Abstract Background Lychee seeds were fermented by three kinds of bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum, Saccharomyces cerevillus and ganoderma lucidum mycelium), and two effective strains were selected by two indexes of activity content and antioxidant, so as to further verify whether lychee seeds have waste multiplication effect and can protect cells damaged by oxidation from anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and safety. Results The contents of polyphenols, flavonoids and proteins in the solution fermented by Ganoderma lucidum mycelium did not increase, thus affecting the antioxidant capacity of the solution was far less than that of the water extract. The active content of the other two fermentation solutions was higher than that of the water extract, and the ability of scavenging free radicals of the two solutions increased with the increase of the volume fraction. At the cellular level, the two fermentation solutions showed repair effects on UVA-induced damaged cells. The contents of type I collagen (COL-1), total antioxidant capacity and ELN were increased, the contents of reactive oxygen species and MDA were decreased, and the expressions of inflammatory factors IL-6, TNF-a, iNOS and COX-2 were decreased in HaCaT cells. From the gene level, the mRNA contents of IL-6, TNF-a, Caspase-3, Caspase-9, Bax and Bcl were significantly decreased. The test of chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (HTET CAM) showed that there was no bleeding and litchi seed fermentation liquid was not irritating. Conclusions Therefore, two kinds of litchi seed fermentation can be used as natural plant raw materials for cosmetics, and have strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging functions on skin, and also have good human safety. During major health emergencies (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) people often fear missing relevant information. COVID-19 information fear of missing out (FOMO) is a phenomenon where people feel anxiety about losing control of COVID-19-related information. The present study aimed to examine how COVID-19 information FOMO relates to mental health (e.g., depression and anxiety), the mediating role of resilience, and the moderating role of personality types during the COVID-19 pandemic. We surveyed 1442 Chinese undergraduates (Mage = 21.68 ± 2.35 years) on the relevant variables. The results showed that COVID-19 information FOMO was positively associated with depression and anxiety, and resilience mediated these associations. Latent profile analysis (LPA) identified three personality types (undercontrolled, adaptive, and overcontrolled). Personality types moderated the mediation models, in which the indirect effects were only significant in the participants classified in the undercontrolled group rather than the participants classified in the other two groups. This study told us that undergraduates’ mental health, particularly that of the undercontrollers, should be paid attention to when responding to a major public health emergency (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic).

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a cellular reprogramming process that converts epithelial cells into mesenchymal-like cells with migratory and invasive capabilities. The initiation and regulation of EMT is closely linked to a range of transcription factors, cell adhesion molecules and signaling pathways, which play a key role in cancer metastasis and drug resistance. The regulation of ferroptosis is intricately linked to various cell death pathways, intracellular iron homeostasis, and the protein network governing iron supply and storage. The ability of ferroptosis to disrupt cancer cells and overcome drug resistance lies in its control of intracellular iron ion levels. EMT process can promote the accumulation of iron ions, providing conditions for ferroptosis. Conversely, ferroptosis may impact the regulatory network of EMT by modulating transcription factors, signaling pathways, and cell adhesion molecules. Thus, ferroptosis related genes and signaling pathways and oxidative homeostasis play important roles in the regulation of EMT. In this paper, we review the role of ferroptosis related genes and their signaling pathways in regulating cancer EMT to better understand the crosstalk mechanism between ferroptosis and EMT, aiming to provide better therapeutic strategies for eradicating cancer cells and overcoming drug resistance.

