The left atrial appendage (LAA) occluder is an important medical device for closing the LAA and preventing stroke. The device‐related thrombus (DRT) prevents the implantation of the occluder in exerting the desired therapeutic effect, which is primarily caused by the delayed endothelialization of the occluder. Functional coatings are an effective strategy for accelerating the endothelialization of occluders. However, the occluder surface area is particularly large and structurally complex, and the device is subjected to a large shear friction in the sheath during implantation, which poses a significant challenge to the coating. Herein, a hydrogel coating by the in situ UV‐triggered polymerization of double‐network polyelectrolytes is reported. The findings reveal that the double network and electrostatic interactions between the networks resulted in excellent mechanical properties of the hydrogel coating. The sulfonate and Arg‐Gly‐Asp (RGD) groups in the coating promoted hemocompatibility and endothelial growth of the occluder, respectively. The coating significantly accelerated the endothelialization of the LAA occluder in a canine model is further demonstrated. The widespread transmission of blaNDM among livestock and the live poultry industry attracts considerable public attention. However, studies have not yet addressed its impact on public health in live poultry markets (LPMs). Herein, we investigated the prevalence and genomic epidemiology of blaNDM-positive bacteria in various niches, and explored the transmission patterns of blaNDM within LPMs. Samples were collected between 2019 and 2022 from two LPMs in China. blaNDM was most prevalent in wastewater (35/66, 53.03%). All vegetable samples were negative for blaNDM. blaNDM was mainly distributed among Escherichia coli (266/336, 79.17%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (62/336, 18.45%), and Acinetobacter baumannii (3/336, 0.89%). Some novel hosts, including Pseudomonas monteilii and Pseudomonas otitis, were also identified. Diverse variants blaNDM-1, blaNDM-5, blaNDM-9, blaNDM-13, and blaNDM-27 were identified. The blaNDM-positive E. coli ST2659 was dominant. blaNDM was found to coexist with mcr-1 (4/51, 7.84%). Horizontal gene transfer plays a vital role in blaNDM transmission within the LPMs. Some blaNDM-harboring clones transfer among animals and the environment through the food chain and close contact. High entropy materials are becoming more and more popular in energy storage field of supercapacitors because of their unique structure and modulated functional characteristics, but their low conductivity and instability of electrode structure limit their further electrochemical performance. In this paper, we use polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different molecular weights to modify the surface morphology of the high entropy oxides (FeCoCrMnNi) 3 O 4 in an attempt to improve their supercapacitors performance. The PEG was used as a pore-making agent to prepare porous high entropy oxides powder with a large specific surface area of 92.7559 m2 g−1, providing more active sites and ion transport channels. A high specific capacitance of 204 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 and good cycle performance of 60.4 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles were obtained. Besides, an asymmetric device with improved energy density of 53 W h kg−1 and the power density of 400.8 W kg−1 were reached via the designed microstructure of the high entropy oxide electrode. A novel triple helical-like complex [Dy2K2L3(NO3)2]·3DMF (1) based on a designed Schiff base N′1,N′3-bis((E)-3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-malonohydrazide (H4L) was synthesized with good chemical and thermal stabilities. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis showed that 1 presents a tetranuclear triple helical-like structure via the coordination mode of Dy : K : L with 2 : 2 : 3 stoichiometry. Fluorescence measurements showed that 1@EtOH has excellent fluorescence turn-on/off response ability for aluminium ions and 4,5-dimethyl-2-nitroaniline (DMNA) with outstanding selectivity, sensitivity, and anti-interference ability. The calculated limit of detection (LOD) values for 1@EtOH to Al3+ and DMNA were found to be 0.53 and 3.33 μM, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation showed that the fluorescence response mechanism can be explained by the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism; meanwhile, the inner filter effect (IFE) of DMNA can also affect the emission of 1@EtOH. Purpose: Sleep problems are a significant issue in patients with lung cancer, and resilience is a closely related factor. However, few studies have identified subgroups of resilience and their relationship with sleep quality. This study aimed to investigate whether there are different profiles of resilience in patients with lung cancer, to determine the sociodemographic characteristics of each subgroup, and to determine the relationship between resilience and sleep quality in different subgroups. Methods: A total of 303 patients with lung cancer from four tertiary hospitals in China completed the General Sociodemographic sheet, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Latent profile analysis was applied to explore the latent profiles of resilience. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the sociodemographic variables in each profile, and ANOVA was used to explore the relationships between resilience profiles and sleep quality. Results: The following three latent profiles were identified: the “high-resilience group” (30.2%), the “moderate-resilience group” (46.0%), and the “low-resilience group” (23.8%). Gender, place of residence, and average monthly household income significantly influenced the distribution of resilience in patients with lung cancer. Conclusion: The resilience patterns of patients with lung cancer varied. It is suggested that health care providers screen out various types of patients with multiple levels of resilience and pay more attention to female, rural, and poor patients. Introduction: Long‐term spaceflight composite stress (LSCS) can cause adverse effects on human systems, including the central nervous system, which could trigger anxiety and depression. Aims: This study aimed to identify changes in hippocampus synaptic plasticity under LSCS. Methods: The present study simulated the real long‐term space station environment by conducting a 42‐day experiment that involved simulating microgravity, isolation, noise, circadian rhythm disruptions, and low pressure. The mood and behavior of the rats were assessed by behavior test. Transmission electron microscopy and patch‐clamp were used to detect the changes in synapse morphology and electrophysiology, and finally, the expression of NMDA receptor channel proteins was detected by western blotting. Results: The results showed that significant weight loss, anxiety, and depressive behaviors in rats were observed after being exposed to LSCS environment for 42 days. The synaptic structure was severely damaged, manifested as an obvious decrease in postsynaptic density thickness and synaptic interface curvature (p < 0.05; p < 0.05, respectively). Meanwhile, LTP was significantly impaired (p < 0.0001), and currents in the NMDAR channel were also significantly reduced (p < 0.0001). Further analysis found that LSCS decreased the expression of two key subtype proteins on this channel. The metal free photocatalysts have more environmentally friendly and low-cost advantages but are challenging to find suitable ones. Using the electronic properties of the edge-passivated graphene nanoribbons (EPGNRs) by manipulating the widths and edges, we demonstrate that 5 EPGNRs consisting of metal free elements, which are screened from 10 graphene nanoribbons passivated by H/N/O/F atoms, can achieve high solar-to-hydrogen efficiency in overall water splitting for hydrogen production. After ensuring the energy and thermodynamic stabilities, we construct 16 possible photocatalytic schemes for each EPGNR. At the same time, the feasible ones are selected by calculating charge density distributions, vacuum levels, and the potential energy of the band edges. 