Abstract Severe urban air pollution in China is driven by a synergistic conversion of SO2, NOx, and NH3 into fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Field studies indicated NO2 as an important oxidizer to SO2 in polluted atmospheres with low photochemical reactivity, but this rapid reaction cannot be explained by the aqueous reactive nitrogen chemistry in acidic urban aerosols. Here, using an aerosol optical tweezer and Raman spectroscopy, we show that the multiphase SO2 oxidation by NO2 is accelerated for two-order-of-magnitude by a copper catalyst. This reaction occurs on aerosol surfaces, is independent of pH between 3 and 5, and produces sulfate by a rate of up to 10 µg m-3 air hr-1 when reactive copper reaches a millimolar concentration in aerosol water – typical of severe haze events in North China Plain. Since copper and NO2 are companion emitters in air pollution, they can act synergistically in converting SO2 into sulfate in China’s haze.

Abstract Background Clinical reception training plays a crucial role in developing undergraduates’ clinical thinking and competence. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical reception training conducted by standard patients (SPs) and dental simulators among undergraduate students. Materials and methods In the first week of the internship, sixty-five 5th-year undergraduate students were divided into two groups: SP group, which received traditional theoretical training along with clinical reception training, and control group that only received traditional theoretical training. After 2 weeks and 8 weeks of training, all students were assessed with real patients by experienced prosthodontists using Mini-CEX assessment score sheets. Background/Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by joint damage. However, no incidence analyses have been conducted on a Korean population since 2013. We aimed to calculate the incidence of RA and examine trends using complete Korean National Health Insurance Service claims data from 2007. Methods: We used 16 years of Korean NHIS claims data from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2017. Patients were defined as having RA when diagnosed with ICD-10 codes M05 and M06. We set the 5-year period prior to 2006 as disease-free. Results: From 2007 to 2017, the incidence rate of RA was 35 to 43 per 100,000 individuals. The female-to-male ratio was approximately 3–3.5 to 1. The sex-standardized incidence rate was highest in the 60–69 age group but gradually declined, resulting in a reversal in 2017, with the highest incidence rate observed in the 50–59 age group. The incidence of elderly onset RA (EORA) in individuals aged >60 years exhibited a decreasing trend during the study period (age 60–69, −6.45, 95% CI = −8.27 to −4.62, p < 0.001; age ≥70, −6.09, 95% CI = −7.66 to −4.53, p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study is the first to analyze the incidence trend of RA over an 11-year period. In South Korea, the incidence of RA has shown a decreasing trend since 2011; the same trend was observed in the EORA group. Young-onset RA showed the opposite trend, suggesting that RA is diagnosed earlier, due to the new RA classification criteria.

