Yue Opera holds the distinction of being the second largest opera in China and is celebrated as the country's second National opera. This study aims to examine education and literacy of historical development in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China. Through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing musicology and ethnomusicology it investigates the historical development, cultural contexts, and artistic characteristics of Chinese Yue Opera. The research methodology involves conducting interviews with key informants who have extensive experience and expertise in Chinese Yue Opera, as well as observing live performances. The collected data is analyzed and interpreted in accordance with existing literature and theoretical principles. The findings of the study trace the evolution of Chinese Yue Opera from its origins as a rap art form to an opera prototype, and its subsequent development into the "Small Song Class" and "Shaoxing Opera." The comprehensive examination of the cultural and artistic aspects of education and literacy in Chinese Yue Opera provides valuable insights into this traditional Chinese opera genre. The study sheds light on its historical significance, artistic expressions, and cultural heritage. This research enriches our understanding and deepens our appreciation of the distinctive artistry encapsulated within Chinese Yue Opera.

Abstract Background Exercise is increasingly being promoted as an effective treatment for primary dysmenorrhea (PD). This study aims to conduct a comprehensive network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized controlled trials to identify the optimal types and dosages of exercise for managing PD in women. Methods Adhering to PRISMA-NMA guidelines, we systematically reviewed RCTs from the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, and Embase databases up to May 23, 2024. Data analysis was performed using ‘GEMTC’ and ‘BUGSnet’ packages within a Bayesian framework in R and a hierarchy of exercise treatments was also calculated using surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) values. Subgroup analyses were conducted to identify the most effective exercise regimens, including duration, frequency, and volume of the exercise interventions. Results Forty-nine studies representing 3,129 participants (1,640 exercises and 1,489 controls) were included. The results showed that all exercise interventions significantly reduced menstrual pain of the PD patients. Of six exercise intervention modalities based on the study ranked effectiveness, statistically significant reductions in pain intensity were found for resistance exercise and multi-component exercise. Multi-component exercise and stretching exercise were ranked best for menstrual symptoms, while core-strengthening exercise and multi-component exercise had the greatest impact on reducing pain duration. Significant and clinically important reductions or reliefs in pain occurred with 4 to 8 weeks of exercise training from all exercises, with resistance exercise showing the best efficacy when the duration exceeded 8 weeks, followed by multi-component exercise and mind-body exercise. Multi-component exercise and aerobic exercise with 1 to 3 sessions per week induced greater benefit in performance improvements, while resistance exercise with increased frequency showed the enhanced performance. Resistance exercise could elicit better efficacy within` 30-minute training duration, and multi-component exercise was ranked the best if such a training over 30 min. Conclusion This study provided quantitative insight into efficacy and effectiveness of exercise interventions on PD treatments. All six different exercises are associated with positive influence on PD management. Our study indicates that this exercise training induced adaptation may have therapeutic benefits for PD patients; however, such alterations and improvements are affected by exercise regiments.

The structures and properties of the composite films formed by soy protein isolate (SPI) and xanthan gum (XG) with different other matrices were investigated. The composite films were prepared with SPI and XG by adding sodium alginate (SA), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), gelatin (GEL), pectin (PEC) and agar (Agar), respectively. The thickness, mechanical properties, oxygen permeability and opacity of the composite films were measured, and their structures were characterized. Abstract Background Mango is a tropical fruit with high economic value. The selection of suitable dwarf mango varieties is an important aspect of mango breeding. However, the mechanisms that regulate mango dwarfing remain unclear. Results In this study, we compared the transcriptomes and metabolomes of mango varieties Guiqi (a dwarfed variety) and Jinhuang (an arborized variety). A total of 4,954 differentially expressed genes and 317 differentially abundant metabolites were identified between the two varieties, revealing the molecular mechanism of the gibberellin 3β-hydroxylase gene GA3ox in regulating dwarfing traits in mangoes using joint transcriptome and metabolome analyses. The results showed that differentially expressed genes were enriched in the diterpenoid biosynthesis pathway and that differentially abundant metabolites were annotated to their upstream pathway, the terpenoid backbone biosynthesis. A gene regulation network based on these two pathways was constructed, indicating the upregulation of the GA3ox gene and the accumulation of gibberellin in dwarfed mangoes. We then transferred the GA3ox gene to tobacco plants following the application of gibberellin, and the morphology and height of the transgenic tobacco plants largely recovered the phenotype. Conclusions These results demonstrated that GA3ox plays a role in the regulation of dwarf traits. Our study provides an important theoretical basis for studying the regulatory mechanisms underlying mango dwarfism to facilitate mango breeding.

Abstract Background This study was aimed at investigating the correlation between the occurrence of stroke and relative fat mass (RFM), a novel metric for determining total body fat. Methods This cross-sectional study employed the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset, which encompassed the years 2005 to 2018 to assess the independent relationship between RFM and stroke. Moreover, multinomial logistic regression, subgroup analysis, smooth curve fitting, and interaction testing were also used. Results This study included 35,842 participants and 1,267 (3.53%) of them were diagnosed with stroke. Fully adjusted Models showed that RFM was positively associated with stroke (odds ratio [OR] = 1.02; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.01–1.03). The odds of having a stroke in quartile 4 were significantly elevated by 44%, compared to quartile 1 (OR = 1.44,95%CI:1.09–1.90). Abstract The incidence rate of chronic heart failure has increased significantly in China and has a large impact on patients’ lives. The purpose of the study was to validate the Chronic Heart Failure Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire (CHFQOLQ-20) cross-culturally and test its reliability and validity in patients with chronic heart failure. This study was conducted by investigating 622 patients with chronic heart failure from August 2023 to January 2024, and the data were tested for validity using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0. The final psychometric validation of the CHFQOLQ-20 was performed. The Chinese version of the CHFQOLQ-20 had a Cronbach’s α of 0.908, a split-half reliability of 0.870, and a retest reliability of 0.892. An exploratory factor analysis yielded four common factors with a cumulative ANOVA of 59.355%, and the validated factor analysis with one correction resulted in a better-fitting model (χ2/df = 2.020, RMSEA = 0.057, CFI = 0.920, TLI = 0.907). The scale is a reliable assessment tool that can be used in future clinical practice.

