Abstract

Comprehensive Summary: Multi‐substituted cyclohexanes play a crucial role as scaffolds in bioactive compounds. While significant progress has been made in synthesizing substituted cyclohexanes, methods for the stereoselective assembly of 1,3‐disubstituted cyclohexanes remain scarce. This study presents a novel approach involving nickel catalysis to achieve stereoselective carboboration of 1,4‐cyclohexadiene. This innovative process allows for the simultaneous introduction of a boron group and an aryl or an alkyl fragment into the 1,4‐cyclohexadiene framework under mild conditions, with exclusive regioselectivity and excellent cis configuration. The resulting products feature a double carbon bond and the incorporation of the boron group, offering significant potential for subsequent transformations and downstream applications. Abstract

While chain‐walking stimulates wide interest in both polymerization and organic synthesis, site‐ and stereoselective control of chain‐walking on rings is still a challenging task in the realm of organometallic catalysis. Inspired by a controllable chain‐walking on cyclohexane rings in olefin polymerization, we have developed a set of chain‐walking carboborations of cyclohexenes based on nickel catalysis. Different from the 1,4‐trans‐selectivity disclosed in polymer science, a high level of 1,3‐regio‐ and cis‐stereoselectivity is obtained in our reactions. Mechanistically, we discovery that the base affects the reduction ability of B2pin2 and different bases lead to different catalytic cycles and different regioselective products (1,2‐ Vs 1,3‐addition). This study provides a concise and modular method for the synthesis of 1,3‐disubstituted cyclohexylboron compounds. The incorporation of a readily modifiable boronate group greatly enhances the value of this method, the synthetic potential of which was highlighted by the synthesis of a series of high‐valued commercial chemicals and pharmaceutically interesting molecules. Abstract

Cross-coupling reactions are essential for the synthesis of complex organic molecules. Here, we report a nickel-catalyzed Ullmann cross-coupling of two sp2-hybridized organohalides, featuring high cross-selectivity when the two coupling partners are used in a 1:1 ratio. The high chemoselectivity is governed by the bathocuproine ligand. Moreover, the mild reductive reaction conditions allow that a wide range of functional groups are compatible in this Ullmann cross-coupling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
