Addressing critical challenges in Lamb wave resonators, this paper presents the first validation of resonators incorporating sub-wavelength through-holes. Using the A3 mode resonator based on a LiNbO3 single-crystal thin film and operating in the K band as a prominent example, we demonstrate the advantages of the through-hole design. In the absence of additional processing steps, and while maintaining device performance--including operating frequency, electromechanical coupling coefficient, and quality factor--without introducing extra spurious modes, this approach effectively reduces the ineffective suspension area of the piezoelectric LN film, potentially enhancing mechanical and thermal stability. It also standardizes etching distances (and times) across various Lamb wave resonators on a single wafer, facilitating the development of Lamb wave filters. The versatility of the through-hole technique, with relaxed constraints on hole geometry and arrangement, further highlights its significance. This work proposes a double-layer thin-film lithium niobate (LiNbO3) longitudinally excited shear wave resonator with a theoretical electromechanical coupling coefficient exceeding 60%, RaR close to 28%, and no spurious modes. This ultra-large electromechanical coupling coefficient, which is close to the upper limit of LiNbO3, is much larger than all microwave acoustic resonators reported so far. Based on X-cut thin-film LiNbO3, when the film thickness is in the order of hundreds of nanometers, the frequency of the fundamental mode of the resonator can cover 1GHz to10GHz. The resonator design is convenient and flexible. The resonant frequency can be modulated monotonically by changing either the electrode or the thickness of the thin-film LiNbO3 without introducing additional spurious modes. This ideal resonator architecture is also applicable to LiTaO3. We analyzed the deconvolved surface brightness profiles of 247 massive and angularly large disk galaxies at $1\leq z\leq 3$ to study high-redshift disk breaks, using F356W-band images from the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science survey (CEERS). We found that 12.6% of these galaxies exhibit type I (exponential) profiles, 56.7% exhibit type II (down-bending) profiles, and 34.8% exhibit type III (up-bending) profiles. Moreover, we showed that galaxies that are more massive, centrally concentrated, or redder, tend to show fewer type II and more type III breaks. These fractions and the detected dependencies on galaxy properties are in good agreement with those observed in the Local Universe. In particular, the ratio of the type II disk break radius to the bar radius in barred galaxies typically peaks at a value of 2.25, perhaps due to bar-induced radial migration. However, the timescale for secular evolution may be too lengthy to explain the observed breaks at such high redshifts. Instead, violent disk instabilities may be responsible, where spiral arms and clumps torque fling out the material, leading to the formation of outer exponential disks. Understanding the methodological robustness in identifying and quantifying high-redshift bars is essential for studying their evolution with the {\it James} {\it Webb} Space Telescope (JWST). We used nearby spiral galaxies to generate simulated images at various resolutions and signal-to-noise ratios, and obtained the simulated galaxy images observed in the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science (CEERS) survey from Yu et al. Through a comparison of measurements before and after image degradation, we show that the bar measurements for massive galaxies remain robust against noise. While the measurement of the bar position angle remains unaffected by resolution, the measured bar ellipticity is significantly underestimated in low-resolution images. The size measurement is on average barely affected as long as the intrinsic bar size $a_{\rm bar,\,true}>2\times{\rm FWHM}$. To address these effects, correction functions are derived. We also find that the effectiveness of detecting bars remains at $\sim$\,100\% when the $a_{\rm bar,\,true}/{\rm FWHM}$ is above 2, below which the rate drops sharply, quantitatively validating the effectiveness of using $a_{\rm bar,\,true}>2\times {\rm FWHM}$ as a bar detection threshold. We analyze a set of simulated CEERS images, which take into account observational effects and plausible galaxy (and bar-size) evolution models, and show that a significant (and misleading) reduction in detected bar fraction with increasing redshift would apparently result even if the true bar fraction remained constant. Observations of high-redshift galaxies with unprecedented detail have now been rendered possible with JWST. However, accurately quantifying their morphology remains uncertain due to potential biases and uncertainties. To address this issue, we used a sample of 1816 nearby DESI galaxies, with a mass range of $10^{9.75-11.25}M_{\odot}$, to compute artificial images of galaxies of the same mass located at $0.75\leq z\leq 3$ and observed at rest-frame optical wavelength in CEERS. We analyzed the effects of cosmological redshift on the measurements