Abstract Background Short sleep can lead to an increase in inflammation and regular exercise has been shown to have a mitigation effect. However, the association between physical exercise (PE) and inflammation in the short sleep population is an unknown and intriguing issue. Methods NHANES dataset spanning the years 2007 to 2018 were analyzed. To investigate the relationship mentioned above, we carried out multivariate linear regression models controlling for sociodemographic and lifestyles factors. The systemic immune inflammation index (SII) served as a reflection of inflammatory potential, calculated as the product of platelet count, neutrophil count, and divided by the lymphocyte count. Self-reported questionnaires were used to collect sleep and exercise information. Results A total of 14,664 participants were included for final analysis. Offshore wind farms are becoming increasingly distant from onshore centralized control centers, and the communication delays between them inevitably introduce time delays in the measurement signal of the primary frequency control. This causes a deterioration in the performance of the primary frequency control and, in some cases, may even result in frequency instability within the power system. Therefore, a frequency response model that incorporates communication delays was established for power systems that integrate offshore wind power. The Padé approximation was used to model the time delays, and a linearized frequency response model of the power system was derived to investigate the frequency stability under different time delays. The influences of the wind power proportion and frequency control parameters on the system frequency stability were explored. In addition, a Smith delay compensation control strategy was devised to mitigate the effects of communication delays on the system frequency dynamics. Finally, a power system incorporating offshore wind power was constructed using the MATLAB/Simulink platform. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed delay compensation control strategy.

Abstract The authors propose a novel object detection algorithm for identifying bird nests in medium voltage power line aerial images, which is crucial for ensuring the safe operation of the power grid. The algorithm utilises an improved Swin Transformer as the main feature extraction network of Fast R‐CNN, further enhanced with a channel attention and modified binary self‐attention mechanism to improve the feature representation ability. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on a newly constructed image dataset of medium voltage transmission lines containing bird nests, which are annotated and classified. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves satisfied accuracy and robustness in recognising bird nests compared to traditional algorithms.

Abstract Sleep is a modifiable behavior that can be targeted in interventions aimed at promoting healthy aging. This study aims to (i) identify the sleep duration trend in US adults; (ii) investigate the relationship between sleep duration and phenotypic age; and (iii) explore the role of exercise in this relationship. Phenotypic age as a novel index was calculated according to biomarkers collected from US adults based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Sleep information was self-reported by participants and discerned through individual interviews. The principal analytical method employed was weighted multivariable linear regression modeling, which accommodated for the complex multi-stage sampling design. The potential non-linear relationship was explored using a restricted cubic spline (RCS) model. Furthermore, subgroup analyses evaluated the potential effects of sociodemographic and lifestyle factors on the primary study outcomes. A total of 13,569 participants were finally included in, thereby resulting in a weighted population of 78,880,615. An examination of the temporal trends in sleep duration revealed a declining proportion of individuals with insufficient and markedly deficient sleep time since the 2015–2016 cycle. Taken normal sleep group as a reference, participants with extreme short sleep [β (95% CI) 0.582 (0.018, 1.146), p = 0.044] and long sleep [β (95% CI) 0.694 (0.186, 1.203), p = 0.010] were both positively associated with phenotypic age using the fully adjusted model. According to the dose–response relationship between sleep duration and phenotypic age, long sleep duration can benefit from regular exercise activity, whereas short sleep duration with more exercise tended to have higher phenotypic age. There is an inverted U-shaped relationship between short and long sleep durations and phenotypic age. This study represents an important step forward in our understanding of the complex relationship between sleep and healthy aging. By shedding light on this topic and providing practical exercise recommendations for promoting healthy sleep habits, researchers can help individuals live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.

A more resilient livelihood is increasingly recognized as an efficient way to improve vulnerable households’ food security and optimize their dietary decisions. This study quantifies rural household resilience in western China, identifies the three pillars (absorptive capacity, adaptive capacity, and transformative capacity) contribution to resilience, and then establishes the estimated Resilience Capacity Index (RCI) linked with food security and dietary diversity supported by the multiple indicator multiple cause (MIMIC) model. Results show that, despite geographical heterogeneity, the RCI consistently increased from 2015 to 2021. Households with a higher RCI inheriting better capacity to deal with risk and shocks are significantly and positively correlated with increasing food expenditure and diversifying food choices. It can be because resilient households will allocate more money to food expenditure instead of saving for livelihood uncertainty. Thus, policymakers can provide more incentives for rural households to adopt more dynamic and effective risk management strategies. This, in turn, could yield positive spillover effects by preventing human capital loss associated with dietary-related chronic diseases and mortality.

Abstract The neurotoxicity of heavy metals received increasingly attention in recent years. Sleeping is regulated and coordinated by nervous system, however, the health hazard of heavy metal like cadmium (Cd) exposure on sleep health remained unknown. Rescue strategies like physical exercise (PE) has emerged to mitigate such influence. An epidemiological design with cross-sectional data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007–2010 was applied. The relationship between three blood heavy metals [cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg)] and sleep disturbance was analyzed. A total of 8,751 participants were finally included in and the weighted participants were 330,239,463. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression indicated that mixed blood metals were positively related to risk of sleep disturbance and the mixture effect of exposure to heavy metals was mainly attributable to Cd (89.1%). Weighted logistic regression showed a significant positive association between the highest quartile of blood Cd and sleep disturbance [(OR (95% CI)): 1.191 (1.014,1.400), p = 0.036] in the fully adjusted model, while no association was found under Pb and Hg exposure. In the association between Q3 and Q4 level of blood Cd and sleep disturbance, moderate-to-vigorous physical exercise group had lower risks than none and low exercise group. In the restricted cubic spline model, it was also verified that higher PE participation was associated with the lowest incidence of sleep disturbance with the increment in Cd concentration. Our study suggested that both policy makers and the public should minimize heavy metal exposure. Moreover, conducting moderate to vigorous physical exercise is a protecting factor to mitigate Cd’s influence on sleep health.

