Burkitt's lymphoma is an aggressive B-cell lymphoma with rapid proliferative index, which makes it disseminate easily to distal sites, especially to bone marrow and the central nerve system. We report here a 22-year-old woman with Burkitt's lymphoma involving multiple organs, including kidneys, breasts, left ovary, and bone marrow at the time of diagnosis. The patient responded well to intensive chemotherapy before the onset of retro-orbital pain, vomiting, and photophobia. The contrast-enhanced T1-weighted image in a second magnetic resonance image (MRI) showed a 2 x 1.9 cm mass in her left cavernous sinus that was not found in her initial MRI. Central nervous system (CNS)-directed high-dose chemotherapy and whole-brain radiation could not change the final failed treatment outcome caused by the cavernous sinus involvement disseminating to her entire CNS. Further study should provide well-designed therapeutic strategies to Burkitt's patients with cavernous sinus involvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Meta-analyses have reported conflicting data on the whole blood cell count (WBCC) derived indexes (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio [PLR], and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio [LMR]) and cancer prognosis. However, the strength and quality of this evidence has not been quantified in aggregate. To grade the evidence from published meta-analyses of cohort studies that investigated the associations between NLR, PLR, and LMR and cancer prognosis. A total of 694 associations from 224 articles were included. And 219 (97.8%) articles rated as moderate-to-high quality according to AMSTAR. There were four associations supported by convincing evidence. Meanwhile, 165 and 164 associations were supported by highly suggestive and suggestive evidence, respectively. In this umbrella review, we summarized the existing evidence on the WBCC-derived indexes and cancer prognosis. Background: Although evidence on the association between per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and human health outcomes has grown exponentially, specific health outcomes and their potential associations with PFASs have not been conclusively evaluated., Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search through the databases of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from inception to February 29, 2024, to identify systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies examining the associations between the PFASs and multiple health outcomes. The quality of included studies was evaluated using the A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) tool, and credibility of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) criteria. The protocol of this umbrella review (UR) had been registered in PROSPERO (CRD 42023480817)., Results: The UR identified 157 meta-analyses from 29 articles. Using the AMSTAR measurement tool, all articles were categorized as of moderate-to-high quality. Based on the GRADE assessment, significant associations between specific types of PFASs and low birth weight, tetanus vaccine response, and triglyceride levels showed high certainty of evidence. Moreover, moderate certainty of evidence with statistical significance was observed between PFASs and health outcomes including lower BMI z-score in infancy, poor sperm progressive motility, and decreased risk of preterm birth as well as preeclampsia. Fifty-two (33%) associations (e.g., PFASs and gestational hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc) presented low certainty evidence. Background: Numerous meta-analyses have explored the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and diverse health outcomes, yet the comprehensive assessment of the scope, validity, and quality of this evidence remains incomplete. Our aim was to systematically review and synthesise existing meta-analyses of TyG index and health outcomes and to assess the quality of the evidence., Methods: A thorough search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases was conducted from their inception through to 8 April 2024. We assessed the quality of reviews using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) and the certainty of the evidence using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. This study was registered with PROSPERO (CRD: 42024518587)., Results: Overall, a total of 95 associations from 29 meta-analyses were included, investigating associations between TyG index and 30 health outcomes. Of these, 83 (87.4%) associations were statistically significant (P < 0.05) according to the random effects model. Based on the AMSTAR tool, 16 (55.2%) meta-analyses were high quality and none was low quality. The certainty of the evidence, assessed by the GRADE framework, showed that 6 (6.3%) associations were supported by moderate-quality evidence. When compared with the lowest category of the TyG index, the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) [relative risk (RR) = 2.25, 95%CI 1.82, 2.77], the risk of stroke in patients with diabetes mellitus (RR = 1.26, 95%CI 1.18, 1.33) or with acute coronary syndrome disease (RR = 1.56, 95%CI 1.06, 2.28), the prognosis of coronary artery disease (CAD)-non-fatal MI (RR = 2.02, 95%CI 1.32, 3.10), and the severity of CAD including coronary artery stenosis (RR = 3.49, 95%CI 1.71, 7.12) and multi-vessel CAD (RR = 2.33, 95%CI 1.59, 3.42) increased with high TyG index., Conclusion: We found that the TyG index was positively associated with many diseases including the risk of CIN and stroke, the prognosis of CAD, and the severity of CAD which were supported by moderate-quality evidence. Hyperuricaemia (HUA) is a metabolic disorder characterised by high blood uric acid (UA) levels; moreover, HUA severity is closely related to the gut microbiota. HUA is also a risk factor for renal damage, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidaemia; however, current treatments are associated with detrimental side effects. Alternatively, Fangyukangsuan granules are a natural product with UA-reducing properties. To examine their efficacy in HUA, the binding of small molecules in Fangyukangsuan granules to xanthine oxidase (XOD), a key factor in UA metabolism, was investigated via molecular simulation, and the effects of oral Fangyukangsuan granule administration on serum biochemical indices and intestinal microorganisms in HUA-model rats were examined. Overall, 24 small molecules in Fangyukangsuan granules could bind to XOD. Serum UA, creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and XOD levels were decreased in rats treated with Fangyukangsuan granules compared to those in untreated HUA-model rats. Moreover, Fangyukangsuan granules restored the intestinal microbial structure in HUA-model rats. Functional analysis of the gut microbiota revealed decreased amino acid biosynthesis and increased fermentation of pyruvate into short-chain fatty acids in Fangyukangsuan granule-treated rats. Background: Radiofrequency ablation has been applied for the treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). The two known procedures are percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation (PIMSRA) and endocardial radiofrequency septal ablation (ERSA)., Methods: This study presents a retrospective analysis of the PIMSRA and ERSA procedures in patients with drug-refractory HOCM. A total of 28 patients participated in the study, with 12 receiving PIMSRA and 16 receiving ERSA. The objective of our study was to compare the short-term effects of these two radiofrequency ablation procedures., Results: At the 30-day follow-up, the PIMSRA group demonstrated a greater reduction in left ventricular outflow tract peak gradient at rest compared to the ERSA group (22.25 [16.72] mmHg versus 47.75 [21.94] mmHg) (p < .01). The values for the PIMSRA group decreased from 99.33 (32.00) mmHg to 22.25 (16.72) mmHg (p < .01), while the ERSA group decreased from 97.75 (30.24) mmHg to 47.75 (21.94) mmHg (p < .01). Only the PIMSRA group exhibited a decrease in mitral regurgitation (MR). The area of MR decreased from 10.13 (4.12) mm 2 to 3.65 (2.80) mm 2 in the PIMSRA group (p < .01). Additionally, the PIMSRA group experienced reductions in left atrial diameter (LAD) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)%. The values for LAD changed from 43.58 (7.53) mm to 37.08 (6.92) mm (p = .03), and the values for LVEF% decreased from 65.75 (6.12) pg/mL to 60.83 (4.06) pg/mL (p = .03)., Conclusion: In terms of the two types of radiofrequency ablation methods used in HOCM, it has been observed that PIMSRA demonstrates a more favorable early treatment effect compared to ERSA., (© 2024 The Authors. Self-similarity is valuable to the exploration of non-local textures in single image super-resolution (SISR). Researchers usually assume that the importance of non-local textures is positively related to their similarity scores. In this paper, we surprisingly found that when repairing severely damaged query textures, some non-local textures with low-similarity which are closer to the target can provide more accurate and richer details than the high-similarity ones. In these cases, low-similarity does not mean inferior but is usually caused by different scales or orientations. Utilizing this finding, we proposed a Global Learnable Attention (GLA) to adaptively modify similarity scores of non-local textures during training instead of only using a fixed similarity scoring function such as the dot product. The proposed GLA can explore non-local textures with low-similarity but more accurate details to repair severely damaged textures. Furthermore, we propose to adopt Super-Bit Locality-Sensitive Hashing (SB-LSH) as a preprocessing method for our GLA. With the SB-LSH, the computational complexity of our GLA is reduced from quadratic to asymptotic linear with respect to the image size. In addition, the proposed GLA can be integrated into existing deep SISR models as an efficient general building block. Based on the GLA, we constructed a Deep Learnable Similarity Network (DLSN), which achieves state-of-the-art performance for SISR tasks of different degradation types (e.g., blur and noise). Our code and a pre-trained DLSN have been uploaded to GitHub † for validation.

