Salt tolerant variety BR 41 was grown in kharif 2 season by pot experiment to study the effects of salinity and potassium fertilizer on agronomic characteristics of rice (Oryza sativa L.). The agronomic parameters increased with increasing salinity up to 12 dSm-1 level but with plant height. The increase in tiller number, panicle number, shoot dry matter and total grain yield was statistically significant at 5% (LSD0.05) level, whereas the increase in 1000 grain weight was significant at 1% (LSD0.01) level. Application of potassium fertilizer at different salinity levels did not produce significant change in agronomic parameters with an exception in shoot dry matter.

Graphene has attracted great attention to researchers nowadays for its electronic, optical, and mechanical properties. A key requirement for applications is the development of industrial-scale, reliable, and inexpensive production processes. In this work, we present a scalable approach of graphene synthesis from a biomass source such as hemp bat fiber which is called hemp bast fiber derived graphene (HGr). The structure and morphology of HGr are confirmed by performing several characterization techniques such as XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and TEM analysis. Mesoporosity of the HGr is confirmed by BET surface area and BJH pore size distribution analysis.

In this study our main goal is to evaluate the role of ultrasonography (USG) for determination of placental maturity and fetal gestational age. This cross-sectional study was done at the Department of Radiology and Imaging (USG section) Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, Mymensingh from July 2008 to June 2010, where 60 patients included in this study, who was attending in the department of RadiologyImaging for transabdominal ultrasonography with early and late pregnancy related complaints. In this study among the 60 patients, the youngest one was eighteen years and oldest one was thirty-nine years old age. Thirty five percent (35.0%) patients were from 26-30 years age group. About 33 patients out of 60(55.0%) were house wives. Most of the patients were presented with amenorrhea (65.0%) 39 out of 60. Among 60 patients, 20 patients (33.3%) were in gestational age within 12-28 weeks, 20 patients (33.3%) were in gestational age within 29-36 weeks and 20 patients (33.3%) were within36 weeks gestational age. Among them, 20 patients (33.3%) had grade III placenta, 20 patients (33.3%) had grade II placenta, 12 patients (20%) had grade I placenta and 08 patients (13.3%) had grade 0 placenta. Out of 60 patients, 18 patients (30.0%) were in high risk group and 70.0% were normal. Six (6) patients (10.0%) suffered from HTN, 3 patients had RH negative (5.0%) blood group, 3(5.0%) patients suffered from APH, 3 patients suffer from DM and 3 from IUGR. In this study showed hypertension and IUGR had strong correlation with accelerated placental maturation. Maternal DM and Rh sensitization were associated with delayed maturation of the placenta. This study concludes that, USG appears to be the best imaging modality for the evaluation of placenta and its grading. USG is relatively less expensive and it is good considering the diagnostic accuracy in pregnancy profile. It is noninvasive procedure without any radiation hazards and better visualization of the lesion in different section, but this study is not a complete reflection of overall incidence and statistics regarding the ailment in our country. For this a more extensive study over a longer period covering different section of society is very much needed for better outcome.

The introduction of exotic pasture germplasm has formed the foundation of many Australian grazing systems. Scientists have searched the world for plants to improve the feedbase, amassing collections of diverse genetic material, creating genebanks that have made a large contribution to feedbase productivity. These genebanks contain a vast range of legumes, grasses, herbs and shrubs with growth habits ranging from small herbaceous plants to woody trees and life cycles from annuals to short- and long-term perennial plants. They have been collected from cool temperate to tropical climates and arid to high-rainfall zones. Hundreds of cultivars have been developed from material either collected by Australian plant breeders overseas or introduced from overseas genebanks. The collection of this germplasm has enabled plant breeders to extend the area of adaptation of species into climates, soils and systems previously considered marginal. The importance to Australian and world agriculture is increasing as plant breeders seek traits to meet the challenges of a changing climate and animal production systems. Furthermore, urbanisation, landscape degradation and political instability are making it increasingly difficult to collect pasture and forage germplasm from native grasslands in many countries. This emphasises the need to maintain and improve the capacity of the Australian Pastures Genebank (APG). The APG houses ~85 000 accessions and is a modern, online source of diversity for plant scientists around the world. This paper summarises the history of the founding genebank collections, their environment and farming systems focus, and the visionary and resourceful individuals that built them.

