Conclusions: The BC burden remains an essential public health issue in the WPR and will increase substantially in the future. More efforts should be made in middle-income countries to prompt the health behavior and minimize the burden of BC because these nations accounts for the majority of BC burden in the WPR.

This study aimed to explore the efficacy of a multimodal analgesic regimen during the perioperative period for male patients undergoing knee replacement surgery. A total of 80 male patients scheduled for elective knee replacement surgery in our hospital’s orthopedic department from March 2022 to March 2023 were selected through digital randomization. They were equally divided into a control group (received a conventional analgesic protocol) and an observation group (treated with a multimodal analgesic protocol that included patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), ultrasound-guided nerve block and physical analgesia). Parameters such as postoperative celecoxib capsule dosage, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores at 6, 12, 24 and 72 hours after surgery, levels of neurotransmitters and stress markers at the time of surgery, 24 hours post-surgery, and 72 hours post-surgery, sleep quality scores, the timing of first ambulation, and the overall incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the groups. After intervention, the observation group showed a statistically significant reduction in the dosage of celecoxib capsules compared to the control group (p < 0.05). VAS scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group at all measured time points. Furthermore, levels of substance P (SP), beta-endorphin (β-EP), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), cortisol (Cor), C-reactive protein (CRP) and white blood cell (WBC) counts in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 24- and 72-hours post-surgery. The incidence of adverse reactions was also significantly lower in the observation group (p < 0.05). We conclude that implementing a multimodal analgesic protocol in the perioperative period could significantly reduce pain, regulate neurotransmitter and stress levels, and enhance sleep quality in the early postoperative phase of male patients undergoing knee replacement surgery.

Acoustic metamaterials (AMs) composed of periodic artificial structures have extraordinary sound wave manipulation capabilities compared with traditional acoustic materials, and they have attracted widespread research attention. The sound insulation performance of thin-walled structures commonly used in engineering applications with restricted space, for example, vehicles’ body structures, and the latest studies on the sound insulation of thin-walled metamaterial structures, are comprehensively discussed in this paper. First, the definition and math law of sound insulation are introduced, alongside the primary methods of sound insulation testing of specimens. Secondly, the main sound insulation acoustic metamaterial structures are summarized and classified, including membrane-type, plate-type, and smart-material-type sound insulation metamaterials, boundaries, and temperature effects, as well as the sound insulation research on composite structures combined with metamaterial structures. Finally, the research status, challenges, and trends of sound insulation metamaterial structures are summarized. It was found that combining the advantages of metamaterial and various composite panel structures with optimization methods considering lightweight and proper wide frequency band single evaluator has the potential to improve the sound insulation performance of composite metamaterials in the full frequency range. Relative review results provide a comprehensive reference for the sound insulation metamaterial design and application.

In this paper, we investigated Caputo fractional integro-differential equations with non-instantaneous impulses and nonlocal conditions. By employing the solution operator, the Mönch fixed point theorem, and the stepwise estimation method, we eliminated the Lipschitz condition of the nonlinear term, while also dispensing with the requirement for the compressibility coefficient condition $ 0 < k < 1 $. The main results presented represented a generalization and enhancement of previous findings. Furthermore, an example was provided to verify the application of our main results.

Abstract The pig-nosed turtle (Carettochelys insculpta) represents the only extant species within the Carettochelyidae family, is a unique Trionychia member fully adapted to aquatic life and currently facing endangerment. To enhance our understanding of this species and contribute to its conservation efforts, we employed high-fidelity (HiFi) and Hi-C sequencing technology to generate its genome assembly at the chromosome level. The assembly result spans 2.18 Gb, with a contig N50 of 126 Mb, encompassing 34 chromosomes that account for 99.6% of the genome. The assembly has a BUSCO score above 95% with different databases and strong collinearity with Yangtze giant softshell turtles (Rafetus swinhoei), indicating its completeness and continuity. A total of 19,175 genes and 46.86% repetitive sequences were annotated. The availability of this chromosome-scale genome represents a valuable resource for the pig-nosed turtle, providing insights into its aquatic adaptation and serving as a foundation for future turtle research.

Abstract Background Eriophyoid mites (Eriophyoidea) are among the largest groups in the Acariformes; they are strictly phytophagous. The higher-level phylogeny of eriophyoid mites, however, remains unresolved due to the limited number of available morphological characters—some of them are homoplastic. Nevertheless, the eriophyoid mites sequenced to date showed highly variable mitochondrial (mt) gene orders, which could potentially be useful for resolving the higher-level phylogenetic relationships. Results Here, we sequenced and compared the complete mt genomes of 153 eriophyoid mite species, which showed 54 patterns of rearranged mt gene orders relative to that of the hypothetical ancestor of arthropods. The shared derived mt gene clusters support the monophyly of eriophyoid mites (Eriophyoidea) as a whole and the monophylies of six clades within Eriophyoidea. These monophyletic groups and their relationships were largely supported in the phylogenetic trees inferred from mt genome sequences as well. Our molecular dating results showed that Eriophyoidea originated in the Triassic and diversified in the Cretaceous, coinciding with the diversification of angiosperms. Conclusions This study reveals multiple molecular synapomorphies (i.e. shared derived mt gene clusters) at different levels (i.e. family, subfamily or tribe level) from the complete mt genomes of 153 eriophyoid mite species. We demonstrated the use of derived mt gene clusters in unveiling the higher-level phylogeny of eriophyoid mites, and underlines the origin of these mites and their co-diversification with angiosperms.

