Abstract Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a common occupational condition. The aim of this study was to develop a classification model for NIHL on the basis of both functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) by applying machine learning methods. fMRI indices such as the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), degree of centrality (DC), and sMRI indices such as gray matter volume (GMV), white matter volume (WMV), and cortical thickness were extracted from each brain region. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator was used to reduce and select the optimal features. The support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF) and logistic regression (LR) algorithms, were used to establish the classification model for NIHL. Finally, the SVM model based on combined fMRI indices, achieved the best performance, with area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.97 and an accuracy of 95%. The SVM classification model that integrates fMRI indicators has the greatest potential for identifying NIHL patients and healthy people, revealing the complementary role of fMRI indicators in classification and indicating that it is necessary to include multiple indicators of the brain when establishing a classification model.

Abstract TRIM14 is an important member of the TRIM family and is widely expressed in a variety of tissues. Like other members of the TRIM family, TRIM14 is also involved in ubiquitination modifications. TRIM14 was initially reported as an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG). In recent years, many studies have focused on the regulatory role of TRIM14 in signaling pathways such as the PI3K/Akt, NF-κB, and cGAS/STING pathways and revealed its mechanism of action in a variety of pathophysiological processes, and the regulation of TRIM14 has attracted the interest of many researchers as a new direction for the treatment of various diseases. However, there are no reviews on the role of TRIM14 in diseases. In this paper, we will describe the structure of TRIM14, review its role in cancer, cardiovascular disease, cervical spondylosis, inflammation and antiviral immunity, and provide an outlook on future research directions.

Abstract Vertical field effect transistor (VFET), in which the semiconductor is sandwiched between source/drain electrodes and the channel length is simply determined by the semiconductor thickness, has demonstrated promising potential for short channel devices. However, despite extensive efforts over the past decade, scalable methods to fabricate ultra-short channel VFETs remain challenging. Here, we demonstrate a layer-by-layer transfer process of large-scale indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) semiconductor arrays and metal electrodes, and realize large-scale VFETs with ultra-short channel length and high device performance. Within this process, the oxide semiconductor could be pre-deposited on a sacrificial wafer, and then physically released and sandwiched between metals, maintaining the intrinsic properties of ultra-scaled vertical channel. Based on this lamination process, we realize 2 inch-scale VFETs with channel length down to 4 nm, on-current over 800 A/cm2, and highest on-off ratio up to 2 × 105, which is over two orders of magnitude higher compared to control samples without laminating process. Our study not only represents the optimization of VFETs performance and scalability at the same time, but also offers a method of transfer large-scale oxide arrays, providing interesting implication for ultra-thin vertical devices.

Introduction: Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) of the soft tissue is a type of tumor that primarily affects the deep soft tissues of the extremities and trunk. We report a case of CCS of soft tissue arising in the first metacarpal of the hand, focusing on the imaging features of CCS combined with the clinicopathological and immunological results. Case Presentation: In this case, computed tomography images showed a soft tissue mass at the first metacarpal, with heterogeneous density, unclear boundaries, and bone destruction. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the mass showed slightly higher signal intensity on T1-weighted images and mixed hyperintensity on T2-weighted images, with inhomogeneous enhancements. On both T1-weighted and T2-weighted sequences, there were some hypointense strips. No significant enhancements were found in these hypointense strips. Conclusion: We suggest that hypointense strips on MRI should lead to the inclusion of CCS in differential diagnoses.

BackgroundTriglycerides and fasting glycemic index are biomarkers used to assess the risk of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. It and its derivatives such as the TyG-BMI index are currently able to reflect the degree of insulin resistance and are closely related to a variety of metabolic diseases. The relationship between the TyG-BMI index and hearing loss remains underexplored, particularly in the context of aging and public health. This study investigates the association of the TyG index, BMI index, and TyG-BMI index with hearing loss, with a focus on their potential implications for the aging population.MethodsData from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) database were analyzed using R software. We applied multi-factor logistic regression, linear regression, restricted cubic splines, and subgroup analyses to assess the impact of the TyG index, BMI index, and TyG-BMI index on hearing loss across different age groups.ResultsThe TyG index was not significantly associated with hearing loss. However, both the BMI index and the TyG-BMI index exhibited a positive correlation with hearing loss, particularly among older individuals. The results suggest that as the population ages, higher BMI and TyG-BMI indices may increase the risk of hearing impairment.ConclusionWhile the TyG index does not show a significant link to hearing loss, higher BMI and TyG-BMI indices are associated with an increased risk of hearing loss, especially in older adults. These findings highlight the importance of considering aging-related factors in public health initiatives aimed at preventing hearing loss. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these associations and to develop age-inclusive strategies for addressing hearing impairment in the aging population.

Key Clinical Message We report a case of hepatic subcapsular hematoma in a newborn baby detected with an autoimmune hemolytic condition due to ABO incompatibility. Magnetic resonance imaging could be helpful in differentiating hepatic subcapsular hematoma from other abdominal masses.