PurposeBlockchain technology, a key feature of the fourth industrial revolution, is receiving widespread attention and exploration around the world. Taking the coronavirus pandemic as an example, the purpose of this study to examine the application of blockchain technology from the perspective of epidemic prevention and control.Design/methodology/approachExploring multiple case studies in the Chinese context at various stages of deployment, this study documents a framework about how some of the major challenges associated with COVID-19 can be alleviated by leveraging blockchain technology.FindingsThe case studies and framework presented herein show that utilization of blockchain acts as an enabler to facilitate the containment of several COVID-19 challenges. These challenges include the following: complications associated with medical data sharing; breaches of patients' data privacy; absence of real-time monitoring tools; counterfeit medical products and non-credible suppliers; fallacious insurance claims; overly long insurance claim processes; misappropriations of funds; and misinformation, rumors and fake news.Originality/valueBlockchain is ushering in a new era of innovation that will lay the foundation for a new paradigm in health care. As there are currently insufficient studies pertaining to real-life case studies of blockchain and COVID-19 interaction, this study adds to the literature on the role of blockchain technology in epidemic control and prevention.

LS-DYNA computational simulations have been carried out to study the effect of sub-laminate stacking sequences on the transverse impact and perforation behavior of multi-layer soft ballistic armor packs (SBAP). A previously validated finite element model has been used to study the effect of transvers impact as a function of stacking sequence on the minimum perforation velocity and deformation cone. In this study, multiple stacking sequences have been assembled for an 8L-SBAP. Denoting the single layer [0/90] soft-ballistic sub-laminate as [β]SBSL (where β is the material angle of [0/90] SBSL with respect to reference material direction 1 or [0]), the stacking sequences considered are (i) Baseline Layup 1 – [0]8 SBSL, (ii) Layup 2 – [0]4 SBSL [45]4 SBSL, (iii) Layup 3 – [0]2 SBSL [45]2 SBSL 2, (iv) Layup 4 –[0]1 SBSL [45]4, SBSL, (v) Layup 5 – [0⁄13⁄26⁄39⁄51⁄64⁄77⁄90]SBSL. Dynamic as the lowest minimum perforation velocity range. At the impact layer, the deformation cone initially has a diamond shape and becomes near circular over time for all stacking sequences. On the other hand, at the rear/back layer, there are 4 spokes for the baseline Layup 1 [[0]8 SBSL, and 8 spokes for the zero-forty five Layups 2, 3, and 4 while the helicoidal Layup 5 has 28 spokes.

The effect of 50\% Cu doping at the Au site in the topological Dirac semimetal CaAuAs is investigated through electronic band structure calculations, electrical resistivity, and magnetotransport measurements. Electronic structure calculations a suggest broken-symmetry-driven topological phase transition from the Dirac to triple-point state in CaAuAs via alloy engineering. The electrical resistivity of both the CaAuAs and CaAu$_{0.5}$Cu$_{0.5}$As compounds shows metallic behavior. Nonsaturating quasilinear magnetoresistance (MR) behavior is observed in CaAuAs. On the other hand, MR of the doped compound shows a pronounced cusplike feature in the low-field regime. Such behavior of MR in CaAu$_{0.5}$Cu$_{0.5}$As is attributed to the weak antilocalization (WAL) effect. The WAL effect is analyzed using different theoretical models, including the semiclassical $\sim\sqrt{B}$ one which accounts for the three-dimensional WAL and modified Hikami-Larkin-Nagaoka model. Strong WAL effect is also observed in the longitudinal MR, which is well described by the generalized Altshuler-Aronov model. Our study suggests that the WAL effect originates from weak disorder and the spin-orbit coupled bulk state. Interestingly, we have also observed the signature of chiral anomaly in longitudinal MR, when both current and field are applied along the $c$ axis. The Hall resistivity measurements indicate that the charge conduction mechanism in these compounds is dominated by the holes with a concentration $\sim$10$^{20}$ cm$^{-3}$ and mobility $\sim 10^2$ cm$^2$ V$^{-1}$ S$^{-1}$.

Background: A hospital-based case-control study was undertaken to identify the risk factors for bovine Foot-and-Mouth-Disease (FMD) in the Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. Methods: Two hundred and eighteen FMD cases diagnosed between 2009 and 2018 at the Bangladesh Agricultural University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (BAUVTH) were selected and three controls per case were then selected from BAUVTH (n=872). Data on age, breed, gender, location, and time of presentation were used for the analysis. A multivariable mixed-effect logistic regression model was used to identify risk factors. Location was considered random intercept, demographic variables, and season as fixed effects. Results: The lowest (10) and highest (43) cases were recorded in 2014 and 2015, respectively. There was a decreasing trend (τ = -0.07) in FMD occurrence but was inconsistent and statistically insignificant (P=0.85). The odds FMD was significantly higher in cattle aged >1–3 years (odds ratio (OR) 2.3; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.5; 3.6) and >3–8 years (OR 1.9; 95% CI: 1.3; 3.0) compared to those aged ≤ 1years. Indigenous cattle (OR 1.7; 95% CI: 1.1; 2.8) were at higher risk of being an FMD case than Shahiwal cross. In addition FMD cases were significantly higher in pre-monsoon (OR 1.9; 95% CI: 1.3; 2.9) and winter (OR 2.2; 95% CI: 1.3; 3.7) than post-monsoon season. Conclusion: Indigenous cattle aged between >1 year to 8 years should be prioritized for FMD vaccination, especially before pre-monsoon and winter seasons to prevent future FMD outbreaks and control FMD in Bangladesh.

The tendo achilles is one of most important tendon in human body which often injured through direct trauma or indirect stress on a weakened tendon. Longer the duration after injury the injured parts likely to move apart, fibrosis and degeneration leading to difficulty in repair or reconstruction. Usually a phase of 4 weeks or more without specific treatment is regarded as chronic or neglected rupture. Different authors described many management protocols about the tendo achilles rupture but there is no procedure of choice for neglected rupture with long gap. Prospective case series of 21 patients of neglected tendo achilles rupture with long gap treated with flexor hallucis longus tendon (FHLT) transfer was taken for study from January 2019 to December 2020 in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh. Average age of patients was 39.47 years with range 22-65 years. Fifteen (15) cases of traumatic rupture in this study with average age 32.66 years and pathologic 6 cases with average age 56.5 years were recorded. We grafted FHLT from channel by incising Henry's knot. Krackow et al.'s technique was followed for tendon mobilization and bone fixation. We made procedure simpler and cheaper; instead of using interference screw the sutured tendon pulled through the heel and anchored over rubber tube or button by Cole method. Post-operative complications were less with one patient with superficial infection which eventually recovered 3 cases of mild pain and 2 cases of numbness. Questionnaire for surgical outcome measure are satisfactory in 19 patients (90.47%). Final follow up AOFAS score at 6 month (91.61±5.41) was highly significant (p0.001) in comparison to preoperative score (38.71±9.78). These are comparable to other study. Above mentioned scores indicate the reliability of the surgical system. But our study is a prospective case series with minimum cases. To establish the best procedure for neglected tendo achilles rupture with long gap we recommend further study with larger group and Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) study among different procedure.

Fossil fuels are a major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, NOx, etc.). These fuels are non-renewable energy sources that will eventually be exhausted. Currently, biodiesel has gained attention as a renewable green energy source and means of supporting the minimization of fossil fuel use. However, obtaining biodiesel from edible seeds has been criticized as unethical, due to the source material being needed for human consumption. In this regard, papaya seed waste could be utilized as a potential feedstock because it is non-edible and its high lipid content makes it excellent for producing biodiesel. Papaya fruit is not seasonal. It is available at all times in tropical countries, and almost 75% of the total papaya is generated in the glove. Thus, different soft computing or data mining approaches such response surface methodology (RSM), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and support vector regression (SVR) can be utilized to predict oil yields from waste papaya seeds via solvent extraction. In the present research, the data for oil yields were obtained by experiments based on a central composite design. These data were then employed to develop, compare, and assess the suggested models. The results indicate that the SVR model performed much better for predicting oil yields than did the ANN and RSM models, with respect to various performance-measuring parameters (i.e., relative error, correlation coefficient, mean absolute error, and root mean squared error). It was observed that oil yields increase with an increase in extraction time but decrease as particle size increases. In order to find the global optimal set, an SVR and crow search algorithm-based interface was implemented. A maximum oil yield of 28.55% was achieved at 6.5 h of extraction and a particle size of 0.85 mm. The predicted oil yield was validated experimentally with less than a 5% rate of error. The extracted oil was also characterized by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis.

Papaya seed waste can be a reliable feedstock for producing valuable bioproducts (biodiesel, biolubricants, beauty products, etc.) due to its high oil content. This article focuses to explore the effects of Soxhlet extraction process conditions (extraction time and seed particle size) on the percent oil yield obtained from papaya seeds. Initially, two mathematical models were developed using response surface methodology (RSM) via central composite design and regression analysis (generalized linear model, GLM) to predict the oil yield. The prediction performance of RSM model was found to be superior than GLM. The extracted oil was characterized by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis. The analysis of variance results indicated that both factors were strongly significant. Later, crow search algorithm (nature-motivated metaheuristic algorithm) articulated with RSM was utilized for global optimal solution. The maximum yield of 29.96% was obtained at extraction time of 6.5 h and seed particle size of 0.85 mm. The similar results were obtained by desirability function-based optimization approach. About 2.3 billion individuals worldwide are still deprived of the amenity of handwashing with antimicrobial agents. The progress of handwashing with antimicrobial agents in Bangladesh is relatively slower than in many developing countries. The objective of this study was to capture the inequality of the prevalence of handwashing with antimicrobial agents and to identify the factors that are potentially contributing to socio-economic inequalities of handwashing practice in Bangladesh.Cross-sectional study.The present study used the nationally representative cross-sectional data from the latest Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2017-18. A total of 19,457 households were included in the analysis of this study. A regression-based decomposition method was applied to assess the socio-economic contributors of inequality.This study showed that only 38% of Bangladeshi households wash their hands with antimicrobial agents while a pro-rich socio-economic inequality was observed. Household's wealth index was responsible for about 46% of the overall inequality of handwashing with antimicrobial agents while the type of place for handwashing variable contributed 38% of total inequalities. Hygienic toilet facilities (12%) and exposure to mass media (7.4%) are other determinants of total inequalities of handwashing with antimicrobial agents.Despite recent declines in attributable mortality, handwashing with antimicrobial agents remains an important determinant of public health problems in many developing countries like Bangladesh. The regular programs aimed at promoting best hand hygiene practices and ensuring the availability of the necessary infrastructure at the community level will be important measures to eliminate this inequality at the population level.

This cross sectional descriptive type of observational study was designed to see the prevalence of NAFLD among school children of Sylhet, Bangladesh from December 2019 to January 2020. School children of three private schools of Sylhet City were randomly selected. Socio-demographic data and anthropometric measurement of them were recorded. Then they underwent screening sonologically for NAFLD. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 20.0. P value0.05 was taken as significant. Total 174 students, boys 99(56.9%) and girls 75(43.1%) were included. Age of them varied from nine years to 17 years (mean 13.408). In this series 82(47.1%), 52(29.9%) and 40(23.0%) were of normal weight, overweight and obese children respectively. In this study 29(16.7%) children had NAFLD and seven (4.0%) had biliary sludge in gall bladder. NAFLD was significantly higher among children with higher BMI (p=0.00). Female sex, children consuming fast food and playing video games were about two times more prone to develop NAFLD. Biliary sludge was found significantly higher among children consuming fast food (p=0.02). NAFLD among school going children is not uncommon. Higher BMI is a significant risk factor of developing NAFLD. Girls and children consuming fast food and playing video games also are more prone to develop NAFLD. Prevalence of sludge in gall bladder is low among school children.

Elderly women are very much prone to develop fracture at neck of femur sustained by even minute trauma. Most of the cases are due to fall. Osteoporosis gives rise to this vulnerable condition. In developing countries like Bangladesh the women of rural areas are the prime victims mostly due to illiteracy. To assess the quality-of-life (QOL) of elderly women (60 years) with untreated hip fractures in a rural areas in Mymensingh, Bangladesh is the objective of this study. This prospective study was done from January 2019 to December 2019 in Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department of Mymensingh Medical Hospital, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Twenty-five elderly women with untreated fracture neck of femur were enlisted in this study. EuroQol (EQ-5D) was applied to assess the Quality of life of subjects before and after the situation. Twenty-five elderly women of healed operated neck of femur were included as comparison group, matched for age, economic condition and educational status among neighborhood people. So, sample size was fifty. Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test were applied to compare EQ-5D mean scores. Participants with hip fracture, 60% (15/25), 68% (17/25), 68% (17/25), 60% (15/25) and 92% (23/25) reported severe problems with mobility, pain, usual activity, self-care and anxiety respectively. The EQ-5D mean score among the elderly with fracture neck of femur was 0.198 (SD 0.14). It was low when compared with the same subjects before the occurrence of the event (Z-6.522, p0.001) and as compared with the comparison group (Z-7.92 p0.001). QOL scores assessed using EQ-5D index scores was poor among elderly women with untreated fracture neck of femur as compared with the healed operated comparison group. Vast majority of study participants in this study were reported severe problems like mobility, pain, usual activity and self-care and anxiety.

