The $^{26}$Al short-lived radioactive nuclide is the source of the observed galactic diffuse $\gamma$-ray emission at 1.8 MeV. While different sources of $^{26}$Al have been explored, such as AGB stars, massive stars winds, and supernovae, the contribution of very massive stars has never been studied. We study the stellar wind contribution of very massive stars, i.e stars with initial masses between 150 and 300 M$_\odot$, to the enrichment in $^{26}$Al of the galactic interstellar medium. We discuss the production of $^{26}$Al by studying rotating and non-rotating very massive stellar models with initial masses between 150 and 300 M$_\odot$ for metallicities Z=0.006, 0.014, and 0.020. We confront this result to a simple Milky Way model taking into account both the metallicity and the star formation rate gradients. We obtain that very massive stars in the Z=0.006-0.020 metallicity range might be very significant contributors to the $^{26}$Al enrichment of the interstellar medium. Typically, the contribution of the winds of massive stars to the total quantity of $^{26}$Al in the Galaxy increases by 150\% when very massive stars are considered. Very massive stars, despite their rarity, might be important contributors to $^{26}$Al and overall very important actors for nucleosynthesis in the Galaxy., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
We revisit the studies of the isotopic shift in the charge radii of {\it even-even} isotopes of Sn and Pb nuclei at $N$ = 82, and 126, respectively, within the relativistic mean-field and Relativistic-Hartree-Bogoliubov approach. The shell model is also used to estimate isotopic shift in these nuclei, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The ground state single-particle energies ($spe$) are calculated for non-linear NL3 \& NL3$^*$ and density-dependent DD-ME2 parameter sets compared with the experimental data, wherever available. We establish a correlation between the filling of single-particle levels and the isotopic shift in occupation probabilities. The obtained $spe$ from the relativistic mean-field and Relativistic-Hartree-Bogoliubov approaches are in line with those used in the shell model and experimental data for both the Sn and Pb isotopic chains. The shell model calculated isotopic shift agrees with relativistic mean-field and Relativistic-Hartree-Bogoliubov approaches that explain the experimental data quite well., Comment: Published in Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics

We present a new overview of the life of very massive stars (VMS) in terms of neutrino emission from thermal processes: pair annihilation, plasmon decay, photoneutrino process, bremsstrahlung and recombination processes in burning stages of selected VMS models. We use the realistic conditions of temperature, density, electron fraction and nuclear isotropic composition of the VMS. Results are presented for a set of progenitor stars with mass of 150, 200 and 300 M$_\odot$ Z=0.002 and 500 M$_\odot$ Z=0.006 rotating models which are expected to explode as a pair instability supernova at the end of their life except the 300 M$_\odot$ would end up as a black hole. It is found that for VMS, thermal neutrino emission occurs as early as towards the end of hydrogen burning stage due to the high initial temperature and density of these VMS. We calculate the total neutrino emissivity, $Q_\nu$ and luminosity, $L_\nu$ using the structure profile of each burning stages of the models and observed the contribution of photoneutrino at early burning stages (H and He) and pair annihilation at the advanced stages. Pair annihilation and photoneutrino processes are the most dominant neutrino energy loss mechanisms throughout the evolutionary track of the VMS. At the O-burning stage, the neutrino luminosity $\sim 10^{47-48}$ erg/s depending on their initial mass and metallicity are slightly higher than the neutrino luminosity from massive stars. This could shed light on the possibility of using detection of neutrinos to locate the candidates for pair instability supernova in our local universe., Comment: 12 pages, submitted to MNRAS

Astrophysics - Solar and Stellar Astrophysics - Abstract
