The impact of Mg on the solidification structure of hypereutectic Al–Si alloys with different Si contents (15 wt% and 18 wt%) was investigated. 3%Mg was added to Al–15Si alloy to modify the phases in the solidification structure for the improvement of mechanical properties, and T6 heat treatment was used to optimize the microstructure and precipitate strengthening phase. The solidification structure was observed by OM and TEM respectively, and the precipitation behavior of each phase was detected through DSC. The results show that the addition of Mg decreased the undercooling of the alloy melt, thus suppressing the precipitation of primary Si phase. Nanoscale β” precipitates were precipitated in the matrix after T6 heat treatment. This resulted in an increase of 54% and 165% in the UTS and EL of the alloy, reaching 252 MP and 15.1%, respectively. Primary Si crystals were present in two forms in Al–18Si–8Mg alloy: spinel twin and non-twin, while Mg2Si always maintained the faceted crystals during the growing process, where only (100) and (111) crystal planes were observed. XRD, SEM and EBSD have been used to prove that Mg2Si crystals with different morphologies could become the heterogeneous nuclei of two types of primary Si crystals. The process of nucleation and growth of primary Si with Mg2Si as the heterogeneous nuclei was experimentally analyzed and theoretically predicted.

Abstract Red sandstone tests were conducted on the rock mechanics test system to clarify the strength and failure characteristics of red sandstone under triaxial loading and different unloading confining pressure rates. Strength change rules of the red sandstone in various stress spaces were analyzed. Results show that a large initial confining pressure indicates a long yield section and large axial strain. A small unloading confining pressure rate indicates a long yield section and large axial strain at failure under the identical initial confining pressure. The confining pressure reduction increases with the unloading confining pressure rate increasing when the red sandstone fails. The stress path of unloading confining pressure weakens the red sandstone cohesion and strengthens its internal friction angle. The general octahedral shear stress formula for judging whether the red sandstone fails under loading and different unloading rates was acquired on the basis of the octahedral shear stress characteristics of the red sandstone. In addition, a 3D empirical criterion for evaluating the red sandstone strength was constructed through the deviator plane function of Eekelen and the strength envelope curve on the meridian plane. A great initial confining pressure indicates serious internal damage of the red sandstone at failure under the identical unloading rate of confining pressure. A low unloading rate of confining pressure indicates internal serious damage of the red sandstone at failure when the initial confining pressure is the same. The analysis of macroscopic failure characteristics revealed that the stress path significantly influences the failure mechanism of the red sandstone. The results are instructive for determining the stability of underground engineering of the red sandstone.

Abstract Our study evaluates the limitations and potentials of Quantum Random Access Memory (QRAM) within the principles of quantum physics and relativity. QRAM is crucial for advancing quantum algorithms in fields like linear algebra and machine learning, purported to efficiently manage large data sets with $${{{\mathcal{O}}}}(\log N)$$ O ( log N ) circuit depth. However, its scalability is questioned when considering the relativistic constraints on qubits interacting locally. Utilizing relativistic quantum field theory and Lieb–Robinson bounds, we delve into the causality-based limits of QRAM. Our investigation introduces a feasible QRAM model in hybrid quantum acoustic systems, capable of supporting a significant number of logical qubits across different dimensions-up to ~107 in 1D, ~1015 to ~1020 in 2D, and ~1024 in 3D, within practical operation parameters. This analysis suggests that relativistic causality principles could universally influence quantum computing hardware, underscoring the need for innovative quantum memory solutions to navigate these foundational barriers, thereby enhancing future quantum computing endeavors in data science.

Abstract Purpose In this prospective study, the diagnosis accuracy of nanopore sequencing-based Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) detection was determined through examining bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples from pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) -suspected patients. Compared the diagnostic performance of nanopore sequencing, mycobacterial growth indicator tube (MGIT) culture and Xpert MTB/rifampin resistance (MTB/RIF) assays. Abstract Molecular doping plays an important role in controlling the carrier concentration of organic semiconductors. However, the introduction of dopant counterions often results in increased energetic disorder and traps due to the molecular packing disruption and Coulomb potential wells. To date, no general strategy has been proposed to reduce the counterion-induced structural and energetic disorder. Here, we demonstrate the critical role of non-covalent interactions (NCIs) between counterions and polymers. Employing a computer-aided approach, we identified the optimal counterions and discovered that NCIs determine their docking positions, which significantly affect the counterion-induced energetic disorder. With the optimal counterions, we successfully reduced the energetic disorder to levels even lower than that of the undoped polymer. As a result, we achieved a high n-doped electrical conductivity of over 200 S cm−1 and an eight-fold increase in the thermoelectric power factor. We found that the NCIs have substantial effects on doping efficiency, polymer backbone planarity, and Coulomb potential landscape. Our work not only provides a general strategy for identifying the most suitable counterions but also deepens our understanding of the counterion effects on doped polymeric semiconductors.

Abstract Delayed repair of fractures seriously impacts patients’ health and significantly increases financial burdens. Consequently, there is a growing clinical demand for effective fracture treatment. While current materials used for fracture repair have partially addressed bone integrity issues, they still possess limitations. These challenges include issues associated with autologous material donor sites, intricate preparation procedures for artificial biomaterials, suboptimal biocompatibility, and extended degradation cycles, all of which are detrimental to bone regeneration. Hence, there is an urgent need to design a novel material with a straightforward preparation method that can substantially enhance bone regeneration. In this context, we developed a novel nanoparticle, mPPTMP195, to enhance the bioavailability of TMP195 for fracture treatment. Our results demonstrate that mPPTMP195 effectively promotes the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts while inhibiting the differentiation of bone marrow mononuclear macrophages into osteoclasts. Moreover, in a mouse femur fracture model, mPPTMP195 nanoparticles exhibited superior therapeutic effects compared to free TMP195. Ultimately, our study highlights that mPPTMP195 accelerates fracture repair by preventing HDAC4 translocation from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, thereby activating the NRF2/HO-1 signaling pathway. In conclusion, our study not only proposes a new strategy for fracture treatment but also provides an efficient nano-delivery system for the widespread application of TMP195 in various other diseases.

Objective The study aimed to investigate the correlation and consistency between resting full-cycle ratio (RFR) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) in functional assessment of coronary arteries in a Chinese real-world cohort with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS).Design Retrospective study.Setting A single-centre study in China.Participants A total of 292 diseased vessels of 226 Chinese patients with NSTE-ACS at Cangzhou Central Hospital of Hebei Medical University from September 2021 to June 2023 were included.Methods The correlation between RFR and FFR, resting ratio of distal coronary artery pressure (Pd) to aortic pressure (Pa) and FFR were analysed by using Person correlation, and the consistency between RFR and FFR, resting Pd/Pa and FFR were assessed by Bland-Altman test. Abstract The development of semiconducting polymers with good processability in green solvents and competitive electrical performance is essential for realizing sustainable large‐scale manufacturing and commercialization of organic electronics. A major obstacle is the processability‐performance dichotomy that is dictated by the lack of ideal building blocks with balanced polarity, solubility, electronic structures, and molecular conformation. Herein, through the integration of donor, quinoid and acceptor units, an unprecedented building block, namely TQBT, is introduced for constructing a serial of conjugated polymers. The TQBT, distinct in non‐symmetric structure and high dipole moment, imparts enhanced solubility in anisole—a green solvent—to the polymer TQBT‐T. Furthermore, PTQBT‐T possess a highly rigid and planar backbone owing to the nearly coplanar geometry and quinoidal nature of TQBT, resulting in strong aggregation in solution and localized aggregates in film. Remarkably, PTQBT‐T films spuncast from anisole exhibit a hole mobility of 2.30 cm2 V‐1 s‐1, which is record high for green solvent‐processable semiconducting polymers via spin‐coating, together with commendable operational and storage stability. The hybrid building block emerges as a pioneering electroactive unit, shedding light on future design strategies in high‐performance semiconducting polymers compatible with green processing and marking a significant stride towards ecofriendly organic electronics.