Abstract Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a severe complication after joint replacement surgery that demands precise diagnosis for effective treatment. We enhanced PJI diagnostic accuracy through three steps: (1) developing a self-supervised PJI model with DINO v2 to create a large dataset; (2) comparing multiple intelligent models to identify the best one; and (3) using the optimal model for visual analysis to refine diagnostic practices. The self-supervised model generated 27,724 training samples and achieved a perfect AUC of 1, indicating flawless case differentiation. EfficientNet v2-S outperformed CAMEL2 at the image level, while CAMEL2 was superior at the patient level. By using the weakly supervised PJI model to adjust diagnostic criteria, we reduced the required high-power field diagnoses per slide from five to three. These findings demonstrate AI’s potential to improve the accuracy and standardization of PJI pathology and have significant implications for infectious disease diagnostics.

Abstract Bitter gourd wilt, a severe vascular disease triggered by the soilborne pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. momordicae (FOM), markedly constrains bitter gourd yield. In this study, a novel strain BF19 of Brevibacillus brevis was isolated and identified, exhibiting strong antimicrobial activity against FOM through in vivo and in vitro experiments. To comprehensively assess the biocontrol potential of strain BF19, we conducted phenotypic, phylogenetic, and comparative genomics analyses. Phenotypic analysis revealed that BF19 exhibited 53.33% biocontrol efficacy and significantly increased the average plant height, root fresh weight, and dry weight. Whole-genome sequencing and comparative genomic analysis revealed numerous potential genes associated with biocontrol mechanisms in BF19. Importantly, the integration of metabolic cluster prediction with liquid chromatography‒tandem mass spectrometry (LC‒MS/MS) revealed the presence of a macrobrevin antibiotic, a product of polyketide synthases (PKSs), predominantly in BF19 fermentation products. The effectiveness of the Br. brevis strain BF19 and its crude extract against bitter gourd wilt has also been confirmed. This study provides a genetic framework for future investigations on PKSs and establishes a scientific basis for optimizing field applications of microbial biopesticides derived from Br. brevis BF19.

Abstract Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) oblique photogrammetry has been extensively employed in mining, albeit predominantly for reconstructing three-dimensional scenes and detecting changes within mining sites, lacking predictive capabilities. Leveraging 3D real scene model data, this study presents a two-stage prediction model, merging the probabilistic integral method with recurrent neural network (PIMF-RNN), to mitigate the impact of internal and external factors on surface subsidence, thereby enhancing predictive accuracy. Building upon this framework, a methodology was developed to forecast the maximum surface subsidence height and affected area under the block caving method, offering crucial data support for mitigating hazards associated with this mining technique. Analysis of surface data from Pulang copper mine during 2018–2020 demonstrates a prediction accuracy of 91.47% for maximum surface subsidence height and 87.52% for subsidence area. This research expands the potential applications of UAV oblique photogrammetry techniques within mining contexts. Furthermore, it establishes a cost-effective and efficient operational procedure for predicting mine surface subsidence.

Abstract Background Hyperuricaemia is common among obese children and adolescents, and is closely related to insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to explore the relationships between youth insulin resistance and hyperuricaemia, as well as their relationships with lifestyle factors in youths, to provide early guidance on the risk factors for hyperuricaemia in adolescents. Methods This study included 233 adolescents aged 10 to 20 years. Insulin resistance was evaluated via the homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) method. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to assess the associations of HOMA-IR with hyperuricaemia status and serum uric acid (UA) levels. The participants were subsequently divided into two groups, the noninsulin resistant group (HOMA-IR ≤ 3.2) and the insulin resistant group (HOMA-IR > 3.2), to further explore the factors that may affect the serum UA level. Finally, the predictive ability of different indicators of hyperuricaemia was evaluated via the ROC curve. Apple tree canker is a serious disease caused by species of Cytospora. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is one of the most important apple-producing areas in China. However, losses due to apple Cytospora canker have seriously damaged the apple industry and affected the economic development of the apple growers in this region. In this study, we used morphological characteristics combined with multilocus phylogenetic analyses of the ITS, act, rpb2, tef1 and tub2 loci to identify isolates from apple (Malus domestica) and wild apple (M. sieversii). As a result, C. hippophaopsis sp. nov. from M. sieversii and C. shawanensis sp. nov. from M. domestica were discovered and proposed herein. Pathogenicity tests were further conducted on 13 varieties of apple and wild apple, which confirmed C. hippophaopsis and C. shawanensis as canker pathogens. Meanwhile, C. hippophaopsis is generally more aggressive than C. shawanensis on the tested varieties of apple and wild apple.

Background A rapid expansion of study on platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has gained more attention in the subject. In this study, bibliometrics were used to assess the outputs and trends of relevant PRF studies. An in-depth analysis of the publication patterns and progress in PRF research worldwide was conducted for the purpose of filling in this research gap.

Globally, obesity has become the fifth leading risk factor for death, and discoverying prebiotics with preventive and therapeutic effects on obesity is a hot topic in current research. Marine polysaccharides, a special class of bioactive substances from marine organisms, have novel structural features and unique bioactivities due to the unique environment of the ocean. Marine polysaccharides have an excellent potential to treat obesity by regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, inflammatory factor levels, and the gut microbiota. This article reviews the types of marine polysaccharides, the effects of their structures and compositions on their antiobesity activity, and the underlying mechanisms of action. With the aim of providing a basis for the development of antiobesity drugs using marine polysaccharides, the article focuses on discussing the signaling pathways by which marine polysaccharides inhibit obesity through the gut microbiota, and gives an outlook on the application of marine polysaccharides for obesity inhibition.

Abstract LiDAR systems that rely on classical signals are susceptible to intercept-and-recent spoofing attacks, where a target attempts to avoid detection. To address this vulnerability, we propose a quantum-secured LiDAR protocol that utilizes Gaussian modulated coherent states for both range determination and spoofing attack detection. By leveraging the Gaussian nature of the signals, the LiDAR system can accurately determine the range of the target through cross-correlation analysis. Additionally, by estimating the excess noise of the LiDAR system, the spoofing attack performed by the target can be detected, as it can introduce additional noise to the signals. We have developed a model for target ranging and security check, and conducted numerical simulations to evaluate the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) of the LiDAR system. The results indicate that an intercept-and-recent spoofing attack can be detected with a high probability at a low false-alarm rate. Furthermore, the proposed method can be implemented using currently available technology, highlighting its feasibility and practicality in real-world applications.