High-resolution remote sensing satellites have revolutionized remote sensing research, yet accurately segmenting specific targets from complex satellite imagery remains challenging. While the Segment Anything Model (SAM) has emerged as a promising universal segmentation model, its direct application to remote sensing imagery yields suboptimal results. To address these limitations, we propose RSAM-Seg, a novel deep learning model adapted from SAM specifically designed for remote sensing applications. Our model incorporates two key components: Adapter-Scale and Adapter-Feature modules. The Adapter-Scale modules, integrated within Vision Transformer (ViT) blocks, enhance model adaptability through learnable transformations, while the Adapter-Feature modules, positioned between ViT blocks, generate image-informed prompts by incorporating task-specific information. Extensive experiments across four binary and two multi-class segmentation scenarios demonstrate the superior performance of RSAM-Seg, achieving an F1 score of 0.815 in cloud detection, 0.834 in building segmentation, and 0.755 in road extraction, consistently outperforming established architectures like U-Net, DeepLabV3+, and Segformer. Moreover, RSAM-Seg shows significant improvements of up to 56.5% in F1 score compared to the original SAM. In addition, RSAM-Seg maintains robust performance in few-shot learning scenarios, achieving an F1 score of 0.656 with only 1% of the training data and increasing to 0.815 with full data availability. Furthermore, RSAM-Seg exhibits the capability to detect missing areas within the ground truth of certain datasets, highlighting its capability for completion.

Abstract Objective To explore the changes in the cerebral microstructure of patients with noise‐induced hearing loss (NIHL) using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Method Overall, 122 patients with NIHL (mild [MP, n = 79], relatively severe patients [including moderate and severe; RSP, n = 32], and undetermined [lost to follow‐up, n = 11]) and 84 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled. All clinical data, including age, education level, hearing threshold, occupation type, noise exposure time, and some scale scores (including the Mini‐Mental State Examination [MMSE], tinnitus handicap inventory [THI], and Hamilton Anxiety Scale [HAMA]), were collected and analyzed. All participants underwent T1WI3DFSPGR and DTI, and tract‐based spatial statistics and region of interest (ROI) analysis were used for assessment. Results The final sample included 71 MP, 28 RSP, and 75 HCs. The HAMA scores of the three groups were significantly different (p .05). Technologies for CO2 capture and utilization (CCU) are crucial for combating ever-increasing climate change. While the electrochemical conversion of captured CO2 has flourished in the past few years, CO2 capturing techniques are relatively mature. Typical capturing media include alkaline and amine solutions, as well as porous nanomaterials. Scaling CCU requires efficient integration of initial capture and subsequent conversion processes into one device, which is typically referred to as an integrated process. This approach has witnessed notable progress in recent years, which motivates this timely and comprehensive review. We first compare the economic aspects of separate and integrated CCU systems. Then, we discuss the separate CCU approaches that have traditionally been employed and expound on the motivations to develop an integrated system. We focus specifically on two integrated CCU approaches – direct electrolysis of capture solutions and the adoption of bifunctional porous electrodes. We also introduce the working mechanism of each approach and the latest developments, along with a comprehensive discussion on remaining challenges. To conclude, we provide an overall evaluation and outlook on advancing this integrated approach for CCU.

Social networks were heavily intertwined with elites’ social status and political power throughout the Han dynasty. This article introduces the Han Elites’ Social Network Dataset, an open-access dataset that the author collected primarily through manual labor. It contains data on Han elites’ marriage, kinship, patron-client, teacher-disciple, friendship, and recommender-nominee relationships. The article then visualizes and analyzes these social networks in relation to Han politics. It argues that social networks provided individuals with channels for upward social mobility and access to political careers, and that the reliance on different types of networks contributed to the formation of political cliques as well as the growing conflict between the inner court and the outer court.

Abstract LncRNAs play a pivotal role in tumorigenesis and development. However, the potential involvement of lncRNAs in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) needs to be further explored. All the data used in this study were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, and all analyses were conducted using R software. Basing on the seven prognosis-related lncRNAs finally selected, we developed a prognosis-predicting model with powerful effectiveness (training cohort, 1 year: AUC = 0.70, 95% Cl = 0.57–0.78; 3 years: AUC = 0.71, 95% Cl = 0.6–0.8; 5 years: AUC = 0.76, 95% Cl = 0.66–0.87; validation cohort, 1 year: AUC = 0.70, 95% Cl = 0.58–0.8; 3 years: AUC = 0.73, 95% Cl = 0.63–0.82; 5 years: AUC = 0.68, 95% Cl = 0.5–0.85). Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) is crucial because it helps monitor the operating status of electrical appliances online; detailed power consumption data regarding the appliances can then be obtained. However, the identification of resistive appliances that have similar features in a power grid is still a major problem. In this study, the reconstructed image of a voltage–current (VI) trajectory is used as input data for a convolutional neural network (CNN) to classify the appliances, particularly resistive appliances. Two dataset PLAID and IDOUC are introduced to verify the performance of the proposed method. According to the results, the excellent performance of the reconstructed VI image method for the identification of the household appliances with similar waveform is validated by comparing it with the other two methods.