9 eligible schemes for overall water splitting are determined and the solar-to-hydrogen efficiencies are calculated according to the overpotentials and band gaps. The highest value of 34.19% is attributed to the H-GNR-O nanoribbon and a larger 38.71% can be boosted by stain engineering, which reveals that the passivated atoms can substantially manipulate the electronic properties and photocatalytic performance of graphene nanoribbons. The calculated Gibbs free energies confirm that the photocatalytic hydrogen and oxygen generations can be driven by the present EPGNRs. Therefore, the newfound metal free EPGNRs are promising for driving overall water splitting for generating hydrogen in a clean way. Treatment modalities of ependymoma in infants remain controversial. Postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy could prolong overall survival but has the potential to affect nervous system development in infants. The role of adjuvant chemotherapy in prolonging overall survival for infants with ependymoma is still unclear. Therefore we designed this study to explore the effect of treatment modalities on survival time of infants with ependymoma. We studied 72 infants with ependymoma from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database in this retrospective analysis. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were adopted to determine hazard ratios and compare overall survival. Among 72 infants with ependymoma, 35 were male (48.6%) and 37 were female (51.4%). The 5-year overall survival of all patients was 67%. Forty-six infants (63.9%) received gross total resection, 20 (27.8%) received subtotal resection, and 6 (8.3%) did not receive surgical resection or only autopsy. Twenty-one infants (29.2%) received radiotherapy, and 45 (62.5%) received chemotherapy. Multivariate analysis revealed that patients accepted surgical resection (No vs. gross total resection, P < 0.001; No vs. subtotal resection, P = 0.026) and chemotherapy (No vs. Yes, P = 0.024) are the independent prognostic factors for overall survival. Treatment modality is associated with survival time in infants with ependymoma. The extent of resection and chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors for infants with ependymoma. Traditional evaluation of accumulative damage calculates fatigue life of metro's bogie frame based on material properties and stress spectrums, which has limitation on evaluating accurate life due to non-crack assumption. In this paper, crack propagation is numerically simulated to give more accurate result, showing that a crack's initial geometry has great effects on reducing fatigue life cycles, and the count of cycles required for a crack with an initial size of 3 mm and 5 mm to propagate to an equivalent crack length is 68.5 % and 48.3 %, respectively, in comparison to a 2 mm initial crack size. On this basis, damage tolerance analysis is introduced for optimizing anti-fatigue evaluation strategy and maintenance periods. The results suggest that accumulative damage and damage tolerance methods should be comprehensively combined for staging evaluation of bogie frame's fatigue life, by establishing a control boundary between the initial crack and the critical crack, proactive repairs can be executed, which facilitates the ongoing usability of the bogie frame, leading to an extension of its effective operational periods. This study proposed a reverse calculation model of the unique rod pump injection and production system structures in the same well to diagnose and resolve defects, after which dynamometer diagrams of the system production and injection pumps were drawn. The invariant moment feature method was applied to identify seven such characteristics in the injection pump power graph, establishing a downhole system for fault diagnosis in rod pump injection and production systems in the same well using Rough Set(RS)-Learning Vector Quantization(LVQ). On the premise of keeping the classification ability unchanged, the Self-Organizing Map(SOM) neural network was used to discretize the original feature data, while RS theory was employed for attribute reduction. After establishing the LVQ fault diagnosis subsystem, the reduced decision table was entered for learning and training. The test results confirmed the efficacy and accuracy of this method in diagnosing downhole faults in rod pump injection-production systems in the same well. After comparing the test results with the actual working conditions, it can be seen that the rod pump injection-production diagnosis system based on RS-LVQ designed in this paper has a recognition rate of 91.3% for fault types, strong recognition ability, short diagnosis time, and A certain practicality. However, the research object of fault diagnosis in this paper is a single fault, and the actual downhole fault situation is complex, and there may be two or more fault types at the same time, which has certain limitations. A xylanase gene (named xyngmqa) was identified from the metagenomic data of the Gumingquan hot spring (92.5 °C, pH 9.2) in Tengchong City, Yunnan Province, southwest China. It showed the highest amino acid sequence identity (82.70%) to endo-1,4-beta-xylanase from Thermotoga caldifontis. A constitutive expression plasmid (denominated pSHY211) and double-layer plate (DLP) method were constructed for cloning, expression, and identification of the XynGMQA gene. The XynGMQA gene was synthesized and successfully expressed in Escherichia coli DH5α. XynGMQA exhibited optimal activity at 90 °C and pH 4.6, being thermostable by maintaining 100% of its activity after 2 h incubated at 80 °C. Interestingly, its enzyme activity was enhanced by high temperatures (70 and 80 °C) and low pH (3.0–6.0). About 150% enzyme activity was detected after incubation at 70 °C for 20 to 60 min or 80 °C for 10 to 40 min, and more than 140% enzyme activity after incubation at pH 3.0 to 6.0 for 12 h. Hydrolytic products of beechwood xylan with XynGMQA were xylooligosaccharides, including xylobiose (X2), xylotriose (X3), and xylotetraose (X4). The necessity for precise prediction of penetration depth in the context of electron beam welding (EBW) cannot be overstated. Traditional statistical methodologies, including regression analysis and neural networks, often necessitate a considerable investment of both time and financial resources to produce results that meet acceptable standards. To address these challenges, this study introduces a novel approach for predicting EBW penetration depth that synergistically combines computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling with artificial neural networks (ANN). The CFD modelling technique was proven to be highly effective, yielding predictions with an average absolute percentage deviation of around 8%. This level of accuracy is consistent across a linear electron beam (EB) power range spanning from 86 J/mm to 324 J/mm. One of the most compelling advantages of this integrated approach is its efficiency. By leveraging the capabilities of CFD and ANN, the need for extensive and costly preliminary testing is effectively eliminated, thereby reducing both the time and financial outlay typically associated with such predictive modelling. Furthermore, the versatility of this approach is demonstrated by its adaptability to other types of EB machines, made possible through the application of the beam characterisation method outlined in the research. With the implementation of the models introduced in this study, practitioners can exert effective control over the quality of EBW welds. Objective To summarize the best evidence for lung cancer screening and follow-up management of pulmonary nodules, and to provide reference for clinical practice. Methods Extensive literature search on lung cancer screening and follow-up management of pulmonary nodules was conducted in CNKI, WANFANG, VIP, PubMed, EMbase and Web of Science. The information extraction, quality evaluation and summary of evidence were carried out, and the retrieval period was up to December 1, 2022. Results A total of 33 articles were included in this study, including 5 guidelines, 2 expert consensuses, 2 expert recommendations, 14 systematic reviews and 10 cohort studies. Finally, 6 recommendations on lung cancer screening were concluded, including screening process, recommended screening age, recommended high-risk groups, recommended