Abstract Aluminum (Al) is usually added to solid propellants to improve the combustion performance, however the condensed combustion products (CCPs) especially the large agglomerates generated from aluminum combustion can reduce the specific impulse of the engine, and result in two-phase loss, residue accumulation and throat liner ablation. Al and ammonium perchlorate (AP), as important components of NEPE propellants, can affect the formation process of the CCPs of aluminized NEPE propellants. To clarify the effect of Al and AP particle sizes on the properties of the CCPs of aluminized NEPE propellants, a constant-pressure quench vessel was adopted to collect the combustion products of four different formulations of NEPE propellants. It was found that the condensed combustion products are mainly divided into aluminum agglomerates and oxide particles, the diameter of the aluminum agglomerates of these four different formulations of NEPE propellants at 7 MPa was smaller than that in 3 MPa, and the shells of the aluminum agglomerates were smoother and the spherical shape was more perfect. X-ray diffraction analysis of the CCPs of the four NEPE propellants under 3 MPa revealed the presence of both Al and Al2O3. With the increase of the particle size of Al and AP, the oxidation degree of aluminum particles decreases. The particle size of the CCPs of the four different formulations of NEPE propellants under 1 and 3 MPa was analyzed by using a laser particle size analyzer, it is found that the increase of AP particle size is helpful to reduce the size of condensate combustion products. Based on the classical pocket theory, establishing a new agglomeration size prediction model, which can be used to predict the agglomeration size on the burning surface. Compared with the empirical model, the new agglomeration size prediction model is in good agreement with the experimental results.

[Objective] The influences of barrier height (H), porosity (P), and row spacing (R) on the erosion protection of a vertical sunflower sand barrier were studied in order to provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the parameter configuration of a vertical sunflower stalk sand barrier and the development of a vertical sand barrier wind and sand control project. [Methods] Based on field observations of wind speed and sand transport, research on the variation characteristics of sand barrier roughness, windproof effect, and sand blocking effect under different parameter configurations was conducted. [Methods] ① The main windproof area of the sand barrier was 0—50 cm above the soil surface. Compared with the roughness of the bare dune sand barrier, the roughness was increased by 7.70—214.45 times, the windproof effect of each specification of sand barrier was in the range of 11.74%—59.45%, and the sand barrier effect was in the range of 33.06%—92.23%. ② The wind and sand barrier effect of the sand barrier increased with an increase in barrier height, and decreased with an increase in porosity and row spacing. The influence of barrier height on the wind protection effect was greater than the influence of porosity, and the influence of porosity on the sand barrier effect was greater than the influence of barrier height. ③ The windproof effect and sand barrier effect of H(30 cm)-P(40%)-R(2 m), H(30 cm)-P(50%)-R(1 m), H(40 cm)-P(40%)-R(2 m), H(40 cm)-P(50%)-R(2 m) reached 35% and 75%, respectively. [Conclusion] A vertical sunflower stalk sand barrier can effectively reduce wind speed and sand transport amount. Sand barrier parameters are the key to affecting the protective effect of a sand barrier. The most important parameters affecting the windproof effect and sand barrier effect of a sand barrier are barrier height and porosity.

This paper presents a computational fluid dynamics study of morphology and structure dynamics of the flow over a supersonic secant-ogive cylinder boat tail projectile under heavy rain. The discrete phase model is employed to approximate the process of droplet–particle collision with the projectile wall and the formation of a liquid film. The simulation results indicate that at certain angles of attack, rain impact decreases lift coefficient of projectile by as much as 14.9%, as the wall pressure distribution is distinctly reformed. Moreover, the rain condition induces the formation of a liquid film on the front end of the projectile, as the angle of attack increases, the stability of this liquid film gradually improves, while its thickness and coverage rise to the peak values and then decrease. On the projectile’s trailing half, however, the liquid film developed a watery pattern. The collision of liquid droplets causes momentum loss to the projectile, while an unstable liquid film tends to exacerbate aerodynamic performance loss, a stable liquid film would mitigate the performance loss.