Reliable poverty data are critical for regional economic analysis and policy making, especially considering that economic inequality and sustainable development are widespread social concerns. This article proposes a multitask learning model combining deep residual neural networks and feature pyramid networks to estimate poverty level from multiple sources including the night-time light data, Landsat 8 imagery, and spectral index data. We first train the multitask learning model using the multisource data in Chongqing, China and then estimate the representative economic indicators in the study area. The model is evaluated with the Pearson correlation coefficient of the actual and estimated economic indicators. The result shows that the proposed model outperforms other models with the Pearson correlation coefficient up to 0.87 in the annual estimates of economic indicators between 2013 and 2017. As all the data used in this article are publicly available, the proposed model can be used to estimate the economic indicators in other regions as well.

The timely and proper rehabilitation of damaged roads is essential for road maintenance, and an effective method to detect road surface distress with high efficiency and low cost is urgently needed. Meanwhile, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with the advantages of high flexibility, low cost, and easy maneuverability, are a new fascinating choice for road condition monitoring. In this paper, road images from UAV oblique photogrammetry are used to reconstruct road three-dimensional (3D) models, from which road pavement distress is automatically detected and the corresponding dimensions are extracted using the developed algorithm. Compared with a field survey, the detection result presents a high precision with an error of around 1 cm in the height dimension for most cases, demonstrating the potential of the proposed method for future engineering practice.

Ubiquitinases are known to catalyze ubiquitin chains on target proteins to regulate various physiological functions like cell proliferation, autophagy, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression. As a member of E3 ligase, ubiquitin protein ligase E3 component n-recognin 5 (UBR5) belongs to the HECT E3 ligase and has been reported to be correlated with various pathophysiological processes. In this review, the authors give a comprehensive insight into the structure and function of UBR5. The authors discuss the specific domains of UBR5 and explore their biological functions separately. Furthermore, the authors describe the involvement of UBR5 in different pathophysiological conditions, including immune response, virus infection, DNA damage response, and protein quality control. Moreover, the authors provide a thorough summary of the important roles and regulatory mechanisms of UBR5 in cancers and other diseases. On the whole, investigating the domains and functions of UBR5, elucidating the underlying mechanisms of UBR5 with various substrates in detail may provide new theoretical basis for the treatment of diseases, including cancers, which could improve future studies to construct novel UBR5-targeted therapy strategies. Functional reorganization is a response to auditory deficits or deprivation, and less is known about the overall brain network alterations involving resting‐state networks (RSNs) and multiple functional networks in patients with occupational noise‐induced hearing loss (NIHL). So this study evaluated resting‐state functional network connectivity (FNC) alterations in occupational NIHL using an independent component analysis (ICA). In total, 79 mild NIHL patients (MP), 32 relatively severe NIHL patients (RSP), and 84 age‐ and education‐ matched healthy controls (HC) were recruited. All subjects were tested using the Mini‐mental State Examination scale, the tinnitus Handicap Inventory scale, the Hamilton Anxiety scale (HAMA) and scanned by T1‐3DFSPGR, resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging sequence in 3.0 T and analysed by the ICA. Seven RSNs were identified, compared with the HC, the MP showed increased FNC within the executive control network (ECN) and enhanced FNC within the default mode network (DMN) and the visual network (VN); compared with the HC, the RSP showed decreased FNC within the ECN and auditory network (AUN), DMN and VN; no significant changes in FNC were found in the MP compared with the RSP. Furthermore, the correlation analysis between the noise exposure time and hearing loss level, HAMA were both negative, and there were no significant correlations between the abnormal RSNs and the hearing level, noise exposure time and HAMA. These findings indicate that different degrees of NIHL involve different alterations in RSNs connectivity and may reveal the neural mechanisms related to emotion‐related features and functional abnormalities following long‐term NIHL. Debates persist regarding the efficacy and safety of azvudine, particularly its real-world outcomes. This study involved patients aged ≥60 years who were admitted to 25 hospitals in mainland China with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection between December 1, 2022, and February 28, 2023. Efficacy outcomes were all-cause mortality during hospitalization, the proportion of patients discharged with recovery, time to nucleic acid-negative conversion (TNANC), time to symptom improvement (TSI), and time of hospital stay (THS). Safety was also assessed. Among the 5884 participants identified, 1999 received azvudine, and 1999 matched controls were included after exclusion and propensity score matching. Azvudine recipients exhibited lower all-cause mortality compared with controls in the overall population (13.3% vs. 17.1%, RR, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.67–0.90; P = 0.001) and in the severe subgroup (25.7% vs. 33.7%; RR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.66–0.88; P