High-quality single crystals of EuAuAs were studied by means of powder x-ray diffraction, magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, electrical resistivity and magnetoresistance measurements. The compound crystallizes with a hexagonal structure of the ZrSiBe type (space group $P6_3/mmc$). It orders antiferromagnetically below 6 K due to the magnetic moments of divalent Eu ions. The electrical resistivity exhibits metallic behavior down to 40 K, followed by a sharp increase at low temperatures. The magnetotransport isotherms show a distinct metamagnetic-like transition in concert with the magnetization data. The antiferromagnetic ground state in \mbox{EuAuAs} was corroborated in the \textit{ab initio} electronic band structure calculations. Most remarkably, the calculations revealed the presence of nodal line without spin-orbit coupling and Dirac point with inclusion of spin-orbit coupling. The \textit{Z}$_2$ invariants under the effective time reversal and inversion symmetries make this system nontrivial topological material. Our findings, combined with experimental analysis, makes EuAuAs a plausible candidate for an antiferromagnetic topological nodal-line semimetal.

Prior research identified malnutrition as one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality among children globally. Furthermore, research revealed that over two thirds of deaths associated with inappropriate feeding practices occurred during the early years of life. Improper feeding practices impact a child’s health in many different ways. However, research on the possible factors driving underweight, wasting, and stunting among school aged children in developing countries is limited, hence warrant further attention. Against this backdrop, this research strives to identify and assess the determinants of underweight, wasting and stunting among school aged children of a developing country-Ethiopia. A community based cross-sectional study was conducted from April 1, 2018 to June 15, 2018 in Merawi town, Ethiopia. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 422 children. Binary logistic regression technique was performed to examine the effect of each selected variable on the outcome measure. The prevalence of being underweight, wasting and stunting was found to be 5.7%, 9.8%, 10.4%, respectively. The age of the child [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 12.930 (2.350, 71.157)] and the number of children [AOR = 8.155 (1.312, 50.677)] were emerged as the key determinants for underweight, and the gender of the child was significantly associated with wasting [AOR = 0.455 (0.224, 0.927)]. Finally, the age of the child [AOR = 12.369 (2.522, 60.656)] was found to predict the risk of stunting. This study revealed the age, number of children and gender of the child to have a significant association with malnutrition. The findings of this research suggest that in improving the feeding practices of young school-aged children, special attention should be paid to female children and those coming from relatively large families.

In this work, we studied TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibril (OCNF) suspensions in the presence of diverse surfactants. Using a combination of small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and rheology, we compared the physical properties of the suspensions with their structural behavior. Four surfactants were studied, all with the same hydrophobic tail length but different headgroups: hexaethylene glycol mono-n-dodecyl ether (C12EO6, nonionic), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS, anionic), cocamidopropyl betaine (CapB, zwitterionic), and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB, cationic). Contrast variation SANS studies using deuterated version of C12EO6 or SDS, or by varying the D2O/H2O ratio of the suspensions (with CapB), allowed focusing only on the structural properties of OCNFs or surfactant micelles. We showed that, in the concentration range studied, for C12EO6, although the nanofibrils are concentrated thanks to an excluded volume effect observed in SANS, the rheological properties of the suspensions are not affected. Addition of SDS or CapB induces gelation for surfactant concentrations superior to the critical micellar concentration (CMC). SANS results show that attractive interactions between OCNFs arise in the presence of these anionic or zwitterionic surfactants, hinting at depletion attraction as the main mechanism of gelation. Finally, addition of small amounts of DTAB (below the CMC) allows formation of a tough gel by adsorbing onto the OCNF surface.

In this study our main goal is to evaluate the HRCT evaluation of 105 suspected COVID 19 patients of MMCH and RT-PCR correlation. This experimental and observational study was done at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), Mymensingh, Bangladesh from May 2020 to October 2020. Where 105 suspected COVID 19 patients of MMCH and RT-PCR correlation were included in the study. During the study, 43.05% of the patients exposed indirectly to the virus, followed by 44.1% didn't exposed any virus, 21% exposed directly. Diabetes mellitus was 35.7%, HTN - 46.2%, 82.95% had fever, 72.45% had cough, 78.75% had respiratory distress and 49.35% had no diseases. After CT scan diagnosis, positive to infection were found in 98 patients, among them 34 patients had mild type, 22 had severe type of infection where as in RT-PCR diagnosis 69 were positive and 36 were negative to infection. From our study we can conclude that, the most common pattern of COVID-19 pneumonia on HRCT images are pure GGO and GGO and Crazy Paving. Also GGO with consolidation with prominent distribution in the posterior and peripheral part of the lung. Further study is very much needed for better outcome.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of blockchain technology on firms’ operational efficiency in the context of China. Design/methodology/approach The authors use panel data for blockchain-based companies listed on stock exchanges in China (Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong) between 2014 and 2018. The operational efficiency of firms that deploy blockchain technology is evaluated using ordinary least squares and system generalized method of moments estimation. Findings Results suggest that companies’ current year performance exceeds the previous year performance because of blockchain deployment in firms’ operations. Firms with higher financial leverage and return on assets reap more benefits from blockchain. Larger and older firms benefit less from blockchain implementation. Stochastic frontier estimation suggests that, on average, firms attain a 57.76 per cent technical efficiency level, or, put differently, they operate 42.24 per cent below their maximum level of potential output. Originality/value Blockchain can benefit firms in terms of consensus, security and trust, spurring the evolution of a new form of organizational dynamics. This study explores the theory of transactional cost analysis under blockchain technology. In addition, this study hypothesizes and empirically demonstrates the significant impacts of blockchain technology on corporations’ operational efficiency, using audited, externally reported financial data. Industry professionals can reap benefits from this research by noticing the magnitude of changes in firms’ financial parameters attributable to blockchain adoption.

This review reports the application of essential oils (EOs) as a green corrosion/biocorrosion inhibitor. The topics discussed are: (i) sources and composition of EOs, (ii) adsorption mechanism, (iii) anticorrosion effects of EOs on metal surfaces, (iv) electrochemical investigations, (v) antimicrobial activity of EOs on corrosion-producing bacteria and algae, (vi) synergetic effects of EOs, and (vii) economical aspect and application of inhibitors. Various aspects of biofilms are discussed to identify microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and the characterization of microorganisms causing MIC. The studies indicate that EOs have the potential as eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors in both aggressive chemicals and biofilm environments.

Soft drink refers to sugar-sweetened beverages that contain a natural or artificial flavoring. Daily soft drinks consumption in children is an unhealthy lifestyle behavior that demands special attention to maintain their healthy lives. The present study was aimed to examine the consumption of soft drink and its influence on BMI, and academic performance among selected school children in Dhaka City of Bangladesh. This cross-sectional study was nested among 600 randomly selected young school-aged children (6-17 years, both boys and girls) from the six English Medium schools in Dhaka city of Bangladesh. Background: BPH is one of the most common cause of LUTS which significantly impairs the quality of life. TURP is minimally invasive surgical procedure for Benign Prostatic hyperplasia which has impact on quality of life. Impact on quality of life can be measured by QoL score and effect of TURP can be evaluated. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the impact of transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) on Quality of Life (QoL) score. Methodology: This prospective study was carried out in the Department of Urology, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka, from July 2015 to June 2016. Total fifty patients between 50 to 72 years attending for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) were included for the study according to inclusion & exclusion criteria. All of them were evaluated with baseline international prostate symptoms score (IPSS), QoL score, peak urinary flow rate (Qmax), voided volume, voiding time and PVR and were recorded in a predesigned data sheet. Selected patients underwent Transurethral Resection of Prostate. They were followed after 1 month and 3 months with same parameter and compared with the baseline values. Results: The baseline international prostate symptoms score (IPSS) in this study was 25.18±1.45. At one month and three months follow up visits after TURP, the IPSS was decreased to 15.0±1.07 and 8.14±0.76 respectively. We report strong damping enhancement in a 200 nm thick yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film due to spin inhomogeneity at the interface. The growth-induced thin interfacial gadolinium iron garnet (GdIG) layer antiferromagnetically (AFM) exchange couples with the rest of the YIG layer. The out-of-plane angular variation of ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) linewidth $\Delta H$ reflects a large inhomogeneous distribution of effective magnetization $\Delta 4 \pi M_{eff}$ due to the presence of an exchange springlike moments arrangement in YIG. We probe the spin inhomogeneity at the YIG-GdIG interface by performing an in-plane angular variation of resonance field $H_{r}$, leading to a unidirectional feature. Intramedullary nailing is a pillar in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures. But it is not possible in all cases especially in comminuted fractures. This study has been designed to explain the importance of Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPO) with the locking plate in the treatment of comminuted Femoral Shaft Fracture. Twenty (20) such patients were treated by MIPO and analysis has been done in this study to get fruitful result and to find out the effectiveness of this procedure who were admitted at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Mymensingh, a tertiary level hospital of Bangladesh from February 2018 to January 2019. Mean age of the patients were 49.20±14.41 years. Based on AO classification, there were 4, 8 and 8 patients belong to type A, B and C respectively. The union period for all the patients was in between 12 to 14 weeks. The mean union period was 12.90±1.997 weeks. Mean follow up period was 19.70±2.77 weeks. Mean full weight bearing period was 16.50±1.10 weeks. In Thoresen scoring system excellent result was 9(45%), good result was 10(20%) and fair result was 01(5%). Mal-alignment happened in two cases. However, delayed union and broken screws were found in two cases each of which was treated accordingly. Comminuted Femoral shaft fracture with MIPO procedure is more effective treatment than intramedullary nailing. Furthermore, mal-alignment is the basic complexity that must be taken away intraoperatively.

