Abstract Background The period of standardized training is a transitional stage when Generation Z newly graduated registered nurses (Gen Z NGRNs) change their role from student to nurse. Affected by the COVID-19, they lack clinical practice and practicum experience in emergency departments in their university studies. At the beginning of career, they are under great pressure. Resilience is one of the factors that reduce their stress level and increases endurance. It is of interest to understand how this representative group of nurses gained and played the experience of resilience early in their careers. Objective To explore Gen Z NGRNs’ experience and process of resilience, to provide a new perspective and theoretical basis for psychological rehabilitation or intervention of medical staff who experienced transition shock. Methods This study employed a qualitative design based on the phenomenological approach. 18 nurses from a third-level class-A hospital in Shanghai who participated in standardized training in emergency department were enrolled using purposive sampling. Data collection was through in-depth and semi-structured interviews and continued until reaching data saturation. Results The investigation uncovered three themes and ten subthemes. Pressure and challenge contained high workload and high risk coexist, death’s stress response, more emergencies and high professional requirements. Coping and adaptation contained team help, psychological restructuring, peer support, transformational leadership. Reflection and planning contained enhance learning, appreciate life. Conclusions Our study described the embodiment and coping experience of the physical and mental stress faced by Gen Z NGRNs during their standardized training in the emergency department. It is emphasized that nurse educators should pay attention to the character and actual needs of Gen Z NGRNs, explore and formulate strategies, so as to guide NGRNs to quickly adapt and grow in the new role. The ultimate goal is to increase nurse retention and improve the quality of nursing.

Abstract To assess the concentration characteristics and ecological risks of potential toxic elements (PTEs) in water and sediment, 17 water samples and 17 sediment samples were collected in the Xiyu River to analyze the content of Cr, Ni, As, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd and Hg, and the environmental risks of PTEs was evaluated by single-factor pollution index, Nemerow comprehensive pollution index, potential ecological risk, and human health risk assessment. The results indicated that Hg in water and Pb, Cu, Cd in sediments exceeded the corresponding environmental quality standards. In the gold mining factories distribution river section (X8-X10), there was a significant increase in PTEs in water and sediments, indicating that the arbitrary discharge of tailings during gold mining flotation is the main cause of PTEs pollution. The increase in PTEs concentration at the end of the Xiyu River may be related to the increased sedimentation rate, caused by the slowing of the riverbed, and the active chemical reactions at the estuary. The single-factor pollution index and Nemerow pollution index indicated that the river water was severely polluted by Hg. Potential ecological risk index indicated that the risk of Hg in sediments was extremely high, the risk of Cd was high, and the risk of Pb and Cu was moderate. The human health risk assessment indicated that As in water at point X10 and Hg in water at point X9 may pose non-carcinogenic risk to children through ingestion, and As at X8–X10 and Cd at X14 may pose carcinogenic risk to adults through ingestion. The average HQingestion value of Pb in sediments was 1.96, indicating that the ingestion of the sediments may poses a non-carcinogenic risk to children, As in the sediments at X8–X10 and X15–X17 may pose non-carcinogenic risk to children through ingestion.

Abstract Background Artificial Intelligence(AI)-based solutions for Gleason grading hold promise for pathologists, while image quality inconsistency, continuous data integration needs, and limited generalizability hinder their adoption and scalability. Methods We present a comprehensive digital pathology workflow for AI-assisted Gleason grading. It incorporates A!MagQC (image quality control), A!HistoClouds (cloud-based annotation), Pathologist-AI Interaction (PAI) for continuous model improvement, Trained on Akoya-scanned images only, the model utilizes color augmentation and image appearance migration to address scanner variations. We evaluate it on Whole Slide Images (WSI) from another five scanners and conduct validations with pathologists to assess AI efficacy and PAI. Results Our model achieves an average F1 score of 0.80 on annotations and 0.71 Quadratic Weighted Kappa on WSIs for Akoya-scanned images. Applying our generalization solution increases the average F1 score for Gleason pattern detection from 0.73 to 0.88 on images from other scanners. The model accelerates Gleason scoring time by 43% while maintaining accuracy. Additionally, PAI improve annotation efficiency by 2.5 times and led to further improvements in model performance. Conclusions This pipeline represents a notable advancement in AI-assisted Gleason grading for improved consistency, accuracy, and efficiency. Unlike previous methods limited by scanner specificity, our model achieves outstanding performance across diverse scanners. This improvement paves the way for its seamless integration into clinical workflows.

Abstract In this study, fast-growing poplar reclaimed from abandoned homestead in Xixian New District, Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, was used as the research object to explore the multi-fractal characteristics of soil particle size distribution under different management modes of abandoned land (control), irrigation, fertilizer irrigation and mixed fertilizer irrigation. The results showed that the mean values of soil clay, silt and sand in abandoned land were 14.58%, 81.21% and 4.22% respectively, 14.08%, 79.92% and 5.99% under irrigation, 15.17%, 81.19% and 3.64% under fertilizer irrigation, and 16.75%, 80.20% and 3.05% in mixed fertilizer treatment. From 40 cm, with increasing soil depth, soil clay particles increase under irrigation, fertilizer irrigation, and mixed fertilizer irrigation modes. The single fractal dimension of soil particle size distribution (D) in each treatment ranges from 2.721 to 2.808. At 60–100 cm, D shows fertilizer irrigation > mixed fertilizer irrigation > irrigation > abandoned land, indicating that fertilization and irrigation can increase the fine-grained matter of deep soil particles and reduce soil roughness. Compared with abandoned land, under irrigation, fertilizer irrigation and mixed fertilizer modes the capacity dimension (D 0 ), entropy dimension (D 1 ), correlation dimension(D 2 ), shape characteristics of the multifractal spectrum (Δf) and overall inhomogeneity of the soil particle size distribution (D 0 –D 10 ) indicate an uneven distribution of soil particle size; fractal structure characteristics of soil (D −10 –D 0 ) indicate a simplified soil structure, and degree of dispersion of soil particle size distribution (D 1 /D 0 ) indicates that soil particle size is distributed in dense areas. BackgroundIntracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe stroke subtype with high morbidity, disability, and mortality rates. Currently, no biomarkers for ICH are available for use in clinical practice. We aimed to explore the roles of RNAs in ICH pathogenesis and identify potential diagnostic biomarkers.MethodsWe collected 233 individual blood samples from two independent cohorts, including 64 patients with ICH, 59 patients with ischemic stroke (IS), 60 patients with hypertension (HTN) and 50 healthy controls (CTRL) for RNA sequencing. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), and weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) were performed to identify ICH-specific modules. The immune cell composition was evaluated with ImmuneCellAI. Multiple machine learning algorithms to select potential biomarkers for ICH diagnosis, and further validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT−PCR). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA) were performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of the signature for ICH. Finally, we generated M1 and M2 macrophages to investigate the expression of candidate genes.ResultsIn both cohorts, 519 mRNAs and 131 lncRNAs were consistently significantly differentially expressed between ICH patients and HTN controls. Gene function analysis suggested that immune system processes may be involved in ICH pathology. ImmuneCellAI analysis revealed that the abundances of 11 immune cell types were altered after ICH in both cohorts. WGCNA and GSEA identified 18 immune-related DEGs. Multiple algorithms identified an RNA panel (CKAP4, BCL6, TLR8) with high diagnostic value for discriminating ICH patients from HTN controls, CTRLs and IS patients (AUCs: 0.93, 0.95 and 0.82; sensitivities: 81.3%, 84.4% and 75%; specificities: 100%, 96% and 79.7%, respectively). Additionally, CKAP4 and TLR8 mRNA and protein levels decreased in RAW264.7 M1 macrophages and increased in RAW264.7 M2 macrophages, while BCL6 expression increased in M1 macrophages but not in M2 macrophages, which may provide potential therapeutic targets for ICH.ConclusionsThis study demonstrated that the expression levels of lncRNAs and mRNAs are associated with ICH, and an RNA panel (CKAP4, BCL6, TLR8) was developed as a potential diagnostic tool for distinguishing ICH from IS and controls, which could provide useful insight into ICH diagnosis and pathogenesis.