Recent evidence advises particles with a diameter of 2.5 µm or less (PM 2.5 ) might be a prognostic factor for ovarian cancer (OC) survival. The oxidative balance score (OBS) incorporates diet-lifestyle factors to estimate individuals' anti-oxidant exposure status which may be relevant to cancer prognosis. We aimed to investigate the roles of PM 2.5 , and OBS and their interaction in OC prognosis. 663 patients with OC were enrolled in the current study. Satellite-derived annual average exposures to PM 2.5 based on patients' residential locations. The OBS was calculated based on 16 different diet-lifestyle components derived using an acknowledged self-reported questionnaire. The Cox regression model was performed to estimate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for overall survival (OS). We also assessed the effect of modification between PM 2.5 and OS by OBS via interaction terms. During a median follow-up of 37.57 (interquartile:35.27-40.17) months, 123 patients died. Compared to low-concentration PM 2.5 exposure, high PM 2.5 during 1 year before diagnosis was associated with worse OC survival (HR= 1.19, 95% CI = 1.01-1.42). We observed an improved OS with the highest compared with the lowest OBS (HR = 0.46, 95% CI = 0.27-0.79, P for trend < 0.05). Notably, we also found an additive interaction between low OBS and high exposure to PM 2.5 , with the corresponding associations of PM 2.5 being more pronounced among participants with lower OBS (HR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.09-1.86). (1) Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) and Parkinson's disease (PD) represent a huge public health burden. The relationship of these two diseases is suggested in the literature while not fully understood. To better understand this relationship, we conducted a bidirectional Mendelian ran-domization analysis using genetic markers as a proxy. (2) Methods: Utilizing single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with PD risk, we assessed the association between genetically predicted PD and OC risk, overall and by histotypes, using summary statistics from previously conducted genome-wide association studies of OC within the Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium. Similarly, we assessed the association between genetically predicted OC and PD risk. The inverse variance weighted method was used as the main method to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the associations of interest. (3) Results: There was no significant association between genetically predicted PD and OC risk: OR = 0.95 (95% CI: 0.88-1.03), or between genetically predicted OC and PD risk: OR = 0.80 (95% CI: 0.61-1.06). On the other hand, when examined by histotypes, a suggestive inverse association was observed between genetically predicted high grade serous OC and PD risk: OR = 0.91 (95% CI: 0.84-0.99). (4) Conclusions: Overall, our study did not observe a strong genetic association between PD and OC, but the observed potential association between high grade serous OC and reduced PD risk warrants further investigation.

