Abstract The detection of hate speech (HS) in online platforms has become extremely important for maintaining a safe and inclusive environment. While significant progress has been made in English-language HS detection, methods for detecting HS in other languages, such as Bengali, have not been explored much like English. In this survey, we outlined the key challenges specific to HS detection in Bengali, including the scarcity of labeled datasets, linguistic nuances, and contextual variations. We also examined different approaches and methodologies employed by researchers to address these challenges, including classical machine learning techniques, ensemble approaches, and more recent deep learning advancements. Furthermore, we explored the performance metrics used for evaluation, including the accuracy, precision, recall, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and F1 score, providing insights into the effectiveness of the proposed models. Additionally, we identified the limitations and future directions of research in Bengali HS detection, highlighting the need for larger annotated datasets, cross-lingual transfer learning techniques, and the incorporation of contextual information to improve the detection accuracy. This survey provides a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art HS detection methods used in Bengali text and serves as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners interested in understanding the advancements, challenges, and opportunities in addressing HS in the Bengali language, ultimately assisting in the creation of reliable and effective online platform detection systems.

This scoping review explores the utilization of artificial intelligence in emergency nursing, assessing its impact, potential benefits, and the obstacles faced in its adoption. It covers the scope of AI from advanced triage protocols to continuous monitoring of patients, assistance in diagnosis, and providing support for clinical decisions. The review notes that AI in emergency healthcare can lead to more efficient care and timely, data-driven actions, but also highlights significant issues such as safeguarding patient data, the necessity for dependable infrastructure, and concerns over discriminatory algorithms. The promise of AI in improving emergency healthcare practices and patient care is clear, yet the identified challenges must be carefully navigated to promote safe and ethical use. Further empirical research is called for to confirm the effectiveness of AI applications in the dynamic environment of emergency care setups.

This study aimed to extract apple juice from green apple fruits previously treated with aqueous extract of apple peels, before storing the extracted juice at a temperature of (4)°C, for a period of (30) days, and comparing it with the juice of untreated fruits in order to determine the effect of inhibiting the polyphenol enzyme. Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) in apple fruits according to the treatments mentioned in some characteristics of apple juice extracted from those fruits. The studied characteristics are: residual enzymatic activity, total soluble sugars, ascorbic acid content, total phenols content, and browning index, as they were immersed in Fruits treated with aqueous extract of apple peels had a significant effect in reducing the residual enzymatic activity and ascorbic acid values of the treated fruit juice, while the total soluble sugars and total phenols content had a significant increase in their values after the end of the storage period, while the browning index values were not affected at the end of storage.

Emotion detection has become an intriguing issue for researchers owing to its psychological, social, and commercial significance. People express their feelings directly or indirectly through facial expressions, language, writing, or behavior. An emotion detection tool is a critical and practical way to recognize and categorize moods in various applications. Artificial intelligence (AI) is often used to identify emotions. Machine learning and deep learning algorithms produce high-quality solutions for diagnosing emotional diseases among social media users. Numerous studies and survey articles have been published on emotion detection using textual data. However, most of these studies did not comprehensively address the emerging architectures and performance analyses in emotion detection. This study provides an extensive survey of state-of-the-art systems, techniques, and datasets for textual emotion recognition. Another goal of this study is to emphasize the limitations and provide up-and-coming research directions to fill these gaps in this rapidly evolving field. This survey paper investigated the concepts and performance of different categories of textual emotion detection models, approaches, and methodologies.

Abstract Tensor analyzing-power components $$T_{20}$$ T 20 , $$T_{21}$$ T 21 , and $$T_{22}$$ T 22 for the reaction $$\gamma d\rightarrow np\pi ^0$$ γ d → n p π 0 have been studied for the first time in the photon energy range from 280 to 500 MeV. The data are extracted from the experimental statistics accumulated at the VEPP-3 storage ring in 2002–2003. The measured asymmetries are compared with the results of statistical simulations performed with the $$\gamma d\rightarrow np\pi ^0$$ γ d → n p π 0 amplitude from a spectator model, taking into account corrections for the final-state interaction. The comparison demonstrates quite good agreement between the experimental results and the theory.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is typically characterized by the neoplastic proliferation of plasma cells producing a monoclonal immunoglobulin. Pleural effusion in MM is uncommon and usually caused by heart failure, pulmonary embolus, and nephrotic syndrome [Arch Intern Med. 1978;138(5):727–30; Chest. 1994;105(2):622–4]. Here, we report a case of myelomatous pleural effusion as part of the initial presentation of MM in a patient with the IgG-lambda subtype, which is extremely uncommon.

In turbine disk cavity, rim seals are fitted between the stator and its adjacent rotor disk. A coolant air injected through the turbine disk cavity to prevent the ingress of mainstream hot gases. The purpose of this paper is to investigate numerically the effect of the upstream purge flow on the aero and thermal performances of a high pressure turbine rotor. The investigations are conducted on a generic rim seal cavity inspired from a realistic turbofan engine. Four purge fractions (PF) equal to 0.2%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% of the mainstream are considered. The simulations are done by solving the three-dimensional Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes and energy transport equations. The results include the effect of the PF on the cooling effectiveness, the sealing effectiveness, the secondary flows with losses and the heat transfer behavior, within the cavity and across the rotor passage. The low PF of 0.2% provided a low cooling effectiveness, a moderate sealing effectiveness and minimum losses. The high PF of 1.5% gave a high cooling effectiveness, a best sealing effectiveness and maximum losses. The medium PF of 1.0% supplied a compromise between the aerodynamic and thermal design needs with good cooling and sealing efficiencies and a tolerable level of losses.

