Abstract Objective Cystic echinococcosis (CE) represents a profoundly perilous zoonotic disease. The advent of viral macrogenomics has facilitated the exploration of hitherto uncharted viral territories. In the scope of this investigation, our objective is to scrutinize disparities in the intestinal microbiotic ecosystems of canines dwelling in elevated terrains and those afflicted by Echinococcus infection, employing the tool of viral macrogenomics. Methods In this study, we collected a comprehensive total of 1,970 fecal samples from plateau dogs infected with Echinococcus, as well as healthy control plateau dogs from the Yushu and Guoluo regions in the highland terrain of China. These samples were subjected to viral macrogenomic analysis to investigate the viral community inhabiting the canine gastrointestinal tract. Results Our meticulous analysis led to the identification of 136 viral genomic sequences, encompassing eight distinct viral families. Conclusion The outcomes of this study hold the potential to enhance our comprehension of the intricate interplay between hosts, parasites, and viral communities within the highland canine gut ecosystem. Through the examination of phage presence, it may aid in early detection or assessment of infection severity, providing valuable insights into Echinococcus infection and offering prospects for potential treatment strategies.

The utilisation of aluminium-based silicon carbide composites (SiCp/Al) is on the rise. However, during the grinding process, where abrasive particles compel SiC particles into the aluminium matrix, stress concentration occurs near the interface between the two phases. This phenomenon results in adverse surface deformation accompanied by residual compressive stress (RCS). Consequently, a pulsed laser-ultrasonic-assisted grinding method (PL-UAG) has been proposed. The effectiveness of the method is verified through grinding experiments. Moreover, the influence process of the thermal effect of pulsed laser and the evolution mechanism of microscopic RS near the SiCp/Al two-phase interface are revealed through molecular dynamics simulation. The experimental results show that the surface RCS of SiCp/Al gradually decreases and transforms into residual tensile stress (RTS) with the increase of laser power. The RCS increases with the grinding depth. The RCS is reduced to 17 Mpa and the surface roughness Sa value is reduced to 0.110 μm with the laser power is 40 W and the grinding depth is 1 μm. The simulation results show that the energy dissipation process of pulsed laser helps to reduce thermal deformation and damage. The laser-induced thermal effect reduces the deformation of the aluminium matrix caused by particle extrusion and inhibits the formation and slip of dislocations in the aluminium matrix. In addition, the ultrasonic shock effect effectively weakens the RTS generated by the laser.

Salt stress severely reduces photosynthetic efficiency, resulting in adverse effects on crop growth and yield production. Two key thylakoid membrane lipid components, monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (MGDG) and digalactosyldiacylglycerol (DGDG), were perturbed under salt stress. MGDG synthase 1 (MGD1) is one of the key enzymes for the synthesis of these galactolipids. To investigate the function of OsMGD1 in response to salt stress, the OsMGD1 overexpression (OE) and RNA interference (Ri) rice lines, and a wild type (WT), were used. Compared with WT, the OE lines showed higher chlorophyll content and biomass under salt stress. Besides this, the OE plants showed improved photosynthetic performance, including light absorption, energy transfer, and carbon fixation. Notably, the net photosynthetic rate and effective quantum yield of photosystem II in the OE lines increased by 27.5% and 25.8%, respectively, compared to the WT. Further analysis showed that the overexpression of OsMGD1 alleviated the negative effects of salt stress on photosynthetic membranes and oxidative defense by adjusting membrane lipid composition and fatty acid levels. In summary, OsMGD1-mediated membrane lipid remodeling enhanced salt tolerance in rice by maintaining membrane stability and optimizing photosynthetic efficiency.