This study investigates the impacts of height (H) and porosity (P) on the structural properties of wind-driven sand flux in vertical sunflower straw sand-obstacles. We conducted an experiment on sand transport within barriers of various configurations within a 1 m proximity to the surface. In tandem, we monitored wind velocity and direction within the barriers, analyzed total sand transport rate, sand-blocking effects, and cumulative sediment transport rate heights for various parameter configurations, and devised a best sand transport flux model for use within the sand-obstacle. The efficacy of vertical sunflower stalk sand-obstacles in mitigating sand movement has been demonstrated to fall within the range of 37.26%–92.31%. This study reveals a significant correlation between barrier height and porosity in achieving this effect (p < 0.05). High and densely configured sand-obstacles lead to an accumulation of intercepted sand material in front of the front row of the sand-obstacle. In contrast, low and sparsely arranged sand-obstacles exhibit a delayed state of sand material accumulation. Furthermore, with an increase in the height of the obstacle and a decrease in porosity, there is a diminishing trend in the sand transport rate within the obstacle. Concurrently, the height of sand transport within the barrier exhibits an upward trend. A three-parameter exponential function has been employed to more precisely simulate the wind-sand flow structure characteristics within a 1-m height range of the barrier. These research findings contribute to an enhanced understanding of the impact of different vertical sand-obstacle configurations on near-surface wind-driven sand transport patterns in active desert areas. Moreover, they furnish both theoretical underpinnings and practical guidance for the scientific configuration of vertical sand-obstacles.

Nitrate ester plasticized polyether (NEPE) propellant is widely used in solid rocket motors, having both good mechanical properties and high specific impulse. However, its ignition and combustion process are complex and need to be better understood. In this study, a high-pressure sealed combustion chamber was constructed, a thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate the thermal decomposition process, and a high-speed camera was used to capture the ignition process and combustion behavior of the propellant. The results showed that the thermal decomposition process of this propellant could be divided into two stages. The first stage (50–350°C) was the major mass loss stage and exhibited typical features of BTTN, RDX, and AP decomposition. The second stage (350–500°C) was mainly accompanied by decomposition of the remaining components as well as slight oxidation of aluminum particles. The ignition process of NEPE propellant was divided into four stages, including the inert heating period stage, thermal decomposition stage, initial flame stage, and stable combustion stage. After the propellant absorbed heat, the propellant started to pyrolyze and gasify to generate flammable gas. When the temperature of the propellant surface reached the flammable gas ignition point, an initial flame was generated on the surface, which spread rapidly, covering the surface. The ignition delay time of the propellant was measured by a signal acquisition system, and a mathematical model was then established for the ignition delay time. The results showed that the ignition delay time decreased with increased laser heat flux and ambient pressure. Finally, the Vielle burning rate empirical formula was used to fit the burning rate data for the propellant. The resulting good fit was consistent with experimental measurements and showed that the formula was valid for predicting the NEPE propellant burning rate under 0.1–3.0 MPa nitrogen.

In this work, a new configuration of strut-based scramjet is proposed, and a series of simulations are conducted to investigate its possibility of practical application. The simulation results are verified via the classical DLR ramjet and an experiment conducted on the connected pipe facility. The inlet area (Ain) and air intake height (H) of the combustor are varied independently to investigate their performance. The results indicate that the flow field and shock wave structure of such engine reveal similar characteristics as the classical DLR engine, and the variation in engine geometry can significantly affect its combustion characteristics. Moreover, the combustion efficiency could be enhanced by 2% as the Ain varied from 900π mm2 to 1100π mm2; increasing the air intake path (H) to 12 mm can increase the combustion efficiency by 25%. In general, the present work proposes a new geometry of the scramjet combustor; this combustor has possibility of practical application, but a further and detailed investigation is still needed.