The development and application of botanical insecticides is important for the sustainable development of green agriculture. The abuse of chemical pesticides has caused serious problems of environment and human health. Botanical insecticides have become an environment-friendly insecticides due to their nature, low toxicity, easy degradation and other advantages, which are an important field of insecticide development in the future. Although botanical insecticides have lots of advantages, there are still problems needed to be resolved, such as insecticidal plant species, impact assessment of botanical pesticide and separation and purification of active components. To excavate the resources of highly effective insecticidal plants and understand the mechanism of botanical insecticides, here we reviewed the progress of resources and active components of botanical insecticides, the mechanisms of action of botanical insecticides, the main active components and insecticidal properties of Zingiber officinale . Finally, we analyzed the difficulties faced in the research and development of botanical insecticides, prospected future directions, and discussed the active components of ginger. This review would provide reference for the deve-lopment of new botanical insecticides.

Background : Epidemiological evidence regarding the relationship between dietary antioxidant vitamin intake and ovarian cancer (OC) survival is not clear. Herein, we aimed to first evaluate this topic in a prospective cohort study in China. Methods : The present study included participants from the Ovarian Cancer Follow-Up Study, which was a hospital-based prospective cohort study including OC patients who were aged 18 to 79 years during 2015-2020. The information on the intake of antioxidant vitamins, consisting of vitamin A, retinol, α-carotene, β-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E, and other diet information was obtained through a 111-item food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were recorded until March 31, 2021. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for overall survival were evaluated using Cox proportional hazards models. Results : There were 130 (18.49%) deaths among 703 OC patients during a median 37.19 months follow-up. In the multivariable-adjusted model, the highest tertile of dietary vitamin C (HR = 0.43, 95% CI = 0.25-0.75, P for trend <0.05) and β-carotene intake (HR = 0.52, 95% CI = 0.31-0.87, P for trend <0.05) was inversely associated with the overall survival of OC when compared with the lowest tertile group. Retinol, vitamin A, vitamin E, and α-carotene consumption showed no association with OC survival. Of note is that the multiplicative interaction was identified between vitamin C intake and residual lesions in OC survival ( P for interaction <0.05). Conclusion : Our findings indicate that pre-diagnostic higher vitamin C and β-carotene intake was associated with improved OC survival.

Liver cancer belongs to Gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies which is a common clinical disease, a thorny public health problem, and one of the major diseases that endanger human health. Molecules from natural products (NPs) or their derivatives play an increasingly important role in various chronic diseases such as GI cancers. The chemical composition of the Alstonia yunnanensis Diels roots was studied using silica column chromatography, gel chromatography, recrystallization, and HPLC, and the compounds were structurally identified by modern spectral analysis using mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H-, 13 C-, HMQC-, HMBC-, and 1 H- 1 HCOSY-NMR), ultraviolet and visible spectrum (UV), and electronic Circular Dichroism (ECD). Acetoxytabernosine (AC), an indole alkaloid with antitumor activity, was isolated from Alstonia yunnanensis Diels root. The current study aimed to investigate the influence of AC on the cell proliferation of BEL-7402 and SMMC7721 and to elucidate the underlying mechanism. The absolute configuration of AC was calculated by ECD (electronic circular dichroism). The effects of AC on the viability of different tumor cell lines were studied by the SRB method. The death mode of human hepatoma cells caused by AC was studied by TUNEL cell apoptosis detection and AnnexinV-FITC/PI double staining image. Mitochondrial membrane potential was detected by JC-1. The effects of AC on the expression of apoptosis-related proteins (Caspase9, Caspase3, and Parp-1) in SMMC7721 and BEL-7402 cells were detected by western blot. It was found that the absolute configuration of AC is 19(s), 20(s)-Acetoxytabernosine. AC could induce apoptosis of SMMC7721 and BEL-7402, and block the replication of DNA in the G1 phase. Under the treatment of AC, the total protein expression of apoptosis-related proteins (Caspase9, Caspase3, and Parp-1) significantly decreased in SMMC7721 and BEL-7402. An ongoing randomized, double-blind, controlled phase 2 trial was conducted to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a mosaic-type recombinant vaccine candidate, named NVSI-06-09, as a booster dose in subjects aged 18 years and older from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who had administered two or three doses of inactivated vaccine BBIBP-CorV at least 6 months prior to enrollment. The participants were randomly assigned with 1:1 to receive a booster dose of NVSI-06-09 or BBIBP-CorV. The primary outcomes were immunogenicity and safety against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant, and the exploratory outcome was cross-immunogenicity against other circulating strains. Between May 25 and 30, 2022, 516 adults received booster vaccination with 260 in NVSI-06-09 group and 256 in BBIBP-CorV group. Interim results showed a similar safety profile between two booster groups, with low incidence of adverse reactions of grade 1 or 2. For immunogenicity, by day 14 post-booster, the fold rises in neutralizing antibody geometric mean titers (GMTs) from baseline elicited by NVSI-06-09 were remarkably higher than those by BBIBP-CorV against the prototype strain (19.67 vs 4.47-fold), Omicron BA.1.1 (42.35 vs 3.78-fold), BA.2 (25.09 vs 2.91-fold), BA.4 (22.42 vs 2.69-fold), and BA.5 variants (27.06 vs 4.73-fold). Similarly, the neutralizing GMTs boosted by NVSI-06-09 against Beta and Delta variants were also 6.60-fold and 7.17-fold higher than those by BBIBP-CorV. Our findings indicated that a booster dose of NVSI-06-09 was well-tolerated and elicited broad-spectrum neutralizing responses against divergent SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Omicron and its sub-lineages., (© 2022. Background: The microsurgical treatment of paraclinoid aneurysms can be challenging due to the anatomical structures that surround them., Objective: This study compared the clinical and angiographic outcomes of unruptured paraclinoid aneurysms treated with enterprise (EP) stents and low-profile visualized intraluminal support (LVIS) stents., Methods: A retrospective analysis of the clinical and radiological data from 133 patients with 139 unruptured paraclinoid aneurysms, who received an EP or an LVIS stent between January 2017 and June 2021 at Taizhou People's Hospital, was performed. Immediate postoperative and follow-up angiographic results were analyzed retrospectively using the Raymond-Roy occlusion classification (RROC). Any complications following the procedure and the patients' clinical outcomes were noted., Results: Enterprise stents were used for stent-assisted coiling in 64 patients with 68 aneurysms and LVIS stents were used in 69 patients with 71 aneurysms. Both groups exhibited an increase in the proportion of aneurysms meeting the criteria for RROC class I, but the LVIS group demonstrated a higher rate of aneurysms meeting the class I criteria compared with the EP group, both on immediate postoperative angiography (45.1% vs. 11.8%, p< 0.001) and on follow-up angiography (94.9% vs. 80.6%, p= 0.025). Procedure-related complications were experienced by 9.4% of patients in the EP group (one coil prolapse, two parent artery occlusions, and three thromboembolic events), and 8.7% of patients in the LVIS group (three stent-related thrombosis and three thromboembolic events). There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in relation to perioperative complications (p= 0.746) or favorable clinical outcomes (p= 0.492)., Conclusion: A greater proportion of aneurysms in the LVIS group met the criteria for RROC class I compared with the EP group. There is no significant difference in procedural complications or clinical outcomes between EP and LVIS stents. Although no aneurysm recurrence was observed during the short follow-up period, continued monitoring is required.