The properties of asphalt binder play an essential role in the design life of asphalt pavement. Analysis of asphalt mechanical behaviors based on the chemical structures provides the theoretical basis for the improvement of asphalt performance in service life. Intermolecular interactions have a significant impact on the macroscopic properties of asphalt, a colloidal material, resulting in the parameters characterizing asphalt molecular structures fail to directly connect with mechanical properties of asphalt. This paper introduces the supramolecular theory, presents a brief review of existing supramolecular models and research methods of asphalt, aiming to explore a new methodology for the investigation between asphalt microstructures and macroscopic properties. Results showed the supramolecular theory focuses on the intermolecular interactions, providing more accurate indicators for the investigation on the asphalt supramolecules. Supramolecular analysis of asphalt has proposed feasible methods and established favorable connections with asphalt properties, giving a new view of understanding asphalt microstructure and a new approach to capture mechanical behaviors of asphalt.

ABSTRACT The majority of currently emerging infectious illnesses are zoonotic infections, which have caused serious public health and economic implications. The development of viral metagenomics has helped us to explore unknown viruses. We collected 1,970 canine feces from Yushu and Guoluo in the plateau region of China for this study to do a metagenomics analysis of the viral community of the canine digestive tract. Our analysis identified 203 novel viruses, classified into 11 known families and 2 unclassified groups. These viruses include the hepatitis E virus, first identified in dogs, and the astrovirus, coronavirus, polyomavirus, and others. The relationship between the newly identified canine viruses and known viruses was investigated through the use of phylogenetic analysis. Furthermore, we demonstrated the cross-species transmission of viruses and predicted new viruses that may cause diseases in both humans and animals, providing technical support for the prevention and control of diseases caused by environmental pollution viruses. IMPORTANCE Most emerging infectious diseases are due to zoonotic disease agents. Because of their effects on the security of human or animal life, agriculture production, and food safety, zoonotic illnesses and livestock diseases are of worldwide significance. Because dogs are closely related to humans and domestic animals, they serve as one of the important links in the transmission of zoonotic and livestock diseases. Canines can contaminate the environment in which humans live such as water and soil through secretions, potentially altering the human gut microbiota or causing diseases. Our study enriched the viral community in the digestive tract microbiome of dogs and found types of viruses that threaten human health, providing technical support for the prevention and control of early warning of diseases caused by environmental contaminant viruses.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers. Oridonin, a traditional Chinese medicine, is believed to inhibit tumor growth, but its particular effects on breast cancer remain unknown. In this study, we examined oridonin's effects on 4T1, MCF-7, and MDAMB-231 cellular activity using CCK8. Scratch assays were used to detect oridonin's effects on cellular migration. Oridonin's effects on the breast cancer cell cycle were studied using flow cytometry, and expression of cell cycle related proteins p53, CDK2, and p21 was detected using Western blot assays. Metabolomics assays were used to detect changes in small molecule metabolites and metabolic pathways in breast cancer cells after treatment with oridonin. Oridonin's effects on breast cancer growth were also studied using xenograft mice. Metabolomics assays were used to detect changes in metabolites and metabolic pathways in xenograft mouse plasma in a control group, model group, and drug administration group. Experimental results showed that oridonin could significantly inhibit breast cancer growth both in vivo and in vitro. Scratch experiments showed that oridonin could inhibit breast cancer cell migration. Oridonin was also able to arrest cells in S phase by affecting several cell cycle-related proteins, including p53, CDK2, and p21. Metabolomic analysis of 4T1 cells identified a total of 33 differential metabolites, including multiple amino acids (such as l-Glutamic acid, l-Asparagine, l-Histidine, l-Valine, and l-Isoleucine). KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed significant changes in aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, and in multiple amino acid metabolic pathways. Plasma metabolomic analyses of xenograft mice revealed 28 differentially-expressed metabolites between the different animal model groups, including multiple amino acids. KEGG pathway analysis showed significant alterations in multiple amino acid metabolic pathways in oridonin-treated mice. Additionally, changes in the expression of PI3K, AKT and mTOR proteins, as well as in branched amino acids, suggest that oridonin affects the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway by inhibiting the biosynthesis of valine, leucine and isoleucine. Taken together, our results suggest that oridonin has strong anti-tumor activity in vitro and in vivo, and has potential as an adjuvant to breast cancer treatment regimens.