Free radicals are associated with aging and many diseases. Antioxidant peptides with good antioxidant activity and absorbability are one of the hotspots in antioxidant researches. In our study, pearl shell (Pinctada martensii) meat hydrolysate was purified, and after identification by proteomics, six novel antioxidant peptides SPSSS, SGTAV, TGVAS, GGSIT, NSVAA, and GGSLT were screened by bioinformatics analysis. The antioxidant peptides exhibited good cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) and the CAA of SGTAV (EC50: 0.009 mg/mL) and SPSSS (EC50: 0.027 mg/mL) were better than that of positive control GSH (EC50: 0.030 mg/mL). In the AAPH-induced oxidative damage models, the antioxidant peptides significantly increased the viability of HepG2 cells, and the cell viability of SGTAV, SPSSS, and NAVAA were significantly restored from 79.41% to 107.43% and from 101.09% and 100.09%, respectively. In terms of antioxidant mechanism by molecular docking, SGTAV, SPSSS, and NAVAA could tightly bind to free radicals (DPPH and ABTS), antioxidant enzymes (CAT and SOD), and antioxidant channel protein (Keap1), suggesting that the antioxidant peptides had multiple antioxidant activities and had structure–activity linkages. This study suggests that the antioxidant peptides above are expected to become new natural materials for functional food industries, which contribute to the high-value applications of pearl shell meat.

Pasty rocket engines have broad application prospects in the aerospace field. To study the internal ballistic characteristics of the pasty propellant rocket engine, the burning surface change model of pasty propellant was built. The calculation program was developed to calculate the pressure evolution in the combustion chamber, and the experiment was carried out based on a pasty propellant rocket test system. The data calculated by the program are in good agreement with the experiment, the error of the initial pressure peak is only 4.02%, and the internal ballistic characteristics of the rocket engine at each stage were analyzed detailly. The effects of ignition delay time, transport pipeline structure, free volume of the combustion chamber, mass flow rate, and flow velocity of the pasty propellant on internal ballistic characteristics of the pasty propellant rocket engine are investigated. The results indicate that when the ignition delay time increases, the pressure rises faster and the initial pressure peak increases obviously. The transport pipe diameter changes from 11.3 mm to 7.4 mm, and the initial combustion time and residual propellant combustion time decreased by 41.3% and 36.0%. The reduction of the free volume of the combustion chamber can reduce the initial pressure peak and the time to reach the equilibrium pressure. The initial pressure spike and equilibrium pressure rise with the increase of the pasty propellant flow velocity. While the ignition transient decreased with the increase of the pasty propellant flow velocity. The internal ballistic properties can be improved by reducing the ignition delay time, the diameter of the transport pipeline, and the free volume of the combustion chamber, or by increasing the mass flow rate of the pasty propellant rocket engine.

Glioma is the most frequent primary brain tumor that causes high mortality and morbidity with poor prognosis. There are four grades of gliomas, I to IV, among which grade II and III are low-grade glioma (LGG). Although less aggressive, LGG almost universally progresses to high-grade glioma and eventual causes death if lacking of intervention. Current LGG treatment mainly depends on surgical resection followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but the survival rates of LGG patients are low. Therefore, it is necessary to use prognostic biomarkers to classify patients into subgroups with different risks and guide clinical managements. Using gene expression profiling and long-term follow-up data, we established an Online consensus Survival analysis tool for LGG named OSlgg. OSlgg is comprised of 720 LGG cases from two independent cohorts. To evaluate the prognostic potency of genes, OSlgg employs the Kaplan-Meier plot with hazard ratio and p value to assess the prognostic significance of genes of interest. The reliability of OSlgg was verified by analyzing 86 previously published prognostic biomarkers of LGG. Using OSlgg, we discovered two novel potential prognostic biomarkers (CD302 and FABP5) of LGG, and patients with the elevated expression of either CD302 or FABP5 present the unfavorable survival outcome. Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world with an increasing number of fatalities. Identification of novel prognosis biomarker for LIHC may improve treatment and therefore patient outcomes. The availability of public gene expression profiling data offers the opportunity to discover prognosis biomarkers for LIHC. We developed an online consensus survival analysis tool named OSlihc using gene expression profiling and long-term follow-up data to identify new prognosis biomarkers. OSlihc consists of 637 cases from four independent cohorts. As a risk assessment tool, OSlihc generates the Kaplan–Meier survival plot with hazard ratio (HR) and p value to evaluate the prognostic value of a gene of interest. To test the reliability of OSlihc, we analyzed 65 previous reported prognostic biomarkers in OSlihc and showed that all of which have significant prognostic values. Furthermore, we identified four novel potential prognostic biomarkers (ATG9A, WIPI1, CXCL1, and CSNK2A2) for LIHC, the elevated expression of which predict the unfavorable survival outcomes. These genes (ATG9A, WIPI1, CXCL1, and CSNK2A2) may be potentially new biomarkers to identify at-risk LIHC patients when further validated. By OSlihc, users can evaluate the prognostic abilities of genes of their interest, which provides a platform for researchers to identify prognostic biomarkers to further develop targeted therapy strategies for LIHC patients. This paper presents a numerical investigation of ignition and combustion stabilization of a novel design of a solid-fuel ramjet (SFRJ) motor with and without swirl flow. The proposed design includes two solid fuels, retaining the simple design of the classic SFRJ. Numerical simulations of unsteady, turbulent, reactive, and swirling flow coupled with solid-fuel pyrolysis have been performed using an in-house CFD solver. Experiments on SFRJ were conducted via a connected-pipe test facility to validate the developed code. Furthermore, the code was validated for chemical reactions, heat diffusion, and swirl flow by using benchmark test cases of shock-induced, semi-infinite plate, and dump combustor with swirl flow, respectively. Then, the proposed and classic designs were simulated for the same inflow conditions and configurations, and the results were analyzed and discussed. It is found that the mixing degree, reactant residence time, mass flux, ignition delay time, and regression rate improve when using the proposed design. Moreover, the proposed design reveals interesting observations of a new flame being created and merged with the main flame.