Dasatinib is a BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor which was approved in 2006 for the treatment of adults diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in chronic phase (CP) and accelerated (myeloid or lymphoid blast) phase and CML with resistance or intolerance to prior therapy including imatinib and in adults with Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Common adverse reactions (>15%) in patients diagnosed with CP-CML include myelosuppression, fluid retention, and diarrhea. We report a 34-year-old Filipino female patient who received dasatinib as upfront therapy for the treatment of CP-CML who experienced chronic diarrhea for 2 months, which progressed to colitis.

We study the existence of solutions for random system of fractional differential equations with boundary nonlocal initial conditions. Our approach is based on random fixed point principles of Schaefer and Perov, combined with a vector approach that uses matrices that converge to zero. We prove existence and uniqueness results for these systems. Some examples are presented to illustrate the theory.

Abstract This article presents an approach to model and simulate Plug&Play social things. Confined into silos, existing (not social) things are restricted to basic operations like sensing and actuating, which deprive them from participating in the satisfaction of complex business applications. Contrarily, social things are expected to engage in collaborative scenarios and to tap into specific relations that connect them to peers when achieving these scenarios. These relations are referred to as complimentary, antagonism, and competition, and allow to develop networks of things. To capitalize on such networks, the approach to model and simulate Plug&Play social things puts forward four stages that are referred to as connecting to demystify social relations between things, influencing to examine the impact of social relations on things, playing to make things perform while considering influence, and incentivizing to reward things based on their performance. A smart system for elderly the care centers has been developed to showcase the technical doability of Plug&Play social things. The system is an integrated development environment allowing IoT engineers to define the collaboration of social things, thanks to a set of drag&drop operations.

Existing seismic vulnerability has become a topical of actuality, concerning both new and old buildings. Several techniques have been used to allow structures to better resist seismic events. In recent years, these have been so-called intelligent materials such as shape memory alloys (SMAs) due to their superelasticity and their ease in returning to their initial state after deformation, which can reach 10%. In the present article, nickel–titanium SMA is considered in a minaret of an old church transformed into a mosque to control the seismic response in terms of displacements, stresses and accelerations. The assessment of the seismic behavior was performed based on a modal and then transient analysis with Ansys software. The main objective was to determine the effectiveness of the addition of shape memory alloys by varying their number.

Objective: The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate fertility in the Philadelphia-negative MPN male patients and the effect of treatment received on male fertility and the outcome. Methodology: This is a single-center, mixed-design study (retrospective + phone interviews) conducted within the National Center for Cancer Care and Research. Results: 120 patients were interviewed, only 19 patients (15.7%) had met the inclusion criteria. The majority of patients had lost follow-up or cannot be contacted, and 29.1% of patients had their families completed by the time of diagnosis. The treatment received includes hydroxyurea, interferon, and ruxolitinib. The mode of delivery was normal vaginal delivery in 68% of the pregnancies. The total number of conceptions was 27; three stillbirths were reported. Conclusion: The data showed that most MPN male patients on treatment had their offspring born normally with no delivery complications, no reported congenital anomaly or growth retardation, and no report of MPN-related cancers. Though, further studies with a larger sample size are required to fully understand the effect of medications on the outcome of fatherhood in Philadelphia negative MPN patients.

Since the early 2000s, the experimental and theoretical studies of photothermal effects in plasmonics have been mainly oriented toward systems composed of nanoparticles, mostly motivated by applications in biomedecine, and have overlooked the case of plasmonic resonances of nanoholes in metal layers (also called nanopores or nano-apertures). Yet, more and more applications based on plasmonic nanoholes have been reported these last years (e.g., optical trapping, molecular sensing, and surface-enhanced Raman scattering), and photothermal effects can be unexpectedly high for this kind of systems, mainly because of the very large amount of metal under illumination, compared with nanoparticle systems. Nanoholes in metal layers involve a fully different photothermodynamical picture, and few of what is known about nanoparticles can be applied with nanoholes. A plasmonic nanohole mixes localized and surfaces plasmons, along with heat transport in a two-dimensional highly conductive layer, making the underlying photothermodynamical physics particularly complex. This Tutorial is aimed to provide a comprehensive description of the photothermal effects in plasmonics when metal layers are involved, based on experimental, theoretical, and numerical results. Photothermal effects in metal layers (embedded or suspended) are first described in detail, followed by the study of nanoholes, where we revisit the concept of absorption cross section and discuss the influences of parameters such as layer thickness, layer composition, nanohole size and geometry, adhesion layer, thermal radiation, and illumination wavelength.

Background Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder presented by light-pink or red thick skin plaques covered with whites scales, and it negatively affects patients’ quality of life. Aim The aim was to evaluate the serum level of elafin in patients with psoriasis and its correlation with the disease severity. Patients and methods This a case–control study that included 90 subjects classified into group I, which included 60 patients with moderate to severe psoriasis according to psoriasis area severity index (PASI), and group II, which included 30 apparent healthy age-matched and sex-matched participants as a control group. All patients were subjected to history taking, including age, duration, family history, and previous treatment; complete general examination, including weight, height, and blood pressure; complete dermatological examination; severity assessed by PASI score; and elafin serum level measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). Results The mean serum elafin level in the case group was 6.09±8.91, which was significantly higher than the level in the control group (0.40±0.35), with P less than 0.001. There was a positive significant correlation between elafin level and PASI in the case group (r=0.467 and P

River flooding is a natural phenomenon that can have a devastating effect on human life and economic losses. There have been various approaches in studying river flooding; however, insufficient understanding and limited knowledge about flooding conditions hinder the development of prevention and control measures for this natural phenomenon. This paper entails a new approach for the prediction of water level in association with flood severity using the ensemble model. Our approach leverages the latest developments in the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning for the automated analysis of flood data that might be useful to prevent natural disasters. Research outcomes indicate that ensemble learning provides a more reliable tool to predict flood severity levels. The experimental results indicate that the ensemble learning using the Long-Short Term memory model and random forest outperformed individual models with a sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of 71.4%, 85.9%, 81.13%, respectively.