Abstract Background Loss-of-function mutations of ZBTB24 cause immunodeficiency, centromeric instability, and facial anomalies syndrome 2 (ICF2). ICF2 is a rare autosomal recessive disorder with immunological defects in serum antibodies and circulating memory B cells, resulting in recurrent and sometimes fatal respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. The genotype–phenotype correlation in patients with ICF2 indicates an essential role of ZBTB24 in the terminal differentiation of B cells. Methods We used the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPER)/Cas9 technology to generate B cell specific Zbtb24-deficient mice and verified the deletion specificity and efficiency by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Q-PCR) and western blotting analyses in fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS)-sorted cells. The development, phenotype of B cells and in vivo responses to T cell dependent or independent antigens post immunization were analyzed by flow cytometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Adoptive transfer experiment in combination with in vitro cultures of FACS-purified B cells and RNA-Seq analysis were utilized to specifically determine the impact of Zbtb24 on B cell biology as well as the underlying mechanisms. Results Zbtb24 is dispensable for B cell development and maintenance in naive mice. Surprisingly, B cell specific deletion of Zbtb24 does not evidently compromise germinal center reactions and the resulting primary and secondary antibody responses induced by T cell dependent antigens (TD-Ags), but significantly inhibits T cell independent antigen-elicited antibody productions in vivo. At the cellular level, Zbtb24-deficiency specifically impedes the plasma cell differentiation of B1 cells without impairing their survival, activation and proliferation in vitro. Mechanistically, Zbtb24-ablation attenuates heme biosynthesis partially through mTORC1 in B1 cells, and addition of exogenous hemin abrogates the differentiation defects of Zbtb24-null B1 cells. Conclusions Zbtb24 seems to regulate antibody responses against TD-Ags B cell extrinsically, but it specifically promotes the plasma cell differentiation of B1 cells via heme synthesis in mice. Our study also suggests that defected B1 functions contribute to recurrent infections in patients with ICF2.

Abstract Background Glucose fluctuations may be involved in the pathophysiological process of cardiomyocyte apoptosis, but the exact mechanism remains elusive. This study focused on exploring the mechanisms related to glucose fluctuation-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Methods Diabetic rats established via an injection of streptozotocin were randomized to five groups: the controlled diabetic (CD) group, the uncontrolled diabetic (UD) group, the glucose fluctuated diabetic (GFD) group, the GFD group rats with the injection of 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl) (GFD + NaCl) and the GFD group rats with the injection of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) (GFD + NAC). Twelve weeks later, cardiac function and apoptosis related protein expressions were tested. Proteomic analysis was performed to further analyze the differential protein expression pattern of CD and GFD. Results The left ventricular ejection fraction levels and fractional shortening levels were decreased in the GFD group, compared with those in the CD and UD groups. Positive cells tested by DAB-TUNEL were increased in the GFD group, compared with those in the CD group. The expression of Bcl-2 was decreased, but the expressions of Bax, cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved caspase-9 were increased in response to glucose fluctuations. Compared with CD, there were 527 upregulated and 152 downregulated proteins in GFD group. Txnip was one of the differentially expressed proteins related to oxidative stress response. The Txnip expression was increased in the GFD group, while the Akt phosphorylation level was decreased. The interaction between Txnip and Akt was enhanced when blood glucose fluctuated. Moreover, the application of NAC partially reversed glucose fluctuations-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Conclusions Glucose fluctuations lead to cardiomyocyte apoptosis by up-regulating Txnip expression and enhancing Txnip-Akt interaction.

Abstract Background Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) is a highly contagious disease caused by Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV), resulting in a mortality rate of suckling piglets as high as 100%. Vaccination is the primary strategy for controlling PEDV infection, however, there is currently a lack of reliable methods for assessing the efficacy of vaccination. This study aimed to analyze serum and colostrum samples from 75 parturient sows with a specific vaccination strategy to measure levels of IgG, IgA, and neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) against PEDV, and to investigate the correlation between serum and colostrum antibody levels, as well as to identify potential biomarkers that can be used to evaluate immunization effects under field conditions. Results The findings of correlation analysis between antibody levels of IgA, IgG, and nAbs in serum or colostrum samples revealed that IgG demonstrated the most robust correlation with nAbs exhibiting a correlation coefficient of 0.64 in serum samples. Conversely, IgA exhibited the highest correlation with nAbs, with a correlation coefficient of 0.47 in colostrum samples. Additionally, the correlation analysis of antibody levels between serum and colostrum samples indicated that serum IgA displayed the strongest correlation with colostrum IgA, with a coefficient of 0.63, indicating that serum IgA may serve as a viable alternative indicator for evaluating IgA levels in colostrum samples. To further evaluate the suitability of serum IgA as a substitute marker for colostrum IgA, levels of IgA antibodies in serum samples from sows were examined both pre- and post-parturition. The findings indicated that serum IgA levels were initially low prior to the initial immunization, experienced a notable rise 21 days after immunization, and maintained a significant elevation compared to pre-immunization levels from 21 days pre-parturition to 14 days postpartum, spanning a total of 35 days. Conclusions Serum anti-PEDV IgA antibody levels may serve as a valuable predictor for immunization effects, allowing for the assessment of colostrum IgA antibody levels up to 21 days in advance. This insight could enable veterinarians to timely adjust or optimize immunization strategies prior to parturition, thereby ensuring adequate passive immunity is conferred to piglets through colostral transfer postpartum.

In the current study, the corrosion behavior of HSLA-65 steel was investigated in a simulated marine environment inoculated with P. aeruginosa. In the electrochemical measurements, the negative shift in OCP, lower values of corrosion potential, pitting potential, and increased corrosion current density of the HSLA-65 steel in the biotic medium signified its low corrosion resistance in the presence of P. aeruginosa. The observation of the surface morphology revealed biofilm formation on the steel surface in the P. aeruginosa-inoculated culture medium, which significantly accelerated the pitting corrosion of the steel. The pit observed on the steel surface in the biotic medium was about 3.9 times deeper than in the sterile medium. In addition, the weight loss of the steel in the biotic medium was about 2.4 times higher compared to that in the sterile medium. These findings suggest that the P. aeruginosa biofilm significantly accelerated the corrosion of HSLA-65 steel in the simulated marine environment.

ABSTRACT: Objectives: A Salmonella enterica subsp. diarizonae (hereafter S. diarizonae) clinical strain S499 demonstrated unique genomic features. The strain S499 was treated with polymyxin B in vitro to investigate the mechanism of resistance. Methods: S499 was treated with polymyxin B by increasing concentration gradually to obtain a resistant mutant S499V. Whole genomes of the two strains were sequenced using Illumina HiSeq X-10 and PacBio RS II platforms. Reverse transcription–quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was performed to compare the gene expression. Results: The chromosome of strain S499 contained a 40-kb DNA region that was replicated after treatment with polymyxin B and generated a triple tandem DNA repeat region in the chromosome of mutant strain S499V. This repeat region in S499V was flanked by IS1 and contained pmrD, pmrG, and arnBCADTEF operon. In comparison to the homologous 40-kb DNA region of strain S499, a few genes in the repeat DNA region of strain S499V contained truncating mutations that generate two open reading frames (ORFs). The expression of pmrD, pmrG, and arnT was significantly upregulated in S499V. Conclusion: The duplication and overexpression of pmrD, pmrG, and arnT operon may be responsible for the polymyxin B resistance of mutant strain S499V.