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is the causative agent of pleuropneumonia, an economically important lung disease in pigs. In draft genomes of two Cypriot clinical A. pleuropneumoniae isolates (MIDG3457 and MIDG3459), we previously identified single genomic regions with homology to Mu-like bacteriophage and presented preliminary evidence of active phage. Here, updated Phastest genomic analysis identified two loci in both MIDG3457 and MIDG3459 that were predicted to encode proteins with high homology to, and whose organisation was characteristic of, Mu-like phages. Phylogenetically, the closest matches were with Mannheimia Vb and Glaesserella SuMu phages. Phastest scored the loci as “complete”, indicating they produced active phage. PCR amplification of the Mu-like phage c and tail genes from DNase-treated polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG)-precipitated supernatants of MIDG3457 and MIDG3459 (grown in either Brain Heart Infusion-NAD or Grace’s Insect Medium-NAD broth) indicated the presence of intact virions. The phages from MIDG3457 and MIDG3459 were named PluMu 3457-1, 3457-2, and PluMu 3459-1 and PluMu 3459-2, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of the PEG-precipitated supernatants of broth-grown MIDG3459 identified virions with icosahedral heads and tails, consistent with other Mu-like phages. We conclude that MIDG3459 produces an active Mu-like phage.

In the present study, in-situ TiN ceramic particles were introduced into Ti–V–Al based shape memory alloys to optimize mechanical properties and friction resistance. The results revealed that increasing the TiN content resulted in the transition from α'' to β phase, and led to a reduction in the martensitic transformation temperature. Additionally, the TiN ceramic particles were found to significantly reduced the grain size of the Ti–V–Al based shape memory alloys. Compared to other Ti–V–Al-X shape memory alloys, the introduction of TiN ceramic particles enhanced the mechanical and wear properties of the Ti–V–Al shape memory alloy. These improvements can be attributed to a combination of solid solution strengthening, grain refinement and precipitation strengthening. Notably, the (Ti–V–Al)100-xNx shape memory alloy exhibited a maximum yield strength of 568 MPa and a fracture strength of 788 MPa. Furthermore, the micro-hardness of the Ti–V–Al based shape memory alloy increased monotonously from 355HV to 393HV, while the wear coefficient steadily decreased from 0.53 to 0.48. In conclusion, by adjusting content of TiN ceramic particles, it is possible to obtain a lightweight Ti–V–Al shape memory alloy with tailored martensitic transformation temperatures, enhanced strength and hardness, as well as excellent friction properties.

Abstract Purpose Allergic rhinitis (AR) and migraine are among the most common public health problems worldwide. Observational studies on the correlation between AR and migraine have reported inconsistent results. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship of AR with migraine and its subtypes, including migraine with aura (MA) and migraine without aura (MO). Methods Bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed with publicly available summary-level statistics of large genome-wide association studies to estimate the possible causal effects. The inverse variance-weighted method was selected for primary analysis and was supplemented with the weighted median, weighted mode, and MR-Egger methods. The causal analysis using summary effect estimates (CAUSE) were further performed to verify the causality. Several sensitivity tests, including the leave-one-out, Cochran’s Q, MR-Egger intercept, and MR-PRESSO tests, were performed to assess the robustness of the results. Results AR did not exhibit a significant causal correlation with the elevated risk of any migraine (odd ratio (OR), 0.816; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.511–1.302; P = 0.394), MA (OR, 0.690; 95% CI 0.298–1.593; P = 0.384), or MO (OR, 1.022; 95% CI 0.490–2.131; P = 0.954). Consistently, reverse MR analysis did not reveal causal effects of any migraine or its subtypes on AR. Almost all sensitivity analyses supported the robustness of the results. Conclusions This MR study did not reveal a clear causal association between AR and migraine risk. More research is warranted to reveal the complex association between AR and migraine.

Abstract Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling has been implicated in the tumor malignant progression and immune escape in glioblastoma (GBM). Runt-related transcription factor 1 (RUNX1) is a vital transcriptional factor for promoting tumorigenesis and invasion in mesenchymal subtype of GBM. But the correlation between RUNX1 and ECM genes expression and regulatory mechanism of RUNX1 on ECM genes expression remain poorly understood to date. In this study, by using integral analysis of chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing and RNA sequencing, we reported that RUNX1 positively regulated the expression of various ECM-related genes, including Fibronectin 1 (FN1), Collagen type IV alpha 1 chain (COL4A1), and Lumican (LUM), in GBM. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that RUNX1 interacted with Nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) to maintain the chromatin accessibility and facilitate FOS Like 2, AP-1 Transcription Factor Subunit (FOSL2)-mediated transcriptional activation of ECM-related genes, which was independent of RUNX1’s transcriptional function. ECM remodeling driven by RUNX1 promoted immunosuppressive microenvironment in GBM. In conclusion, this study provides a novel mechanism of RUNX1 binding to NPM1 in driving the ECM remodeling and GBM progression.

Abstract Large machine learning models are revolutionary technologies of artificial intelligence whose bottlenecks include huge computational expenses, power, and time used both in the pre-training and fine-tuning process. In this work, we show that fault-tolerant quantum computing could possibly provide provably efficient resolutions for generic (stochastic) gradient descent algorithms, scaling as $${{{{{{{\mathcal{O}}}}}}}}({T}^{2}\times {{{{{{{\rm{polylog}}}}}}}}(n))$$ O ( T 2 × polylog ( n ) ) , where n is the size of the models and T is the number of iterations in the training, as long as the models are both sufficiently dissipative and sparse, with small learning rates. Based on earlier efficient quantum algorithms for dissipative differential equations, we find and prove that similar algorithms work for (stochastic) gradient descent, the primary algorithm for machine learning. In practice, we benchmark instances of large machine learning models from 7 million to 103 million parameters. We find that, in the context of sparse training, a quantum enhancement is possible at the early stage of learning after model pruning, motivating a sparse parameter download and re-upload scheme. Our work shows solidly that fault-tolerant quantum algorithms could potentially contribute to most state-of-the-art, large-scale machine-learning problems.

