In this study, two novel biomimetic modular peptide motifs based on the alpha-2 subunit of type IV collagen (CO4A2) were designed and immobilized on a graphene platform to imitate integrin and heparan sulfate- (HS-) binding proteins. The in silico study was used to design 9-mer K[KGDRGD]AG and 10-mer KK[SGDRGD]AG for testing designed Integrin-Binding Peptide (dIBP) and HS-Binding Peptide (dHBP). The virtual docking technique was used to optimize the peptide motifs and their relevant receptors. Molecular dynamic (MD) simulation was used to evaluate the stability of peptide-receptor complexes. The effect of the platform on the differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) to hepatic-like cells (HLCs) was evaluated. After differentiation, some hepatic cells’ molecular markers such as albumin, AFP, CK-18, and CK-19 were successfully followed. Graphene-heparan sulfate binding peptide (G-HSBP) enhances the mature hepatic markers’ expression instead of control (p ≤ 0.05). The pathological study showed that the designed platform is safe, and no adverse effects were seen till 21 days after implantation.

Background and purpose: The new coronavirus (Covid-19) has resulted in great global concerns. Due to the mortality of this virus, scientists from all over the world have been trying to employ different strategies to tackle down this concern. This virus enters cells via phagocytosis through binding to the angiotensin-converting enzyme II receptor. After invading the body, it can stay hidden in there for a period of up to 24 days (incubation period). Experimental approach: In this report, by the use of in silico studies we selected several FDA-approved compounds that possess antiviral properties. We chose the viral Spike protein as the target of drug compounds and carried out the screening process for the FDA databank in order to find the most effective ligand. Findings/Results: The results from dock and MD revealed 10 compounds with high affinity to the receptor-binding domain motif of S protein. The best inhibitors were the ingredients of Depinar, which managed to effectively block the interactions between cells and virus. Conclusion and implication: The results of this study were approved by in silico studies and due to the lack of time; we did not test the efficiency of these compounds through in vitro and in vivo studies. However, the selected compounds are all FDA approved and some are supplements like vitamin B12 and don’t cause any side effects for patients.

Background: Spiritual well-being is the fundamental dimension of health that integrates the other dimensions (physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual) and is dynamically reflected in four domains of self, others, environment, and a superior being. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of positive and negative affects in the relationships of moral disengagement and spiritual well-being in university students in Tehran. Methods: The statistical population of this descriptive correlational study comprised all students of universities in Tehran in the academic year 2020-2021. A sample of 301 students (199 females and 102 males) was selected via convenience sampling. The research instruments included the Spiritual Well Being Scale (SWBS), the Moral Disengagement Questionnaire, and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Introduction Foreign body ingestion can lead to esophageal complications, including perforation and impaction, in up to 20% of cases, making it a critical situation. Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis can cause severe complications. Case presentation We present the case of a 78-year-old female who swallowed an acrylic partial denture leading to progressive dysphagia and a vegetative ulcerative lesion on endoscopy. The lesion was initially misdiagnosed as a neoplasm of the esophagus. CT scan and a repeat endoscopy revealed the presence of a denture in the esophagus. The denture was successfully removed with a rigid esophagoscope, and no evidence of complications was reported in follow-up visits. Discussion Diagnosis of esophageal foreign bodies involves imaging studies and endoscopy, which is the gold standard for diagnosis and management. Background: Obesity is one the most prevalent diseases all around the world. Some studies have shown a relationship between obesity and the worsening of rheumatic disorders. Higher rates of surgical complications might also be seen among these patients. Methods: This retrospective-descriptive study was performed on 25 patients with rheumatic disease referred to Loghman Hakim Hospital (Tehran- Iran) and candidates for bariatric surgery (laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) from 2018 to 2020. Duration of hospitalization after surgery and history of post-operation surgical and rheumatic complications were assessed. Patients were followed through 6 months after surgery. Results: The age (Mean±SD) of recruited patients was (38.4 ±10.0) years. The mean body mass index was 45.54 kg/m2 with the minimum and maximum values of 37.5 kg/m2 and 56.5 kg/m2. Among them, the prevalence of rheumatic disorders was rheumatoid arthritis 32%, psoriasis 28%, gout 16%, lupus erythematosus 8%, and other rheumatologic disorders 16%, respectively. One patient had a surgical complication that was a port site infection. One patient had a relapse of gout and other patients had remission and also, their therapeutic drugs were discontinued or reduced. Conclusion: Patients with rheumatic disorders revealed no higher surgical complication rate after bariatric surgery, and bariatric surgery helped disease remission among these patients. Background: Color stability of acrylic resin is one of the most important feature for denture wearers. Many patients use detergent solutions to remove denture stains. The purpose of this study was to evaluate color stability and surface roughness of two common acrylic resins in different detergent and tea solutions. Materials and Methods: 112 acrylic resin blocks of Meliodent and Acropars (each 56 blocks) were divided into seven groups of different treatment: 1% sodium hypochlorite for 10 min a day for 1 month (H10m), 1% sodium hypochlorite for 8 hours a day for 1 week (H&h), Correga tabs solution for 8 hours a day for 1 month (C&H), tea bag for 2 hours a day for 1 month (T2 h), tea bag for 2 hours a day then 10 min in 1% sodium hypochlorite for 1 month (T-H), tea bag for 2 hours then 8 hours in the Correga tab solution a day for 1 month (T-C), and finally distilled water for 1 month as a control group (con).