A two-dimensional finite element analysis has been performed to investigate hydromechanical and conventional deep drawing processes. The effects of the fluid structure interaction on the material formability, the strain and the thickness distributions are investigated. Large plastic deformation is observed in the plank at the bottom and the corner of the punch. Plastic deformation distribution results show a difference between the hydromechanical deep drawing process and the conventional deep drawing which is due to the friction effect. This latter represents one of the major features of the hydromechanical deep drawing process. Concerning the formability of the blank, the obtained results show that the hydromechanical deep drawing process gives a better formability than the conventional deep drawing process.

Abstract Objectives Epilepsy constitutes a major public health concern in the world particularly in developing countries, especially in sub‐Saharan African countries. We designed this study to evaluate epilepsy management at a tertiary referral center in Niger to obtain a comprehensive understanding to determine the intrahospital deficiencies to improve and to make recommendations in terms to improve epilepsy management in Niger. Methods We conducted a retrospective study at the Neurology Outpatient Clinic of the National Hospital of Niamey (Niger) between May 2013 and May 2018 (5 years), collecting all cases of patients diagnosed with epilepsy by the neurologists. From the registers of consultation, we collected for each patient the demographic, clinical, etiological, and therapeutic data, as well as the outcomes during follow‐up visits. Results Of the 4576 patients seen during the period of the study, 1350 patients consulted for epilepsy with a hospital frequency of 29.5%. The mean age of the patients was 18.55 ± 17.15 years (range: 3 months to 83 years) with a predominance of the male sex (sex ratio at 1.5). Patients younger than 20 years were the most represented (61.6%). All patients underwent EEG. Only 463 patients (35.2%) underwent brain imaging. Generalized tonic‐clonic seizures were the most frequent (50%) followed by typical absences seizures (11.8%). Cerebrovascular disease, central nervous system infections, and head injuries were the main etiologies. First‐generation AEDs were the most prescribed (99%). The proportion of patients with drug‐resistance was 9.6%. Significance Our study shows limited access to newer generation AEDs and diagnostic tests of epilepsy in Niger. Considerable efforts should be made to facilitate for people living with epilepsy the accessibility to diagnostic tests and newer generation AEDs in order to improve the quality of epilepsy management in Niger.

Ciguatera poisoning (CP) is one of the most common causes worldwide of marine poisoning associated with fish consumption from tropical areas. Its incidence is underreported. CP cases seem to increase with grouped cases reported during summer. Exposure to ciguatoxins, toxins responsible for CP with sodium-channel agonistic, voltage-gated potassium channel blocking, cholinergic, and adrenergic activities, may result in a large spectrum of manifestations. We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics, management, and outcome of CP in Martinique, French West Indies. We conducted an observational retrospective single-center study during six years (October 2012 to September 2018) including all CP patients managed by the prehospital medical services, admitted to the university hospital emergency department, or declared to the regional health agency. A total of 149 CP patients (81 females/63 males; median age, 46 years (interquartile range, 34–61)) were included. Acute features consisted in general (91%; mainly, myalgia pruritus, and asthenia), gastrointestinal (90%; mainly diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea), neurological (72%; mainly, paresthesia, dysgeusia, and impairment of hot/cold feeling), and cardiovascular manifestations (22%; bradycardia, hypotension, and heart conduction disorders). Management was supportive. No patient died but symptoms persisted in 40% of the 77 patients with follow-up at day 15. CP was mainly attributed to the ingestion of trevallies (59%), snappers (13%), and king mackerels (8%) with collective contaminations (71%). Unusual fish (tuna, salmon, and spider conchs) were suspected in rare cases. Ingestion of trevallies was associated with significantly higher persistent symptoms (odds ratio, 3.00; 95% confidence interval, (1.20–8.00); p = 0.03). CP incidence was 0.67 cases per 10,000 patient-years in Martinique over the study period. To conclude, CP represents an increasing public health issue in Martinique, as is the case in other Caribbean islands. Patients present usual but possibly life-threatening features. Outcome is excellent despite frequently prolonged manifestations.

Based on the characteristic mode theory, a versatile radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna is proposed. The analysis starts from two parallel metallic plates with the same and different dimensions. By means of two PIN diodes, the size of one of the parallel metallic plates can be modified and consequently the behavior of the radiation pattern can be switched between bidirectional and unidirectional radiation patterns. Moreover, a SPDT switch is used to adjust the frequency and match the input impedance. The reconfigurable antenna prototype has been assembled and tested, and a good agreement between simulated and measured results is obtained at 2.5 GHz band which fits the IoT applications.

The key challenge in the synthesis of composite mixed matrix membrane (MMMs) is the incompatible membrane fabrication using porous support in the dry–wet phase inversion technique. The key objective of this research is to synthesize thin composite ternary (amine) mixed matrix membranes on microporous support by incorporating 10 wt% of carbon molecular sieve (CMS) and 5–15 wt% of diethanolamine (DEA) in polyethersulfone (PES) dope solution for the separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) from methane (CH4) at high-pressure applications. The developed membranes were evaluated for their morphological structure, thermal and mechanical stabilities, functional groups, as well as for CO2-CH4 separation performance at high pressure (10–30 bar). The results showed that the developed membranes have asymmetric structure, and they are mechanically strong at 30 bar. This new class of PES/CMS/DEA composite MMMs exhibited improved gas permeance compared to pure PES composite polymeric membrane. CO2-CH4 perm-selectivity enhanced from 8.15 to 16.04 at 15 wt% of DEA at 30 bar pressure. The performance of amine composite MMMs is theoretically predicted using a modified Maxwell model. The predictions were in good agreement with experimental data after applying the optimized values with AARE % = ∼less than 2% and R2 = 0.99.