Abstract Background Deciphering the in vivo processes of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is crucial for identifying new pharmacodynamic substances and new drugs. Due to the complexity and diversity of components, investigating the exposure, metabolism, and disposition remains a major challenge in TCM research. In recent years, a number of non-targeted smart mass-spectrometry (MS) techniques, such as precise-and-thorough background-subtraction (PATBS) and metabolomics, have realized the intelligent identification of in vivo components of TCM. However, the metabolites characterization still largely relies on manual identification in combination with online databases. Results We developed a scoring approach based on the structural similarity and minimal mass defect variations between metabolites and prototypes. The current method integrates three dimensions of mass spectral data including m/z, mass defect of MS1 and MS2, and the similarity of MS2 fragments, which was sequentially analyzed by a R-based mass dataset relevance bridging (MDRB) data post-processing technique. The MDRB technology constructed a component relationship network for TCM, significantly improving metabolite identification efficiency and facilitating the mapping of translational metabolic pathways. By combining MDRB with PATBS through this non-targeted identification technology, we developed a comprehensive strategy for identification, characterization and bridging analysis of TCM metabolite in vivo. As a proof of concept, we adopted the proposed strategy to investigate the process of exposure, metabolism, and disposition of Semen Armeniacae Amarum (CKXR) in mice. Significance The currently proposed analytical approach is universally applicable and demonstrates its effectiveness in analyzing complex components of TCMs in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, it enables the correlation of in vitro and in vivo data, providing insights into the metabolic transformations among components sharing the same parent nucleus structure. Finally, the developed MDRB platform is publicly available for ( https://github.com/933ZhangDD/MDRB ) for accelerating TCM research for the scientific community. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Background The family Lauraceae is subdivided into six main lineages: Caryodaphnopsideae, Cassytheae, Cryptocaryeae, Hypodaphnideae, Laureae, and Neocinnamomeae. However, phylogenetic relationships among these lineages have been debatable due to incongruence between trees constructed using nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) sequences and chloroplast (cp) genomes. As with cp DNA, the mitochondrial (mt) DNA of most flowering plants is maternally inherited, so the phylogenetic relationships recovered with mt genomes are expected to be consistent with that from cp genomes, rather than nrDNA sequences. Results The mitogenome of Machilus yunnanensis, with a length of 735,392 bp, has a very different genome size and gene linear order from previously published magnoliid mitogenomes. Phylogenomic reconstructions based on 41 mt genes from 92 Lauraceae mitogenomes resulted in highly supported relationships: sisterhood of the Laureae and a group containing Neocinnamomeae and Caryodaphnopsideae, with Cassytheae being the next sister group, followed by Cryptocaryeae. However, we found significant incongruence among the mitochondrial, chloroplast, and nuclear phylogenies, especially for the species within the Caryodaphnopsideae and Neocinnamomeae lineages. Time-calibrated phylogenetic analyses showed that the split between Caryodaphnopsideae and Neocinnamomeae dated to the later Eocene, around 38.5 Ma, Laureae originated in the Late Cretaceous, around 84.9 Ma, Cassytheae originated in the mid-Cretaceous around 102 Ma, and Cryptocaryeae originated in the Early Cretaceous around 116 Ma. From the Late Cretaceous to the Paleocene, net diversification rates significantly increased across extant clades of major lineages, and both speciation rates and net diversification rates continued steady growth towards the present. Conclusions The topology obtained here for the first time shows that mt genes can be used to support relationships among lineages of Lauraceae. Our results highlight that both Caryodaphnopsideae and Neocinnamomeae lineages are younger than previously thought, likely first diversifying in the Eocene, and species in the other extant lineages of Lauraceae dates in a long-time span from the Early Cretaceous to the Eocene, and the climate of a period of about 90 million years was relatively warm, while the extant species of Lauraceae then continuously diversified with global cooling from the Eocene to the present day.

Ophiorrhiza liuyanii, a new species from south-western China and northern Vietnam, is described and illustrated. The new species is characterised by the glabrous surfaces on almost all plant parts, congested inflorescences and broad-ovate to ovate bracts 9–22 × 4–11 mm. It morphologically differs from the closest species, O. baviensis, mainly in most plant parts being glabrous, bracts broad-ovate to ovate, apex acute or sometimes obtuse, corollas inside with a ring of white hairs at the middle and anthers inserted near the middle in long-styled flowers. According to IUCN Categories and Criteria, O. liuyanii is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Research Findings: This study extends the understanding of the sibling effect on children's theory of mind (ToM) among Chinese preschoolers by adopting an ecological perspective. The participants were 225 Chinese preschoolers, comprising 100 children with siblings (M[subscript age] = 4.54 years, SD = 1.11, 55 boys) and 125 children without siblings (M[subscript age] = 4.52 years, SD = 0.99, 60 boys). We assessed children's ToM through a child measurement task, and peer interaction time on the weekend and parenting style (i.e. authoritarian and authoritative parenting style) through parent reports. This study revealed that the role of siblings in children's development of ToM did not have a main effect among Chinese preschoolers, regardless of their birth order or siblings' ages. However, when considering the influence of parents and peers in addition to siblings, the sibling effect is only noticeable for children with low interaction levels with their peers. Practice or Policy: In conclusion, this study demonstrates that in China, child-aged siblings positively influence the ToM development in children who have limited interactions with peers. These findings underscore the value of siblings as a developmental resource and offer parents critical insights into fostering ToM, especially under the two-child policy.