Background Previous observational evidence has indicated the potential involvement of the gut microbiota (GM) in the development of endometriosis. However, the causal relationship of the association remains to be investigated.Method Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data of GM was obtained from the MiBioGen consortium, and GWAS for endometriosis data was from the FinnGen consortium. Initially, a two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis was performed to identify specific bacteria associated with endometriosis. Inverse variance-weighted (IVW) was used as the main MR analysis to infer causal relationships. The other four popular MR methods including MR-Egger regression, weighted mode, weighted median, and simple mode were used for secondary confirmation. Subsequently, these selected bacteria were employed as exposure to investigate their causal effects on six sub-types of endometriosis. Furthermore, reverse MR analysis was implemented to evaluate the reverse causal effects. Cochran’s Q statistics was used to test the heterogeneity of instrumental variables (IVs); MR-Egger regression was used to test horizontal pleiotropy; MR-PRESSO and leave-one-out sensitivity analysis were applied to find significant outliers.Result A total of 1131 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were collected as IVs for 196 GM taxa with endometriosis as the outcome. We identified 12 causal relationships between endometriosis and GM taxa including 1 phylum, 3 families, 2 orders, and 6 genera (Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group, Eubacterium ruminantium group, Faecalibacterium, Peptococcus, Clostridium sensu stricto 1, and Ruminococcaceae UCG005). Utilizing the Bonferroni method, we identified phylum Cyanobacteria as the strongest associated GM taxa. Subsequently, 6 significant causal effects were uncovered between the 12 selected specific GM and 6 sub-types of endometriosis. Meanwhile, no reverse causal relationship was found. Further, no horizontal pleiotropy and no significant outliers were detected in the sensitive analysis.Conclusions This MR analysis revealed significant causal effects between GM and endometriosis and phylum Cyanobacteria had the strongest association.

Antibodies perform both neutralizing and non-neutralizing effector functions that protect against certain pathogen-induced diseases. A human antibody directed at the SARS-CoV-2 Spike N-terminal domain (NTD), DH1052, was recently shown to be non-neutralizing, yet it protected mice and cynomolgus macaques from severe disease. The mechanisms of NTD non-neutralizing antibody-mediated protection are unknown. Here we show that Fc effector functions mediate NTD non-neutralizing antibody (non-nAb) protection against SARS-CoV-2 MA10 viral challenge in mice. Though non-nAb prophylactic infusion did not suppress infectious viral titers in the lung as potently as neutralizing antibody (nAb) infusion, disease markers including gross lung discoloration were similar in nAb and non-nAb groups. Fc functional knockout substitutions abolished non-nAb protection and increased viral titers in the nAb group. Fc enhancement increased non-nAb protection relative to WT, supporting a positive association between Fc functionality and degree of protection from SARS-CoV-2 infection. For therapeutic administration of antibodies, non-nAb effector functions contributed to virus suppression and lessening of lung discoloration, but the presence of neutralization was required for optimal protection from disease. This study demonstrates that non-nAbs can utilize Fc-mediated mechanisms to lower viral load and prevent lung damage due to coronavirus infection.

Abstract Background Metabolism reprogramming plays a vital role in glioblastoma (GBM) progression and recurrence by producing enough energy for highly proliferating tumor cells. In addition, metabolic reprogramming is crucial for tumor growth and immune‐escape mechanisms. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) amplification and EGFR‐vIII mutation are often detected in GBM cells, contributing to the malignant behavior. This study aimed to investigate the functional role of the EGFR pathway on fatty acid metabolism remodeling and energy generation. Methods Clinical GBM specimens were selected for single‐cell RNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics analysis. A metabolism‐associated RTK‐fatty acid‐gene signature was constructed and verified. MK‐2206 and MK‐803 were utilized to block the RTK pathway and mevalonate pathway induced abnormal metabolism. Energy metabolism in GBM with activated EGFR pathway was monitored. The antitumor effect of Osimertinib and Atorvastatin assisted by temozolomide (TMZ) was analyzed by an intracranial tumor model in vivo. Results GBM with high EGFR expression had characteristics of lipid remodeling and maintaining high cholesterol levels, supported by the single‐cell RNA sequencing and metabolomics of clinical GBM samples. Inhibition of the EGFR/AKT and mevalonate pathways could remodel energy metabolism by repressing the tricarboxylic acid cycle and modulating ATP production. Mechanistically, the EGFR/AKT pathway upregulated the expressions of acyl‐CoA synthetase short‐chain family member 3 (ACSS3), acyl‐CoA synthetase long‐chain family member 3 (ACSL3), and long‐chain fatty acid elongation‐related gene ELOVL fatty acid elongase 2 (ELOVL2) in an NF‐κB‐dependent manner. Moreover, inhibition of the mevalonate pathway reduced the EGFR level on the cell membranes, thereby affecting the signal transduction of the EGFR/AKT pathway. Therefore, targeting the EGFR/AKT and mevalonate pathways enhanced the antitumor effect of TMZ in GBM cells and animal models. Conclusions Our findings not only uncovered the mechanism of metabolic reprogramming in EGFR‐activated GBM but also provided a combinatorial therapeutic strategy for clinical GBM management.

Abstract Background Anxiety and depression-like behaviors in allergic rhinitis (AR) are attracting attention, while the precise mechanism has not been clearly elucidated. Recent evidence shows that neuroinflammation in anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) may be the core of these neuropsychiatric symptoms in AR. Here, we investigated the molecular link between the anxiety and depression-like behaviors and neuroinflammation in ACC. Methods Mice were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA) to induce AR. Nasal inflammation levels were assessed by H&E staining and PAS staining. Anxiety and depression-like behaviors were evaluated by behavioral experiments including open field test, forced swimming test, and sucrose preference test. Neuronal impairment was characterized via Nissl staining and 18FDG-PET. The role of ten-eleven translocation 2 (TET2) in AR-related anxiety and depression was assessed by Tet2−/− mice. In addition, the murine BV2 microglial cell line was utilized to explore the molecular mechanisms by which TET2 mediates neuroinflammation. The levels of TET2, NLRP3 and their downstream molecules were detected by immunohistochemistry, Western blot, Dot blot and ELISA. The effects of metformin on depression-like behaviors in AR mice were also evaluated. Results AR mice showed significant anxiety and depression-like behaviors, which associated with the activation of ACC. Loss of TET2 activated the NLRP3/IL-1β pathway of microglia in AR mice, further accelerating the anxiety and depression-like behaviors. In addition, knockdown of TET2 activated the NLRP3/IL-1β pathway in BV2 cells. Metformin improved the neuropsychiatric symptoms of AR mice by reducing the activation of NLRP3/IL-1β pathway after upregulating TET2. Conclusion TET2 deficiency activates the NLRP3/IL-1β pathway of microglia in the ACC, promoting the pathological process of anxiety and depression-like behavior in AR. Metformin could be effective in treating neuroinflammation by regulating microglia via TET2 up-regulation, indicating that metformin is a potential way to treat anxiety and depression-like behaviors in AR.

Abstract Quantum matter interacting with gauge fields, an outstanding paradigm in modern physics, underlies the description of various physical systems. Engineering artificial gauge fields in ultracold atoms offers a highly controllable access to the exotic many-body phenomena in these systems, and has stimulated intense interest. Here we implement a triangular flux ladder in the momentum space of ultracold 133Cs atoms, and study the chiral dynamics under tunable interactions. Through measurements of the site-resolved density evolutions, we reveal how the competition between interaction and flux in the frustrated triangular geometry gives rise to flux-dependent localization and biased chiral dynamics. For the latter in particular, the symmetry between the two legs is dynamically broken, which can be attributed to frustration. We then characterize typical dynamic patterns using complementary observables. Our work opens the avenue toward exploring correlated transport in frustrated geometries, where the interplay between interactions and gauge fields plays a key role.