ABSTRACT Aquaculture is important for food security and nutrition. The economy has recently been significantly threatened and the risk of zoonoses significantly increased by aquatic diseases, and the ongoing introduction of new aquatic pathogens, particularly viruses, continues to represent a hazard. Yet, our knowledge of the diversity and abundance of fish viruses is still limited. Here, we conducted a metagenomic survey of different species of healthy fishes caught in the Lhasa River, Tibet, China, and sampled intestinal contents, gills, and tissues. To be more precise, by identifying and analyzing viral genomes, we aim to determine the abundance, diversity, and evolutionary relationships of viruses in fish with other potential hosts. Our analysis identified 28 potentially novel viruses, 22 of which may be associated with vertebrates, across seven viral families. During our research, we found several new strains of viruses in fish, including papillomavirus, hepadnavirus, and hepevirus. Additionally, we discovered two viral families, Circoviridae and Parvoviridae, which were prevalent and closely related to viruses that infect mammals. These findings further expand our understanding of highland fish viruses and highlight the emerging view that fish harbor large, unknown viruses. IMPORTANCE The economy and zoonoses have recently been significantly threatened by aquatic diseases. Yet, our knowledge of the diversity and abundance of fish viruses is still limited. We identified the wide genetic diversity of viruses that these fish were harboring. Since there are currently few studies on the virome of fish living in the Tibet highland, our research adds to the body of knowledge. This discovery lays the groundwork for future studies on the virome of fish species and other highland animals, preserving the ecological equilibrium on the plateau.

Silicon carbide particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites (SiCp/Al) find diverse applications in engineering. Nevertheless, SiCp/Al exhibit limited machinability due to their special structure. A pulsed laser ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting (PLUVAC) method was proposed to enhance the machining characteristics of SiCp/Al and decrease surface defects. The finite element model was constructed, considering both the thermal effect of the pulsed laser and the location distribution of SiC particles. The model has been developed to analyze the damage forms of SiC particles and the formation mechanisms for the surface morphology. The influence of pulsed laser power on average cutting forces has also been analyzed. Research results indicate that PLUVAC accelerates the transition from the brittleness to the plastic of SiC particles, which helps to reduce surface scratching caused by fragmented SiC particles. Furthermore, the enhancement of surface quality is attributed to the decrease in surface cracks and the beneficial coating effect of the Al matrix. The accuracy of the simulation is verified by experiments, and the feasibility of PLUVAC method to enhance the surface quality of SiCp/Al is confirmed.

SiCp/Al is a difficult-to-machine material that makes it easy to produce surface defects during machining, and researchers focus on reducing the surface defects. Vibration-assisted machining technology is considered an effective method to reduce surface defects by changing the trajectory and contact mode of the abrasive. Aiming at the problem of SiCp/Al processing technology, a vibration-assisted lapping device (VLD) is designed, and elliptical motion is synthesized by a set of parallel symmetrical displacement output mechanisms. The working parameters of the device were tested by simulation and experiment, and the lapping performance was verified. Then, the effects of removal characteristics and process parameters on surface roughness and lapping force were analyzed by simulation and experiment. Simulation and experimental results show that frequency and amplitude that are too low or too high are not conducive to the advantages of NVL. The best surface quality was 54 nm, obtained at A = 8 μm and f = 850 Hz.