Strawberry root rot caused by Fusarium solani is one of the main diseases of strawberries and significantly impacts the yield and quality of strawberry fruit. Biological control is becoming an alternative method for the control of plant diseases to replace or decrease the application of traditional chemical fungicides. To obtain antagonistic bacteria with a high biocontrol effect on strawberry root rot, over 72 rhizosphere bacteria were isolated from the strawberry rhizosphere soil and screened for their antifungal activity against F. solani by dual culture assay. Among them, strains CMS5 and CMR12 showed the strongest inhibitory activity against F. solani (inhibition rate 57.78% and 65.93%, respectively) and exhibited broad-spectrum antifungal activity. According to the phylogenetic tree based on 16S rDNA and gyrB genes, CMS5 and CMR12 were identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Lipopeptide genes involved in surfactin, iturin, and fengycin biosynthesis were detected in the DNA genomes of CMS5 and CMR12 by PCR amplification. The genes related to the three major lipopeptide metabolites existed in the DNA genome of strains CMS5 and CMR12, and the lipopeptides could inhibit the mycelial growth of F. solani and resulted in distorted hyphae. The inhibitory rates of lipopeptides of CMS5 and CMR12 on the spore germination of F. solani were 61.00% and 42.67%, respectively. The plant-growth-promoting (PGP) traits in vitro screening showed that CMS5 and CMR12 have the ability to fix nitrogen and secreted indoleacetic acid (IAA). In the potting test, the control efficiency of CMS5, CMR12 and CMS5+CMR12 against strawberry root rot were 65.3%, 67.94% and 88.00%, respectively. Furthermore, CMS5 and CMR12 enhanced the resistance of strawberry to F. solani by increasing the activities of defense enzymes MDA, CAT and SOD. Moreover, CMS5 and CMR12 significantly promoted the growth of strawberry seedlings such as root length, seedling length and seedling fresh weight. This study revealed that B. amyloliquefaciens CMS5 and CMR12 have high potential to be used as biocontrol agents to control strawberry root rot.

ObjectiveTo compare the therapeutic effects and adverse reactions of sterilizing rare earth carbonate combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy and simple concurrent chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of late-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to analyze the reasons for the differences.MethodA total of 817 patients with pathologically diagnosed late-stage NSCLC from June 1, 2021 to December 30, 2022, in the affiliated hospital of Kunming University of Science and Technology, were selected. They were randomly divided into a control group of 394 people and an experimental group of 423 people. The control group was given concurrent chemoradiotherapy (cisplatin + etoposide), while the experimental group simultaneously took a low dose of sterilized rare earth carbonate (0.05mg/Kg). The χ² test and Fisher’s test were used to compare the clinical pathological features, objective response rate (ORR), ECOG score, and adverse reactions of the two groups of patients, while survival analysis was used to compare the progression-free survival (PFS) of the two groups. Cox regression analysis was used to test factors related to prognosis.ResultsThe differences in clinical pathological features between the two groups of patients were not statistically significant, with all P>0.05. The ORR of the control group was 45.18% (178/394), and the experimental group was 89.83% (380/423), with a statistically significant difference (P=0.001). Abnormal cellular apoptosis plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of Multiple Myeloma (MM). Over the years, BCL-2, a crucial anti-apoptotic protein, has garnered significant attention in MM therapeutic research. Venetoclax (VTC), a small-molecule targeted agent, effectively inhibits BCL-2, promoting the programmed death of cancerous cells. While VTC has been employed to treat various hematological malignancies, its particular efficacy in MM has showcased its potential for broader clinical applications. In this review, we delve into the intricacies of how VTC modulates apoptosis in MM cells by targeting BCL-2 and the overarching influence of the BCL-2 protein family in MM apoptosis regulation. Our findings highlight the nuanced interplay between VTC, BCL-2, and MM, offering insights that may pave the way for optimizing therapeutic strategies. Through this comprehensive analysis, we aim to lay a solid groundwork for future explorations into VTC’s clinical applications and the profound effects of BCL-2 on cellular apoptosis.

Abstract Background Trouble sleeping is one of the major health issues nowadays. Current evidence on the correlation between muscle quality and trouble sleeping is limited. Methods A cross-sectional study design was applied and participants aged from 18 to 60 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2014 was used for analysis. Muscle quality index (MQI) was quantitatively calculated as handgrip strength (HGS, kg) sum/ arm and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM, kg) by using the sum of the non-dominant hand and dominant hand. Sleeping data was obtained by interviews and self-reported by individuals. The main analyses utilized weighted multivariable logistic regression models according to the complex multi-stage sampling design of NHANES. Restricted cubic spline model was applied to explore the non-linear relationship between MQI and trouble sleeping. Moreover, subgroup analyses concerning sociodemographic and lifestyle factors were conducted in this study. Results 5143 participants were finally included in. In the fully adjusted model, an increased level of MQI was significantly associated with a lower odds ratio of trouble sleeping, with OR = 0.765, 95% CI: (0.652,0.896), p = 0.011. Restricted cubic spline showed a non-linear association between MQI and trouble sleeping. However, it seemed that the prevalence of trouble sleeping decreased with increasing MQI until it reached 2.362, after which the odds ratio of trouble sleeping reached a plateau. Subgroup analyses further confirmed that the negative association between the MQI and trouble sleeping was consistent and robust across groups. Conclusion Overall, this study revealed that MQI can be used as a reliable predictor in odds ratio of trouble sleeping. Maintaining a certain level of muscle mass would be beneficial to sleep health. However, this was a cross-sectional study, and causal inference between MQI and trouble sleeping was worthy of further exploration.

In this paper, we mainly consider two kinds of perturbed accelerated gradient descents driven by Lévy perturbations, which is of great importance for enhancing the global search ability. By using Lévy representation, Lévy perturbations can be divided into two parts: small jumps and large jumps, whose properties are then carefully discussed. By introducing the concept of attraction domain for local minima, Makovian transition properties are proven for the proposed two perturbed accelerated gradient descents with different infinitesimal matrices. Finally, all the results are extended to the vector case and two simulation examples are provided to validate all the conclusions.

