Abstract

Abstract We report multi-differential measurements of strange hadron production ranging from mid- to target-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at a center-of-momentum energy per nucleon pair of s NN $$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 3 GeV with the STAR experiment at RHIC. K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ meson and Λ hyperon yields are measured via their weak decay channels. Collision centrality and rapidity dependences of the transverse momentum spectra and particle ratios are presented. Particle mass and centrality dependence of the average transverse momenta of Λ and K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ are compared with other strange particles, providing evidence of the development of hadronic rescattering in such collisions. The 4π yields of each of these strange hadrons show a consistent centrality dependence. Discussions on radial flow, the strange hadron production mechanism, and properties of the medium created in such collisions are presented together with results from hadronic transport and thermal model calculations.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the expression pattern and clinical significance of circ_001680 in gastric carcinoma (GC) process.Circ_001680 levels in 40 pairs of GC and paracancerous ones were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The relationship between circ_001680 and GC clinicopathological parameters was analyzed. AGS and SGC-7901 cells were used for constructing circ_001680 knockdown models by shRNA transfection. Proliferative and metastatic abilities in GC cells with circ_001680 knockdown were examined by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and transwell assay, respectively. Dual-Luciferase reporter assay was conducted to clarify the interaction between circ_001680 and MAP2. Their co-regulation on GC process was detected through rescue experiments.Circ_001680 was highly expressed in GC tissues and cell lines. High level of circ_001680 predicted high incidences of lymphatic and distant metastasis, and poor prognosis in GC patients. Knockdown of circ_001680 suppressed proliferative and metastatic abilities in AGS and SGC-7901 cells. MAP2 was the target gene binding circ_001680, which was lowly expressed in GC. In addition, MAP2 was negatively correlated to circ_001680. Knockdown of MAP2 could abolish the suppressed proliferative and metastatic abilities in GC cells with circ_001680 knockdown.Circ_001680 is highly expressed in GC tissues and closely related to metastasis and prognosis in GC patients, which promotes the proliferative and metastatic abilities in GC cells by negatively interacting with MAP2.

Abstract

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is a phenomenon that arises from the QCD anomaly in the presence of an external magnetic field. The experimental search for its evidence has been one of the key goals of the physics program of the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. The STAR Collaboration has previously presented the results of a blind analysis of isobar collisions (_{44}^{96}Ru+_{44}^{96}Ru, _{40}^{96}Zr+_{40}^{96}Zr) in the search for the CME. The isobar ratio (Y) of CME-sensitive observable, charge separation scaled by elliptic anisotropy, is close to but systematically larger than the inverse multiplicity ratio, the naive background baseline. This indicates the potential existence of a CME signal and the presence of remaining nonflow background due to two- and three-particle correlations, which are different between the isobars. In this postblind analysis, we estimate the contributions from those nonflow correlations as a background baseline to Y, utilizing the isobar data as well as Heavy Ion Jet Interaction Generator simulations. This baseline is found consistent with the isobar ratio measurement, and an upper limit of 10% at 95% confidence level is extracted for the CME fraction in the charge separation measurement in isobar collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV.

Abstract

Thermoluminescence (TL) and radioluminescence (RL) spectra of the long-lasting phosphorescence of SrA12O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ with A1N addition and commercially used SrA12O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ were compared. Their spectra were slowly recorded over the temperature range from 25 to 673 K (400 °C). A1N offers a higher temperature TL peak, which should lengthen the phosphor lifetime. However, both TL and RL, especially that below room temperature, reveal that there are additional decay paths for the samples of SrA12O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ with A1N additions. These new defect sites reduce the phosphor efficiency. Some speculative models of potential sites are proposed and discussed. In addition, discontinuous intensity changes have been observed for both sample types in TL and RL spectra, which are assigned to the transitions of embedded impurity phases. The justification for this model is explained. Suggestions for future experimentation are also considered.

