1. South-to-South Cooperation in Multi-Source Satellite Data for Improving Food Security

Abstract: This study aims to highlight the importance of south-to-south cooperation in remote sensing and present preliminary results from our joint project between China and South Africa, focusing on multi-sensor remote sensing data for food security. Scientometric analysis was used to demonstrate growing research output and cooperation among countries in the Global South. Furthermore, the first results of our crop classification methods were presented on a test site in the Sanjiang Plain, China. The preliminary crop classification results from this test site showed promising accuracy. South-to-south cooperation in remote sensing has the potential to address shared challenges and promote sustainable development through exchange of knowledge and resources. The ongoing joint project between China and South Africa demonstrates the benefits of such collaboration in developing robust remote sensing techniques for improved food security monitoring and decision making in the Global South.

2. M-AFDE-NET: NOVEL DEEP LEARNING-BASED BUILDING CHANGE DETECTION OF FRESHLY BUILT LOCALES FROM SATELLITE IMAGERY IN THE NILE VALLEY, EGYPT

Abstract: Urban land expansion is a defining characteristic of urbanization, necessitating the monitoring of this phenomenon and the detection of changes to promote sustainable land use and contribute to updating geospatial databases. Methods based on detecting changes in high-resolution satellite imagery have shown poor performance due to downsampling during image processing, resulting in the loss of boundary information. Furthermore, these methods struggle with complex backgrounds where the ground resembles building roofs. This paper delves into the investigation and evaluation of Freshly Built Locales (FBLs) using bi-temporal images through recently proposed computer vision networks. To address the limitations of existing approaches, we have introduced modifications to the AFDE-Net model, which include the novel residual pyramid attention fusion (RPAF) module. This enhancement enables more precise identification of intricate details in complex change detection scenarios. Our proposed model, M-AFDE-Net, has been evaluated on a newly captured dataset from the Nile Valley regions of Egypt, with a spatial resolution of 30 cm. Special attention has been given to New Mansoura and New Tiba as focal areas for analysis. The evaluation results reveal that the modified model, M-AFDE-Net, outperforms other state-of-the-art models in detecting FBLs. It achieves an impressive F1-score of approximately 89.2%, demonstrating its superiority and effectiveness.

Abstract: Marine diazotrophs convert dinitrogen (N2) gas into bioavailable nitrogen (N), supporting life in the global ocean. In 2012, the first version of the global oceanic diazotroph database (version 1) was published. Here, we present an updated version of the database (version 2), significantly increasing the number of in situ diazotrophic measurements from 13 565 to 55 286. Data points for N2 fixation rates, diazotrophic cell abundance, and nifH gene copy abundance have increased by 184 %, 86 %, and 809 %, respectively. Version 2 includes two new data sheets for the nifH gene copy abundance of non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs and cell-specific N2 fixation rates. The measurements of N2 fixation rates approximately follow a log-normal distribution in both version 1 and version 2. However, version 2 considerably extends both the left and right tails of the distribution. Consequently, when estimating global oceanic N2 fixation rates using the geometric means of different ocean basins, version 1 and version 2 yield similar rates (43–57 versus 45–63 Tg N yr−1; ranges based on one geometric standard error). In contrast, when using arithmetic means, version 2 suggests a significantly higher rate of 223±30 Tg N yr−1 (mean ± standard error; same hereafter) compared to version 1 (74±7 Tg N yr−1). Specifically, substantial rate increases are estimated for the South Pacific Ocean (88±23 versus 20±2 Tg N yr−1), primarily driven by measurements in the southwestern subtropics, and for the North Atlantic Ocean (40±9 versus 10±2 Tg N yr−1). Moreover, version 2 estimates the N2 fixation rate in the Indian Ocean to be 35±14 Tg N yr−1, which could not be estimated using version 1 due to limited data availability. Furthermore, a comparison of N2 fixation rates obtained through different measurement methods at the same months, locations, and depths reveals that the conventional 15N2 bubble method yields lower rates in 69 % cases compared to the new 15N2 dissolution method. This updated version of the database can facilitate future studies in marine ecology and biogeochemistry. 5. Pathogenic infection characteristics and risk factors for bovine respiratory disease complex based on the detection of lung pathogens in dead cattle in Northeast China

