Abstract: The corrosion of spherical fuel element by oxidizing gases will degrade their thermal and mechanical properties in pebble-bed reactors. Oxidizing impurities in primary helium coolant may have significant influence on the gasification of graphite during the long service time even though their concentrations remain relatively low. This paper deals with the corrosion of matrix graphite by steam and oxygen in Chinese high temperature gas-cooled reactor pebble-bed module (HTR-PM). The influence of steam contents was first analyzed, and then the effect of oxygen contents was also taken into account. The results show that the corrosion by steam was weak and it would not threaten the normal service of spherical fuel elements for expected steam contamination levels. On the contrary, the corrosion would be more severe while the oxygen content was as high as currently expected. Finally, the upper limits of steam and oxygen in primary helium coolant were recommended to be 1.0 and 0.05cm3 m−3. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The oxidation of graphite in normal operating conditions is a very important factor when evaluating the service time of the graphite structural material in a high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR). This paper deals with the modeling of graphite oxidation by steam in the helium channel of a fuel block. The FEM software COMSOL is used: the turbulent flow of the coolant is simulated by using the k–ɛ model and the chemical reaction is expressed by the Langmuir–Hinshelwood equation. Calculations were carried out for steam pressures around 1Pa and for different temperature distributions. The influence of burn-off and the diffusion in graphite porosities were both considered in the oxidation. Results show that oxidation mainly occurred on the graphite surface at the bottom of the core because of the higher temperature. The thickness of graphite with a burn-off higher than 8% was about 1mm at the core base. Less than 15% of steam was consumed in the coolant channel of the fuel assemblies. Calculations also showed that the mean gasification rate in one channel for the second service time was larger than the first service time. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The vector forces at the human-mattress interface are not only crucial for understanding the distribution of vertical and shear forces exerted on the human body during sleep but also serves as a significant input for biomechanical models of sleeping positions, whose accuracy determines the credibility of predicting musculoskeletal system loads. In this study, we introduce a novel method for calculating the interface vector forces. By recording indentations after supine and lateral positions using a vacuum mattress and 3D scanner, we utilize image registration techniques to align body pressure distribution with the mattress deformation scanning images, thereby calculating the vector force values for each unit area (36.25 mm × 36.25 mm). This method was validated through five participants attendance from two perspectives, revealing that (1) the mean summation of the vertical force components is 98.67% ± 7.21% body weight, exhibiting good consistency, and mean ratio of horizontal component force to body weight is 2.18% ± 1.77%. (2) the predicted muscle activity using the vector forces as input to the sleep position model aligns with the measured muscle activity (%MVC), with correlation coefficient over 0.7. The proposed method contributes to the vector force distribution understanding and the analysis of musculoskeletal loads during sleep, providing valuable insights for mattress design and evaluation. This work addresses the issues of long-term leakage rate prediction, which is crucial for durability study of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). A theoretical model is presented for the leakage rate of compressive seal structures in PEMFCs, based on the combination of three numerical techniques, namely Lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) simulations for rough wall interfacial gaps, a numerical 3D rough-surface generation technique, and Finite-Element-Analysis (FEA) for micro-contact mechanics of single asperity. The model clearly reveals the quantitative influence of various factors on the leakage rate without any empirical regression coefficients, and therefore can be easily integrated with structural mechanics and aging mechanism analyses. Long term sealing performance comparisons with three types of rubber material identify liquid silicone rubber to have the optimal durability. When influences of water environment are taken into account, an accelerated degradation of sealing performance can be observed after approximately 3000 h of operation. In addition, the effect of stress loss on leakage rate can be effectively suppressed by reducing surface roughness, reducing gasket thickness and increasing strain level. The proposed theoretical model provides an effective approach for the design of metal-bipolar-plate PEMFCs seal structures. • A theoretical leakage-prediction model is proposed on the basis of interfacial flow calculation. • The model can be easily integrated with material mechanical and aging analyses. • Long-term sealing performance of different sealing designs is further quantitatively evaluated. • The influence of stress loss is proven to be suppressed under guidance of the model. Monitoring the shipyard production state is of great significance to shipbuilding industry development and coastal resource utilization. In this article, it is the first time that satellite remote sensing (RS) data is utilized to monitor the shipyard production state dynamically and efficiently, which can make up for the traditional production state data collection mode. According to the imaging characteristics of optical remote sensing images in shipyards with a different production state, the characteristics are analyzed to establish reliable production state evidence. Firstly, in order to obtain the characteristics of the production state of optical remote sensing data, the high-level semantic information in the shipyard is extracted by transfer learning convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Secondly, in the evidence fusion, for the conflict