Abstract Since 2006, the rapid development of China’s aviation industry has been accompanied by a significant increase in one of its emissions, namely, PM2.5, which poses a substantial threat to human health. However, little data is describing the PM2.5 concentration caused by aircraft activities. This study addresses this gap by initially computing the monthly PM2.5 emissions of the landing-take-off (LTO) stage from Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2023 for 175 Chinese airports, employing the modified BFFM2-FOA-FPM method. Subsequently, the study uses the Gaussian diffusion model to measure the 24-hour average PM2.5 concentration resulting from flight activities at each airport. This study mainly draws the following conclusions: Between 2006 and 2023, the highest recorded PM2.5 concentration data at all airports was observed in 2018, reaching 5.7985 micrograms per cubic meter, while the lowest point was recorded in 2022, at 2.0574 micrograms per cubic meter. Moreover, airports with higher emissions are predominantly located in densely populated and economically vibrant regions such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Shenzhen.

Abstract Background Several studies have proposed grading systems for risk stratification of early‐stage lung adenocarcinoma based on histological patterns. However, the reproducibility of these systems is poor in clinical practice, indicating the need to develop a new grading system which is easy to apply and has high accuracy in prognostic stratification of patients. Methods Patients with stage I invasive nonmucinous lung adenocarcinoma were retrospectively collected from pathology archives between 2009 and 2016. The patients were divided into a training and validation set at a 6:4 ratio. Histological features associated with patient outcomes (overall survival [OS] and progression‐free survival [PFS]) identified in the training set were used to construct a new grading system. The newly proposed system was validated using the validation set. Survival differences between subgroups were assessed using the log‐rank test. The prognostic performance of the novel grading system was compared with two previously proposed systems using the concordance index. Results A total of 539 patients were included in this study. Using a multioutcome decision tree model, four pathological factors, including the presence of tumor spread through air space (STAS) and the percentage of lepidic, micropapillary and solid subtype components, were selected for the proposed grading system. Patients were accordingly classified into three groups: low, medium, and high risk. The high‐risk group showed a 5‐year OS of 52.4% compared to 89.9% and 97.5% in the medium and low‐risk groups, respectively. The 5‐year PFS of patients in the high‐risk group was 38.1% compared to 61.7% and 90.9% in the medium and low‐risk groups, respectively. Similar results were observed in the subgroup analysis. Additionally, our proposed grading system provided superior prognostic stratification compared to the other two systems with a higher concordance index. Conclusion The newly proposed grading system based on four pathological factors (presence of STAS, and percentage of lepidic, micropapillary, and solid subtypes) exhibits high accuracy and good reproducibility in the prognostic stratification of stage I lung adenocarcinoma patients.

Miiuy croaker, Miichthys miiuy is an ecologically important teleost species which is widely distributed in southeast coast of China. In this study, we present a chromosomal-scale genome assembly of the miiuy croaker which is an important Sciaenidae fish and economical species. We adopted Oxford Nanopore and Hi-C sequencing techniques to achieve an assembly with high accuracy and completeness. The investigation of genome characteristic and functional features may provide insights into the study of phylogenetic diversity of miiuy croaker. This study can also be beneficial to improve molecular assisted breeding techniques. Moreover, it can be a great resource to better conduct further study of other sciaenids.

Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is one of the most popular feature learning technologies in the field of machine learning and pattern recognition. It has been widely used and studied in the multi-view clustering tasks because of its effectiveness. This study proposes a general semi-supervised multi-view nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm. This algorithm incorporates discriminative and geometric information on data to learn a better-fused representation, and adopts a feature normalizing strategy to align the different views. Two specific implementations of this algorithm are developed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework: Graph regularization based Discriminatively Constrained Multi-View Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (GDCMVNMF) and Extended Multi-View Constrained Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (ExMVCNMF). The intrinsic connection between these two specific implementations is discussed, and the optimization based on multiply update rules is presented. Experiments on six datasets show that the effectiveness of GDCMVNMF and ExMVCNMF outperforms several representative unsupervised and semi-supervised multi-view NMF approaches.

Abstract A four‐degree‐of‐freedom upper limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot system with a gravity compensation device is constructed. The objective is to address the rehabilitation training needs of patients with upper limb motor dysfunction. A BP neural network adaptive control method based on particle swarm optimization is proposed. First, the degrees of freedom of the human body are analyzed, and a Lagrange method is employed to construct a dynamic model. Second, a particle swarm optimization back propagation neural network adaptive control algorithm based on particle swarm optimization is presented. Subsequently, the range of motion of the upper limbs is analyzed with reference to muscle anatomy and a three‐dimensional motion capture system. And the robot structure design is analyzed in detail. Finally, simulation experiments were conducted, and the results demonstrated that the proposed method exhibited high effectiveness and accuracy.