Abstract Background This study aimed to assess the prevalence and the gender-specific risk factors of alcohol abuse/dependence among medical undergraduates during the post-COVID‑19 pandemic period in China. Method The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Consumption (AUDIT-C) was used to identify respondents with alcohol abuse/dependence. A questionnaire on basic demographics and mental distresses (learning burnout, depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, excessive daytime sleepiness, and history of mental disorders) was used. The logistic regression model was used to explore the associations between the above characteristics and alcohol abuse/dependence. Abstract Background The interferon-induced protein known as guanylate-binding protein 2 (GBP2) has been linked to multiple different cancer types as an oncogenic gene. Although the role of GBP2 in cancer has been preliminarily explored, it is unclear how this protein interacts with tumor immunity in gastric cancer. Methods The expression, prognostic value, immune-correlations of GBP2 in gastric cancer was explored in multiple public and in-house cohorts. In addition, the pan-cancer analysis was performed to investigate the immunological role of GBP2 based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset, and the predictive value of GBP2 for immunotherapy was also examined in multiple public cohorts. Results GBP2 was highly expressed in tumor tissues and associated with poor prognosis in gastric cancer. In addition, GBP2 was associated with the immune-hot phenotype. To be more specific, GBP2 was positively related to immuno-modulators, tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs), immunotherapy biomarkers, and even well immunotherapeutic response. In addition to gastric cancer, GBP2 was expected to be an indicator of high immunogenicity in most cancer types. Importantly, GBP2 could predict the immunotherapeutic responses in at least four different cancer types, including melanoma, urothelial carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and breast cancer. Conclusions To sum up, GBP2 expression is a promising pan-cancer biomarker for estimating the immunological characteristics of tumors and may be utilized to detect immuno-hot tumors in gastric cancer.

Thrombotic diseases, emerging as a global public health hazard with high mortality and disability rates, pose a significant threat to human health and longevity. Although current antithrombotic therapies are effective in treating these conditions, they often carry a substantial risk of bleeding, highlighting the urgent need for safer therapeutic alternatives. Recent evidence has increasingly pointed to a connection between elastase activity and thrombosis. In the current study, we investigated the antithrombotic effects of ShSPI, an elastase inhibitor peptide derived from the venom of Scolopendra hainanum. Results showed that ShSPI significantly attenuated carrageenan-induced thrombosis in vivo. Furthermore, ShSPI effectively inhibited the carrageenan-induced decrease in serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and increase in prothrombin time, fibrinogen level, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activity. In addition, ShSPI reduced intracerebral thrombosis and improved functional outcomes following ischemic stroke in a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) mouse model. Collectively, these findings suggest that ShSPI is a promising candidate for the development of novel thrombotic therapies.

Background: This study investigated factors influencing discrepancies between fractional flow reserve (FFR) and resting full-cycle ratio (RFR) in the functional assessment of coronary artery stenosis in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS). Methods: We included 320 diseased vessels from 253 consecutive patients with NSTE-ACS. Vessels were categorized into four groups based on FFR ≤0.80 and RFR ≤0.89 thresholds: group 1 concordant negative (RFR–/FFR–), group 2 positive RFR and negative FFR (RFR+/FFR–), group 3 negative RFR and positive FFR (RFR–/FFR+), and group 4 concordant positive (RFR+/FFR+). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify predictors of diagnostic discrepancy between FFR and RFR. Results: Of the 320 diseased vessels, 182 (56.9%) were in group 1 (RFR–/FFR–), 33 (10.3%) in group 2 (RFR+/FFR–), 31 (9.7%) in group 3 (RFR–/FFR+), and 74 (23.1%) in group 4 (RFR+/FFR+). The concordance between FFR and RFR was 80.0%. Notably, left anterior descending artery (LAD) lesions exhibited significantly lower consistency compared to non-LAD lesions (p = 0.001), with distinct differences in FFR and RFR values between these groups (p < 0.001). The presence of a LAD lesion emerged as an independent predictor of diagnostic inconsistency between positive RFR and negative FFR measurements (p = 0.001). Conclusions: LAD involvement independently predicts diagnostic discrepancies between FFR and RFR in evaluating functional coronary artery stenosis in NSTE-ACS patients.

Er3+-doped fluorite crystals, including CaF2 and SrF2, are considered as attractive laser gain materials in the mid-infrared (MIR) region with merits of high laser efficiency as well as low doping concentration. In this work, a series of Er, La:CaF2 crystals were grown and the modulation effect of co-doping La3+ ions on the spectral properties and mid-infrared laser performance was investigated. It was found that introducing La3+ ions can effectively manipulate the coordination environment of Er3+ ions embedded in CaF2 crystal, thus modulating the shape and intensity of absorption and emission bands. On the other hand, La3+ ions can partially substitute Er3+ sites in the clusters to form mixed clusters, which affects the energy transfer processes between Er3+ ions as well as ~3 μm laser performance, which is dominated by energy transfer up-conversion (ETU) processes between Er3+ ions. By co-doping La3+ ions into Er:CaF2 crystal at an appropriate concentration, the spectral parameter modulation can be achieved while maintaining a high MIR laser efficiency.

Lymphocyte telomere length (TL) is highly variable and shortens with age. Short telomeres may impede TL-dependent T-cell clonal expansion with viral infection. As SARS-CoV-2 infection can induce prolonged and severe T-cell lymphopenia, infected adults, and particularly older adults with short telomeres, may display severe T-cell lymphopenia. To examine the relationship between T-cell TL parameters and T-cell counts, we studied 40 patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19. T-cells were isolated from lymphocytes, counted using flow cytometry, and their TL parameters were measured using the Telomere Shortest Length Assay. The cohort (median age = 62 years, 27% female) was racially and ethnically diverse (33% White, 35% Black, and 33% Other). On intensive care unit study day 1, T-cell count (mean=1.03 x109/L) was inversely related to age (p=0.007) and higher in females than males (p=0.025). Mean TL was 3.88 kilobases (kb), and 45.3% of telomeres were shorter than 3 kb. Using multiple regression analysis and adjusting for age and sex, T-cell count decreased with increased proportion of T-cell telomeres shorter than 3 kb (p=0.033) and increased with mean TL (p=0.052). Our findings suggest an association between the buildup of short telomeres within T-cells and explain in part reduced peripheral blood T-cell counts in patients with severe COVID-19. Shortened T-cell telomeres may be a risk factor for COVID-19-associated T-cell lymphopenia.

The ocean environment has enormous uncertainty due to the influence of complex waves and undercurrents. The human beings are limited in their abilities to detect and utilize marine resources without powerful tools. Soft robots employ soft materials to simplify the complex mechanical structures in rigid robots and adapt their morphology to the environment, making them suitable for performing some challenging tasks in place of manual labor. Due to superior flexible and deformable bodies, underwater soft robots have played significant roles in numerous applications in recent decades. Meanwhile, various technical challenges still need to be tackled to ensure the reliability and practical performance of underwater soft robots in complicated ocean environment. Nowadays, some researchers have developed underwater soft robotic systems based on biomimetics and other disciplines, aiming at comprehensive exploration of ocean and appropriate utilization of unexploited resources. This review presents the recent advances of underwater soft robots in the aspects of intelligent soft materials, fabrication, actuation, locomotion patterns, power storage, sensing, control, and modeling; additionally, the existing challenges and perspectives are analyzed as well.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by frequently mutating severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has had a worldwide impact. However, detailed data on the potential aerosol transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in real-world and controlled laboratory settings remain sparse. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Shanghai, China in 2022, samples were collected in a Fangcang shelter hospital, a large-scale temporary hospital rapidly built by converting the existing National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) into a health care facility. Aerosol samples at different sites and intervals around patients and in public areas, surface samples, and pharyngeal swab samples from corresponding patients were included. Samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assays, followed by sequencing if the cycle threshold (Ct) value was < 30. The positivity rate for SARS-CoV-2 in aerosol samples was high in contaminated zones (37.5%, 104/277), especially around the bed (41.2%, 68/165) and near ventilation inlets (45.2%, 14/31). The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 around the bed, public areas, and air inlets of exhaust vents fluctuated and was closely related to the positivity rate among patients at corresponding sampling sites. Some surface samples of different personal protective equipment from medical staff had high positivity rates. Sixty sequences of joined ORF1ab and spike genes obtained from sixty samples represented two main clusters of Omicron SARS-CoV-2. There was consistency in virus sequences from the same patient and their environment, and the detected virus sequences matched those of virus strains in circulation during the collection periods, which indicated a high likelihood of cross-contamination in the Fangcang shelter hospital. In summary, the results provide a quantitative and real landscape of the aerosol transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and a patient-centered view of contamination in large and enclosed spaces and offer a useful guide for taking targeted measures to avoid nosocomial infections during the management of SARS-CoV-2 or other respiratory virus diseases in a Fangcang shelter hospital.

Abstract Purpose This study aimed to assess the value of an HPV E6/E7 mRNA assay and HPV 16 18/45 genotype assay combined with age stratification for triaging women negative for intraepithelial lesions or malignancy (NILM) cytology. Methods From January 2017 to December 2021, a total of 162,309 eligible women underwent cervical cancer screening at the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University, China. Excluding those with negative HPV E6/E7 mRNA, abnormal and unsatisfactory cytology, and those who failed to undergo colposcopy, 6,845 women were ultimately included in our study. We analysed the triage guidance for different subtypes of HPV in the presence of NILM cytology. Results Among 162,309 women, 19,834 (12.2%) were positive for HPV E6/E7 mRNA. Of the 6,845 women included in the study, 1,941 (28.4%), 561 (8.2%), 55 (0.8%) and 4,288 (62.6%) tested positive for HPV 16, HPV 18/45, HPV16/18/45 or other HR-HPV genotypes, respectively. The proportions of LSIL+ (including LSIL, HSIL and ICC) and HSIL+ (including HSIL and ICC) pathological results in the HPV 16/18/45 + group were 57% and 34.1%, respectively, higher than 36.3% and 11% in the other HR-HPV + group (χ2 = 653.214, P 0.05). The above results were consistent after stratification according to age. Conclusion The rate of histopathological abnormalities was still high for the other HR-HPV subtypes with NILM cytology, although the rate of histopathological abnormalities was much higher for the HPV 16/18/45 positive subtypes. Therefore, colposcopy should be performed in women with HPV E6/E7 mRNA positivity and NILM cytology, regardless of age and HPV genotype.

Abstract Identifying the primary site of metastatic cancer is critical to guiding the subsequent treatment. Approximately 3–9% of metastatic patients are diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary sites (CUP) even after a comprehensive diagnostic workup. However, a widely accepted molecular test is still not available. Here, we report a method that applies formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues to construct reduced representation bisulfite sequencing libraries (FFPE-RRBS). We then generate and systematically evaluate 28 molecular classifiers, built on four DNA methylation scoring methods and seven machine learning approaches, using the RRBS library dataset of 498 fresh-frozen tumor tissues from primary cancer patients. Among these classifiers, the beta value-based linear support vector (BELIVE) performs the best, achieving overall accuracies of 81-93% for identifying the primary sites in 215 metastatic patients using top-k predictions (k = 1, 2, 3). Coincidentally, BELIVE also successfully predicts the tissue of origin in 81-93% of CUP patients (n = 68).

Abstract Objective To investigate the infection status of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) E6/E7 mRNA in patients with a cytological diagnosis of “atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance” (ASCUS) and to analyze the pathogenic rate of different high-risk HPV subtypes combined with biopsy pathological results to provide a more accurate basis for managing ASCUS patients. Methods A total of 1387 patients with ASCUS and HPV E6/E7 mRNA positivity who were referred for colposcopy were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into HPV16+, 18/45 + and other HR-HPV + groups premenopausal and postmenopausal groups. The pathological results of the biopsy were divided into the LSIL- group (including normal and low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions) and the HSIL + group (including high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions and higher lesions). SPSS was used for the analysis. Results The age group 31–40 years had the highest level of HPV16+, and HPV18/45 + was the highest in the 41–50 years group. The detection rates of HSIL + in the HPV16+, HPV18/45+, HPV 16/18/45 + and Other HR-HPV + groups were 48.4%, 18.8%, 43.9% and 15.0%, respectively. The infection rates of HPV16/18/45 in postmenopausal and premenopausal women were 42.4% and 34.3%, respectively. Aims: To explore the novel molecular mechanisms of histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) in chondrocytes via RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis. Methods: Empty adenovirus (EP) and a HDAC4 overexpression adenovirus were transfected into cultured human chondrocytes. The cell survival rate was examined by real-time cell analysis (RTCA) and EdU and flow cytometry assays. Cell biofunction was detected by Western blotting. The expression profiles of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in the EP and HDAC4 transfection groups were assessed using whole-transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq). Volcano plot, Gene Ontology, and pathway analyses were performed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). For verification of the results, the A289E/S246/467/632 A sites of HDAC4 were mutated to enhance the function of HDAC4 by increasing HDAC4 expression in the nucleus. RNA-seq was performed to identify the molecular mechanism of HDAC4 in chondrocytes. Finally, the top ten DEGs associated with ribosomes were verified by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (QPCR) in chondrocytes, and the top gene was verified both in vitro and in vivo. Results: HDAC4 markedly improved the survival rate and biofunction of chondrocytes. RNA-seq analysis of the EP and HDAC4 groups showed that HDAC4 induced 2,668 significant gene expression changes in chondrocytes (1,483 genes upregulated and 1,185 genes downregulated, p < 0.05), and ribosomes exhibited especially large increases. The results were confirmed by RNA-seq of the EP versus mutated HDAC4 groups and the validations in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: The enhanced ribosome pathway plays a key role in the mechanism by which HDAC4 improves the survival rate and biofunction of chondrocytes. The straightness control of a fully mechanized working face is the key technology used in intelligent coal mining, so the position control of a hydraulic support multi-cylinder moving system is of great significance. However, due to the harsh environment of coal mines, complex friction, external disturbances, and the coupling relationship between adjacent cylinders, the accuracy of position control is restricted. Therefore, an output cooperative controller is proposed in this paper for a multi-cylinder system. A high-order sliding mode observer is utilized to estimate the system states with the only available output position signal. A neural network disturbance observer is applied to estimate the lump disturbance of the strict-feedback model, including the system uncertainty, disturbance force and the coupling force between adjacent cylinders. Then, continuous motion position tracking simulation is conducted and the estimation performance of the state observer and neural network is analyzed. Furthermore, a multi-cylinder collaborative control test rig is designed, and experiments based on the actual actions of the hydraulic support are conducted. The results show that the proposed output cooperative controller has an excellent position control performance compared with the traditional proportional–integral controller.