Background/Aims To compare the effects of abatacept and conventional synthetic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (csDMARDs) on the progression and development of rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). Methods This multi-center retrospective study included RA patients receiving abatacept or csDMARDs who underwent at least two pulmonary function tests and/or chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT). We compared the following outcomes between the groups: progression of RA-ILD, development of new ILD in RA patients without ILD at baseline, 28-joint Disease Activity Score with the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR), and safety. Longitudinal changes were compared between the groups by using a generalized estimating equation. Results The study included 123 patients who were treated with abatacept (n = 59) or csDMARDs (n = 64). Nineteen (32.2%) and 38 (59.4%) patients treated with abatacept and csDMARDs, respectively, presented with RA-ILD at baseline. Newly developed ILD occurred in one patient receiving triple csDMARDs for 32 months. Among patients with RA-ILD at baseline, ILD progressed in 21.1% of cases treated with abatacept and 34.2% of cases treated with csDMARDs during a median 21-month follow-up. Longitudinal changes in forced vital capacity and diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide were comparable between the two groups. However, the abatacept group showed a more significant decrease in DAS28-ESR and glucocorticoid doses than csDMARDs group during the follow-up. The safety of both regimens was comparable. Conclusions Abatacept and csDMARDs showed comparable effects on the development and stabilization of RA-ILD. Nevertheless, compared to csDMARDs, abatacept demonstrated a significant improvement in disease activity and led to reduced glucocorticoid use.

Abstract Introduction Since 2015, the Guanghua School of Stomatology has established an elective dental basic research course (EDBRC). To make all students benefit from the dental basic research course without causing excessive academic burden, the “flexible” compulsory dental basic research course (CDBRC) was settled in 2020. This study intends to introduce the “flexible” compulsory teaching module and assessment system of CDBRC, and analyze its effectiveness over 3 years. Materials and methods The grade point average (GPA), course pressure, level of basic research knowledge and skills, and students’ research achievements were collected and analyzed between EDBRC and CDBRC. The unpaired t test was used to analyze the difference. Results The “flexible” CDBRC has been successfully constructed with compulsory teaching module and hierarchical assessment system. The CDBRC has not caused significant course pressure to students compared with the EDBRC. Besides, the “flexible” CDBRC can improve the students’ GPA, basic research knowledge, and research achievements. Conclusions The “flexible” CDBRC can improve students’ academic performance and basic research abilities without causing significant course pressure, which can be conducted in dental schools with similar backgrounds. Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate the ability of infrared wavenumber of calculus to predict postoperative infection in patients with upper urinary tract calculus (UUTC), and to establish a predictive model based on this. From March 2018 to March 2023, 480 UUTC patients from Fujian Provincial Hospital were included in this study. The infrared-wavenumbers related infection score (IR-infection score) was constructed by univariate analysis, multicollinearity screening, and Lasso analysis to predict postoperative infection. Continually, the Delong test was used to compare the predictive power between the IR-infection score and traditional indicators. Afterward, we performed urine metagene sequencing and stone culture to prove the correlation between calculus toxicity and IR-infection score. Finally, logistic regression was used to build a nomogram. IR-infection score composed of four independent wavenumbers could precisely predict postoperative infection (AUCvalidation cohort = 0.707) and sepsis (AUCvalidation cohort = 0.824). IR-infection score had better predictive ability than commonly used clinical indicators. Moreover, metagenomics sequencing and calculus culture confirmed the correlation between IR-infection score and calculus toxicity (all P 0.803). Our study first developed a novel infrared spectroscopy marker and nomogram, which can help urologists better predict postoperative infection in UUTC patients.

LCL-type grid-connected inverters have been widely used in renewable power generation due to their size and cost advantages. However, the LCL filter has a problem of insufficient damping, which may lead to power system instability. Two common methods are used to address this problem: passive damping (PD) and active damping (AD). PD methods suppress resonance by adding resistors to the LCL filter, but this approach increases system losses. AD methods enhance damping through control to suppress resonance. Existing AD methods are often significantly affected by grid-side inductance perturbation, resulting in insufficient robustness. To address this issue, this article proposes a novel robust active damping (RAD) control strategy based on H∞ loop shaping. Simulation analysis and experimental research show that the RAD control method exhibits superior robustness compared with the traditional capacitor current active damping control.

Abstract Background The relationship between noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) and human diseases has been a hot topic of research, but the study of ncRNAs in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is still in its infancy. PIWI‐interacting RNA (piRNA), a small ncRNA that binds to the PIWI protein to maintain genome stability by silencing transposons, was widely studied in germ lines and stem cells. In recent years, piRNA has been shown to be involved in key events of multiple CVDs through various epigenetic modifications, revealing the potential value of piRNA as a new biomarker or therapeutic target. Conclusion This review explores origin, degradation, function, mechanism and important role of piRNA in CVDs, and the promising therapeutic targets of piRNA were summarized. This review provide a new strategy for the treatment of CVDs and lay a theoretical foundation for future research. Key points piRNA can be used as a potential therapeutic target and biomaker in CVDs. piRNA influences apoptosis, inflammation and angiogenesis by regulating epigenetic modificaions. Critical knowledge gaps remain in the unifying piRNA nomenclature and PIWI‐independent function.