evidence from the core sites of the shipyard, an improved DS evidence fusion method is proposed, which constructs the correlation metric to measure the degree of conflict in evidence and designs the similarity metric to measure the credibility of evidence. Thirdly, the weight of all the evidence is calculated according to the similarity metric to correct the conflict evidence. The introduction of the iterative idea is motivated by the fact that the fusion result aligns more closely with the desired result, the iterative idea is introduced to correct the fusion result. This method can effectively solve the conflict of evidence and effectively improve the monitoring accuracy of the shipyard production state. In the experiments, the Yangtze River Delta and the Bohai Rim are selected to verify that the proposed method can accurately recognize the shipyard production state, which reveals the potential of satellite RS images in shipyard production state monitoring, and also provides a new research thought perspective for other industrial production state monitoring. High-efficiency rock breaking technology is an important problem to be solved urgently in deep mining. The existing auxiliary rock breaking technology for coal mine excavation has problems such as polluting coal, high requirements for tool materials, and difficulty in subsequent washing. In this paper, an active excitation cutting system for rotary cylinder of cantilever roadheader based on alternating valve is proposed. According to the classical calculation formula of cutting load of roadheader, considering the stiffness-damping characteristics of cutting part and cutting cylinder, the simulation algorithm of cutting load is compiled based on MATLAB simulation analysis software. The excitation cutting experiments of different cutting depths are carried out on the cutting test bench, and compared with the simulation algorithm of cutting load. Taking the cutting load as the discriminant index, the influence of oil supply pressure and excitation frequency of rotary cylinder on the cutting load is analyzed based on the simulation algorithm of cutting load. The results show that the error between the simulation results and the experimental results of the active excitation state is less than 12%, and the two are in good agreement. Under the condition of 30 HZ, when the excitation amplitude is 8 Mpa, 10 Mpa, 12 Mpa, 14 Mpa, when the rotary cylinder excitation amplitude is 10 Mpa, the minimum is 131.42 KN. Compared with the rotary cylinder excitation amplitude under the condition of 10 Mpa, when the excitation frequency is 30 HZ, 35 HZ, 40 HZ, 45 HZ, when the excitation frequency is 40 HZ, the minimum is 83.08 KN, indicating that changing the excitation amplitude or oil supply pressure of the rotary cylinder is helpful to adjust the cutting performance. In this work, a model for predicting the leakage rate was developed to investigate the effect of irradiation on the sealing performance of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) O-rings. The model is based on a mesoscopic interfacial gap flow simulation and accurately predicts the sealing performance of irradiated and non-irradiated materials by utilizing the gap height as an indicator in a mechanical simulation of the O-ring under operating conditions. A comparison with vacuum test results indicates that the model is a good predictor of leak initiation. The positive pressure leakage of the O-rings was investigated numerically. The results show the following. The sealing performance of the non-irradiated O-ring is much better than that of the irradiated one. The sealing performance is the worst at 0. 713 MGy and the best at 1.43 MGy, and the seal is maintained at an absorbed dose of 3.55 MGy. A theoretical analysis of the non-monotonic variation using the proposed model shows that the leakage behavior of the O-rings depends not only on the material properties but also on the roughness and prestressing properties. Finally, a method was proposed to classify the sealing performance, using the maximum allowable leakage rate as an indicator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• A leak rate prediction model is proposed for hatch seals, facilitating the assessment of various parameters' effects. • The model is validated through comprehensive leakage tests on hatch seals with various structural parameters. • Parametric studies are performed to determine parameter sensitivity under different levels of pressure. • Response surface analysis is performed to guide the optimization of hatch seals under different operating pressures. The aim of this study is to establish a multi-parameter leakage rate prediction model for the sealing structure of large diameter hatches, enabling direct enhancements the hatch's sealing structure. The model integrates mesoscopic interfacial flow simulations and macroscopic structural deformation simulations to facilitate comprehensive analyses. This approach allows for quantitative assessment of various parameters influencing the leakage rate, including sealing surface morphology, material properties, structural dimensions, and operating environment. A leakage rate test was conducted in which several parameters were adjustable, validating the proposed model's accuracy through close agreement between experimental measurements and theoretical predictions. The effects of four parameters were examined: bolt preload force F n , cover flange thickness t c , gasket thickness t g , and gasket inner diameter D i,g. The leakage rate was found to be the most sensitive parameter to changes in F n when compared to t c , t g , and D i,g. The effects of t c , t g , and D i,g grew more prominent only at pressures exceeding 1.0 MPa. With leakage rate as the response quantity, response surface analysis was implemented to clarify the interaction between the four parameters. The results indicated that the optimal solutions for two cases with design pressures of 0.66 MPa and 2.0 MPa were essentially similar; differences were observed in their respective worst-case scenarios. Under high pressure and medium-level preloading, hatches should be designed to avoid cases wherein two or three structural parameters simultaneously reach lower levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
