Backround: Elabela (ELA) is a hormone that is secreted at high levels in the kidneys of a healthy adult. This study aims to investigate whether serum ELA levels of patients with Type 2 Diabetes vary with the severity of renal damage. Methods: Our study included 50 healthy control subjects and 100 diabetic patients, who were categorized into groups based on urine albumin/creatinine ratios (ACR). Patients included in the study were assigned to four groups: Group 1 (healthy control), Group 2 (ACR300 mg/g normal or high serum creatinine). Physical examination findings, demographic characteristics of the study group were recorded, and serum ELA levels and other laboratory parameters were assessed using appropriate methods. Results: The results of the study indicated that ELA levels determined in healthy individuals gradually decreased through stages of normal albuminuria, microalbuminuria, and macroalbuminuria. WOS: 000462830400007, The aim of this study was to determine the most suitable irrigation schedules and sources of manure for maize under Mardin ecological conditions. For this purpose, four sources of fertilizer and three irrigation schedules were applied in hybrid maize cultivar to find out their effects on the yield and yield factors in the years of 2014 and 2015. The study used a randomized complete block with split block design with 3 replications. In the study, significant differences were determined on traits at the level of 1% and 5%. The plant height, first cob height, cob length, number of seeds per cob, cob yield, 1000 seed weight, seed yield per unit, hectoliter, protein and oil ratio in seed, Mg, K, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mn, Na, Ca content of seeds were significantly influenced by irrigation schedules and sources of fertilizer for two years. The highest values were obtained from chicken manure with 9646 kg ha(-1) in the first year and 11019 kg ha(-1 )in the second year, whereas the lowest values were obtained from control with 6363 and 6662 kg ha(-1) for the first year and the second, respectively. But the difference between 180-80 kg N-P(2)0(5) ha(-1) and chicken manure was not statistically significant in the second year. According to the irrigation schedules, the grain yield ranged between 6386-10678 kg/ha in the first year and 7575-12133 kg ha(-1) in the second year. The lowest grain yield per area was from the four-irrigation application, whereas the highest values were obtained from the six-irrigation application. Introduction: Meteorin-like (Metrnl), also known as subfatin, is a recently discovered adipokine with a favourable effect on insulin sensitivity. Studies have shown lower Metrnl levels in obese patients. However, data on its circulating levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients are contradictory. This study aims to evaluate serum Metrnl levels in T2DM patients and determine the relationship between serum Metrnl levels and insulin resistance in these patients. Material and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 150 participants. The study was carried out between June 2019 and December 2019 at the internal medicine outpatient clinic of a tertiary university hospital. The participants were divided into three groups: group 1 (control group, n = 50), group 2 (newly diagnosed T2DM, n = 50), and group 3 (long-standing diagnosed T2DM, n = 50). An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the serum levels of Subfatin (Metrnl), and the correlations of Metrnl level with anthropometric parameters, HOMA index, and biochemical measurements were assessed. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the gender (p = 0.468) and age (p = 0.067) characteristics of the three groups. The Metrnl (subfatin) levels of the participants were as follows: control group – 20.05 (1.56–103.78); newly diagnosed T2DM group – 2.62 (1.25–103.78); and long-standing diagnosed T2DM group – 2.01 (0.80–19.84) pg/mL. The Metrnl (subfatin) levels of the participants in the control group were higher than in the participants in the newly diagnosed T2DM and long-standing diagnosed T2DM groups (p < 0.001). Subfatin demonstrated a negative correlation with insulin and HOMA-IR in the control group and long-standing diagnosed T2DM group. Conclusions: The subfatin level was found to be higher in the healthy control group than in both diabetic patient groups. Subfatin level showed negative correlation with both insulin level and HOMA index. There was a relationship between subfatin and insulin resistance. Low levels of subfatin in the diabetic patient groups may play a role in the pathogenesis of T2DM by increasing insulin resistance.

