The goal of this study was to identify perceptions of the importance and needs of the essential job competencies required by Korean science and engineering graduates in the context of actual workplaces. We analyzed data from the 11th Youth Panel using the paired t-test, the Borich needs assessment, and the locus for focus model. An important finding was that the science and engineering graduates recognized the competencies pertaining to working with others and professional competencies as important among 15 essential competencies. We also found that they prioritized competencies differently depending on specific departments: the science graduates prioritized professional competencies, but the engineering graduates placed relatively greater importance on the competencies relating to interacting with others. Through this study, we identified the educational needs for essential job competencies from the science and engineering graduates and suggested implications for corresponding educational approaches.

This study examines the common pedagogical approaches of L2 Spanish textbooks that are currently used at the college-level in the United States, and investigates whether they embrace the notion of input as a key concept in aiding L2 learners in learning new vocabulary words through activities that guide them from input/comprehension to output/production in a meaningful way. The analysis revealed that the textbooks surveyed in this study overall exhibited the common organization and presentation of the new vocabulary words. Despite these apparent similarities of organization in presenting new vocabulary, the surveyed textbooks differed in the manner in which the input-based instruction and the output-based instruction were employed. More specifically, the activities found in the surveyed textbooks exhibited varying degrees of manipulation involved in both input and output-based tasks, and they also differed in the number of input-based and output-based activities as well as in the logical progression between the two types of activities. The findings of this study suggest that the surveyed textbooks showed a predominant tendency towards the output-based instruction of vocabulary, putting an emphasis on the production of new L2 vocabulary. This study provides further evidence that the input-based instruction, despite its effectiveness of teaching and learning L2 as demonstrated in many previous studies, is not systematically incorporated into most L2 textbooks, thus implying a gap between theory and practice.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are a viable energy-harvesting technology that can harness kinetic energy from various environmental sources. TENGs primarily utilize linear and rotational motion as their kinetic energy sources. In the contact/separation mode, the primary mode of operation for linear motion, one cycle of AC output is generated with a single push. If the output can be sustained for an extended period from a single push, the potential applications for TENGs would significantly expand. In this study, we propose an innovative Linear-to-Rotary Conversion Triboelectric Nanogenerator (LRC-TENG), which incorporates a gear structure to convert linear motion into rotational motion and employs charge pumping to achieve efficient, prolonged output. The proposed TENG can sustain AC output for 3 s with a single push. This LRC-TENG is particularly well suited for applications such as stairways requiring safety lighting at night. Utilizing the LRC-TENG, when a person steps on a stair, it can illuminate the stairway for 3 s through more than 236 LEDs, ensuring safety during nighttime walking. The purpose of this study is to examine ethnic minority groups' understanding of Korean culture through cultural intelligence (CQ), and its effects on perceived value and satisfaction of their Korean restaurant experiences. Data were collected from 232 people, ethnic minority groups who live in Korea with their original nationality. This study discovered that ethnic minority groups with higher cultural intelligence had higher service excellence, economic, and emotional value. The escapist, service excellence, economic, and emotional variables in perceived value had significant results, as the values were positive, customer satisfaction were positive. Among moderating effects of gender, nationality, and residential period, only gender and residential period were partially supported. The residential period of ethnic minority groups illustrated that respondents who had longer experience in Korea, had higher level of CQ. This community-based, health promotion intervention for seniors provided a comprehensive review of the effect of body-mind-spirit (BMS) interventions on health behaviors. The 12-week curriculum offered sessions on exercise, nutrition, sexuality, leisure, stress management, cognitive behavioral therapy, forgiveness, and happiness. Gerontological experts carefully reviewed the adequacy of the program's objectives and instructional methods to meet the needs of older adults in South Korea. Seventy community-dwelling older adults were recruited at two community welfare centers and assigned to experimental (n = 32) and control (n = 38) groups. Extensive evaluations found that participation in the BMS program contributed to better outcomes in both physical and spiritual dimensions of health. (Contains 2 tables and 1 figure.)