Neuronal circuits integrating Parvalbumin-positive GABAergic inhibitory interneurons (PV) are essential for normal brain function and are often altered in psychiatric conditions. During development, Dlx5 and Dlx6 (Dlx5/6) genes are involved in the differentiation of PV-interneurons. In the adult, Dlx5/6 continue to be expressed at low levels in most telencephalic GABAergic neurons, but their importance in determining the number and distribution of adult PV-interneurons is unknown. Previously, we have shown that targeted deletion of Dlx5/6 in mouse GABAergic neurons (Dlx5/6VgatCre mice) results in altered behavioural and metabolic profiles. Here we evaluate the consequences of targeted Dlx5/6 gene dosage alterations in adult GABAergic neurons. We compare the effects on normal brain of homozygous and heterozygous (Dlx5/6VgatCre and Dlx5/6VgatCre/+ mice) Dlx5/6 deletions to those of Dlx5 targeted overexpression (GABAergicDlx5/+ mice). We find a linear correlation between Dlx5/6 allelic dosage and the density of PV-positive neurons in the adult prelimbic cortex and in the hippocampus. In parallel, we observe that Dlx5/6 expression levels in GABAergic neurons are also linearly associated with the intensity of anxiety and compulsivity-like behaviours. Our findings reinforce the notion that regulation of Dlx5/6 expression is involved in individual cognitive variability and, possibly, in the genesis of certain neuropsychiatric conditions.

Objective: To present tactics for optimizing outpatient vaginal hysterectomy and describe perioperative outcomes in a large consecutive case series.Methods: This is a descriptive study and review of clinical outcomes in 1,071 patients selected to undergo vaginal hysterectomy for benign indications from 2000 to 2010. The setting is a single-surgeon private practice in a community hospital. Outcome measures include length of hospital stay, estimated blood loss, operative time, uterine weight, and perioperative complications, including hospital readmissions and emergency room visits.Results: One thousand seventy-one of 1,162 cases (92%, 95% confidence interval [CI] 90.5-93.7) were total vaginal hysterectomies, of which 1,029 (96%, 95% CI 94.9-97.3) were discharged the same day after surgery. The median operative time was 34 minutes (range 17-210 minutes), and estimated blood loss was 45 mL (range 5-800 mL). The median patient age was 46 years (range 27-86 years), and median uterine weight was 160 g (range 25-1,380 g). One hundred ninety-three patients (18%, 95% CI 15.8-20.5) were nulliparous and 218 (20%, 95% CI 18-22.9) had prior pelvic surgery. Five patients (0.5%, 95% CI 0.2-1.1) required readmission or emergency room evaluation within the first 30 days.Conclusion: Vaginal hysterectomy can be successfully adopted as a same-day discharge procedure. In this population, regardless of previous pelvic surgery or nulliparity, good perioperative outcomes have been achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Business processes represent a cornerstone to the operation of any enterprise. They are the operational means for such organizations to fulfill their goals. Nowadays, enterprises are able to gather massive amounts of event data. These are generated as business processes are executed and stored in transaction logs, databases, e-mail correspondences, free form text on (enterprise) social media, and so on. Taping into these data, enterprises would like to weave data analytic techniques into their decision making capabilities. In recent years, the IT industry has witnessed significant advancements in the domain of Big Data analytics. Unfortunately, the business process management (BPM) community has not kept up to speed with such developments and often rely merely on traditional modeling-based approaches. New ways of effectively exploiting such data are not sufficiently used. In this paper, we advocate that a good understanding of the business process and Big Data worlds can play an effective role in improving the efficiency and the quality of various data-intensive business operations using a wide spectrum of emerging Big Data systems. Moreover, we coin the term process footprint as a wider notion of process data than that is currently perceived in the BPM community. A roadmap towards taking business process data intensive operations to the next level is shaped in this paper.

Abstract Objective We aimed firstly to evaluate knowledge, attitudes, and practices about epilepsy among primary and secondary school teachers in the city of Niamey and secondly to formulate targeted sensitization messages for these teachers. Materials and methods A descriptive cross‐sectional survey was carried out among primary and secondary school teachers in the city of Niamey, capital of Niger, using a self‐administered questionnaire including questions related to knowledge, attitudes, and practices about epilepsy. Results One hundred and forty‐five (145) teachers aged 27–69 (mean age: 39.57 ± 8.304 years) had answered the questionnaire (52 men and 93 women). In 62.1% of cases, respondents had a bachelor degree in education signifying a high level of education. Sixty‐one respondents (42.1%) considered epilepsy as a brain disease, whereas it was considered as a psychiatric illness by 15.9% of respondents and as an impurity by 38.9%. Sixteen respondents (11%) considered it as a hereditary disease. Epilepsy was considered as a contagious disease by 46.2% of teachers, and the main transmission routes reported were contact with places of crisis (26.2%), physical contact with an epileptic person (16.6%), and contact with saliva (6.9%). It was considered as an incurable disease by 6.9% of teachers. Of the 115 respondents (79.3%) who considered epilepsy as a treatable condition, 46 of them believe that epilepsy is treated by traditional medicine. When someone has an epileptic seizure, 28.3% of respondents think that physical contact with him should be avoided and that the places of the crisis should be avoided. Conclusion Considering that epilepsy is common in school‐age, the study results suggest the need to train teachers with respect to epilepsy to change misconceptions about epilepsy and to promote positive attitudes toward epileptic people to avoid the rejection of these people by the society responsible for problems of social integration.