The main topic of this research is the relationship between dietary intake of live microbe-containing (LMC) foods, recreational physical activity (RPA), and the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII). This study presented a cohort of 26,254 individuals in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), representing an estimated weighted population of 193,637,615 in the United States. Weighted multivariable linear regression models were used in consideration of the multi-stage sampling design. Results: The study found that medium-LMC foods were negatively associated with the SII [β (95% CI): −4.807 (−7.752, −1.862), p = 0.002], indicating that their intake was correlated with lower levels of the SII. However, no significant associations were found with low- or high-LMC foods. The study also explored the relationship between RPA and the SII, finding that more time spent in RPA was negatively associated with the SII [β (95% CI): −0.022 (−0.034, −0.011), p < 0.001]. A mediation analysis was conducted to investigate the role of RPA in the relationship between medium-LMC food intake and the SII. The analysis revealed that RPA had a notable indirect effect, contributing to 6.7% of the overall change in the SII. Overall, this study suggests that medium-LMC food intake and RPA may have beneficial effects on systemic immune inflammation.

In response to the need for multiple complete bearing degradation datasets in traditional deep learning networks to predict the impact on individual bearings, a novel deep learning-based rolling bearing remaining life prediction method is proposed in the absence of fully degraded bearng data. This method involves processing the raw vibration data through Channel-wise Attention Encoder (CAE) from the Encoder-Channel Attention (ECA), extracting features related to mutual correlation and relevance, selecting the desired characteristics, and incorporating the selected features into the constructed Autoformer-based time prediction model to forecast the degradation trend of bearings’ remaining time. The feature extraction method proposed in this approach outperforms CAE and multilayer perceptual-Attention Encoder in terms of feature extraction capabilities, resulting in reductions of 0.0059 and 0.0402 in mean square error, respectively. Additionally, the indirect prediction approach for the degradation trend of the target bearing demonstrates higher accuracy compared to Informer and Transformer models, with mean square error reductions of 0.3352 and 0.1174, respectively. This suggests that the combined deep learning model proposed in this paper for predicting rolling bearing life may be a more effective life prediction method deserving further research and application.

Objectives Existing assertions about the relationship between various factors of the built environment and physical activity behaviors are inconsistent and warrant further exploration and analysis. Methods This study systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, the Cochrane Library and Google Scholar for the effect of the built environment on the physical activity behaviors of older adults. R software was used to calculate the meta-estimated odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval. Simultaneously, the quality of included studies was evaluated using an observational study quality evaluation standard recommended by American health care quality and research institutions. Results A total of 16 original researches were included in this meta-analysis and eight factors of the built environment were evaluated. These factors which ranked from high to low according to their impact were traffic safety (OR = 1.58, 95% CI [1.14–2.20]), destination accessibility (OR = 1.24, 95% CI [1.06–1.44]), aesthetics of sports venues (OR = 1.21, 95% CI [1.07–1.37]), virescence of sports venues (OR = 1.14, 95% CI [1.06–1.23]), building density (OR = 1.07, 95% CI [1.02–1.13]). Additionally, it seemed that there was no potential association between mixed land use (OR = 1.01, 95% CI [0.92–1.10]), the quality of pedestrian facilities (OR = 1.00, 95% CI [0.92–1.08]) or commercial facilities (OR = 0.94, 95% CI [0.88–1.00]) and physical activity behaviors of older adults. Conclusions The built environment has been found to exhibit a significant relationship with the physical activity behaviors of older adults. It is proposed that factors such as traffic safety, destination accessibility, aesthetics of sports venues, virescence of sports venues, and building density be given more consideration when aiming to promote physical activity levels among older adults.

Leonurine refers to the desiccated aerial portion of a plant in the Labiatae family. The primary bioactive constituent of Leonurine is an alkaloid, Leonurine alkaloid (Leo), renowned for its substantial therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of gynecological disorders, in addition to its broad-spectrum antineoplastic capabilities. Over recent years, the pharmacodynamic mechanisms of Leo have garnered escalating scholarly interest. Leo exhibits its anticancer potential by means of an array of mechanisms, encompassing the inhibition of neoplastic cell proliferation, induction of both apoptosis and autophagy, and the containment of oncogenic cell invasion and migration. The key signal transduction pathways implicated in these processes include the Tumor Necrosis Factor-Related Apoptosis-Inducing Ligand (TRAIL), the Phosphoinositide3-Kinase/Serine/Threonine Protein Kinase (PI3K/AKT), the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3), and the Mitogen-Activated Protein/Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase (MAP/ERK). This paper commences with an exploration of the principal oncogenic cellular behaviors influenced by Leo and the associated signal transduction pathways, thereby scrutinizing the mechanisms of Leo in the antineoplastic sequence of events. The intention is to offer theoretical reinforcement for the elucidation of more profound mechanisms underpinning Leo’s anticancer potential and correlating pharmaceutical development.

Regulatory T cells (Treg), as members of CD4+ T cells, have garnered extensive attention in the research of tumor progression. Treg cells have the function of inhibiting the immune effector cells, preventing tissue damage, and suppressing inflammation. Under the stimulation of the tumor inflammatory microenvironment (IM), the reprogramming of Treg cells enhances their suppression of immune responses, ultimately promoting tumor immune escape or tumor progression. Reducing the number of Treg cells in the IM or lowering the activity of Treg cells while preventing their reprogramming, can help promote the body’s anti-tumor immune responses. This review introduces a reprogramming mechanism of Treg cells in the IM; and discusses the regulation of Treg cells on tumor progression. The control of Treg cells and the response to Treg inflammatory reprogramming in tumor immunotherapy are analyzed and countermeasures are proposed. This work will provide a foundation for downregulating the immunosuppressive role of Treg in the inflammatory environment in future tumor immunotherapy.