Bacterial wilt (BW) is a devastating plant disease caused by the soil-borne bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum species complex (Rssc). Numerous efforts have been exerted to control BW, but effective, economical, and environmentally friendly approaches are still not available. Bacteriophages are a promising resource for the control of bacterial diseases, including BW. So, in this study, a crop BW pathogen of lytic bacteriophage was isolated and named PQ43W. Biological characterization revealed PQ43W had a short latent period of 15 min, 74 PFU/cell of brust sizes, and good stability at a wide range temperatures and pH but a weak resistance against UV radiation. Sequencing revealed phage PQ43W contained a circular double-stranded DNA genome of 47,156 bp with 65 predicted open reading frames (ORFs) and genome annotation showed good environmental security for the PQ43W that no tRNA, antibiotic resistance, or virulence genes contained. Taxonomic classification showed PQ43W belongs to a novel genus of subfamily Kantovirinae under Caudoviricetes. Subsequently, a dose of PQ43W for phage therapy in controlling crop BW was determined: 108 PFU*20 mL per plant with non-invasive irrigation root application twice by pot experiment. Finally, a field experiment of PQ43W showed a significantly better control effect in crop BW than the conventional bactericide Zhongshengmycin. Therefore, bacteriophage PQ43W is an effective bio-control resource for controlling BW diseases, especially for crop cultivation.

To enhance the high-temperature adaptability of copper-based composite materials and C–C/SiC discs, this article innovatively introduces a method of replacing graphite with sepiolite, resulting in the successful fabrication of samples with exceptional mechanical and friction properties. The results reveal that moderate incorporation (less 6%) of sepiolite provides a particle reinforcement effect, resulting in an improvement of mechanical properties. Interestingly, the addition of sepiolite causes a change in the traditional saddle-shaped friction curve due to high temperature lubrication. Meanwhile, the primary advantage of sepiolite lies in its superior abrasion resistance, evident in the increased friction coefficient and altered wear mechanisms with higher sepiolite content. The wear resistance is optimal at 200 ​Km/h (400 ​°C). Particularly, the unique composition of the friction layer (outermost layer: a composite film consisting of B2O3, sepiolite, graphite, and metal oxide films; intermediate layer: metal oxide films) plays a pivotal role in improving friction stability. Finally, there are significant optimizations in the GA algorithm, especially GA-GB model has the best prediction effect on the maximum friction temperature.

Summary: The rapid growth of global aviation emissions has significantly impacted the environment, leading to an urgent need to use carbon reduction methods. This paper analyzes global aviation’s carbon dioxide (CO2), N2O, and CH4 emission changes under different hydrogen energy application paths. The global warming potential over a 100-year period (GWP100) method is used to convert the emissions of N2O and CH4 into CO2-equivalent. Here, we report the results: if the global aviation industry begins using hydrogen turbine engines by 2040, it could reduce cumulative CO2-equivalent emissions by 2.217E+10 tons by 2080, which is 2.12% higher than starting hydrogen fuel cell engines in 2045. However, adopting hydrogen fuel cell engines 10 years earlier shows greater reduction capabilities than hydrogen turbine engines, achieving an accumulated reduction of 3.006E+10 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions. Therefore, the timing of adoption notably affects hydrogen fuel cell engines more than hydrogen turbine engines. Delaying adoption makes hydrogen fuel cell engines’ performance lag hydrogen turbine engines. Science for society: Hydrogen is considered one of the key measures to achieve net-zero emissions from aviation. This study discusses the role of hydrogen turbines and fuel cells in reducing emissions in the aviation industry. It is found that the application time of hydrogen energy is crucial to the emission reduction effect. Before hydrogen energy is fully realized, it will be possible for sustainable aviation fuel to be a promising choice for the aviation industry as a transitional energy source.

While small labs produce much of the fundamental experimental research in Material Science and Engineering (MSE), little is known about their data management and sharing practices and the extent to which they promote trust in, and transparency of, the published research. In this research, we conduct a case study of a leading MSE research lab to characterize the limits of current data management and sharing practices concerning reproducibility and attribution. We systematically reconstruct the workflows, underpinning four research projects by combining interviews, document review, and digital forensics. We then apply information graph analysis and computer-assisted retrospective auditing to identify where critical research information is unavailable or at risk. We find that while data management and sharing practices in this leading lab protect against computer and disk failure, they are insufficient to ensure reproducibility or correct attribution of work — especially when a group member withdraws before project completion. We conclude with recommendations for adjustments to MSE data management and sharing practices to promote trustworthiness and transparency by adding lightweight automated file-level auditing and automated data transfer processes.

