In museums, exhibition content focuses mostly on cultural heritage’s historical values and functions, but doing so tends to limit visitors’ interest and immersion. To counter this limitation, the study developed an experiential media art exhibition fusing bronze mirrors’ traditional production technology and modern conservation science. First, for the exhibition system, scientific cultural heritage contents were projected on the three-dimensional (3D) printed bronze mirror through interactions between motion recognition digital information display (DID) and the projector. Then, a scenario of 17 missions in four stages (production process, corrosion mechanism, scientific analysis and diagnosis, and conservation treatment and restoration) was prepared according to the temporal spectrum. Additionally, various media art effects and interaction technologies were developed, so visitors could understand and become immersed in bronze mirrors’ scientific content. A user test was evaluated through the living lab, reflecting generally high levels of satisfaction (90.2 points). Qualitative evaluation was generally positive, with comments such as “easy to understand and useful as the esoteric science exhibition was combined with media art” (16.7%), “wonderful and interesting” (11.7%), and “firsthand experience was good” (9.2%). By combining an esoteric science exhibition centered on principles and theories with visual media art and by developing an immersive directing method to provide high-level exhibition technology, the exhibition induced visitors’ active participation. This exhibition’s content can become an important platform for expanding universal museum exhibitions on archaeology, history, and art into conservation science.

We have tried the experimental research of lost-wax casting to reconstruct Gilt-Bronze Pensive Bodhisattva; preliminary and reconstruction experiment based on ancient texts. Main object to reconstruct is Korean National Treasure No.83, Gilt-Bronze Pensive Bodhisattva (Maitreya), then we measure alloy ratio and casting method based on the scientific analysis. Other impurities were removed from the base metal components(copper : tin : lead) and their ratio was set to 95.5 : 6.5 : 3 where the ratios for tin and lead were increased by 2.5% each. The piece-mold casting method was used, and piece-mold casting experiments were carried out twice in this study but supplementary research on piece-mold casting was necessary. The microstructure was confirmed to be typical cast microstructure and the component analysis result was similar to that of the prior study. Analysis of the chemical composition is confirmed to copper, tin, lead, and zinc, and the chemical composition of the matrix was 87.8%Cu-7.5%Sn-2.7%Pb-2.1%Zn, and similar to previous experimental research. Also resulted in the detection of small impurity in Zn. Analysis of the mould revealed that the mould was fabricated by adding quartz and organic matter for structural stability, fire resistance, and air permeability. We expect that our research will contribute to provide base data for advanced researches in future.

This study has developed an experiential exhibition system of scientific cultural heritage through interactive projection mapping. A bronze mirror with fine linear design was selected as an exhibition subject considering the intuitiveness and responsiveness of research and development results. First, three-dimensional (3D) scanning was performed to construct a digital database of the original forms, and computer graphics-based 3D modeling was also performed to build exhibition materials and 3D printed objects. Furthermore, objective scenarios were created based on a traditional science experience, understanding the present bronze mirror, and processes of restoring the corroded original bronze mirror through modern conservation science. The technique selected to implement the scientific content of bronze mirror as media art in this study is interactive projection mapping. Moreover, a large 3D printing of bronze mirror was installed at the center of the exhibition space to allow users and all viewers to concurrently engage in scientific cultural heritage content. Simultaneous projection mapping on the front and rear of the printed bronze mirror model enhanced 3D effects and the immersion of the content. To construct an interactive space connecting the virtual and reality, ore, mold, bronze mirror replicas, 3D printing outputs, and cultural products used in the process of producing bronze mirrors were exhibited to make the exhibit more intuitive for visitors. This interactive projection mapping-based scientific and cultural exhibition of the bronze mirror is an experiential exhibition system which combines traditional science, modern conservation science, and future exhibition technology.

In this study, the internal structure of a Heumgyeonggak-nu (欽敬閣漏) was designed, and the power transmission mechanism was analyzed. Heumgyeonggak-nu is an automated water clock from the Joseon Dynasty that was installed within Heumgyeonggak (欽敬閣), and it was manufactured in the 20th year of the reign of King Sejong (1438). As descriptions of Heumgyeonggak-nu in ancient literature have mostly focused on its external shape, the study of its internal mechanism has been difficult. A detailed analysis of the literature record on Heumgyeonggak-nu (e.g., The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty) indicates that Heumgyeonggaknu had a three-stage water clock, included a waterfall or tilting vessel (欹器) using the overflowed water, and displayed the time using a ball. In this study, the Cheonhyeong apparatus, water wheel, scoop, and various mechanism wheels were designed so that 16 fixed-type scoops could operate at a constant speed for the water wheel with a diameter of 100 cm. As the scoop can contain 1.25 l of water and the water wheel rotates 61 times a day, a total of 1,220 l of water is required. Also, the power gear wheel was designed as a 366-tooth gear, which supported the operation of the time signal gear wheel. To implement the movement of stars on the celestial sphere, the rotation ratio of the celestial gear wheel to the diurnal motion gear ring was set to 366:365. In addition, to operate the sun movement apparatus on the ecliptic, a gear device was installed on the South Pole axis. It is expected that the results of this study can be used for the manufacture and restoration of the operation model of Heumgyeonggak-nu.