ObjectiveTo find out how bacterial lung infections (BLI) affect the effectiveness of therapy and the rate of pneumonia caused by pneumonia related to checkpoint inhibitors (CIP) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are getting immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).Patients and methods507 NSCLC patients who received at least two ICI treatments between June 2020 and December 2022 at the Affiliated Hospital of Kunming University of Science and Technology(AHKUST) were included in a retrospective cohort study. Based on whether there was a concurrent BLI diagnosis from high-resolution CT scans of the chest, the patients were divided into two groups: 238 in the NSCLC with BLI group (NSCLC-BLI group), and 269 in the NSCLC alone group. BackgroundResearchers have conducted a considerable number of epidemiological studies on dyslipidemia in China over recent years. Nevertheless, a representative study to comprehensively appraise for the epidemiological status of dyslipidemia is still lacked. This meta-analysis is intended to explore the pooled prevalence, rates of awareness, treatment, and control of dyslipidemia among adults in Chinese Mainland.Materials and methodsA systematic review was performed on relevant cross-sectional studies published since January 2012 by searching six authoritative literature databases. Meta-analyses were conducted in included studies based on a random-effect model to summarize the epidemiological status of dyslipidemia in China. A potential source of heterogeneity was detected by subgroup analysis and meta-regression. Publication bias was assessed by Egger's test and funnel plots. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to examine the study quality's influence on the pooled estimate of prevalence and rates of awareness, treatment, and control.ResultsForty-one original researches with a total of 1,310,402 Chinese participants were finally included in the meta-analysis. The prevalence, rates of awareness, treatment, and control of dyslipidemia were 42.1%, 18.2%, 11.6%, and 5.4%, respectively. With a pooled prevalence estimate at 24.5%, low HDL-C was the most prevalent among various dyslipidemia types, followed by hypertriglyceridemia (TG) (15.4%), hypercholesterolemia (TC) (8.3%), and high LDL-C (7.1%). The pooled prevalence of elevated serum lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] was 19.4%. By gender, the prevalence of dyslipidemia was 47.3% in males and 38.8% in females. Subgroup analyses revealed that the prevalence in southern and urban areas were higher than their counterparts. Females and population in urban areas tended to possess higher rates of awareness, treatment, and control. Meta-regression analyses suggested that the year of screening influenced prevalence estimates for dyslipidemia. The impact of the study's quality on the pooled estimates is insignificant.ConclusionOur study suggested a severe epidemic situation of dyslipidemia among adults in Chinese Mainland. More importantly, the awareness, treatment, and control rates were extremely low, revealing that dyslipidemia is a grave health issue. BackgroundIt has been demonstrated that elderly people’s cognitive capacities can be improved with exercise, and short sleep is linked to cognitive decline. However, the impact of physical exercise on cognitive performance in seniors who do not get enough sleep is largely unknown. This makes it an intriguing subject to explore further.MethodsThis study consisted of elders (over 60 years old) who participated throughout the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey’s 2011–2014 cycle (NHANES). Weighted linear regression model and restricted cubic splines analysis were performed to evaluate the association between physical exercise and cognitive function. In the end, 1,615 samples were scrutinized and the total number of weighted respondents was 28,607,569.ResultsResults showed that in the Animal Fluency test and the Digit Symbol Substitution test, a positive association was found between physical exercise volume and scores in the fully adjusted model. A two-piecewise linear regression model was then applied to explore the threshold effect of exercise on cognitive performance. Before 960 and 800 MET-minutes/week, there were consistent positive relationship between exercise and scores of the Animal Fluency test [ß (95% CI): 0.233 (0.154, 0.312), p < 0.001] and Digit Symbol Substitution test [β (95% CI): 0.555 (0.332, 0.778), p < 0.001], respectively. However, there was a saturation effect where physical exercise volume reached the two inflection points.ConclusionAccording to our research, the benefit of exercise did not always expand with the exercise volume increment under the short-sleep condition, which challenged existing knowledge. The short-sleep elder group could maintain cognitive performance with no more than 800 MET-minutes/week of physical exercise. Verification of these findings requires further biological investigations.

BackgroundChronic comorbidity has become a major challenge in chronic disease prevention and control. This issue is particularly pronounced in rural areas of developing countries, where the prevalence of chronic disease comorbidity is high, especially among middle-aged and older adults populations. However, the health status of middle-aged and older adults individuals in rural areas of China has received inadequate attention. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the correlation among chronic diseases to establish a reference basis for adjusting health policies aimed at promoting the prevention and management of chronic diseases among middle-aged and older adults individuals.MethodsThis study selected 2,262 middle-aged and older adults residents aged 50 years or older in Shangang Village, Jiangsu Province, China, as the study population. To analyze the chronic comorbidity of middle-aged and older adults residents with different characteristics, we used the χ2 test with SPSS statistical software. Data analysis was conducted using the Apriori algorithm of Python software, set to mine the strong association rules of positive correlation between chronic disease comorbidities of middle-aged and older adults residents.ResultsThe prevalence of chronic comorbidity was 56.6%. The chronic disease comorbidity group with the highest prevalence rate was the lumbar osteopenia + hypertension group. There were significant differences in the prevalence of chronic disease comorbidity among middle-aged and older adults residents in terms of gender, BMI, and chronic disease management. The Apriori algorithm was used to screen 15 association rules for the whole population, 11 for genders, and 15 for age groups. According to the order of support, the most common association rules of comorbidity of three chronic diseases were: {lumbar osteopenia} → {hypertension} (support: 29.22%, confidence: 58.44%), {dyslipidemia} → {hypertension} (support: 19.14%, confidence: 65.91%) and {fatty liver} → {hypertension} (support: 17.82%, confidence: 64.17%).ConclusionThe prevalence of chronic comorbidity among middle-aged and older adults rural residents in China is relatively high. We identified many association rules among chronic diseases, dyslipidemia is mostly the antecedent, and hypertension is primarily the result. In particular, the majority of comorbidity aggregation patterns consisted of hypertension and dyslipidemia. By implementing scientifically-proven prevention and control strategies, the development of healthy aging can be promoted.

BackgroundShort sleep is more common in the modern society. Recreational physical activity (RPA) like exercise brings both mental and physiological benefits to depression; paradoxically, lack of sleep is harmful. Evidence on the association between RPA and depression in the short sleep population is limited.MethodsParticipants with short sleep condition from the National health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES 2007–2018) were included in the present study. Short sleep condition was defined as ≤ 7 h per night. Sleep duration and RPA status were self-reported in NHANES by the Physical Activity Questionnaire using a 7-day recall method. Multivariable logistic regression was applied to evaluate the association between RPA and depression. Additionally, the non-linear relationship between RPA and depression was evaluated using the threshold effect analysis and restricted cubic spline.ResultsThis cross-sectional study comprised 6,846 adults' data, and the weighted participants were 52,501,159. The weighted prevalence of depression was higher in females, which took up 65.85% of all depression patients. In fully adjusted models, sufficient volume of RPA was associated with lower depression risks, with OR (95% CI) =0.678 (0.520, 0.883). Further analysis revealed a U-shaped association between RPA and incident depression, and the inflection point was 640 MET-minutes/week. When RPA

Optimization algorithms have now played an important role in many fields, and the issue of how to design high-efficiency algorithms has gained increasing attention, for which it has been shown that advanced control theories could be helpful. In this paper, the fixed-time scheme and reset scheme are introduced to design high-efficiency gradient descent methods for unconstrained convex optimization problems. At first, a general reset framework for existing accelerated gradient descent methods is given based on the systematic representation, with which both convergence speed and stability are significantly improved. Then, the design of a novel adaptive fixed-time gradient descent, which has fewer tuning parameters and maintains better robustness to initial conditions, is presented. However, its discrete form introduces undesirable overshoot and easily leads to instability, and the reset scheme is then applied to overcome the drawbacks. The linear convergence and better stability of the proposed algorithms are theoretically proven, and several dedicated simulation examples are finally given to validate the effectiveness.