screening means, recommended screening frequency, and smoking cessation intervention among smokers. And 2 recommendations on pulmonary nodule management were concluded. Conclusion This study summarizes evidence of lung cancer screening and pulmonary nodules management, which can provide reference for health care personnel to conduct early screening and follow-up management of lung cancer in high-risk groups. Background: The association between lipid metabolism disorder and carcinogenesis is well-established, but there is limited research on the connection between lipid metabolism-related genes (LRGs) and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The objective of our research was to identify LRGs as the potential biomarkers for prognosis and assess their impact on immune cell infiltration in LUAD. Methods: We identified novel prognostic LRGs for LUAD patients via the bioinformatics analysis. CYP27A1 expression level was systematically evaluated via various databases, such as TCGA, UALCAN, and TIMER. Subsequently, LinkedOmics was utilized to perform the CYP27A1 co-expression network and GSEA. ssGSEA was conducted to assess the association between infiltration of immune cells and CYP27A1 expression. CYP27A1's expression level was validated by qRT-PCR analysis. Results: CYP27A1 expression was decreased in LUAD. Reduced CYP27A1 expression was linked to unfavorable prognosis in LUAD. Univariate and multivariate analyses indicated that CYP27A1 was an independent prognostic biomarker for LUAD patients. GSEA results revealed a positive correlation between CYP27A1 expression and immune-related pathways. Furthermore, CYP27A1 expression was positively correlated with the infiltration levels of most immune cells. A reliable method for determination of six α‐dicarbonyl compounds in traditional Chinese medicines was first developed and validated by high‐performance liquid chromatography‐fluorescence detector with pre‐column derivatization. α‐Dicarbonyl compounds in traditional Chinese medicines were extracted and derivatized with 2,3‐diaminaphthalene. The derivatization procedure of six α‐dicarbonyl compounds was confirmed by high‐resolution mass spectrometry. The limits of quantitation for six α‐dicarbonyl compounds ranged from 3.70 × 10−3 to 2.21 × 10−2 μM. The established method showed good linearity (regression coefficient > 0.9990), precision (relative standard deviation < 3.37%), and high recovery (97.8%∼113.1%). The developed method was successfully applied to detect the six α‐dicarbonyl compounds in traditional Chinese medicines. The result exhibited six α‐dicarbonyl compounds was found in the 15 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines, which suggested us that the determination of α‐dicarbonyl compounds should be paid more attention in the quality control of traditional Chinese medicines. Bloodstream infections are a growing public health concern due to emerging pathogens and increasing antimicrobial resistance. Rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) is urgently needed for timely and optimized choice of antibiotics, but current methods require days to obtain results. Here, we present a general AST protocol based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS-AST) for bacteremia caused by eight clinically relevant Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens treated with seven commonly administered antibiotics. Our results show that the SERS-AST protocol achieves a high level of agreement (96% for Gram-positive and 97% for Gram-negative bacteria) with the widely deployed VITEK 2 diagnostic system. The protocol requires only five hours to complete per blood-culture sample, making it a rapid and effective alternative to conventional methods. Our findings provide a solid foundation for the SERS-AST protocol as a promising approach to optimize the choice of antibiotics for specific bacteremia patients. Previous studies have found that high entropy oxides can be used as electrode materials for supercapacitors. However, there is still the problem of their low energy density. We tried to increase the energy density while increasing the specific capacitance of high entropy oxides from the potential window. Transition metal elements Fe, Co, Cr, Mn and Ni were selected for their electrochemical activity, and high entropy oxides were prepared by a sol–gel method under different calcination temperatures. The calcination temperature affects the structural morphology and crystallinity of the high entropy oxides and thus also affects the electrochemical performance. The spinel-phase (FeCoCrMnNi)3O4 with a high specific surface area of 63.1 m2 g−1 was prepared at a low calcination temperature of 450 °C. The specific capacitance is 332.2 F g−1 at a current density of 0.3 A g−1 in 1 M KOH electrolyte with a wide potential window of (−1, 0.6). Aims: Edoxaban is a non‐vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC) widely used for the long‐term prevention of stroke in patients with non‐valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Adherence to NOAC therapy has been unsatisfactory and decreases over time. Remedial strategies are currently used to address the non‐adherence events. Current recommendations, however, are generic and not well supported by evidence. The aim of this study was to explore appropriate remedial dosing regimens for non‐adherent edoxaban‐treated NVAF patients through Monte Carlo simulation. Methods: Six regimens were compared with the current recommendations of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) guide based on total deviation time. Both edoxaban plasma concentration and intrinsic Factor Xa activity were considered. Monte Carlo simulations were performed using RxODE based on a published population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) model. Results: The proposed remedial strategies were different than the EHRA recommendations and were related to the delay time. However, it was found that the missed dose can be administered immediately if the delay time is within 11 h. When the delay is between 12 and 19 h, a half dose followed by a regular dosing schedule is recommended. When the delay time exceeds 19 h, a full dose followed by a half dose is preferred. Conclusion: PK/PD modelling and simulation are effective in developing and evaluating the remedial strategies of edoxaban, which can help maximise its therapeutic effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In schizophrenia, the age at illness onset may reflect genetic loading and predict prognosis. We aimed to compare the pre-treatment symptom profiles and clinical symptom responses to antipsychotic treatment of individuals with late-onset schizophrenia (LOS; onset age: 40–59 years) with individuals with early-onset schizophrenia (EOS; onset age < 18 years) or typical-onset schizophrenia (TOS; onset age: 18–39 years). We conducted an 8-week cohort study in inpatient departments of five mental health hospitals in five cities in China. We included 106 individuals with LOS, 80 with EOS, and 214 with TOS. Their onset of schizophrenia was within three years and the disorders were minimally treated. The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) was used to evaluate clinical symptoms at baseline and after 8 weeks of antipsychotic treatment. Mixed effect models were used to compare symptom improvement within eight weeks. Antipsychotic therapy reduced all PANSS factor scores in all three groups. LOS had significantly better improvement in PANSS positive factor scores than EOS at week 8 after adjusting for sex, duration of illness, dose equivalents of antipsychotics at baseline, sites as fixed effects, and individuals as random effects. LOS was associated with reduced positive factor scores at week 8 when receiving 1 mg olanzapine dose equivalent per 1 kg body weight compared with EOS or TOS. In conclusion, LOS had better early improvement of positive symptoms than EOS and TOS. Abnormalities in subcortical brain structures may reflect higher suicide risk in mood disorders, but less is known about its associations for schizophrenia. This cross-sectional imaging study aimed to explore whether the history of suicide attempts was associated with subcortical changes among individuals with schizophrenia. We recruited 44 individuals with