Abstract The application of risk management strategies is a common approach in emergency response scenarios. However, scant knowledge exists regarding its utilization in the specific context of an outbreak, both theoretically and practically. This study delves into the realm of risk management during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on four key measurements: risk avoidance (RA), risk reduction (RD), risk transfer (RT), and risk retention (RR). Using 800 valid responses collected from 31 provinces across China between August 1 and September 30, 2020, this study investigates spatial disparities in individuals’ intentions towards risk management. To achieve this, an extended version of the Theory of Planned Behavior (E-TPB) is applied. The Structural Equation Model’s path analyses revealed several findings: (1) discernible spatial disparities in RR, RA, and RD intentions between large and small cities; (2) RD and RR intentions were significantly associated with attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and risk perception; (3) RA and RT intentions were significantly associated with attitude and risk perception; (4) risk perception exihibiting both direct and indirect effects on RA and RR intentions. This study contributs to the urban studies literature by extending the theoretical framework of risk management in the context of COVID-19. It enhances the measurement tools employed in the TPB model and scrutinizes spatial disparities in the adoption of preventative measures against COVID-19. The findings underscore the importance for local policymakers to consider geographical differences when formulating effective strategies for COVID-19 prevention.

Abstract The study specifically focused on the Hongliulin mining area, where a total of 40 soil samples were meticulously collected and analyzed from within a 1000 m radius extending from the tailings dam. The findings revealed that soil pH within the 0–1000 m range generally leaned towards the alkaline side. In terms of soil nutrient content, encompassing factors such as soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK), alkali nitrogen (AK), available phosphorus (AP), and quick-acting potassium (AK), the variations fell within the following ranges: 2.23–13.58 g/kg, 0.12–0.73 g/kg, 0.18–1.15 g/kg, 9.54–35.82 g/kg, 2.89–6.76 mg/kg, 3.45–11.25 mg/kg, and 5.86–130.9 mg/kg. Collectively, these values indicate relatively low levels of soil nutrients. Within the 0–500 m range of soil samples, the average concentrations of Cd, Hg, Pb, and As were 0.778, 0.198, 24.87, and 17.92 mg/kg, respectively. These concentrations exceeded the established soil background values of Shaanxi Province and emerged as the primary pollutants in the study area. Within this same range, the mean values of eight toxic metals (Pi) were ranked in the following descending order: 1.726 (Hg), 1.400 (As), 1.129 (Cr), 1.109 (Pb), 0.623 (Zn), 0.536 (Cd), 0.309 (Cu), and 0.289 (Ni). With the exception of Hg, As, Cr, and Pb, which exhibited slight pollution, the other toxic metals were found to be within acceptable pollution limits for this sampling range, in line with the results obtained using the geo-accumulation index method. The average potential ecological risk index for the eight toxic metals in the study area stood at 185.0, indicating a moderate overall pollution level. When assessing individual elements, the proportions of ecological risk attributed to Hg, As, Pb, and Cd were 34.57%, 27.44%, 25.11%, and 23.11%, respectively. This suggests that the primary potential ecological risk elements in the study area are Hg and As, followed by Cd and Pb. Notably, toxic metals Hg and Pb, as well as As and Pb, exhibited significant positive correlations within the sampling area, suggesting a common source. An analysis of the relationship between soil physicochemical properties and toxic metals indicated that soil pH, SOM, TN, and TP were closely linked to toxic metal concentrations. The toxic metal elements in the research area's soil exhibit moderate variability (0.16 0.36). Within the range of 0–200 m, the CV values for Cd and Hg exceed 1, indicating a high level of variability. The coefficient of variation for SOM, TP, AP, AK and TK is relatively high with the of 2.93, 2.36, 2.36, 21.01, 7.54. The soil in the sampling area has undergone significant disturbances due to human activities, resulting in toxic metal pollution and nutrient deficiencies.

Abstract Rain gardens play a key role in urban non-point source pollution control. The drainage type affects the infiltration processes of runoff pollutants. The soil properties and microbial community structures were studied to reveal the stability of the ecosystem in rain gardens with different drainage types under long-term operation. The results showed that the soil water content and total organic carbon in the drained rain gardens were always higher than that of the infiltrated ones. With the increase in running time, the contents of heavy metals in rain gardens showed significant accumulation phenomena, especially the contents of Zn and Pb in drained rain gardens were higher than that in infiltrated ones. The accumulation of pollutants resulted in lower microbial diversity in drained rain gardens than in infiltrated rain gardens, but the microbial community structures were the same in all rain gardens. The effects of drainage type on microbial community evolution were not significant, only the accumulation of heavy metals led to changes in the abundance of dominant microorganisms. There were differences in the soil environment of rain gardens with different drainage types. The long-term operation of rain gardens led to fluctuations in the soil ecosystem, while the internal micro-ecosystems of the drained rain gardens were in unstable states.

Abstract Background Our previous study revealed marked differences in tongue images between individuals with gastric cancer and those without gastric cancer. However, the biological mechanism of tongue images as a disease indicator remains unclear. Tongue coating, a major factor in tongue appearance, is the visible layer on the tongue dorsum that provides a vital environment for oral microorganisms. While oral microorganisms are associated with gastric and intestinal diseases, the comprehensive function profiles of oral microbiota remain incompletely understood. Metaproteomics has unique strength in revealing functional profiles of microbiota that aid in comprehending the mechanism behind specific tongue coating formation and its role as an indicator of gastric cancer. Methods We employed pressure cycling technology and data-independent acquisition (PCT-DIA) mass spectrometry to extract and identify tongue-coating proteins from 180 gastric cancer patients and 185 non-gastric cancer patients across 5 independent research centers in China. Additionally, we investigated the temporal stability of tongue-coating proteins based on a time-series cohort. Finally, we constructed a machine learning model using the stochastic gradient boosting algorithm to identify individuals at high risk of gastric cancer based on tongue-coating microbial proteins. Results We measured 1432 human-derived proteins and 13,780 microbial proteins from 345 tongue-coating samples. The abundance of tongue-coating proteins exhibited high temporal stability within an individual. Notably, we observed the downregulation of human keratins KRT2 and KRT9 on the tongue surface, as well as the downregulation of ABC transporter COG1136 in microbiota, in gastric cancer patients. This suggests a decline in the defense capacity of the lingual mucosa. Finally, we established a machine learning model that employs 50 microbial proteins of tongue coating to identify individuals at a high risk of gastric cancer, achieving an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.91 in the independent validation cohort. Conclusions We characterized the alterations in tongue-coating proteins among gastric cancer patients and constructed a gastric cancer screening model based on microbial-derived tongue-coating proteins. Tongue-coating proteins are shown as a promising indicator for identifying high-risk groups for gastric cancer. Video Abstract

BackgroundImproving health care in cities with a diverse, international population is crucial for ensuring health equity, particularly for foreigners facing challenges due to cultural and language barriers. This situation is especially relevant in China, a major destination for expatriates and travelers, where optimizing health care services and incorporating international standards in the public sector are vital. Achieving this involves understanding the operational details, cultural and linguistic nuances, and advancing medical digitalization. A strategic approach focusing on cultural competence and awareness of health care systems is essential for effectively navigating health care for foreigners and expatriates in China. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to perform an in-depth analysis of the subjective and objective experiences of local and international patients in public hospitals in China to provide a basis for enhancing the medical experience of all patients. MethodsA structured questionnaire was provided to patients at an international outpatient service of a top-tier university hospital in China. Qualitative analysis of the survey responses was performed to methodically categorize and analyze medical treatment, focusing on patient demand and satisfaction across four main category elements (“high demand, high satisfaction”; “high demand, low satisfaction”; “low demand, high satisfaction”; and “low demand, low satisfaction”), enabling a detailed cross-sectional analysis to identify areas for improvement. ResultsElements falling under “high demand, high satisfaction” for both Chinese and international patients were primarily in the realms of medical quality and treatment processes. In contrast, elements identified as “high demand, low satisfaction” were significantly different between the two patient groups. ConclusionsThe findings highlight the importance of systematic, objective research in advancing the quality of international health care services within China’s leading academic medical centers. Key to this improvement is rigorous quality control involving both patients and providers. This study highlights the necessity of certifying such centers and emphasizes the role of digital platforms in disseminating information about medical services. This strategy is expected to cater to diverse patient needs, enhancing the overall patient experience. Furthermore, by developing comprehensive diagnosis and treatment services and highlighting the superior quality and costs associated with international health care, these efforts aim to foster a sense of belonging among international patients and increase the attractiveness of China’s medical services for this demographic.