BackgroundTwo related lifestyle behaviors associated with sleep disturbance are sedentary behavior and physical exercise participation. We aimed to use a population-based study to disentangle the relationships between sedentary behavior, exercise, and sleep disturbance based on blood-cell-based inflammatory biomarkers.MethodsA total of 22,599 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were included in the analyses. Sleep disturbance was assessed according to the NHANES questionnaire. Exercise participation ansd sedentary behavior were evaluated by the global physical activity questionnaire. The inflammatory biomarkers in the examination were white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil count (NEU), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and systemic immune inflammation index (SII). A complex multistage sampling design and weighted multivariable logistic regression were applied for further analysis. Mediation models were constructed to figure out the mediating role of inflammatory biomarkers.ResultsThe weighted prevalence of sleep disturbance was 24.17%. Sedentary behavior and exercise were associated with sleep disturbance after full adjustment [for sedentary behavior, OR (95% CI): 1.261 (1.154, 1.377); for exercise, OR (95% CI): 0.849 (0.757, 0.953)]. In severe sedentary behavior groups, the mitigation effect of exercise on sleep disturbance was observed [OR (95% CI): 0.687 (0.551, 0.857)]. For the mechanism, strong associations were detected between inflammatory biomarkers and sleep disturbance. Mediation analysis showed that WBC, NEU, NLR, and SII mediated the statistical association between sedentary behavior and sleep disturbance with proportions (%) of 2.09, 2.27, 1.76, and 0.82, respectively.ConclusionsOur data suggested that sedentary behavior was a risk factor for sleep disturbance. Blood-cell-based inflammatory biomarkers were an easily accessible and cost-effective strategy for identifying sleep disturbance and also significantly mediated the association between sedentary behavior and sleep disturbance. Exercise was proved to be effective in severe sedentary behavior groups to improve sleep disturbance symptoms, while the internal mechanism needed further exploration.

Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) caused by Neisseria meningitidis (Nm) continues to be a global public health concern. Understanding the prevalence of Nm serogroups in IMD is critical for developing strategies for meningococcal vaccination. We used the keywords “cerebrospinal meningitis”, “meningococcal”, “Neisseria meningitidis’’, “meningococcal meningitis”, “serogroup’’ and “China’’ to search five databases, including PubMed, CNKI, CBM (Chinese BioMedical Literature Database), WanFang and VIP from 2010 to 2020. The age distributions, proportions of Nm serogroups and serogroup changes in IMD were analyzed. A total of 14 studies were included according to PRISMA guidelines. In China, from 2010 to 2020, the highest proportion of Nm in IMD was NmC, with 49.7% (95% CI: 35.8%–63.5%), followed by NmB with 30.2% (95%CI:17.3%–43.0%) and NmW with 23.8% (95%CI: 7.0–40.7%). Before 2014, NmC was the major circulating serogroup, with 59.6% (95% CI: 43.8%-75.4%), followed by NmW with 24.4% (95% CI: 5.9%–42.9%). After 2015, IMD cases caused by NmB were increasing, the proportion of NmB reached to 52.4% (95% CI: 31.8%–73.1%). The age groups of children from 0 to 5 years and from 6 to 10 years represented, respectively, 29.6% (95% CI: 16.8%–42.4%) and 28.9% (95% CI: 12.1%–45.8%) of all IMD cases were reported. In China, NmB, NmC and NmW were the major serogroups causing IMD between 2010 and 2020. Since 2015, the proportion of NmB increased rapidly. The current serogroup distribution in China highlights the need of replacing the meningococcal polysaccharide vaccines that are being used in the National Immunization Program with more appropriate vaccines.