schizophrenia and a history of suicide attempts (SZ-SA) and 44 individuals with schizophrenia but without a history of suicide attempts (SZ-NSA) and 44 healthy controls. Linear regression showed that SZ-SA had smaller volumes of the hippocampus (Cohen's d = −0.72), the amygdala (Cohen's d = −0.69), and some nuclei of the amygdala (Cohen's d, −0.57 to −0.72) than SZ-NSA after adjusting for age, sex, illness phase, and intracranial volume. There was no difference in the volume of the subfields of the hippocampus. It suggests the history of suicide attempts is associated with subcortical volume alterations in schizophrenia. Designing a strong tissue adhesive and multifunctional hydrogel dressing for various skin injuries is still a significant challenge. Based on the bioactive activities of rosmarinic acid (RA) and its catechol structure being similar to dopamine, RA-grafted dextran/gelatin hydrogel (ODex−AG−RA) was designed and systemically characterized in this study. The ODex−AG−RA hydrogel exhibited excellent physicochemical properties, including fast gelation time (61.6 ± 2.8 s), strong adhesive strength (27.30 ± 2.02 kPa) and enhanced mechanical properties (1.31 × 104 Pa of G′). The examination of hemolysis and co-culturing with L929 cells showed the strong in vitro biocompatibility of ODex−AG−RA hydrogels. The ODex−AG−RA hydrogels exhibited a 100% mortality rate against S. aureus and at least 89.7% against E. coli in vitro. In vivo evaluation for efficacy in skin wound healing was carried out in a rat model of full-thickness skindefect. The amount of collagen deposition and CD31 on wounds in the two ODex−AG−RA−1 groups on day 14 was 4.3 times and 2.3 times of that in the control group, respectively. Furthermore, the mechanism of ODex−AG−RA−1 for promoting wound healing was proved to be related to its anti-inflammatory properties by adjusting the expression of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and CD163) and reducing the level of oxidative stress (MDA and H2O2). Overall, this study demonstrated the wound-healing efficacy of RA-grafted hydrogels for the first time. Suicide hotlines are widely used, with potential for identification of callers at especially high risk. This prospective study was conducted at the largest psychological support hotline in China. From 2015 to 2017, all distressed callers were consecutively included and assessed, using a standardized scale consisting of 12 elements, yielding scores of high risk (8–16), moderate risk (4–7), and low risk (0–3) for suicidal act. All high-risk and half of moderate- and low-risk callers were scheduled for a 12-month follow-up. Main outcomes were suicidal acts (nonlethal attempt, death) over follow-up. Of 21,346 fully assessed callers, 5822, 11,791, and 3733 were classified as high-, moderate-, or low-risk for suicidal acts, with 8869 callers (4076 high-, 3258 moderate-, and 1535 low-risk) followed up over 12 months. Over follow-up, 802 (9.0 %) callers attempted suicide or died by suicide. The high-risk callers (15.1 %) had 3-fold higher risk for subsequent suicidal acts than moderate- (5.1 %) and 12-fold higher risk than low-risk callers (1.3 %). The weighted sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value of high risk scores were 56.4 %, 74.9 %, and 14.4 %. Assessed callers with different risk levels were followed disproportionally. Objective: To detect the expression of Growth factor binding protein 2 associated binding protein 2 (Gab2) and CT10 regulator of kinase II (CrkII) in ovarian cancer and analyze their clinical significance. To explore the effects of Gab2 and CrkII on the biological behavior of ovarian cancer cells. To analyze the possible molecular mechanism of Gab2 in the development of ovarian cancer. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Gab2 and CrkII in ovarian cancer. Chi square test was used to analyze the correlation between Gab2, CrkII and clinical parameters. Using Cox regression model to evaluate the risk factors affecting the prognosis. To analyze the correlation between Gab2, CrkII and survival rate by Kaplan–Meier. Cell experiments were preformed to explore the effects of Gab2 and CrkII on the biological behavior of cells. The interaction between Gab2 and CrkII was explored by immunoprecipitation. Results: Immunohistochemistry revealed that high expression of Gab2 and CrkII in ovarian cancer. Patients with high expression of Gab2 or CrkII had higher International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, grade and platinum-resistance recurrence. Multivariate analysis showed that Gab2 and CrkII were independent prognostic factors. Kaplan–Meier curve showed that the higher Gab2 and CrkII were, the poor prognosis the patients had. We observed that the overexpression of Gab2 and CrkII promoted the proliferation, metastasis and reduced chemosensitivity of cells. Conversely, the knockdown of Gab2 and CrkII resulted in the opposite results. In CrkII-knockdown cells, we found that Gab2 mediates biological behavior through CrkII. Background: Little is known about the role of serine peptidase inhibitor Kazal type 4 (SPINK4) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and ferroptosis. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of SPINK4 on CRC pathogenesis and ferroptosis. Methods: SPINK4 expression was analyzed in public datasets and examined using immunohistochemistry. The biological function of SPINK4 in CRC cell lines and its effect on ferroptosis were tested. An immunofluorescence assay was performed to determine the location of SPINK4 in cells, and mouse models were established to determine the effects of SPINK4 in vivo. Results: CRC datasets and clinical samples analysis revealed that SPINK4 mRNA and protein levels were significantly reduced in CRC tissues compared to control tissues (P < 0.05). Two CRC cell lines (HCT116 and LoVo) were selected, and the in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that overexpression of SPINK4 greatly promotes the proliferation and metastasis of CRC cells and tumor growth (P < 0.05). The immunofluorescence assay indicated that SPINK4 is mainly located in the nucleoplasm and nucleus of CRC cells. Furthermore, SPINK4 expression was reduced after cell ferroptosis induced by Erastin, and overexpression of SPINK4 greatly inhibited ferroptosis in CRC cells. The results of mouse model further demonstrated that SPINK4 overexpression inhibited CRC cell ferroptosis and facilitated tumor growth. Suicide risk and auditory hallucinations are common in schizophrenia, but less is known about its associations. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine whether the presence and severity of auditory hallucinations were associated with current suicidal ideation or behavior (CSIB) among patients with schizophrenia. We interviewed 299 individuals with schizophrenia and acute symptoms and reviewed their medical records. Measurement included the Psychotic Symptom Rating Scale (PSYRATS-AH), the Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS), and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. Logistic regression and path analysis were used. The CSIB prevalence was higher among patients with current auditory hallucination than those without (19.5% vs. 8.6%, crude odds ratio = 2.58, p =.009). Lifetime auditory hallucination experience (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 3.81; 95% CI: 1.45–10.05) or current auditory hallucination experience (AOR = 3.22; 95% CI: 1.25–8.28) can elevate the likelihood of CSIB while controlling for depressive symptoms and lifetime suicide-attempt history. Among those with auditory hallucinations, the emotional score of the PSYRATS-AH was positively associated with the CDSS score and there was a small indirect effect of the CDSS score on the association between the emotional domain score and CSIB (bias-corrected 95% CI, 0.02–0.20). In conclusion, the presence of auditory hallucinations was strongly associated with CSIB, independent of depressive symptoms and lifetime suicide attempts. Suicide risk assessment should consider auditory hallucination experience and patients' appraisal of its emotional characteristics. Future cohort studies are necessary to provide more conclusive evidence for the mediating pathways between auditory hallucinations and CSIB. Predicting