Panax japonicus is an important medicinal plant, and flavonoids are one of its main secondary metabolites. In this study, the main roots, fibrous roots, stems, leaves and flowers of P. japonicus were analyzed using transcriptomics and widely targeted metabolomics. Through correlation analysis of transcription and metabolism, the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway in P. japonicus was analyzed, and the accumulation of flavonoid metabolites and the expression of related genes were investigated. Metabolomics revealed a total of 209 flavonoid metabolites in P. japonicus, among which flavonoids, flavonols, flavanones and flavanonols significantly accumulated in the flowers and leaves. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that key genes in the flavonoid pathway exhibited increased expression in the flowers and leaves. The expression patterns of key genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis, including PjC4H, Pj4CL, PjCHS, PjCHI, PjF3H, PjF3’H, PjCYP, and PjPAL, are consistent with their upstream and downstream metabolites, demonstrating a significant positive correlation among them. In addition, the PjUGT gene is highly expressed in five tissues of P. japonicus, indicating that PjUGT is one of the key factors for the diversity of flavonoid glycosides. The WGCNA results showed that WRKY transcription factors exist widely in the candidate modules, and it was possible that PjWRKY transcription factors are involved in regulating the expression of key genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis and the biosynthesis of flavonoid metabolites. This study reveals spatial differences in the accumulation patterns of flavonoid metabolites in different tissues and provides important clues for further understanding the regulatory mechanisms of flavonoid metabolism in P. japonicus, thus contributing to the optimization of germplasm resources of P. japonicus and the promotion of genetic diversity analysis.

Abstract In the process of tension wire construction of transmission lines, the key state quantities such as tension, inclination and spatial position of the traction walking plate directly affect the construction safety. At present, the construction personnel use visual observation to obtain the state quantity of traction walking plate in the process of tension wire construction. This monitoring method is not only inefficient, and there are personal subjective factors of judgment errors. For this reason, this paper develops a kind of intelligent traction walking plate for tension wire construction, based on the principle of resistance strain type and gyroscope to obtain the tension and inclination of the traction walking plate, respectively, using two front cameras and two rear cameras to obtain the spatial position of the traction walking plate, and finally completing the real‐time transmission of the monitoring data through the Lora technology. The developed intelligent traction walking plate was applied in Shandong Heze Yongfeng 220 kV transmission line project on 11 October 2020, which improved the construction efficiency by 15.71% while ensuring the construction safety.

During tumor development, the tumor itself must continuously generate new blood vessels to meet their growth needs while also allowing for tumor invasion and metastasis. One of the most common features of tumors is hypoxia, which drives the process of tumor angiogenesis by regulating the tumor microenvironment, thus adversely affecting the prognosis of patients. In addition, to overcome unsuitable environments for growth, such as hypoxia, nutrient deficiency, hyperacidity, and immunosuppression, the tumor microenvironment (TME) coordinates angiogenesis in several ways to restore the supply of oxygen and nutrients and to remove metabolic wastes. A growing body of research suggests that tumor angiogenesis and hypoxia interact through a complex interplay of crosstalk, which is inextricably linked to the TME. Here, we review the TME's positive contribution to angiogenesis from an angiogenesis-centric perspective while considering the objective impact of hypoxic phenotypes and the status and limitations of current angiogenic therapies.

Summary: The aviation industry’s emissions have had a significant impact on global climate change. This study focuses on carbon emission trading schemes, sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), and hydrogen energy, as vital means for the aviation industry to reduce emissions. To evaluate the climate effects of global routes under four scenarios (24 sub-scenarios) until 2100, this study proposes the Aviation-FAIR (Aviation-Finite Amplitude Impulse Response) method. The findings reveal that while CO2 emissions and concentrations are significant, other emissions, such as N2O and CH4, have a greater effective radiative forcing (ERF) and contribute significantly to climate change. Moreover, SAFs are more effective in mitigating airline pollutant emissions than relying solely on carbon trading schemes. The effectiveness of hydrogen fuel cells may be hindered by technical limitations compared to hydrogen turbine engines. The findings of this study provide reference for the global aviation industry to adopt emission reduction measures.

Background: Kirsten rat sarcoma virus (KRAS) has evolved from a genotype with predictive value to a therapeutic target recently. The study aimed to establish non-invasive radiomics models based on MRI to discriminate KRAS from epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) or anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutations in lung cancer patients with brain metastases (BM), then further explore the optimal sequence for prediction. Methods: This retrospective study involved 317 patients (218 patients in training cohort and 99 patients in testing cohort) who had confirmed of KRAS, EGFR or ALK mutations. Radiomics features were separately extracted from T2WI, T2 fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (T2-FLAIR), diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging (T1-CE) sequences. The maximal information coefficient and recursive feature elimination method were used to select informative features. Then we built four radiomics models for differentiating KRAS from EGFR or ALK using random forest classifier. ROC curves were used to validate the capability of the models. Results: The four radiomics models for discriminating KRAS from EGFR all worked well, especially DWI and T2WI models (AUCs: 0.942, 0.942 in training cohort, 0.949, 0.954 in testing cohort). When KRAS compared to ALK, DWI and T2-FLAIR models showed excellent performance in two cohorts (AUCs: 0.947, 0.917 in training cohort, 0.850, 0.824 in testing cohort). Conclusions: Radiomics classifiers integrating MRI have potential to discriminate KRAS from EGFR or ALK, which are helpful to guide treatment and facilitate the discovery of new approaches capable of achieving this long-sought goal of cure in lung cancer patients with KRAS.