3D hydrodynamics models of deep stellar convection exhibit turbulent entrainment at the convective-radiative boundary which follows the entrainment law, varying with boundary penetrability. We implement the entrainment law in the 1D Geneva stellar evolution code. We then calculate models between 1.5 and 60 M$_{\odot}$ at solar metallicity ($Z=0.014$) and compare them to previous generations of models and observations on the main sequence. The boundary penetrability, quantified by the bulk Richardson number, $Ri_{\mathrm{B}}$, varies with mass and to a smaller extent with time. The variation of $Ri_{\mathrm{B}}$ with mass is due to the mass dependence of typical convective velocities in the core and hence the luminosity of the star. The chemical gradient above the convective core dominates the variation of $Ri_{\mathrm{B}}$ with time. An entrainment law method can therefore explain the apparent mass dependence of convective boundary mixing through $Ri_{\mathrm{B}}$. New models including entrainment can better reproduce the mass dependence of the main sequence width using entrainment law parameters $A \sim 2 \times 10^{-4}$ and $n=1$. We compare these empirically constrained values to the results of 3D hydrodynamics simulations and discuss implications., Comment: 14 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

In this study, we report our experience with femoral OM treated with acute compression and bone transport using the Orthofix limb reconstruction system (LRS). Patients and Methods: This prospective study included 30 consecutive patients with femoral OM. LRS insertion and corticotomy were done according to the standard technique. Radiographic evaluation was performed every 2 weeks during the distraction phase and every 2– 4 weeks during the consolidation phase. The clinical outcome measurements included union time, limb length discrepancy, additional operative procedures, refracture and infection. Results: The present study included 30 patients with femoral OM. They comprised 27 males (90.0%) and 3 females (10.0%) with an age of 28.1 ± 15.6 years. All, except one, achieved union with a mean union time of 8.6 months (range 4– 20 months). The mean union time for acute compression was 7.6 months (range 4– 20 months) while for patients with bone transport it was 14.5 months (range 12– 18 months). The mean limb length discrepancy was 1.8 cm (range 0– 4 cm). At the end of the follow=up, two patients were not able to ambulate without support; one due to non-union and one due to paraplegia. Conclusion: The present study identified treatment of femoral OM using LRS as a feasible and effective technique with good outcomes. Reported complications could be adequately managed in most cases. Keywords: osteomyelitis, external fixation, limb reconstruction system

The incidence of humeral osteomyelitis is relatively rare as compared to incidence of lower limb osteomyelitis. Despite having no guideline in the management of humeral osteomyelitis, surgeons have utilised their experience in managing lower limb osteomyelitis to treat humeral osteomyelitis. By adhering to principles including thorough debridement of necrotic bone and soft tissue, staged bony and/or soft tissue reconstruction, and targeted antimicrobial therapy, a good outcome can be achieved in the management of humeral osteomyelitis. We report a case of Cierny-Mader type IV proximal humeral osteomyelitis after a severe crush injury of the left shoulder and its subsequent two-stage reconstruction using internal fixation and pedicled Latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap.

Nevertheless, the clinical epidemiology, treatment pattern and disease outcome of ITP in Malaysia are still limited and not well known. Objective: This study aimed to describe the clinical epidemiology, treatment outcome and mortality of ITP patients in haematology tertiary multicentre in Malaysia. Methods: Clinical and laboratory data of newly diagnosed adults with ITP by a platelet count < 100 × 109/L from January 2010 to December 2020 were identified and analyzed. Results: Out of 500 incident ITP, 71.8% were females with a striking age preponderance of both genders among those aged 18– 29 years. The median age was 36 years. The median platelet count was 17.5 × 109/L, 23.0% had a secondary ITP, 34.6% had a Charlson’s score ≥ 1, 53.0% had bleeding symptoms including 2.2% intracranial bleedings (ICB). Helicobacter pylori screening was performed in < 5% of cases. Persistency and chronicity rates were 13.6% and 41.8%, respectively. Most (80.6%) were treated at diagnosis onset and 31.2% needed second-line treatment. Throughout the course of ITP, 11.0% of patients died; 3.0% and 8.0% with bleeding and non-bleeding related ITP.Conclusion: This study confirms the epidemiology of ITP is comparable with worldwide studies. Our incidence is high in the female, Malay ethnicity, primary ITP and events of cutaneous bleeding at ITP onset with 18– 29 years predominance age group for both genders. The frequency of persistent and chronic ITP is inconsistent with published literature. Corticosteroids and immunotherapies are the most prescribed first-line and second-line pharmacological treatments. Thrombopoietin receptor agonist medications (TPO-RAs) usage is restricted and splenectomy is uncommon. Our mortality rate is similar but ITP related bleeding death is fourth-fold lower than previous studies. Mortality risks of our ITP patients include age ≥ 60 years, male, severe bleeding at presentation, CCI≥ 1 and secondary ITP.Keywords: epidemiology, immune thrombocytopenia, mortality, treatment outcome