Influenza A virus (IAV) H1N1 infection is a constant threat to human health and it remains so due to the lack of an effective treatment. Since melatonin is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory molecule with anti-viral action, in the present study we used melatonin to protect against H1N1 infection under in vitro and in vivo conditions. The death rate of the H1N1-infected mice was negatively associated with the nose and lung tissue local melatonin levels but not with serum melatonin concentrations. The H1N1-infected AANAT-/- melatonin-deficient mice had a significantly higher death rate than that of the WT mice and melatonin administration significantly reduced the death rate. All evidence confirmed the protective effects of melatonin against H1N1 infection. Further study identified that the mast cells were the primary targets of melatonin action, i.e., melatonin suppresses the mast cell activation caused by H1N1 infection. The molecular mechanisms involved melatonin down-regulation of gene expression for the HIF-1 pathway and inhibition of proinflammatory cytokine release from mast cells; this resulted in a reduction in the migration and activation of the macrophages and neutrophils in the lung tissue. This pathway was mediated by melatonin receptor 2 (MT2) since the MT2 specific antagonist 4P-PDOT significantly blocked the effects of melatonin on mast cell activation. Via targeting mast cells, melatonin suppressed apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cells and the lung injury caused by H1N1 infection. The findings provide a novel mechanism to protect against the H1N1-induced pulmonary injury, which may better facilitate the progress of new strategies to fight H1N1 infection or other IAV viral infections.

BackgroundAmbroxol is a widely used mucoactive drug in sputum clearance of respiratory diseases taken orally and by injection. However, there is a paucity of evidence for inhaled ambroxol in sputum clearance.MethodsThis study performed a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial at 19 centers in China. Hospitalized adult patients with mucopurulent sputum and expectoration difficulty were recruited. Patients were randomized by 1:1 to receive inhalation of either ambroxol hydrochloride solution 3 mL (22.5 mg) + 0.9% sodium chloride 3 mL or 0.9% sodium chloride 6 mL twice daily for 5 days, with an interval of more than 6 h. The primary efficacy endpoint was the absolute change in the sputum property score after treatment compared to the baseline in the intention-to-treat population.ResultsBetween 10 April 2018 and 23 November 2020, 316 patients were recruited and assessed for eligibility, of whom 138 who received inhaled ambroxol and 134 who received a placebo were included. Patients who received inhaled ambroxol had a significantly greater decrease in the sputum property score compared with patients who received inhalation of placebo (difference: −0.29; 95% CI: −0.53 to −0.05; p = 0.0215). Compared with the placebo, inhaled ambroxol also significantly reduced more expectoration volume in 24 h (difference: −0.18; 95% CI: −0.34 to −0.03; p = 0.0166). There was no significant difference in the proportion of adverse events between the two groups, and no deaths were reported.DiscussionIn hospitalized adult patients with mucopurulent sputum and expectoration difficulty, inhaled ambroxol was safe and effective for sputum clearance compared with a placebo.Clinical trial registration[https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=184677], Chinese Clinical Trial Registry [ChiCTR2200066348].

Polyphenols, as an important category of natural organics, are ubiquitous in plants and structurally diverse. Batch experiments were conducted to investigate the role of natural polyphenol, such as gallic acid (GA) and tannic acid (TA), in the biochemical behavior of Cr(VI) in soil media. GA and TA can effectively convert Cr(VI) to Cr(III) under neutral conditions (pH 7.0). However, there are significant differences in the transport, leaching toxicity, and bioavailability of reduced Cr(III) between the two systems. UV–vis spectra, chromium (Cr) mass balance, speciation distribution, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to explore the intrinsic mechanisms of Cr(VI) reduction and (im)mobilization in the presence of GA or TA. Results showed that the reduction of Cr(VI) by GA was accompanied by poor immobilization of reduced Cr(III), especially at high GA concentrations (4–10 g/L), which was associated with the formation of soluble Cr(III) complexes. After treatment with 4 g/L GA, 51.49 ± 3.04% of the Cr in GA system was mobilized as complexes into aqueous phase. In contrast, the reduction of Cr(VI) and the subsequent precipitation of reduced Cr(III) was dominant in the TA system. After treatment with 4 g/L TA, 97.24 ± 0.31% of the total Cr in the TA system was immobilized into soil phase and transformed into more stable fractions. Our findings provide new insights into how natural organics shape the fate and transport of Cr in soils, which also have substantial implications for the development of Cr sequestration technology.