Background: The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in cancer development; however, its implications in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and pan-cancer have been poorly understood. Methods: In this study, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Estimation of Stromal and Immune cells in Malignant Tumor tissue using Expression Data (ESTIMATE) datasets were applied to identify differentially expressed genes. Additionally, online public databases were utilized for in-depth bioinformatics analysis of pan-cancer datasets to investigate the prognostic implications of TME-related genes further. Results: Our study demonstrated a significant association between stromal scores, immune scores, and specific clinical characteristics in LUSC patients. C3AR1, CSF1R, CCL2, CCR1, and CD14 were identified as prognostic genes related to the TME. All TME-related prognostic genes demonstrated varying degrees of correlation with immune infiltration subtypes and tumor cell stemness. Moreover, our study revealed that TME-related prognostic genes, particularly C3AR1 and CCR1, might contribute to drug resistance in cancer cells. Conclusions: The identified TME-related prognostic genes, particularly C3AR1 and CCR1, have potential implications for understanding and targeting drug resistance mechanisms in cancer cells.

Sterol-regulatory element binding proteins (SREBPs) are a conserved transcription factor family governing lipid metabolism. When cellular cholesterol level is low, SREBP2 is transported from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus where it undergoes proteolytic activation to generate a soluble N-terminal fragment, which drives the expression of lipid biosynthetic genes. Malfunctional SREBP activation is associated with various metabolic abnormalities. In this study, we find that overexpression of the active nuclear form SREBP2 (nSREBP2) causes caspase-dependent lytic cell death in various types of cells. These cells display typical pyroptotic and necrotic signatures, including plasma membrane ballooning and release of cellular contents. However, this phenotype is independent of the gasdermin family proteins or mixed lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL). Transcriptomic analysis identifies that nSREBP2 induces expression of p73, which further activates caspases. Through whole-genome CRISPR-Cas9 screening, we find that Pannexin-1 (PANX1) acts downstream of caspases to promote membrane rupture. Caspase-3 or 7 cleaves PANX1 at the C-terminal tail and increases permeability. Inhibition of the pore-forming activity of PANX1 alleviates lytic cell death. PANX1 can mediate gasdermins and MLKL-independent cell lysis during TNF-induced or chemotherapeutic reagents (doxorubicin or cisplatin)-induced cell death. Together, this study uncovers a noncanonical function of SREBPs as a potentiator of programmed cell death and suggests that PANX1 can directly promote lytic cell death independent of gasdermins and MLKL.

Background Few studies have compared the associations between long-term exposures to particulate matters (aerodynamic diameter ≤1, ≤2.5 and ≤10 µm: PM1, PM2.5 and PM10, respectively) and asthma and asthma-related respiratory symptoms. The objective of the present study was to compare the strength of the aforementioned associations in middle-aged and elderly adults. Methods We calculated the mean 722-day personal exposure estimates of PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 at 1 km×1 km spatial resolution between 2013 and 2019 at individual levels from China High Air Pollutants (CHAP) datasets. Using logistic regression models, we presented the associations as odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals, for each interquartile range (IQR) increase in PM1/PM2.5/PM10 concentration. Asthma denoted a self-reported history of physician-diagnosed asthma or wheezing in the preceding 12 months. Results We included 7371 participants in COPD surveillance from Guangdong, China. Each IQR increase in PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 was associated with a greater odds (OR (95% CI)) of asthma (PM1: 1.22 (1.02–1.45); PM2.5: 1.24 (1.04–1.48); PM10: 1.30 (1.07–1.57)), wheeze (PM1: 1.27 (1.11–1.44); PM2.5: 1.30 (1.14–1.48); PM10: 1.34 (1.17–1.55)), persistent cough (PM1: 1.33 (1.06–1.66); PM2.5: 1.36 (1.09–1.71); PM10: 1.31 (1.02–1.68)) and dyspnoea (PM1: 2.10 (1.84–2.41); PM2.5: 2.17 (1.90–2.48); PM10: 2.29 (1.96–2.66)). Sensitivity analysis results were robust after excluding individuals with a family history of allergy. Associations of PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 with asthma and asthma-related respiratory symptoms were slightly stronger in males. Conclusion Long-term exposure to PM is associated with increased risks of asthma and asthma-related respiratory symptoms.