Danis-Weber type-B ankle fracture is one of the most common injuries in young and active individual. This fracture offers a considerable challenge to orthopedic surgeon. Though there are several options for treating such type of fracture, ORIF by Pre-contoured Distal Fibular Locking Plate is the preferred option in the recent years. This descriptive type of observational study was performed from July 2017 to June 2019 in NITOR. Thirty (30) patients, 22 male and 8 female with an average age of 39 years with Danis-Weber type-B ankle fracture underwent ORIF by Pre-contoured Distal Fibular Locking Plate for fractured fibula and ORIF by 4.0mm cannulated cancellous screw for fractured medial malleolus. All the patients were initially managed by analgesic and short leg posterior slab. Average follow up was 24 weeks. Final outcome was assessed by AOFAS score. The main cause of injury was RTA (56.67%). Mean operation time was 1.2 hours. Mean duration of Hospital stay was 16.43±1.73 days. Superficial infection was in 3.33% and skin necrosis in 3.33% patient. Mean duration of radiological healing was 12.73±0.39 weeks. At final follow up, mean dorsi flexion was 10.93°±0.357° and plantar flexion was 50.93°±0.357°. Ninety percent (90%) patient had no difficulties in walking on any surface; 96.67% patient had stable ankle hind foot; 86.67% patient had good. Ten percent (10%) had fair and 3.33% patient had poor alignment of foot. The mean score in this study was 88.67±2.31. Satisfactory outcome was observed in 86.67% patients and 13.33% had unsatisfactory results. On the basis of results in the present study, it can be concluded that treatment of Danis-Weber type-B ankle fracture by Pre-contoured Distal Fibular Locking Plate is an effective and reliable method.

Transpedicular screw fixation is a challenging procedure for the correction of deformity of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) in the dorso-lumbar spine. The inadvertently misplaced screws have a high risk of complications. The exactness of the pedicle screws is normally distinct as the screws axis being fully enclosed within the cortices of the pedicle. Evaluation of the surgical correction of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis by transpedicular screws and rods was done in single posterior dynamic approach. This prospective observational study was conducted in the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, Dhaka and different Hospitals in Dhaka, Bangladesh from July 2015 to March 2017. Ten patients at the age9 years and19 years who were admitted with a diagnosis of AIS during the period of study. The pedicle is a power nucleus of the vertebra and offers a secure grip of all 3 columns. Pedicle screw instrumentation has advantages of rigid fixation with improved 3D correction and it has been accepted as a reliable method with a high margin of safety. Accurate placement of the pedicle screws is important to reduce possible irreversible complication. So, all cases were corrected by transpedicular screws and rods in single posterior approach. In every case fusion was done in selected segments. In this study out of 10 patients 7(70.0%) were 10 to 14 years of age and 3(30.0%) were 15 to 18 years. Mean age 9.51±2.13 years. Minimum 10 years and maximum 18 years. Majority 7(70.0%) of the patients were female and the rest 3(30.0%) male. Five (50.0%) presented with level of involvement, 3(30.0%) patients thoracic and 2(20.0%) patients had lumbar. Maximum 7(70.0%) presented right sided involvement and rest 3(30.0%) left sided involvement. Before surgical intervention 100% patients had rib hump and positive Adams forward bending test, 70.0% patients had asymmetry of shoulder and uneven hip and also 50% patients had pain. After surgical treatment with transpedicular screws and rods through posterior approach, 70% of patients improved in terms of deformity. The average major curve deformity as defined by Cobb angle measurements was measured to be 54.9°±9.9° (40°-68°) in pre-surgery. After surgery this deformity corrected to 16.0°±4.9° (10°-24°) on average as measured in erect posture posterior anterior and lateral view. This represents significant improvement average of 71.4±4.3% (64.6-75.09) (p0.001). This correction was maintained at 24 months after surgery. Functional results assessed by Modified Macnab criteria, significant number of 7(70.0%) patients had excellent outcome, 2(20.0%) patients had good outcome, 1(10.0%) patients had fair outcome and no poor outcome. Ninety percent (90%) patients had satisfactory results. No patient deteriorates neurologically after surgery. It is concluded that satisfactory curve correction and maintenance thereof is possible in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, with posterior instrumentation by transpedicular screw and rods with effective reduction of cost and associated risks.