Abstract: ABSTRACT: Bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) involves multiple pathogens, shows diverse lung lesions, and is a major concern in calves. Pathogens from 160 lung samples of dead cattle from 81 cattle farms in Northeast China from 2016 to 2021 were collected to characterize the molecular epidemiology and risk factors of BRDC and to assess the major pathogens involved in bovine suppurative or caseous necrotizing pneumonia. The BRDC was diagnosed by autopsy, pathogen isolation, PCR, or reverse transcription-PCR detection, and gene sequencing. More than 18 species of pathogens, including 491 strains of respiratory pathogens, were detected. The positivity rate of bacteria in the 160 lung samples was 31.77%, including Trueperella pyogenes (9.37%), Pasteurella multocida (8.35%), Histophilus somni (4.48%), Mannheimia haemolytica (2.44%), and other bacteria (7.13%). The positivity rate of Mycoplasma spp. was 38.9%, including M. bovis (7.74%), M. dispar (11.61%), M. bovirhinis (7.94%), M. alkalescens (6.11%), M. arginini (0.81%), and undetermined species (4.68%). Six species of viruses were detected with a positivity rate of 29.33%, including bovine herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1; 13.25%), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV; 5.50%), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV; 4.89%), bovine parainfluenza virus type-3 (BPIV-3; 4.28%), bovine parainfluenza virus type-5 (1.22%), and bovine coronavirus (2.24%). Mixed infections among bacteria (73.75%), viruses (50%), and M. bovis (23.75%) were the major features of BRDC in these cattle herds. The risk analysis for multi-pathogen co-infection indicated that BoHV-1 and H. somni; BVDV and M. bovis, P. multocida, T. pyogenes, or Mann. haemolytica; BPIV-3 and M. bovis; BRSV and M. bovis, P. multocida, or T. pyogenes; P. multocida and T. pyogenes; and M. bovis and T. pyogenes or H. somni showed co-infection trends. A survey on molecular epidemiology indicated that the occurrence rate of currently prevalent pathogens in BRDC was 46.15% (6/13) for BoHV-1.2b and 53.85% (7/13) for BoHV-1.2c, 53.3% (8/15) for BVDV-1b and 46.7% (7/15) for BVDV-1d, 29.41% (5/17) for BPIV-3a and 70.59% (12/17) for BPIV-3c, 100% (2/2) for BRSV gene subgroup IX, 91.67% (33/36) for P. multocida serotype A, and 8.33% (3/36) for P. multocida serotype D. Our research discovered new subgenotypes for BoHV-1.2c, BRSV gene subgroup IX, and P. multocida serotype D in China's cattle herds. In the BRDC cases, bovine suppurative or caseous necrotizing pneumonia was highly related to BVDV [odds ratio (OR) = 4.18; 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 1.6–10.7], M. bovis (OR = 2.35; 95% CI: 1.1–4.9), H. somni (OR = 8.2; 95% CI: 2.6–25.5), and T. pyogenes (OR = 13.92; 95% CI: 5.8–33.3). The risk factor analysis found that dairy calves 3 mo (OR = 5.39; 95% CI: 2.7–10.7) were more susceptible to BRDC. Beef cattle were more susceptible to bovine suppurative or caseous necrotizing pneumonia than dairy cattle (OR = 2.32; 95% CI: 1.2–4.4). These epidemiological data and the new pathogen subgenotypes will be helpful in formulating strategies of control and prevention, developing new vaccines, improving clinical differential diagnosis by necropsy, predicting the most likely pathogen, and justifying antimicrobial use.

Abstract: 3D Real Scene is an important part of new infrastructure construction, which provides a unified spatial base for economic and social development and informatization of various departments. According to the demand of real 3D Real Scene digital construction, this paper aims to study the method of indoor and outdoor structured monomer reconstruction of city 3D Real Scene, develop digital twin platform, and strive to lead the development of 3D Real Scene. The main research contents of this paper are as follows: 1) Spatio-temporal-spectral-angular remote sensing observation system and data fusion model; 2) Rapid construction method of vector monomer 3D model of indoor and outdoor entity object; 3) 3D structural reconstruction technology of urban component level based on vector images; 4) A universal digital twins platform, LuojiaDT. The technologies we have developed have been widely used in the national 3D Real Scene construction of China, including smart city, smart transportation, cultural heritage protection, public security and police, urban underground pipe network, indoor and outdoor location service. This research will promote the continuous development of digital twins technology.