Abstract Mismanagement of various wastes especially waste water produced by tanning processes has caused serious environmental problems and ultimately impaired human health. Constant efforts have been making to alleviate the pollution of tannery wastewater (TWW), yet terminal treatment still takes dominance. In this review, research on TWW treatment from 2000 to 2021 was summarized, and main methods such as coagulation and flocculation, adsorption, biological treatment, membrane filtration, advanced oxidation process were briefly discussed. More detailed introduction was given to the method of electrochemical treatment since it has excellent performance such as environmental friendliness and high efficiency, hence attracting more and more research attention in recent years. In view of the harsh physi-chemical conditions of TWW, integrated or combined treatment methods are accordingly recommended with better performance and multi-function, however comprehensive studies on optimization of methods combination and cost-effectiveness are needed. The certain issues that the residue Cr in treatment sludge and high salinity in effluent still remain were put forward in this work and potential solutions were provided. Moreover, this review proposed the perspective that realizing multi-function, recycling, and intensification should be the developing direction for future TWW treatment. This review is expected to provide a general guide for researchers who aspire to ameliorate TWW pollution problems and understand various methods utilized in this field. Graphical abstract

Automated counting of grape berries has become one of the most important tasks in grape yield prediction. However, dense distribution of berries and the severe occlusion between berries bring great challenges to counting algorithm based on deep learning. The collection of data required for model training is also a tedious and expensive work. To address these issues and cost-effectively count grape berries, a semi-supervised counting of grape berries in the field based on density mutual exclusion (CDMENet) is proposed. The algorithm uses VGG16 as the backbone to extract image features. Auxiliary tasks based on density mutual exclusion are introduced. The tasks exploit the spatial distribution pattern of grape berries in density levels to make full use of unlabeled data. In addition, a density difference loss is designed. The feature representation is enhanced by amplifying the difference of features between different density levels. The experimental results on the field grape berry dataset show that CDMENet achieves less counting errors. Compared with the state of the arts, coefficient of determination (R2) is improved by 6.10%, and mean absolute error and root mean square error are reduced by 49.36% and 54.08%, respectively. Scintillator is a critical component to detect high‐energy particles or rays, which is widely used in deep space exploration, security inspection, and nondestructive testing and medical diagnosis, such as X‐ray imaging and computed tomography (CT). However, the wider application of traditional inorganic and organic scintillators is limited by the complex operation process or poor adaptability to changeable environment, and there remains a demand to develop green and stable scintillators with high sensitivity and low detection limit. Herein, the one‐step preparation of lead‐free perovskite Cs3Cu2I5 scintillator film for high‐definition X‐ray imaging by conventional chemical vapor deposition method is reported. Cs3Cu2I5 demonstrates good stability and bright‐blue emission at 445 nm and superhigh photoluminescence quantum yield (85.14%). Importantly, upon X‐ray irradiation, the Cs3Cu2I5 perovskite film exhibits light yield (≈39 251 photons MeV−1) as high as two times of the commercially available Ce:LuAG single‐crystal scintillator (≈22 000 photons MeV−1). Furthermore, the practical demonstration for a bamboo stick and insect specimens illustrates sensitive scintillation response to X‐ray signals with superior linearity and high‐quality images in X‐ray photography and CT. Overall, Cs3Cu2I5 film provides nontoxicity, high radioluminescence intensity, and good stability, it can be regarded as a competitive material for X‐ray imaging.

Background Identification of accurate prognostic biomarkers is still particularly urgent for improving the poor survival of lung cancer patients. In this study, we aimed to identity the potential biomarkers in Chinese lung cancer population via bioinformatics analysis. Methods In this study, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in lung cancer were identified using six datasets from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Subsequently, enrichment analysis was conducted to evaluate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in progression of lung cancer. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) and CytoHubba analysis were performed to determine the hub genes. The GEPIA, Human Protein Atlas (HPA), Kaplan-Meier plotter, and TIMER databases were used to explore the hub genes. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of hub genes. Reverse transcription quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to validate the expression levels of hub genes in 10 pairs of lung cancer paired tissues. Results A total of 499 overlapping DEGs (160 upregulated and 339 downregulated genes) were identified in the microarray datasets. DEGs were mainly associated with pathways in cancer, focal adhesion, and protein digestion and absorption. There were nine hub genes (CDKN3, MKI67, CEP55, SPAG5, AURKA, TOP2A, UBE2C, CHEK1 and BIRC5) identified by PPI and module analysis. In GEPIA database, the expression levels of these genes in lung cancer tissues were significantly upregulated compared with normal lung tissues. The results of prognostic analysis showed that relatively higher expression of hub genes was associated with poor prognosis of lung cancer. In HPA database, most hub genes were highly expressed in lung cancer tissues. The hub genes have good diagnostic efficiency in lung cancer and normal tissues. The expression of any hub gene was associated with the infiltration of at least two immune cells. qRT-PCR confirmed that the expression level of CDKN3, MKI67, CEP55, SPAG5, AURKA, TOP2A were highly expressed in lung cancer tissues. Conclusions The hub genes and functional pathways identified in this study may contribute to understand the molecular mechanisms of lung cancer. Our findings may provide new therapeutic targets for lung cancer patients.