the penetration depth during electron beam welding (EBW) is important, but the accuracy of current predictive models is highly varied, depending on the type and number of data used. This paper develops and compares several penetration depth prediction models for EBW and uniquely compares the influence of the number and type of data used, as well as the measurement and modelling methods. Although accelerating voltage, beam current and welding speed data are essential modelling inputs, additional data for beam focal position and beam shape, measured using a novel 4-slit beam probing method, greatly improve the accuracy of predictions for models based on an empirical equation, a second-order regression and an artificial neural network (ANN). Optimised models predict weld depths that deviate, on average, by less than 5% from measured depths, are valid for very broad linear electron beam power density ranges (86–324 J/mm) and are close to the estimated 4% inherent variability in the process and its measurement. Within this linear electron beam power density range, the ANN yields accurate and reliable depth predictions, demanding as few as 36 welding trials, decreasing the number required for models that do not consider beam focal position and shape, for the same targeted accuracy, by more than 60%. Retinoblastoma (RB), the most common malignant retinal tumor among children under 3 years old, is lethal if left untreated. Early diagnosis, together with timely and effective treatment, is important to improve retinoblastoma-related outcomes. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a new class of non-coding RNAs with the capacity to regulate cellular activities, have great potential in retinoblastoma diagnosis and treatment. Recent studies have identified circular RNAs that regulate multiple cellular processes involved in retinoblastoma, including cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy, migration, and invasion. Six circular RNAs (circ-FAM158A, circ-DHDDS, circ-E2F3, circ-TRHDE, circ-E2F5, and circ-RNF20) promote disease progression and metastasis in retinoblastoma and function as oncogenic factors. Other circular RNAs, such as circ-TET1, circ-SHPRH, circ-MKLN1, and circ-CUL2, play tumor suppressive roles in retinoblastoma. At present, the studies on the regulatory mechanism of circular RNAs in retinoblastoma are not very clear. The purpose of this review is to summarize recent studies on the functional roles and molecular mechanisms of circular RNAs in retinoblastoma and highlight novel strategies for retinoblastoma diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. Molecular representation learning is a crucial task to accelerate drug discovery and materials design. Graph neural networks (GNNs) have emerged as a promising approach to tackle this task. However, most of them do not fully consider the intramolecular interactions, i.e. bond stretching, angle bending, torsion, and nonbonded interactions, which are critical for determining molecular property. Recently, a growing number of 3D-aware GNNs have been proposed to cope with the issue, while these models usually need large datasets and accurate spatial information. In this work, we aim to design a GNN which is less dependent on the quantity and quality of datasets. To this end, we propose a force field-inspired neural network (FFiNet), which can include all the interactions by incorporating the functional form of the potential energy of molecules. Experiments show that FFiNet achieves state-of-the-art performance on various molecular property datasets including both small molecules and large protein–ligand complexes, even on those datasets which are relatively small and without accurate spatial information. Moreover, the visualization for FFiNet indicates that it automatically learns the relationship between property and structure, which can promote an in-depth understanding of molecular structure. For nearly a decade, quality-related fault detection algorithms have been widely used in industrial systems. However, the majority of these detection strategies rely on static assumptions of the operating environment. In this paper, taking the time series of variables into consideration, a dynamic kernel entropy component regression (DKECR) framework is proposed to address the instability of quality-related fault detection due to the existing dynamic characteristics. Compared with the typical kernel entropy component analysis method, the proposed method constructs the relationship between process states and quality states to further interpret the direct effect on the product taken by the fault. In the proposed approach, process measurements are converted to a lower-dimensional subspace with a specific angular structure that is more comprehensive than traditional subspace approaches. In addition, the angular statistics and their relevant thresholds are exploited to enhance the quality-related fault detection performance. Finally, the proposed method will be compared with three methods by means of a numerical example and two industrial scenarios to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness. Controlling and measuring the quality state is challenging for the high-level monitoring system of the manufacturing process due to the nonlinear dynamic feature in states. This paper proposes a new data-driven method based on the kernel entropy component analysis method to assess the correlation between the quality and fault in the industrial system, reducing unnecessary overhaul and maintenance. Based on the autoregressive moving average exogenous algorithm, the proposed method captures the dynamic interaction between the process states to decrease false alarms. In the experimental section, the DKECR method outperforms the compared approaches, which can provide stable fault detection results. BACKGROUND: Brain plasticity evoked by environmental enrichment through early mobilization may improve sensorimotor functions of patients with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Increasing evidence also suggests that early mobilization increases verticalization, which is beneficial to TBI patients in critical care. However, there are limited data on early mobilization interventions provided to patients with moderate-to-severe TBI. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the possible enhancing effects of revised progressive early mobilization on functional mobility and the rate of out-of-bed mobility attained by patients with moderate-to-severe TBI. METHODS: This is a quantitative study with a retrospective and prospective pre–post intervention design. We implemented a revised progressive early mobilization protocol for patients with moderate-to-severe TBI admitted to the trauma intensive care unit (ICU) within the previous seven days. The outcome parameters were the rate of patients attaining early mobilization (sitting on the edge of the bed) and the Perme ICU Mobility Score at discharge from the ICU. The outcome parameters in the intervention cohort were compared with those from a historical control cohort who received standard medical care a year previously. Differences in the Perme ICU Mobility Score between the two cohorts were assessed using univariate analysis of covariance. RESULTS: Forty-two patients were included in the progressive early mobilization program and were compared with 44 patients who underwent standard medical care. In the intervention cohort, 100% and 57.2% of the patients completed early rehabilitation and early mobilization, respectively, compared to 0% in the control cohort. The intervention cohort at ICU discharge showed significantly improved the Perme ICU Mobility Scores. CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of the revised progressive early mobilization program for patients with moderate-to-severe TBI resulted in significantly improved mobility at ICU discharge; however, the length of overall stay in the ICU may be not affected. To explore the surface charge behavior of polyimide films under corona discharge, the surface potential at both high-voltage (HV) stage and short-circuit (SC) stage is measured by a noninvasive method. DC HVs with different magnitudes, polarities, and durations are applied to a needle electrode to generate corona discharge. The surface