Vitamin B12 is a complex compound synthesized by microorganisms. The industrial production of vitamin B12 relies on specific microbial fermentation processes. E. coli has been utilized as a host for the de novo biosynthesis of vitamin B12, incorporating approximately 30 heterologous genes. However, a metabolic imbalance in the intricate pathway significantly limits vitamin B12 production. In this study, we employed multivariate modular metabolic engineering to enhance vitamin B12 production in E. coli by manipulating two modules comprising a total of 10 genes within the vitamin B12 biosynthetic pathway. These two modules were integrated into the chromosome of a chassis cell, regulated by T7, J23119, and J23106 promoters to achieve combinatorial pathway optimization. The highest vitamin B12 titer was attained by engineering the two modules controlled by J23119 and T7 promoters. The inclusion of yeast powder to the fermentation medium increased the vitamin B12 titer to 1.52 mg/L. This enhancement was attributed to the effect of yeast powder on elevating the oxygen transfer rate and augmenting the strain's isopropyl-β-d-1-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) tolerance. Ultimately, vitamin B12 titer of 2.89 mg/L was achieved through scaled-up fermentation in a 5-liter fermenter. The strategies reported herein will expedite the development of industry-scale vitamin B12 production utilizing E. coli.

Objective: Personality traits are commonly used to explain individual differences in procrastinatory behavior. This study aims to examine the relationship between bedtime procrastination (BP) and personality traits, and to understand the role of self-regulation skills in this relationship. Participants: We recruited 294 college students. Methods: Data were collected through standardized questionnaires to evaluate BP, personality traits, and self-control (a main indicator of self-regulation skills). Results: Correlation analysis showed that BP was positively correlated with the psychoticism and neuroticism dimensions of Eysenck's personality. Hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling analyses further revealed that psychoticism and neuroticism predicted BP directly and indirectly via self-control. Conclusions: BP has a significant relationship with Eysenck's personality traits, particularly, with some dimensions that directly and indirectly predict BP through self-regulation skills. Therefore, individualized intervention strategies based on personality traits and self-regulation skills should be integrated in measures used to reduce BP behaviors among college students.

This study aimed to examine the unique longitudinal role of theory of mind (ToM) on reading comprehension among primary school children, while controlling for other influencing factors. It also examined how this impact varies by grade, text genre, and processing level. A sample of 430 Chinese children in Grades 2, 4, and 6 was observed over a period of 6 months. For each grade, longitudinal hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to examine the unique contribution of ToM to reading comprehension across different text genres and processing levels. By controlling for variables such as reading frequency, decoding, vocabulary, nonverbal intelligence, listening comprehension, and executive function, ToM cannot predict the overall reading comprehension of children in Grade 2, but can predict it of children in Grades 4 and 6. For specific text genres, ToM predicted narrative comprehension in both Grades 4 and 6 and expository comprehension only in Grade 6. For specific processing levels, ToM predicted advanced comprehension in Grades 4 and 6 and basic comprehension only in Grade 6. Furthermore, ToM predicted advanced narrative and expository comprehension in Grades 4 and 6, and basic expository comprehension in Grade 6. These findings highlight the important role of ToM in reading comprehension development, particularly in the middle and upper stages of primary school. These results lay the foundation for further research on exploring the underlying mechanisms of the impact of ToM on reading comprehension and provide a social-cognitive perspective to enhance the development of reading comprehension.

Abstract Objective Paracidovorax avenae (Pa) is the causative agent of red stripe disease in sugarcane and belongs to the Gram-negative β-Proteobacteria. Red stripe is a major bacterial disease of sugarcane worldwide. Limited genome sequences of Pa can be used for exploring the phylogenetic and genetic diversity analysis in this pathogen at the complete genome level. In this study, a whole genome sequence of Pa CNGX08 strain isolated from sugarcane in China was assembled and annotated. Data description Genome assembly data from second- and third-generation sequencing revealed that the entire genomic sequence of Pa CNGX08 strain causing red stripe in sugarcane, consisted of a 5,625,582 bp circular chromosome with a GC content of 68.97%. In total, 4,915 protein-coding genes were annotated. Additionally, 9 ribosomal RNAs and 52 transfer RNAs were identified. This genomic resource will facilitate the genome-based taxonomic classification of the genus Paracidovorax and the exploration of pathogenic mechanisms underlying sugarcane red stripe disease caused by Pa.

The latest review published in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery by Michael W. AIM: To present a technique of transcapsular scleral fixation of the standard capsular tension ring (CTR) through equatorial capsulotomy and in-the-bag intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in subluxated lenses. METHODS: This retrospective consecutive case series included patients with subluxated lenses by more than 180 degrees who underwent lens extraction, transcapsular scleral fixation of the standard CTR through equatorial capsulotomy, in-the-bag IOL implantation and with at least 6mo follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), complications, and postoperative IOL tilt and decentration were recorded. RESULTS: Nine eyes of 7 patients with a mean follow-up of 11.0±3.7mo were included in this study. AIM: To establish an animal model of form deprivation amblyopia based on a simulated cataract intraocular lens (IOLs). METHODS: Poly(dimethyl siloxane)-SiO2 thin films (PSF) with different degrees of opacity as IOL materials were prepared. The light transmission of the PSF-IOL was measured, and its in vitro biosafety was determined by cell counting kit (CCK)-8 assay using the HLEC-B3 cell line and ARPE-19 cell line. Subsequently, the in vivo safety was determined by implanting the PSF-IOL with 10% wt SiO2 into the right eyes of New Zealand white rabbits (PSF-IOL group), and compared with two control groups: contralateral comparison group and normal control (NC) group (Contralateral comparison group: the fellow eye; NC group: a group of binocular normal rabbits without intervention). The flash visual-evoked potentials (F-VEPs) were measured to verify amblyopia. RESULTS: PSFs containing 0, 2%, and 10% wt SiO2 were successfully constructed. The 0 SiO2 PSF was transparent, while the 10% wt SiO2 PSF was completely opaque. It was found that PSF did not induce unwanted cytotoxicity in HLECs and ARPE19 cells in vitro. In vitro, PSF-IOL with 10% wt SiO2 was also non-toxic, and no significant inflammation or structural changes occurred after four weeks of PSF-IOL implantation. Finally, our IOL-simulated congenital cataract rabbit detected by F-VEPs suggested tentative amblyopia. CONCLUSION: A PSF-IOL that mimics cataracts is created. A novel form deprivation model is created by the IOL-simulated congenital cataract rabbit. It can be developed fast and stable and holds great potential for future study.