The sidewalls of fused silica light pipes with millimeter-scale cross-sections, having two rough surfaces from etching, were polished using a CO2 laser. Surface profilometry and thermal management were used to achieve optical quality results.

Photogrammetry is the use of two dimensional (2D) images to provide measurement data. Photogrammetry uses a procedure referred to as “Structure from Motion” (SfM) to solve feature positions within a defined coordinate system. SfM photogrammetry offers the possibility of fast, automated and low-cost 3D data acquisition. The aim of this study was to investigate some applications of 3D reconstruction of residential areas generated by SfM photogrammetry. 3 different sites were reconstructed by 3 different methods using a UAV system. Each method was examined according to its advantages and drawbacks in the light of the SfM photogrammetry.

Aim: Hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections are important health problems that threaten human health. Health care workers are under a major risk for infectious diseases transmitted by blood. Every year more than 35 million health workers in the world, are exposed to injury with contaminated medical devices. Injury with infected cases poses a risk to the health staff. In this study we aimed to investigate the seroprevalences of HBV, HCV and HIV among healthcare workers in Viransehir State Hospital. Material and Method: Serum samples of healthcare workers for HBsAg, anti-HBs, anti-HCV and anti-HIV markers were measured by ELISA method based on the method of chemiluminescent immunoassay. Results: In a total 247 volunteers were included in the study in which 144 of them were male and 103 female. Mean age was 28.2±7.36. They were grouped according to specialties; 115 nurse/midwife/ health officer, 24 technician, 12 laboratory assistant/biolog, 53 cleaning staff, 35 security personel and 8 cafeteria staff . We found no positivity for anti-HCV ve anti-HIV among health care workers whereas HBsAg 0.8% and anti-HBs was 79.8% positive. Conclusion: Healthcare workers are under risk for HBV, HCV and HIV infections thus this stuff must periodically undergo a check-up, and those who are not immunized yet must be vaccinated for HBV. Health care workers compliance with standard infection control program should be increased and it is important to be constantly trained. Glass waveguides are fabricated using laser processing techniques that have low optical loss with >90% optical throughput. Advanced light pipes are demonstrated, including angled facets for turning mirrors used for lens-to-light pipe coupling, tapers that increase the concentration, and couplers for combining the outputs from multiple lens array elements. Because they are fabricated from glass, these light pipes can support large optical concentrations and propagate broadband solar over long distances with minimal loss and degradation compared to polymer waveguides. Applications include waveguiding solar concentrators using multi-junction PV cells, solar thermal applications and remoting solar energy, such as for daylighting. Ray trace simulations are used to estimate the surface smoothness required to achieve low loss. Optical measurements for fabricated light pipes are reported for use in waveguiding solar concentrator architectures.

Therefore, protection of cultural heritages means protection of the history and identity of the nations. Identification of the current status of cultural heritages is important for documentation, preservation, and for use as a base for restoration. Documentation studies need robust and scientific methods. GIS and photogrammetry have recently been the most commonly used scientific methods for documenting cultural heritages. The aim of this study is investigate the photogrammetric method and GIS for documentation of cultural heritages digitally. In documentation studies, digital terrestrial photogrammetry is one of the main methods of processing information of historical monuments on computers according to GIS and documenting it in three dimensions. In this study for documentation, all data of 46 historical monuments located in Silifke/Mersin were collected and transferred to a database so that it is made queryable. Some of those heritages were reconstructed as 3D models by the use of photogrammetric techniques. Finally, 3D Models were integrated into the system for presentation.

New applications for light pipes include waveguiding solar concentrators. For practical applications, achieving high optical transmission is critical so low-absorption glass is preferred over other materials, and the fabrication approach must show promise for scalability and low manufacturing costs. We present results for fabricated fused silica light pipes using femtosecond laser irradiation followed by chemical etching. After compensating for Fresnel losses and averaging over incident angles (in air) from 0° to 25°, transmission efficiencies of 96% and higher were measured for light pipes up to 20mm in length and 1mm2 cross-sectional area. The feasibility of creating glass light pipes with advanced geometries such as angled facets, tapering of the cross-section along the length, and combiners with micron-scale precision is also demonstrated. Tapered light pipes with concentrating factors up to 7x were fabricated, as well as cascaded structures with 45°-angled facets to couple light from multiple lens array elements into a common light pipe.

A new waveguiding concentrator design is presented that does not suffer from decoupling losses common to other waveguiding architectures. The geometric optical efficiency $({\eta}_{\mathrm{geo}})$ , before considering absorption and scattering, is higher than 99.9%. For a tracking (incidence) angle tolerance of ±0.8°, the efficiency only drops to 95.6%. The concentration optics are transparent, allowing collection of the diffuse sunlight with a low-cost single-junction solar cell. Glass waveguides are used so that absorption losses are minimized and the design can be scaled to large areas. We present simulation results using Zemax and TracePro to achieve high optical path efficiencies for both concentrated (direct) and diffuse light and energy harvesting efficiencies over 30% in both high and low DNI conditions using currently achievable PV cell efficiencies. We also discuss our first measurement results on fabricated glass waveguides and for a first prototype measurement with an efficiency of 90% for a single lens-to-waveguide optical path.

Bu araştırma 2009-2010 yetiştirme sezonunda Adıyaman ve Şanlıurfa-Hilvan lokasyonlarında yağışa dayalı şartlarda yürütülmüştür. Denemede, materyal olarak ICARDA ve Ege Tarımsal Araştırma Enstitüsü' nden elde edilen 10 adet ileri kademede hat ile birlikte Şahin 91(iki sıralı) ve Vamıkhoca 98 (6 sıralı) çeşitleri kontrol amaçlı kullanılmıştır. Denemeler tesadüf blokları deneme desenine göre dört tekrarlamalı olarak yürütülmüştür. Varyans analiz sonuçlarına göre incelenen özellikler bakımından genotipler, lokasyonlar arasında ve genotip lokasyon interaksiyonlarında % 1 ve % 5 seviyesinde önemli farklılıklar belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonunda farklı lokasyonlardan elde edilen ortalama sonuçlara göre; başaklanma süresi 92.0 ile 113.5 gün, bitki boyu 61.9 ile 85.0 cm, hektolitre ağırlığı 61.9 ile 70.9 kg/hl, bin tane ağırlığı 35.5 ile 44.0 g, tane verimi 140.9 ile 389.0 kg da-1arasında değişmiştir. Değişen çevre koşullarına bağlı olarak 1 ve 12 nolu hatlar araştırmada kontrol olarak kullanılan çeşitlere göre daha verimli oldukları tespit edilmiştir. Bu araştırmada kullanılan ileri kademedeki hatlardan ümitvar sonuçlar elde edilmiş ve araştırmanın yürütüldüğü çevre koşullarında çeşit adayı olabilecekleri sonucuna varılmıştır, The investigation was carried out in 2009-2010 growing season in Adıyaman and Sanlıurfa/Hilvan rainfall conditions. In this study, 10 advanced lines obtained from Aegean Agricultural Research Institute and ICARDA(International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas) with two control varieties, Şahin 91 (two rows) and Vamıkhoca 98 (6 rows), were used. Experiments were carried out with four replications according to the design of random blocks. According to the results of variance analysis, significant differences were found between genotypes, locations, and genotype location interactions at 1% and 5% levels, According to the results obtained from the average two-location, the results showed that heading time was changed between 92.0 and 113.5 days, plant height between 61.9 and 85.0 cm, hectoliter weight between 61.9 and 70.9 kg hl-1, thousand grain weight between 35.5 and 44.0 g and grain yield between 1409 with 3890 kg ha-1. Depending on the changing environmental conditions, lines 1 and 12 were found to be more efficient than the controls used in the study. On the other hand, the genotype 8 showed best performance on quality criteria among genotypes. Promising results were obtained from the advanced lines used in this study and it was concluded that they could be a candidate for variety in this environmental conditions