In this paper, we prove an averaged version of an algebraicity conjecture of Gross and Zagier concerning the values of higher Green's function at CM points. Abstract Background Over the past two decades, dengue fever (DF) has emerged as a significant arboviral disease in Yunnan province, China, particularly in the China-Myanmar border area. Aedes aegypti, an invasive mosquito species, plays a crucial role in transmitting the dengue virus to the local population. Insecticide-based vector control has been the primary tool employed to combat DF, but the current susceptibility status of Ae. aegypti to commonly used insecticides is unknown. Assessment of Ae. aegypti resistance to pyrethroid insecticides and an understanding of the underlying mechanisms of this resistance in the China-Myanmar border region is of significant strategic importance for effectively controlling the DF epidemic in the area. Methods Aedes aegypti larvae collected from Ruili and Gengma counties in Yunnan Province were reared to adults in the laboratory and tested for susceptibility to three pyrethroid insecticides (3.20% permethrin, 0.08% lambda-cyhalothrin and 0.20% deltamethrin) by the standard WHO susceptibility bioassay. Genotyping of mutations in the knockdown gene (kdr), namely S989P, V1016G and F1534C, that are responsible for resistance to pyrethroid insecticides was performed using allele-specific PCR methods. A possible association between the observed resistant phenotype and mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel gene (VGSC) was also studied. Results Aedes aegypti mosquitoes collected from the two counties and reared in the laboratory were resistant to all of the pyrethroids tested, with the exception of Ae. aegypti from Gengma County, which showed sensitivity to 0.20% deltamethrin. The mortality rate of Ae. aegypti from Ruili county exposed to 3.20% permethrin did not differ significantly from that of Ae. aegypti from Gengma County (χ 2 = 0.311, P = 0.577). By contrast, the mortality rate of Ae. aegypti from Ruili County exposed to 0.08% lambda-cyhalothrin and 0.20% deltamethrin, respectively, was significantly different from that of Ae. aegypti from Gengma. There was no significant difference in the observed KDT50 of Ae. aegypti from the two counties to various insecticides. Four mutation types and 12 genotypes were detected at three kdr mutation sites. Based on results from all tested Ae. aegypti, the V1016G mutation was the most prevalent kdr mutation (100% prevalence), followed by the S989P mutation (81.6%) and the F1534C mutation (78.9%). The constituent ratio of VGSC gene mutation types was significantly different in Ae. aegypti mosquitoes from Ruili and those Gengma. The triple mutant S989P + V1016G + F1534C was observed in 274 Ae. aegypti mosquitoes (60.8%), with the most common genotype being SP + GG + FC (31.4%). The prevalence of the F1534C mutation was significantly higher in resistant Ae. aegypti from Ruili (odds ratio [OR] 7.43; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.71–32.29; P = 0.01) and Gengma (OR 9.29; 95% CI 3.38–25.50; P = 0.00) counties than in susceptible Ae. aegypti when exposed to 3.20% permethrin and 0.08% lambda-cyhalothrin, respectively. No significant association was observed in the triple mutation genotypes with the Ae. aegypti population exposed to 3.20% permethrin and 0.20% deltamethrin resistance (P > 0.05), except for Ae. aegypti from Gengma County when exposed to 0.08% lambda-cyhalothrin (OR 2.86; 95% CI 1.20–6.81; P = 0.02). Conclusions Aedes aegypti from Ruili and Gengma counties have developed resistance to various pyrethroid insecticides. The occurrence of multiple mutant sites in VGSC strongly correlated with the high levels of resistance to pyrethroids in the Ae. aegypti populations, highlighting the need for alternative strategies to manage the spread of resistance. A region-specific control strategy for dengue vectors needs to be implemented in the future based on the status of insecticide resistance and kdr mutations. Graphical Abstract

