Photoelectron spectroscopy in intense laser fields has proven to be a powerful tool for providing detailed insights into molecular structure. The ionizing molecular orbital, however, has not been reconstructed from the photoelectron spectra, mainly due to the fact that its phase information can be hardly extracted. In this work, we propose a method to retrieve the phase information of the ionizing molecular orbital with laser-induced electron tunneling spectroscopy. By analyzing the interference pattern in the photoelectron spectrum, the weighted coefficients and the relative phases of the constituent atomic orbitals for a molecular orbital can be extracted. With this information we reconstruct the highest occupied molecular orbital of N$_2$. We report the fluorescence emission which is driven by femtosecond laser pulses with a repetition rate of 100 MHz and a center wavelength of 1040 nm in a nitrogen gas jet. The experiment is performed in a femtosecond enhancement cavity coupled with high repetition rate laser for the first time to the best of our knowledge. In contrast to previous observation at low repetition rate with a nitrogen gas jet, where the 391 nm radiation was observed but the 337 nm emission was missing, the 337 nm emission is 3 times stronger than the 391 nm emission in our experiment. By examining the dependence of the radiation intensity on the flow rate of the nitrogen gas and the polarization of the pump pulse, the formation mechanism of the N2(C3{\Pi}u) triplet excited state, i.e., the upper state of the 337 nm emission, is investigated. We attribute the main excitation process to the inelastic collision excitation process, and exclude the possibility of the dissociative recombination as the dominate pathway. We report on an experimental and theoretical study of the ionization-fragmentation dynamics of argon dimers in intense few-cycle laser pulses with a tagged carrier-envelope phase. We find that a field-driven electron transfer process from one argon atom across the system boundary to the other argon atom triggers sub-cycle electron-electron interaction dynamics in the neighboring atom. This attosecond electron-transfer process between distant entities and its implications manifest themselves as a distinct phase-shift between the measured asymmetry of electron emission curves of the $\text{Ar}^{+}+\text{Ar}^{2+}$ and $\text{Ar}^{2+}+\text{Ar}^{2+}$ fragmentation channels. Our work discloses a strong-field route to controlling the dynamics in molecular compounds through the excitation of electronic dynamics on a distant molecule by driving inter-molecular electron-transfer processes.

Optical double-quantum two-dimensional coherent spectroscopy (2DCS) was implemented to probe interatomic dipole-dipole interactions in both potassium and rubidium atomic vapors. The dipole-dipole interaction was detected at densities of $4.81 \times 10^8$ cm$^{-3}$ and $8.40 \times 10^9$ cm$^{-3}$ for potassium and rubidium, respectively, corresponding to a mean interatomic separation of 15.8 $\mu$m or $3.0\times 10^5a_0$ for potassium and 6.1 $\mu$m or $1.2\times 10^5a_0$ for rubidium, where $a_0$ is the Bohr radius. We report the lowest atomic density at which dipole-dipole interactions are detected. The experimental results confirm the long range nature of the dipole-dipole interaction which is critical for understanding many-body physics in atoms/molecules. The long range interaction also has implications in atom-based applications involving many-body interactions. Additionally, we demonstrated that double-quantum 2DCS is sufficiently sensitive to probe dipole-dipole interaction at densities that can be achieved with cold atom in a magneto-optical trap, paving the way for double-quantum 2DCS studies of cold atoms and molecules. Dicke state, a coherent state of multiple particles, is fundamentally responsible for various intriguing collective behaviors of many-body systems. Experimental access to Dicke states with a scalable and deterministic number of particles is essential to study how many-body properties depend on the particle number. We report the observation of Dicke states consisting of two, three, four, five, six, and seven atoms in an atomic vapor. Quantum coherences between the ground state and multi-atom states are created and detected by using optical two-dimensional coherent spectroscopy. The signal originated from multi-atom states is manifested as correlation between the multi-quantum coherence and the emission signal, providing direct and unambiguous detection of Dicke states. The manipulation of deterministic atomic Dicke states has possible implications in quantum information processing and fundamental many-body physics., Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures

We use orthogonally polarized two-colour (OTC) laser pulses to separate quantum paths in multiphoton ionization of Ar atoms. Our OTC pulses consist of 400~nm and 800~nm light at a relative intensity ratio of 10:1. We find a hitherto unobserved interference in the photoelectron momentum distribution, which exhibits a strong dependence on the relative phase of the OTC pulse. Analysis of model calculations reveal that the interference is caused by quantum pathways from non-adjacent quarter cycles.

We study photoelectron angular distributions (PADs) near the ionization threshold with a newly developed Coulomb quantum-orbit strong-field approximation (CQSFA) theory. The CQSFA simulations present an excellent agreement with the result from time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation method. We show that the low-energy fan-shaped structure in the PADs corresponds to a subcycle time-resolved holographic structure and stems from the significant influence of the Coulomb potential on the phase of the forward-scattering electron trajectories, which affects different momenta and scattering angles unequally. For the first time, our work provides a direct explanation of how the fan-shaped structure is formed, based on the quantum interference of direct and forward-scattered orbits., Comment: An ancillary file added
