Abstract

High-efficiency pour point depressants (PPDs) for diesel fuel were obtained using a series of tetradecyl methacrylate-N-α-methacrylamide copolymers (C14MC-NMLR) with different molar ratios synthesized through radical polymerization of tetradecyl methacrylate (C14MC) and various forms of N-α-methacrylamide (NMLR, R = -phenyl, -naphthyl, -cyclohexyl, -14a, -16a, -18a). The copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, and thermogravimetric analysis. Results showed that diesel treated with C14MC-NML-phenyl (9:1) and C14MC-NML-14a (6:1) presented better cold flow properties at 2000 ppm, and the reductions in cold filter-plug point (ΔCFPP) and solid point (ΔSP) were (23 and 10 °C) and (22 and 11 °C) at 2000 ppm, respectively. The depressive effects further improved after compounding. When they were combined at a 1:4 mass ratio, PPDC-6 presented the best depressive effects, and the ΔCFPP and ΔSP reached 25 and 11 °C at 1000 ppm dosage and 28 and 15 °C at 2000 ppm dosage, respectively. Additionally, the crystallization behavior and crystal morphology of each treated diesel were explored.

Abstract

The investigation examined attitude accessibility as an alternative to the accepted explanation, which is based on threat and counterarguing, for the way that inoculation confers resistance to influence. A total of 333 participants took part in the study in three phases spanning 36 days. The results of multivariate and correlational analyses indicated that inoculation treatments confer resistance, in part, by promoting attitude accessibility. Inoculation treatments immediately elicit attitude accessibility, which enhances attitude strength. Attitude strength, in time, contributes to resistance to the influence of counterattitudinal attacks. The theoretical implications of these findings are discussed.

13. Priming in the Inoculation Process: An Alternative Route of Resistance to Persuasion.

Abstract

This investigation compared established explanations for the way inoculation confers resistance and an alternative explanation based on priming. A total of 308 participants took part in the study in three phases spanning 80 days. The pattern of results indicated that inoculation treatments trigger threat; that elicited threat directly enhances Phase 2 attitude which directly fosters resistance. The results also indicated that inoculation treatments elicit anger and reduce the number of positive responses to the attack message, which, in time, directly enhance resistance to the influence of persuasive attacks. In addition, results showed that issue involvement enhances counterarguing output which, in turn, directly fosters resistance. Results of structural equation modeling indicated that inoculation treatments trigger threat; however, elicited threat neither directly nor indirectly enhances resistance. This unexpected finding may be attributed to one of the topics selected, which failed to generate a high enough threat level as was generated in previous studies. Finally, structural equation modeling didn't reveal any path between inoculation and resistance, suggesting that anger, responses to the attack message, and counterarguing output may have accounted for most of the variance in participants' resistance to the influence of persuasive attacks.