Glass compositions of 20Li2O-xBi2O3-(78-x)TeO2-1Er2O3-1Ag were fabricated to explore exciton-phonon and exciton-plasmon coupling for laser technology. The Urbach tails analysis indicates increased exciton-phonon coupling at x < 11 mol%, inferred from the disorder parameter Eo. The Elliott-Washington hydrogenic excitonic model highlights a decrease in optical bandgap (Eg) at x < 11 mol% before reaching a maximum at x = 11 mol%. Exciton-phonon coupling was analyzed using the Huang-Rhys parameter S. Fano resonance analysis suggests enhanced exciton-plasmon coupling at x = 5 mol%, leading to enhanced luminescence intensity (2H11/2). Methods including coupling polarizability α(λ), Purcell factor , and Lamb shift were employed to analyze the exciton-plasmon coupling. The ability to fine-tune optical properties is crucial for tailored laser emissions, applicable in light-emitting devices and material processing, where precise laser characteristics are essential. ENDOPHYTIC bacteria ,CALCAREOUS soils ,SOLUBILIZATION ,CALCIUM phosphate ,CALCIUM ions ,BACTERIAL colonies - Abstract
Phosphate is the second most essential nutrient for plant growth and development. Although the soil contains abundant phosphorus, only 0.1% is used by plant roots due to the significant amount of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) present in the calcareous soil, which limits the availability of P by reacting calcium ions with phosphate ions. It leads to alkaline reactions by generating insoluble phosphate compounds such as tricalcium phosphate. Here we study to boost phosphate solubilization in PSMs as an alternate strategy. Twenty-one bacterial isolates were selected from two different crops and investigated in vitro for their plant growth potential. All bacteria show capacity for phosphate solubility by producing a clear halo zone beneath and much more around bacterial colonies on Pikovskaya agar. In contrast, on modified Pikovskaya and only seven isolates with 60% reduction in zone formation were revealed to be positive for phosphate solubilization in which SWC5 was the best phosphate solubilizers with 1.25 phosphate solubilization index, respectively. All phosphate solubilizing bacteria showed irregular pattern in lowering the pH ranging from 4.1-6.27, where maximum decreased in pH was shown by SWS10.All bacteria showed phosphate solubilization ability in Pikovskaya broth phosphomolybdate assay ranging from 6.31 to 20.9 µg ml-1 in which the highest efficiency was demonstrated by SWS10. Phosphate solubilization efficiency in the potential isolates was confirmed by the presence of PqqE gene. The presence of the pqqE gene which is involved in phosphate solubilization was found in SWC4, SWC5, SWS10, and SW14 and it was absent in SWS9, SW18, and SW21. All the bacterial isolates were phylogenetically identified by sequencing and analyzing the 16S rRNA gene. The potential isolates Pseudomonas Koreensis, Pantoea dispersa, Pseudomonas sp., Agrobacterium sp. and consortia were selected for controlled condition experiment on Triticum aestivum. The highest plant dry weight was achieved by application of consortia and Pseudomonas Koreensis by increasing 65% and 59%, respectively, compared to control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the alternative applications of microwave photonics is hybrid Radio over Fiber (RoF) and Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems, which combines the advantages of radio frequency and optical communication together with wireless optical communication. In this paper, a hybrid radio over optical fiber and VLC system has been designed and simulated using OptiSystem Software by applying a Continuous Wave (CW) Laser at wavelength 1550 nm for optical fiber communication and 450 nm Visible Light LED for VLC system. The 8 Gbps of data was transmitted over 40 km of the fiber length and 3 m of VLC link with a Millimeter Wave (mmWave) frequency at 40 GHz. The proposed design system is analyzed based on the effect when varies the propagation distance for both fiber and VLC. The results show that as the number of fiber lengths increases, the BER performance is degraded until threshold limit 10
−9 . It is also shown that the proposed hybrid design system is working well even at a very high data rate of 8 Gbps for each user channel. The results also demonstrate that Non-Return Zero (NRZ) modulation technique has contributed to the better performance of the systems compared to Return Zero (RZ). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
