Abstract

Aim: In this study, we aimed to assess cosmetic use and associated negative effects among female graduate students at the universities. Subject and methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study design was used to assess cosmetic utilization and any associated negative consequences among 338 female graduate students from June 1 to June 30, 2022. Descriptive and inferential statistics were computed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. Results: All female students used cosmetics, and the prevalence of cosmetic-related adverse effects was 65.1%. Hair breakage was the leading adverse effect, followed by skin allergies and soreness. The determinants of cosmetic-related adverse effects were as follows: previous urban residence before joining the university (P-value: 0.034, AOR = 2.43, 95% CI: 1.06–5.52); greater than 500 birr monthly pocket money (P-value: 0.011, AOR = 2.76, 95% CI: 1.26–6.05); number of cosmetics used per day: 3–5 cosmetics/day (P-value: 0.001, AOR = 7.41, 95% CI :2.29–24.03); cosmetics left on more than 5 days before cleansing (P-value: 0.001, AOR = 10.12, 95% CI: 4.3–35.8); the practice of label-reading (P-value: 0.016, AOR = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.17–0.83); and health confirmation as selection criteria (P-value: 0.01, AOR = 0.03, 95% CI: 0.006–0.23). Conclusion: All of the female students were found to be using cosmetic products, and two thirds had developed cosmetic-related adverse effects. It is basically advisable to have rational cosmetic utilization.

Despite the fact that there have been in vitro studies and claims supporting wound healing, there has been no scientific data on the in vivo wound healing activities of the root of S. Abyssinica.Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the wound healing activity of 80% methanol root extract and solvent fractions of S. Abyssinica in mice.Methods: The roots of S. Abyssinica were air dried, ground and macerated by 80% methanol three times successively. The crude extract was fractionated by water, hexane and ethyl acetate separately. The acute dermal toxicity test was done by applying 2000 mg/kg of the 10% w/w crude extract. Wound healing activity of crude extract was evaluated on excision, incision and burn wound models, while the fractions were evaluated on excision wound model only.Results: In mice, an acute dermal toxicity test of 2000 mg/kg of the 10% w/w crude extract was found to be safe. The 10% w/w crude extract ointment (CEO) produced significant (p < 0.001) wound contraction from 4th to 16th post wounding days, and the 5% w/w CEO were significant (p < 0.01) wound contraction on 10th post wounding day as compared to simple ointment (SO) treated group on excision wound. Abstract

Introduction: with COVID-19 vaccines being developed concurrently, it is clear that inadequate knowledge and poor attitudes among communities around the world provide a significant obstacle and continue to prevent the complete population from being immunized against highly contagious illnesses. The study's objective was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and barriers that healthcare professionals have towards the COVID-19 vaccine. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted through a self-administered questionnaire that was disseminated to health care professionals working in the South Gondar zone hospitals, in South Gondar Zone, Ethiopia. SPSS Statistics Version 25 was used to enter and evaluate the data that were gathered. To ascertain the relationship between independent and outcome variables, binary logistic analysis was performed. Results: a total of 450 respondents participated in the survey, and 90% of them completed and returned. The majority of the participants (94.44%) were aware of the COVID-19 vaccination. More than half of them (56.22%) had experience with COVID-19 treatment, and 54.7% had sufficient knowledge about COVID-19 immunization. The importance of the vaccine in maintaining population COVID-19 immunization coverage and in reducing COVID-19 incidence to prevent the onset of new epidemics, respectively, was positively viewed by more than two-thirds (74.43%) and 84.4% of the respondents, respectively. Furthermore, only 6.6% of respondents approved of pharmaceutical companies' advertising of the COVID-19 vaccine. Conclusion: according to the current study, healthcare professionals had a promising view of COVID-19 immunization. However, the overall percentage of positive responses to the attitude questions was only 48.34%. Additionally, more than 76.67% of the respondents reported that if the community does not receive the COVID-19 vaccination, the incidence of the virus will greatly grow.