ObjectiveAiming at the uncertainty of model perturbation and external interference in unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), an improved model-free adaptive control (MFAC) method suitable for the heading control of USVs is proposed. MethodsBased on the existence of non-self-balancing characteristics in the heading control subsystems of USVs, this study directly discusses the control problem of the heading control subsystems of USVs under uncertain influences using the compact form dynamic linearization-based MFAC (CFDL-MFAC). The historical input items are introduced into the standard control criteria, and a variable output CFDL-MFAC (VCFDL-MFAC) is proposed to weaken the integral effect existing in the heading control subsystems of USVs. Finally, the simulation of USV heading control using the proposed method is carried out and a field-test with regard to validity for operation on board a Dophin IB small USV is conducted.ResultsThe results show that compared to the standard CFDL-MFAC method and PID method, the heading control of the VCFDL-MFAC method is more stable.ConclusionsThis study can provide a USV heading control algorithm with good adaptability and robustness that is insensitive to environmental disturbances and model perturbations.

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by the formation of Lewy body in dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) is a major component of Lewy body. Autophagy eliminates damaged organelles and abnormal aggregated proteins. Thioredoxin-1 (Trx-1) is a redox regulating protein and plays roles in protecting dopaminergic neurons against neurotoxicity induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). However, the relationship between Trx-1 and α-syn in PD is still unknown. In the present study, the movement disorder and dopaminergic neurotoxicity in MPTP-treated mice were improved by Trx-1 overexpression and were aggravated by Trx-1 knockdown in the SNpc in mice. The expression of α-syn was increased in the SNpc of MPTP-treated mice, which was inhibited by Trx-1 overexpression and was exacerbated in Trx-1 knockdown mice. Autophagosomes was increased under electron microscope after MPTP treatment, which were recovered in Trx-1 overexpressing mice and were further increased in Trx-1 knockdown in the SNpc in mice. The expressions of phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN)-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1), Parkin, LC3 II and p62 were increased by MPTP, which were blocked in Trx-1 overexpressing mice and were further increased in Trx-1 knockdown mice. Cathepsin D was decreased by MPTP, which was restored in Trx-1 overexpressing mice and was further decreased in Trx-1 knockdown mice. The mRFP-GFP-LC3 green fluorescent dots were increased by 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) and further increased in Trx-1 siRNA transfected PC12 cells, while mRFP-GFP-LC3 red fluorescent dots were increased in Trx-1 overexpressing cells. These results indicate that Trx-1 may eliminate α-syn in PD mice through potentiating autophagy-lysosome pathway.

Abstract The role of m6A modification in the regulation of the immune microenvironment (IME) of ischemic stroke (IS) is barely known. Thus, we aim to investigate the impact of m6A modification on the IME of IS and its diagnostic value in IS. We comprehensively assessed the m6A modification patterns, the relationship between these modification patterns and the characteristics of the IME. The m6A modification patterns of individual IS sample were quantified by m6Ascore. The performance of m6A phenotype-related genes as potential biomarkers was evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Experimental validation was also performed by qRT-PCR. Six dysregulated m6A regulators were identified and a classification model consisting of four key m6A regulators (METLL3, RBMX, RBM15B, YTDHF3) could distinguish IS and healthy control samples well. METTL3 and YTHDF3 are closely related to circulating neutrophil abundance. Two distinct m6A modification patterns were determined which differed in immunocyte abundance. We also identified six m6A phenotype-related genes (APOBEC3A, PTMA, FCGR3A, LOC440926, LOC649946, and FTH1L11), and further explored their biological function. Among them, APOBEC3A, FCGR3A, and FTH1L11 were positively associated with neutrophil abundance. APOBEC3A and FCGR3A were stable diagnostic m6A-associated genes in both the discovery and validation cohorts. This study reveals that m6A modification plays a non-negligible role in the formation of a diversified and complex IME in IS. The m6A phenotype-related genes could be diagnostic biomarkers of IS.