This study focuses on the effect of modified silica fillers by [EMIN][Tf2N] via physical adsorption on the CO2 separation performance of a mixed matrix membrane (MMM). The IL-modified silica was successfully synthesized as the presence of fluorine element was observed in both Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) analyses. The prepared MMMs with different loadings of the IL-modified silica were then compared with an unmodified silica counterpart and neat membrane. The morphology of IL-modified MMMs was observed to have insignificant changes, while polymer chains of were found to be slightly more flexible compared to their counterpart. At 2 bar of operating pressure, a significant increase in performance was observed with the incorporation of 3 wt% Sil-IL fillers compared to that of pure polycarbonate (PC). The permeability increased from 353 to 1151 Barrer while the CO2/CH4 selectivity increased from 20 to 76. The aforementioned increment also exceeded the Robeson upper bound. This indicates that the incorporation of fillers surface-modified with ionic liquid in an organic membrane is worth exploring for CO2 separation.

Introduction: Stillbirth is a devastating pregnancy outcome and is often defined as fetal death after 20 weeks of gestation. Annually, 2.6 million stillbirths occur worldwide, 98% in developing countries. It is crucial that we understand the causes and contributing factors. This study was performed with aim to evaluate the factors associated with stillbirth in pregnant women admitted in Imam Reza Teaching Hospital in Kermanshah, Iran (2011-2014). Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 423 cases of stillbirth in Imam Reza Teaching Hospital in Kermanshah during 2011-2014. Demographic data and target variables such as fetal, maternal, placental, amniotic fluid, uterine, trauma, and causes were recorded in data collection forms. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 16). Results: Among 15376 births, 423 cases of stillbirth (2.75%) were registered. The causes of stillbirth were as follows: 117 cases (27.66%) fetal problems with the most frequency in gestational age of less than 27 weeks, 21 (4.96%) umbilical cord problems with the most frequency at 27-34 weeks of gestation, 68 (16.07%) placental problems with the most frequency at 27-34 weeks of gestation, 147 (34.75%) amniotic fluid problems with the most frequency in less than 27 weeks of gestation, 42 (9.93%) uterus problems with the most frequency in more than 34 weeks of gestation, 149 (35.22%) maternal problems with the most frequency in less than 27 weeks of gestation, 42 (9.93%) due to trauma and often in less than 27 weeks of gestation, and 73 (17.26%) were classified as unknown. Conclusion: The maternal, fetal and amniotic fluid problems were the most cause of stillbirth and it is required to be paid more attention in prenatal care.

Ionic liquid mixed matrix membranes (IL3Ms) were synthesized using polyethersulfone (PES) as the base polymer and silica-aluminophosphate (SAPO-34) as the dispersed particles, and their CO2 permeation was investigated. Three of the most widely used models for gas separation—the Maxwell, Lewis–Nielson, and Maxwell–Wagner–Sillar (MWS) models—were then applied to the membranes. Large deviations were found between the model predictions and experimental data. FESEM images suggested that local agglomeration and disorientation of the SAPO-34 particles within the membrane afforded substantial changes in the morphology. The MWS model, which considers the shape factor, was modified to incorporate the volume fraction of the wetted dispersed phase and the ideal shape factor. A direct relationship was found between the filler concentration and the shape factor. The modified model was shown to produce absolute and relative errors of less than 3%. When validated against data from the literature, the deviation remained within 5%. The modified model can be used to estimate the gas permeance of an IL3M.

A frequency reconfigurable patch antenna design based on the characteristic mode analysis is presented. The antenna presents a reconfigurable lower band and a steady band at higher frequencies. A slot is etched on the ground plane of the antenna, where two varactor diodes are placed on each side of the slot in order to tune the lower band. The first resonant frequency shifts down by varying the reverse voltage of the varactor, whereas the second operating frequency keeps stable. The proposed antenna is designed to cover WLAN bands, offering a first band operating at 2 GHz and a second band ranging from 5.3 GHz to 5.8 GHz. A prototype has been fabricated and measurements are provided, which validate the proposed analysis, method, and design procedure.

The Artificial Neural Networks Training (ANNT) process is an optimization problem of the weight set which has inspired researchers for a long time. By optimizing the training of the neural networks using optimal weight set, better results can be obtained by the neural networks. Traditional neural networks algorithms such as Back Propagation (BP) were used for ANNT, but they have some drawbacks such as computational complexity and getting trapped in the local minima. Therefore, evolutionary algorithms like the Swarm Intelligence (SI) algorithms have been employed in ANNT to overcome such issues. Artificial Bees Colony (ABC) optimization algorithm is one of the competitive algorithms in the SI algorithms group. However, hybrid algorithms are also a fundamental concern in the optimization field, which aim to cumulate the advantages of different algorithms into one algorithm. In this work, we aimed to highlight the performance of the Hybrid Particle-move Artificial Bee Colony (HPABC) algorithm by applying it on the ANNT application. The performance of the HPABC algorithm was investigated on four benchmark pattern-classification datasets and the results were compared with other algorithms. The results obtained illustrate that HPABC algorithm can efficiently be used for ANNT. HPABC outperformed the original ABC and PSO as well as other state-of-art and hybrid algorithms in terms of time, function evaluation number and recognition accuracy.

We have developed a new extraction and purification method for high sensitive determination of four pesticides, Demethoate (Di), Chlorpyrifos-ethyl (CPE), Deltamethrin (Del) and Cypermethrin (Cyp) from vegetables. The method involves the extraction of samples with acetone and Ethylacetate:Hexane (95:5,v/v) mixture, purification using Florisil cartridges at optimum eluting ratio of 5% acetone in hexane, then followed by gas chromatography using electron capture detection (ECD). Under the optimized condition, the recovery of the pesticides from vegetables reach the range of (80–112%) with RSD% ⩽ 5% (n = 3), the limit of detection for Di, CPE, Cyp, and Del, were 1, 0.96, 1.3, and 1.9 ng mL−1, and the limit of quantification was 3.3, 2.9, 3.9, and 5.8 ng mL−1, respectively. This analytical procedure was characterized with high accuracy and acceptable sensitivity to meet the requirements for monitoring pesticides in vegetables. The method was applied successfully for the determination of pesticides in some local vegetable contamination.