Abstract With rapid economic development and urbanization in China, rural wastewater treatment has become an important issue. This study investigated 63 rural sewage treatment stations in northern, central and southern Shaanxi, China for a 1-year period, 2021 to 2022. The main purpose of the research was to investigate the quality and discharge characteristics of rural sewage, along with current problems in rural wastewater treatment, in order to provide evidence for the optimal construction and operation of rural sewage treatment stations. We found that the biodegradability of rural wastewater is adequate, and BOD5/COD ratio in sewage was 0.4, which is suitable for biological treatment. It has obvious intermittent flow cut-off characteristics, and the range of cut-off duration of sewage was 6–16 h/d, which leads to poor pollutant removal efficiency (COD: 50.0 ± 29.2%, NH4 +-N: 46.0 ± 26.1%, TN: 38.5 ± 24.9% and TP: 38.3 ± 23.8%) in sewage treatment stations. In response to the above characteristics, the rural sewage biologically enhanced internal circulation treatment (BEICT) system was constructed. After 97 days of operation, the system has a stable removal effect on TN and TP with an average removal rate of 77.42% and 89.69%, respectively, under the condition of influent interruption for 12 h per day. The activated sludge of system maintained good activity and stable sedimentation performance during the whole experiment, with MLVSS/MLSS and SVI of 0.72 and 128 mL/g, respectively. This study can provide the basis and technical support for the accurate design of rural sewage treatment facilities, and has important significance for guiding the treatment of rural domestic sewage in China.

As global efforts to combat climate change intensify, agricultural emissions are increasingly scrutinized. Biogas slurry (BS), a by-product of agricultural waste, not only provides essential nutrients for crops but can also elevate soil nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. This study investigates the immediate and long-term impacts of BS application on N2O emissions, taking into account the frequency of application and evaluating the effectiveness of nitrification inhibitor 3,4-dimethylpyrazole-phosphate (DMPP) in reducing emissions. Through a microcosm incubation experiment with a 108 h robotized incubation-monitoring system, it was found that N2O emissions spiked immediately following a single BS application, with emissions decreasing within 30 days. Repeated BS applications yielded lower cumulative emissions. Elevated N2O emissions were linked to higher soil pH and ammonium (NH4+) levels, along with reduced nitrate (NO3−) concentrations after a single BS application. The combined application of BS and DMPP proved most effective in inhibiting nitrification and cumulative N2O emissions, achieving reductions of 63.0% and 94.6%, respectively. High soil pH, NH4+, and low NO3− were identified as pivotal factors in this effect. These findings highlight the need for mitigation strategies such as dilution or splitting applications to reduce emissions. Integrating BS with DMPP offers a sustainable approach to achieving both agricultural and environmental goals.

In order to explore a medium material for the efficient treatment of Pb(II) pollutants in groundwater, in this paper, mudstone is selected as the medium material, and the morphological structure of the mudstone is characterizes via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyses to study the feasibility of the mudstone adsorbing Pb(II) ions. Then, static adsorption experiments are carried out to investigate the removal effect of mudstone on Pb(II) in aqueous solutions under different conditions and to determine the optimal adsorption conditions. Finally, the results are fitted and analyzed using a thermodynamic model to explore the adsorption mechanism of the mudstone. The main results of this study are as follows. The main mineral composition of the mudstone used in the experiments includes CaCO3, SiO2, CaAl2O4·10H2O, and CaFe4O7. The specific surface area of the mudstone is as high as 23.027 m2·g−1, the pore size is 9.145 nm, and its surface structure is rough, with pores and fissures developed. The pore space and adsorption capacity of the mudstone were enhanced. When 1 g·L−1 of mudstone was added, the pH value of the solution was 6, the reaction time was 60 min, and the initial concentration of Pb(II) was 30 mg·L−1. The removal efficiency of Pb reached 84.5%, and the adsorption amount was 25.352 mg·g−1. For the removal of Pb(II) from the aqueous solution by the mudstone under different concentrations of Pb(II), the reaction was in accordance with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model, and the maximum adsorption amount reached 54.975 mg·g−1. The relationship between the removal of Pb(II) and the reaction time was in accordance with the pseudo-second-order rate model. The results of this study suggest that mudstone can be used for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous media.

Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of adrenoceptor agonists is a significant research topic in the fields of food safety and public health. Immunoassays are among the most widely used methods for detecting adrenoceptor agonists. In recent years, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy combined with immunoassay (SERS-IA) has become an effective technique for improving detection sensitivity. This review focuses on the innovation of Raman reporter molecules and substrate materials for the SERS-IA of adrenoceptor agonists. In addition, it also investigates the challenges involved in potentially applying SERS-IA in the detection of adrenoceptor agonists. Overall, this review provides insight into the design and application of SERS-IA for the detection of adrenoceptor agonists, which is critical for animal-derived food safety and public health.

Ichthyotoxic red tide is a problem that the world is facing and needs to solve. The use of antialgal compounds from marine macroalgae to suppress ichthyotoxic red tide is considered a promising biological control method. Antialgal substances were screened and isolated from Bangia fusco-purpurea, Gelidium amansii, Gloiopeltis furcate, Hizikia fusifarme, Laminaria japonica, Palmaria palmata, and Sargassum sp. to obtain new materials for the development of algaecides against ichthyotoxic red tide microalgae using bioactivity-guided isolation methods. The fractions of seven macroalgae exhibited selective inhibitory activities against Amphidinium carterae and Karenia mikimotoi, of which the ethyl acetate fractions had the strongest and broadest antialgal activities for the two tested red tide microalgae. Their inhibitory effects on A. carterae and K. mikimotoi were even stronger than that of potassium dichromate, such as ethyl acetate fractions of B. purpurea, H. fusifarme, and Sargassum sp. Thin-layer chromatography and ultraviolet spectroscopy were further carried out to screen the ethyl acetate fraction of Sargassum sp. Finally, a new glycolipid derivative, 2-O-eicosanoyl-3-O-(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-glycerol, was isolated and identified from Sargassum sp., and it was isolated for the first time from marine macroalgae. The significant antialgal effects of 2-O-eicosanoyl-3-O-(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-glycerol on A. carterae and K. mikimotoi were determined.

DNA methylation is a highly conserved epigenetic modification involved in many biological processes, including growth and development, stress response, and secondary metabolism. DNA demethylase (DNA-deMTase) genes have been identified in some plant species; however, there are no reports on the identification and analysis of DNA-deMTase genes in Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.). In this study, seven DNA-deMTases were identified in S. italica. These DNA-deMTase genes were divided into four subfamilies (DML5, DML4, DML3, and ROS1) by phylogenetic and gene structure analysis. Further analysis shows that the physical and chemical properties of these DNA-deMTases proteins are similar, contain the typical conserved domains of ENCO3c and are located in the nucleus. Furthermore, multiple cis-acting elements were observed in DNA-deMTases, including light responsiveness, phytohormone responsiveness, stress responsiveness, and elements related to plant growth and development. The DNA-deMTase genes are expressed in all tissues detected with certain tissue specificity. Then, we investigated the abundance of DNA-deMTase transcripts under abiotic stresses (cold, drought, salt, ABA, and MeJA). The results showed that different genes of DNA-deMTases were involved in the regulation of different abiotic stresses. In total, our findings will provide a basis for the roles of DNA-deMTase in response to abiotic stress.