7. Controlling factors on the global distribution of a representative marine non-cyanobacterial diazotroph phylotype (Gamma A)

Abstract: Non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs may be contributors to global marine N2 fixation, although the factors controlling their distribution are unclear. Here, we explored what controls the distribution of the most sampled non-cyanobacterial diazotroph phylotype, Gamma A, in the global ocean. First, we represented Gamma A abundance by its nifH quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) copies reported in the literature and analyzed its relationship to climatological biological and environmental conditions. There was a positive correlation between the Gamma A abundance and local net primary production (NPP), and the maximal observed Gamma A abundance increased with NPP and became saturated when NPP reached ∼ 400 mg C m−2 d−1. Additionally, an analysis using a multivariate generalized additive model (GAM) revealed that the Gamma A abundance increased with light intensity but decreased with increasing iron concentration. The GAM also showed a weak but significant positive relationship between Gamma A abundance and silicate concentration, as well as a substantial elevation of Gamma A abundance when the nitrate concentration was very high (≳ 10 µM). Using the GAM, these climatological factors together explained 43 % of the variance in the Gamma A abundance. Second, in addition to the climatological background, we found that Gamma A abundance was elevated in mesoscale cyclonic eddies in high-productivity (climatological NPP > 400 mg m−2 d−1) regions, implying that Gamma A can respond to mesoscale features and benefit from nutrient inputs. Overall, our results suggest that Gamma A tends to inhabit ocean environments with high productivity and low iron concentrations and therefore provide insight into the niche differentiation of Gamma A from cyanobacterial diazotrophs, which are generally most active in oligotrophic ocean regions and need a sufficient iron supply, although both groups prefer well-lit surface waters. More sampling on Gamma A and other non-cyanobacterial diazotroph phylotypes is needed to reveal the controlling mechanisms of heterotrophic N2 fixation in the ocean.

9. Intercalation pseudocapacitance in electrochemical energy storage: recent advances in fundamental understanding and materials development

Abstract: Electrochemical energy storage (EES) plays an important role in personal electronics, electrified vehicles, and smart grid. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and supercapacitors (SCs) are two of the most important EES devices that have been widely used in our daily life. The energy density of LIBs is heavily dependent on the electrode capacity, in which the charge storage proceeds mainly in three different mechanisms, that is, alloying, conversion, and intercalation. Conventional LIBs show high energy density, but the rate performance is usually unfavorable. As a comparison, the SCs, which store energy based on electrochemical double layer capacitance (EDLC) or surface Faradaic redox pseudocapacitance, shows outstanding rate performance, but the energy density is still much worse than LIBs. Recently, intercalation pseudocapacitance appears as a new type of EES mechanism which stores energy into the bulk of electrode through a battery-like intercalation process but behaves similar to an electrode of SCs (fast reaction kinetics). Such intercalation pseudocapacitance can effectively narrow the gap between SCs and LIBs in energy density and power density, providing a new opportunity for the development of advanced energy storage system with both high energy density and power density. Up to now, more and more reports about intercalation pseudocapacitive materials have been appeared in literature, however, a systematic analysis of the recent development in intercalation pseudocapacitance is still lack. In this article, we provided an in-time review of the recent progress in the understanding of intercalation pseudocapacitive process and the development of related electrode materials for EES. Importance was paid to the difference between Faradaic surface-redox pseudocapacitance and intercalation pseudocapacitance, as well between battery-like intercalation and pseudocapacitive intercalation. Both cation interaction (Li+ and Na+) and oxygen anion intercalation pseudocapacitance was summarized.

Abstract: This paper takes Guangxi coastal zone as the study area, following the standards of land use type, divides the coastal zone of ecological landscape into seven kinds of natural wetland landscape types such as woodland, farmland, grassland, water, urban land and wetlands. Using TM data of 2000–2015 such 15 years, with the CART decision tree algorithm, for analysis the characteristic of types of landscape’s remote sensing image and build decision tree rules of landscape classification to extract information classification. Analyzing of the evolution process of the landscape pattern in Guangxi coastal zone in nearly 15 years, we may understand the distribution characteristics and change rules. Combined with the natural disaster data, we use of landscape index and the related risk interference degree and construct ecological risk evaluation model in Guangxi coastal zone for ecological risk assessment results of Guangxi coastal zone.