ObjectivesIn December 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emerged in Wuhan City and rapidly spread across the world. The clinical characteristics of affected patients in different regions and populations may differ. Thus, this study aimed to identify the characteristics of the disease to provide an insight about the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.MethodsData on the demographic characteristics and clinical findings of the patients admitted at the First Hospital of Changsha from January 1, 2020 to February 10, 2020 were assessed.ResultsIn this study, there were 8 (3.8%) asymptomatic, 21 (10.0%) mild upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), and 180 (86.1%) pneumonia cases. In total, 47 (22.5%) patients resided in Wuhan, and 45 (21.5%) had recently traveled to Wuhan before disease onset. Moreover, 19 (9.1%) had contact with people from Wuhan, and 69 (33.0%) were family cluster cases. The median incubation period was approximately 6.3 (range: 1.0-20.0) days. Fever and cough were the most common initial symptoms: 99 (49.3%) patients presented with fever, without cough; 59 (29.4%) with cough, without fever; and 33 (16.4%) with both fever and cough.ConclusionThe symptoms of patients with COVID-19 were relatively mild outside Wuhan, and family cluster was a remarkable epidemic characteristic. Special attention should be paid to asymptomatic patients.

Mast cells, widely residing in connective tissues and on mucosal surfaces, play significant roles in battling against influenza A viruses. To gain further insights into the host cellular responses of mouse mast cells with influenza A virus infection, such as the highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus H5N1 and the human pandemic influenza A H1N1, we employed high-throughput RNA sequencing to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and related signaling pathways. Our data revealed that H1N1-infected mouse mast P815 cells presented more up- and down-regulated genes compared with H5N1-infected cells. Gene ontology analysis showed that the up-regulated genes in H1N1 infection were enriched for more degranulation-related cellular component terms and immune recognition-related molecular functions terms, while the up-regulated genes in H5N1 infection were enriched for more immune-response-related biological processes. Network enrichment of the KEGG pathway analysis showed that DEGs in H1N1 infection were specifically enriched for the FoxO and autophagy pathways. In contrast, DEGs in H5N1 infection were specifically enriched for the NF-κB and necroptosis pathways. Interestingly, we found that Nbeal2 could be preferentially activated in H5N1-infected P815 cells, where the level of Nbeal2 increased dramatically but decreased in HIN1-infected P815 cells. Nbeal2 knockdown facilitated inflammatory cytokine release in both H1N1- and H5N1-infected P815 cells and aggravated the apoptosis of pulmonary epithelial cells. In summary, our data described a transcriptomic profile and bioinformatic characterization of H1N-1 or H5N1-infected mast cells and, for the first time, established the crucial role of Nbeal2 during influenza A virus infection.

Bronchoscopy inspection, as a follow-up procedure next to the radiological imaging, plays a key role in the diagnosis and treatment design for lung disease patients. When performing bronchoscopy, doctors have to make a decision immediately whether to perform a biopsy. Because biopsies may cause uncontrollable and life-threatening bleeding of the lung tissue, thus doctors need to be selective with biopsies. In this paper, to help doctors to be more selective on biopsies and provide a second opinion on diagnosis, we propose a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for lung diseases, including cancers and tuberculosis (TB). Based on transfer learning (TL), we propose a novel TL method on the top of DenseNet: sequential fine-tuning (SFT). Compared with traditional fine-tuning (FT) methods, our method achieves the best performance. In a data set of recruited 81 normal cases, 76 TB cases and 277 lung cancer cases, SFT provided an overall accuracy of 82% while other traditional TL methods achieved an accuracy from 70% to 74%. The detection accuracy of SFT for cancers, TB, and normal cases are 87%, 54%, and 91%, respectively. This indicates that the CAD system has the potential to improve lung disease diagnosis accuracy in bronchoscopy and it may be used to be more selective with biopsies.

