Abstract

The Sc-Zn system has been critically reviewed and assessed by means of CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagram) approach. By means of first-principles calculation, the enthalpies of formation at 0 K for the ScZn, ScZn2, Sc17Zn58, Sc3Zn17 and ScZn12 have been computed with the desire to assist thermodynamic modeling. A set of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters for the Sc-Zn system is then obtained. The calculated phase diagram and thermodynamic properties agree well with the experimental data and first-principles calculations, respectively.

Abstract

Transdifferentiation is a process in which a cell committed to a particular specialization changes to another quite distinct type. It occurs during embryological development and some pathological processes, and causes the tumor cells to express a phenotype different from that of their normal progenitors. Neoplastic transdifferentiation involves pathogenesis of cancer subtype, transition between neoplastic epithelia and neuroendocrine cell, transition between neoplastic epithelia and mesenchyme, as well as transition between non-neuroectodermal and neuroectodermal cells. We propose that differentiation disturbance of cancer cells should include not only lower-, un-, or de-differentiation, but also transdifferentiation. Tumor cell transdifferentiation results from genetic instabilities. In some type of neoplastic transition, the initiation may be induced by extracellular matrix and growth factors.

31. Effects of CeO2 Additions on the Structure and Dielectric Properties of Aluminoborosilicate Glasses

Abstract

Glasses with compositions 15Al2O3-20B2O3-50SiO2-5CaO-(10-x)MgO-xCeO2 (x=0, 1, 2 and 3 mol %) were prepared by conventional melting method. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that the addition of CeO2 converted trigonal boron ([B) to tetrahedral boron ([B). The glass transition temperatures (Tg) were determined using a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Tg increased with increasing CeO2 content. Thus, the addition of CeO2 instead of MgO strengthened the glass network. The dielectric constant εr and loss tanδ were measured for these glasses at 105 Hz. The decrease in εr and tanδ could be attributed to the increase in the rigidity of the glass network as the CeO2 content increased.

32. Effects of Nano-Al2O3p on Hot Corrosion Resistance of NiCoCrAlY Cladded Coatings

Abstract

Three NiCoCrAlY cladded coatings reinforced by different contents of nano- Al2O3p and one without nano-Al2O3p were prepared on a Ni-base super alloy using laser cladding technique. Hot corrosion of the NiCoCrAlY coatings in Na2SO4/K2SO4 (75:25, wt. /wt.) mixture was performed at 1050 °C in static air. The effects and influencing mechanism of nano-Al2O3p on the hot corrosion behavior of the coatings were discussed. Results indicate that the hot corrosion resistance of the coatings with nano-Al2O3p is better than that of the one without nano-Al2O3p, among which the one with 1.0 wt. % nano-Al2O3p presented the best hot corrosion resistance. The improvement of the hot corrosion resistance is largely due to the refinement of the microstructure after adding nano-Al2O3p.

The paper mainly reviewed the electrical resistivity and application of Cu3N thin films. The electrical resistivity increases from 2×10-5Ω•cm to 2×102Ω•cm. The application of Cu3N thin films as write-once optical recording materials and anode material for Li-ion rechargeable batteries was also presented.

Abstract: The copper nitride thin films were prepared on glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering method. At pure nitrogen atmosphere, the nitrogen flow rate affects the copper nitride thin films’ structures. Only a little part of nitrogen atoms insert into the body center of Cu3N structure and parts of nitrogen atoms insert into Cu3N crystallites boundary at higher nitrogen flow rate. But the indirect optical energy gap, E opg, decreases with increasing nitrogen flow rate. The typical value of E opg is 1.57eV. In a nitrogen and argon mixture atmosphere, when the nitrogen partial was less than 0.2Pa at 50sccm total flow rate, the (111) peak of copper nitride appears. Thermal decomposition temperature of Cu3N thin films deposited in pure nitrogen and 30sccm flow rate was less than 300°C. The surface morphology was smooth. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
