ObjectiveTo explore the ideal pretarsal shows and morphological characteristics of double eyelids in Chinese populations through a morphometric analysis.MethodsThis study employed a convenience sampling method to survey Chinese adults who did not reside abroad for an extended period (with cumulative overseas stay of over one year). From November 2023 to May 2024, electronic questionnaires were distributed to collect attractiveness ratings of nine different images (including one image featuring single eyelid and eight images with varying pretarsal shows and morphologies of double eyelids). Stratified comparisons were conducted based on gender, age, occupation, etc., to determine the ideal pretarsal show and morphology of double eyelids. Quantitative analysis was performed on the aesthetic features of the nine images depicting double eyelids to validate and elucidate the survey findings.ResultsA total of 493 questionnaires were filled out, and 397 valid questionnaires were included for data analysis after quality control. As for the whole cohort, the images feathering 2 mm double eyelid were deemed to be the most attractive, with the in-fold type scoring (3.72±0.97) points and the out-fold type scoring (3.65±1.04) points. The next was 1 mm, followed by 3 mm, single eyelid, and finally, 4 mm. As for morphology, in-fold type achieved higher scores than out-fold type in images with the same pretarsal show. However, statistically significant differences were only found in ratings for the images with 3 mm and 4 mm double eyelids (all P < 0.05). Stratified analysis based on gender, age, occupation, and other factors yielded results that were largely consistent with those of the overall population.The quantitative analysis of aesthetic characteristics of double eyelids revealed that when the pretarsal show was 2 mm, both the Chen's ratio of the in-fold and out-fold type were 0.630, which closely approximates the golden ratio.ConclusionsThis study validates that the pretarsal show of 2 mm and the presence of either an in-fold or out-fold morphology are considered optimal for double eyelids among Chinese individuals. These findings hold significant implications for the planning of double eyelid surgeries, assessment of surgical outcomes, and evaluation of other periocular procedures associated with double eyelid surgeries.

ObjectiveTo construct a quality control indicators system for Chinese plastic and aesthetic major and lay foundation for medical quality control.MethodsNational Quality Control Center of Plastic and Aesthetic Major established a working group in February 2023. Guided by the "structure-process-outcome" theory, the working group formulated medical quality control indicators for Plastic and Aesthetic major by learning from relevant indicators of other majors, reviewing literature, discussing in meetings, and combining opinions from quality control experts. The quality control indicators system was finally established by Delphi expert consultation.ResultsDelphi survey was 100% of 2 rounds. The authorities of 2 rounds of expert consultation were 0.854 and 0.857. The harmonious coefficients were 0.387 of primary indicators and 0.425 of secondary indicators(P < 0.01). The finalized indicators system includes 3 primary indicators and 9 secondary indicators.ConclusionsThe quality control indicators system established in this study for Plastic and Aesthetic major in China has a certain degree of scientificity and rationality, which offers reference for medical quality control of Plastic and Aesthetic major in China. However, this system should be improved and ameliorated in practical application.

Aesthetic medicine includes aesthetic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, aesthetic dentistry and aesthetic Chinese medicine. The goal of aesthetic medicine is to maintain, modify and remodel the beauty of appearance through medical methods. The shaping of beauty mainly relies on aesthetic surgery, which is the principal part of aesthetic medicine. With the increasing demand for beauty, the medical aesthetic industry has flourished in recent decades, and the complications of aesthetic surgery also have been rising. This article summarizes the complications related to aesthetic medicine in order to provide a warning for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Background Injectable poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA), under the brand name of AestheFill (REGEN Biotech, Inc. Seoul, South Korea), is a biocompatible, biodegradable, and biostimulatory product utilized to correct soft tissue volume loss. Its efficacy and safety have not been fully studied in a large cohort. Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel dermal filler injectable, poly-D,L-lactic acid. Methods This was an evaluator-blinded, multicenter, randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy and safety of PDLLA vs hyaluronic acid in the correction of the nasolabial fold. Two hundred and sixty patients with moderate to severe nasolabial folds were enrolled and randomized to the treatment group (PDLLA) or control group (hyaluronic acid). Each patient received a PDLLA or hyaluronic acid injection for nasolabial fold augmentation and was followed for 52 weeks. The Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale (WSRS) and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) were applied to evaluate topical nasolabial fold augmentation and overall improvement, respectively. Results At 24 weeks, 67.6% of patients in the PDLLA group had an at least 1-grade improvement on the WSRS, compared to 60.9% of patients in the control group with an at least 1-grade improvement on the WSRS (P <.05). At each visit, the PDLLA group showed more improvement on the baseline WSRS than the control group. PDLLA was safe and well tolerated, with no severe adverse events. Background: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and highly aggressive form of skin cancer. However, there is limited research on the clinicopathological features of early‐onset MCC (EOMCC) and the differences between EOMCC and late‐onset MCC (LOMCC). Our objective was to evaluate the clinicopathological features and cancer‐specific survival (CSS) of EOMCC. Methods: Our cohort study analyzed data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2020. Data from 1941 patients who were diagnosed with primary cutaneous MCC were included. We then divided the patients with MCC into two groups: those with EOMCC (526 patients) and those with LOMCC (1415 patients). CSS is used as the primary outcome. Results: The EOMCC group exhibited trends toward advanced tumor progression, an expanded surgical scope, increased lymph node retrieval, intensified radiotherapy, greater utilization of systemic therapy, and a better prognosis. Multivariate analysis revealed that LOMCC (HR 3.305 [2.002–5.456], P < 0.001), advanced T stage (HR 1.430 [1.139–1.797], P = 0.002), advanced N stage (HR 1.522 [1.221–1.897], P < 0.001), M1 stage (HR 2.587 [1.480–4.521], P < 0.001), and radiation (HR 0.586 [0.410–0.837], P = 0.003) were significantly associated with CSS. Among these factors, EOMCC/LOMCC was most strongly associated with CSS, indicating that LOMCC is an independent risk factor for CSS. Interestingly, we found that regional EOMCC and localized or in situ LOMCC had almost completely overlapping survival curves (Plog‐rank = 0.620). Additionally, we observed that the TNM staging + age model was a more accurate predictor of CSS among MCC patients than using TNM staging alone. Conclusions: We found that EOMCC has distinct clinicopathological features compared to LOMCC. EOMCC is associated with better CSS. The combination of TNM staging and age was more accurate for predicting patient outcomes than TNM staging alone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