Objective: Epidermal growth factor receptor variant III (EGFRvIII) is a constitutively-activated mutation of EGFR that contributes to the malignant progression of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Temozolomide (TMZ) is a standard chemotherapeutic for GBM, but TMZ treatment benefits are compromised by chemoresistance. This study aimed to elucidate the crucial mechanisms leading to EGFRvIII and TMZ resistance. Methods: CRISPR-Cas13a single-cell RNA-seq was performed to thoroughly mine EGFRvIII function in GBM. Western blot, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence were used to determine the chemoresistance role of E2F1 and RAD51-associated protein 1 (RAD51AP1). Results: Bioinformatic analysis identified E2F1 as the key transcription factor in EGFRvIII-positive living cells. Bulk RNA-seq analysis revealed that E2F1 is a crucial transcription factor under TMZ treatment. Western blot suggested enhanced expression of E2F1 in EGFRvIII-positive and TMZ-treated glioma cells. Knockdown of E2F1 increased sensitivity to TMZ. Venn diagram profiling showed that RAD51AP1 is positively correlated with E2F1, mediates TMZ resistance, and has a potential E2F1 binding site on the promoter. Knockdown of RAD51AP1 enhanced the sensitivity of TMZ; however, overexpression of RAD51AP1 was not sufficient to cause chemotherapy resistance in glioma cells. Furthermore, RAD51AP1 did not impact TMZ sensitivity in GBM cells with high O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) expression. The level of RAD51AP1 expression correlated with the survival rate in MGMT-methylated, but not MGMT-unmethylated TMZ-treated GBM patients. Conclusions: Our results suggest that E2F1 is a key transcription factor in EGFRvIII-positive glioma cells and quickly responds to TMZ treatment. RAD51AP1 was shown to be upregulated by E2F1 for DNA double strand break repair. Targeting RAD51AP1 could facilitate achieving an ideal therapeutic effect in MGMT-methylated GBM cells.

Malignant gliomas are known to be one of the most difficult diseases to diagnose and treat because of the infiltrative growth pattern, rapid progression, and poor prognosis. Many antitumor drugs are not ideal for the treatment of gliomas due to the blood-brain barrier. Temozolomide (TMZ) is a DNA alkylating agent that can cross the blood-brain barrier. As the only first-line chemotherapeutic drug for malignant gliomas at present, TMZ is widely utilized to provide a survival benefit; however, some patients are inherently insensitive to TMZ. In addition, patients could develop acquired resistance during TMZ treatment, which limits antitumor efficacy. To clarify the mechanism underlying TMZ resistance, numerous studies have provided multilevel solutions, such as improving the effective concentration of TMZ in tumors and developing novel small molecule drugs. This review discusses the in-depth mechanisms underlying TMZ drug resistance, thus aiming to provide possibilities for the establishment of personalized therapeutic strategies against malignant gliomas and the accelerated development and transformation of new targeted drugs.

Abstract Malignant tumors pose a serious threat to human health. The development of malignant tumors is characterized by uncontrolled cell division and immune evasion. The micro‐ribonucleic acid‐34a (miR‐34a) is a small noncoding single‐stranded ribonucleic acid that is ubiquitously present in normal human tissues. However, it has been confirmed to be dysregulated in a variety of tumor cells. Numerous research have revealed the importance of miR‐34a in the treatment of various malignancies. MiR‐34a deletion can hasten the growth of tumors whereas miR‐34a overexpression suppresses the proliferation, invasion, and migration of cancer cells. Moreover, more recent studies have highlighted its role in immunity and investigated its applicability to particular tumors. Through various immune cells, factors, and other mechanisms, miR‐34a can inhibit tumor carcinogenesis. In view of the important role of miR‐34a in tumors, this research reviewed the aspects of miR‐34a regulation of tumor immune microenvironment to exert anti‐tumor effects in order to clarify the potential immunotherapy value of miR‐34a in tumors.

AbstractBackground Workplace violence in healthcare settings is a significant public concern that profoundly impacts healthcare workers. However, there is a dearth of knowledge regarding the prevalence of workplace violence and its correlation with suicidal ideation among undergraduate medical students in China during their clinical training. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of workplace violence inflicted by patients or their family members/visitors and to assess its association with suicidal ideation among undergraduate medical students.Method The snowballing sampling technique was used to recruit Chinese medical students. A question designed by the research team was used to ask medical students about their encounters with workplace violence. Students’ basic demographic information and mental distresses (learning burnout, depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, alcohol abuse/dependence, excessive daytime sleepiness and history of mental disorders) were also assessed. As appropriate, the data were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, independent-sample t-tests and multiple logistic regression.Results Out of the 1402 undergraduate medical students who participated, 493 (35.2%) reported having experienced workplace violence inflicted by patients or their family members/visitors, of which 394 (28.1%) were verbal abuse, 14 (1.0%) were physical aggression, and 85 (6.1%) were suffered from both verbal abuse and physical aggression. Furthermore, students exposed to workplace violence were more likely to report suicidal ideation and had a higher prevalence of learning burnout, depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, alcohol abuse/dependence and excessive daytime sleepiness. Depression symptoms, history of mental disorders, learning burnout and having a partner were significantly associated with suicidal ideation in this population.Conclusion The prevalence of workplace violence inflicted by patients or their family members/visitors was high among undergraduate medical students in China. This may be associated with their mental distress and suicidal ideation. Consequently, it is crucial to strengthen workplace safety measures and promptly implement interventions to mitigate the potentially serious consequences.

Magnetic refrigeration (MR) based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is a promising alternative to conventional vapor compression refrigeration techniques. The cooling efficiency of a magnetic refrigerator depends on its refrigeration capacity and operation frequency. Existing refrigerators possess limited cooling efficiency due to the low operating frequency (around tens of Hz). Theory predicts that reducing geometrical effects can increase the operation frequency by reducing the relaxation time of a magnetic material. As compared to other shapes, magnetocaloric wires transfer heat most effectively to a surrounding environment, due to their enhanced surface area. The wire shape also yields a good mechanical response, reducing the relaxation time and consequently increasing the operation frequency of the cooling device. Experiments have validated the theoretical predictions. By assembling microwires with different magnetocaloric properties and Curie temperatures into a laminate structure, a table- like magnetocaloric bed can be created and used as an active cooling device for micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and nano-electro-mechanical system (NEMS). This paper assesses recent progress in the development of magnetocaloric microwires and sheds light on the important factors affecting the magnetocaloric behavior and cooling efficiency in microwire systems. Challenges, opportunities, and strategies regarding the development of advanced magnetocaloric microwires are also discussed.

