Multiomics research is a transformative approach in the biological sciences that integrates data from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and other omics technologies to provide a comprehensive understanding of biological systems. This review elucidates the fundamental principles of multiomics, emphasizing the necessity of data integration to uncover the complex interactions and regulatory mechanisms underlying various biological processes. We explore the latest advances in computational methodologies, including deep learning, graph neural networks (GNNs), and generative adversarial networks (GANs), which facilitate the effective synthesis and interpretation of multiomics data. Additionally, this review addresses the critical challenges in this field, such as data heterogeneity, scalability, and the need for robust, interpretable models. We highlight the potential of large language models to enhance multiomics analysis through automated feature extraction, natural language generation, and knowledge integration. Despite the important promise of multiomics, the review acknowledges the substantial computational resources required and the complexity of model tuning, underscoring the need for ongoing innovation and collaboration in the field. This comprehensive analysis aims to guide researchers in navigating the principles and challenges of multiomics research to foster advances in integrative biological analysis.

Bauhinia is a widely planted urban tree plant in tropical cities, which are frequently dwelling in a habitat exposed to inevitable streetlamp lighting. It is of practical meaning to figure out the lighting spectra that benefit nutrient utilization in corporation with a proper exponential fertilization regime. In this study, Bauhinia brachycarpa and B. variegata seedlings were cultured with exponential fertilization at the rate of 80 mg nitrogen (N) plant-1 (N-phosphorus-potassium, 10-7-9) with an unfertilized control, and both were exposed to light-emitting diode spectra of R1BG5 (13.9% red, 77.0% green, 9.2% blue), R2BG3 (26.2% red, 70.2% green, 3.5% blue), and R3BG1 (42.3% red, 57.3% green, 0.4% blue). The R3BG1 spectrum resulted in smaller growing size and dry mass but higher nutrient concentration and root water content compared to the other two spectra. Exponential fertilization increased fresh mass for two Bauhinia species but only increased dry mass in B. brachycarpa. Compared to B. variegata, B. brachycarpa was verified to have a higher capacity to accommodate exogeneous nutrient input through exponential fertilization. The R3BG1 spectrum was recommended for the illumination in streetlamps for Bauhinia because this spectrum can promote nutrient uptake without too fast rate of growth relative to other spectra with lower red-light proportions.

Demand for products made from the dry mass of Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) is growing, but harvest is limited by fungal disease infection when ginseng is replanted in the same field. Rotated cropping with maize can cope with the replant limit, but it may take decades. We aimed to amend post-maize-cropping farmland soils for cultivating Asian ginseng, using effective microorganisms EMs and fulvic acid (FA) additives and detecting and comparing their effects on soil microbial diversity and physiochemical properties. Amendments promoted seedling survival and depressed disease-infection. Both EMs and FA increased the relative abundances of Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium, Duganella, and Massilia spp., but, decreased the relative abundances of Fusarium and Sistotrema. In addition, soil nutrient availability and properties that benefitted nutrient availabilities were promoted. In conclusion, amendments with EMs and FA improved the fertility of farmland soils, and the quality of Asian ginseng, and revealed the relationship between soil microbial diversity and physiochemical properties.

In order to evaluate the effect of growing media with peat and spent mushroom residue (SMR) on medicinal plants, we cultured Gossypium herbaceum and Talinum paniculatum seedlings in the substrates with SMR in proportions of 0% (control), 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Results showed that G. herbaceum seedlings can survive in all treatments, but T. paniculatum seedlings died out in 75% and 100% SMR substrates where higher electrical conductance was found (2.3-2.7 dS m-1). Both growth and biomass mostly declined with the increase of SMR proportion in the growing media for the two species except for root biomass in T. paniculatum seedlings between the control and the 25% SMR treatment. Shoot nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations and contents tended to be higher in low- and high-SMR-proportional substrates, respectively. N and P statuses were both diagnosed to be excessive than needed for the two species. Overall, it was not recommended to culture G. herbaceum seedlings in the substrates with SMR; instead T. paniculatum seedlings can be cultured in the growing media with SMR in volumetric proportion of 25%.