Fusing low dynamic range (LDR) for high dynamic range (HDR) images has gained a lot of attention, especially to achieve real-world application significance when the hardware resources are limited to capture images with different exposure times. However, existing HDR image generation by picking the best parts from each LDR image often yields unsatisfactory results due to either the lack of input images or well-exposed contents. To overcome this limitation, we model the HDR image generation process in two-exposure fusion as a deep reinforcement learning problem and learn an online compensating representation to fuse with LDR inputs for HDR image generation. Moreover, we build a two-exposure dataset with reference HDR images from a public multiexposure dataset that has not yet been normalized to train and evaluate the proposed model. By assessing the built dataset, we show that our reinforcement HDR image generation significantly outperforms other competing methods under different challenging scenarios, even with limited well-exposed contents. More experimental results on a no-reference multiexposure image dataset demonstrate the generality and effectiveness of the proposed model. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to use a reinforcement-learning-based framework for an online compensating representation in two-exposure image fusion.

Background: The impact of dietary trace elements intake on ovarian cancer (OC) severity is unknown., Objective: We firstly explore the relationship between dietary copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and copper-to-zinc (Cu/Zn) ratio and severity of OC., Methods: This cross-sectional study included 701 women from the OC follow-up study between 2015 and 2020. Dietary information was collected by a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The severity information of OC including age at diagnosis, histological type, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, and histopathologic grade was ascertained from medical records. Logistic regression model was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of aforementioned associations., Results: Among 701 participants, the number of patients age at diagnosis older than 50 were 443 (63.2%). The number of patients diagnosed as serous, III-IV stage, and poorly differentiation OC were 477 (68.05%), 336 (47.93%), and 597 (85.16%), respectively. In addition, compared with the lowest tertile intake, higher possibility of non-serous OC was associated with the pre-diagnosis dietary Cu (OR = 2.39, 95% CI = 1.28-4.47, p trend < 0.05) and Cu/Zn ratio (OR = 2.06, 95% CI = 1.26-3.39, P trend < 0.05) in the highest tertile intake. The risk of poorly differentiation OC at diagnosis was significant inversely related to dietary Cu intake (OR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.18-0.88, P trend < 0.05). Five compounds were isolated from the methanolic extract of Caesalpinia sinensis stems and leaves including a new cassane-type butenolide norditerpenoid compound ( 1 ) and a new type of biphenyl compound ( 2 ); the compounds were identified as Norcaesalpin-one ( 1 ), 4'-hexyl 3-methyl 6-methoxy-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3,4'-dicarboxylate ( 2 ), rhapontigenin ( 3 ), 3-deoxysappanchalcone ( 4 ), isoliquiritigenin ( 5 ). Compounds 1 - 5 were first isolated from C. sinensis . Their structures were elucidaded on the basis of MS, IR, NMR spectroscopic, X-ray diffraction data analyses. The NGF-induced PC12 differentiation assay was performed on compound 1 , and the results showed that compound 1 had a promotive effect on PC12 cell differentiation, with a differentiation rate of 12.32%. In addition, compounds 1 - 5 were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against four human cancer cell lines (including A-549, BGC-823, MDA-MB-231, HepG2), and the results showed that compounds 3 - 5 showed inhibitory activity against these cancer cell lines with IC 50 values ranging from 22.96 to 74.92 μmol/L, compound 4 showing the best activity against human malignant melanoma cells A375 with an IC 50 value of 22.96 μmol/L.