of Petrosian radius ($R_p$), half-light radius ($R_{50}$), asymmetry ($A$), concentration ($C$), axis ratio ($q$), and S\'ersic index ($n$). Our results show that $R_p$ and $R_{50}$, calculated using non-parametric methods, are slightly overestimated due to PSF smoothing, while $R_{50}$, $q$, and $n$ obtained through model fitting does not exhibit significant biases. We improve the computation of $A$ by incorporating a more accurate noise effect removal procedure. Due to PSF asymmetry, there is a minor overestimation of $A$ for intrinsically symmetric galaxies. However, for intrinsically asymmetric galaxies, PSF smoothing dominates and results in an underestimation of $A$, an effect that becomes more significant with higher intrinsic $A$ or at lower resolutions. Moreover, PSF smoothing also leads to an underestimation of $C$, which is notably more pronounced in galaxies with higher intrinsic $C$ or at lower resolutions. We developed functions based on resolution level, defined as $R_p/$FWHM, for correcting these biases and the associated statistical uncertainties. Applying these corrections, we measured the bias-corrected morphology for the simulated CEERS images and we find that the derived quantities are in good agreement with their intrinsic values -- except for $A$, which is robust only for angularly large galaxies where $R_p/{\rm FWHM}\geq 5$., Comment: 21 pages, 17 figures; A&A in press

A panchromatic investigation of morphology for the early-type spiral galaxy M81 is presented in this paper. We perform bulge-disk decomposition in M81 images at a total of 20 wavebands from FUV to NIR obtained with GALEX, Swift, SDSS, WIYN, 2MASS, WISE, and Spitzer. Morphological parameters such as Sersic index, effective radius, position angle, and axis ratio for the bulge and the disk are thus derived at all of the wavebands, which enables quantifying the morphological K-correction for M81 and makes it possible to reproduce images for the bulge and the disk in the galaxy at any waveband. The morphology as a function of wavelength appears as a variable-slope trend of the Sersic index and the effective radius, in which the variations are steep at UV--optical and shallow at optical--NIR bands; the position angle and the axis ratio keep invariable at least at optical--NIR bands. It is worth noting that the Sersic index for the bulge reaches about 4--5 at optical and NIR bands, but drops to about 1 at UV bands. This difference brings forward a caveat that a classical bulge is likely misidentified for a pseudo-bulge or no bulge at high redshifts where galaxies are observed through rest-frame UV channels with optical telescopes. Shocks and torques produced by non-axisymmetric structures such as spiral arms and bars may transport gas to galaxy central regions. We test this hypothesis by studying the dependence of concentration of CO luminosity ($C_{CO}$), molecular gas ($C_{mol}$), and star formation rate ($C_{SFR}$) in central $\sim$ 2 kpc on the $strength$ of non-axisymmetric disk structure using a sample of 57 disk galaxies selected from the EDGE-CALIFA survey. $C_{mol}$ is calculated using a CO-to-H$_2$ conversion factor that decreases with higher metallicity and higher stellar surface density. We find that $C_{mol}$ is systematically 0.22 dex lower than $C_{CO}$. We confirm that high $C_{mol}$ and strong non-axisymmetric disk structure are more common in barred galaxies than in unbarred galaxies. However, we find that spiral arms also increase $C_{mol}$. We show that there is a good correlation between $C_{mol}$ and the $strength$ of non-axisymmetric structure (which can be due to a bar, spiral arms, or both). This suggests that the stronger the bars and spirals, the more efficient the galaxy is at transporting cold gas to its center. Despite the small subsample size, $C_{mol}$ of the four Seyferts are not significantly reduced compared to inactive galaxies of similar disk structure, implying that the AGN feedback in Seyferts may not notably affect the molecular gas distribution in the central $\sim$2kpc. We find that $C_{SFR}$ tightly correlates with $C_{mol}$ in both unbarred and barred galaxies. Likewise, elevated $C_{SFR}$ is found in galaxies with strong disk structure. Our results suggest that the disk structure, either spirals or bars, can transport gas to the central regions, with higher inflow rates corresponding to stronger structure, and consequently boost central star formation. Defects play a crucial role in the physical properties of crystals, whether for classical or quantum systems. For example, in photonic/phononic crystals, defects can serve as precise guidance and localization of classical electromagnetic or mechanical waves. Rainbow concentrating, a recently proposed exotic wave localization [Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 113902 (2021)] exploits defects to enable the collection and frequency routing of weak signals in real space. In this paper, using a solid-state phononic crystal (PnC) plate, we experimentally verify this phenomenon by deliberately infusing a homogeneous graded dislocation, i.e., a line defect, into the PnC. Two PnCs separated by the defect will breed deterministic interface states along with the defect, offering rainbow trapping and concentrating for elastic waves. Our PnC-based rainbow trappers and concentrators are scalable and configurable, promising for advancing applications like energy harvesting, information processing, and acoustofluidic manipulating., Comment: 10 Page, 7 figures