We present an optimization study on laser parameters for 3D micromachining of fused silica to achieve critical goals for practical applications including high surface quality, high volume production, and complex surfaces by ultrafast laser direct writing assisted chemical etching. We conducted experiments on laser pulse width of 300 fs and 1 ps, pulse energy ranging from 0.1 µJ to 1.6 µJ, three different polarizations (circular, parallel and perpendicular) and number of overlapped pulses from 3 to 10,000 at 1030 nm with up to 2 MHz repetition rate to investigate their effect on nanogratings and one dimensional (1D) channel and two dimensional (2D) planar surface selective etching on 1 mm thick fused silica. In one configuration, we achieved 21.8 nm RMS surface roughness with 80 µm Gaussian filtering and in another configuration, we estimated the maximum writing speed to be 1.25 m/s for given 2 MHz repetition rate with less than 400 nm filtered root mean square (RMS) surface roughness at a 1 mm2 area which covers the thickness of the glass.

Background: Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a reflection of platelet size, which has been shown to correlate with platelet function and activation. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether MPV, platelet distribution width (PDW) and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) can be used as diagnostic parameters for bronchial asthma. Methods: Patients admitted to our clinic with pulmonary symptoms and diagnosed with asthma, non-smoking healthy subjects and smoking healthy subjects included in the study. Patients were divided into three groups; in the first group non-smoker healthy people (non-smoker), in the second group smoking more than 5 pack-years cigarettes but still healthy people (smokers) and the third group asthmatic subjects but has no other disease (asthmatic subjects). Complete blood count of all subjects were studied within an hour (25-45 minutes) after the blood was taken. The levels for hemoglobin, white blood cell count (WBC), platelet count, MPV, PDW and RDW were recorded for each patient. Results: In a total 200 non-smoking healthy, 200 smoking healthy and 236 asthmatic subjects were included in the study . MPV levels were significantly lower in asthmatic subjects as compared to non-smokers (p Conclusions: The results of our study suggest that MPV may be used as a negative predictor and PDW and RDW may be as positive predictors for asthmatic subjects.

Necrotising pneumonia develops as a result of necrosis of lung parenchyma during the course of community aquired pneumonia. Long-term fever on patient with pneumonia and deterioration of clinical condition should alert suspicion. Course with cavitation, late response to treatment and no isolation with culture causes problems in treatment and differential diagnosis among diseases like tuberclosis. Here we present two cases of necrotising pneumonia which emerged while running from Syrian civil war. The first case is a female at her thirties at whom necrotising pneumonia has emerged after getting wet under rain and received treatment for three months. Objective: Skin prick test (SPT) is used widely to determine the allergens in atopic patients. In this study, we aimed to determine the spectrum of aeroallergen sensitivity of atopic asthmatic subjects in Sanliurfa district. Methods: We evaluated clinical, demographic findings and SPT results of 95 male and 162 female in a total 257 patients who had asthma and allergic symptoms. Results: Most common allergens causing a sensitivity reaction detected in our clinic were as follows; cockroach (56.8%), wheat pollen (53.3%), corn pollen (47.4%), grass pollen (36.5%), poplar tree pollen (26%), house dust mite (19.4%), pepper (16.7%) and cat dander (15.1%). Conclusion: High levels of sensitivity to wheat and corn pollens and relatively low sensitivity levels of cat dander results meet our expectations in the area of agricultural land and where pet ownership is not common. This research was conducted to determine the relationship among yield and some yield components using correlation and path coefficient analysis. The experiment was carried out in Yuzuncu Yil University Experimental Field between 2000 and 2002. In this study, 14 chickpea cultivars were used. The experiment was designed in Randomized Block Design with three replications. Positive and significant relationships were found among seed yield and plant height, number of branches, number of pods per plant, biological yield, harvest index and number of seeds per plant. Negative and non-significant relationship was determined between seed yield and 1000-seed weight. According to path coefficient analysis, there were strong direct effects of the biological yield, harvest index and number of seeds per plant on the seed yield, p.c : 0.783 and p.c: 0.441, respectively.