The evolution of starch synthase (SS) has been extensively analysed in the model plant rice, but there have been few detailed studies directed towards exploring the intron splicing variant effect on the divergence of the SS gene. We report here an example that the alternative splicing of a GC-AG intron induced a new splicing isoform of SSII-1 expressed in Oryza sativa japonica cultivar Zhonghua-15. In addition, a GT-AG intron flanking the alternative splicing GC-AG intron was simultaneously spliced at an incorrect position, inducing another intron fragment gained in mature SSII-1 RNA. Moreover, when a GT-AG intron from SSII-3 was artificially mutated into the GC-AG intron, a 28 bp fragment from the intron added to the mature RNA could be observed in transgenic rice. In this study, the alternative intron splicing of the GC-AG intron might offer more variants for genetic divergence of the starch synthase gene family in rice.

Let M be a discrete-time normal martingale satisfying some mild conditions. Then Gel’fand triple S(M)⊂L2(M)⊂S⁎(M) can be constructed of functionals of M, where elements of S(M) are called testing functionals of M, while elements of S⁎(M) are called generalized functionals of M. In this paper, we consider a quantum stochastic cable equation in terms of operators from S(M) to S⁎(M). Mainly with the 2D-Fock transform as the tool, we establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the equation. We also examine the continuity of the solution and its continuous dependence on initial values.

In this paper, we consider limit probability distributions of the quantum walk recently introduced by Wang and Ye (C.S. Wang and X.J. Ye, Quantum walk in terms of quantum Bernoulli noises, Quantum Inf. Process. 15 (2016), no. 5, 1897–1908). We first establish several technical theorems, which themselves are also interesting. Then, by using these theorems, we prove that, for a wide range of choices of the initial state, the above-mentioned quantum walk has a limit probability distribution of standard Gauss type, which actually gives a new limit theorem for the walk.

The inflammatory response and apoptosis have been proved to have a crucial role in the pathogenesis of the influenza A virus (IAV). Previous studies indicated that while IAV commonly causes pancreatitis and pancreatic damage in naturally and experimentally infected animals, the molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of IAV infection are less reported. In the present study, we showed for the first time that both avian-like (α-2,3-linked) and human-like (α-2,6-linked) sialic acid (SA) receptors were expressed by the mouse pancreatic cancer cell line PAN02 and the human pancreatic cancer cell line PANC-1. Using growth kinetics experiments, we also showed that PAN02 and PANC-1 cells supported the productive replication of the H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza while exhibited the limited replication of IAV subtypes H1N1 and H7N2 in vitro. The in vivo infection of H5N1 in pancreatic cells was confirmed by the histopathological and immunohistochemical staining of pancreas tissue from mice. Other than H1N1 and H7N2, severe damage and extensive positive signals were observed in pancreas of H5N1 infected mice. All three virus subtypes induced apoptosis but also triggered the infected PAN02 and PANC-1 cells to release pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines including interferon (IFN)-α, IFN-β, IFN-γ, chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interleukin (IL)-6. Notably, the subtypes of H5N1 could significantly upregulate these cytokines and chemokines in both two cells when compared with H1N1 and H7N2. The present data provide further understanding of the pathogenesis of H5N1 IAV in pancreatic cells derived from humans and mammals and may also benefit the development of new treatment against H5N1 influenza virus infection.

As a unitary quantum walk with infinitely many internal degrees of freedom, the quantum walk in terms of quantum Bernoulli noise (recently introduced by Wang and Ye) shows a rather classical asymptotic behavior, which is quite different from the case of the usual quantum walks with a finite number of internal degrees of freedom. In this paper, we further examine the structure of the walk. By using the Fourier transform on the state space of the walk, we obtain a formula that links the moments of the walk’s probability distributions directly with annihilation and creation operators on Bernoulli functionals. We also prove some other results on the structure of the walk. Finally, as an application of these results, we establish a quantum central limit theorem for the annihilation and creation operators themselves.