Abstract

Abstract We report a new measurement of the production of electrons from open heavy-flavor hadron decays (HFEs) at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.7) in Au+Au collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 200 GeV. Invariant yields of HFEs are measured for the transverse momentum range of 3.5 < p T < 9 GeV/c in various configurations of the collision geometry. The HFE yields in head-on Au+Au collisions are suppressed by approximately a factor of 2 compared to that in p + p collisions scaled by the average number of binary collisions, indicating strong interactions between heavy quarks and the hot and dense medium created in heavy-ion collisions. Comparison of these results with models provides additional tests of theoretical calculations of heavy quark energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract

Abstract Partons traversing the strongly interacting medium produced in heavy-ion collisions are expected to lose energy depending on their color charge and mass. We measure the nuclear modification factors for charm- and bottom-decay electrons, defined as the ratio of yields, divided by the number of binary nucleon–nucleon collisions, in $$\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}}=200$$ s NN = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions to p+p collisions ( $$R_{\textrm{AA}}$$ R AA ), or in central to peripheral Au+Au collisions ( $$R_{\textrm{CP}}$$ R CP ). We find the bottom-decay electron $$R_{\textrm{AA}}$$ R AA and $$R_{\textrm{CP}}$$ R CP to be significantly higher than those of charm-decay electrons. Model calculations including mass-dependent parton energy loss in a strongly coupled medium are consistent with the measured data. These observations provide evidence of mass ordering of charm and bottom quark energy loss when traversing through the strongly coupled medium created in heavy-ion collisions.

The deconfined quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions enables the exploration of the fundamental properties of matter under extreme conditions. Noncentral collisions can produce strong magnetic fields on the order of 10^{18} G, which offers a probe into the electrical conductivity of the QGP. In particular, quarks and antiquarks carry opposite charges and receive contrary electromagnetic forces that alter their momenta. This phenomenon can be manifested in the collective motion of final-state particles, specifically in the rapidity-odd directed flow, denoted as v_{1}(y). Here, we present the charge-dependent measurements of dv_{1}/dy near midrapidities for π^{±}, K^{±}, and p(p[over ¯]) in Au+Au and isobar (_{44}^{96}Ru+_{44}^{96}Ru and _{40}^{96}Zr+_{40}^{96}Zr) collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV, and in Au+Au collisions at 27 GeV, recorded by the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The combined dependence of the v_{1} signal on collision system, particle species, and collision centrality can be qualitatively and semiquantitatively understood as several effects on constituent quarks. While the results in central events can be explained by the u and d quarks transported from initial-state nuclei, those in peripheral events reveal the impacts of the electromagnetic field on the QGP. Our data put valuable constraints on the electrical conductivity of the QGP in theoretical calculations.

Abstract

The fluctuation of the electron temperature has been measured by using the electron cyclotron emission imaging in the Hefei Tokamak-7 (HT-7) plasma. The electron temperature fluctuation with a broadband spectrum shows that it propagates in the electron diamagnetic drift direction, and the mean poloidal wave-number θ is calculated to be about 1.58 cm−1, or θρs ≈ 0.34. It indicates that the fluctuation should come from the electron drift wave turbulence. The linear global scaling of the electron temperature fluctuation with the gradient of electron temperature is consistent with the mixing length scale qualitatively. Evolution of spectrum of the fluctuation during the sawtooth oscillation phases is investigated, and the fluctuation is found to increase with the gradient of electron temperature increasing during most phases of the sawtooth oscillation. The results indicate that the electron temperature gradient is probably the driver of the fluctuation enhancement. The steady heat flux driven by electron temperature fluctuation is estimated and compared with the results from power balance estimation.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of rituximab combined with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) in Chinese patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The study comprised a retrospective analysis of patients treated at a single center. Patients received four to six infusions of rituximab (375 mg/m(2) per dose) on day 1 of each cycle of CHOP chemotherapy. CHOP was initiated on day 3 of each cycle; cycles were repeated at 21-day intervals. A total of 82 patients with a median age of 45 years (range 18-76 years) was included. The overall response (OR) and complete response (CR) rates were 90.2 and 70.7%, respectively. The estimated 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 56.4 +/- 8.3% and 74.1 +/- 7.4%, respectively. Patients with International Prognostic Index (IPI) scoresor = 2 had significantly higher OR, CR, PFS, and OS rates (p = 0.01, p = 0.02, p = 0.01, p0.001, respectively) compared with patients with IPI scores2. The hematologic toxicity was mild. Five patients with a history of chronic hepatitis B experienced a reactivation of viral hepatitis. The rituximab-CHOP combination was effective and well tolerated in Chinese patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL.