Important forensic diagnostic indicators of sudden death in coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, such as acute or chronic myocardial ischemic changes, sometimes make it difficult to locate the ischemic site due to the short death process, the lack of tissue reaction time. In some cases, the deceased died of sudden death on the first-episode, resulting in difficulty for medical examiners to make an accurate diagnosis. However, clinical studies on coronary instability plaque revealed the key role of coronary spasm and thrombosis caused by their lesions in sudden coronary death process. This paper mainly summarizes the pathological characteristics of unstable coronary plaque based on clinical medical research, including plaque rupture, plaque erosion and calcified nodules, as well as the influencing factors leading to plaque instability, and briefly describes the research progress and technique of the atherosclerotic plaques, in order to improve the study on the mechanism of sudden coronary death and improve the accuracy of the forensic diagnosis of sudden coronary death by diagnosing different pathologic states of coronary atherosclerotic plaques.

Abstract Due to increasingly documented health effects associated with airborne particulate matter (PM), challenges in forecasting and concern about their impact on climate change, extensive research has been conducted to improve understanding of their variability and accurately forecasting them. This study shows that atmospheric PM10 concentrations in Brunei-Muara district are influenced by meteorological conditions and they contribute to the warming of the Earth’s atmosphere. PM10 predictive forecasting models based on time and meteorological parameters are successfully developed, validated and tested for prediction by multiple linear regression (MLR), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and artificial neural network (ANN). Incorporation of the previous day’s PM10 concentration (PM10,t-1) into the models significantly improves the models’ predictive power by 57–92%. The MLR model with PM10,t-1 variable shows the greatest capability in capturing the seasonal variability of daily PM10 (RMSE = 1.549 μg/m3; R2 = 0.984). The next day’s PM10 can be forecasted more accurately by the RF model with PM10,t-1 variable (RMSE = 5.094 μg/m3; R2 = 0.822) while the next 2 and 3 days’ PM10 can be forecasted more accurately by ANN models with PM10,t-1 variable (RMSE = 5.107 μg/m3; R2 = 0.603 and RMSE = 6.657 μg/m3; R2 = 0.504, respectively).

As the complexity of air gaming scenarios continues to escalate, the demands for heightened decision-making efficiency and precision are becoming increasingly stringent. To further improve decision-making efficiency, a particle swarm optimization algorithm based on positional weights (PW-PSO) is proposed. First, important parameters, such as the aircraft in the scenario, are modeled and abstracted into a multi-objective optimization problem. Next, the problem is adapted into a single-objective optimization problem using hierarchical analysis and linear weighting. Finally, considering a problem where the convergence of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) is not enough to meet the demands of a particular scenario, the PW-PSO algorithm is proposed, introducing position weight information and optimizing the speed update strategy. To verify the effectiveness of the optimization, a 6v6 aircraft gaming simulation example is provided for comparison, and the experimental results show that the convergence speed of the optimized PW-PSO algorithm is 56.34% higher than that of the traditional PSO; therefore, the algorithm can improve the speed of decision-making while meeting the performance requirements.

AbstractContext Poziotinib and vonoprazan are two drugs mainly metabolized by CYP3A4. However, the drug-drug interaction between them is unknown.Objective To study the interaction mechanism and pharmacokinetics of poziotinib on vonoprazan.Materials and methods In vitro experiments were performed with rat liver microsomes (RLMs) and the contents of vonoprazan and its metabolite were then determined with UPLC-MS/MS after incubation of RLMs with vonoprazan and gradient concentrations of poziotinib. For the in vivo experiment, rats in the poziotinib treated group were given 5 mg/kg poziotinib by gavage once daily for 7 days, and the control group was only given 0.5% CMC-Na. On Day 8, tail venous blood was collected at different time points after the gavage administration of 10 mg/kg vonoprazan, and used for the quantification of vonoprazan and its metabolite. DAS and SPSS software were used for the pharmacokinetic and statistical analyses.Results In vitro experimental data indicated that poziotinib inhibited the metabolism of vonoprazan (IC50 = 10.6 μM) in a mixed model of noncompetitive and uncompetitive inhibition. The inhibitory constant Ki was 0.574 μM and the binding constant αKi was 2.77 μM. In vivo experiments revealed that the AUC(0-T) (15.05 vs. 90.95 μg/mL·h) and AUC(0-∞) (15.05 vs. 91.99 μg/mL·h) of vonoprazan increased significantly with poziotinib pretreatment. The MRT(0-∞) of vonoprazan increased from 2.29 to 5.51 h, while the CLz/F value decreased from 162.67 to 25.84 L/kg·h after pretreatment with poziotinib.Conclusions Poziotinib could significantly inhibit the metabolism of vonoprazan and more care may be taken when co-administered in the clinic.