11. URBAN EXPANSION: A GEO-SPATIAL APPROACH FOR TEMPORAL MONITORING OF LOSS OF AGRICULTURAL LAND

Abstract: This paper presents some preliminary results from research on monitoring the urban growth of Shenzhen in China. Agriculture is still the pillar of national economies in many countries including China. Thus, agriculture contributes to population growth. Population growth follows either exponential or logistic growth models. These models can be examined using a time-series of geospatial data, mainly historical earth observation imagery from satellites such as LANDSAT. Such multitemporal data may provide insights into settlement analysis as well as on population dynamics and hence, quantify the loss of agricultural land. In this study, LANDSAT data of ten dates, at approximately five yearly intervals from 1977 to 2017 were used. The remote sensing techniques used for analysis of data for 40 years were image selection, then followed by geometric and radiometric corrections and mosaicking. Also, classification, remote sensing image fusion, and change detection methods were used. This research extracted the information on the amount, direction, and speed of urbanization, and hence, the number of hectares of agricultural land lost due to urban expansion. Several specific elements were used in the descriptive model of landscape changes and population dynamics of the city of Shenzhen in China. These elements are: i) quantify the urban changes, from a small town (37.000 people in the early 1970’s) to the megalopolis of around 20 million habitants today. ii) Examining the rate of urban extension on the loss of agricultural landscape and population growth. iii) The loss of food production was analysed against the economic growth in the region. iv) The aspects of loss of agricultural land, area of built-up urban land, and increase in population are studied quantitatively, by the temporal analysis of earth observation geospatial data. The experimental results from this study show that the proposed method is effective in determining loss of agricultural land in any city due to urbanization. It can be used by town planner and other stakeholders such as land surveyors and agriculture experts to mitigate the mushrooming of unplanned settlements in many town / villages and loss of land for agriculture which might cause problems in food security.

Abstract: This paper analyses a large number of factors related to the influence degree of urban waterlogging in depth, and constructs the Stack Autoencoder model to explore the relationship between the waterlogging points’ influence degree and their surrounding spatial data, which will be used to realize the comprehensive analysis in the waterlogging influence on the work and life of residents. According to the data of rainstorm waterlogging in 2016 July in Wuhan, the model is validated. The experimental results show that the model has higher accuracy than the traditional linear regression model. Based on the experimental model and waterlogging points distribution information in Wuhan over the years, the influence degree of different waterlogging points can be quantitatively described, which will be beneficial to the formulation of urban flood control measures and provide a reference for the design of city drainage pipe network.

Abstract: Adjuvant therapy; Breast cancer; Olaparib Terapia adyuvante; Cáncer de mama; Olaparib Teràpia adjuvant; Càncer de mama; Olaparib Background The randomized, double-blind OlympiA trial compared 1 year of the oral poly(adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase inhibitor, olaparib, to matching placebo as adjuvant therapy for patients with pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in germline BRCA1 or BRCA2 (gBRCA1/2pv) and high-risk, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative, early breast cancer (EBC). The first pre-specified interim analysis (IA) previously demonstrated statistically significant improvement in invasive disease-free survival (IDFS) and distant disease-free survival (DDFS). The olaparib group had fewer deaths than the placebo group, but the difference did not reach statistical significance for overall survival (OS). We now report the pre-specified second IA of OS with updates of IDFS, DDFS, and safety. Patients and methods One thousand eight hundred and thirty-six patients were randomly assigned to olaparib or placebo following (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy if indicated. Endocrine therapy was given concurrently with study medication for hormone receptor-positive cancers. Statistical significance for OS at this IA required P < 0.015. Results With a median follow-up of 3.5 years, the second IA of OS demonstrated significant improvement in the olaparib group relative to the placebo group [hazard ratio 0.68; 98.5% confidence interval (CI) 0.47-0.97; P = 0.009]. Four-year OS was 89.8% in the olaparib group and 86.4% in the placebo group (Δ 3.4%, 95% CI −0.1% to 6.8%). Four-year IDFS for the olaparib group versus placebo group was 82.7% versus 75.4% (Δ 7.3%, 95% CI 3.0% to 11.5%) and 4-year DDFS was 86.5% versus 79.1% (Δ 7.4%, 95% CI 3.6% to 11.3%), respectively. Subset analyses for OS, IDFS, and DDFS demonstrated benefit across major subgroups. No new safety signals were identified including no new cases of acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome. Conclusion With 3.5 years of median follow-up, OlympiA demonstrates statistically significant improvement in OS with adjuvant olaparib compared with placebo for gBRCA1/2pv-associated EBC and maintained improvements in the previously reported, statistically significant endpoints of IDFS and DDFS with no new safety signals. Abstract: Building the fine 3D model from outdoor to indoor is becoming a necessity for protecting the cultural tourism resources. However, the existing 3D modelling technologies mainly focus on outdoor areas. Actually, a 3D model should contain detailed descriptions of both its appearance and its internal structure, including architectural components. In this paper, a portable four-camera stereo photographic measurement system is developed, which can provide a professional solution for fast 3D data acquisition, processing, integration, reconstruction and visualization. Given a specific scene or object, it can directly collect physical geometric information such as positions, sizes and shapes of an object or a scene, as well as physical property information such as the materials and textures. On the basis of the information, 3D model can be automatically constructed. The system has been applied to the indooroutdoor seamless modelling of distinctive architecture existing in two typical cultural tourism zones, that is, Tibetan and Qiang ethnic minority villages in Sichuan Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area and Tujia ethnic minority villages in Hubei Shennongjia Nature Reserve, providing a new method and platform for protection of minority cultural characteristics, 3D reconstruction and cultural tourism.