To study the antitumor activity of compound 3-desoxysulforaphane (3-DSC) isolated from Caesalpinia sinensis , SRB assay, clone formation assay, flow cytometric cell cycle assay, scratch assay, transwell assay, and molecular docking were used to investigate the inhibitory effect of 3-DSC on HeLa and PC3 cells. The results showed that 3-DSC inhibited the cell migration and invasion by down-regulating expression of N-cadherin, Vimentin, MMP-2, and MMP-9 in HeLa and PC3 cells; It also inhibits cell proliferation by promoting the expression of CDK1 (cyclin-dependent kinases 1) and CDK2 (cyclin-dependent kinases 2), which arrests the tumor cell cycle at G2 phase. 3-DSC inhibits phosphorylation of AKT and ERK and upregulates the expression of the tumor suppressor gene p53. Molecular docking results confirmed that 3-DSC could bind firmly to AKT. Objective: To investigate the efficacy of high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) combined with pulmonary surfactant (PS) in the treatment of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS)., Methods: This study is a retrospective clinical study. Seventy-two NRDS neonates were selected as the subjects from November 2019 to November 2020, and divided into observation group (40 cases, HFOV treatment) and control group (32 cases, conventional mechanical ventilation treatment). All cases were treated with PS and comprehensive treatment. The therapeutic effect, arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2), arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), Percentage of inhaled oxygen concentration (FiO2), mean arterialpressure, oxygenation index (OI), and complications were compared in the 2 groups., Results: The total effective rate of the observation group was 90.0%, significantly higher than that of the control group. After treatment, the observation group has higher PaO2 levels and lower levels of PaCO2, mean arterial pressure, FiO2, and OI than the control group. Two previously undescribed monoterpenoid quinoline alkaloids, namely melotenucadines A and B, together with four known analogs, were characterized from the stems and leaves of Melodinus tenuicaudatus. The structures of the new compounds were established by extensive MS and NMR spectroscopic methods, while the absolute configuration was conducted by ECD calculations. NVSI-06-08 is a potential broad-spectrum recombinant COVID-19 vaccine that integrates the antigens from multiple SARS-CoV-2 strains into a single immunogen. Here, we evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of NVSI-06-08 as a heterologous booster dose in BBIBP-CorV recipients in a randomized, double-blind, controlled, phase 2 trial conducted in the United Arab Emirates (NCT05069129). Three groups of healthy adults over 18 years of age (600 participants per group) who have administered two doses of BBIBP-CorV 4-6-month, 7-9-month and >9-month earlier, respectively, are randomized 1:1 to receive either a homologous booster of BBIBP-CorV or a heterologous booster of NVSI-06-08. The incidence of adverse reactions is low, and the overall safety profile is quite similar between two booster regimens. Both Neutralizing and IgG antibodies elicited by NVSI-06-08 booster are significantly higher than those by BBIBP-CorV booster against not only SARS-CoV-2 prototype strain but also multiple variants of concerns (VOCs). Especially, the neutralizing antibody GMT against Omicron variant induced by heterologous NVSI-06-08 booster reaches 367.67, which is substantially greater than that boosted by BBIBP-CorV (GMT: 45.03). In summary, NVSI-06-08 is safe and immunogenic as a booster dose following two doses of BBIBP-CorV, which is immunogenically superior to the homologous boost with another dose of BBIBP-CorV., (© 2022. The increased coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) breakthrough cases pose the need of booster vaccination. We conducted a randomised, double-blinded, controlled, phase 2 trial to assess the immunogenicity and safety of the heterologous prime-boost vaccination with an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine (BBIBP-CorV) followed by a recombinant protein-based vaccine (NVSI-06-07), using homologous boost with BBIBP-CorV as control. Three groups of healthy adults (600 individuals per group) who had completed two-dose BBIBP-CorV vaccinations 1-3 months, 4-6 months and ≥6 months earlier, respectively, were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either NVSI-06-07 or BBIBP-CorV boost. Immunogenicity assays showed that in NVSI-06-07 groups, neutralizing antibody geometric mean titers (GMTs) against the prototype SARS-CoV-2 increased by 21.01-63.85 folds on day 28 after vaccination, whereas only 4.20-16.78 folds of increases were observed in control groups. For Omicron variant, the neutralizing antibody GMT elicited by homologous boost was 37.91 on day 14, however, a significantly higher neutralizing GMT of 292.53 was induced by heterologous booster. Similar results were obtained for other SARS-CoV-2 variants of concerns (VOCs), including Alpha, Beta and Delta. Both heterologous and homologous boosters have a good safety profile. Local and systemic adverse reactions were absent, mild or moderate in most participants, and the overall safety was quite similar between two booster schemes. Microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) has recently become an intelligent and environmentally friendly method for repairing cracks in concrete. To improve on this ability of microbial materials concrete repair, we applied random mutagenesis and optimization of mineralization conditions to improve the quantity and crystal form of microbially precipitated calcium carbonate. Sporosarcina pasteurii ATCC 11859 was used as the starting strain to obtain the mutant with high urease activity by atmospheric and room temperature plasma (ARTP) mutagenesis. Next, we investigated the optimal biomineralization conditions and precipitation crystal form using Plackett-Burman experimental design and response surface methodology (RSM). Biomineralization with 0.73 mol/l calcium chloride, 45 g/l urea, reaction temperature of 45°C, and reaction time of 22 h, significantly increased the amount of precipitated calcium carbonate, which was deposited in the form of calcite crystals. Finally, the repair of concrete using the optimized biomineralization process was evaluated. A comparison of water absorption and adhesion of concrete specimens before and after repairs showed that concrete cracks and surface defects could be efficiently repaired. This study provides a new method to engineer biocementing material for concrete repair.

The recent advancements in interfacial evaporation of salty water using renewable solar energy provide one of the promising pathways to solve worldwide water scarcity. Pursuing a stable evaporation rate of water has been the central focus of this field, as it is directly related to the throughput, while salt deposition on the evaporator becomes a critical issue. Although Janus-structured evaporators with an upper hydrophobic layer and a bottom hydrophilic layer have been demonstrated as an effective way to suppress the salt precipitation, the hydrophobic upper layer, achieved usually by some special organic groups, suffers from a photochemical oxidation when exposed to oxidative chemicals in water and high-energy light, resulting in a deteriorated surface hydrophobicity. Here, we report our design of an efficient salt-rejecting Janus evaporator by taking advantage of the self-recovering surface hydrophobicity of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) against photochemical damages, which ensures a long-term surface hydrophobicity. With its upper layer partially covered with PDMS, the Janus evaporator demonstrates an excellent salt rejection capability and exhibits a stable evaporation rate of 1.38 kg·m -2 ·h -1 under 1 sun illumination for 400 min of continuous operation, or 90 d of intermittent work. By combining the advantages of high structural integration, long-term salt-rejection, and efficient evaporation, our Janus evaporator holds great promise for the stable production of clean water from seawater.