Abstract Objectives Patients undergoing a prior failed attempt of chronic total occlusion‐percutaneous coronary intervention (CTO‐PCI) represent a challenging subgroup across all patients undergoing CTO‐PCI. There are limited data on the effects of a prior failed attempt on the outcomes of subsequent CTO‐PCI. We aimed to compare the procedural results and 24‐month outcomes of prior‐failed‐attempt CTO‐PCI with those of initial‐attempt CTO‐PCI. Methods Patients who underwent attempted CTO‐PCI between January 2017 and December 2019 were prospectively enrolled. We analyzed the procedural results and 24‐month major adverse cardiac events (MACE) between patients who underwent prior‐failed‐attempt and initial‐attempt CTO‐PCI. MACE was defined as a composite of cardiac death, target vessel‐related myocardial infarction, and ischemia‐driven target vessel revascularization (TVR) during follow‐up. Results In total, 484 patients who underwent CTO‐PCI (prior‐failed‐attempt, n = 49; initial‐attempt, n = 435) were enrolled during the study period. After propensity score matching (1:3), 147 patients were included in the initial‐attempt group. A perfect directed code (or an efficient twin domination) of a digraph is a vertex subset where every other vertex in the digraph has a unique in- and a unique out-neighbor in the subset. In this paper, we show that a digraph covers a complete digraph if and only if the vertex set of this digraph can be partitioned into perfect directed codes. Equivalent conditions for subsets in Cayley digraphs to be perfect directed codes are given. Especially, equivalent conditions for normal subsets, normal subgroups, and subgroups to be perfect directed codes in Cayley digraphs are given. Moreover, we show that every subgroup of a finite group is a perfect directed code for a transversal Cayley digraph.

Abstract In recent years, museums have become valuable venues for students to develop career awareness outside of school. However, optimizing the educational potential of museums and improving learners’ outcomes presents a significant challenge in museum learning design. This study integrates three main game elements—goals, stories, and role-playing—into museum visits to design a Gamified Learning Activity (GLA). To verify the effectiveness of the GLA, we conducted a quasi-experiment with 66 elementary school students at the Handicraft Museum. Using a mixed-methods approach with convergent parallel design, we collected quantitative data from knowledge tests and qualitative data from DAST (Draw-a-Scientist-Test) and interviews for a comprehensive analysis. The results showed that learners who participated in the GLA paid more attention to the details of the handicrafts, appreciated the craftsmen more, and eliminated stereotypes about the age of craftsmen. This indicates that the GLA not only enhances learners’ acquisition of museum knowledge but also has a profound impact on their non-cognitive aspects, such as career awareness.

Abstract Background Mitochondrial tRNA (mt-tRNA) variants have been found to cause disease. Post-transcriptional queuosine (Q) modifications of mt-tRNA can promote efficient mitochondrial mRNA translation. Q modifications of mt-tRNAAsn have recently been identified. Here, the therapeutic effectiveness of queuine was investigated in cells from patients with mt-tRNAAsn variants. Methods Six patients (from four families) carrying mt-tRNAAsn variants were included in the study. Queuine levels were quantified by mass spectrometry. Clinical, genetic, histochemical, biochemical, and molecular analysis was performed on muscle tissues and lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) from patients to investigate the pathogenicity of the novel m.5708 C > T variant. The use of queuine in mitigating mitochondrial dysfunction resulting from the mt-tRNAAsn variants was evaluated. Results The variants included the m.5701 delA, m.5708 C > T, m.5709 C > T, and m.5698 G > A variants in mt-tRNAAsn. The pathogenicity of the novel m.5708 C > T variant was confirmed, as demonstrated by a decreased steady-state level of mt-tRNAAsn, mtDNA-encoded protein levels, oxygen consumption rate (OCR), and the respiratory complex activity. Notably, the serum queuine level was significantly reduced in these patients and in vitro queuine supplementation was found to restore the reductions in mitochondrial protein activities, mitochondrial membrane potential, OCR, and increases in reactive oxygen species. Conclusions The study not only confirmed the pathogenicity of the m.5708 C > T variant but also explored the therapeutic potential of queuine in individuals with mt-tRNAAsn variants. The recognition of the novel m.5708 C > T variant’s pathogenic nature contributes to our comprehension of mitochondrial disorders. Furthermore, the results emphasize queuine supplementation as a promising approach to enhance the stability of mt-tRNAAsn and rescue mitochondrial dysfunction caused by mt-tRNAAsn variants, indicating potential implications for the development of targeted therapies for patients with mt-tRNAAsn variants.

Abstract We derive the exact solutions for electrically charged black holes both in the absence and presence of a cosmological constant in the gravitational theory with Lorentz violation induced by a background Kalb–Ramond (KR) field. The corresponding thermodynamic properties are investigated. It is found that the standard first law of thermodynamics and the Smarr formula remain valid for the charged KR black holes. Nevertheless, the Lorentz-violating effect influences their ranges of local thermodynamic stability and the first- and second-order phase transition points. Furthermore, to examine the impact of Lorentz violation on the motion of test particles in the spacetime, we analyze the shadow and the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of these black holes. Our results reveal that both the shadow and ISCO radii exhibit a high sensitivity to the Lorentz-violating parameter $$\ell $$ ℓ , with a decrease observed as $$\ell $$ ℓ increases.

Abstract Salmonella, the prevailing zoonotic pathogen within the Enterobacteriaceae family, holds the foremost position in global bacterial poisoning incidents, thereby signifying its paramount importance in public health. Consequently, the imperative for expeditious and uncomplicated detection techniques for Salmonella in food is underscored. After more than two decades of development, loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) has emerged as a potent adjunct to the polymerase chain reaction, demonstrating significant advantages in the realm of isothermal amplification. Its growing prominence is evident in the increasing number of reports on its application in the rapid detection of Salmonella. This paper provides a systematic exposition of the technical principles and characteristics of LAMP, along with an overview of the research progress made in the rapid detection of Salmonella using LAMP and its derivatives. Additionally, the target genes reported in various levels, including Salmonella genus, species, serogroup, and serotype, are summarized, aiming to offer a valuable reference for the advancement of LAMP application in Salmonella detection. Finally, we look forward to the development direction of LAMP and expect more competitive methods to provide strong support for food safety applications.