A facile and low-cost layer-by-layer technology has been developed to synthesize a multi-functional Au/CdS/Fe3O4/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) hybrid nanomaterial. The RGO nanosheets are indispensable, as they act not only as a supporter to hold the multiple components together, but also as an electron acceptor and transporter to efficiently hinder the recombination of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. A facile, low-cost and green ultrasound-assisted method was developed to ultra-fast synthesize Mn3O4 nanosheets supported on reduced graphene oxide (RGO). Such hybrid materials exhibited ultrahigh performance as lithium ion battery (LIB) anodes, whose specific capacity reached more than 1400 mA h g-1 after 40 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g-1 (based on the mass of Mn3O4). This study examines the impact of Internet Banking on banking profitability in Saudi Arabia in a sample of conventional and Islamic banks. The study uses Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) as key metrics to measure profitability in a sample of 10 Saudi conventional and Islamic banks observed over the 2013–2022 period. The used regression analysis reveals a significant effect of Internet Banking on the profitability of both conventional and Islamic banks, as indicated by the ROA and ROE metrics. These findings have implications that underscore the strategic importance of adopting Internet Banking, emphasizing its substantial contribution to the financial performance of both conventional and Islamic banks in the Saudi Arabian banking landscape. This study offers critical insights into the strategic significance of Internet Banking for Saudi Arabian banks' profitability and future planning, in line with the 2030 Vision goals. This research also supports informed decision making in the digital era, emphasizing the pivotal role of Internet Banking in shaping the future of the Saudi Arabian banking industry. The panax genus is a widely used medicinal plant with good biological activity. As one of the main active components of the Panax genus, polysaccharides have various pharmacological effects. This review summarizes the latest research reports on ginseng, American ginseng, and Panax notoginseng polysaccharides and compares the differences in extraction, isolation and purification, structural characteristics, and biological activities. The current research mainly focuses on ginseng polysaccharides, and the process of extraction, isolation, and structure analysis of each polysaccharide is roughly the same. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that these polysaccharides have antioxidants, antitumor, immunomodulatory, antidiabetic, intestinal protection, skin repair, and other biological activities. This review provides new insights into the differences between the three kinds of ginseng polysaccharides which will help to further study the medicinal value of ginseng in traditional Chinese medicine. Water and nutrient are two critical factors that limit plant growth to spatial-temporal extents. Tree root foraging behavior has not received adequate attention in heterogeneous soil environments in temperate forest under drought pressure. In this study, birch (Betula platyphylla) and larch (Larix olgensis) seedlings were raised in pots in a split-root system with artificially heterogeneous soil environments to study the root foraging response to drought. Potted space was split into two halves where substrates were mixed with fertilizers in 67.5 mg nitrogen (N) plant-1 (N-P2O5-K2O, 14-13-13) to both halves as to create a homogeneous condition. Otherwise, a rate of 135 mg N plant-1 of fertilizers was delivered to a random half to create a heterogeneous condition. Half of seedlings were fully sub-irrigated every three days with the other half received the drought treatment by being watered every six days. Both birch and larch seedlings showed greater net shoot growth and biomass increment in well-watered condition, while root morphology was promoted by drought. Both species placed more fine roots with higher root N concentration in nutrient-enriched patches. In the heterogeneous pattern, birch showed a higher foraging precision assessed by biomass and greater foraging plasticity assessed in morphology and physiology. In contrast, larch seedlings had higher root N concentration in the well-watered condition. Neither species showed a significant response of N utilization to the heterogeneous pattern, but both used more N when water supply was improved. Overall, birch is better at acclimating to heterogeneous soil conditions, but its ability to seize N was lower than larch when drought was alleviated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For several centuries, the history of the West has merged with the history of the world. The global economy of knowledge is structured around epistemic inequalities, hegemonies, and dominations. A clear division of scientific practices has developed among academic "peripheries," "semi-peripheries," and "core." The question of epistemic injustice, which includes the indigenization of knowledge, was posed very early in the twentieth century in China, Japan, and Korea without being linked to coloniality, which was the case in Indian sociology. Based on the production of an epistemology shared with Chinese sociologists, we proposed a Post-Western sociology to enable a dialogue—on a level footing—addressing common concepts. This sociology also addresses concepts situated in European and Asian theories that consider the modes of creating continuities and discontinuities as well as the conjunctions and disjunctions between the knowledge spaces situated in different social contexts. We aim to fill the gaps between these social contexts. We will describe an ecology of knowledge in the Western-West, the non-Western-West, the semi-Western West, the Western East, the Eastern East, and the re-Easternized East situated on an epistemological continuum. While Chinese sociology has constantly oscillated between indigenization and universalism, and while epistemic autonomies are diverse, Chinese sociologists agree that Western sociologies should not be considered hostile to Chinese sociology. We will offer a definition of Post-Western sociology and demonstrate how it can be theoretically and methodologically applied. We will then identify some transnational theories, theoretical discontinuities and continuities, and common knowledge situated in Western and non-Western contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fast urbanization and population increase resulted in the demand for ornamental seedling supply in a high efficiency under the culture of continuous artificial lighting. Light emitting diode (LED) can be considered as the replacement of high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps by providing lights with specific wavelengths for plant growth at low energy cost. In this study, nutrient use efficiency was detected in Podocarpus macrophyllus seedlings under lighting spectra generated by white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) (red (R)/green (G)/blue (B)=8.4:75:16.6) and high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps (R/G/B/=4.3:69.3:26.5). Compared to seedlings under the HPS spectrum, those under white LED spectrum had better growth, greater biomass accumulation, higher photosynthesis and gas exchange. In contrast, LED-spectrum treated seedlings had greater nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) contents than HPS-spectrum treated ones. The LED spectrum promoted nutrient use index for both N and P in seedlings compared to the HPS spectrum. The LED spectrum induced steady-state uptake of P but resulted in the dilution of N. In conclusion, white LED can be considered to replace the usage of HPS lamps for the culture of tree seedlings due to the spectrum effect on N utilization, P uptake and the use efficiencies of N and P. Uniform and monodisperse Pt supported Co3O4 nanoflowers with thin nanosheets as building blocks are successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal strategy followed by a morphology-kept calcining treatment. The growth mechanism has been studied in-depth. The result has shown that such synthesis is highly sensitive to the concentration of urea, and more importantly, PVP and l-lysine which are also indispensable in that they are beneficial to the formation of sheet-like building blocks. In the following catalytic test for the CO oxidation reaction, the as-obtained Pt–Co3O4 nanoflower sample has shown much higher catalytic performance compared with a Pt-commercial Co3O4 sample. We demonstrate a fast and facile ultrasound-assisted method for the synthesis of ultrasmall SnO2 quantum dots with an average particle size of 3 nm followed by a self-assembly process on reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (RGO) to build a high-capacity anode material for lithium ion batteries (LIB). The bifunctional aminocaproic acid (AHA) plays a key role in our synthesis. It not only protected the ultrasmall SnO2 nanocrystals but also changed the SnO2 surface potential to +41.4 eV. More importantly, AHA was also used as a nitrogen source. It opens a new window to use this simple and low-cost method to fabricate complex graphene-based hybrid nanomaterials.