Healing after mammalian skin injury involves the interaction between numerous cellular constituents and regulatory factors, which together form three overlapping phases: an inflammatory response, a proliferation phase and a remodelling phase. Any slight variation in these three stages can substantially alter the healing process and resultant production of scars. Of particular significance are the mechanisms responsible for the scar-free phenomenon observed in the foetus. Uncovering such mechanisms would offer great expectations in the treatment of scars and therefore represents an important area of investigation. In this review, we provide a comprehensive summary of studies on injury-induced skin regeneration within the foetus. Background: Familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) is a rare autosomal recessive lipid disorder often associated with recurrent episodes of pancreatitis. It is documented in most cases with FCS due to the mutations of key proteins in lipolysis, including LPL, APOC2, APOA5, LMF1 and GPIHBP1., Case Presentation: We report the successful management of a 35-year-old pregnant woman carrying a novel homozygous frameshift mutation c.48&#95;49insGCGG (p.P17A fs*22) in the GPIHBP1 gene with previous severe episodes of acute pancreatitis triggered by pregnancy, resulting in adverse obstetrical outcomes. With careful monitoring, the patient underwent an uneventful pregnancy and delivered a baby with no anomalies., Conclusions: The case report contributes to the understanding of GPIHBP1-deficient familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) and highlights gestational management of FCS patient.

Currently, there is no effective treatment for Burkitt's lymphoma in patients aged above 60 years, and thus research on effective treatment options for Burkitt's lymphoma has been gaining increasing attention. Artesunate has been identified as a novel effective growth suppressor in Burkitt's lymphoma. Here, we utilized molecular biology, transcriptome analysis, and other techniques to study artesunate-induced death of the Burkitt's lymphoma cells DAUDI and CA-46, the effect of artesunate on gene expression in DAUDI and CA-46 cells, and the effect of artesunate-induced ATF4-CHOP-CHAC1 pathway on ferroptosis. We also studied the inhibitory effects and ferroptosis induction of artesunate on CA-46 cells in mouse xenografts. Results showed that artesunate induced ferroptosis in DAUDI and CA-46 cells, as evidenced by the protective effect of liproxstatin-1, ferrostatin-1, and desferoxamine, resulting in an endoplasmic reticulum stress response, activation of the ATF4-CHOP-CHAC1 pathway enhanced ferroptosis in DAUDI and CA-46 cells. A mouse-transplanted tumor model showed that artesunate can inhibit the proliferation and induce ferroptosis of CA-46 cells in vivo. Background: Aquaporin (AQP) proteins comprise a group of membrane intrinsic proteins (MIPs) that are responsible for transporting water and other small molecules, which is crucial for plant survival under stress conditions including salt stress. Despite the vital role of AQPs, little is known about them in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)., Results: In this study, we identified 39 aquaporin-encoding genes in cucumber that were separated by phylogenetic analysis into five sub-families (PIP, TIP, NIP, SIP, and XIP). Their substrate specificity was then assessed based on key amino acid residues such as the aromatic/Arginine (ar/R) selectivity filter, Froger's positions, and specificity-determining positions. The putative cis-regulatory motifs available in the promoter region of each AQP gene were analyzed and results revealed that their promoter regions contain many abiotic related cis-regulatory elements. Furthermore, analysis of previously released RNA-seq data revealed tissue- and treatment-specific expression patterns of cucumber AQP genes (CsAQPs). Three aquaporins (CsTIP1;1, CsPIP2;4, and CsPIP1;2) were the most transcript abundance genes, with CsTIP1;1 showing the highest expression levels among all aquaporins. Subcellular localization analysis in Nicotiana benthamiana epidermal cells revealed the diverse and broad array of sub-cellular localizations of CsAQPs. We then performed RNA-seq to identify the expression pattern of CsAQPs under salt stress and found a general decreased expression level of root CsAQPs. Moreover, qRT-PCR revealed rapid changes in the expression levels of CsAQPs in response to diverse abiotic stresses including salt, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-6000, heat, and chilling stresses. Additionally, transient expression of AQPs in N. benthamiana increased leaf water loss rate, suggesting their potential roles in the regulation of plant water status under stress conditions., Conclusions: Our results indicated that CsAQPs play important roles in response to salt stress. The genome-wide identification and primary function characterization of cucumber aquaporins provides insight to elucidate the complexity of the AQP gene family and their biological functions in cucumber.

We describe pLink 2, a search engine with higher speed and reliability for proteome-scale identification of cross-linked peptides. With a two-stage open search strategy facilitated by fragment indexing, pLink 2 is ~40 times faster than pLink 1 and 3~10 times faster than Kojak. Furthermore, using simulated datasets, synthetic datasets, 15 N metabolically labeled datasets, and entrapment databases, four analysis methods were designed to evaluate the credibility of ten state-of-the-art search engines. This systematic evaluation shows that pLink 2 outperforms these methods in precision and sensitivity, especially at proteome scales. Lastly, re-analysis of four published proteome-scale cross-linking datasets with pLink 2 required only a fraction of the time used by pLink 1, with up to 27% more cross-linked residue pairs identified. pLink 2 is therefore an efficient and reliable tool for cross-linking mass spectrometry analysis, and the systematic evaluation methods described here will be useful for future software development.