The non-trivial magnetic texture in real space gives rise to the intriguing phenomenon of topological Hall effect (THE), which is relatively less explored in topological semimetals. Here, we report large THE in the antiferromagnetic (AFM) state in single crystals of EuAgAs, an AFM Dirac semimetal. EuAgAs hosts AFM ground state below $T_N$ = 12 K with a weak ferromagnetic component. The in-plane isothermal magnetization below $T_N$ exhibits a weak metamagnetic transition. We also observe chiral anomaly induced positive longitudinal magnetoconductivity which indicates a Weyl fermion state under applied magnetic field. The first-principles calculations reveal that EuAgAs is an AFM Dirac semimetal with a pair of Dirac cones, and therefore, a Weyl semimetailic state can be realized under time-reversal symmetry breaking via an applied magnetic field. Cellular death of bone due to impairment of the blood supply leading to collapse resulting in pain, and loss of joint function is known as avascular necrosis (AVN). The head of femur is the most common bone affected by avascular necrosis followed by talus and scaphoid. We evaluate the results of core decompression with non-vascularized fibular graft in avascular necrosis of femoral head. This quasi experimental study was done at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and some other private hospitals of Bangladesh. The study includes patients who underwent core decompression and non-vascularized fibular grafting in avascular necrosis of femoral head from January 2017 to December 2018. In this study we evaluated total 20 patients and majority of the patients belongs to the group of 20-30 years. Out of 20 patients, 8 of them were unilaterally involved rest 12 had bilateral involvement. Out of 24 hips of bilateral involvement 4 were grade III and IV (Ficat and Arlet classification) therefore not included in the study. So, we study 28 hips only. The average success rate was 90% after core decompression and non-vascularized fibular bone grafting. Harris hip score of 60 on presentation had poorer outcome. Patients with less than 80 degrees of flexion had poorer outcome.

Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) is a dynamic and cogent assay for the detection and quantification of specified nucleic acid sequences and is more accurate compared to both traditional culture based techniques and 'end point' conventional PCR. Serial dilution of bacterial cell culture provides information on colony forming unit (CFU) counts. This is crucial for obtaining optimal standard curves representative of DNA concentration. This approach eliminates variation in the standard curves caused by loss of DNA by serial dilution of nucleic acid elute. In this study, an assay was developed to detect and quantify DNA by real-time PCR for two pathogenic species, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae). In order to generate a standard curve, total bacterial DNA was diluted in a 10-fold series and each sample was adjusted to an estimated cell count. The starting bacterial DNA concentration was 11ng/µL. An individual E. coli cell has approximately 5.16 femtograms of DNA. Therefore, 11 ng/µL of DNA would indicate 2.48×10

The world economy is being hit badly by a fatal decease named COVID 19. This pandemic has dramatically affected all the ramifications of the world community. Hence, this research attempts to explore the impact of Covid-19 on the socioeconomic status of lower-middle and lower-income people. Paired sample t-test has been used as the statistical tool in this study to compare and contrast the income, savings and social status of the people of Bangladesh before and after COVID 19. A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect the relevant data from the lower middle and lower-income people. We distributed 400 questionnaires from which 259 usable responses were returned with a success rate of 64.75%. The results indicate that the income, savings and social status of the respondents have been affected by COVID 19 significantly. The study is supposed to help policymakers to appreciate the situation of lower-middle and lower-income groups in Bangladesh as it covered their socioeconomic condition amid COVID 19 and the challenges they faced. © 2021 Author(s).

The unusual features of topological semimetals arise from its nontrivial band structure. The impact of strong electron correlations on the topological states remains largely unexplored in real materials. Here, we report the magnetotransport properties of YbCdSn single crystals. We found two fundamental experimental evidences of electron correlations through magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. The electron correlations in this compound lead to an intermediate valence state and enhance the effective mass of the charge carriers. This correlated state exhibits large nonsaturating magnetoresistance, low carrier density, magnetic field induced metal-semiconductor-like crossover and a plateau in resistivity at low temperatures. This compound also shows a cusp-like magnetoconductivity at low magnetic field which indicates the presence of weak antilocalization effect. Our band structure calculations of Yb$^{2+}$ state predict YbCdSn to be a topological nodal-line semimetal., 10 Pages, 8 Figures, Published, Phys. Rev. B
