14. Effect of the Thickness on the Bending Properties of UHPC Sheet.

Abstract

Thin wall and plate structure is an important application of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC). The reduction in thickness of the structure will affect the orientation of steel fiber and its mechanical properties, such as bending properties. The bending failure of UHPC sheet with thickness from 5 mm to 50 mm was studied, and the change in the orientation of steel fiber caused by the thickness was also analyzed by three dimensional video microscope and image method. It is found that failure load borne increases rapidly when the thickness of sheet is larger than 20mm. Bending strength, however, increases with the decrease in the thickness of the sheet, and the orientation (along the length of sample) of fiber is gradually enhanced, especially for 5-10 mm sheet. The variation of bending strength mainly depends on the orientation of steel fiber and thickness factor, and the latter has greater effect on bending strength of ultra thin plate. Abstract

In this paper, the loading mechanism of steel-fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) shear wall (SW) under low-cycle repeated loading is analyzed, and the softened strut-and-tie model (SSTM) of SFRC SW composed of horizontal and vertical resistant members and diagonal strut is proposed, in which the contributions of distributed web reinforcement, concrete, and steel fiber (SF) to the shear bearing capacity (SBC) of SFRC SW is identified. Furthermore, a new algorithm to obtain the SBC of SFRC SW is established, and then it is validated by using the test results of steel-fiber-reinforced high-strength concrete (SFHSC) SW and SFRC SW under low-cycle repeated loading. The results show that the calculated values are in good agreement with the experimental values for the 11 SFRC SWs, and the average strength ratio between calculated and experimental values (Vjh,t/Vjh,c) is 0.958. Therefore, the proposed calculation method is scientific and accurate for analyzing and predicting the SBC of SFRC SW. Abstract

The steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) shear wall with concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns is an innovative composite structure. In order to calculate the shear strength of SFRC shear wall with CFST columns, the softened strut and tie model (SSTM) of SFRC shear wall with CFST columns was proposed based on the analysis of shear mechanism of SFRC shear wall with CFST columns. The SSTM was composed of diagonal, horizontal, and vertical mechanisms, in which the contributions of concrete, reinforcement, and steel fiber to the shear strength of SFRC web of shear wall were identified. The shear capacities of 24 shear walls were calculated and compared with the available test results, and reasonable agreement was obtained. The results also showed that the steel fibers distributed randomly in concrete could be treated as longitudinal and transverse reinforcement in the shear strength analysis of SFRC web, and the SSTM was reasonable and useful to analyze and predict the shear strength of SFRC shear wall with CFST columns.

Abstract

External prestressing is an efficient technology to strengthen existing structures, and using fiber-reinforced polymers instead of steel in external tendons is advantageous to avoid corrosion-related problems, though anchoring external fiber-reinforced polymer tendons is still a major issue. An innovative anchoring technology is proposed in this paper for the external fiber-reinforced polymer tendons aimed to strengthen one-way reinforced concrete slabs. Six slab specimens were designed and manufactured to check the feasibility and reliability of the proposed technology. In one slab no external prestressing was applied (reference slab), while the remaining five slabs were strengthened by means of external post-tensioned glass fiber-reinforced polymer tendons, using the proposed anchoring system. The strengthened slabs differ for the prestressing level and external-tendon ratio. All slabs were tested up to failure and their flexural behaviors and failure modes were thoroughly investigated. The tests show that the proposed anchoring technology is reliable and efficient. A method for the calculation of the stress in the tendons at ultimate is also proposed. Finally, the numerical results are shown to agree fairly well with the test results.