Abstract Objective This study aims to conduct an extensive analysis of autoimmune bullous diseases, particularly pemphigus vulgaris and bullous pemphigoid, in Shanghai, China, from 2016 to 2023. It seeks to understand the demographic profiles, comorbidities, mortality rates, risk factors, and socioeconomic impacts associated with autoimmune bullous disease. Methods A cross-sectional study design was employed, enrolling 1,072 patients. Diagnostic measures included clinical manifestations, histopathology, direct immunofluorescence, and serologic tests. The study also involved a detailed socioeconomic analysis and evaluation of occupational risks. Results The findings highlight a significant occupational risk in industries requiring enhanced safety measures, with a notable prevalence of autoimmune bullous disease among workers in these sectors. A considerable portion of the patients were from low-income backgrounds with limited literacy, indicating the economic burden of autoimmune bullous disease. A key discovery of the study is the potential pathological link between autoimmune bullous disease and interstitial lung disease. Conclusion This research, one of the first comprehensive studies on autoimmune bullous disease in China, underscores the need for targeted healthcare strategies and further investigation into autoimmune bullous disease, particularly its relationship with interstitial lung disease.

To elucidate the development patterns and influencing factors of natural fractures in deep-buried tight oil reservoirs, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted using a large amount of core samples, thin section, physical property data, imaging and conventional logging, water injection pressure testing and other data. The focus was on the tight oil reservoirs within the Ⅱ-Ⅵ oil layers of the third member of the Paleogene Hetaoyuan Formation in the southeastern An'peng area of the Biyang Depression, Nanxiang Basin. These oil formations, deposited in fan-delta front environment, are characterized by a high content of rock debris, indicating proximal deposition. A strong positive correlation between reservoir porosity and permeability was observed. Among the various sandstone lithologies, fractures predominantly developed in fine sandstone, followed by siltstone, while gravelly sandstone generally lacked fractures. High-angle and vertical fractures were predominant, constituting 87.8% of the total, while low-angle oblique and horizontal fractures accounted for 7.3% and 4.9%, respectively. The main controlling factors for fracture development in these tight reservoirs included lithology, depositional microfacies, and local structures. Thin and fine-grained single or composite sand bodies typically had more deve-loped fractures, particularly in front channel, channel flank, mouth bar, and outer edge of distal bars. Conversely, fractures were less developed in sheet sands or delta front microfacies. Moreover, fractures primarily formed at structural inflection points, predominantly at the tops and wings of forward structures and were primarily oriented along the WE and NE directions, followed by the NW direction. These fractures predominantly formed during the Neogene depression period (late Himalayan). Fractures significantly influence water channeling in tight oil reservoirs, necessitating enhanced dynamic and static monitoring of the degree, extent, and orientation of fracture development.

Abstract The Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs (BAR) domain protein FAM92A1 is a multifunctional protein engaged in regulating mitochondrial ultrastructure and ciliogenesis, but its physiological role in the brain remains unclear. Here, we show that FAM92A1 is expressed in neurons starting from embryonic development. FAM92A1 knockout in mice results in altered brain morphology and age-associated cognitive deficits, potentially due to neuronal degeneration and disrupted synaptic plasticity. Specifically, FAM92A1 deficiency impairs diverse neuronal membrane morphology, including the mitochondrial inner membrane, myelin sheath, and synapses, indicating its roles in membrane remodeling and maintenance. By determining the crystal structure of the FAM92A1 BAR domain, combined with atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, we uncover that FAM92A1 interacts with phosphoinositide- and cardiolipin-containing membranes to induce lipid-clustering and membrane curvature. Altogether, these findings reveal the physiological role of FAM92A1 in the brain, highlighting its impact on synaptic plasticity and neural function through the regulation of membrane remodeling and endocytic processes.

Abstract This study investigates the factors influencing the lack of Braille-embossed labels in Chinese pharmaceutical product packaging. To this end, this study constructs an evolutionary game model of multi-participant behaviour in drug production regulation and conducts simulation based on the perspective of stakeholders in order to study the evolutionary steady state of regulatory authorities, pharmaceutical companies, and visually impaired individuals and the influence of each parameter variable on the choice of strategic behaviour of the participants. The simulation results show that in the legal framework of China, administrative penalties, the production subsidy rate, and the Basic Medical Insurance (BMI) reimbursement rate are the main drivers of the system’s evolution towards a steady state. Reduced costs of drugs with Braille-embossed packaging is a prerequisite for the visually impaired to purchase such drugs, and the key for the whole system to converge to a stable state therefore lies in the BMI reimbursement rate for drugs with Braille-embossed packaging. This paper suggests that the Chinese government should improve the law enforcement mechanism for the regulation of the production of drugs with Braille-embossed packaging; increase the type and intensity of administrative penalties as well as production subsidies, tax incentives, and compliance incentives for pharmaceutical companies; and provide higher BMI reimbursement rates for the visually impaired. The results of the study provide valuable insights to improve accessibility to drugs and build a barrier-free environment for ensuring medication safety in China and other developing countries.

Abstract Mitigating pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) and post-harvest food loss (PHFL) is essential for enhancing food securrity. To reduce food loss, the use of plant derived specialized metabolites can represent a good approach to develop a more eco-friendly agriculture. Here, we have discovered that soybean seeds hidden underground during winter by Tscherskia triton and Apodemus agrarius during winter possess a higher concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to those remaining exposed in fields. This selection by rodents suggests that among the identified volatiles, 3-FurAldehyde (Fur) and (E)-2-Heptenal (eHep) effectively inhibit the growth of plant pathogens such as Aspergillus flavus, Alternaria alternata, Fusarium solani and Pseudomonas syringae. Additionally, compounds such as Camphene (Cam), 3-FurAldehyde, and (E)-2-Heptenal, suppress the germination of seeds in crops including soybean, rice, maize, and wheat. Importantly, some of these VOCs also prevent rice seeds from pre-harvest sprouting. Consequently, our findings offer straightforward and practical approaches to seed protection and the reduction of PHS and PHFL, indicating potential new pathways for breeding, and reducing both PHS and pesticide usage in agriculture.