BackgroundVillage doctors (VDs) in China undertook arduous primary healthcare missions. However, they received little attention in comparison to doctors in urban public secondary and tertiary hospitals. There is an urgent need to explore the overall situation of turnover intention and job burnout among VDs to evaluate and adjust current health manpower policy.MethodsIn this study, seven databases like PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science (WOS), WanFang, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), Chinese BioMedical Literature Database (CBM), and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were systematically searched, relevant experts were consulted, and empirical research on job burnout and turnover intention among VDs in international publications was evaluated. Therefore, we evaluated the prevalence of job burnout among VDs in general, across all dimensions and different severity levels, as well as the scores of each category. For turnover intention, we assessed the prevalence of different groups and their overall situation and also identified significant contributors.ResultsIn this study, we integrated 20 research evidences on job burnout and turnover intention among 23,284 VDs from almost all provinces in China, and the prevalence of turnover intention among VDs in China was as high as 44.1% [95% confidence interval (CI): 34.1–54.2], which was two to four times that of primary health workers in high-income countries, but not much different from some developing countries. ObjectiveA growing body of research suggests that patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may be at increased risk of developing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), and having both conditions can make the condition worse. However, current research views are not uniform. Therefore, to explore the link between PCOS and HT, we conducted this study.MethodsFrom the establishment of the database to August 2022, we searched 2 databases to study the correlation between Hashimoto’s and polycystic ovary syndrome. Two authors independently screened the articles for eligibility, and three authors extracted relevant data. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA16.0 software.ResultsA total of 20 studies were included, including 7 case-control studies and 13 cross-sectional studies. A total of 13 countries and 7857 participants were embraced. Studies have demonstrated that both PCOS patients have an increased risk of HT, and meanwhile, HT patients also have an increased risk of PCOS compared with controls. The study also incorporated that the prevalence of HT in PCOS patients in India and Turkey was higher than in other countries, and the prevalence of HT in PCOS patients in South America was higher than in Asia and Europe.ConclusionsIn conclusion, our study illustrates that there is a correlation between PCOS and HT, and it is necessary to further study the underlying mechanism between PCOS and HT. ObjectiveAlthough Hashimoto's thyroiditis is associated with cardiovascular disease and malignancy, the global status of Hashimoto's thyroiditis is not well characterized across regions. Our objective was to evaluate the prevalence and trends of Hashimoto's thyroiditis in adults in regions with different economic income levels around the world.MethodsFor this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, and 48 random-effects representative studies from the inception to June 2022 were included without language restrictions to obtain the overall prevalence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis in adults worldwide. In addition, we stratified by time of publication, geographic region, economic level of the region of residence, gender, diagnostic method, etc.ResultsA total of 11,399 studies were retrieved, of which 48 met the research criteria: 20 from Europe, 16 from Asia, five from South America, three from North America, and three from Africa. Furthermore, there are two projects involving 19 countries and 22,680,155 participants. The prevalence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis was 7.5 (95%CI 5.7–9.6%), while in the low-middle-income group the prevalence was 11.4 (95%CI 2.5–25.2%). Similarly, the prevalence was 5.6 (95%Cl 3.9–7.4%) in the upper-middle-income group, and in the high-income group, the prevalence was 8.4 (95%Cl 5.6–11.8). The prevalence of Hashimoto's varied by geographic region: Africa (14.2 [95% CI 2.5–32.9%]), Oceania (11.0% [95% CI 7.8–14.7%]), South America and Europe 8.0, 7.8% (95% Cl 0.0–29.5%) in North America, and 5.8 (95% Cl 2.8–9.9%) in Asia. Although our investigator heterogeneity was high (I2), our results using a sensitivity analysis showed robustness and reliability of the findings. People living in low-middle-income areas are more likely to develop Hashimoto's thyroiditis, while the group in high-income areas are more likely to develop Hashimoto's thyroiditis than people in upper-middle-income areas, and women's risk is about four times higher than men's.ConclusionsGlobal Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients are about four times as many as males, and there are discrepancies in the regions with different economic levels. In low-middle-income areas with a higher prevalence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, especially countries in Africa, therefore local health departments should take strategic measures to prevent, detect, and treat Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Depressive symptoms are major public health problems. Leisure-time Physical activity (LPA) and dietary inflammatory preference are emerging factors that tends to affect the mental health status. There is limited evidence regarding the joint influence of LPA and dietary status on the prevalence of depression. This study was a cross-sectional study, which used a nationwide represented sample from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to assess the relationship among LPA, diet status and depression. Depression and LPA status was reported by the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Physical Activity Questionnaire (PAQ), respectively. To assess dietary inflammatory preferences, dietary inflammatory index (DII) was applied based on a 24-h dietary recall interview. A total of 11,078 subjects was included in this study and weighted participants were 89,682,020. Weighted multivariable linear regression showed that DII was negatively associated with LPA after full adjustment, with β (95% CI): −0.487 (−0.647, −0.327). Weighted multivariable logistic regression showed that LPA was significantly associated with depressive symptoms after full adjustment, with odds ratios OR (95% CIs): 0.986 (0.977, 0.995). By DII stratification analysis, this phenomenon was also existed in groups with anti-inflammatory diet. Mediation effect analysis was further performed, which showed that DII significantly mediating the association between LPA and depression with proportion mediated as 3.94%. Our findings indicated the mediating role of DII in the association between LPA condition and incident depression. More well-designed studies are still needed to validate the causal relationship.

BackgroundVillage doctors are the health “gatekeepers” of rural residents in most developing countries. They undertake a series of strenuous but pivotal missions, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of complicated diseases, sanitation services and management, and preventive healthcare and education tasks. Hence, it is of great importance to evaluate the village doctors’ job satisfaction status, which is one of the most important indicators that can reflect the current working state, to provide guidelines for the healthcare policies.MethodsLiterature search was conducted in 7 authoritative databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Experts in the field of social medicine were consulted to achieve supplement and obtain relevant literature. China was selected as a representative of the village doctor system for the in-depth analysis. Building on the previous literature, we modified and proposed a novel strategy that can transform and integrate the outcome indicators to conduct a meta-based and quantitative assessment on job satisfaction.ResultsA total of 37 publications and 23,595 village doctors were included in this research. The meta-analysis showed that the overall job satisfaction score of village doctors was 3.1858 (total score: 5.00), 95% CI: 2.9675–3.404, which represented the level of “neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.” However, in the subsequent adjustment of publication bias, this score reduced to 2.7579, 95% CI: 2.5254–2.9904, which indicated a direct “dissatisfied” level. To discover the underlying causes, a holistic analysis of each dimension and influencing factors of job satisfaction was conducted, and the results demonstrated that “Financial Rewards” (2.49) was the most important factor causing dissatisfaction among village doctors, followed by “Job Security (2.52)” and “Work Stress (3.05).” Several important themes were also identified and assessed to explore the factors related to this topic.ConclusionThis study indicated that there is an urgent need to improve the working status of health workers in rural and remote areas, especially in the middle- and low-income countries. Health policy makers should not only improve the current remuneration and subsidies of village doctors but also guide the professional development and give them more job security to enhance the work stability of this group. BackgroundGaps remained in the updated information of the firearm violence (FV) burden from a global landscape. Understanding the global burden of FV could contribute to decision-making.MethodsData on the FV burden, including physical violence by firearm (PVF), self-harm by firearm (SHF), and unintentional firearm injuries (UFI), were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease 2019. The temporal trends of age-standardized rate (ASR) were estimated using estimated annual percentage change (EAPC).ResultsIn 2019, PVF, SHF, and UFI reported 710.64 × 103, 335.25 × 103, and 2,133.88 × 103, respectively, incident cases worldwide. Their ASR (/100,000 people-years) were 9.31, 4.05, and 28.07. During 1990–2019, the overall incident ASRs of PVF presented an increasing trend (EAPC = 0.61, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.48 to 0.75). Notably, pronounced increasing trends were observed in Tropical Latin America, and North Africa and Middle East. However, incident trends of SHF and UFI declined globally, with the respective EAPCs being −0.68 (95% CI: −0.83 to −0.54) and −0.98 (95% CI: −1.19 to −0.77). In 2019, the ASR of death due to PVF, SHF, and UFI were 2.23, 0.65, and 0.26, and that of DALYs were 127.56, 28.10, and 17.64, respectively. Decreasing trends in the ASRs of FV were observed in most regions and countries worldwide over the past three decades, particularly that of PVF in Estonia.ConclusionThe FV burden was heterogeneous across regions and countries, which was deeply subjected to socioeconomic factors. The findings highlighted that specific prevention strategies and interventions were required, particularly in the high prevalent settings.

