Amaranthaceae s.l. is a widely distributed family consisting of over 170 genera and 2000 species. Previous molecular phylogenetic studies have shown that Amaranthaceae s.s. and traditional Chenopodiaceae form a monophyletic group (Amaranthaceae s.l.), however, the relationships within this evolutionary branch have yet to be fully resolved. In this study, we assembled the complete plastomes and full‐length ITS of 21 Amaranthaceae s.l. individuals and compared them with 38 species of Amaranthaceae s.l. Through plastome structure and sequence alignment analysis, we identified a reverse complementary region approximately 5200 bp long in the genera Atriplex and Chenopodium. Adaptive evolution analysis revealed significant positive selection in eight genes, which likely played a driving role in the evolution of Amaranthaceae s.l., as demonstrated by partitioned evolutionary analysis. Furthermore, we found that about two‐thirds of the examined species lack the ycf15 gene, potentially associated with natural selection pressures from their adapted habitats. The phylogenetic tree indicated that some genera (Chenopodium, Halogeton, and Subtr. Salsolinae) are paraphyletic lineages. Our results strongly support the clustering of Amaranthaceae s.l. with monophyletic traditional Chenopodiaceae (Clades I and II) and Amaranthaceae s.s. After a comprehensive analysis, we determined that cytonuclear conflict, gene selection by adapted habitats, and incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) events were the primary reasons for the inconsistent phylogeny of Amaranthaceae s.l. During the last glacial period, certain species within Amaranthaceae s.l. underwent adaptations to different environments and began to differentiate rapidly. The utilization of high‐voltage intercalation cathodes in calcium‐ion batteries (CIBs) is impeded by the substantial size and divalent character of Ca2+ ions, which result in pronounced volume alterations and sluggish ion mobility, consequently causing inferior reversibility and low energy/power densities. To tackle these issues, polyanionic K‐vacant KxVPO4F (x∼0, designated as K0VPF) is proposed as high‐voltage and ultra‐stable cathode material in CIBs. The K0VPF demonstrates a decent calcium storage capacity of 75 mAh g−1 at 10 mA g−1 and remarkable capacity retention of 84.2% over 1000 cycles. The average working voltage of the K0VPF is 3.85 V versus Ca2+/Ca, representing the highest value reported for CIB cathodes to date. The combined experimental and theoretical investigations revealed that the low volume changes and hopping diffusion barriers contribute to the extraordinary stability and high‐power capabilities, respectively, of K0VPF. The distribution of Ca ions into polyanionic frameworks with pronounced spatial separation effectively attenuates the Ca2+–Ca2+ repulsive force and thus augmenting the Ca migration kinetics. The high voltage of K0VPF is attributed to the inductive effect from the largely electronegative fluorine. In conjunction with a calcium metal anode and a compatible electrolyte, Ca metal full cells featured a record‐high energy density of ≈300 Wh kg−1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The P(AM‐co‐AMPS)/SA DN hydrogel was synthesized through aqueous polymerization in this study. It formed a crosslinking network with hydrophobic associations between acrylamide (AM) and lauryl methacrylate (LMA), as well as an ionic bond network involving sodium alginate and Ca2+. To enhance its high‐temperature resistance, 2‐acrylamide‐2‐methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS) was incorporated into the hydrogel formulation. The structure of the hydrogel was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Results demonstrated that the hydrogel exhibited excellent temperature resistance and possessed a porous structure. Mechanical testing revealed a high tensile strength of 110 kPa, elongation at break of 995.31%, along with good fatigue resistance and self‐recovery performance during multiple cyclic stretching. Healing experiments indicated that the healing strength of the hydrogel was influenced by temperature variations. Furthermore, pressure plugging tests were conducted on steel models with crack widths of 0.5 and 1 mm, respectively; it was found that the 0.8%P(AM‐co‐AMPS)/SA DN hydrogel could withstand pressures up to 4.5 MPa at a temperature of 70°C. This novel hydrogel material exhibits remarkable mechanical properties along with certain self‐healing capabilities, making it suitable for leak control applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multivalent metal batteries (MMBs) have been considered potentially high‐energy and low‐cost alternatives to commercial Li‐ion batteries, thus attracting tremendous research interest for energy‐storage applications. However, the plating and stripping of multivalent metals (i.e., Zn, Ca, Mg) suffer from low Coulombic efficiencies and short cycle life, which are largely rooted in the unstable solid electrolyte interphase. Apart from exploring new electrolytes or artificial layers for robust interphases, fundamental works on deciphering interfacial chemistry have also been conducted. This work is dedicated to summarizing the state‐of‐the‐art advances in understanding the interphases for multivalent metal anodes revealed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. Operando and cryogenic TEM with high spatial and temporal resolutions realize the dynamic visualization of the vulnerable chemical structures in interphase layers. Following a scrutinization of the interphases on different metal anodes, we elucidate their features for appealing multivalent metal anodes. Finally, perspectives are proposed for the remaining issues on analyzing and regulating interphases for practical MMBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