Abstract Aberrant expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs) has been reported to play an important biological regulatory role in gastric cancer (GC). For the purpose of silencing cancer‐related genes, a new approach for cancer treatment using nanocarriers to deliver siRNA has been proposed. In this study, abundantly expressed circMAP2K2 (hsa_circRNA_102415) is identified in GC cells. CircMAP2K2 regulates the PCBP1/GPX1 axis through proteasome‐mediated degradation, which further mediates the activation of the AKT/GSK3β/epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) signaling pathway and enhances the proliferation and metastatic ability of GC cells. To establish novel GC treatment, epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate‐lysozyme (EGCG‐LYS) fibrils are synthesized, and in vitro experiments demonstrate that EGCG‐LYS has a higher siRNA delivery efficiency than Lipofectamine 2000 (lipo2000), which effectively silences the expression of circMAP2K2. Further studies show that EGCG‐LYS carrying siRNA can successfully achieve lysosome escape, which allows it to be located in the cytoplasm to achieve post‐transcriptional gene silencing. In addition, EGCG‐LYS carrying si‐circMAP2K2 has good circulating stability, excellent biosafety and antitumor ability in vivo. The EGCG‐LYS fibrils delivery system provides a new tool and approach for the treatment of GC.

Introduction: Three different shapes of gold nanoparticles were synthesized in this experiment. At the same time, studies compared their effects with human serum albumin (HSA).Methods: Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with three different morphologies, such as, nanospheres (AuNSs), nanorods (AuNRs), and nanoflowers (AuNFs) were synthesized via a seeding method and their characteristic absorption peaks were detected using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy, Telectron microscopy (TEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Zeta potential measurements, circular dichroism (CD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to study the interactions between them and HSA. By comparing the thermodynamic parameters and quenching mechanism of the three materials, similarities and differences were determined in their interactions with HSA.Results: The results showed that with an increase in the concentration of the AuNPs with the three different morphologies, the UV-vis absorption peak intensity of the mixed solution increased, but its fluorescence intensity was quenched. This indicates that the three types of AuNPs interact with HSA, and that the interactions between them represent a static quenching process, which is consistent with the conclusions derived from three-dimensional fluorescence experiments. Through variable-temperature fluorescence experiments, the binding constants, number of binding sites, and thermodynamic parameters of the interactions between the three types of AuNPs and HSA were determined. In this work, suitable band gap width, strong photo-response to visible light, and a high photogenerated carrier density offered by an important member of layered sulfides, SnS2, were kept in view for designing and producing a highly effective photocatalyst for CO2 reduction. Hence, SnS2/CeO2 heterojunction composite photocatalysts were triumphally fabricated by a facile in situ hydrothermal synthesis method, combining advantages of the built-in electric field and oxygen vacancies of two materials. Various characterization techniques were exploited to scrutinize the photocatalyst’s structure and confirm that the carrier transport efficiency and photocatalytic performance are enhanced by the synergistic impact of the heterojunction structure and presence of oxygen vacancies. Owing to the successful loading of zero-dimensional CeO2 nanoparticles onto two-dimensional SnS2 nanosheets, the 2D/0D structure improves the photo-response range of the composites and provides faster electron transfer rates. The composite material maintained the hydrophobic characteristic of single SnS2, while inhibiting the hydrophilic property of single CeO2. As a result, CO and CH4 yields of prepared binary Z-type heterojunction photocatalysts are 24.6 and 4.4 folds higher than those of single SnS2, respectively. This innovative study will contribute to exploration of SnS2-based photocatalytic materials and provide a new feasible direction for light energy-driven CO2 reduction.

With the temperature and pressure effect, the composition change and oxygen consumption law of light crude oil and discoxidation air in Tahei North Block were studied. The static oxidation experiment of crude oil was carried out in a high temperature and high pressure reactor indoors to systematically study the oxidation effect of crude oil by disoxidation air with different oxygen content and different gas injection volume; the hydrocarbon was analyzed by chromatographic analysis, and the reaction gas was collected for gas analysis. The results showed that: ① The low-temperature oxidation reaction between crude oil sample and disoxidation air decreased the components above C21 and increased the content of light components below C13; ② The oxidation effect of crude oil increased with the increase of oxygen content, and the components in the reaction process corresponded to the "inflection point" in the front; ③ When the oxygen content was constant, the "inflection point" corresponding to the reaction remained unchanged by changing the oil-gas ratio; In the overall reaction process, the oxygen content decreased and then tended to be flat; ④ CO2 was generated in the process of low-temperature oxidation, and the CO2 content tended to be flat after increasing; ⑤At reservoir temperature (160℃), crude oil mainly involves two reaction thermal cracking and oxygenation reactions. The thermal cracking reaction is not related to the oxygen content, but to the temperature. The main reaction temperature is 160-200℃. Heavy components such as high-carbon asphaltene will be decomposed into saturated hydrocarbons. The oxygenation reaction is mainly aromatic hydrocarbon, and the resin oxygenation reaction will also produce asphaltene. When the two reactions exist at the same time, the content of asphaltene participating in thermal cracking is greater than the quality of asphaltene generated by oxygenation reaction aromatic hydrocarbon, which will lead to the decrease of asphaltene content.

Abstract The Feynman-Tan relation, obtained by combining the Feynman energy relation with the Tan’s two-body contact, can explain the excitation spectra of strongly interacting 39K Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). Since the shift of excitation resonance in the Feynman-Tan relation is inversely proportional to atomic mass, the test of whether this relation is universal for other atomic systems is significant for describing the effect of interaction in strongly correlated Bose gases. Here we measure the high-momentum excitation spectra of 133Cs BEC with widely tunable interactions by using the second- and third-order Bragg spectra. We observe the backbending of frequency shift of excitation resonance with increasing interaction, and even the shift changes its sign under the strong interactions in the high-order Bragg spectra. Our finding shows good agreement with the prediction based on the Feynman-Tan relation. Our results provide significant insights for understanding the profound properties of strongly interacting Bose gases.

Abstract In holographic duality, boundary states that have semiclassical bulk duals must obey inequalities, which bound their subsystems’ von Neumann entropies. Hitherto known inequalities constrain entropies of reduced states on up to N = 5 disjoint subsystems. Here we report one new such inequality, which involves N = 7 disjoint regions. Our work supports a recent conjecture on the structure of holographic inequalities, which predicted the existence and schematic form of the new inequality. We explain the logic and educated guesses by which we arrived at the inequality, and comment on the feasibility of employing similar tactics in a more exhaustive search.

To meet the environmental protection and flame retardancy requirements for epoxy resins (EPs) in certain fields, in this study, a novel triazine-ring-containing DOPO-derived compound (VDPD), derived from vanillin, 2,4-Diamino-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine, and 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO), was synthesized using a one-pot method. Flame-retardant epoxy resin (FREP) was prepared by adding various ratios of VDPD to EP and curing with 4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM). The curing behavior, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and flame-retardant properties of the FREP were examined in various tests. According to the results, when the amount of VDPD added to the EP increased, the glass transition temperature of the FREP decreased linearly, and the flame-retardant properties gradually improved. With a 0.4 wt.% P content, the vertical burning rating of EP/DDM/VDPD-0.4 (according to the theoretical content of VDPD) reached the V-0 level, and the LOI value reached 33.1%. In addition, the results of a CCT showed that the peak heat release rate (PHRR) of EP/DDM/VDPD-0.4 decreased by 32% in comparison with that of the EP. Furthermore, compared with those of the EP, the tensile strength of EP/DDM/VDPD-0.4 decreased from 80.2 MPa to 74.3 MPa, only decreasing by 6 MPa, and the tensile modulus increased. Overall, VDPD can maintain the mechanical properties of EP and effectively improve its flame-retardant properties.