The black-necked crane is the only species of crane that lives in the high-altitude region of the Tibet Plateau. At present, there is little research on viral diseases of the black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis). In this study, a viral metagenomic approach was employed to investigate the fecal virome of black-necked cranes in Saga County, Shigatse City, Tibet, China. The identified virus families carried by black-necked cranes mainly include Genomoviridae, Parvoviridae, and Picornaviridae. The percentages of sequence reads belonging to these three virus families were 1.6%, 3.1%, and 93.7%, respectively. Among them, one genome was characterized as a novel species in the genus Grusopivirus of the family Picornaviridae, four new parvovirus genomes were obtained and classified into four different novel species within the genus Chaphamaparvovirus of the subfamily Hamaparvovirinae, and four novel genomovirus genomes were also acquired and identified as members of three different species, including Gemykroznavirus haeme1, Gemycircularvirus ptero6, and Gemycircularvirus ptero10. All of these viruses were firstly detected in fecal samples of black-necked cranes. This study provides valuable information for understanding the viral community composition in the digestive tract of black-necked cranes in Tibet, which can be used for monitoring, preventing, and treating potential viral diseases in black-necked cranes.

Abstract Self‐powerability is a new trend in the development of portable devices. Harvesting biomechanical energy to power personal information electronics is of great significance. In this work, we report a wearable noncontact free‐rotating hybrid nanogenerator (WRG), which is constituted by a triboelectric nanogenerator and an electromagnetic generator. A continuous output over 2 seconds can be achieved during one instantaneous incentive by external force, which is improved by two orders of magnitude compared to other wearable nanogenerators due to its unique mechanical energy storage design. The WRG can be integrated into shoes to generate an output energy of 14.68 mJ in each stepping, which meets the power requirements of most personal information electronics. The wireless sensor, GPS, and smartphone can be powered by the WRG continuously. The WRG is expected to be applied in self‐powered information electronics extensively in the future.

ABSTRACT The gut virome is a reservoir of diverse symbiotic and pathogenic viruses coevolving with their hosts, and yet limited research has explored the gut viromes of highland-dwelling rare species. Using viral metagenomic analysis, the viral communities of the Phrynocephalus lizards living in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were investigated. Phage-encoded functional genes and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) were analyzed. The viral communities of different lizard species were all predominated by bacteriophages, especially the Caudovirales order. The virome of Phrynocephalus erythrurus living around the Namtso Lake possessed a unique structure, with the greatest abundance of the Parvoviridae family and the highest number of exclusive viral species. Several vertebrate-infecting viruses were discovered, including caliciviruses, astroviruses, and parvoviruses. Phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that the virus hallmark genes of bacteriophages possessed high genetic diversity. After functional annotation, the majority of phage-associated functional genes were classified in the energy metabolism category. In addition, plenty of ARGs belonging to the multidrug category were discovered, and five ARGs were exclusive to the virome from Phrynocephalus theobaldi. This study provided the first insight into the structure and function of the virome in highland lizards, contributing to the protection of threatened lizard species. Also, our research is of exemplary significance for the gut virome research of lizard species and other cold-blooded and highland-dwelling animals, prompting a better understanding of the interspecific differences and transmission of commensal viruses. IMPORTANCE The Phrynocephalus lizards inhabiting the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) are considered to be the highest-altitude lizard species in the world, and they have been added to the IUCN list of threatened species. Living in the QTP with hypoxic, arid, natural conditions, the lizards presented a unique pattern of gut virome, which could provide both positive and negative effects, such as the enrichment of functional genes and the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). This work provides the foundation for further research on the gut virome in these endangered lizard species and other cold-blooded and highland-dwelling animals, contributing to the maintenance of ecological balance on the plateau.

This paper explores how fear sentiment affects the price of Bitcoin by employing the rolling-window Granger causality tests. The analysis reveals negative influences from the volatility index (VIX) to Bitcoin price (BTC), which ascertains that Bitcoin can not be considered a haven in fear sentiment. Due to the liquidity in economic downside risks, BTC may decrease with high VIX to hedge losses, increasing during low VIX periods. The empirical results conflict with the intertemporal capital asset pricing model, which underlines that the increasing VIX can promote the price of Bitcoin. In turn, BTC positively impacts VIX, which shows that Bitcoin price can be treated as the main indicator for a more comprehensive analysis of the fear index. Under severe global uncertainty and changeable fluctuation of market sentiment, investors can optimize investment decisions based on market fear sentiment. The government can also consider VIX to grasp the trend of BTC to participate in cryptocurrency speculation effectively. First published online 18 January 2022