Abstract

Electron cyclotron emission imaging system in the frequency range of 95 GHz-125 GHz is going to be constructed for a two-dimensional diagnosis of the electron temperature profiles and fluctuations on the HT-7 Tokamak. The optical design for the ECEI diagnostic system is completed. Because of the superconducting technology used in HT-7, the vacuum chamber is rather thick (630 mm), the height of the horizontal windows is limited (maximum 450 mm), which constrains greatly the ECE imaging Gaussian beam that passing through the windows. We here comes to make a design compromise between the number of the beams that can pass through the windows and the spatial resolution (around 1.1 cm). We also find that due to the field curvature of the optical system, the gaussian beams of edge channels are always overlapped. To flatten the field curvature, it is needed to insert a concave made of a material with a low refractive index (compared with the one used in the convex). But the suitable material has not been available so far, therefore the deterioration of the resolution in some channels (e.g. the edge channels) is acceptable.

Prominent among these are microwave electron cyclotron emission imaging, microwave phase imaging interferometers, imaging microwave scattering, and microwave imaging reflectometer systems for imaging Te and ne fluctuations (both turbulent and coherent) and profiles (including transport barriers) on toroidal devices such as tokamaks, spherical tori, and stellarators. The diagnostic technology is reviewed, and typical diagnostic systems are analyzed. Representative experimental results obtained with these novel diagnostic systems are also presented.

Understanding the behavior of fluctuations in magnetically confined plasmas is essential to the advancement of turbulence-based transport physics. Though microwave reflectometry has proven to be an extremely useful and sensitive tool for measuring small density fluctuations in some circumstances, this technique has been shown to have limited viability for large amplitude, high kθ fluctuations and/or core measurements. To this end, a new instrument based on two-dimensional imaging reflectometry has been developed to measure density fluctuations over an extended plasma region in the TEXTOR tokamak. This technique is made possible by collecting an extended spectrum of reflected waves with large-aperture imaging optics. The purpose of present study was to assess the effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) on the immune responses of laying hens. Three hundred and sixty hens at the age of 60 weeks were randomly assigned to ten diets, which contained no oil (CK), 1%, 3%, 5% fish oil (FO); 2%, 4%, 6% linseed oil (LO) and 2%, 4%, 6% corn oil (CO). After 5 weeks of feeding experimental diets, humoral and cellular immune responses were assayed. Laying hens were injected with Sheep Red Blood Cell (SRBC) and Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) and antibody titers, which were measured on d6, d10, d14 after primary challenge and on d5, d9, d13 after secondary challenge. Concanavalin (ConA) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) -stimulated proliferation of peripheral blood and spleen lymphocytes were assessed by ( 3 H) thymidine incorporation at the week age of 5 and 10, respectively. The results showed that antibody titers in FO-fed and LO-fed laying hens were higher than that in laying hens fed CO. The proliferation response to ConA was lower in laying hens that fed oils rich in n-3 fatty acids than that in laying hens fed CO. Higher level n-3 fatty acids can improve immune functions of laying hens. In conclusion, dietary fat source and level had a significant impact on immune responses of laying hens. (Asian-Aust. J. The kinetics of crystallization from the melt is investigated for hcp Mg employing molecular dynamics simulations based on a recently developed embedded-atom-method interatomic potential. The interface mobility $(\ensuremath{\mu})$, defined as the constant of proportionality between interface velocity and undercooling, is calculated for the three high-symmetry orientations (0001), $(10\overline{1}0)$, and $(11\overline{2}0)$. The magnitudes of the interface mobilities are found to lie in the range of $40--80\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{cm}∕\mathrm{s}∕\mathrm{K}$. The mobilities ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{10\overline{1}0}$ and ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{11\overline{2}0}$ are found to be of comparable magnitude and approximately 1.7 times larger than ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{0001}$. The calculated dependence of $\ensuremath{\mu}$ on interface normal is discussed within the framework of the kinetic density-functional theory (DFT) formulation of Mikheev and Chernov.