Grafted anionic polyacrylamide gel has been synthesised in the laboratory following radical polymerisation process. Kinetics of thermal degradation of synthesised gel was evaluated under nonisthothermal condition by integral approximation method to determine the thermal stability of the material from thermogavometric study. The activation energy for the thermal degradation was found to be significantly high for the gel material.

This paper presents an approach that builds upon social computing principles to make business processes “socialize”. First the approach identifies the main components of a business process that are task, person, andmachine. A task is a work unit that forms with other tasks a business process and that a person and/or machine execute. Afterwards the approach enriches a business process with details captured from the (execution and social) relations that connect tasks together, persons together, and machines together. While execution relations are widely reported in the literature, there is a growing interest in studying the role of socialrelations in business processes. The approach uses social relations to build configuration network of tasks, social network of persons, and support network of machines. These networks capture the ongoing interactionsthat arise when business processes are executed. A system illustrating how these networks are developed is also demonstrated in the paper.

The ash of C. polygonoides (locally called balanza) was collected from Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and was utilized as biosorbent for methylene blue (MB) removal from aqueous solution. The ash was used as biosorbent without any physical or chemical treatment. The biosorbent was characterized by using various techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The particle size and surface area were measured using particle size analyzer and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller equation (BET), respectively. The SEM and BET results expressed that the adsorbent has porous nature. Effects of various conditions such as initial concentration of methylene blue (MB), initial pH, contact time, dosage of biosorbent, and stirring rate were also investigated for the adsorption process. The rate of the adsorption of MB on biomass sample was fast, and equilibrium has been achieved within 1 hour. The kinetics of MB adsorption on biosorbent was studied by pseudo-first- and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the pseudo-second-order has better mathematical fit with correlation coefficient value (R2) of 0.999. The study revealed that C. polygonoides ash proved to be an effective, alternative, inexpensive, and environmentally benign biosorbent for MB removal from aqueous solution.

The phase separation behavior of bisphenol-A-polycarbonate (PC), dissolved in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and dichloromethane solvents in coagulant water, was studied by the cloud point method. The respective cloud point data were determined by titration against water at room temperature and the characteristic binodal curves for the ternary systems were plotted. Further, the physical properties such as viscosity, refractive index, and density of the solution were measured. The critical polymer concentrations were determined from the viscosity measurements. PC/NMP and PC/DCM membranes were fabricated by the dry-wet phase inversion technique and characterized for their morphology, structure, and thermal stability using field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, respectively. The membranes’ performances were tested for their permeance to CO2, CH4, and N2 gases at 24 ± 0.5 °C with varying feed pressures from 2 to 10 bar. The PC/DCM membranes appeared to be asymmetric dense membrane types with appreciable thermal stability, whereas the PC/NMP membranes were observed to be asymmetric with porous structures exhibiting 4.18% and 9.17% decrease in the initial and maximum degradation temperatures, respectively. The ideal CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivities of the PC/NMP membrane decreased with the increase in feed pressures, while for the PC/DCM membrane, the average ideal CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivities were found to be 25.1 ± 0.8 and 21.1 ± 0.6, respectively. Therefore, the PC/DCM membranes with dense morphologies are appropriate for gas separation applications.

Renal infarction usually occurs in patients with severe atherosclerosis or heart disease. We report a 68-year-old lady who presented with total occlusion of the left renal artery of acute onset. Detailed work up did not reveal any specific cause and the infarction was considered to be idiopathic. The patient presented two-and-half years later with atrial fibrillation, which was managed with anti-arrhythmic drugs. Retrospectively, we believe that the cause of renal infarction was embolization secondary to paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. She is doing well on anti-coagulants and anti-arrhythmic drugs and was maintaining sinus rhythm when last seen.

In the last few decades, membrane technology has been a great attention for gas separation technology especially for natural gas sweetening. The intrinsic character of membranes makes them fit for process escalation, and this versatility could be the significant factor to induce membrane technology in most gas separation areas. Membranes were synthesized with various materials which depended on the applications. The fabrication of polymeric membrane was one of the fastest growing fields of membrane technology. However, polymeric membranes could not meet the separation performances required especially in high operating pressure due to deficiencies problem. The chemistry and structure of support materials like inorganic membranes were also one of the focus areas when inorganic membranes showed some positive results towards gas separation. However, the materials are somewhat lacking to meet the separation performance requirement. Mixed matrix membrane (MMM) which is comprising polymeric and inorganic membranes presents an interesting approach for enhancing the separation performance. Nevertheless, MMM is yet to be commercialized as the material combinations are still in the research stage. This paper highlights the potential promising areas of research in gas separation by taking into account the material selections and the addition of a third component for conventional MMM.

With the development of robotics technology, there is a growing demand for robots to perform path planning autonomously. Therefore, rapidly and safely planning travel routes has become an important research direction for autonomous mobile robots. This paper elaborates on traditional path-planning algorithms and the limitations of these algorithms in practical applications. Meanwhile, in response to these limitations, it reviews the current research status of recent improvements to these traditional algorithms. The results indicate that these improved path-planning algorithms perform well in tests or practical applications, and multi-algorithm fusion for path planning outperforms single-algorithm path planning.

