Abstract

Windstorm occurrence in several parts of Malaysia, particularly in the northern region, has severely affected humans, causing damage to property as well as fatality. This study aims to investigate the past windstorm occurrence trend, including damage and losses, in Penang districts from 2010 to 2013. Data on windstorm occurrence and on damages and losses from districts were collected from the Land and District office and Social Welfare Department of Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia. The monthly windstorm occurrences in the districts were compared. Windstorm likely occurs in during March, May, and November annually. This windstorm occurrence indirectly contributes to the damage and losses in that particular area. Therefore, this phenomenon must not be neglected in Malaysia. The negative effects of this phenomenon become more severe with increasing incidence. Therefore, disaster mitigation efforts should be exerted to reduce the disastrous consequences of windstorm.

Abstract

Frequent communication problems related to web use can be explained as challenges related to the interaction and communication between the user and the platform/web. Users often have difficulty navigating or using features correctly, resulting in misunderstandings about the purpose and information conveyed. The role of the user interface (UI) is seen from a visual communication design perspective. The aim of this research is to determine the role of the user interface on the happy go lucky website as a creative product promotion strategy. This research uses a qualitative approach, with descriptive methods. Example of Happy Go Lucky web research. Visually, there are several elements that attract attention when looking at the appearance of the Happy Go Lucky site. Complete data collection by means of virtual observation, virtual documentation, and literature review. The findings of this research can be seen from the Happy Go Lucky website page which is clean and can give a positive impression to its users. The Happy Go Lucky brand identity has created consistency in visuals, and makes users feel familiar with UI elements and can more easily recognize and remember the brand. noting the importance of interfaces on the web, businesses and developers can ensure that interface designs support user and organizational goals, creating positive and productive experiences as a promotional strategy for the Happy Go Lucky brand.

10. Electrohydrodynamic Couette–Poiseuille Flow Instability of Two Viscous Conducting and Dielectric Fluid Layers Streaming through Brinkman Porous Medium

Abstract

The electrohydrodynamic plane Couette–Poiseuille flow instability of two superposed conducting and dielectric viscous incompressible fluids confined between two rigid horizontal planes under the action of a normal electric field and pressure gradient through Brinkman porous medium has been analytically investigated. The lower plane is stationary, while the upper one is moving with constant velocity. The details of the base state mathematical model and the linearized model equations for the perturbed state are introduced. Following the usual procedure of linear stability analysis for viscous fluids, we derived two non-dimensional modified Orr–Sommerfeld equations and obtained the associated boundary and interfacial conditions suitable for the problem. The eigenvalue problem has been solved using asymptotic analysis for wave numbers in the long-wavelength limit to obtain a very complicated novel dispersion relation for the wave velocity through lengthy calculations. The obtained dispersion equation has been solved using Mathematica software v12.1 to study graphically the effects of various parameters on the stability of the system. It is obvious from the figures that the system in the absence of a porous medium and/or electric field is more unstable than in their presence. It is found also that the velocity of the upper rigid boundary, medium permeability, and Reynolds number have dual roles on the stability on the system, stabilizing as well as destabilizing depending on the viscosity ratio value. The electric potential, dielectric constant and pressure gradient are found to have destabilizing influences on the system, while the porosity of the porous medium, density ratio and Froude number have stabilizing influences. A depth ratio of less than one has a dual role on the stability of the system, while it has a stabilizing influence for values greater than one. It is observed that the viscosity stratification brings about a stabilizing as well as a destabilizing effect on the flow system.

19. Office-based General Anesthesia for a Patient With a History of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

Abstract

First described in 1956 subsequent to a reaction reported to the newly introduced antipsychotic drug chlorpromazine, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare, potentially life-threatening reaction to antipsychotic drugs characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, altered mental status, and autonomic instability. All neuroleptics, including newer antipsychotics, have been linked to this condition. Due to similar symptoms, it is debatable if individuals with NMS can be susceptible to malignant hyperthermia (MH). This case report presents the anesthetic care of a 30-year-old male undergoing general anesthesia in the office-based dental environment. The rationale behind the selected total intravenous anesthesia technique without NMS or MH triggering agents is outlined as well as other agents that may still be questionable regarding their trigger effect for NMS.

25. Price performance and Egyptian stock market efficiency : an intial public offerings perspective

Abstract

The core of this thesis has involved an examination of the efficiency of the Egyptian stock market (ESM) with a specific focus on the price performance of the privatised initial public offerings (PIPOs). Recent structural changes in the Egyptian economy during the 1990s permit testing hypotheses about how these changes have affected the behaviour of ESM, in general, and PIPOs in particular. An analytical review of prior studies is provided in Chapter Two. Two documented anomalies of IPOs price performance, i.e. short-run underpricing and long-run overpricing, are revealed. Some researchers attribute these findings to the trading system of the developed capital markets. Our study refutes this explanation because we also find these anomalies in the ESM, although it is a market without an investment-banker (specialist) system. Accordingly, five empirical chapters are constructed to investigate the ESM. Before examining the price performance of PIPOs in the ESM, two chapters are assigned to examine the whole market at the domestic and international levels, as a preliminary exploration. From the domestic point of view, Chapter Four deals with questions of normality, volatility, randomness, and the efficiency of the ESM. Several basic tests were employed for testing normality. All indicated that none of the indices has a normally distributed return. Then, the Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedastic model (ARCH) proposed by Robert Engle (1982) and the Generalized ARCH model (GARCR) of Bollerslev (1986) are employed to describe the process of stock returns. The findings show that the variance of returns is time-varying in the GARCH context. Also, the integratedness of the volatility of asset returns is analyzed using the IGARCH model. The results indicate that the volatility of stock returns is integrated. To test the stationarity of the ESM returns, unit root tests of Dickey and Fuller (1979) and the variance-ratio test of Lo and MacKinlay (1988) were implemented. The results support the notion that there is a relatively significant stationary component in past returns that can be used to predict future returns; therefore, returns do not follow pure random walks. Since the random walk hypothesis is not equivalent to market efficiency, we conduct the test of efficiency by using unit root and cointegration techniques, which are recently developed techniques in the time series literature. It is found that disaggregate stock price indices of the ESM are cointegrated which is interpreted as a violation of the concept of static efficiency introduced by MacDonald and Power (1993). Then, Chapter Five is assigned to test the internationalization of the ESM among eighteen emerging international stock markets. The Engle-Granger two-step methodology and the Johansen's multivariate cointegration tests were performed on these prices. The findings show that the eighteen emerging markets are cointegrated, indicating Granger-Causality in levels and these are suggesting of inefficiency. However, for the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Rim markets groups, the results reveal an absence of any clear evidence of cointegration among them. Then, to measure the price performance of PIPOs, we use both the market-adjusted and risk-adjusted models. In the risk-adjusted model, both the general CAPM and the Returns Across Time and Securities (RATS) model were employed. Chapter Six illustrates that the Egyptian PIPOs are underpriced with average initial returns of 15.03 % and the observed distribution is heavily skewed and has a median of 13 %. Chapter Seven shows that insignificant positive excess market returns exist, on average, between the close in the first day of listing and the close in the fourth week of trading. It is suggested that these early positive excess market returns in the aftermarket may result from speculative bubbles which burst in subsequent trading in the aftermarket period giving rise to negative excess market returns. Also , the results indicate that the mean beta declines after-listing and varies around the market beta of unity. The mean beta in the Egyptian PIPOs market thus appear to behave nearly in a similar manner to the risk behaviour in other markets. Finally, Chapter Eight investigates the efficiency of the Egyptian PIPOs in the aftermarket. The results supported both the weak-form and semistrong-form of the Efficient Market Hypothesis of the PIPOs in the ESM.

Abstract

Cryo-rolling, a technique of severe plastic deformation (SPD) performed at cryogenic temperatures, has proven to be a promising technique for improving the microstructure and mechanical properties of low-carbon steels. Low carbon steel with a two-phase ferrite-martensite starting microstructure was subjected to cryogenic rolling at liquid nitrogen temperature to produce sheets with different deformation rates: 50%, 70%, and 90%. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance were investigated. The results show that cryo-rolling effectively refines the microstructure and leads to a higher dislocation density and smaller grain size as the deformation rate increases. The cryorolled sample deformed at 90% has the highest grain aspect ratio (35.5), the smallest crystallite size (13.70 nm), the highest lattice strain (74.6 x 10-3), and the highest dislocation density compared to the samples deformed at 50% and 70%. This refined microstructure significantly improves the mechanical properties, with the cryo-rolled sample deformed at 90% exhibiting the highest hardness (152 HV), tensile strength (1020 MPa), and yield strength (950 MPa), corresponding to an increase of 175.6%, 344.0%, and 466.5%, respectively. In addition, cryo-rolling at 90% showed a decrease in corrosion resistance, with the lowest corrosion rate observed at 90% deformation (5.97 mm/year). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: Tinggong is an indigenous rice variety in Aceh Province known for its excellent cooking quality and tolerance to adverse climatic conditions such as drought. However, this local rice has a long lifespan ranging from 150-160 days and is susceptible to Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) causes bacterial leaf blight (BLB). Methods: To improve the performance of Tinggong, the variety was cross-breed with the isogenic line IRBB27 which confers Xa-27 and sd-1 genes. The inheritance of both of these genes and the changes in their agronomic character and the resistance to Xoo were analyzed in the F3 progenies to identify the presence of both Xa-27 and sd-1 genes in the F3 progenies and the implication of their phenotypic characters. Result: The results showed that 58.33% of progenies inherited both Xa-27 and sd-1 genes. Of these, 4 progenies consisting #T5, T6, T29 and T30 are the potential to develop as they show both genotypic and phenotypic improvement. The 4 progenies produce earlier (116-120 days after sowing) with plant height 109-128 cm and more resistance to Xoo (lesion length 2.08-2.42 cm), the weight of grains per hill reached 26.24-34.12 g or yield potential (10.40-43.55%) higher compared to their parent Tinggong. Neoantigens arising from mutations in tumor DNA provide targets for immune-based therapy. Here, we report the clinical and immune data from a Phase Ib clinical trial of a personalized neoantigen-vaccine NEO-PV-01 in combination with pemetrexed, carboplatin, and pembrolizumab as first-line therapy for advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Dalam tulisan ini, dibahas mengenai penelusuran ciri khas musikal lagu-lagu wanda papantunan dengan merujuk pendapat para peneliti sebelumnya dan dengan melakukan analisis notasi lagu-lagu wanda papantunan. Dalam analisis notasi lagu, dilakukan pengidentifikasian unsur-unsur musikal yang hasilnya dapat melengkapi uraian ciri khas musikal lagu-lagu wanda papantunan dari para peneliti sebelumnya dengan indikatorindikator musikal.