Intravascular lymphoma is characterized by an exclusively intravascular distribution of tumor cells. Intravascular natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (IVNKTL) is extremely rare, highly aggressive, commonly Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)–positive, and predominantly affects the skin and central nervous system. Here we report a case of IVNKTL diagnosed in a 67-year-old female, presenting with persistent intermittent fever and skin rashes throughout the body. Incisional biopsy of an erythematous lesion on the chest exhibited aggregation of medium to large-sized atypical lymphoid cells confined to the lumen of small vessels that were positive for CD3, granzyme B, and CD56 on immunohistochemistry and EBV-encoded RNA in situ hybridization. EBV DNA was also detected in serum after diagnosis. With a review of 26 cases of IVNKTL to date, we suggest that active biopsy based on EBV DNA detection may facilitate early diagnosis of IVNKTL.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the infection risk factors for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and establish predictive models to help make personalized treatment plans. Our study was designed one-center and retrospectively enrolled 1169 benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients. Risk factors were explored for postoperative infection. A TURP-postoperative infection (TURP-PI) model with infection prediction values was created. The improved-TURP-PI (I-TURP-PI) model, including extra new factors (pathogens species), was also built to see whether it could optimize the prediction abilities. At last, we developed a nomogram for better clinical application. Background: Invisibility of subgingival scaling is the most important negative factor affecting the performance of periodontal treatment. A multisensory teaching strategy is used in the preclinical training of undergraduates in order to increase the haptic-auditory-visual feedback, aiming to overcome the invisibility and achieve minimal postoperative complications, improving patients’ treatment experience. Methods: One hundred undergraduate dental students in grade 5 were divided into a multisensory teaching strategy group (MTS: n = 50) and a conventional training pattern group (CTP: n = 50). All participants attended a lecture on using an ultrasonic subgingival scaler (USS) and Gracey curettes (GRA), followed by a 3-week training programme. Students in the MTS group were trained in a haptic/auditory-visual feedback manner, whereas students in the CTP group were trained conventionally. After the training phase, paired students in the 2 different groups performed subgingival scaling in paired patients with equivalent teeth of periodontitis using USS and GRA. Objective and subjective postoperative evaluations were recorded. Probing depth (PD) and gingival index (GI) were evaluated before and 4 weeks after scaling by the same periodontal specialist. Results: MTS significantly reduced treatment time and ameliorated postoperative complications (gingival injury, haemorrhage and root surface roughness; P < .05). Postoperative sensitivity was reduced in the MTS group from day 1 to day 7 (D1–D5: P < .001; D6: P = .002; D7: P = .003), whereas postoperative pain was reduced on day 1 (P = .006), compared with that in the CTP group. The PD reduction was not significant between the groups (MTS: 3.17 ± 0.95 mm vs CTP: 3.07 ± 0.97 mm, P > .05), whereas the GI change showed a significant difference between the groups (MTS: 1.71 ± 0.41 vs CTP: 1.67 ± 0.41, P < .05). Conclusions: Multisensory teaching strategies in the preclinical periodontal training of undergraduates can reduce postoperative complications (gingival injury, postoperative haemorrhage, and root surface roughness) and provide a better treatment experience (decreased treatment time and postoperative pain and sensitivity) for patients.

Mobile phone addiction among college students has emerged as a prevalent phenomenon in contemporary society, posing significant challenges to the development and well-being of these individuals. The assessment of the extent of mobile phone addiction has become an urgent concern in the present context. This study employed a sample of 3000 college students from a public university in Zhejiang Province, China, to gather questionnaire data. By utilizing a machine learning algorithm, we identified the most salient factors associated with college students' addiction, with perfectionism emerging as the primary influencer. Additionally, a machine learning-based prediction model for college students' cell phone addiction was developed, yielding a prediction accuracy of 76.68%. This intelligent model can serve as a reliable tool for subsequent evaluations of college students' cell phone addiction.