Microbial combating is one of the hot research topics, and finding an alternative strategy is considerably required nowadays. Here, we report on a developed combined chemo- and photodynamic delivery system with a core of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), porphyrin photosensitizer (POR) connected to alginate polymer (ALG), and berberine (alkaloid natural agent, BER) with favorable antimicrobial effects. According to the achieved main designs, the results demonstrated that the loading capacity and entrapment efficiency reached 22.2 wt % and 95.2%, respectively, for ZnO@ALG-POR/BER nanoformulation (second design) compared to 5.88 wt % and 45.1% for ZnOBER@ALG-POR design (first design). Importantly, when the intended nanoformulations were combined with laser irradiation for 10 min, they showed effective antifungal and antibacterial action against Candida albicans , Escherichia coli , and Staphylococcus aureus . Comparing these treatments to ZnO NPs and free BER, a complete (100%) suppression of bacterial and fungal growth was observed by ZnO@ALG-POR/BER nanoformulation treated E. coli , and by ZnOBER treated C. albicans . Also, after laser treatments, most data showed that E. coli was more sensitive to treatments using nanoformulations than S. aureus . The nanoformulations like ZnOBER@ALG-POR were highly comparable to traditional antibiotics against C. albicans and E. coli before laser application. The results of the cytotoxicity assessment demonstrated that the nanoformulations exhibited moderate biocompatibility on normal human immortalized retinal epithelial (RPE1) cells. Notably, the most biocompatible nanoformulation was ZnOBER@ALG-POR, which possessed ∼9% inhibition of RPE1 cells compared to others. High binding affinities were found between all three microbial strains' receptor proteins and ligands in the molecular docking interaction between the receptor proteins and the ligand molecules (mostly BER and POR). In conclusion, our findings point to the possible use of hybrid nanoplatform delivery systems that combine natural agents and photodynamic therapy into a single therapeutic agent, effectively combating microbial infections. Therapeutic efficiency correlates with nanoformulation design and microorganisms, demonstrating possible optimization for further development.

Objectives: To measure the expression level of the vacuolar protein sorting 13 (VPS13) gene and stimulator of interferon genes (STING) in patients with SLE with and without reported neuropsychiatric symptoms to establish their possible role in the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric SLE (NPSLE)., Methods: This study included 100 subjects: 50 patients diagnosed with SLE and 50 age-matched and sex-matched healthy participants as the control group. The patients with SLE were further subdivided into NPSLE and non-NPSLE groups. All the subjects underwent rheumatological, neurological and psychological evaluation, MRI, VPS13C gene and STING expression assessment via quantitative real-time PCR., Results: Seventy-eight per cent of the SLE group were classified as non-NPSLE, and 22% were classified as NPSLE. Positive MRI results were found in 55% of the patients with NPSLE and 7.7% of the patients without NPSLE.VPS13C expression levels were decreased in the patients with SLE compared with the control (p<0.001), while STING expression levels showed higher levels in the patients in comparison with the control (p<0.001). Both markers showed significant differences between the MRI-positive and MRI-negative groups.At a cut-off value of 0.225 for the VPS13C assessment and a cut-off value of 3.15 for STING expression, both markers were able to distinguish patients with NPSLE from those who were non-NPSLE; however, VPS13C performed better., Conclusion: The VPS13C expression levels were decreased in patients with NPSLE compared with patients without NPSLE, while STING expression levels showed higher levels in NPSLE. Both were associated with the MRI findings. Introduction: In recent years, enzalutamide and abiraterone have been widely used as treatments for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). However, the cost-effectiveness of these drugs in Iran is unknown. This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of enzalutamide for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer resistant to castration in Iran., Methods: A 3-state Markov model was developed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of enzalutamide and abiraterone from a social perspective over 10 years. The clinical inputs were obtained from the meta-analysis studies. The direct medical costs were obtained from the tariffs of the healthcare system, while the direct non-medical and indirect costs were collected from the patients. The data of utilities were derived from the literature. In addition, sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the uncertainties., Results: Compared with Abiraterone, enzalutamide was associated with a high incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of $6,260 per QALY gained. According to the one-way sensitivity analysis, ICER was most heavily influenced by the prices of enzalutamide and Abiraterone, non-medical costs, and indirect costs. Regardless of the variation, enzalutamide remained cost-effective. The budget impact analysis of enzalutamide in the health system during 5 years was estimated at $6,362,127., Conclusions: At current prices, adding enzalutamide to pharmaceutical lists represents the cost-effective use of the healthcare resources in Iran for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer., (© 2024. This review highlights the largely understudied behavior of gliding locomotion, which is exhibited by a diverse range of animals spanning vertebrates and invertebrates, in air and in water. The insights in the literature gained from January 2022 to December 2022 continue to challenge the previously held notion of gliding as a relatively simple form of locomotion. Using advances in field/lab data collection and computation, the highlighted studies cover gliding in animals including seabirds, flying lizards, flying snakes, geckos, dragonflies, damselflies, and dolphins. Altogether, these studies present gliding as a sophisticated behavior resulting from the interdependent aspects of morphology, sensing, environment, and likely selective pressures. This review uses these insights as inspiration to encourage researchers to revisit gliding locomotion, both in the animal's natural habitat and in the laboratory, and to investigate questions spanning gliding biomechanics, ecology, sensing, and the evolution of animal flight., Competing Interests: Competing interests The authors declare no competing or financial interests., (© 2023. Increased tissue rigidity is able to activate the Hippo signaling pathway, leading to YAP inactivation by phosphorylation and translocation into the cytoplasm. Accumulating evidence suggests that cytoplasmic pYAP serves as a tumor suppressor and could be a prognostic biomarker for several solid cancers. However, the relationship between tissue rigidity and cytoplasmic pYAP expression in the early stage of lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) remains elusive; this was determined in this study by using a mouse model. Female BALB/c mice were assigned into two groups (n = 6; the vehicle (VC) and the pre-malignant (PM) group, which received 70% acetone and 0.04 M N-nitroso-tris-chloroethylurea (NTCU) for 15 weeks, respectively. In this study, the formation of hyperplasia and metaplasia lesions was found in the PM group, indicating the pre-malignant stage of lung SCC. The pre-malignant tissue appeared to be more rigid as characterized by significantly higher (p < 0.05) epithelium thickness, proliferative activity, and collagen content than the VC group. The PM group also had a significantly higher (p < 0.05) cytoplasmic pYAP protein expression than the VC group. In conclusion, increased tissue rigidity may contribute to the upregulation of cytoplasmic pYAP expression, which may act as a tumor suppressor in the early stage of lung SCC.