Abstract Adipose derived stem cells (ADSCs) are popular in regenerative medicine due to their easy availability, low immunogenicity and lack of controversy regarding their ethical debate use. Although ADSCs can repair nerve damage, the oxidative microenvironment of damaged tissue can induce apoptosis of transplanted stem cells, which weakens the therapeutic efficacy of ADSCs. Resveratrol (Res) is a type of natural polyphenol compound that regulates the proliferation, senescence and differentiation of stem cells. Therefore, we investigated whether incubation of ADSCs with Res improves their to promote peripheral nerve regeneration. ADSCs were cultured in vitro and treated with H2O2 to establish an apoptosis model. The control, H2O2 and Res groups were set up. The cell survival rate was detected by the CCK-8 method. The TUNEL assay was used to detect the apoptosis of the cells. qRT‒PCR was used to analyze the expression of apoptosis-related mRNA, and the effect of Res on the proliferation of ADSCs was investigated. In vivo, 40 SD rats were randomly divided into the control, model, ADSCs and ADSC + Res groups, with 13 rats in each group. The sciatic nerve injury rat model was established by the clamp method. Gait was observed on Days 7, 14, 21, and 28. Sciatic nerve regeneration was detected on Day 28. Res had no effect on the proliferation of ADSCs, and the TUNEL assay confirmed that Res pretreatment could significantly improve H2O2-induced apoptosis in ADSCs. Compared with the control group, caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2 expression levels were significantly increased in the H2O2 group. Compared with the H2O2 group caspase-3 and Bax expression levels were significantly decreased, and Bcl-2 expression levels were significantly increased in ADSCs + Res group. At 4 weeks after surgery, the functional index of the sciatic nerve in the ADSCs + Res group was significantly higher than that in the model group. On Day 28, the average density of the sciatic nerve myelin sheath in the ADSCs + Res group was significantly increased compared with that in the model group, and Nissl staining showed that the number of motor neurons in the spinal cord was significant compared with that in the model group. Compared with the control group, the wet weight ratio of gastrocnemius muscle and muscle fiber area in ADSCs + Res group were significantly increased. Res enhanced the ability of ADSCs to promote sciatic nerve regeneration in rats.

In order to explore the extraction and activity of macroalge glycolipids, six macroalgae (Bangia fusco-purpurea, Gelidium amansii, Gloiopeltis furcata, Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis, Gracilaria sp. and Pyropia yezoensis) glycolipids were extracted with five different solvents firstly. Considering the yield and glycolipids concentration of extracts, Bangia fusco-purpurea, Gracilaria sp. and Pyropia yezoensis were selected from six species of marine macroalgae as the raw materials for the extraction of glycolipids. The effects of the volume score of methanol, solid–liquid ratio, extraction temperature, extraction time and ultrasonic power on the yield and glycolipids concentration of extracts of the above three macroalgae were analyzed through a series of single-factor experiments. By analyzing the antioxidant activity in vitro, moisture absorption and moisturizing activity, the extraction process of Bangia fusco-purpurea glycolipids was further optimized by response surface method to obtain suitable conditions for glycolipid extraction (solid-liquid ratio of 1:27 g/mL, extraction temperature of 48 °C, extraction time of 98 min and ultrasonic power of 450 W). Bangia fusco-purpurea extracts exhibited a certain scavenging effect on DPPH free radicals, as well as good moisture-absorption and moisture retaining activities. Two glycolipids were isolated from Bangia fusco-purpurea by liquid–liquid extraction, silica gel column chromatography and thin-layer chromatography, and they showed good scavenging activities against DPPH free radicals and total antioxidant capacity. Their scavenging activities against DPPH free radicals were about 60% at 1600 µg/mL, and total antioxidant capacity was better than that of Trolox. Among them, the moisturizing activity of a glycolipid was close to that of sorbierite and sodium alginate. These two glycolipids exhibited big application potential as food humectants and antioxidants.

High-performance overmodulation strategies for voltage source inverters (VSIs) can further broaden the operation range of machines. Among them, Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is worth researching as it performs well in digital implementation. This paper presents a detailed comparison of various SVPWM overmodulation strategies and analysis of their performance. It firstly briefly elaborates fundamental laws of two subspaces of five-phase VSIs. Then, it focuses on several overmodulation strategies. Their corresponding basic principles and main characteristics are researched, and conclusions are given. In addition, differences and relationships between them are proved and summarized. Lastly, comparative simulations and experiments were carried out and verify that in the overmodulation region, the output voltage distortion degree increases with the increase in modulation ratio, and strategies with more control degrees of freedom (CDFs) are capable of better controlling the third harmonic subspace, which means that higher-quality output voltage waveforms would be obtained.

In the context of accelerating urbanisation, the issue of urban stormwater flooding security has garnered increasing attention. Further development of urban stormwater management techniques is imperative to achieve more stable, precise, and expeditious simulation outcomes. The calibration of model parameters, which is a pivotal phase in stormwater simulation endeavours, is hampered by challenges such as substantial subjectivity, time intensiveness, and low efficiency. Therefore, this study introduces a parameter calibration model coupled with the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm III (NSGA-III). This model utilises the Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) and peak relative error (PE) values for various rainfall events as objective functions to calibrate and assess the study target. The two rainfalls used for rate determination had NSE values greater than 0.9 and absolute PE values less than 0.17; the rainfall used for validation had NSE values greater than 0.9 and absolute PE values less than 0.27. Thus, the results of the model for the rate determination of the parameters are reliable. In addition, the inverted generation distance and hypervolume values indicate that the iterative process of the algorithm during population evolution demonstrated stable iterative outcomes and ensured sound population quality. Both reach relative stability after 40 iterations. In conclusion, the proposed multi-objective parameter calibration model integrated with NSGA-III offers dependable calibration results and robust computational efficacy, presenting novel avenues and perspectives for urban stormwater model parameter calibration and simulation.

Flexible organic light-emitting diodes (FOLEDs) have promising potential for future wearable applications because of their exceptional mechanical flexibility. Silver nanowire (Ag NW) networks are the most promising candidates to replace indium tin oxide (ITO), which is limited by its poor bendability. In this study, three different methods including methanol impregnation, argon plasma treatment, and ultraviolet radiation were used to reduce the junction resistance of Ag NWs to optimize the flexible transparent electrodes (FTEs); which were prepared using Ag NWs and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS). Then, the optoelectronic properties of the FTEs were further improved by using a co-doped system of silver nanowires and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), the structure of which consisted of PET/Ag NWs: Ag NPs/PEDOT: PSS/DMSO. The largest FOM value of 1.42 × 10−2 ohm−1 and a low sheet resistance value of 13.86 ohm/sq were obtained using the optimized FTEs. The prepared FOLED based on the optimized FTEs had a luminous efficiency of 6.04 cd/A and a maximum EQE of 1.92%, and exhibited no observed decline in efficiency when reaching maximum luminance. After 500 bending tests, the luminance still reached 82% of the original value. It is demonstrated that the FTEs prepared via the co-doped system have excellent optoelectronic properties as well as high mechanical stability.

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are widely recognized as the forefront technology for displays and lighting technology. Now, the global OLED market is nearly mature, driven by the rising demand for superior displays in smartphones. In recent years, numerous strategies have been introduced and demonstrated to optimize the hole injection layer to further enhance the efficiency of OLEDs. In this paper, different methods of optimizing the hole injection layer were elucidated, including using a suitable hole injection material to minimize the hole injection barrier and match the energy level with the emission layer, exploring new preparation methods to optimize the structure of hole injection layer, and so on. Meanwhile, this article can help people to understand the current research progress and the challenges still faced in relation to the hole injection layer in OLEDs, providing future research directions to enhance the properties of OLEDs.

Aim: Chaihu-jia-Longgu-Muli-tang (CLM) is derived from “Shang Han Lun” and is traditionally prescribed for treating depression. However, there is still a lack of evidence for its antidepressant effects, and the underlying mechanism is also unclear. This study aimed to assess clinical evidence on the efficacy of CLM in patients with depression using a meta-analysis and to explore its underlying antidepressant molecular mechanisms via network pharmacology.Methods: Eight open databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the effects of CLM alone or combined with serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in patients with depression, evaluating the total effective rate of the treatment group (CLM alone or combined with SSRIs/SNRIs) and the control group (SNRIs or SSRIs), and comparing changes in depression scale, anxiety scale, sleep scale, inflammation indicators and adverse effects. Subsequently, the active ingredients and target genes of CLM were screened through six databases. Then Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and topology analysis were performed. Finally, Molecular docking was applied to evaluate the binding affinity between components and predicted targets.Results: Twenty-four RCTs with a total of 2,382 patients were included. For the efficacy of antidepression and adverse effects, whether CLM alone or in combination with SSRIs/SNRIs, the treatment group has no inferior to that of the control group. Additionally, the intervention of CLM + SSRI significantly improved the symptoms of anxiety and insomnia, and reduced serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels. For network pharmacology, a total of 129 compounds and 416 intersection targets in CLM were retrieved. The interaction pathway between CLM and depression is mainly enriched in PI3K-Akt, JAK-STAT, and NF-κB signaling pathway, PIK3R1, MAPK3, and AKT1 may be the potential targets of Stigmasterol, β-stiosterol, coumestrol.Conclusion: Compared to SSRIs/SNRIs alone, CLM is more effective and safe in treating depression. It not only significantly alleviates depressive mood, but improves symptoms such as anxiety and insomnia, with fewer side effects, especially in combination with SSRI. Its antidepressant mechanism may be correlated with the regulation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and inhibiting inflammatory response.

In general, chemical plants are accompanied by a variety of secondary production in the production process, which may have different degrees of impact on the environment. At the same time, in order to ensure the environmental safety of new urban construction land, it is necessary to conduct pollution investigation and further environmental risk assessment on potentially polluting abandoned chemical plants. This paper takes a chemical plant producing food grade fumaric acid in Northwest China as an example to investigate the pollution of organic matter in the soil in accordance with relevant standards, then analyzes the vertical pollution degree of key pollution areas. The calculation results of single factor pollution index and Nemerow pollution index show that there are 17 kinds of organic pollutants that exceed the screening value in land of Class I. Among them, benzene, 1,2,3-trichloropropane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane are most serious, and the highest exceeded the standard by 11,311 times. Moreover, the distillation zone and the reactor zone have reached the level of V pollution, and the maximum pollution depth can reach more than 6 m. The results of HERA software analysis showed that there were 18 and 10 kinds of organic pollutants with carcinogenic risk values exceeding 10−6 in the reactor and distillation area, respectively, and 25 and 11 kinds of organic pollutants with hazard quotients exceeding 1, respectively. According to relevant regulations, the contaminated areas with unacceptable regional risks must be properly repaired.

As there are a large number of risk factors affecting green innovation under the global value chain, the screening of risk indicators is a key link in developing green innovation activities. Through the analysis of the influencing factors of current green innovation risk, the primary index of green innovation risk is established. The group decision characteristic root method is used to identify the key importance of primary indicators of green innovation risk and construct the global value chain’s green innovation risk index system, which provides a scientific method and new ideas for measuring and evaluating green innovation risk in the global value chain. The empirical results of this paper are as follows: 1) green R&D risk measurement indicators under the global value chain include the proportion of global green R&D personnel investment, the proportion of global green R&D capital investment, the stability of global green R&D in manufacturing, the ease of international transfer of green technology, and the international protection of green technology patents; 2) Green manufacturing risk measurement indicators under the global value chain have seven risk factors: the proportion of global green manufacturing personnel investment, the proportion of global green manufacturing capital investment, the global green manufacturing product production scale, the global green manufacturing product quality performance level, the global outsourcing scale of green products, the global green manufacturing technology transformation degree of manufacturing industry, and the global green manufacturing cost increase; 3) green marketing risk measurement indicators under the global value chain have seven risk factors: the proportion of global green marketing personnel investment, the proportion of global green marketing capital investment, the international demand level for green products, the international market competition intensity of green products, the possession of green products to existing international marketing channels, the commercialization and internationalization level of green technology, and the intensity of green technical barriers to trade in the international community; and 4) green service risk measurement indicators under the global value chain have five risk factors: the proportion of global green service personnel investment, the proportion of global green service capital investment, the 1coverage of global green service outlets, the globalization level of global green product supply chain, and the global after-sales technical service capability of green products.

Reasonable application of organic-inorganic soil conditioners can effectively improve the structure and fertility of reclaimed soil in abandoned homestead. Aggregate stability is an important indicator to evaluate soil structure and fertility, and is largely influenced by soil internal forces (van der Waals attractive force, electrostatic repulsive force, hydration repulsive force) and particle surface properties. However, there are few studies on the influence of different soil conditioners on the reclaimed soil internal forces and its relationship with the aggregate stability. Therefore, we selected six different treatments of organic fertilizer (TO), fly ash (TF), maturing agent (TM), maturing agent + organic fertilizer (TMO), fly ash + organic fertilizer (TFO) and control (CK) to conduct a 5-year field experiment to study the effects of reclaimed soil particle interaction forces and surface characteristics on aggregate stability under the treatment of different soil conditioners. The results showed that with the application of soil conditioners, the soil organic matter (SOM), specific surface area (SSA), surface charge (σ0), cation exchange capacity (CEC), aggregate mean weight diameter (MWD) and Hamaker constant increased gradually, while the pH value decreased slightly. In particular, the MWD under the treatments of TFO and TMO increased by 150.3% and 65.6% respectively compared with that under the CK treatment. With the increasing application of soil conditioners, the electrostatic repulsive force and van der Waals attractive force between reclaimed soil particles increased constantly, but the net resultant force between particles decreased and the net attractive force increased continuously, thus improving the aggregate stability. Therefore, there is a significant negative correlation between the net resultant force among reclaimed soil particles and MWD and CEC. In addition, 10−2 mol L-1 is the critical concentration that affects the reclaimed soil internal force, and the organic-inorganic treatments of TFO and TMO can improve the net resultant force better. In a word, the particle interaction forces are important factors affecting the reclaimed soil structural stability, and this study provides a scientific reference for the rational selection of soil conditioners and its interaction force mechanism in the reclaimed soil improvement.

Marine macroalgae is one of the good sources of mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs), especially red macroalgae. As a new type of active substances with commercial development prospect, extraction, isolation and characterization of MAAs are far from enough for the application. To obtain the extraction process of MAAs from four species of red macroalgae (Bangia fusco-purpurea, Gelidium amansii, Gracilaria confervoides, and Gracilaria sp.), a series of single-factor and orthogonal experiments were carried out to analyze the effects of extraction temperature, time, times and solid-liquid ratio on the yields of MAAs. The extraction process of MAAs was optimized, and the extracts were isolated and identified. The optimized extraction processes of MAAs were obtained as follows: 45 ℃, 3 h, 4 times, 1:25 g/mL. 45 ℃, 1 h, 4 times, 1:20 g/mL. 45 ℃, 2 h, 3 times, 1:15 g/mL. 40 ℃, 1 h, 3 times, 1:20 g/mL. Four MAAs extracts of red algae were prepared by using the above extraction process, and the yields were 249.3, 197.9, 146.4 and 449.5 mg/g, respectively. All of them showed UV absorption characteristics and color reaction of MAAs in UV spectrum and thin layer chromatography (TLC). Furthermore, MAAs extracts from Bangia fusco-purpurea (or Gracilaria sp.) were isolated by silica gel column chromatography to obtain one fraction H1 (or two fractions J1 and J2). MAAs composition and proportion of these fractions were determined by UV, HPLC and MS, and comparison with existing literatures. H1 included shinorine, palythine and porphyra-334 (the content of these three MAAs was 95.4% of the content of the fraction H1), and palythenic acid (4.6%). Shinorine, palythine, porphyra-334 (96.3% of the fraction J1), and palythenic acid (3.7%) were in J1. And J2 was palythine.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), creating a global infection rate over 50%, presents great challenges in clinical therapies due to its complex pathological microenvironment in vivo. To improve the eradication efficacy, herein we fabricated a pharmaceutical vesicle RHL/Cl-Ch-cal where cholesterol-PEG, calcitriol and first-line antibiotic clarithromycin were co-loaded in the rhamnolipid-composed outer lipid layer. RHL/Cl-Ch-cal could quickly penetrate through gastric mucus layer to reach H. pylori infection sites, and then effectively destroyed the architecture of H. pylori biofilms, killed dispersed H. pylori and inhibited the re-adhesion of residual bacteria (called biofilms eradication tetralogy). Moreover, RHL/Cl-Ch-cal activated the host immune response to H. pylori by replenishing cholesterol to repair lipid raft on the cell membrane of host epithelial cells. Finally, RHL/Cl-Ch-cal killed the intracellular H. pylori through recovering the lysosomal acidification and assisting degradation. In experiments, RHL/Cl-Ch-cal demonstrated prominent anti-H. pylori efficacy in the classical H. pylori-infected mice model. Therefore, the study provides a “comprehensive attack” strategy for anti-H. pylori therapies including biofilms eradication tetralogy, immune activation and intracellular bacteria killing.