Two dual dipole antennas have been designed in the frequency range of 85-95 GHz and 100-135 GHz for use as imaging array elements for magnetic fusion plasma microwave imaging reflectometry (MIR) and electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI) diagnostics, respectively. The antenna pattern is of primary importance for these applications, with emphasis on clean antenna patterns and low sidelobe levels for low interchannel crosstalk, tight channel spacing to minimize interchannel spacing in the plasma, and wide instantaneous bandwidth for real time 2D imaging. The extremely high temperature of the imaged plasma (>10 million degrees), means that a low receiver noise temperature is not critical as long as it is sufficiently low (/spl les/20000 degrees) to facilitate absolute calibration. The simulated and measured antenna patterns are presented in this paper.

High resolution (temporal and spatial), two-dimensional images of electron temperature fluctuations during sawtooth oscillations were employed to study driven reconnection processes in magnetically confined toroidal plasmas. The combination of kink and local pressure driven instabilities leads to an "X-point" reconnection process that is localized in the toroidal and poloidal planes. The reconnection is not always confined to the magnetic surfaces with minimum energy. The heat transport process from the core is demonstrated to be highly collective rather than stochastic.

Diagnostic systems for fluctuation measurements in plasmas have, of necessity, evolved from simple 1-D systems to multi-dimensional systems due to the complexity of turbulence physics of plasmas in toroidal devices illustrated by advanced numerical simulations. Using the significant advancements in millimeter wave imaging technology, Microwave Imaging Reflectometry (MIR) and Electron Cyclotron Emission Imaging (ECEI), capable of simultaneously measuring density and temperature fluctuations are developed. Since both systems require large collection optics for the reflected waves from the "cut-off layer" in the MIR system and vertically (poloidally) extended emissions in ECEI system and since both systems operate in a similar microwave range in most of toroidal devices (e.g. the MIR frequency range is /spl sim/89 GHz and ECEI ranges from 95 to 130 GHz for TEXTOR), it is feasible to combine the two systems which utilize state-of-the-art millimeter-wave planar imaging arrays positioned at the focal point of the detection system to form an image. The detailed testing of the optical system for MIR/ECEI was established with known targets (corrugated metal surfaces). The new 2-D ECE Imaging system (with a total of 128 channels), installed on TEXTOR in December, 2003, combines both techniques to provide a true 2-D imaging of T/sub e/ fluctuation such as "sawtooth crash" near q/spl sim/1 surface. In this paper, a brief review of the imaging diagnostics for turbulence study, combined MIR/ECEI system design description, laboratory testing details of the MIR/ECEI system and multichannel wideband IF technology are presented, together with the progress of subsequent experimental campaigns on TEXTOR plasmas.

The MIR system was installed on TEXTOR and the first experiment was performed in September, 2003. Subsequent MIR campaigns have yielded poloidally resolved spectra and assessments of poloidal velocity. The new 2-D ECE Imaging system (with a total of 128 channels), installed on TEXTOR in December, 2003, successfully captured a true 2-D images of Te fluctuations of m=1 oscillation (''sawteeth'') near the q {approx} 1 surface for the first time.

Using the recent significant advancements in millimeter wave imaging technology, microwave imaging reflectometry (MIR) and electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI), simultaneously measuring density and temperature fluctuations, have been developed for Toroidal EXperiment for Technology Oriented Research (TEXTOR). The MIR system was installed on Textor and the experiment was performed in September, 2003. Subsequent MIR campaigns have yielded poloidally resolved spectra and assessments of poloidal velocity. Abstract

Summary form only given. An exciting tool for the study and visualization of plasma turbulence is presently under development for the TEXTOR-94 tokamak. This system combines a high resolution electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI) diagnostic with an innovative microwave imaging reflectometer (MIR) diagnostic for the simultaneous localized measurement of electron temperature T. and electron density n/sub e/ fluctuations in the tokamak core. The ECEI diagnostic images second harmonic cyclotron radiation from the optically thick plasma onto a 1-D array, thereby forming an image of the T/sub e/ profile and fluctuations associated with the emission layer. The MIR diagnostic images radiation reflected from the plasma cutoff layer onto a similar 1-D array, thus forming an image of n/sub e/ fluctuations at the reflecting layer. Both diagnostics are capable of forming 2-D images of plasma turbulence by varying the frequency of the probing (for MIR) or received (for ECEI) signals. Adjustment of the reflectometer probing frequency permits the reflecting layer to be positioned coincident with the ECEI emission layer, thereby simultaneously sampling both T/sub e/ and n/sub e/ fluctuations over an extended surface of the TEXTOR-94 plasma. Such data will permit the visualization of complicated 2-D and/or 3-D structures which is essential for definitive comparisons to be made with the predictions of gyrokinetic computer simulations. In addition, the system will also be employed in the study of a number of MM phenomena such as plasma filament formation, magnetic islands and internal transport barriers. An overview of the simultaneous imaging diagnostic concept will be presented along with technical details and characterization measurements of the TEXTOR-94 diagnostic. The system is presently under fabrication, and will begin operation in August, 2002 when TEXTOR-94 resumes operation after the installation of a dynamic ergodic divertor.