Thermally conductive and flame-retardant polyolefin composites are facing great challenges in meeting the increasing demands for fire safety and thermal management. Aiming at simultaneously enhancing thermal conductivity and flame retardancy, hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and magnesium hydroxide (MH) were adopted in ethylene–vinyl acetate copolymer/polyolefin elastomer (EVA/POE) blends to design composites with selective filler distributions and co-continuous networks via different processing schemes. The thermal conductivity and flame retardancy show strong dependence on the distributed structure of hBN and MH. The composites with hBN-rich centers and MH-rich edges in the filled POE phase show a thermal conductivity of 0.70 W/(m·K) and an LOI of 27.7%, which are very close to the thermal conductivity of EVA/POE/hBN and the LOI of EVA/POE/MH at the same total filler content. The composites with MH-rich centers and hBN-rich edges show pHRR, THR and TSP values of 169 kW/m2, 49.8 MJ/m2 and 1.8 m2, which are decreased by 40%, 33% and 62% in comparison with EVA/POE/MH, respectively. Modulating the filler structure distribution provides a strategy to co-enhance thermal conductivity and flame retardancy.

Prostate cancer (PCa) remains a common cancer with high mortality in men due to its heterogeneity and the emergence of drug resistance. A critical factor contributing to its lethality is the presence of prostate cancer stem cells (PCSCs), which can self-renew, long-term propagate tumors, and mediate treatment resistance. MicroRNA-34a (miR-34a) has shown promise as an anti-PCSC therapeutic by targeting critical molecules involved in cancer stem cell (CSC) survival and functions. Despite extensive efforts, the development of miR-34a therapeutics still faces challenges, including non-specific delivery and delivery-associated toxicity. One emerging delivery approach is ligand-mediated conjugation, aiming to achieve specific delivery of miR-34a to cancer cells, thereby enhancing efficacy while minimizing toxicity. Folate-conjugated miR-34a (folate–miR-34a) has demonstrated promising anti-tumor efficacy in breast and lung cancers by targeting folate receptor α (FOLR1). Here, we first show that miR-34a, a TP53 transcriptional target, is reduced in PCa that harbors TP53 loss or mutations and that miR-34a mimic, when transfected into PCa cells, downregulated multiple miR-34a targets and inhibited cell growth. When exploring the therapeutic potential of folate–miR-34a, we found that folate–miR-34a exhibited impressive inhibitory effects on breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer cells but showed minimal effects on and targeted delivery to PCa cells due to a lack of appreciable expression of FOLR1 in PCa cells. Folate–miR-34a also did not display any apparent effect on PCa cells expressing prostate-specific membrane antigen (PMSA) despite the reported folate’s binding capability to PSMA. These results highlight challenges in the specific delivery of folate–miR-34a to PCa due to a lack of target (receptor) expression. Our study offers novel insights into the challenges and promises within the field and casts light on the development of ligand-conjugated miR-34a therapeutics for PCa.

The effect of interparticle interactions on topological properties is difficult to experimentally probe and quantitatively characterize. For ultracold atomic systems, although topological phases and phenomena have been recently observed in various settings, the effect of atomic interactions has so far remained largely unexplored. Here, we realize a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model in the momentum lattice of a Bose-Einstein condensate with tunable atomic interactions and measure the bulk dynamics of atoms in a synthetic topological wire subjected to sudden quench under various interactions. We observe the breakdown of chiral dynamics in the atomic wire with increasing strength of interaction, where the atoms are localized at the initial injection site under the strong interaction. We show that the mean chiral displacement can be used to characterize the effect of interaction on the atomic chiral dynamics by studying its variation with the interaction. Our results provide a benchmark for exploring the interacting topological fluids.

CX3CL1 secreted in the tumor microenvironment serves as a chemoattractant playing a critical role in metastasis of CX3CR1 expressing cancer cells. CX3CR1 can be expressed in both cancer and immune-inhibitory myeloid cells to facilitate their migration. We generated a novel monoclonal antibody against mouse CX3CR1 that binds to CX3CR1 and blocks the CX3CL1-CX3CR1 interaction. We next explored the immune evasion strategies implemented by the CX3CL1-CX3CR1 axis and find that it initiates a resistance program in cancer cells that results in 1) facilitation of tumor cell migration, 2) secretion of soluble mediators to generate a pro-metastatic niche, 3) secretion of soluble mediators to attract myeloid populations, and 4) generation of tumor-inflammasome. The CX3CR1 monoclonal antibody reduces migration of tumor cells and decreases secretion of immune suppressive soluble mediators by tumor cells. In combination with anti-PD-1 immunotherapy, this CX3CR1 monoclonal antibody enhances survival in an immunocompetent mouse colon carcinoma model through a decrease in tumor-promoting myeloid populations. Thus, this axis is involved in the mechanisms of resistance to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy and the combination therapy can overcome a portion of the resistance mechanisms to anti-PD-1.

Abstract Polymer semiconductors (PSCs) are essential active materials in mechanically stretchable electronic devices. However, many exhibit low fracture strain due to their rigid chain conformation and the presence of large crystalline domains. Here, a PSC/elastomer blend, poly[((2,6‐bis(thiophen‐2‐yl)‐3,7‐bis(9‐octylnonadecyl)thieno[3,2‐b]thieno[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3‐d]thiophene)‐5,5′‐diyl)(2,5‐bis(8‐octyloctadecyl)‐3,6‐di(thiophen‐2‐yl)pyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐1,4‐dione)‐5,5′‐diyl]] (P2TDPP2TFT4) and polystyrene‐block‐poly(ethylene‐ran‐butylene)‐block‐polystyrene (SEBS) are systematically investigated. Specifically, the effects of molecular weight of both SEBS and P2TDPP2TFT4 on the resulting blend morphology, mechanical, and electrical properties are explored. In addition to commonly used techniques, atomic force microscopy‐based nanomechanical images are used to provide additional insights into the blend film morphology. Opposing trends in SEBS‐induced aggregation are observed for the different P2TDPP2TFT4 molecular weights upon increasing the SEBS molecular weight from 87 to 276 kDa. Furthermore, these trends are seen in device performance trends for both molecular weights of P2TDPP2TFT4. SEBS molecular weight also has a substantial influence on the mesoscale phase separation. Strain at fracture increases dramatically upon blending, reaching a maximum value of 640% ± 20% in the blended films measured with film‐on‐water method. These results highlight the importance of molecular weight for electronic devices. In addition, this study provides valuable insights into appropriate polymer selections for stretchable semiconducting thin films that simultaneously possess excellent mechanical and electrical properties.

Amino acid (AA) was used as a green grafting agent to functionalize polyepoxysuccinic acid (PESA), and three AA-modified PESA (AA-PESA) CaCO3 scale inhibitors were obtained to change the structural singleness of PESA and further improve its comprehensive properties. The structures of AA-PESA were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen (1HNMR) spectroscopy. The molecular weights of AA-PESA were analyzed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The synthesis technology of AA-PESA was optimized by single-factor and orthogonal experiments. The CaCO3 scale inhibition performance of AA-PESA was studied by the static scale-inhibition method, and the scale inhibition mechanism was analyzed. Results showed that AA-PESAs had the same synthesis process: n(PESA):n(AA) = 1:0.625, reaction temperature of 95 °C, and reaction time of 2 h.