Salt stress is a major threat for plant growth worldwide. The regulatory mechanisms of silicon in alleviating salt stress have been widely studied using physiological, molecular genetics, and genomic approaches. Recently, progresses have been made in elucidating the alleviative effects of silicon in salt-induced osmotic stress, Na toxicity, and oxidative stress. In this review, we highlight recent development on the impact of silicon application on salt stress responses. Emphasis will be given to the following aspects. (1) Silicon transporters have been experimentally identified in different plant species and their structure feature could be an important molecular basis for silicon permeability. (2) Silicon could mediate salt-induced ion imbalance by (i) regulating Na + uptake, transport, and distribution and (ii) regulating polyamine levels. (3) Si-mediated upregulation of aquaporin gene expression and osmotic adjustment play important roles in alleviating salinity-induced osmotic stress. (4) Silicon application direct/indirectly mitigates oxidative stress via regulating the antioxidant defense and polyamine metabolism. (5) Omics studies reveal that silicon could regulate plants' response to salt stress by modulating the expression of various genes including transcription factors and hormone-related genes. Finally, research areas that require further investigation to provide a deeper understanding of the role of silicon in plants are highlighted.

The flexibility in structural design of organic semiconductors endows organic solar cells (OSCs) not only great function-tunabilities, but also high potential toward practical application. In this work, simple non-fused-ring electron acceptors are developed through two-step synthesis from single aromatic units for constructing efficient OSCs. With the assistance of non-covalent interactions, these rotatable non-fused acceptors (in solution) allow transiting into planar and stackable conformation in condensed solid, promoting acceptors not only feasible solution-processability, but also excellent film characteristics. As results, decent power conversion efficiencies of 10.27% and 13.97% can be achieved in single and tandem OSCs consisting of simple solution-cast blends, in which the fully unfused acceptors exhibit exceptionally low synthetic complexity index. In addition, the unfused acceptor and its based OSCs exhibit promising stabilities under continuous illumination. Overall, this work reveals valuable insights on the structural design of simple and effective electron acceptors with great practical perspectives.

The chemical constituents from methanol extract of Dichroa hirsuta were separated by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography,high pressure preparative liquid chromatography( HPLC) and recrystallization. Their structures were elucidated by NMR and MS. Nine compounds were obtained and their structures were identified as 3β,21α-O-diacetyl-lup-9( 11)-en-7β-ol( 1),( Z)-methyl p-hydroxycinnamate( 2),cis-p-coumaric acid ethyl ester( 3),( E)-methyl p-hydroxycinnamate( 4),trans-p-coumaric acid ethyl ester( 5),4( 3 H)-quinazolinone( 6),7-hydroxycoumarin( 7),hydrangenol( 8) and thunberginol C( 9). Compound 1 is a new lupane-type triterpenoid,and compounds 1-5,8-9 were firstly isolated from this plant. Dual reporter assay results showed that compounds 2-5 could activate the Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are 3'-5' head-to-tail covalently closed non-coding RNA that have been proved to play essential roles in many cellular and developmental processes. However, no information relate to cucumber circRNAs is available currently, especially under salt stress condition., Results: In this study, we sequenced circRNAs in cucumber and a total of 2787 were identified, with 1934 in root and 44 in leaf being differentially regulated under salt stress. Characteristics analysis of these circRNAs revealed following features: most of them are exon circRNAs (79.51%) and they prefer to arise from middle exon(s) of parent genes (2035/2516); moreover, most of circularization events (88.3%) use non-canonical-GT/AG splicing signals; last but not least, pairing-driven circularization is not the major way to generate cucumber circRNAs since very few circRNAs (18) contain sufficient flanking complementary sequences. Annotation and enrichment analysis of both parental genes and target mRNAs were launched to uncover the functions of differentially expressed circRNAs induced by salt stress. The results showed that circRNAs may be paly roles in salt stress response by mediating transcription, signal transcription, cell cycle, metabolism adaptation, and ion homeostasis related pathways. Moreover, circRNAs may function to regulate proline metabolisms through regulating associated biosynthesis and degradation genes., Conclusions: The present study identified large number of cucumber circRNAs and function annotation revealed their possible biological roles in response to salt stress. Our findings will lay a solid foundation for further structure and function studies of cucumber circRNAs.

Terpenes play an important role in plant-insect relationships, and these relationships can potentially be modified by altering the profile of terpenes emitted from plants using metabolic engineering methods. Transgenic plants generated by employing such methods offer the prospect of low-cost sustainable pest management; in this regard, we used chloroplast targeting and cytosolic mevalonic acid pathway enhancement in this study to investigate the interaction of santalenes and bergamotene with insects. The santalene- and bergamotene-emitting transgenic tobacco plants thus generated were utilized to study host preference in the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae (Sulzer)). The results showed that co-expression of either 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGR) or truncated HMGR with santalene synthase led to the production of higher amounts of santalenes and bergamotene in transgenic tobacco plants, and that these santalene- and bergamotene-emitting plants were attractive to green peach aphids. Good nutrition for infants, during the first 1000 days from conception, is one of the most important determinants of a healthy long life. Breastfeeding is the most important component of infant nutrition and reduces morbidity and mortality. With the changes to the climate currently occurring, issues of nutrition and food supply are only going to increase in importance. The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, place nutrition at the forefront of world development and a sustainable planet. The vision of Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) is to "achieve the highest possible level of health of all the people of the nations of the Asia-Pacific region." Much of the burden of disease, early deaths, and disability in the Asia Pacific region could be reduced with public health efforts to address the major risk factors, including nutrition-related causes and smoking. The United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition 2016-2025 has recently been launched with the aim of reducing the global burden of inappropriate nutrition. The goals include increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding to 6 months, reducing wasting and stunting, and reducing the rates of low birthweight. This is the position endorsed in these guidelines along with the principles of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative. These guidelines expand the information on infants that was included in the 2016 APACPH Dietary Guidelines. APACPH covers many different environments, geographical areas, cultures, and socioeconomic groups. These guidelines are generally applicable to all infants in our region, specific local advice may sometimes be needed.

Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), is one of the most devastating diseases of wheat. Resistant cultivars are the preferred strategy to control the disease. Space-induced wheat mutant R39 has adult-plant resistance (APR) to Pst. Genetic analysis indicated that a single recessive gene, designated YrR39, was responsible for the APR of R39 to Pst. Bulked segregant analysis (BSA) combined with a SLAF sequencing (SLAF-seq) strategy was used to fine-map YrR39 to a 17.39 Mb segment on chromosome 4B. The region was confirmed by analysis with simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. A total of 126 genes were annotated in the region and 21 genes with annotations associated with disease response were selected for further qRT-PCR analysis. The candidate gene Traes&#95;4BS&#95;C868349E1 (annotated as an F-box/LRR-repeat protein) was up-regulated after 12, 24, 48, and 96 hours post inoculation with Pst, suggesting it is likely involved in the resistance. The current study demonstrated that BSA combined with SLAF-seq for SNP discovery is an efficient approach for mapping and identifying candidate functional gene.

Objective: To systematically compare the differences in the detection rate of prostate cancer with fusion targeting biopsy and systemic biopsy. Methods: A computer-based search of PubMed, Medline, China Biomedical Literature Database and Wanfang database (from the beginning of establishment of library to October 2016) on the detection rate of prostate cancer by fusion targeting biopsy and systemic biopsy was performed manually.The inclusion and exclusion criteria were formulated by 2 reviewers, and the data were extracted and evaluated respectively. RevMan5.3 software was used to analyze the detection rate of prostate cancer by two biopsy methods. Results: A total of 15 related clinical studies were included, 5 337 cases were enrolled in the study, including 2 667 cases of targeted fusion biopsy and 2 670 cases of routine systemic biopsy. The results showed that the overall detection rate of prostate cancer in targeting fusion biopsy was significantly higher than that of conventional systemic biopsy ( OR =1.16, 95% CI 1.04-1.30, P =0.007). The detection rates of prostate cancer with different risk grades by two biopsy methods were conducted. We found that targeted fusion biopsy had a significant advantage compared with conventional system biopsy ( OR =1.37, 95% CI 1.19-1.58, P <0.05) in middle and high risk prostate cancer with Gleason ≥ 7 points. In low-risk prostate cancer patients with Gleason score <7, the detection rate of prostate cancer by targeted fusion biopsy was lower ( OR =0.76, 95% CI 0.65-0.89, P <0.05) than that of conventional systemic biopsy. Conclusions: Targeted fusion biopsy was significantly better than systemic biopsy in the overall detection rate of prostate cancer and the detection rate of the middle and high risk prostate cancer with Gleason ≥7 points. However, systemic biopsy performed better in patients with Gleason<7 points of low-risk prostate cancer.

Monoterpenes are important for plant survival and useful to humans. In addition to their function in plant defense, monoterpenes are also used as flavors, fragrances and medicines. Several metabolic engineering strategies have been explored to produce monoterpene in tobacco but only trace amounts of monoterpenes have been detected. We investigated the effects of Solanum lycopersicum 1-deoxy-d-xylulose-5-phosphate synthase (SlDXS), Arabidopsis thaliana geranyl diphosphate synthase 1 (AtGPS) and Mentha × piperita geranyl diphosphate synthase small subunit (MpGPS.SSU) on production of monoterpene and geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP) diversities, and plant morphology by transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana and overexpression in transgenic Nicotiana tabacum. We showed that MpGPS.SSU could enhance the production of various monoterpenes such as (-)-limonene, (-)-linalool, (-)-α-pinene/β-pinene or myrcene, in transgenic tobacco by elevating geranyl diphosphate synthase (GPS) activity. In addition, overexpression of MpGPS.SSU in tobacco caused early flowering phenotype and increased shoot branching by elevating contents of GA 3 and cytokinins due to upregulated transcript levels of several plastidic 2-C-methyl-d-erythritol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway genes, geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthases 3 (GGPPS3) and GGPPS4. Arabidopsis HSI2 (HIGH-LEVEL EXPRESSION OF SUGAR-INDUCIBLE GENE 2) which carries a EAR (ERF-associated amphiphilic repression) motif acts as a repressor of seed maturation genes and lipid biosynthesis, whereas MEDIATOR (MED) is a conserved multiprotein complex linking DNA-bound transcription factors to RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. How HSI2 executes its repressive function through MED is hitherto unknown. Here, we show that HSI2 and its homolog, HSI2-lik (HSL1), are able to form homo- and heterocomplexes. Both factors bind to the TRAP240 domain of MED13, a subunit of the MED CDK8 module. Mutant alleles of the med13 mutant show elevated seed maturation gene expression and increased lipid accumulation in cotyledons; in contrast, HSI2- or MED13-overexpressing plants display the opposite phenotypes. The overexpression phenotypes of HSI2 and MED13 are abolished in med13 and hsi2 hsl1, respectively, indicating that HSI2 and MED13 together are required for these functions. The HSI2 C-terminal region interacts with HDA6, whose overexpression also reduces seed maturation gene expression and lipid accumulation. Moreover, HSI2, MED13 and HDA6 bind to the proximal promoter and 5'-coding regions of seed maturation genes. Taken together, our results suggest that HSI2 recruits MED13 and HDA6 to suppress directly a subset of seed maturation genes post-germination., (© The Author 2016.