경주 월지에서 출토된 금동삼존판불을 복원하고자 고문헌에 공통적으로 기록되어 있는 매실산을 도금 실험에 적용하였으며 도금 결과를 색도, SEM-EDS, XPS 등의 분석을 통해 알아보았다. 색도 분석결과 전체적으로 황색도가 높았으며 10분 이상 매실산 처리를 한 시편이 명도가 높았다. SEM으로 표면을 관찰한 결과 아말감을 도포하고 바로 소성한 경우 도금이 거의 되지 않았으며 36시간 방치 후 소성한 경우 도금층이 불균일하게 관찰되었으므로 도금시간은 12시간~24시간 이내가 적절함을 확인할 수 있었다. EDS로 도금층의 성분을 분석한 결과 산처리 시간이 20분인 시료의 경우 5 wt.% 내외로 수은의 비율이 다른 시료에 비해 낮았다. 또한 XPS로 표면상태를 분석한 결과 산처리시간은 20분이 고 24시간동안 아말감을 도포한 시료가 Au의 XPS peak 분해능이 높으며, Hg가 다른 시편들에 비해 거의 남아 있지 않음을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 매실산을 이용한 실험 및 분석결과 산처리 시간이 20분이고 아말감 도포시간이 24시간일 때 도금이 잘 되는 것으로 확인하였고, 이 결과를 토대로 금동삼존판불을 복원하였다.

The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of dietary fermented by-product of mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus, (FBPM) as an additive in juvenile Amur catfish, Silurus asotus. Five diets were formulated to contain 0%, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4% and 0.8% (FBPM0, FBPM0.1, FBPM0.2, FBPM0.4 and FBPM0.8 respectively) of FBPM. Fifteen fish averaging 5.7 ± 0.1 g (Mean ± SD) were fed one of the five diets in triplicate groups at 3–4% of wet body weight/day for 8 weeks. Average weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed FBPM0.1 and FBPM0.2 diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed FBPM0. Hematocrit contents of fish fed FBPM0.2 were significantly higher than that of fish fed FBPM0. Lysozyme activity of fish fed FBPM0.1 was significantly higher than those of fish fed FBPM0, FBPM0.2, FBPM0.4 and FBPM0.8, while chemiluminescent (CL) responses of fish fed FBPM0.2 was significantly higher than those of fish fed FBPM0, FBPM0.1, FBPM0.4 and FBPM0.8. Broken line regression analysis of WG showed that optimum dietary FBPM levels based on WG could be 0.11%. Therefore, these results suggested that the optimum dietary inclusion level of mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus by-product fermented using lactobacillus and yeast could be greater than 0.11% but less than 0.2% based on WG and immunological responses in Amur catfish, Silurus asotus without any adverse effects on serological characteristics and body composition.

The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of dietary fermented by-product of mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus, (FBPM) as a fish meal (FM) replacer in juvenile Amur catfish, Silurus asotus. A total number of 225 fish averaging 5.7±0.1 g (mean±standard deviation) were fed one of the five experimental diets formulated to replace FM with FBPM at 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and 30% (FBPM0, FBPM5, FBPM10, FBPM20, and FBPM30, respectively). Two feeding trials were conducted to investigate the optimum feeding rates in juvenile olive founder Paralichthys olivaceus fed practical expanded pellet(EP) containing 58.1% crude protein, 10.7% crude lipid, and 10.8% ash at low and high water temperatures. In the first experiment, triplicate groups of 15 fish with average weight of 7.7 g were fed at one of seven feeding rates(0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.25, or 2.5% of body weight/day or to satiation) for 4 weeks at low water temperature. In the second experiment, quadruplicate groups of 20 fish with average weight of 5.5 g were fed at one of eight feeding rates(0, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.25, 4.5, or 4.75% of body weight/day or to satiation) for 4 weeks at high water temperature. Based on growth performance, we estimated that the optimum feeding rates for juvenile olive flounder were 1.97-2.51% and 4.82-6.36% of body weight/day at low and high water temperatures, respectively.