Calismada tane verimi, biyolojik verim, hasat indeksi, bitki boyu, basak boyu, basakta tane sayisi ve 1000 tane agirligi incelenmistir. En yuksek tane verimi 2011-12 ve 2012-13 yillarinda sirasiyla 413.3 kg/da ve 372.7 kg/da ile Cemre cesidinde bulunurken, en dusuk tane verimi 302.5 kg/da ve 300.8 kg/da ile Karacadag-98 cesidinden alinmistir. Mardin kosullarinda en uygun ekim zamaninin 10 Kasim oldugu belirlenmistir.

This research was carried out in an experiment field belonging to Kiziltepe Vocational Higher School, Mardin Artuklu University in the 2013-14 planting seasons. The experiment was executed in three repetitions according to “the Split Plots in Coincidence Blocks Design”. As material; commercial maize varieties of Dekalb 5401, Dekalb 5783, Pioneer PR32T83, and Syncero were selected. Three nitrogen doses [0, 150, and 300 kg ha-1 (ammonium nitrate)] and 80 kg ha-1 phopshorus (P2O5: TSP: triple super phosphate) were used. According to the two year results, while the highest unit field grain productivity was obtained with Syncero (9,527.2 kg ha-1) and Dekalb 5401 (9,491.5 kg ha-1), the lowest was provided with Dekalb 5783 (823.1 kg ha-1). In terms of the effect of nitrogen doses on unit field grain productivity, while the highest value was obtained from D3 application (300 kg ha-1) at 10,212.2 kg ha-1, the lowest value was obtained through the D1 control plot (0 kg ha-1) at 7,844.5 kg ha-1. The economic analysis, showed that productivity level increased as the dose rose. The highest revenue-generating dose was 300 kg ha-1 among the nitrogenous fertiliser applications. In this context, a profit of USD 2.87 was made in return for a cost of USD 1.00. As further doses should be applied for a net determination, it is difficult to estimate if this is the most profitable dose. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an important public health problem and it is associated with systemic inflammation. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is one of the markers indicating platelet activation, and there are different results in different diseases related to inflammation. As for COPD some studies found it to be high whereas others found low results. In this study, we aimed to study parameters like MPV, platelet distribution volume (PDW), red blood cell (RBC), which are studied in the complete blood count testing routinely of patients with COPD, smoking and nonsmoking subjects without chronic diseases. Data of 121 patients with COPD, 101 nonsmoking subjects and 102 smoking subjects were retrospectively enrolled. Results were statistically analyzed. Yamamoto and associates reported a case of Mycobacterium avium complex infection in a patient with a chronic empyema, which was treated successfully with pleuropneumonectomy. They stated that lung resection might be performed for the surgical treatment of M intracellulare infection with chronic empyema. Pleuropneumonectomy or lobectomy for chronic empyema, however, is very stressful. In our case, the M intracellulare infection was cleared from the sputum after thoracic fenestration, and therefore we performed a thoracoplasty with an intrathoracic muscle flap transposition. This surgical treatment without lung resection in cases not involving M intracellulare in the sputum is preferred because the procedure is less invasive, safer, and less stressful than surgical treatment with lung resection. In our case, we selected a thoracoplasty with an intrathoracic muscle flap transposition. The residual lung changed into a honeycomb lung, which was unable to expand. If the residual lung had the ability to expand, air plombage would have been a better option than thoracoplasty with respect to respiratory function. GRFG glue is a new biologic adhesive agent with a better sealing efficacy. GRFG glue has strong adhesive properties (almost 5 times that of fibrin glue). Several studies have reported the effectiveness of GRFG glue for the treatment of bronchial fistulas. Hasumi and colleagues reported the clinical experience of GRFG glue for acute empyema with bronchopleural fistula. GRFG glue is a useful agent for the treatment of bronchial fistulas.