Abstract

Significant advances in microwave and millimeter wave technology over the past decade have enabled the development of a new generation of imaging diagnostics for current and envisioned magnetic fusion devices. Prominent among these are revolutionary microwave electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI), microwave phase imaging interferometers, imaging microwave scattering and microwave imaging reflectometer (MIR) systems for imaging electron temperature and electron density fluctuations (both turbulent and coherent) and profiles (including transport barriers) on toroidal devices such as tokamaks, spherical tori, and stellarators. The diagnostic technology is reviewed, and typical diagnostic systems are analyzed. Representative experimental results obtained with these novel diagnostic systems are also presented.

Abstract

Abstract We report on the measurement of the Central Exclusive Production of charged particle pairs h + h − (h = π, K, p) with the STAR detector at RHIC in proton-proton collisions at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 200 GeV. The charged particle pairs produced in the reaction pp → p′ + h + h − + p′ are reconstructed from the tracks in the central detector and identified using the specific energy loss and the time of flight method, while the forward-scattered protons are measured in the Roman Pot system. Exclusivity of the event is guaranteed by requiring the transverse momentum balance of all four final-state particles. Differential cross sections are measured as functions of observables related to the central hadronic final state and to the forward-scattered protons. They are measured in a fiducial region corresponding to the acceptance of the STAR detector and determined by the central particles’ transverse momenta and pseudorapidities as well as by the forward-scattered protons’ momenta. This fiducial region roughly corresponds to the square of the four-momentum transfers at the proton vertices in the range 0.04 GeV2 < −t 1 , −t 2 < 0.2 GeV2, invariant masses of the charged particle pairs up to a few GeV and pseudorapidities of the centrally-produced hadrons in the range |η| < 0.7. The measured cross sections are compared to phenomenological predictions based on the Double Pomeron Exchange (DPE) model. Structures observed in the mass spectra of π + π − and K + K − pairs are consistent with the DPE model, while angular distributions of pions suggest a dominant spin-0 contribution to π + π − production. For π + π − production, the fiducial cross section is extrapolated to the Lorentz-invariant region, which allows decomposition of the invariant mass spectrum into continuum and resonant contributions. The extrapolated cross section is well described by the continuum production and at least three resonances, the f 0(980), f 2(1270) and f 0(1500), with a possible small contribution from the f 0(1370). Fits to the extrapolated differential cross section as a function of t 1 and t 2 enable extraction of the exponential slope parameters in several bins of the invariant mass of π + π − pairs. These parameters are sensitive to the size of the interaction region.

Abstract

The anomalous transport in magnetized plasmas remains to be an outstanding issue, which in large part due to the difficulty in diagnosing the small amplitude fluctuations in the high temperature plasma core1. Recent progress in fusion studies has motivated the development of advanced microwave imaging diagnostics, both to visualize the elegant three-dimensional (3-D) structures of plasma turbulence revealed by extensive computer simulations2 and to perform high spatial and temporal resolution measurement of turbulent fluctuations in the plasma core, such as Te fluctuation measurements by ECE imaging. A third motivation is the recent discovery of the problem with conventional reflectometry and the need for imaging reflectometry as an essential tool for density fluctuation measurements3. The fourth is the need to measure fine scale structures in profiles of transport significance, such as filamentation and internal transport barriers4. The focus and emphasis of this paper will therefore primarily be on the dramatic breakthroughs occurring in electron cyclotron emission imaging (ECEI) and microwave imaging reflectometry (MIR), which will ultimately permit the imaging and visualization of complicated 2-D and 3-D structures of both electron temperature and density.