Abstract The ecological environment in Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi is fragile, so the soil pollution caused by the exploitation of coal resources cannot be ignored. With Shigetai Coal Mine in Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi as the object of study for field survey and sampling, the content of heavy metals in soil is analyzed, the environmental pollution in the research area is evaluated by the single factor pollution index method, comprehensive pollution index method and potential ecological risk index method, and the spatial distribution characteristics of heavy metals are discussed by the geostatistics method. According to the study results, the average contents of heavy metals Hg, Cd, Pb and Cr are 2.03, 1.36, 1.11 and 1.23 times of the soil background values in Shaanxi Province respectively and the average contents of other heavy metals are lower than the soil background values in Shaanxi Province; Hg and Cd show moderate variation while As, Pb, Cr, Zn, Ni and Cu show strong variation; the skewness coefficients and kurtosis coefficient of Cd, As and Cu in the soil within the research area are relatively high, and these elements are accumulated in large amounts. Single factor pollution index (Pi) and potential ecological risk index (E) indicate that heavy metal Hg is the main pollution factor and mainly distributed in the east and north of the research area. The comprehensive index of potential ecological risk (RI) of the research area is 1336.49, showing an extremely high ecological risk, and the distribution characteristics of potential ecological risk are consistent with that of potential ecological risk index (E) of Hg. The results of ecological risk warning show that Hg is in a slight warning status, while Cd, Pb and Cr are in a warning status. The areas with high ecological risk warning values are mainly distributed in the east and north, and the whole research area shows relatively obvious zonal distribution law. The soil is disturbed greatly during the coal mining, so the ecological governance of the mine area shall adapt to the local natural conditions and regional environmental characteristics and follow the principle of “adjusting governance measures based on specific local conditions and classifications”. An environmentally sustainable governance manner shall be adopted to realize the protection of the ecological environment and high-quality development of coal resources.

CO2 flooding is a pivotal technique for significantly enhancing oil recovery in low-permeability reservoirs. The movement and sweeping rules at the front of CO2 flooding play a critical role in oil recovery; yet, a comprehensive quantitative analysis remains an area in need of refinement. In this study, we developed 1-D and 2-D numerical simulation models to explore the sweeping behavior of miscible, immiscible, and partly miscible CO2 flooding patterns. The front position and movement rules of the three CO2 flooding patterns were determined. A novel approach to the contour area calculation method was introduced to quantitatively characterize the sweep coefficients, and the sweeping rules are discussed regarding the geological parameters, oil viscosity, and injection–production parameters. Furthermore, the Random Forest (RF) algorithm was employed to identify the controlling factor of the sweep coefficient, as determined through the use of out-of-bag (OOB) data permutation analysis. The results showed that the miscible front was located at the point of maximum CO2 content in the oil phase. The immiscible front occurred at the point of maximum interfacial tension near the production well. Remarkably, the immiscible front moved at a faster rate compared with the miscible front. Geological parameters, including porosity, permeability, and reservoir thickness, significantly impacted the gravity segregation effect, thereby influencing the CO2 sweep coefficient. Immiscible flooding exhibited the highest degree of gravity segregation, with a maximum gravity segregation degree (GSD) reaching 78.1. The permeability ratio was a crucial factor, with a lower limit of approximately 5.0 for reservoirs suitable for CO2 flooding. Injection–production parameters also played a pivotal role in terms of the sweep coefficient. Decreased well spacing and increased gas injection rates were found to enhance sweep coefficients by suppressing gravity segregation. Additionally, higher gas injection rates could improve the miscibility degree of partly miscible flooding from 0.69 to 1.0. Oil viscosity proved to be a significant factor influencing the sweep coefficients, with high seepage resistance due to increasing oil viscosity dominating the miscible and partly miscible flooding patterns. Conversely, gravity segregation primarily governed the sweep coefficient in immiscible flooding. In terms of controlling factors, the permeability ratio emerged as a paramount influence, with a factor importance value (FI) reaching 1.04. The findings of this study can help for a better understanding of sweeping rules of CO2 flooding and providing valuable insights for optimizing oil recovery strategies in the field applications of CO2 flooding.

The carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technique is widely applied in order to solve energy shortages and global warming, in which CO2 storage plays an important part. Herein, the CO2 storage in reservoir pores with a dead-end is investigated using a molecular dynamics simulation. The results indicate that, when a CO2 molecule flows through a reservoir pore towards its dead-end, it is readily captured inside said dead-end. When the pressure difference of the CO2 injection increases, the transport speed of the CO2 becomes faster, and the storage efficiency increases. The rate constants for the absorption of the carbon dioxide at 5 MPa, 10 MPa, and 15 MPa are 0.47 m/s, 2.1 m/s, and 3.1 m/s. With the same main channel, a narrower dead-end with less oil molecules would cause a smaller spatial potential resistance, which would lead to a faster CO2 replacement and storage process. The 3 nm main channel with a 1.5 nm dead-end model had the highest absorption rate of 5.3 m/s out of the three sets of models with different dead-ends. When the dead-end’s width was constant, the rate constants for the absorption of carbon dioxide in the 6 nm main channel with a 1.5 nm dead-end model was 1.8 m/s, which was higher than that of the 3 nm–1.5 nm model. This study investigates the mechanism of CO2 storage in reservoir pores with a dead-end at the molecular level and provides a scientific basis for the practical application of CO2 storage.

Abstract In order to solve the soil problem of poor structure and low fertility after the abandoned homestead reclamation of Hollow Village in Loess Area and to improve the quality of the reclaimed soil in Hollow Village, a five-year field experiment was conducted here. In this experiment, the following seven treatments were applied: no modified material (CK), maturing agent (TM), fly ash (TF), organic fertilizer (TO), maturing agent + fly ash (TMF), maturing agent + organic fertilizer (TMO) and fly ash + organic fertilizer (TFO), and the effects of different improved materials on soil properties and crop yield were studied. The results showed that: soil organic matter (SOM) and total nitrogen contents increased significantly after the application of different improved materials, which promoted the cementation and aggregation of water-stable microaggregates ( 2 mm water-stable aggregates and a significant negative correlation with the E LT , D, and water-stable microaggregates. In particular, the organic–inorganic coupling treatment of TFO showed the highest SOM content, soil moisture content, water-stable macroaggregates and maize yield, which was the most appropriate amendment for improving the reclaimed soil structure and fertility of Hollow Village in Loess Area.

Abstract Tumors modify myeloid cell differentiation and induce an immunosuppressive microenvironment. Granulocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (G-MDSCs), the main subgroup of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), are immature myeloid cells (IMCs) with immunosuppressive activity and exist in tumor-bearing hosts. The reason why these cells diverge from a normal differentiation pathway and are shaped into immunosuppressive cells remains unclear. Here, we reported that the increase of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) in mouse serum with tumor progression encouraged G-MDSCs to obtain immunosuppressive traits in peripheral blood through the PI3K-Akt/mTOR pathway. Importantly, we found that downregulation of type I interferon (IFN-I) signaling in G-MDSCs was a prerequisite for their immunosuppressive effects. Suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS1), the action of which is dependent on IFN-I signaling, inhibited the activation of the PI3K-Akt/mTOR pathway by directly interacting with Akt, indicating that the differentiation of immunosuppressive G-MDSCs involves a transition from immune activation to immune tolerance. Our study suggests that increasing IFN-I signaling in G-MDSCs may be a strategy for reprograming immunosuppressive myelopoiesis and slowing tumor progression.

