Abstract To improve the forecast accuracy of wind power, diffusion model based on prior knowledge (DMPK) is proposed. Different from the traditional diffusion model (DM), where the noise perturbation in the diffusion or generation process is random, the noise added in DMPK is modified aiming to the characteristics of wind power signals. The distribution of wind power forecast errors is not a standard Gaussian. Wind power forecast errors are related to forecast methods, weather conditions, and other factors, containing both random signals and certain regularity. This paper adapts the Gaussian distribution to fit the historical forecast error to represent the prior knowledge of wind power. Then, the sampling distribution is derived from its relationship with the fitted prior distribution to replace the standard Gaussian in DM. Taking the prior knowledge into account during the process of noise sampling, the data in the forward process of DMPK can be guided by the distribution of historical errors for diffusion, while the generated result by the reverse process is more consistent with the actual wind power signal. Finally, the superiority of the proposed method is verified by using the wind power data from two real‐world wind farms.

We present a sample of 88 candidate z ∼ 8.5–14.5 galaxies selected from the completed NIRCam imaging from the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science survey. These data cover ∼90 arcmin ^2 (10 NIRCam pointings) in six broadband imaging filters and one medium-band imaging filter. With this sample we confirm at higher confidence early JWST conclusions that bright galaxies in this epoch are more abundant than predicted by most theoretical models. We construct the rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity functions at z ∼ 9, 11, and 14 and show that the space density of bright ( M _UV = −20) galaxies changes only modestly from z ∼ 14 to z ∼ 9, compared to a steeper increase from z ∼ 8 to z ∼ 4. While our candidates are photometrically selected, spectroscopic follow-up has now confirmed 13 of them, with only one significant interloper, implying that the fidelity of this sample is high. Successfully explaining the evidence for a flatter evolution in the number densities of UV-bright z > 10 galaxies may thus require changes to the dominant physical processes regulating star formation. While our results indicate that significant variations of dust attenuation with redshift are unlikely to be the dominant factor at these high redshifts, they are consistent with predictions from models that naturally have enhanced star formation efficiency and/or stochasticity. An evolving stellar initial mass function could also bring model predictions into better agreement with our results. Deep spectroscopic follow-up of a large sample of early galaxies can distinguish between these competing scenarios.

We present a measurement of the low-mass quiescent size–mass relation at cosmic noon (1 < z < 3) from the JWST PRIMER and UNCOVER treasury surveys, which highlights two distinct classes of quiescent galaxies. While the massive population is well studied at these redshifts, the low-mass end has been previously underexplored due to a lack of observing facilities with sufficient sensitivity and spatial resolution. We select a conservative sample of low-mass quiescent galaxy candidates using rest-frame UVJ colors and specific star formation rate criteria and measure galaxy morphology in both rest-frame UV/optical wavelengths (F150W) and rest-frame near-infrared (F444W). We confirm an unambiguous flattening of the low-mass quiescent size–mass relation, which results from the separation of the quiescent galaxy sample into two distinct populations at $\mathrm{log}({M}_{\star }/{M}_{\odot })\sim 10.3$ : low-mass quiescent galaxies that are notably younger and have disky structures, and massive galaxies consistent with spheroidal morphologies and older median stellar ages. These separate populations imply mass quenching dominates at the massive end while other mechanisms, such as environmental or feedback-driven quenching, form the low-mass end. This stellar mass-dependent slope of the quiescent size–mass relation could also indicate a shift from size growth due to star formation (low masses) to growth via mergers (massive galaxies). The transition mass between these two populations also corresponds with other dramatic changes and characteristic masses in several galaxy evolution scaling relations (e.g., star formation efficiency, dust obscuration, and stellar-to-halo mass ratios), further highlighting the stark dichotomy between low-mass and massive galaxy formation.

We study the H α equivalent width (EW(H α )) maps of 19 galaxies at 0.6 < z < 2.2 in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field using NIRISS slitless spectroscopy as part of the Next Generation Deep Extragalactic Exploratory Public Survey. Our galaxies mostly lie on the star formation main sequence with stellar masses between 10 ^9 and 10 ^11 M _⊙ , characterized as “typical” star-forming galaxies at these redshifts. Leveraging deep Hubble Space Telescope and JWST images, spanning 0.4–4.8 μ m, we perform spatially resolved fitting of the spectral energy distributions for these galaxies and construct specific star formation rate (sSFR) and stellar-mass-weighted age maps with a spatial resolution of ∼1 kpc. The pixel-to-pixel EW(H α ) increases with increasing sSFR and with decreasing age. The average trends are slightly different from the relations derived from integrated fluxes of galaxies from the literature, suggesting complex evolutionary trends within galaxies. We quantify the radial profiles of EW(H α ), sSFR, and age. The majority (84%) of galaxies show positive EW(H α ) gradients, in line with the inside-out quenching scenario. A few galaxies (16%) show inverse (and flat) EW(H α ) gradients, possibly due to merging or starbursts. We compare the distributions of EW(H α ) and sSFR to star formation history (SFH) models as a function of galactocentric radius. We argue that the central regions of galaxies have experienced at least one rapid star formation episode, which leads to the formation of the bulge, while their outer regions (e.g., disks) grow via more smoothly varying SFHs. These results demonstrate the ability to study resolved star formation in distant galaxies with JWST NIRISS.