Abstract Stroke increasingly affects individuals of working age. An accurate assessment of Readiness for Return-to-Work (RRTW) can help determine the optimal timing for RRTW and facilitate an early reintegration into society. This study investigates the current state of RRTW and the influencing factors among young and middle-aged stroke patients in China. A sample of young and middle-aged stroke patients hospitalized in a tertiary hospital in Henan Province between December 2021 and May 2022 were included in this study. A general information questionnaire and the Readiness for RRTW scale, the Social Support Rate Scale, the Stroke Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Fatigue Severity Scale were administered to the patients. Of the 203 patients successfully surveyed, 60 (29.6%) were in the pre-contemplation stage, 35 (17.2%) in the contemplation stage, 81 (39.9%) in the prepared for action-self-evaluative stage, and 27 (13.3%) in the prepared for action- behavior stage. Logistic regression analysis identified education level, monthly income, time to start rehabilitation therapy, social support, stroke self-efficacy, and fatigue severity as key factors affecting RRTW scale readiness in young and middle-aged stroke patients. The readiness of young and middle-aged stroke patients to Return-to-Work needs to be increased further. Healthcare professionals should consider the influencing factors of RRTW and design targeted intervention programs to facilitate a successful Return-to-Work and normal life.

Abstract Objective To compare the outcomes of patients undergoing Retroperitoneal laparoscopic Radical nephrectomy (RLRN) and Transperitoneal laparoscopic Radical nephrectomy (TLRN). Methods A total of 120 patients with localized renal cell carcinoma were randomized into either RLRN or TLRN group. Mainly by comparing the patient perioperative related data, surgical specimen integrity, pathological results and tumor results. Results Each group comprised 60 patients. The two group were equivalent in terms of perioperative and pathological outcomes. The mean integrity score was significantly lower in the RLRN group than TLRN group. With a median follow-up of 36.4 months after the operation, Kaplan–Meier survival analysis showed no significant difference between RLRN and TLRN in overall survival (89.8% vs. 88.5%; P = 0.898), recurrence-free survival (77.9% vs. 87.7%; P = 0.180), and cancer-specific survival (91.4% vs. 98.3%; P = 0.153). In clinical T2 subgroup, the recurrence rate and recurrence-free survival in the RLRN group was significantly worse than that in the TLRN group (43.2% vs. 76.7%, P = 0.046). Univariate and multivariate COX regression analysis showed that RLRN (HR: 3.35; 95%CI: 1.12–10.03; P = 0.030), male (HR: 4.01; 95%CI: 1.07–14.99; P = 0.039) and tumor size (HR: 1.23; 95%CI: 1.01–1.51; P = 0.042) were independent risk factor for recurrence-free survival. Conclusions Our study showed that although RLRN versus TLRN had roughly similar efficacy, TLRN outperformed RLRN in terms of surgical specimen integrity. TLRN was also significantly better than RLRN in controlling tumor recurrence for clinical T2 and above cases. Frequent merging, overtaking, and lane-changing behaviors at freeway on-ramp areas usually cause traffic bottlenecks with low efficiency and significant safety concerns. Fortunately, the development of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) presents a promising technology for improving merging efficiency and safety. Current research on CAV merging strategies mainly focuses on single-lane scenarios and relies heavily on oversimplified simulation tests. To this end, this study proposes a merging strategy framework for the merging CAV in complex multi-lane mixed traffic scenarios, taking into account the potential interference caused by other vehicles’ lane-changing behaviors. First, a merging gap selection method assists the merging CAV in choosing a more suitable merging gap. Then, a lateral speed control strategy provides the CAV with highly efficient lateral guidance by giving optimal lateral speed control parameters. Furthermore, a pre-merging safety preparation method controls the CAV to adjust its speed longitudinally to avoid potential conflicts. Finally, the merging execution part is proposed to guarantee the CAV an effective, safe, and comfortable merging experience. The proposed model is tested in merging scenarios extracted from the Delft freeway trajectory dataset. Results indicate that the proposed merging strategy can significantly improve the merging efficiency by 45%, while offering a safe and comfortable merging trajectory for CAVs in multi-lane mixed traffic scenarios.