Separate-layer CO2 flooding has increasingly been used to improve the overall development of multi-layer heterogeneous reservoirs. Due to their field technical limitations, layer combinations have to be carried out to reduce the number of layer-groups required for the separate injection of CO2. Currently there are few studies of the method of designing layer combinations. In field practice, the layer combinations are often made based on the permeability ratio of the layers to be developed, but it is not possible to accurately obtain the optimal scheme in many cases. Therefore, in this paper, a new design and optimization method based on the weighted standard deviation of permeability is proposed, which comprehensively considers the effects of multiple geological and fluid properties in different layers. The new method is applied to study the layer combination schemes in separate-layer CO2 flooding in H block, Daqingzijing Oilfield, Jilin, China. The prioritization of all of the schemes is obtained via the method, and a related numerical model is also established to perform verification and quantitative analysis. The results show that designing layer combinations using the new proposed method can achieve better development effect than using the conventional permeability ratio based method. It can achieve a more uniform interlayer CO2 displacement with an obvious improvement in the CO2 swept volume in low permeability layers and a higher overall oil recovery. According to the numerical simulation results, using the optimal layer combination scheme designed via the new proposed method, the ten-year swept volume of CO2 in the low permeability layer can be increased by 16.2%, and the ten-year overall oil recovery efficiency can be increased by 3.3%, with both measures showing a remarkable improvement. The work can provide a significant reference point for the field design of layer combinations in separate-layer CO2 flooding.

Aggregate stability is a key factor in the evaluation of soil structure and erosion resistance, which is largely influenced by soil electric field and particle interaction. However, there are few studies on how different organic and inorganic soil conditioners change the surface electric field and interaction force of reclaimed soil to improve the aggregate stability. Therefore, a five-year field experiment was conducted to quantitatively study the effects of FeSO4 (TM), organic fertilizer (TO), fly ash (TF), maturing agent + organic fertilizer (TMO) and fly ash + organic fertilizer (TFO), compared with control (CK) treatment, on the reclaimed soil internal force and the aggregate crushing strength. The results showed that the reclaimed soil surface potential and electric field intensity increased after 5 years of application of organic and inorganic soil conditioners. Under the same electrolyte concentration and electric field conditions, the crushing strength of aggregates (p < 0.01). Generally speaking, the soil conditioners increase the net attractive force between particles, reduce the possibility of violent crushing of aggregates due to the increase of electric field intensity and improve the aggregate structural stability, among which the combined application of organic and inorganic soil conditioners has a better improvement effect. The results of this study will lay a theoretical foundation for clarifying the improvement of different soil conditioners on the reclaimed soil structural stability and erosion resistance.

Infiltration of stormwater through green surfaces is an important means of groundwater recharge. However, the increase in constructed impervious area caused by intensive urbanization has led to a reduction in rainwater infiltration over the past decade. The constructed rapid infiltration system (CRIS) with an ample open space plays an important role in groundwater recharge. This study aims to explore the influence of stormwater (roof runoff) concentration infiltration on the groundwater table and quality in the CRIS. Groundwater table monitoring is conducted for more than 2 years (October 2017–December 2019) by continuous online monitoring combined with manual sampling. Results show that the addition of zeolite to the CRIS has a good removal effect on rainfall runoff pollutants, and the influence of stormwater concentration infiltration on groundwater quality is small when the CRIS enters the stable running stage. The increased proportion of chemical oxygen demand, N, and P in J1 are all less than 10% from 2018 to 2019, and they are less than 20% for heavy metals. The stormwater concentration infiltration can recharge groundwater and increase the groundwater depth, and the groundwater depth varies from 0.5 m to 1.5 m during the monitoring period. The influence scope of the concentrated infiltration on the groundwater table and quality is between 25 and 45 m. The response of the groundwater table and quality to the stormwater concentration infiltration of J1, 25 m away from the CRIS, exhibits hysteresis, and the lag time is about 3–4 months. Conclusion from relevant research can provide important theoretical support for the further study of groundwater recharge by the CRIS.

Harnessing environment-friendly and low-cost multinary Cu-In-Zn-S quantum dots (QDs) as emitters for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) has attracted great attention for display and lighting application. However, suboptimal QD structure is a huge obstacle, which results in serious non-radiative recombination and efficiency roll-off. Herein, we synthesized structure-tailored Cu-In-Zn-S/ZnS//ZnS QDs by improving the reactivity of shell growth by 2-ethylhexanoic acid (EHA) ligands. The EHA-assisted shell growth can boost an extended alloyed layer at the core-shell interface and a smoothed confinement barrier, which effectively passivate the interface defects and suppress Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process. These synthesized QDs display a bright photoluminescence emission (quantum yield of 83%) and a larger size of 8.4 nm. Moreover, the resulting LEDs based on the EHA-assisted QDs exhibit a maximum luminance of 8074 cd/m2, and a current efficiency of 7.3 cd/A with a low efficiency roll-off. Our results highlight a remarkable ligand strategy to tailor the QD structure for high performance QD-based LEDs.

BackgroundThe roles and potential diagnostic value of circRNAs in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) remain elusive.MethodsThis study aims to investigate the expression profiles of circRNAs by RNA sequencing and RT–PCR in a discovery cohort and an independent validation cohort. Bioinformatics analysis was performed to identify the potential functions of circRNA host genes. Machine learning classification models were used to assess circRNAs as potential biomarkers of ICH.ResultsA total of 125 and 284 differentially expressed circRNAs (fold change > 1.5 and FDR < 0.05) were found between ICH patients and healthy controls in the discovery and validation cohorts, respectively. Nine circRNAs were consistently altered in ICH patients compared to healthy controls. The combination of the novel circERBB2 and circCHST12 in ICH patients and healthy controls showed an area under the curve of 0.917 (95% CI: 0.869–0.965), with a sensitivity of 87.5% and a specificity of 82%. In combination with ICH risk factors, circRNAs improved the performance in discriminating ICH patients from healthy controls. Together with hsa_circ_0005505, two novel circRNAs for differentiating between patients with ICH and healthy controls showed an AUC of 0.946 (95% CI: 0.910–0.982), with a sensitivity of 89.1% and a specificity of 86%.ConclusionWe provided a transcriptome-wide overview of aberrantly expressed circRNAs in ICH patients and identified hsa_circ_0005505 and novel circERBB2 and circCHST12 as potential biomarkers for diagnosing ICH.

IntroductionJob insecurity such as loss of jobs or reduced wages has become a serious social problem in the US since COVID-19 started. Combined with psychological distress and experience of COVID-19 symptoms, the changes of people’s protective behaviors vary across states in the US.MethodsThis research investigated racial differences in the COVID-19 related factors among White, Black, and other minorities in the US, and examined how mental health mediated the impact of job insecurity on protective behaviors, and how the COVID-19 symptoms moderated the mediation effect of mental health. The 731 valid responses in a cross-sectional survey from May 23 to 27, 2020, in the US were analyzed with independent sample t-tests, Pearson’s chi-square tests, and path analysis.ResultsThe findings showed that there were significant differences in job insecurity and Nonpharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) practice among White, Black, and other minorities. Job insecurity was significantly negatively associated with NPIs practice and was significantly positively associated with mental health. Mental health significantly partially mediated the effect of job insecurity on NPIs practice, in that job insecurity is a better predictor of NPIs practice for individuals with worse mental health than that for individuals with better mental health. Experience of COVID-19 symptoms moderates the mediation effect of mental health on the relationship between job insecurity and NPIs practice, in that mental health is a better predictor of NPIs practice for individuals with a higher experience of COVID-19 symptoms than for individuals with a lower experience of COVID-19 symptoms.DiscussionThe findings in this study shed lights on psychological and behavioral studies of people’s behavior changes during a pandemic. The study indicates the importance of treating mental health to promote protective behaviors during a pandemic, as well as advocating for employees by identifying the needs for those whose jobs were negatively impacted the most.