This study attempts to analyse the municipal solid waste (MSW) recycling practices in the city of Kitakyushu, Japan, and Putrajaya Malaysia. Also assessed was the Putrajaya residents' preference for a MSW recycling system. Data were obtained through semi-structured interview, field observations and a survey to 301 residents in Putrajaya. The MSW generation rate in Putrajaya was 0.944 kg capita−1 day−1 with a recycling rate of about 8%. In the same year, the generation and recycling rates in Kitakyushu City were 0.495 kg capita−1 day−1 and 26% respectively. Both cities apply a separated waste collection system. In Kitakyushu City, waste is segregated into twenty-two recyclable items and the residents are required to purchase designated bags for waste separation and storage. The collection of nonrecyclable items in Kitakyushu City is more frequent and structured. In addition the waste separation at the recycling centres is also more specific and advanced. Nevertheless, the Putrajaya residents' preferred the existing MSW recycling system practiced in Putrajaya as their option in MSW recycling to the current system in Kitakyushu City (t (300)=9.524, p<0.000). This study suggests improvement of applicable technology and availability of stable market for recyclable materials particularly in Putrajaya. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) are widely used in radiation dosimetry due to their excellent properties, such as high sensitivity, small size, and ability to measure low doses of radiation. This review focuses on the structural properties of TLD materials, as well as their preparation, application, and adaptability. The review covers the various types of TLD materials, crystal structure, and properties, including energy response and fading characteristics. The different methods used to prepare TLD materials, such as solid-state synthesis, sol-gel synthesis, and solution growth methods, are discussed in detail. The review also includes a detailed discussion of the various applications of TLDs, including medical, environmental, and industrial radiation dosimetry. Extensive information on TLD is reviewed, and the TL characteristics that have a noticeable impact on the TL dosimetry potential for human and other purpose utilisation, such as mineral, oil, and gas resource investigation, can be done using natural and artificial TL signals. Information on TL measurement process requirements and the TL characteristics that have a noticeable impact on a compound TL dosimetry potential are also addressed. Finally, the review concludes by highlighting the adaptability of TLD materials to different dosimetry applications and their potential use in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A road maintenance employee is someone who ensures that roads and highways are safe, clean, and accessible. They perform a variety of tasks that demand physical exertion, such as repairing damaged automobiles, performing routine check-up procedures, or performing restoration work, among others. As a result, these workers may be exposed to hazardous situations, as there have been multiple accidents involving highway workers on the road recently. Signal Warning Detector casing structure was designed as part of a safety system to provide early warning to highway workers as traffic accidents among highway workers have become a concern. This study reviews the different reliability tests done on casing structure by previous researchers. Therefore, this study applies laboratory experiments to further test the reliability for the SWAD transmitter and receiver casing structure as a development step towards producing a reliable SWAD system. Safety procedures at highways are essential to ensure safe, clean and accessible roads and highways. The workers were often exposed to hazardous situations, as seen by numerous accidents involving highway workers on the road in recent years. Safety technologies in the highway construction work zone may help improve the roadway construction and maintenance workers' safety. This paper reviews the statistics of road accidents in Malaysia, highway work zone safety problems and existing applications of safety sensor systems as an improvement of safety technology in the construction work zones. As an improvement towards the safety technology, Signal Warning Detector (SWAD) system was developed to increase the safety at highway work zone especially on PLUS highways in Malaysia. The development of the SWAD system's parameter setting was discussed later in the methodology section of this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