Abstract Background To establish a predictive model based on multisequence magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using deep learning to identify wild-type (WT) epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), EGFR exon 19 deletion (19Del), and EGFR exon 21-point mutation (21L858R) simultaneously. Methods A total of 399 patients with proven brain metastases of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were retrospectively enrolled and divided into training (n = 306) and testing (n = 93) cohorts separately based on two timepoints. All patients underwent 3.0-T brain MRI including T2-weighted, T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion recovery, diffusion-weighted imaging, and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted sequences. Radiomics features were extracted from each lesion based on four sequences. An algorithm combining radiomics approach with graph convolutional networks architecture (Radio-GCN) was designed for the prediction of EGFR mutation status and subtype. The area under the curve (AUC) at receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to evaluate the predication capabilities of each model. Results We extracted 1,290 radiomics features from each MRI sequence. The AUCs of the Radio-GCN model for identifying EGFR 19Del, 21L858R, and WT for the lesion-wise analysis were 0.996 ± 0.004, 0.971 ± 0.013, and 1.000 ± 0.000 on the independent testing cohort separately. It also yielded AUCs of 1.000 ± 0.000, 0.991 ± 0.009, and 1.000 ± 0.000 for predicting EGFR mutations respectively for the patient-wise analysis. The κ coefficients were 0.735 and 0.812, respectively. Conclusions The constructed Radio-GCN model is a new potential tool to predict the EGFR mutation status and subtype in NSCLC patients with brain metastases. Relevance statement The study demonstrated that a deep learning approach based on multisequence MRI can help to predict the EGFR mutation status in NSCLC patients with brain metastases, which is beneficial to guide a personalized treatment. Key points • This is the first study to predict the EGFR mutation subtype simultaneously. • The Radio-GCN model holds the potential to be used as a diagnostic tool. • This study provides an imaging surrogate for identifying the EGFR mutation subtype. Abstract Objective Prostate cancer (PC) is a significant disease affecting men’s health worldwide. More than 60% of patients over 65 years old and more than 80% are diagnosed with localized PC. The current choice of treatment modalities for localized PC and whether overtreatment is controversial. Therefore, we wanted to construct a nomogram to predict the risk factors associated with cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) in elderly patients with localized PC while assessing the survival differences in surgery and radiotherapy for elderly patients with localized PC. Methods Data of patients with localized PC over 65 years were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used to determine independent risk factors for CSS and OS. Nomograms predicting CSS and OS were built using multivariate Cox regression models. The consistency index (C-index), the area under the subject operating characteristic curve (AUC), and the calibration curve were used to test the accuracy and discrimination of the prediction model. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to test the potential clinical value of this model. Results A total of 90,434 patients over 65 years and diagnosed with localized PC from 2010 to 2018 were included in the study. All patients were randomly assigned to the training set (n = 63,328) and the validation set (n = 27,106). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression model analysis showed that age, race, marriage, T stage, surgical, radiotherapy, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and Gleason score (GS) were independent risk factors for predicting CSS in elderly patients with localized PC. Age, race, marriage, surgery, radiotherapy, PSA, and GS were independent risk factors for predicting OS in elderly patients with localized PC. The c-index of the training and validation sets for the predicted CSS is 0.802(95%CI:0.788–0.816) and 0.798(95%CI:0.776–0.820, respectively). The c-index of the training and validation sets for predicting OS is 0.712(95%:0.704–0.720) and 0.724(95%:0.714–0.734). It shows that the nomograms have excellent discriminatory ability. The AUC and the calibration curves also show good accuracy and discriminability. Conclusion We have developed new nomograms to predict CSS and OS in elderly patients with localized PC. After internal validation and external temporal validation with reasonable accuracy, reliability and potential clinical value, the model can be used for clinically assisted decision-making.

In order to enhance the toughness of mining polymer foam, polyethylene glycol (PEG), an organic material, was added to modify the toughening effect of foam. The effect of PEG modification with different molecular weight was studied by scanning electron microscope, thermogravimetric test, oxygen index test, cone calorimetric test, compressive strength test, foaming and curing time test. The results show that: PEG with different molecular weight can effectively increase the compressive strength of phenolic resin foam and reduce its pulverization rate. When the molecular weight of PEG is 1 000, the addition of 6% has the best toughening effect, the compressive strength reaches 0.155 MPa, and the pulverization rate decreases to 1.3%. Adding a certain amount of PEG can effectively increase the foaming ratio of phenolic resin, but at the same time, it will increase the shrinkage and curing time of its foam. The pore structure of PEG modified phenolic resin foam is more uniform, and the pore size of foam is also more uniform, mainly because the PEG that does not react with the phenolic resin plays the role of surfactant, and can better mix the curing agent with the resin. Compared with the thermal stability of phenolic resin foam with different PEG molecular weight, the larger the molecular weight, the worse the thermal stability of phenolic resin foam with more PEG molecular weight.

The objective of this study is to summarize the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) enema in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). The randomized controlled trials on TCM enema intervention in the treatment of UC were searched in seven databases: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CBM, CNKI, Wanfang Database, and VIP Database from January 1, 2013 to June 6, 2022, and the data were analyzed using RevMan 5.3 software. A total of 18 studies involving 1514 UC patients were included. Meta analysis results showed that compared with conventional Western medicine, Chinese medicine enema had a significant effect on UC, and the clinical effective rate of the experimental group using Chinese medicine enema was 4.45 times that of the control group using conventional Western medicine (odds ratio = 4.45, 95% confidence interval [3.27, 6.06]). Therefore, Chinese medicine enema is effective in the treatment of UC, and can significantly reduce related symptoms.

In the service industry, some operations require preparatory measures and cannot deliver immediate and reliable services. Identifying potential clients in densely populated environments presents a significant challenge for improving service efficiency. Current methodologies used to predict pedestrian trajectories demonstrate suboptimal performance in service-oriented contexts. In response to these challenges, this paper introduces “POI-GAN”, a novel approach tailored to forecasting pedestrian trajectories in service-centric settings. POI-GAN devises an interest point model that conceptualizes service locations within the scene as distinct obstacles. These service locations are subsequently characterized employing a social force model. Additionally, the framework introduces a field of view angle model which filters interactions between dynamic and static objects in the scene to establish plausibility. Subsequently, a generative model is used to produce projected pedestrian trajectories for future time frames. Empirical evaluations highlight the effectiveness of POI-GAN in improving trajectory prediction, particularly in scenarios with multiple interest points in the scene. Notably, POI-GAN exhibits superior performance when measured against analogous methods, as evidenced by the improved Average Displacement Error (ADE) and Final Displacement Error (FDE) metrics. This innovative approach empowers service providers with the capacity to effectively discern potential customers within the scene, ultimately elevating the quality of service delivery.