18. Distribution of PAHs and the PAH-degrading bacteria in the deep-sea sediments of the high-latitude Arctic Ocean

Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common organic pollutants that can be transferred long distances and tend to accumulate in marine sediments. However, less is known regarding the distribution of PAHs and their natural bioattenuation in the open sea, especially the Arctic Ocean. In this report, sediment samples were collected at four sites from the Chukchi Plateau to the Makarov Basin in the summer of 2010. PAH compositions and total concentrations were examined with GC-MS. The concentrations of 16 EPA-priority PAHs varied from 2.0 to 41.6 ng g−1 dry weight and decreased with sediment depth and movement from the southern to the northern sites. Among the targeted PAHs, phenanthrene was relatively abundant in all sediments. The 16S rRNA gene of the total environmental DNA was analyzed with Illumina high-throughput sequencing (IHTS) to determine the diversity of bacteria involved in PAH degradation in situ. The potential degraders including Cycloclasticus, Pseudomonas, Halomonas, Pseudoalteromonas, Marinomonas, Bacillus, Dietzia, Colwellia, Acinetobacter, Alcanivorax, Salinisphaera and Shewanella, with Dietzia as the most abundant, occurred in all sediment samples. Meanwhile, enrichment with PAHs was initiated onboard and transferred to the laboratory for further enrichment and to obtain the degrading consortia. Most of the abovementioned bacteria in addition to Hahella, Oleispira, Oceanobacter and Hyphomonas occurred alternately as predominant members in the enrichment cultures from different sediments based on IHTS and PCR-DGGE analysis. To reconfirm their role in PAH degradation, 40 different bacteria were isolated and characterized, among which Cycloclasticus Pseudomonas showed the best degradation capability under low temperatures. Taken together, PAHs and PAH-degrading bacteria were widespread in the deep-sea sediments of the Arctic Ocean. We propose that bacteria of Cycloclasticus, Pseudomonas, Pseudoalteromonas, Halomonas, Marinomonas and Dietzia may play the most important role in PAH mineralization in situ.

21. Influence of alumina whisker or nano-carbon contents on the microstructure and mechanical properties of CuZrTiAlNi refractory high entropy alloy composites

Abstract: High-entropy alloy composites were fabricated by ball milling, cold isostatic pressing and microwave sintering to which were added varied contents of Al2O3 whiskers, La-Ce, and carbon nanotubes-graphene, respectively. The structure and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and a microhardness tester. The high-entropy alloy and composites show amorphous phases and some crystalline phases. Accordingly, the addition of the reinforcement phase can refine the grain size. The formation mechanism of the phase is mainly related to the factors of mixing entropy, enthalpy, differences in atomic size, and the structure and property of the elements. The hardness of the composites is higher than that of the alloy (437.5 HV), and those composites reinforced by 0.5 wt.-% nanotubes- 0.5 wt.-% graphene are the highest (593.99 HV). The fracture morphology of the Al2O3 whisker reinforced composite shows a river pattern, indicating brittle cleavage. According to the research results, it can be concluded that the strengthening mechanism of the high entropy alloy composites mainly reflects fine grain strengthening and load transfer, and the toughening mechanism mainly crack bridging and a pulling out of the reinforcing phase.