In order to understand the ignition and combustion characteristics of NEPE propellants under different pressure conditions and the agglomeration behavior of aluminum particles on the burning surface, the Al/NEPE propellant was tested on a sealed high‐pressure laser ignition platform. Laser ignition experiments show that both ignition delay time and combustion time are inversely proportional to ambient pressure. With the increase of pressure, the reduction of ignition delay time and self‐sustaining combustion time is reduced. The impact of pressure on ignition and combustion is very complex. We then analyze the effect of pressure on ignition delay time using a theoretical mechanism. High‐speed microscopic images display the agglomeration of aluminum particles in propellants mainly through the following three processes: accumulation, aggregation, and agglomeration. It is also found that many aluminum particles are agglomerated on the surface, the aluminum droplet agglomerates formed on the combustion surface are separated from the combustion surface, and the agglomerates rupture and flow out of the liquid alumina during the combustion process. The phenomenon of secondary agglomeration is also observed. The microstructure and elemental composition of combustion products of aluminum particles in NEPE propellant were obtained by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The detection results confirmed some agglomeration phenomena. At 3.0 MPa, the combustion of the propellant sample is sufficient, and the aluminum particles are smooth spherical alumina particles. At 1.0 MPa, the combustion of the propellant sample is insufficient, and the aluminum particles are rough. The particle size under different pressure was analyzed by a laser particle size analyzer. The results show that increasing the pressure can reduce the average agglomeration size of aluminum particles and improve combustion efficiency. The number of large particle aggregates is more at 3 MPa. From the perspective of overall particle size results, within the same diameter interval, the percentage of particle number does not increase or decrease significantly with the increase of pressure. Abstract Background The efficacy of chloroquine treatment for vivax malaria has been rarely evaluated due to a lack of an appropriate testing method. The objective of this study was to conduct molecular monitoring of chloroquine resistance in Plasmodium vivax strains from vivax malaria patients in Yunnan Province, focusing on the analysis of polymorphism in the P. vivax chloroquine resistance transporter protein orthologous gene (pvcrt-o). Methods In accordance with the principles of a cohort study, blood samples were collected from malaria cases diagnosed with a P. vivax mono-infection in Yunnan Province from 2020 to 2022. Segmental PCR was used to amplify the whole pvcrt-o gene in the blood samples and their products were subsequently sequenced. The sequencing data were arranged to obtain the full coding DNA sequence (CDS) as well as the gene’s promoter region sequences. The CDSs were aligned with the reference sequence (XM_001613407.1) of the P. vivax SalI isolate to identify the mutant loci. Results From a total of 375 blood samples taken from vivax malaria cases, 272 both whole gene CDSs (1272–1275 bp) and promoter DNA sequences (707 bp) of pvcrt-o gene were obtained. Among the whole CDSs, there were 7 single nucleotide polymorphic sites in which c.7 A>G was the minor allele frequency (MAF) site with 4.4% (12/272) detection rate. The mutation detection rate showed a significant decrease from 9.8% (10/102) in 2020 to 1.1% (1/92) in 2021 and 1.3% (1/78) in 2022, indicating statistical significance (χ 2 = 11.256, P

In this paper, we explicitly construct harmonic Maass forms that map to the holomorphic weight 1 theta series associated by Hecke to odd ray class group characters of real quadratic fields. From this construction, we give precise arithmetic information contained in the Fourier coefficients of the holomorphic part of the harmonic Maass form, establishing the main part of a conjecture of the second author.