This study investigated the effects of a crystalline admixture (CA) and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) on the self-healing and mechanical properties of basalt fibre mortars. Uniaxial compression experiments were conducted on basalt fibre mortar specimens to investigate the effects of the two admixtures and different admixture ratios on the strength repair ability of basalt fibre mortar at different maintenance ages after pre-cracking, and microscopic observations of cracks and their healing products were conducted using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectroscopy to verify the experimental results. The results showed that CA has a noticeable advantage in the self-healing of microcracks by producing a dense material through chemical reactions, whereas SAP can effectively fill wider cracks and reduce their width through physical expansion. Compared with CA, SAP had a greater effect on the compressive strength of the basalt fibre mortars. The simultaneous dosing of CA and SAP in appropriate amounts can effectively combine the advantages of CA and SAP to optimise the self-healing effect of basalt fibre mortars, generating self-healing fillers based on calcium silicate and calcium carbonate in the cracks and enhancing the repair strength of basalt fibre mortars with a self-healing rate of 103%.

Abstract Recent studies have shown the crucial role of podocyte injury in the development of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Deubiquitinating modification of proteins is widely involved in the occurrence and development of diseases. Here, we explore the role and regulating mechanism of a deubiquitinating enzyme, OTUD5, in podocyte injury and DKD. RNA-seq analysis indicates a significantly decreased expression of OTUD5 in HG/PA-stimulated podocytes. Podocyte-specific Otud5 knockout exacerbates podocyte injury and DKD in both type 1 and type 2 diabetic mice. Furthermore, AVV9-mediated OTUD5 overexpression in podocytes shows a therapeutic effect against DKD. Mass spectrometry and co-immunoprecipitation experiments reveal an inflammation-regulating protein, TAK1, as the substrate of OTUD5 in podocytes. Mechanistically, OTUD5 deubiquitinates K63-linked TAK1 at the K158 site through its active site C224, which subsequently prevents the phosphorylation of TAK1 and reduces downstream inflammatory responses in podocytes. Our findings show an OTUD5-TAK1 axis in podocyte inflammation and injury and highlight the potential of OTUD5 as a promising therapeutic target for DKD.

Abstract Lung cancer stands as the leading cause of mortality among all types of tumors, with over 40% of cases being lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Family with sequence similarity 83 member A (FAM83A) emerges as a notable focus due to its frequent overexpression in LUAD. Despite this, the precise role of FAM83A remains elusive. This study addresses this gap by unveiling the crucial involvement of FAM83A in maintaining the cancer stem cell-like (CSC-like) phenotype of LUAD. Through a global proteomics analysis, the study identifies human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2 or ErbB2) as a crucial target of FAM83A. Mechanistically, FAM83A facilitated ErbB2 expression at the posttranslational modification level via the E3 ubiquitin ligase STUB1 (STIP1-homologous U-Box containing protein 1). More importantly, the interaction between FAM83A and ErbB2 at Arg241 promotes calcineurin (CALN)-mediated dephosphorylation of ErbB2, followed by inhibition of STUB1-mediated ubiquitin-proteasomal ErbB2 degradation. The maintenance of the CSC-like phenotype by FAM83A, achieved through the posttranslational regulation of ErbB2, offers valuable insights for identifying potential therapeutic targets for LUAD.

Abstract The discovery of novel two-dimensional (2D) multiferroic materials is attractive due to their potential for the realization of information storage and logic devices. Although many approaches have been explored to simultaneously introduce ferromagnetic (FM) and ferroelectric (FE) orders into a 2D material, the resulting systems are often plagued by weak magnetoelectric (ME) coupling or limited room-temperature stability. Here, we present a superlattice strategy to construct non-centrosymmetric AM2X4 multiferroic monolayers, i.e., intercalating transition metal ions (A) into the tetragonal-like vacancies of transition metal dichalcogenide bilayers (MX2). Starting from 960 intercalated AM2X4 compounds, our high-throughput calculations have identified 21 multiferroics with robust magnetic order, large FE polarization, low transition barrier, high FE/FM transition temperature, and strong ME coupling. According to the origin of magnetism, we have classified them into twelve type-a, seven type-b, and two type-c multiferroics, which exhibit different ME coupling behavior. During the switching of polarization, the reversal of skyrmions chirality, the transition of the magnetic ground state from FM to antiferromagnetic, and the changes in spin-polarized electron distribution were observed in type-a, type-b, and type-c 2D multiferroic materials, respectively. These results substantially expand the family of 2D ferroic materials and pave an avenue for designing and implementing nonvolatile logic and memory devices.

BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly lethal and invasive cancer. Targeted and immunotherapies are the primary treatment options for unresectable advanced HCC. There are no recognized and consistent systemic follow-up treatments for patients with HCC who experience disease progression after first-line targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). According to a few studies, lenalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug that has the potential to be an effective treatment for patients who have progressed after treatment with targeted drugs and ICIs.Case summaryThis article focuses on a patient with HCC whose disease progressed after first-line targeted therapy and ICI therapy combined with lenalidomide as second-line therapy on the basis of the original targeted and ICI regimens, resulting in a favorable oncologic outcome with acceptable toxicity. The progression-free survival (PFS) of the patients in this study reached 3 years, which is much longer than that previously reported, and no progression has occurred thus far.ConclusionsThis case implies that in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who have failed first-line targeted therapy and ICIs, targeted therapy and ICIs can be restarted with the addition of lenalidomide, with surprising results.

Abstract Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a frequent and costly complication of diabetes with limited understandings of mechanisms and therapies. Emerging evidence points to the important roles of interleukin‐33 (IL‐33) in acute kidney injury, yet its contribution to DN is still unclear. We here found a ubiquitous increase of IL‐33 and its receptor (ST2) in murine models and patients with DN. Surprisingly, both IL‐33 and ST2 knockdown aggravated renal lesions in DN, while overexpression of IL‐33 also exacerbated the condition. Further population‐based analyses revealed a positive correlation of IL‐33 expression with renal dysfunction in DN patients. Individuals with high IL‐33 expression‐related polygenic risk score had a higher DN risk. These findings confirmed the harmful effects of IL‐33 on DN. Conversely, endogenous and exogenous partial reduction of IL‐33 signaling conferred renoprotective effects in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, IL‐33 induced senescence by regulating cell cycle factors in HK‐2 cells, and accordingly senescence led to renal cell damage through the secretion of senescence‐related secretory phenotype (SASP) including IL‐33 and prostaglandins. Together, elevated IL‐33 accelerates cellular senescence to drive DN possibly by SASP production, while a partial blockage improves renal injury and senescence. Our findings pinpoint a possible and new avenue for DN interventions.