Cultivated land is an important prerequisite and guarantee for food production and security, and the change of cultivated land resources in China has always been concerned. National land survey is an effective way to accurately grasp the area and distribution of cultivated land resources. However, due to the differences in technical means and statistical standards at different stages, there are obvious breakpoints among the cultivated land area data of the three land surveys in China, which hinders the in-depth study of the spatio-temporal distribution of cultivated land resources in long-time series. The Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model is used to reconstruct and mine the cultivated land area data from 1996 to 2019 based on the data of the third land survey in China. The spatio-temporal variation characteristics of cultivated land area are explored by using Geographic Information System spatial analysis, and the driving factors of cultivated land change are analyzed based on Geographical Detector (GeoDetector) from the perspective of social, economic, agricultural and natural. The results show that the area of cultivated land in China decreased continuously from 1996 to 2019, with a sharp decrease from 1996 to 2004 and a slow decrease from 2005 to 2019. From 1996 to 2019, there were obvious spatial differences in the change of cultivated land area in 31 provincial units. From 1996 to 2008, the cultivated land area in 29 provinces showed a downward trend, especially in the central and northern regions such as Shaanxi, Sichuan and Inner Mongolia. From 2008 to 2019, the cultivated land area in the underdeveloped areas of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Xinjiang, Gansu and Tibet increased significantly, while the rest showed a downward trend. Factor detection found that the q values of population, regional gross domestic product grain output, the proportion of the added value of the primary industry and average slope were all more than 0.5, which had an important impact on the change of cultivated land area. The explanatory power of the interaction between factors on the change of cultivated land area is enhanced in different degrees compared with the single factor effect, which is manifested in the enhancement of bilinear or nonlinear enhancement, and the interaction of different factors promotes the change of cultivated land area. The change of cultivated land area is the result of complex interaction between factors, and is closely related to the land policy in the same period.

In the past decade, studies on the remediation of heavy metals contaminated soil by microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have attracted broad attention because of the self-generated power and their multifield principles such as the extracellular electron transfer (EET) reduction, electromigration for heavy metals removal. However, given the bio electro-motive power from soil MFCs is weak and fluctuated during the remediation, we need to comprehensively understand the origination of driving force in MFC based on the analysis of the fundamental rationale of ion moving in cells and improve the performance via the appropriate configurations and operations. In this review, we first described the structures of soil MFCs for heavy metals remediation and compared the advantages of different types of configurations. Then, based on the theoretical models of heavy metal migration, enrichment, and reduction in soil MFCs, the optimization of soil MFCs including the length of the remediation area, soil conductivity, control of electrode reaction, and modification of electrodes were proposed. Accordingly, this review contributes to the application of bioelectrochemistry to efficiently remove heavy metals from soils.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is an efficient and non-destructive test for analyzing the bioelectrochemical processes of microbial fuel cells (MFCs). The key factors limiting the output performance of an MFC can be identified by quantifying the contribution of its various internal parts to the total impedance. However, little attention has been paid to the measurement conditions and diagrammatic processes of the EIS for MFC. This review, starting with the analysis of admittance of bioelectrode, introduces conditions for the EIS measurement and summarizes the representative equivalent circuit plots for MFC. Despite the impedance from electron transfer and diffusion process, the effect of unnoticeable capacitance obtained from the Nyquist plot on MFCs performance is evaluated. Furthermore, given that distribution of relaxation times (DRT) is an emerging method for deconvoluting EIS data in the field of fuel cell, the application of DRT-analysis to MFC is reviewed here to get insight into bioelectrode reactions and monitor the biofilm formation. Generally, EIS measurement is expected to optimize the construction and compositions of MFCs to overcome the low power generation.

Abstract Background T-2 toxin is a mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species that is highly toxic to animals. Recent studies have indicated that Selenomethionine (SeMet) have protective effect against mycotoxins-induced toxicity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of SeMet on T-2-toxin-induced liver injury in rabbit and explore its molecular mechanism. Fifty rabbits (30 d, 0.5 ± 0.1 kg) were randomly divided into 5 groups: control group, T-2 toxin group, low, medium and high dose SeMet treatment group. The SeMet-treated group was orally pretreated with SeMet (containing selenium 0.2 mg/kg, 0.4 mg/kg and 0.6 mg/kg) for 21 days. On the 17th day, T-2 toxin group and SeMet-treated group were orally administered with T-2 toxin (0.4 mg/kg body weight) for 5 consecutive days. Results The results showed that low-dose SeMet significantly improved T-2 toxin-induced liver injury. We found that low-dose SeMet can reduce the level of oxidative stress and the number of hepatocyte apoptosis. Moreover, the levels of Bax, caspase-3 and caspase-9 were significantly reduced and the levels of Bcl-2 were increased. Conclusions Therefore, we confirmed that low-dose SeMet may protect rabbit hepatocytes from T-2 toxin by inhibiting the mitochondrial-caspase apoptosis pathway.

Abstract Ring1b is a core subunit of polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) and is essential in several high-risk cancers. However, the epigenetic mechanism of Ring1b underlying breast cancer malignancy is poorly understood. In this study, we showed increased expression of Ring1b promoted metastasis by weakening cell–cell adhesions of breast cancer cells. We confirmed that Ring1b could downregulate E-cadherin and contributed to an epigenetic rewiring via PRC1-dependent function by forming distinct complexes with DEAD-box RNA helicases (DDXs) or epithelial-mesenchymal transition transcription factors (EMT TFs) on site-specific loci of E-cadherin promoter. DDXs-Ring1b complexes moderately inhibited E-cadherin, which resulted in an early hybrid EMT state of epithelial cells, and EMT TFs-Ring1b complexes cooperated with DDXs-Ring1b complexes to further repress E-cadherin in mesenchymal-like cancer cells. Clinically, high expression of Ring1b with DDXs or EMT TFs predicted low levels of E-cadherin, metastatic behavior, and poor prognosis. These findings provide an epigenetic regulation mechanism of Ring1b complexes in E-cadherin expression. Ring1b complexes may be potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis in invasion breast cancer.

Abstract Host proteins interacting with pathogens are receiving more attention as potential therapeutic targets in molecular medicine. Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (SS2) is an important cause of meningitis in both humans and pigs worldwide. SS2 Enolase (Eno) has previously been identified as a virulence factor with a role in altering blood brain barrier (BBB) integrity, but the host cell membrane receptor of Eno and The mechanism(s) involved are unclear. This study identified that SS2 Eno binds to 40S ribosomal protein SA (RPSA) on the surface of porcine brain microvascular endothelial cells leading to activation of intracellular p38/ERK-eIF4E signalling, which promotes intracellular expression of HSPD1 (heat-shock protein family D member 1), and initiation of host-cell apoptosis, and increased BBB permeability facilitating bacterial invasion. This study reveals novel functions for the host-interactional molecules RPSA and HSPD1 in BBB integrity, and provides insight for new therapeutic strategies in meningitis.

Abstract Eight dryland winter wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.), which were widely cultivated from the 1940s to the 2010s in Shaanxi Province, China, were selected and grown in plots, and two water treatments (irrigation and drought) were used to identify the contribution of ears, leaves and stems to grain weight and grain number associated with cultivar replacement. The plant height and stem dry weight of the dryland wheat decreased significantly during the cultivar replacement process, but there was a remarkable increase in the dry matter translocation of stems under irrigation. Shaded-ear and defoliation treatment could decrease the grain number and grain weight, and the grain weight was more influenced. Both the leaf and ear are important photosynthetic sources for dryland wheat, and the contribution of ear assimilates showed a significant increase over time; however, the contribution of leaf assimilates showed a negative correlation with cultivation over time. The accumulation of stem assimilates and ear photosynthesis both increased the grain weight potential. In the future breeding process, cultivars with more assimilates stored in the stem and greater assimilative capacity of ears, especially a greater contribution of ear assimilates, are expected to increase the grain yield.

To optimize the energy efficiency of edge computing system with energy harvesting, this paper proposes an energy-efficient task offloading method optimized by differential evolution. First, a wireless edge computing network model is established to analyze the energy harvesting, task offloading and task calculation of the system, as well as the total number of calculated bits and total energy consumption of the system. Second, according to the total number of calculated bits and total energy consumption of the system, an objective function is established to optimize the energy efficiency of system, and a differential evolution based optimization method is proposed, with which the optimal energy efficiency of system calculation, offloading time, calculation time and frequency are obtained. Experimental results show that the proposed method can not only achieve better convergence effect, but also can effectively solve the energy shortage problem of the micro-equipment and extend the service life of the equipment.

EGFR mutations are common in non-small cell lung cancer and patients with these mutations are treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Here, the authors show that EGFR mutation status can be predicted from 18F-FDG-PET/CT images, which may enable the stratification of patients for treatment.
