ObjectiveTo determine the association between PTSD symptoms due to prior trauma and prior trauma type with PTSD symptoms after suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS).MethodA consecutive sample of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) for suspected ACS were surveyed. Logistic regression was used to estimate the odds of elevated ACS-related PTSD symptoms [PCL-S ≥ 33] at 1-month associated with PTSD symptoms due to prior trauma and prior trauma type at the time of suspected ACS, adjusting for demographics, comorbidities, depression, and etiology of ACS symptoms.ResultsOf 984 patients, 81.6% reported ≥1 prior trauma type and 22.5% reported PTSD symptoms due to prior trauma at the time of suspected ACS. One month later, 18.0% had ACS-related PTSD symptoms. Higher levels of mental skill use and knowledge have been consistently associated with enhanced performances in athletic settings (e.g., Greenleaf, Gould & Dieffenbach, 2001; Hatzigeorgiadis, Zourbanos, Galanis, & Theodorakis, 2011; Weinberg, 2008). More specifically, exceptional athletic performances have been linked to the practice and application of mental skills such as goal-setting, imagery, self-talk, emotion control, activation, relaxation, automaticity, and positive thinking (Thomas, Murphy, & Hardy, 1999). Mental skills have also been shown to enhance psychological resilience, stress hardiness, and performance among members of the U.S. military (Adler et al., 2015).

Psychological ownership (PO) is a state in which an individual feels possession over an object, organization, or entity (eg, PO over the organization where one works, PO over the profession one serves). Understanding PO could provide insight into the "vitality of the profession" as defined in the Prioritized Research Agenda for the Athletic Training Profession. To explore athletic trainers' (ATs') PO over their employing organizations and the athletic training profession. Cross-sectional study. Web-based survey. Clinically practicing ATs who were active members of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Demographic variables, Psychological Ownership Questionnaire (POQ) scores, and Psychological Ownership Questionnaire for athletic training (POQ-AT) scores were the primary outcomes measured. Descriptive statistics were calculated for the demographic variables, POQ and POQ-AT overall scores, form scores, and dimension scores. Nonparametric tests were used to investigate differences between the POQ and POQ-AT by demographic characteristics. The ATs indicated greater PO over the athletic training profession (Z = −3.45, P =.001) than over their employing organizations. They displayed greater belongingness (Z = −9.51, P <.001) and self-identity (Z = −8.71, P <.001) and less territoriality (Z = −5.52, P <.001) and accountability (Z = −5.33, P <.001) over their profession than their organization. Those ATs who supervised others had higher overall POQ (Mann-Whitney U test = 34 372, P <.001) and overall POQ-AT (U = 36 624, P =.014) scores than ATs who did not supervise others. A difference was evident in overall POQ (Kruskal-Wallis statistical analysis H4 = 20.47, P <.001) and overall POQ-AT (H4 = 21.34, P <.001) scores by years of experience. Respondents indicated greater PO over their profession than their employing organizations. They demonstrated greater self-identity and belongingness and less territoriality and accountability over the athletic training profession than over their employing organization, suggesting that they were connecting aspirations and accomplishments with the profession but connecting duty and responsibility with their organizations. Using a mixed methodology study, this article explores the influence of academic language comprehension on reading, writing, and academic performance at a regional comprehensive institution. We completed a comprehensive survey of 150 students in ENGL 101 and 201, asking questions about academic reading strategies and important disciplinary concepts in the majors of individual survey participants. Additionally, we conducted a phenomenological study of instructor perceptions of student reading ability in order to gain a more complete picture of the role of reading in student performance. Finally, we triangulated this information by coding and analyzing multiple writing samples from assignments specifically designed to capture student facility with academic language. In order to explore possible curricular changes, we compared our findings with theories of academic literacies and the requirements of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Our research suggests that the ongoing implementation of the CCSS provides an opportunity to reconsider and revise how universities approach academic literacies and reading across the curriculum at the university level.

A request for a preparticipation medical evaluation for wilderness watersports may be made by guiding agencies, instructional camps, or by patients presenting for an annual visit. Although guidelines have been published regarding preparticipation physical evaluation for traditional competitive high school and collegiate sports, little has been written about medical evaluations for those wishing to engage in wilderness and adventure watersports. in this article, we offer guidance based on literature review and expert opinion. Watersports are among the most common recreational activities in the United states and are generally safe. Drowning, however, is a significant risk, particularly in small, self-propelled craft, and among children. Medical counseling before participation in watersports should include screening for medical conditions which may impair swimming ability, including a history of seizures, heart disease, and lung disease. Physicians should also promote preventive health measures such as use of lifejackets and sun protection, as well as alcohol avoidance. Swim testing tailored to specific activities should be strongly considered for children and those with questionable swimming ability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exertional heat illness can be a serious consequence of sports or exercise in hot environments. Participants can possess intrinsic or face extrinsic risk factors that may increase their risk for heat-related illness. Knowledge of the physiology and pathology of heat illness, identification of risk factors, and strategies to combat heat accumulation will aid both the practitioner and the participant in preparing for activities that occur in hot environments. Wilderness sports and adventures continue to increase in popularity. Counseling is an essential element of the preparticipation evaluation (PPE) for athletes in traditional sports. This approach can be applied to and augmented for the wilderness athlete and adventurer. The authors reviewed the literature on counseling during PPEs and gathered expert opinion from medical professionals who perform such PPEs for wilderness sports enthusiasts. The objective was to present findings of this review and make recommendations on the counseling component of a wilderness sports/adventure PPE. The counseling component of a PPE for wilderness sports/adventures should take place after a basic medical evaluation, and include a discussion on sport or activity-specific injury prevention, personal health, travel recommendations, and emergency event planning. Counseling should be individualized and thorough, and involve shared decision making. This should take place early enough to allow ample time for the athlete or adventurer to further prepare as needed based on the recommendations. Thefirst experimental structure of a monomeric organozinc halide,IZnCH3, has been measured using millimeter-wave directabsorption spectroscopy in the frequency range 256–293 GHz.IZnCH3is a model compound for organozinc halides, widelyused in cross-coupling reactions. The species was produced in thegas phase by reaction of zinc vapor with iodomethane in the presenceof a dc discharge. IZnCH3was identified on the basis ofits pure rotational spectrum as well as those of the isotopicallysubstituted species I66ZnCH3, I64Zn13CH3, and I64ZnCD3. IZnCH3is unmistakably a symmetric top molecule (X̃1A1) belonging to the C3vpoint group, in agreementwith DFT calculations, with the following experimentally determinedstructural parameters: rIZn= 2.4076(2)Å, rZnC= 1.9201(2) Å, rCH= 1.105(9) Å, and ∠H–C–H= 108.7(5)°. The basic methyl group geometry is not significantlyaltered in this molecule.