Safe, efficacious, and deployable vaccines are urgently needed to control COVID-19 in the large-scale vaccination campaigns. We report here the preclinical studies of an approved protein subunit vaccine against COVID-19, ZF2001, which contains tandem-repeat dimeric receptor-binding domain (RBD) protein with alum-based adjuvant. We assessed vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy in both mice and non-human primates (NHPs). ZF2001 induced high levels of RBD-binding and SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody in both mice and non-human primates, and elicited balanced TH1/TH2 cellular responses in NHPs. Two doses of ZF2001 protected Ad-hACE2-transduced mice against SARS-CoV-2 infection, as detected by reduced viral RNA and relieved lung injuries. In NHPs, vaccination of either 25 μg or 50 μg ZF2001 prevented infection with SARS-CoV-2 in lung, trachea, and bronchi, with milder lung lesions. No evidence of disease enhancement was observed in both animal models. ZF2001 has been approved for emergency use in China, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Columbia. The high safety, immunogenicity, and protection efficacy in both mice and NHPs found in this preclinical study was consistent with the results in human clinical trials.

We analyze the evolution of massive (log _10 [ M _⋆ / M _⊙ ] > 10) galaxies at z ∼ 1–4 selected from JWST Cosmic Evolution Early Release Survey (CEERS). We infer the physical properties of all galaxies in the CEERS NIRCam imaging through spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting with dense basis to select a sample of high-redshift massive galaxies. Where available we include constraints from additional CEERS observing modes, including 18 sources with MIRI photometric coverage, and 28 sources with spectroscopic confirmations from NIRSpec or NIRCam WFSS. We sample the recovered posteriors in stellar mass from SED fitting to infer the volume densities of massive galaxies across cosmic time, taking into consideration the potential for sample contamination by active galactic nuclei. We find that the evolving abundance of massive galaxies tracks expectations based on a constant baryon conversion efficiency in dark matter halos for z ∼ 1–4. At higher redshifts, we observe an excess abundance of massive galaxies relative to this simple model, resulting in a shallower decline of observed volume densities of massive galaxies. These higher abundances can be explained by modest changes to star formation physics and/or the efficiencies with which star formation occurs in massive dark matter halos, and are not in tension with modern cosmology.

UVCANDELS is a Hubble Space Telescope Cycle-26 Treasury Program awarded 164 orbits of primary ultraviolet (UV) F275W imaging and coordinated parallel optical F435W imaging in four CANDELS fields—GOODS-N, GOODS-S, EGS, and COSMOS—covering a total area of ∼426 arcmin ^2 . This is ∼2.7 times larger than the area covered by previous deep-field space UV data combined, reaching a depth of about 27 and 28 ABmag (5 σ in 0.”2 apertures) for F275W and F435W, respectively. Along with new photometric catalogs, we present an analysis of the rest-frame UV luminosity function (LF), relying on our UV-optimized aperture photometry method, yielding a factor of 1.5 increase over H-isophot aperture photometry in the signal-to-noise ratios of galaxies in our F275W imaging. Using well-tested photometric redshift measurements, we identify 5810 galaxies at redshifts 0.6 < z < 1, down to an absolute magnitude of M _UV = −14.2. In order to minimize the effect of uncertainties in estimating the completeness function, especially at the faint end, we restrict our analysis to sources above 30% completeness, which provides a final sample of 4726 galaxies at −21.5 < M _UV < −15.5. We performed a maximum likelihood estimate to derive the best-fit parameters of the UV LF. We report a best-fit faint-end slope of $\alpha =-{1.359}_{-0.041}^{+0.041}$ at z ∼ 0.8. Creating subsamples at z ∼ 0.7 and z ∼ 0.9, we observe a possible evolution of α with redshift. The unobscured UV luminosity density at M _UV < −10 is derived as ${\rho }_{{\rm{U}}{\rm{V}}}={1.339}_{-0.030}^{+0.027}\,(\times {10}^{26}\,{\rm{e}}{\rm{r}}{\rm{g}}\,{{\rm{s}}}^{-1}\,{{\rm{H}}{\rm{z}}}^{-1}\,{{\rm{M}}{\rm{p}}{\rm{c}}}^{-3})$ using our best-fit LF parameters. The new F275W and F435 photometric catalogs from UVCANDELS have been made publicly available on the Barbara A. Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes.