Abstract

Sawtooth oscillations were investigated using an electron cyclotron emission imaging diagnostic technique on the HT-7 tokamak. High-order harmonic modes are observed in sawtooth precursors. They cause sharp pressure points, leading to the occurrence of reconnection events at more than one place, and which are not preferential on the low field side of the q ~ 1 radius at low density. The reconnection proceeds in two stages. In the first stage, a weak reconnection happens which is characterized by a slow emergence of a small amount of heat and particles through the finite openings. Subsequently, in the second stage, most of the remaining heat and particles in the core escape outward. The observations at low density indicate that high-order harmonic modes are responsible for the secondary reconnection stage, which has seldom been mentioned in reconnection model. The characteristics of the modes are then described by investigating a large number of sawteeth oscillations with different densities and qa values. It is found that when the density increases above a threshold at qa = 3.3, the m/n = 1/1 mode amplitude significantly exceeds its harmonics. The threshold decreases as qa increases.

Abstract

Analysis of the predicted amino acid sequence of Bacillus anthracis adenylyl cyclase revealed sequences with homology to consensus sequences for A- and B-type ATP binding domains found in many ATP binding proteins. Based on the analysis of nucleotide binding proteins, a conserved basic amino acid residue in the A-type consensus sequence and a conserved acidic amino acid residue in the B-type consensus sequence have been implicated in the binding of ATP. The putative ATP binding sequences in the B. anthracis adenylyl cyclase possess analogous lysine residues at positions 346 and 353 within two A-type consensus sequences and a glutamate residue at position 436 within a B-type consensus sequence. The two A-type consensus sequences overlap each other and have the opposite orientation. To determine whether Lys-346, Lys-353, or Glu-436 of the B. anthracis adenylyl cyclase are crucial for enzyme activity, Lys-346 and Lys-353 were replaced with methionine and Glu-436 with glutamine by oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis. Furthermore, Lys-346 was also replaced with arginine. The genes encoding the wild type and mutant adenylyl cyclases were placed under the control of the lac promoter for expression in Escherichia coli, and extracts were assayed for adenylyl cyclase activity. In all cases, a 90-kDa polypeptide corresponding to the catalytic subunit of the enzyme was detected in E. coli extracts by rabbit polyclonal antibodies raised against the purified B. anthracis adenylyl cyclase. The proteins with the Lys-346 to methionine or arginine mutations exhibited no adenylyl cyclase activity, indicating that Lys-346 in the A-type ATP binding consensus sequence plays a critical role for enzyme catalysis. Furthermore, the enzyme with the Lys-353 to methionine mutation was also inactive, suggesting that Lys-353 may also directly contribute to enzyme catalysis. In contrast, the protein with the Glu-436 to glutamine mutation retained 75% of enzyme activity, suggesting that Glu-436 in the B-type ATP binding consensus sequence may not be directly involved in enzyme catalysis. It is concluded that Lys-346 and Lys-353 in B. anthracis adenylyl cyclase may interact directly with ATP and contribute to the binding of the nucleotide to the enzyme.

Abstract

A 128 channel electron cyclotron emission imaging instrument has been routinely used to study magnetohydrodynamics physics such as m=1 and m=2 modes on the TEXTOR tokamak. As currently configured, each of the 16 mixer array elements measures plasma emission at 8 simultaneous frequencies to form a 16×8 image of electron temperature profiles and fluctuations over an area of 16cm (vertical) by 6cm (horizontal). A redesigned mixer array, coupled with new wideband electronics to be installed later this year, will increase the plasma coverage to 17cm(v)×9cm(h). The new arrangement offers increased temperature resolution together with new gain and video bandwidth controls in a highly modular configuration for ease of maintenance and facilitation of future upgrades both in frequency coverage as well as number of channels.

Abstract

A millimeter wave imaging diagnostic for simultaneous density and temperature fluctuation measurements has been developed for operation on the TEXTOR Tokamak. The system is based on the quasi-optical imaging of the radiation from the plasma onto state-of-the-art millimeter wave mixer/receiver arrays. The temperature (fluctuation) measurements are based on the observation of electron cyclotron emission from a 2D plasma area with 8/spl times/16 sample volumes of about 1 cm/sup 3/. The density fluctuation measurements are based on active probing by means of reflectometry. In this case reflections from 16 sample volumes, arranged along the cutoff surfaces are diagnosed. The combined millimeter wave imaging diagnostic offers distinct advantages above the commonly used non-imaging diagnostics.