Abstract: KAMILLA is a single-arm safety study of trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive advanced breast cancer (BC; NCT01702571). We report the final analysis of cohort 2 (Asia) within the context of published cohort 1 (Global) findings.Patients had HER2-positive, locally advanced, or metastatic BC progressing after chemotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy or ≤6 months after adjuvant therapy. The primary objective was to further evaluate T-DM1 (3.6 mg/kg, administered intravenously every 3 weeks) safety/tolerability, including the following adverse events of primary interest (AEPIs): grade ≥3 AEPIs (hepatic events, allergic reactions, thrombocytopenia, hemorrhage events), all grade ≥3 treatment-related AEs, and all-grade pneumonitis.KAMILLA enrolled 2185 patients (cohort 1, n = 2003; cohort 2, n = 182) as of 31 July 2019. Of these, 2002 and 181 per cohort were treated and included in the safety population. Approximately 70% of patients had two or more previous treatment lines in the metastatic setting. Median T-DM1 exposure was 5.6 and 5.0 months per cohort; median follow-up was 20.6 and 15.1 months. The overall AEPI rate was higher in cohort 2 (93/181; 51.4%) versus cohort 1 (462/2002; 23.1%), mostly driven by a higher grade ≥3 thrombocytopenia rate in cohort 2. In cohort 2, grade ≥3 thrombocytopenia was not associated with grade ≥3 hemorrhagic events and most (128/138) fully resolved. Grade ≥3 treatment-related AEPI rates were 18.4% (cohort 1) and 48.6% (cohort 2), the latter mainly due to thrombocytopenia. Any-grade pneumonitis rates were 1.0% and 2.2%. No new safety signals were identified. Median (95% confidence interval) progression-free survival was 6.8 months (5.8-7.6 months) and 5.7 months (5.5-7.0 months) in cohorts 1 and 2, respectively; median overall survival was 27.2 months (25.5-28.7 months) and 29.5 months (21.1 months to non-estimable). In both cohorts, median progression-free survival and overall survival decreased with increasing prior therapy lines.Cohort 2 results aligned with previous findings in Asian patients, supporting the manageable safety profile and use of T-DM1 in advanced BC.

Abstract: In the current study, two new mixed-ligand coordination polymers with the chemical formulae of {[Cu(oba)(4-bpdb)]·CH3OH}n (1) and {[Co3(oba)3(4-bpdb)(DMF)2]·4H2O}n (2) (H2oba = 4,4'-oxybis-benzoate, 4-bpdb = 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene) are synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Both structures are analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction along with the elemental analysis. Their prevention activity on the acute kidney injury in patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage is evaluated and the protentional mechanism is revealed. Firstly, the Nagl content in urine is measured. Secondly, the inflammatory response in glomerular epithelial cells is detected by real-time RT-PCR.

Abstract: We study the stability property of a simple periodic solution of an autonomous neutral functional differential equation (NFDE) of the form $${d\over dt} D(x_t) = f (x_t).$$ A new proof based on local integral manifold theory and the implicit function theorem is given for the classical result that a simple periodic orbit of the equation above is asymptotically orbitally stable with asymptotic phase. The technique used overcomes the difficulty that the solution operator of a NFDE does not smooth as $t$ increases.

Abstract: To investigate the anti-explosion behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete (RC) beam subjected to blast load, the ANSYS/LS-DYNA finite element analysis software was applied. Based on anti-explosion test results, the effects of reinforcement strength grade, reinforcement ratio and stirrup ratio on dynamic response, failure mode, resistance curve and ductility of RC beams under uniform blast load were studied. The anti-explosion performance of RC beam can be effectively improved by increasing the strength grade of the high-strength reinforcement. When the shear capacity is high enough, the ultimate capacity of high-strength RC beam can be significantly enhanced by increasing its reinforcement ratio. Anti-explosion performance may deteriorate due to the change of failure modes when the reinforcement ratio is increased to a certain extent. Increasing stirrup ratio can improve the shear capacity of high-strength RC beam to guarantee the full utilization of the advantage of high flexural capacity. For high-strength RC beam with sufficiently shear capacity, the further increase of stirrup ratio has a slight effect on the anti-explosion ability.