The Next Generation Deep Extragalactic Exploratory Public (NGDEEP) survey program was designed specifically to include Near Infrared Slitless Spectroscopic observations (NGDEEP-NISS) to detect multiple emission lines in as many galaxies as possible and across a wide redshift range using the Near Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph. We present early results obtained from the first set of observations (Epoch 1, 50% of the allocated orbits) of this program (NGDEEP-NISS1). Using a set of independently developed calibration files designed to deal with a complex combination of overlapping spectra, multiple position angles, and multiple cross filters and grisms, in conjunction with a robust and proven algorithm for quantifying contamination from overlapping dispersed spectra, NGDEEP-NISS1 has achieved a 3 σ sensitivity limit of 2 × 10 ^−18 erg s ^−1 cm ^−2 . We demonstrate the power of deep wide field slitless spectroscopy (WFSS) to characterize the star formation rates, and metallicity ([O iii ]/H β ), and dust content, of galaxies at 1 < z < 3.5. The latter showing intriguing initial results on the applicability and assumptions made regarding the use of Case B recombination. Further, we identify the presence of active galactic nuclei and infer the mass of their supermassive black holes using broadened restframe Mg ii and H β emission lines. The spectroscopic results are then compared with the physical properties of galaxies extrapolated from fitting spectral energy distribution models to photometry alone. The results clearly demonstrate the unique power and efficiency of WFSS at near-infrared wavelengths over other methods to determine the properties of galaxies across a broad range of redshifts.

We analyze rest-frame ultraviolet to optical spectra of three z ≃ 7.47–7.75 galaxies whose Ly α emission lines were previously detected with Keck/MOSFIRE observations, using the JWST/NIRSpec observations from the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science survey. From NIRSpec data, we confirm the systemic redshifts of these Ly α emitters, and emission-line ratio diagnostics indicate these galaxies were highly ionized and metal-poor. We investigate Ly α line properties, including the line flux, velocity offset, and spatial extent. For the one galaxy where we have both NIRSpec and MOSFIRE measurements, we find a significant offset in their flux measurements (∼1.3–5× greater in MOSFIRE) and a marginal difference in the velocity shifts. The simplest interpretation is that the Ly α emission is extended and not entirely encompassed by the NIRSpec slit. The cross-dispersion profiles in NIRSpec reveal that Ly α in one galaxy is significantly more extended than the nonresonant emission lines. We also compute the expected sizes of ionized bubbles that can be generated by the Ly α sources and discuss viable scenarios for the creation of sizable ionized bubbles (>1 physical Mpc). The source with the highest-ionization condition is possibly capable of ionizing its own bubble, while the other two do not appear to be capable of ionizing such a large region, but require additional sources of ionizing photons. Therefore, the fact that we detect Ly α from these galaxies suggests diverse scenarios for the escape of Ly α during the epoch of reionization. High-spectral-resolution spectra with JWST/NIRSpec will be extremely useful for constraining the physics of patchy reionization.

We explore the relationships between the [O/H] gas-phase metallicity radial gradients and multiple galaxy properties for 238 star-forming galaxies at 0.6 < z < 2.6 selected from the CANDELS Ly α Emission at Reionization survey with stellar mass $8.5\lt \mathrm{log}\,{M}_{* }/{M}_{\odot }\lt 10.5$ . The gradients cover the range from −0.11 to 0.22 dex kpc ^−1 , with the median value close to 0. We reconstruct the nonparametric star formation histories (SFHs) of the galaxies with spectral energy distribution modeling using Prospector with more than 40 photometric bands from the Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer, and ground-based facilities. In general, we find weak or no correlations between the metallicity gradients and most galaxy properties, including the mass-weighted age, recent star formation rate, dust attenuation, and morphology as quantified by both parametric and nonparametric diagnostics. We find a significant but moderate correlation between the gradients and the “evolutionary time,” a temporal metric that characterizes the evolutionary status of a galaxy, with flatter gradients observed in more evolved galaxies. Also, there is evidence that galaxies with multiple star formation episodes in their SFHs tend to develop more negative gas-phase metallicity gradients (higher [O/H] at the center). We conclude that gas kinematics, e.g., radial inflows and outflows, is likely an important process in setting the gas-phase metallicity gradients, in addition to the evolution of the SFH radial profile. Since the gradients are largely independent of the galaxies’ physical properties and only weakly dependent on their SFH, it would appear that the timescale of the gas kinematics is significantly shorter than the evolution of star formation.