Vehicle object detection using UAV images is a crucial undertaking in urban traffic management and the advancement of autonomous driving technologies. Conventional networks fail to achieve accuary in detecting vehicle objects from a drone’s perspective due to the significant variations in the size of the target items, unequal distribution of their positions in the image, and image degradation induced by the drone’s movement.In order to surmount this challenge, this research suggests an enhanced TOOD object detection model named Drone-TOOD. The first proposal is to create a lightweight network skeleton called CSPRegNet by merging CSPblock with Regblock. Secondly, we incorporate Regblock into CSPPAFPN to enhance CSPRegPAFPN and incorporate EVCblock at the upsampling location of deep features to capture corner area details and minimize the degradation of feature information. In addition, a efficient task decomposition attention module is also proposed to enhance the interaction ability of positioning and classification tasks. This task decomposition module can highlight the characteristics of a specific task while retaining the characteristics of another task, thereby improving detection capabilities. Experiments conducted on the Drone Vision Challenge Benchmark (VisDrone) demonstrate that the enhanced model can obtain superior performance compared to TOOD. The average precision (mAP) achieved by our approach is 64%, surpassing TOOD by 7.9%. The frames per second (FPS) stayed constant at 27.2. Drone-TOOD demonstrates superior performance compared to other lightweight models on the VisDrone-2021 dataset. In order to demonstrate the robustness of our approach, we additionally performed ablation experiments and conducted tests on the UAV Detection and Tracking Dataset (UAVDT), resulting in an achieved mean average precision (mAP) of 64.6%. Furthermore, Drone-TOOD possesses a total of parameter approximately 21.7 M.

Abstract As the world’s biggest emitter of carbon, China’s agricultural carbon emissions account for 16 to 17%, with agriculture being the second largest contributor to carbon emissions. The development of the digital economy has brought profound changes to agricultural ecology. Therefore, we utilize China’s data experience to construct an agricultural ecological transformation system by setting up a Super-SBM model. Then, based on a dynamic panel threshold model, we explore the nonlinear impact mechanism of the digital economy on agricultural ecological transformation from a low-carbon innovation perspective. Our results reveal that the overall level of China’s agricultural ecological transformation is not high, but in the long-term posture, it represents a relatively steady upward trend, with a significant “wealth gap” between different regions. It is worth noting that there is a significant threshold effect of low-carbon innovation heterogeneity in the impact mechanism of digital economy on agricultural ecological transformation: under lower low-carbon innovation levels, the development of digital economy is unable to effectively promote agricultural ecological transformation. However, as the level of low-carbon technological innovation increases and exceeds the critical value, it stimulates the driving effect of digital economy to some extent, thereby promoting the improvement of agricultural ecological transformation, presenting a “U” shaped relationship. The paper has clarified the differential “new phenomena” in the process of promoting agricultural ecological transformation, providing new insights for achieving “carbon reduction and economic promotion” in developing countries.

Femoral neck fractures are a common type of fracture, accounting for approximately 3.58% of total body fractures and about 50% of proximal femoral fractures. They are particularly prevalent in elderly individuals with osteoporosis, especially those aged 65 and older. This study aims to develop and implement a progressive balance training program for elderly femoral neck fracture patients, guided by the behavior change wheel theory. Through literature review and expert consultation, we developed a progressive balance training program using the behavior change wheel theory. We selected 83 patients admitted to our orthopedics department for hip surgery between January 2022 and December 2022 and divided them into a control group (n = 42) and an intervention group (n = 41). The control group followed a standard exercise program, while the intervention group underwent the progressive balance training program. Their rehabilitation outcomes were compared using the Berg Balance Scale, Harris hip joint function assessment, and the Chinese version of the Fall Efficiency Scale at the first bedside standing, as well as at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 12 weeks after the operation. Repeated measures analysis of variance revealed statistically significant time-related effects, interaction effects and between-group effects in both groups for the Berg Balance Scale scores (Ftime = 5753.969, Finteraction = 221.20, Fbetween−groups = 1496.285), Harris hip joint function scores (Ftime = 2750.864, Finteraction = 115.315, Fbetween−groups = 760.690), and Fall Efficiency Scale scores (Ftime = 2590.021, Finteraction = 176.961, Fbetween−groups = 625.033) postoperatively. We conclude that the progressive balance training program developed based on the behavior change wheel theory can accelerate the postoperative balance recovery in total hip arthroplasty patients, promote hip joint function recovery, and reduce the fear of falling among patients.