Spiral-driven instabilities may drive gas inflow to enhance central star formation in disk galaxies. We investigate this hypothesis using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) in a sample of 2779 nearby unbarred star-forming main-sequence spiral galaxies. The strength of spiral arms is quantified by their average Fourier amplitude relative to the axisymmetric disk. The star formation properties in the central 1--3\,kpc region were derived from the SDSS spectra. We show that galaxies with stronger spiral arms not only tend to have more intense central specific star formation rate (sSFR), larger Balmer absorption line index, and lower 4000-\AA\ break strength, but also have enhanced central sSFR relative to sSFR measured for the whole galaxy. This link is independent of redshift, stellar mass, surface density, and concentration. There is a lack of evidence for strong spiral arms being associated with a significant fraction of starburst or post-starburst galaxies, implying that the spiral-induced central star formation is likely continuous rather than bursty. We also show that stronger spiral arms tend to have an increasing fraction of pseudo bulges, a relatively unchanged fraction of star-forming classical bulges, and a decreasing fraction of quenched classical bulges. Moreover, the concentration of galaxies hosting pseudo bulges mildly increases with stronger spiral arms, implying that spirals help pseudo bulges grow. The connection between spirals and the bulge type is partly attributed to the suppression of spirals by classical bulges and partly to the enhanced central star formation driven by spirals. We explain our results in a picture where spiral arms transport cold gas inward to trigger continuous central star formation, which facilitates the build-up of pseudo bulges. LAMOST Data Release 5, covering $\sim$17,000 $deg^2$ from $-10^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$ in declination, contains 9 millions co-added low resolution spectra of celestial objects, each spectrum combined from repeat exposure of two to tens of times during Oct 2011 to Jun 2017. In this paper, We present the spectra of individual exposures for all the objects in LAMOST Data Release 5. For each spectrum, equivalent width of 60 lines from 11 different elements are calculated with a new method combining the actual line core and fitted line wings. For stars earlier than F type, the Balmer lines are fitted with both emission and absorption profiles once two components are detected. Radial velocity of each individual exposure is measured by minimizing ${\chi}^2$ between the spectrum and its best template. Database for equivalent widths of spectral lines and radial velocities of individual spectra are available online. Radial velocity uncertainties with different stellar type and signal-to-noise ratio are quantified by comparing different exposure of the same objects. We notice that the radial velocity uncertainty depends on the time lag between observations. For stars observed in the same day and with signal-to-noise ratio higher than 20, the radial velocity uncertainty is below 5km/s, and increase to 10km/s for stars observed in different nights., Comment: 21 pages, 15 figures

We investigate the impact of spiral structure on global star formation using a sample of 2226 nearby bright disk galaxies. Examining the relationship between spiral arms, star formation rate (SFR), and stellar mass, we find that arm strength correlates well with the variation of SFR as a function of stellar mass. Arms are stronger above the star-forming galaxy main sequence (MS) and weaker below it: arm strength increases with higher $\log\,({\rm SFR}/{\rm SFR}_{\rm MS})$, where ${\rm SFR}_{\rm MS}$ is the SFR along the MS. Likewise, stronger arms are associated with higher specific SFR. We confirm this trend using the optical colors of a larger sample of 4378 disk galaxies, whose position on the blue cloud also depends systematically on spiral arm strength. This link is independent of other galaxy structural parameters. For the subset of galaxies with cold gas measurements, arm strength positively correlates with HI and H$_2$ mass fraction, even after removing the mutual dependence on $\log\,({\rm SFR}/{\rm SFR}_{\rm MS})$, consistent with the notion that spiral arms are maintained by dynamical cooling provided by gas damping. For a given gas fraction, stronger arms lead to higher $\log\,({\rm SFR}/{\rm SFR}_{\rm MS})$, resulting in a trend of increasing arm strength with shorter gas depletion time. We suggest a physical picture in which the dissipation process provided by gas damping maintains spiral structure, which, in turn, boosts the star formation efficiency of the gas reservoir., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ
