1. Integrating Chemistry Knowledge in Large Language Models via Prompt Engineering

Abstract

This paper presents a study on the integration of domain-specific knowledge in prompt engineering to enhance the performance of large language models (LLMs) in scientific domains. A benchmark dataset is curated to encapsulate the intricate physical-chemical properties of small molecules, their drugability for pharmacology, alongside the functional attributes of enzymes and crystal materials, underscoring the relevance and applicability across biological and chemical domains.The proposed domain-knowledge embedded prompt engineering method outperforms traditional prompt engineering strategies on various metrics, including capability, accuracy, F1 score, and hallucination drop. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated through case studies on complex materials including the MacMillan catalyst, paclitaxel, and lithium cobalt oxide. The results suggest that domain-knowledge prompts can guide LLMs to generate more accurate and relevant responses, highlighting the potential of LLMs as powerful tools for scientific discovery and innovation when equipped with domain-specific prompts. Abstract

As the main means of mastication, teeth can withstand countless functional contacts. The mechanical properties of teeth are closely related to their tissue structure. Enamel and dentin have a high hardness and modulus of elasticity, and their graded structure allows them to withstand bite forces without being susceptible to fracture. When tooth tissue is defective, full crown restoration is often needed to restore the normal shape and function of the tooth. Metal materials, ceramic materials, and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) materials are commonly used for crown restoration. Metal materials have certain disadvantages in terms of aesthetics and are relatively rarely used in clinical practice. Ceramic materials with different compositions exhibit differences in performance and aesthetics, but their elastic modulus and hardness are much higher than those of dental tissue, resulting in mismatching mechanical properties. In contrast, the elastic modulus of PEEK is lower than that of tooth tissue and similar to that of bone tissue, but its properties can be improved by fiber reinforcement. Notably, when the mechanical properties of a restoration material and tooth tissue are not fully matched, the interface between them often forms a potential weak link, which ultimately affects the stability and long-term effect of the restoration. This article introduces the mechanical properties and corresponding structural characteristics of enamel and dentin. On this basis, the advantages and limitations of existing restoration materials are analyzed, and the possibility of biomimetic design of full crowns is further explored.

22. Decentralized Optimization over Tree Graphs

Abstract

This paper presents a decentralized algorithm for non-convex optimization over tree-structured networks. We assume that each node of this network can solve small-scale optimization problems and communicate approximate value functions with its neighbors based on a novel multi-sweep communication protocol. In contrast to existing parallelizable optimization algorithms for non-convex optimization the nodes of the network are neither synchronized nor assign any central entity. None of the nodes needs to know the whole topology of the network, but all nodes know that the network is tree-structured. We discuss conditions under which locally quadratic convergence rates can be achieved. The method is illustrated by running the decentralized asynchronous multi-sweep protocol on a radial AC power network case study.

28. Centralized Coded Caching with User Cooperation

Abstract

In this paper, we consider the coded-caching broadcast network with user cooperation, where a server connects with multiple users and the users can cooperate with each other through a cooperation network. We propose a centralized coded caching scheme based on a new deterministic placement strategy and a parallel delivery strategy. It is shown that the new scheme optimally allocate the communication loads on the server and users, obtaining cooperation gain and parallel gain that greatly reduces the transmission delay. Furthermore, we show that the number of users who parallelly send information should decrease when the users' caching size increases. In other words, letting more users parallelly send information could be harmful. Finally, we derive a constant multiplicative gap between the lower bound and upper bound on the transmission delay, which proves that our scheme is order optimal., Comment: 9 pages, submitted to ITW2019

36. Design and Synthesis of D‐A Polymer as Cathode Material for Na‐Based Dual‐Ion Batteries with Excellent Cycling Performance.

Abstract

Organic bipolar electrodes can undergo both n‐type and p‐type reactions for energy storage due to numerous active sites, which can usually deliver a high theoretical specific capacity. Herein, a new bipolar polymer cathode material PQPZ is designed and synthesized. The electron‐donating phenazine group undergoes a two‐electron redox reaction which can store anions, the electron‐withdrawing phenanthraquinone can store sodium‐ions through a two‐electron redox reaction. Notably, as a bipolar cathode material for sodium‐ion batteries, PQPZ exhibits a reversible specific capacity of up to 270 mAh g−1 in the voltage range of 1.0–4.0 V (vs. Na+/Na) and achieves a high energy density of 696 Wh kg−1 in a half‐cell. A capacity retention rate of 90% is obtained after 300 cycles at a current density of 0.5C. More excitingly, even after being cycled for 10000 cycles at 10C, the PQPZ electrode shows an average decay rate as low as 0.0036% per cycle, manifesting a very stable cycling performance. In addition, PQPZ also shows excellent performances when tested at −10 °C, making it promising in practical applications. Considering the bipolar character of PQPZ, symmetric batteries are also successfully constructed, fulfilling the “ready‐to‐charge” property without a pre‐activation process.