Increased tissue rigidity is an emerging hallmark of cancer as it plays a critical role in promoting cancer growth. However, the field lacks a defined characterization of tissue rigidity in dual-stage carcinogenesis of lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in vivo. Pre-malignant and malignant lung SCC was developed in BALB/c mice using N-nitroso-tris-chloroethylurea (NTCU). Picro sirius red staining and atomic force microscopy were performed to measure collagen content and collagen (diameter and rigidity), respectively. Then, the expression of tenascin C (TNC) protein was determined using immunohistochemistry staining. Briefly, all tissue rigidity parameters were found to be increased in the Cancer group as compared with the Vehicle group. Importantly, collagen content (33.63 ± 2.39%) and TNC expression (7.97 ± 2.04%) were found to be significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the Malignant Cancer group, as compared with the collagen content (18.08 ± 1.75%) and TNC expression (0.45 ± 0.53%) in the Pre-malignant Cancer group, indicating increased tissue rigidity during carcinogenesis of lung SCC. Overall, tissue rigidity of lung SCC was suggested to be increased during carcinogenesis as indicated by the overexpression of collagen and TNC protein, which may warrant further research as novel therapeutic targets to treat lung SCC effectively.

Three rings 2-hydroxypyridine liquid crystalline compounds have been prepared and fully characterized. The mesomorphic behavior of the prepared compounds has been investigated in terms of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). Moreover, a comparative study between the prepared compounds and previously reported analogs has been discussed in terms of the orientation and position of the mesogenic core, in addition to the direction of the terminal alkyl chains. Furthermore, a detailed computational approach has been studied to illustrate the effect of geometrical and dimensional parameters on the type of the enhanced texture and the mesomorphic range and stability. The results of the DFT study revealed that the orientation of the mesogen could affect the mesomorphic behavior and this has been attributed in terms of the degree of the polarizability of the linking groups. This result has been confirmed by calculation of the net dipole moment and the molecular electrostatic potential that show how the mesogen orientation and position could impact the molecular charge separation. Finally, the effect of the pyridyl group has been also investigated in terms of the calculated aromaticity index and the π-π stacking.

Density functional theory was used to calculate C-H bond dissociation enthalpies (BDEs) at each position of a diverse collection of pyranosides and furanosides differing in relative configuration and substitution patterns. A detailed analysis of the resulting data set (186 BDEs, calculated at the M06-2X/def2-TZVP level of theory) highlights the ways in which stereoelectronic effects, conformational properties, and noncovalent interactions can influence the strengths of C-H bonds in carbohydrates. The results point toward opportunities to alter the radical reactivity of carbohydrate derivatives by variation of their stereochemical configuration or the positions and types of protective groups.

Mice have served as an excellent model to understand the etiology of lung cancer for years. However, data regarding dual-stage carcinogenesis of lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) remain elusive. Therefore, we aim to develop pre-malignant (PM) and malignant (M) lung SCC in vivo using N-nitroso-tris-chloroethylurea (NTCU). BALB/C mice were allotted into two main groups; PM and M groups which received treatment for 15 and 30 weeks, respectively. Then, the mice in each main group were allotted into three groups; control, vehicle, and cancer (n = 6), which received normal saline, 70% acetone, and 0.04 M NTCU by skin painting, respectively. Histopathologically, we discovered a mix of hyperplasia, metaplasia, and dysplasia lesions in the PM group and intracellular bridge; an SCC feature in the M group. The M group was positive for cytokeratin 5/6 protein which confirmed the lung SCC subtype. We also found significantly higher (P < 0.05) epithelium thickness in the cancer groups as compared to the vehicle and control groups at both the PM and M. Overall, this study discovered that NTCU is capable of developing PM and M lung SCC in mice model at appropriate weeks and the vehicle group was suggested to be adequate as control group for future research., (© 2021. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a pandemic fatal infection with no known treatment. The severity of the disease and the fast viral mutations forced the scientific community to search for potential solution. Here in the present manuscript, some benzofused1,2,3triazolesulfonamide hybrids were synthesized and evaluated for their anti- SARS-CoV-2 activity using in silico prediction then the most potent compounds were assessed using in-Vitro analysis. The in-Silico study was assessed against RNA dependent RNA polymerase, Spike protein S1, Main protease (3CLpro) and 2'-O-methyltransferase (nsp16). It was found that 4b and 4c showed high binding scores against RNA dependent RNA polymerase reached -8.40 and -8.75 ​kcal/mol, respectively compared to the approved antiviral (remdesivir -6.77 ​kcal/mol). Upon testing the binding score with SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein it was revealed that 4c exhibited the highest score (-7.22 ​kcal/mol) compared to the reference antibacterial drug Ceftazidime (-6.36 ​kcal/mol). Surprisingly, the two compounds 4b and 4c showed the highest binding scores against SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro (-8.75, -8.48 ​kcal/mol, respectively) and nsp16 (- 8.84 and - 8.89 ​kcal/mol, respectively) displaying many types of interaction with all the enzymes binding sites. The derivatives 4b and 4c were examined in vitro for their potential anti-SARS-CoV-2 and it was revealed that 4c was the most promising compound with IC50 reached 758.8108 ​mM and complete (100%) inhibition of the binding of SARS-CoV-2 virus to human ACE2 can be accomplished by using 0.01 ​mg., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (© 2021 Elsevier B.V.