Endophytic bacteria improve plant health and are sometimes necessary to fight against adverse conditions. Bamboo shoots can be eaten as a vegetable and grow into culm wood. However, few studies have focused on the colonization characteristics of endophytic bacteria in Moso bamboo shoots at different tissue sites and different growth developmental phases. Endophytic bacteria were isolated from the top, the base, and the root of Moso bamboo shoots during three different growth and development stages (winter shoot period underground (S1), spring shoot period at 50 cm aboveground (S2), and fast growth shoot period at 200 cm aboveground (S3)), and the highest content of isolable endophytes were in roots in the S3 stage. A total of 253 different endophytic bacteria strains were totally isolated and then evaluated in term of their PGP (plant growth promoting) traits such as inorganic phosphorus solubilization, organic phosphorus solubilization, hormone production, siderophore production, ACC deaminase, and biological nitrogen fixation. Among those newly isolated strains, Pseudomonas rhodesiae RD7-4 had the strongest phosphorus solubilizing ability, Burkholderia pyrrocinia BD24-2 had the strongest nitrogen fixing ability, and Pseudomonas edaphica TD33-1 had the strongest IAA production ability. Inoculation with all three strains significantly increased the content of soluble starch in Arabidopsis, and B. pyrrocinia BD24-2 significantly increased the fresh weight and promoted the growth of the root system. Furthermore, in pot experiments, B. pyrrocinia BD24-2 significantly increased the biomass, root length, and leaf area. Our study contributes to understanding the endophytes in Moso bamboo shoots, and indicates that the strain BD24-2 can be potentially acted as a plant growth promoter.

We present a robust sample of very high redshift galaxy candidates from the first epoch of JWST/NIRCam imaging from the Next Generation Deep Extragalactic Exploratory Public (NGDEEP) survey. The NGDEEP NIRCam imaging, spanning 9.7 arcmin ^2 in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field Parallel Field 2, reaches m = 30.4 (5 σ , point-source, 2″ diameter apertures corrected to total) in F277W, making it the deepest public JWST GO imaging data set to date. We describe our detailed data reduction process of the six-filter broadband JWST/NIRCam imaging, incorporating custom corrections for systematic effects to produce high-quality calibrated images. Using robust photometric redshift selection criteria, we identify a sample of 38 z ≳ 9 galaxy candidates. These objects span a redshift range of z = 8.5–15.8 and apparent magnitudes of m _F277W = 27–30.5 AB mag, reaching ∼1.5 mag deeper than previous public JWST imaging surveys. We calculate the rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity function at z ∼ 9 and 11 and present a new measurement of the luminosity function faint-end slope at z ∼ 11. We find a faint-end slope of α = −2.5 ± 0.4 and −2.2 ± 0.2 at z ∼ 9 and 11, respectively. This is consistent with no significant evolution in the faint-end slope and number density from z = 9 to 11. Comparing our results with theoretical predictions, we find that some models produce better agreement at the faint end than the bright end. These results will help to constrain how stellar feedback impacts star formation at these early epochs.

We present an overview of the CANDELS Ly α Emission At Reionization (CLEAR) survey. CLEAR is a 130 orbit program of the Hubble Space Telescope using the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) IR G102 grism. CLEAR targets 12 pointings divided between the GOODS-N and GOODS-S fields of the Cosmic Assembly Near-IR Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS). Combined with existing spectroscopic data from other programs, the full CLEAR data set includes spectroscopic imaging of these fields over 0.8–1.7 μ m. In this paper, we describe the CLEAR survey, the survey strategy, the data acquisition, reduction, processing, and science products and catalogs released alongside this paper. The catalogs include emission line fluxes and redshifts derived from the combination of the photometry and grism spectroscopy for 6048 galaxies, primarily ranging from 0.2 ≲ z ≲ 3. We also provide an overview of CLEAR’s science goals and results. In conjunction with this paper we provide links to electronic versions of the data products, including 1D+2D extracted spectra and emission line maps.

We present a study of spatially resolved star formation histories (SFHs) for 60 z ∼ 2.3 main-sequence, star-forming galaxies selected from the MOSDEF spectroscopic survey in the GOODS-N field, with median stellar mass $\mathrm{log}({M}_{\star }/{M}_{\odot })$ = 9.75 and spanning the range $8.6\lt \mathrm{log}({M}_{\star }/{M}_{\odot })\lt 11.5$ . Photometry is decomposed into a central and an outer spatial component using observed z _F850LP − H _F160W colors. The Prospector code is used to model spectral energy distributions for the center, outskirt, and integrated galaxy using Hubble Space Telescope/ACS and WFC3, Spitzer/IRAC, and ground-based photometry, with additional constraints on gas-phase metallicity and spectroscopic redshift from MOSDEF spectroscopy. For the low-resolution bands, spatially resolved photometry is determined with an iterative approach. The reconstructed SFHs indicate that the majority of galaxies with $\mathrm{log}({M}_{\star }/{M}_{\odot })\lt 10.5$ are observed while their central regions undergo relatively recent (