potential without corona discharge exhibits a homopolar pulse at the HV stage and a heteropolar pulse at the SC stage because of interfacial polarization and depolarization. This article proposes a three-region model (including corona region, homopolar-charge region, and sample surface region) to explain the surface potential evolution with corona discharge. Surface potential under corona discharge shows a large fluctuation followed by decay with oscillation during the HV stage. The combined effect of interfacial depolarization and surface charge leakage explains the “backtracking” phenomenon at the SC stage. From the comparison under different polarities, it is found that negative corona produces more charge deposition than the positive case, and the leakage rate of negative charge is faster than that of positive charge. Moreover, both a lower applied voltage and a longer duration lead to a smaller amount of residual surface charge and a more obvious “backtracking” phenomenon. • The association between temperature and influenza was nonlinear, and the contribution of low temperatures to influenza epidemics was relatively large. • The association between temperature and influenza activity varies in different regions, suggesting that influenza prevention and control policies need to be tailored to local conditions. • The threshold temperatures for an early warning of serious influenza outbreaks were −24.3 ℃ in northeast region, 16.6 ℃ in northwest region, and 1–10 ℃ in the other regions of China. Temperature affects influenza transmission; however, currently, limited evidence exists about its effect in China at the national and city levels as well as how temperature can be integrated into influenza interventions. Meteorological, pollutant, and influenza data from 201 cities in mainland China between 2013 and 2018 were analyzed at both the city and national levels to investigate the relationship between temperature and influenza prevalence. We examined the impact of temperature on the time-varying reproduction number (R t) using generalized additive quasi-Poisson regression models combined with the distributed lag nonlinear model. Threshold temperatures were determined for seven regions based on the early warning threshold of serious influenza outbreaks, set at R t = 1.2. A multivariate random-effects meta -analysis was employed to assess region-specific associations. The excess risk (ER) index was defined to investigate the correlation between R t and temperature, modified based on seasonal and regional characteristics. At the national level and in the central, northern, northwestern, and southern regions, temperature was found to be negatively correlated with relative risk, whereas the shapes of the data curves for the eastern, southwestern, and northeastern regions were not well defined. Low temperatures had an observable effect on influenza prevalence; however, the effects of high temperatures were not obvious. At an R t of 1.2, the threshold temperatures for reaching a warning for serious influenza outbreaks were − 24.3 °C in the northeastern region, 16.6 °C in the northwestern region, and between 1℃ and 10 °C in other regions. The study findings revealed that temperature had a varying effect on influenza transmission trends (R t) across different regions in China. By identifying region-specific temperature thresholds at R t = 1.2, more effective early warning systems for influenza outbreaks could be tailored. By combining Gd dopant induction and magnetron sputtering technique, vertically-aligned Gd-doped WO 3 nano-stalagmite arrays (GW-NSs) have been first constructed on the ITO-coated glass substrate, which exhibits a significantly improved electrochromic and capacitive performance. The microstructure analysis shows that the GW-NSs film with optimized aspect ratio and array density is fabricated with Gd/W = 0.6 % in atomic ratio. Such GW-NSs electrode (active area: 1 × 1.5 cm2) exhibits large transmittance modulation (ΔT = 52.7 % at 633 nm), high coloration efficiency (87.3 cm2 C−1 at 633 nm), fast switching speed (5.9/13.1 s for coloration/bleaching), large diffusion coefficient (9.52 × 10−10 cm2 s−1) and long-term cycling stability (>2000) under an applied voltage of ± 1.0 V, which can be attributed to a shorten Li+ diffusion distance and a large-area contact with the electrolyte. Importantly, the GW-NSs film also shows superior capacitive performance (calculated areal capacitance of 8.44 mF cm−2 at 0.4 mA cm−2) and long-term cyclic stability (capacitance retention rate is 87.4 % after 2000 cycles). Here, we present several allotrope SiCP 4 monolayers with high stability, high carrier mobility, and excellent photocatalytic performance. Using a searching method based on the universal structure predictor evolutionary xtallography, together with assessing the energy and thermodynamic stabilities, and matching the potentials of band edges with the photocatalytic conditions for achieving overall water splitting, we successfully identify 5 highly favorable configurations (including the previously reported one) from a pool of 1056 allotrope SiCP 4 monolayers. The results show that the largest solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of the considered monolayers can reach 21.89 %, while a high mobility of 2.7677 × 105 cm2 V−1 s−1 is observed, both are superior to those of the previously reported one. The Gibbs free energies for hydrogen or oxygen evolutions, and CO 2 reduction reactions indicate they are thermodynamically feasible. Moreover, the hydrogen evolution reaction can proceed spontaneously with two allotrope SiCP 4 monolayers. Therefore, the newfound allotrope SiCP 4 monolayers are expected to have potential applications in the field of photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen generation and carbon dioxide reduction. Endometriosis is a hormone-associated disease which has been considered as the precursor for certain types of ovarian cancer. In recent years, emerging evidence demonstrated potent roles of lncRNA in regulating cancer development. Since endometriosis shares several features with cancer, we investigated the possible involvement of cancer-related lncRNAs in endometriosis, including UCA1, GAS5 and PTENP1. By using massARRAY system, we investigated certain genetic variations in cancer-related lncRNAs that can change the thermo-stability, leading to up-regulation or down-regulation of those lncRNAs. Our data indicated three risk genetic haplotypes in UCA1 which can stabilize the RNA structure and increase the susceptibility of endometriosis. Of note, such alterations were found to be associated with long-term pain and infertility in patients. It has been known that UCA1 can function as a ceRNA to sponge and inhibit miRNAs, resulting in loss-of-control on downstream target genes. Gene network analyses revealed fatty acid metabolism and mitochondria beta-oxidation as the major pathways associated with altered UCA1 expression in endometriosis patients. Background: Previous studies have implicated childhood trauma and abnormal brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Here, we explored whether brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels mediated the relationship between childhood trauma and psychopathological symptoms in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. Methods: Patients with first-episode schizophrenia (n = 192) and healthy controls (n = 136) were enrolled. Childhood traumatic experiences and psychopathology were assessed by Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, respectively. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to quantify brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. Results: The patients with first-episode schizophrenia experienced more severe childhood trauma and had lower serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels than healthy controls. Emotional abuse and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire total score showed positive correlation with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale positive, general psychopathological subscore and total score. Emotional neglect showed positive correlation with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale positive subscore. Physical neglect was positively associated with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale negative subscore. Emotional neglect and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire total score were negatively correlated with serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. The serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels mediated the relationship between both Childhood Trauma Questionnaire total score and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score and negative symptoms in the patients. The brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels also mediated the relationship between emotional neglect and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score in the patients. Conclusion: Childhood trauma might contribute to the clinical symptoms of schizophrenia by affecting brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels. In Klippel-Feil patients with atlantoaxial dislocation, narrow C2 pedicles are often encountered preventing pedicle screw placement. Alternative techniques, including translaminar screws, pars screws, and inferior process screws could not achieve 3-column rigid fixation, and have shown inferior biomechanical stability. The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of C3 pedicle screws (C3PSs) as an option for atlantoaxial stabilization in Klippel-Feil patients, and to introduce a freehand technique, the "medial sliding technique," for safe and accurate C3PS insertion. Thirty-seven Klippel-Feil patients with congenital C2–3 fusion who have received atlantoaxial fixation were reviewed. Preoperative CT and CT angiography were acquired to evaluate the feasibility of C3PS placement. C1 lateral mass and C3PS constructs were used for atlantoaxial stabilization. The "medial sliding technique" was introduced to facilitate C3PS insertion. Clinical outcomes and complications were evaluated, and screw accuracy was graded on postoperative CT scans. Morphological measurements showed that more than 80% C3 pedicles could accommodate a 3.5-mm screw. Fifty-eight C3PSs were placed in 33/37 patients using the medial sliding technique. Overall, 96.7% screws were considered safe and there was no related neurovascular complications; 27/33 patients exhibited neurological improvement and 30/33 patients had a solid bone fusion at an average 19.3-month follow-up. Therefore, the C3PS was a feasible option for atlantoaxial fixation in Klippel-Feil patients. The clinically efficiency of C3PS was satisfied with high fusion rates and low complications. Background. Bone loss is common in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of metabolic bone disease in patients newly diagnosed with IBD and to identify the risk factors for bone loss over time. Methods. We performed a retrospective, both cross-sectional and longitudinal, study to extract the risk factors of bone loss (including osteopenia and osteoporosis) in patients newly diagnosed with IBD, using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Results. A total of 639 patients newly diagnosed with IBD that had at least one DXA were included in the cross-sectional study. Osteopenia and osteoporosis were diagnosed in 24.6% and 5.4% of patients, respectively. Age at diagnosis, body mass index, and serum phosphorus were identified as independent factors associated with bone loss at baseline. A total of 380 of the 639 IBD patients (including 212 CD patients and 168 UC patients) with at least a second DXA scan were included in the longitudinal study. 42.6% of the patients presented a worsening of bone loss in the follow-up study. Menopause, albumin, and use of corticosteroids were identified as independent factors associated with worsening of bone loss. Conclusions. Metabolic bone disease is common in IBD patients, and there is a significant increase in prevalence of bone loss over time. Postmenopausal female, malnourished patients, and those requiring corticosteroid treatment are at risk for persistent bone loss. To explore dc flashover characteristics and evaluate the dc flashover resistance of epoxy resin, an online surface potential measurement is proposed and verified in this article. Rising positive and negative dc high voltages (HVs) with a step of 0.5 kV per 5 min are applied to epoxy resin until the intensive flashover occurs, and the surface potential at the triple junction point is measured during flashover. It is found that the surface potential profile appears as the recurrence of flashover units during intensive flashover. A three-point peak-finding algorithm with threshold judgment is proposed to determine the interval between adjacent flashover units. Both appropriate surface potential difference threshold (SPDT) and flashover interval (FI) are used to evaluate the severity of flashover (i.e., the opposite of flashover resistance). It is interesting to find positive and negative flashover has different surface potential evolution characteristics. Positive flashover exhibits larger fluctuation, higher SPDT, and shorter FI, which may result from severe positive charge accumulation before every single flashover due to the low surface mobility of the positive charge. The non-Gaussian fluctuations of baryon density are sensitive to the presence of the conjectured QCD critical point. Their observational consequences are crucial for the ongoing experimental search for this critical point through the beam energy scan program at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). In the expanding fireball created in a heavy-ion collision, critical fluctuations would inescapably fall out of equilibrium and require a systematic description within a dynamical framework. In this paper, we employ newly developed effective field theory (EFT) for fluctuating hydrodynamics to study the real-time critical non-Gaussian fluctuations of a conserved charge density. In particular, we derive the evolution equations for multi-point correlators of density fluctuations and obtain the closed-form solutions with arbitrary initial conditions that can readily be implemented in realistic simulations for heavy-ion collisions. We find that non-linear interactions among noise fields, which are missing in traditional stochastic hydrodynamics, could potentially contribute to the quartic (fourth-order) fluctuations in the scaling regime even at tree level in off-equilibrium situations. In the past several decades, N -heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands with strong σ donation have become of great interest for transition metal medicinal applications. This review mainly focuses on an update of transition metal–NHC complexes in antitumor therapy, including the antitumor properties, the possible mechanisms of action, and structure–activity relationships for novel metal–NHC complexes from 2017 to the present. [Display omitted] • Recent developments of transition metal N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes for antitumor therapy are reviewed. • The antitumor properties of metal–NHC complexes (Au, Ag, Pd, Pt, Ru, Rh, Re, Ir, Fe, Cu) are discussed. Metal complexes, which exhibit alterable oxidation states, coordination numbers, and capacity to coordinate with different ligands, have provided a versatile platform for designing novel theranostic agents. This paper applies statistical and synthetic analysis methods to study the characteristics of the three types of tropical cyclone (TC) that landed in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) from 1981 to 2018 and the reasons for the differences of TC-induced wind and precipitation. The results show that there are interdecadal changes in the frequency and intensity of the landfalling TCs in the GBA, with decreased frequency but increased intensity in the 2010s. The TCs that landed in the west of the Pearl River Estuary (PRE) have the highest frequency and the strongest intensity during landing, which bring the strongest winds; the TCs that landed in the PRE have the lowest frequency and the shortest duration after landing, which cause the strongest precipitation; the TCs that landed in the east of the PRE have the longest duration on the land. This study shows that near the center of the TCs that landed in the PRE, there is a weak anomalous cyclonic shear compared with the ones that landed in the west of the PRE. It is a confluence area of anomalous north wind and anomalous southwest wind, with better water vapor convergence and dynamic rising conditions, which is conducive to the formation of heavy precipitation. Compared with the TCs that landed in the PRE and in its east, there is a closed positive anomalous center of pressure gradient in the northwest center of the TCs that landed in its west, resulting in higher wind speeds in the west of the PRE. The characteristics of the three types of TCs in the GBA are highly related to TC-induced damage. In the future, the GBA needs to focus on preparing for TCs landing in its west. Zhuhai, Jiangmen and Huizhou are key cities to guard against TCs. Background: Intraoperative hypotension is a common side effect of general anesthesia. Here we examined whether the Hypotension Prediction Index (HPI), a novel warning system, reduces the severity and duration of intraoperative hypotension during general anesthesia. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted in a tertiary referral hospital. We enrolled patients undergoing general anesthesia with invasive arterial monitoring. Patients were randomized 1:1 either to receive hemodynamic management with HPI guidance (intervention) or standard of care (control) treatment. Intraoperative hypotension treatment was initiated at HPI > 85 (intervention) or mean arterial pressure (MAP) < 65 mmHg (control). The primary outcome was hypotension severity, defined as a time-weighted average (TWA) MAP < 65 mmHg. Secondary outcomes were TWA MAP < 60 and < 55 mmHg. Results: Of the 60 patients who completed the study, 30 were in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. The patients' median age was 62 years, and 48 of them were male. The median duration of surgery was 490 min. The median MAP before surgery presented no significant difference between the two groups. The intervention group showed significantly lower median TWA MAP < 65 mmHg than the control group (0.02 [0.003, 0.08] vs. 0.37 [0.20, 0.58], P < 0.001). Findings were similar for TWA MAP < 60 mmHg and < 55 mmHg. The median MAP during surgery was significantly higher in the intervention group than that in the control group (87.54 mmHg vs. 77.92 mmHg, P < 0.001). Conclusions: HPI guidance appears to be effective in preventing intraoperative hypotension during general anesthesia. Further investigation is needed to assess the impact of HPI on patient outcomes. STUDY QUESTION Are there associations of age at menarche (AAM) with health-related outcomes in East Asians? SUMMARY ANSWER AAM is associated with osteoporosis, Type 2 diabetes (T2D), glaucoma, and uterine fibroids, as demonstrated through observational studies, polygenic risk scores, genetic correlations, and Mendelian randomization (MR), with additional findings indicating a causal effect of BMI and T2D on earlier AAM. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Puberty timing is linked to adult disease risk, but research predominantly focuses on European populations, with limited studies in other groups. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION We performed an AAM genome-wide association study (GWAS) with 57 890 Han Taiwanese females and examined the association between AAM and 154 disease outcomes using the Taiwanese database. Additionally, we examined genetic correlations between AAM and 113 diseases and 67 phenotypes using Japanese GWAS summary statistics. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS We performed AAM GWAS and gene-based GWAS studies to obtain summary statistics and identify potential AAM-related genes. We applied phenotype, polygenic risk scores, and genetic correlation analyses of AAM to explore health-related outcomes, using multivariate regression and linkage disequilibrium score regression analyses. We also explored potential bidirectional causal relationships between AAM and related outcomes through univariable and multivariable MR analyses. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Fifteen lead single-nucleotide polymorphisms and 24 distinct genes were associated with AAM in Taiwan. AAM was genetically associated with later menarche and menopause, greater height, increased osteoporosis risk, but lower BMI, and reduced risks of T2D, glaucoma, and uterine fibroids in East Asians. Bidirectional MR analyses indicated that higher BMI/T2D causally leads to earlier AAM. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Our findings were specific to Han Taiwanese individuals, with genetic correlation analyses conducted in East Asians. Further research in other ethnic groups is necessary. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Our study provides insights into the genetic architecture of AAM and its health-related outcomes in East Asians, highlighting causal links between BMI/T2D and earlier AAM, which may suggest potential prevention strategies for early puberty. Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) is typically defined as light with a wavelength within 400–700 nm. However, ultra‐violet (UV) radiation within 280–400 nm and far‐red (FR) radiation within 700–750 nm can also excite photosystems, though not as efficiently as PAR. Vegetation and land surface models (LSMs) typically do not explicitly account for UV's contribution to energy budgets or photosynthesis, nor FR's contribution to photosynthesis. However, whether neglecting UV and FR has significant impacts remains unknown. We explored how canopy radiative transfer (RT) and photosynthesis are impacted when explicitly implementing UV in the canopy RT model and accounting for UV and FR in the photosynthesis models within a next‐generation LSM that can simulate hyperspectral canopy RT. We validated our improvements using photosynthesis measurements from plants under different light sources and intensities and surface reflection from an eddy‐covariance tower. Our model simulations suggested that at the whole plant level, after accounting for UV and FR explicitly, chlorophyll content, leaf area index (LAI), clumping index, and solar radiation all impact the modeling of gross primary productivity (GPP). At the global scale, mean annual GPP within a grid would increase by up to 7.3% and the increase is proportional to LAI; globally integrated GPP increases by 4.6 PgC year−1 (3.8% of the GPP without accounting for UV + FR). Further, using PAR to proxy UV could overestimate surface albedo by more than 0.1, particularly in the boreal forests. Our results highlight the importance of improving UV and FR in canopy RT and photosynthesis modeling and the necessity to implement hyperspectral or multispectral canopy RT schemes in future vegetation and LSMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an important health issue for women. Infection and inflammation play an important role in carcinogenesis and PID has been reported to be associated with ovarian cancer in some small scale studies.Aim: We sought to determine whether PID is associated with an elevated risk of ovarian cancer in Asian women.Methods: Using data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD), our retrospective cohort study included women diagnosed with PID (cases) between the years of 2000 till 2012. Each case was matched with two women without PID (controls) by age and the year of first entry into the database. Both study cohorts were followed-up until the first event of ovarian cancer, withdrawal from the NHI program, death, or the end of the study period (December 31, 2012). Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate crude and adjusted hazard ratios (HRs and aHRs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for the association of PID and ovarian cancer risk, with and without adjusting for potential confounders.Results: During an approximate 10 years of follow-up, cases were significantly more likely than controls to develop ovarian cancer (incidence rates of 0.27 and 0.16 per 1,000 person-years, respectively; P < 0.001). Women with a history of PID had a 1.49-fold elevated risk for ovarian cancer (aHR, 1.49; 95% CI, 1.21-1.84; P < 0.001).Conclusion: Our study evidence supports the contention that PID increases the risk of developing ovarian cancer among Taiwanese women. Gynecologists should undertake careful assessments and closely follow patients with PID, who are at long-term risk of developing ovarian cancer.