In this paper, a novel fixed-time distributed optimization algorithm is proposed to solve the multi-agent collaborative optimization (MSCO) problem with local inequality constraints, global equation constraints and unknown disturbances. At first, a penalty function method is used to eliminate the local inequality constraints and transform the original problem into a problem without local constraints. Then, a novel three-stage control scheme is designed to achieve a robust fixed-time convergence. In the first stage, a fixed-time reaching law is given to completely eliminate the effect of unknown disturbances with the aid of the integral sliding mode control method; in the second stage, a suitable interaction strategy is provided such that the whole system could satisfy the global constraints in fixed-time; in the third stage, a fixed-time gradient optimization algorithm of the multi-agent system is presented, with which the states of all the agents will converge to the minimum value of the global objective in a fixed-time. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified in the problem of wind farm co-generation with 60 wind turbines.

IntroductionRural health workers (RHWs) play an irreplaceable role in ensuring and improving the health level of rural residents as the most basic and extensive medical service providers in rural areas. However, rural health institutions are facing significant worker shortages worldwide, not only in low- and middle-income countries but also in developed countries. As an important variable to explain RHWs' work status and predict turnover behavior, job satisfaction has received more and more attention currently.MethodsPublications from 1 January 1995 to 31 December 2021 were identified from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded), the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC); CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R software were applied to conduct this study.ResultsA total of 251 publications were obtained from the WoSCC database. The number of publications had a statistically significant increase in the study period. Ranking in the top three of the most productive countries or regions in this field was the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. “Health Care Sciences & Services,” “Nursing,” and “Public, Environmental & Occupational Health” seemed to be the major subjects. According to the reference co-citation analysis, “motivation,” “rural and remote areas,” and “work environment” were three noteworthy topics during the development of the research field. Moreover, through the keyword analysis, the underlying relationship among “job satisfaction,” “job burnout,” and “turnover intention” was explored.ConclusionPublications about job satisfaction associated with RHWs had remarkably indicated that this research field had great development potential and broad prospects. As an emerging topic related to RHWs' job status, job satisfaction and its related affected factors were systematically summarized by cluster and keywords analysis. We also highlighted that job satisfaction had a negative predictive effect on RHWs' job burnout and turnover intention, and job burnout played a positive role in predicting turnover intention. In addition, the job satisfaction and working environment of RHWs under the COVID-19 pandemic should receive more attention in the future.

BackgroundPost-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO) is a rare and irreversible chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with no specific treatment, especially for patients with PIBO in remission. In this study, we evaluated the effects of continuous inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) and intermittent ICSs on lung function in the remission of PIBO.MethodsThis was a retrospective study, and all the subjects we included were divided into continuous ICS group and intermittent ICS group according to treatment regimens. Patients in continuous ICS group received continuous ICSs (2 times a day), and patients in intermittent ICS group received intermittent ICSs (inhaled corticosteroids after acute respiratory tract infection or wheezing). Different lung function tests were performed at different ages. Tidal breathing lung function tests were performed in patients with PIBO aged ≤ 5 years, and the lung ventilation function test and the bronchial dilation test were performed in patients with PIBO aged more than 5 years. Lung function was assessed at the beginning of follow-up and at the end of follow-up (1 year of ICSs).ResultsAfter 1 year of ICSs, patients aged more than 5 years, forced vital capacity (FVC), and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) were significantly higher than at the beginning of follow-up. After 1 year of ICSs, the difference in VT/Kg, TPTEF/TE, and VPEF/VE between the end and the beginning of follow-up in continuous ICS group shows an upward trend. But those showed a downward trend in intermittent ICS group. FVC, FEV1, and maximal mid-expiratory flow velocity 25–75% (MMEF25–75%) of continuous ICS group were significantly higher than at the beginning of follow-up. The difference in FEV1 and MMEF25–75% between the end of follow-up and the beginning of follow-up in continuous ICS group was significantly higher than that in intermittent ICS group. A total of 52.94% of patients with PIBO aged more than 5 years were positive for bronchial dilation tests.ConclusionInhaled corticosteroids can effectively improve lung function and relieve airway obstruction in patients aged more than 5 years in PIBO remission, especially continuous ICSs. Patients with PIBO may have reversible airflow limitations.

Physical exercise (PE) brings physiological benefits to human health; paradoxically, exposure to air pollution (AP) is harmful. Hence, the combined effects of AP and PE are interesting issues worth exploring. The objective of this study is to review literature involved in AP-PE fields to perform a knowledge-map analysis and explore the collaborations, current hotspots, physiological applications, and future perspectives. Herein, cluster, co-citation, and co-occurrence analysis were applied using CiteSpace and VOSviewer software. The results demonstrated that AP-PE domains have been springing up and in rapid growth since the 21st century. Subsequently, active countries and institutions were identified, and the productive institutions were mainly located in USA, China, UK, Spain, and Canada. Developed countries seemed to be the major promoters. Additionally, subject analysis found that environmental science, public health, and sports medicine were the core subjects, and multidimensional communications were forming. Thereafter, a holistic presentation of reference co-citation clusters was conducted to discover the research topics and trace the development focuses. Youth, elite athletes, and rural population were regarded as the noteworthy subjects. Commuter exposure and moderate aerobic exercise represented the common research context and exercise strategy, respectively. Simultaneously, the research hotspots and application fields were elaborated by keyword co-occurrence distribution. It was noted that physiological adaptations including respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, and mental health were the major themes; oxidative stress and inflammatory response were the mostly referred mechanisms. Finally, several challenges were proposed, which are beneficial to promote the development of the research field. Molecular mechanisms and specific pathways are still unknown and the equilibrium points and dose-effect relationships remain to be further explored. We are highly confident that this study provides a unique perspective to systematically and comprehensively review the pieces of AP-PE research and its related physiological mechanisms for future investigations.

Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) was widely implemented to improve the rheological properties of displacing fluids, but the high temperature and salinity of the reservoir brine limited their applications. Herein, copolymers including HPAM, zwitterion-modified HPAM (z-HPAM), PEG-modified HPAM (p-HPAM), and zwitterion/PEG-modified HPAM (zp-HPAM) were prepared by free radical polymerization in an aqueous solution. The viscosity of these copolymers under different temperature and salinity was measured in aqueous solution. It is found that the viscosity of the HPAM under the harsh condition (90oC, 20 × 104 mg/L salinity) is only 9.6% of that value under the normal condition (25oC, pure water), while the z-HPAM can significantly improve salt resistance by the effects of salting-in effect and intermolecular electrostatic crosslinking, showing a viscosity retention of 22.9% under the harsh condition. The addition of PEG-containing monomer can strengthen hydrogen bonding between the polymer chains and form a sterically ordered structure with improved salinity and temperature resistance. The synergistic effect of zwitterion units and PEG units endows the zp-HPAM with good salinity and temperature resistance; thus, the sample viscosity under the harsh condition remains 170 mPa s, which retains 29% of the value under the normal condition. The enhanced rheology properties of the zp-HPAM under the harsh condition are significant for the enhanced oil recovery of water-soluble polymer flooding.

In this paper, the sliding-mode control method was used to control a class of general nonlinear fractional-order systems which covers a wide class of chaotic systems. A novel sliding manifold with an additional nonlinear part which achieved better control performance was designed. Furthermore, a novel fixed-time reaching law with a fractional adaptive gain is proposed, where the reaching time to the sliding manifold is determined by the first positive zero of a Mittag–Leffler function and is independent of initial conditions. We have provided some instructions on tuning the parameters of the proposed reaching law to avoid exacerbating the chattering phenomenon. Finally, simulation examples are presented to validate all results.

This paper addresses the distributed optimal decoupling synchronous control of multiple autonomous unmanned linear systems (MAUS) subject to complex network dynamic coupling. The leader–follower mechanism based on neighborhood error dynamics is established and the network coupling term is regarded as the external disturbance to realize the decoupling cooperative control of each agent. The Bounded L2-Gain problem for the network coupling term is formulated into a multi-player zero-sum differential game. It is shown that the solution to the multi-player zero-sum differential game requires the solution to coupled Hamilton–Jacobi (HJ) equations. The coupled HJ equations are transformed into an algebraic Riccati equation (ARE), which can be solved to obtain the Nash equilibrium of a multi-player zero-sum game. It is shown that the bounded L2-Gain for coupling attenuation can be realized by applying the zero-sum game solution as the control protocol and the ultimately uniform boundedness (UUB) of a local neighborhood error vector under conservative conditions is proved. A simulation example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A superconducting quadrupole magnet based on the Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) type coil with a gradient field of 40 T/m and a bore diameter of 60 mm has been designed for the preresearch of two projects of high intensity accelerator facility (HIAF) and accelerator driven subcritical system (ADS). The magnet is comprised of two-layer coils embedded in the formers and the end plates for locating. The coil formers made of aluminum alloy are machined with grooves according to the drive equations of CCT for placing the wires. The existence of ribs between two adjacent wires can avoid accumulation of the electromagnetic force. It is important to take the mechanical design for the complex structure to avoid tensile stresses on the conductor and confine the stresses within a reasonable value. The stress analysis for the quadrupole magnet has been carried out considering the thermal shrinking due to cool down as well as the electromagnetic force on the coil. This paper reports the detailed stress analysis for the CCT quadrupole magnet structure, discusses the calculating results, and gives a reasonable mechanical design.

Optimal random foraging strategy has gained increasing concentrations. It is shown that Lévy flight is more efficient compared with the Brownian motion when the targets are sparse. However, standard Lévy flight generally cannot be followed in practice. In this paper, we assume that each flight of the forager is possibly interrupted by some uncertain factors, such as obstacles on the flight direction, natural enemies within the vision distance, and restrictions in the energy storage for each flight, and introduce the tempered Lévy distribution p(l) ~ e−ρll−μ. It is validated by both theoretical analyses and simulation results that a higher searching efficiency can be derived when a smaller ρ or μ is chosen. Moreover, by taking the flight time as the waiting time, the master equation of the random searching procedure can be obtained. Interestingly, we build two different types of master equations: one is the standard diffusion equation and the other one is the tempered fractional diffusion equation.

Lévy flights is a random walk where the step-lengths have a probability distribution that is heavy-tailed. It has been shown that Lévy flights can maximize the efficiency of resource searching in uncertain environments and also the movements of many foragers and wandering animals have been shown to follow a Lévy distribution. The reason mainly comes from the fact that the Lévy distribution has an infinite second moment and hence is more likely to generate an offspring that is farther away from its parent. However, the investigation into the efficiency of other different heavy-tailed probability distributions in swarm-based searches is still insufficient up to now. For swarm-based search algorithms, randomness plays a significant role in both exploration and exploitation or diversification and intensification. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the optimal randomness in swarm-based search algorithms. In this study, cuckoo search (CS) is taken as a representative method of swarm-based optimization algorithms, and the results can be generalized to other swarm-based search algorithms. In this paper, four different types of commonly used heavy-tailed distributions, including Mittag-Leffler distribution, Pareto distribution, Cauchy distribution, and Weibull distribution, are considered to enhance the searching ability of CS. Then four novel CS algorithms are proposed and experiments are carried out on 20 benchmark functions to compare their searching performances. Finally, the proposed methods are used to system identification to demonstrate the effectiveness.

A single polyaniline nanofiber field effect transistor (FET) gas sensor fabricated by means of electrospinning was investigated to understand its sensing mechanisms and optimize its performance. We studied the morphology, field effect characteristics and gas sensitivity of conductive nanofibers. The fibers showed Schottky and Ohmic contacts based on different electrode materials. Higher applied gate voltage contributes to an increase in gas sensitivity. The nanofiber transistor showed a 7% reversible resistance change to 1 ppm NH3 with 10 V gate voltage. The FET characteristics of the sensor when exposed to different gas concentrations indicate that adsorption of NH3 molecules reduces the carrier mobility in the polyaniline nanofiber. As such, nanofiber-based sensors could be promising for environmental and industrial applications.