PurposeTo explore the role of deep learning (DL) and radiomics-based integrated approach based on contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CEMRI) for predicting early recurrence (ER) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients after curative resection.MethodsTotal 165 HCC patients (ER, n = 96 vs. non-early recurrence (NER), n = 69) were retrospectively collected and divided into a training cohort (n = 132) and a validation cohort (n = 33). From pretreatment CEMR images, a total of 3111 radiomics features were extracted, and radiomics models were constructed using five machine learning classifiers (logistic regression, support vector machine, k-nearest neighbor, extreme gradient Boosting, and multilayer perceptron). DL models were established via three variations of ResNet architecture. The clinical-radiological (CR), radiomics combined with clinical-radiological (RCR), and deep learning combined with RCR (DLRCR) models were constructed. Model discrimination, calibration, and clinical utilities were evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis, respectively. The best-performing model was compared with the widely used staging systems and preoperative prognostic indexes.ResultsThe RCR model (area under the curve (AUC): 0.841 and 0.811) and the optimal radiomics model (AUC: 0.839 and 0.804) achieved better performance than the CR model (AUC: 0.662 and 0.752) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The optimal DL model (AUC: 0.870 and 0.826) outperformed the radiomics model in the both cohorts. The DL, radiomics, and CR predictors (aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and tumor diameter) were combined to construct the DLRCR model. The DLRCR model presented the best performance over any model, yielding an AUC, an accuracy, a sensitivity, a specificity of 0.917, 0.886, 0.889, and 0.882 in the training cohort and of 0.844, 0.818, 0.800, and 0.846 in the validation cohort, respectively. The DLRCR model achieved better clinical utility compared to the clinical staging systems and prognostic indexes.ConclusionBoth radiomics and DL models derived from CEMRI can predict HCC recurrence, and DL and radiomics-based integrated approach can provide a more effective tool for the precise prediction of ER for HCC patients undergoing resection.

“Ritual” is one of the core concepts in Confucian culture. Duke Zhou developed the notion of “ritual” as a set of behavioral norms to maintain the hierarchical system of the ancestral lineage and as regulations for state governance and ceremonial practices. Pre-Qin Confucianism inherited and innovated the Zhou rituals, forming the influential Confucian ritual system deeply embedded in traditional Chinese society. The ritual system embodies elements of absolute monarchy, ancestral reverence and filial piety, reflecting China’s traditional cultural factors. It holds significant social functions, serving as a powerful tool for maintaining social order, promoting stability and ensuring the well-being of future generations. This article starts with the three main aspects of the relationship between benevolence and ritual, governance through virtue, and ritual and law. It explains the spirit of benevolence, people-friendly political ethics and the inherent morality of the law contained in Confucian etiquette ethics, and further analyzes the modern value of Confucian etiquette culture and spirit to the contemporary Chinese society’s moral construction and legal one.

It is necessary to reduce the huge energy consumption of buildings while ensuring indoor thermal comfort. The building envelope design notably affects the energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort. This study proposes a framework of support vector regression non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (SVR-NSGA-II) to study the multi-objective optimization of buildings and discover the best building envelope design. First, the data are obtained by OpenStudio 1.1.0 simulation. Then SVR is used to describe the relationships between the parameters and the two objectives. Using SVR models as the objective functions, NSGA-II is applied to optimize the objectives. Finally, taking a proposed office building as an example, the developed framework is applied, verifying its feasibility and effectiveness. The optimized parameters of the building envelope are as follows: the exterior wall U-value, roof U-value, exterior wall U-value, solar heat gain coefficient value (SHGC), and south, north, east, west window-to-wall ratios are respectively equal to 0.664 W/(m2⋅K), 0.393 W/(m2⋅K), 1 W/(m2⋅K), 0.381, 0.697, 0.7, 0.273, and 0.254. The design of the proposed building can be modified to provide a more energy efficient and comfortable building. The proposed model saves time and simplifies operation compared with traditional building information modeling methods.

Replant diseases (RDs), intraspecific negative plant–soil feedback, often stem from nutrient deficiency, allelopathy, or pathogen accumulation. However, the RDs of certain crops are long-lasting and their causes remain unknown. We examined Panax quinquefolius RD in a space-for-time soil sequence representing crop rotation restoration over 1, 10, and 20 years using multiomics and bioassays. Compared with the soils with no ginseng cultivation history, we found 110 significant potential factors related to RD, surprisingly, 53 of which remained unrestored after 20 years. Soil pH and the levels of organic nutrients (amino acids, carbohydrates, and alditols), allelopathic-promoting metabolites (phenolic acids, amines, pyridines, etc.), and beneficial bacteria (Sphingomonas, Burkholderia-Caballeronia-Paraburkholderia, and Terrabacter) and fungi (Acremonium, Penicillium, and Naganishia) decreased, while the levels of allelochemicals (pyruvic and fatty acids) increased. The expression of all metabolic pathways was significantly down-regulated, with the exception of the up-regulated fatty acid-related metabolic pathways. We confirmed that decreased organic nutrient levels and increased levels of allelochemicals impaired P. quinquefolius growth. Soil metabolic factors rather than microbial factors were dominant by network analysis. In conclusion, we found that the overall changes in nutrient levels and metabolic and microbial factors contributed to short-term RD (1–10 year) persistence, whereas long-term RD (after 20 years) primarily resulted from disordered soil metabolite levels and pathways. This research will help deepen our understanding of the relationship between RD and potential changes in the factors influencing RD that are caused by soil legacy effects of valuable plants and provide theoretical guidance for effective soil quality improvement.

In the work, the 1/2 order subharmonic wave of two coupling cavitation bubbles is investigated numerically via Fourier spectrum analysis. By analyzing the dynamics of bubble, we find that the mutual interaction between bubbles can affect the appearance of 1/2 order subharmonic. The results of parameter dependence show that the intensity of 1/2 order subharmonic would be promoted or inhibited with the increase of mutual interaction. The higher the driving amplitude or the smaller the distance between bubbles, the stronger the mutual interaction is, and also the greater the promotion or suppression of the 1/2 order subharmonic is. Moreover, while the 1/2 order subharmonic occurs, the energy of bubble would alternate between two different peaks, and the temperature inside bubble has a similar fluctuation while the bubble collapses. This qualitative analysis suggests that the bubble′s dynamics for multi-bubble case is complex. Understanding the generation of subharmonic of bubble′s dynamics is of great significance for helpful applying of cavitation bubble.