Abstract: Extreme significant wave heights are assessed in the South China Sea (SCS), as assessments of wave heights are crucial for coastal and offshore engineering. Two significant factors include the initial database and assessment method. The initial database is a basis for assessment, and the assessment method is used to extrapolate appropriate return-significant wave heights during a given period. In this study, a 40-year (1975–2014) hindcast of tropical cyclone waves is used to analyse the extreme significant wave height, employing the peak over threshold (POT) method with the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) model. The peak exceedances over a sufficiently large value (i.e. threshold) are fitted; thus, the return-significant wave heights are highly dependent on the threshold. To determine a suitable threshold, the sensitivity of return-significant wave heights and the characteristics of tropical cyclone waves are studied. The sample distribution presents a separation that distinguishes the high sample from the low sample, and this separation is within the stable threshold range. Because the variation in return-significant wave heights in this range is generally small and the separation is objectively determined by the track and intensity of the tropical cyclone, the separation is selected as a suitable threshold for extracting the extreme sample in the tropical cyclone wave. The asymptotic tail approximation and estimation uncertainty show that the selection is reasonable.

Abstract: The effects of pre-harvest and post-harvest applications of gibberellin (GA3) at different concentrations of 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 g L(‑1) on appearance quality of ‘Guifei’ mango were investigated. The results showed that: (1) When application with GA3 during pre-harvest, lower GA3 treatments could delay the change of a* value, inhibit degradation of chlorophyll and the accumulation of carotenoid and anthocyanin, and decrease the activities of chlorophyllase (Chlase) and chalcone isomerase (CHI). However, higher concentration (>1.0 g L(‑1)) treatment could result in incomplete change in peel color until ripening. (2) When application with GA3 during post-harvest, the degradation of chlorophyll, the synthesis of anthocyanin and carotenoid, and the change of peel color were retarded greatly by GA3 treatment. Thus, the higher concentration (>2.0 g L(‑1)) could make mangoes not turning color completely at the end of storage period. Therefore, it is suggested that unsuitable GA3 concentration applied during pre-harvest (>1.0 g L(‑1)) or post-harvest (>2.0 g L(‑1)) had a negative influence on the appearance quality of ‘Guifei’ mangos.

Abstract: Surgery is becoming more practical and effective than conservative treatment in improving the poor outcomes of patients with breast cancer liver metastasis (BCLM). However, there is no generally acknowledged set of standards for identifying BCLM candidates who will benefit from surgery. Between January 2011 and September 2018, 67 female BCLM patients who underwent partial hepatectomy were selected for analysis in the present study. Prognostic factors after hepatectomy were determined. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify predictors of overall survival (OS) and intrahepatic recurrence-free survival (IHRFS). The 1-, 3- and 5-year OS of patients treated with surgery was 93.5%, 73.7% and 32.2%, respectively, with a median survival time of 57.59 months. The Pringle manoeuvre [hazard radio (HR) = 0.117, 95% CI0.015–0.942, p = 0.044] and an increased interval between breast surgery and BCLM diagnosis (HR0.178, 95% CI 0.037–0.869, p = 0.033) independently predicted improved overall survival for BCLM patients. The 1-, 2- and 3-year IHRFS of patients who underwent surgery was 62.8, 32.6% and 10.9%, respectively, with a median intrahepatic recurrence-free survival time of 13.47 months. Moderately differentiated tumours (HR 0.259, 95% CI 0.078–0.857, p = 0.027) and the development of liver metastasis more than 2 years after breast surgery (HR 0.270, 95% CI 0.108–0.675, p = 0.005) might be predictors of increased IHRFS. An interval of more than 2 years between breast cancer surgery and liver metastasis seems to be an indication of liver surgery in BCLM patients. The Pringle manoeuvre and moderately differentiated tumours are potential predictors associated with OS and IHRFS, respectively, as benefits from liver resection. Studies with increased sample sizes are warranted to validate our results.