ABSTRACTTo investigate the composition of human papillomavirus (HPV) types in anogenital warts (AGWs), viral nucleic acid in 110 AGWs, pooled into 11 specimen pools, were subjected to viral metagenomic analysis. After finding HPV7 in AGWs, conventional PCR screening was performed for HPV7 in other 190 individual AGW specimens. Viral metagenomic results indicated that 29 different types of HPV were recovered, with HPV11 and HPV6 showing the highest proportion of sequence reads. HPV7 was detected in 7 of 11 pools, 5 of which contained abundant HPV7 sequence reads. 24 complete genomes of HPV were acquired in viral metagenomic analysis, including 5 HPV7 genomes, based on which phylogenetic analysis and pairwise sequence comparison were conducted. PCR screening for HPV7 in other 190 individual AGW specimens revealed 25 positive cases (13.16%), of which the amplified fragments were sequenced and confirmed to be HPV7 sequences. Although HPV7 was generally found in hand warts and recently also in warts in toe webs, our data suggested that the role of HPV7 in AGW should be considered in the future clinical test and vaccine development for AGWs.

Hypertensive patients account for about 16% to 37% of the global population, and about 9.4 million people die each year from hypertension and its complications. Blood pressure is an important indicator for diagnosing hypertension. Currently, blood pressure measurement methods are mainly based on mercury sphygmomanometers in hospitals or electronic sphygmomanometers at home. However, people’s blood pressure changes with time, and using only the blood pressure value at the current moment to judge hypertension may cause misdiagnosis. Continuous blood pressure measurement can monitor sudden increases in blood pressure, and can also provide physicians with long-term continuous blood pressure changes as a diagnostic reference. In this article, we design an artificial intelligence-enhanced blood pressure monitoring wristband. The wristband’s sensors are based on piezoelectric nanogenerators, with a high signal-to-noise ratio of 29.7 dB. Through the transformer deep learning model, the wristband can predict blood pressure readings, and the loss value is lower than 4 mmHg. By wearing this blood pressure monitoring wristband, we realized three days of continuous blood pressure monitoring of the subjects. The blood pressure monitoring wristband is lightweight, has profound significance for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, and has wide application prospects in medical, military, aerospace and other fields.

Many factors affect the movement of rockfall. Thus, this study explored the influence of rockfall shape, slope angle, angular velocity, slope hardness, rockfall mass, and slope surface roughness on the stopping position and potential energy loss rate based on an orthogonal experiment. To study the key factors affecting the movement of rockfall, 2500 sets of orthogonal tests were carried out by using ROCFALL 8.0 (ROCSCIENCE) numerical simulation program. SPSS19.0 software was used to perform importance analysis and correlation analysis on the test results. The analysis results show that rockfall shape has the greatest influence on the stopping distance. There is a significant positive linear correlation between the number of rockfall edges and the stopping distance of rockfall on the asphalt road. The slope angle has the greatest influence on the potential energy loss rate, and there is a significant negative linear correlation between the slope angle and the potential energy loss rate. In the case of a low angle slope, the stopping position of rockfall is more concentrated. Therefore, in the process of mountain engineering construction, more attention should be paid to the influence of rockfall shape and slope angle on rockfall hazard protection.

In view of the limitation of fault diagnosis methods in substation intelligent patrol system, a fault diagnosis method based on multi-sensors information fusion is proposed. In the field of fault diagnosis, this method can deal with uncertain and imprecise information by using fuzzy theory, and has a high self-study capability based on neural network. Collecting samples of data through establishing many sensors in the scene of the intelligent patrol system, and then through the BP algorithm of fuzzy neural network training to achieve accurate fault diagnosis function of the intelligent patrol system. By comparing the result of an example, it shows that, compared with using single information, using multi-sensors information as the diagnosis method is more accurate and reliable in the intelligent patrol system.