Background. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common subtype of lung cancer, and while advancements in diagnosis, surgery, radiotherapy, and molecular therapy have improved clinical prognosis, the long-term survival rate and quality of life of patients remain unsatisfactory. Therefore, identifying new prognostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets is crucial. Objectives. This study aimed to analyze the role of anoikis-related gene characteristics in LUAD. Materials and methods. The anoikis-related genes were obtained from the GeneCards database. Genetic expression data and clinical characteristic information were collected from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-LUAD, and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) GSE31210, GSE37745, and GSE68465 datasets. Random survival forest and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) models were applied to construct the risk model. An analysis of immune cell infiltration and function was performed with the scores. Results. Four prognosis-related genes (TLE1, GLI2, PLK1, and BAK1) were obtained and used to construct the anoikis score. We found that the patient survival rate was higher in the low-anoikis score (LAS) group. Moreover, both the stromal and immune scores were negatively correlated with the anoikis score. With the increase of the anoikis score, the levels of natural killer cells, regulatory T cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, B cells, and macrophages decreased. The anoikis score had a negative regulatory relationship with the immune response, natural killer cell activation and T cell activation. The TP53 mutation was significant in LUAD patients and was present in 56% of the high-anoikis score (HAS) group and in 40% of the LAS group. Conclusions. The anoikis score was associated with poor prognosis in LUAD patients. Anoikis-related genes were associated with tumor immune dysregulation and TP53 mutation in LUAD. The recommendation system can alleviate the problem of "information overload", tap the potential value of data, push personalized information to users in need, and improve information utilization. Sequence recommendation has become a hot research direction because of its practicality and high precision. Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have the natural advantage of capturing comprehensive relations among different entities, thus almost occupying a dominant position in sequence recommendation in the past few years. However, as Deep Learning (DL)-based methods are widely used to model local preferences under user behavior sequences, the global preference modeling of users is often underestimated, and usually, only some simple and crude user latent representations are introduced. Therefore, this paper proposes a sequential recommendation based on Fusing Session-Aware models and Self-Attention networks (FSASA). Specifically, we use the Self-Attentive Sequential Recommendation (SASRec) model as a global representation learning module to capture long-term preferences under user behavior sequences and further propose an improved session-aware sequential recommendation model as a local learning representation module from user model the user's dynamic preferences in the historical behavior, and finally use the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) module to calculate their weights. Experiments on three widely used recommendation datasets show that FSASA outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on two commonly used metrics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, experiments and numerical simulations were used to study the mechanical properties of all-C/C composite hybrid bonded/bolted joints. Experiments were conducted to investigate the failure mechanisms, modes, and strengths of composite single-lap joints, namely, bolted joints with and without bonds. The results demonstrated that the failure mode of all-C/C composite mechanical joints was bolt shear failure, while the failure mode of the bonded joints was cohesive force failure. In hybrid bonded/bolted joints, cohesive force failure of the adhesive layer and bolt shear failure have both been noted. The C/C composite plates of all joints were not discovered to have any evident deterioration. The loaddisplacement curve of the hybrid joints was a double-peak curve, the first peak load corresponds to bonding failure, and the second peak load corresponds to bolt failure. For the failure process, mode, and strength of hybrid (bonded/bolted) joints, a 3D progressive damage finite element model was proposed. It is based on the nonlinear finite element code ABAQUS and Hashion failure criteria. The VUMAT subroutine compiled Hashion failure criteria to simulate the damage of fiber and matrix in the composite material. Furthermore, the adhesive layer's failure was simulated using the cohesive element. Comparing failure loads and failure modes to the outcomes of experiments served to validate the model. The gradual damage evolution process and failure mechanism of bonded and hybrid bonded/bolted joints were determined, as well as the mechanism by which the cohesive layer influences the mechanical properties of the hybrid bonded/bolted joints.
