Simple Summary: We investigated the effects of dietary oregano oil supplementation with different concentrations on the egg quality, intestinal morphology and cecal microbiome of late-phase laying hens. The results showed that dietary oregano oil supplementation could enhance eggshell thickness and increase the content of PUFA, thiamine, riboflavin, selenium and phosphorus in egg yolk. Meanwhile, oregano oil supplementation had a good effect on the intestinal morphology and structure of laying hens in the late laying period. The differential microorganisms were significantly correlated with egg quality characteristics. Oregano oil may enhance the amino acid content of eggs by increasing the abundance of Synergistota, which in turn enhances egg quality. These results will support the use of oregano oil as a new feed additive to improve egg quality. Overall, 25 mg/kg of dietary oregano oil had the best effects. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary oregano oil supplementation with different concentrations on the egg quality, intestinal morphology and cecal microbiome of late-phase laying hens. A total of 300 55-week-old Snowy white laying hens were randomly divided into five groups and fed a basal diet (control) or basal diets supplemented with oregano oil at 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg/kg (O25, O50, O75 and O100) over a 100-day period. Compared with the control group, eggshell thickness and eggshell weight were increased significantly in eggs when oregano oil was added (p < 0.05). The highest content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and C18:2n6c was observed in yolks with 25 mg/kg supplement among 5 groups (p < 0.05). The highest average content of riboflavin in egg yolk and thiamine in egg white was observed in the O25 group (p < 0.05). When the supplemental levels of oregano oil were 25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg, the selenium and phosphorus content in the egg was significantly increased (p < 0.05). The ratio of villus height to crypt depth (V/C) and villus height of the small intestine was significantly increased compared with the chickens fed the basal diet (p < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the abundance of Megamonas was increased in the O50 group (p < 0.05). The unclassified_o__Bacteroidales in the O25 group were significantly higher than those in the other four groups (p < 0.05). These differential microorganisms were significantly correlated with egg quality characteristics. Purpose: Adjacent disc degeneration (ADD) is a common postoperative complication after percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP). However, risk factors for ADD after PKP have not been reported. This study aimed to determine whether osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) following PKP is associated with a high risk for ADD and to identify the risk factors for ADD. Patients and methods: Consecutive patients who underwent PKP at our center between January 2015 and January 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. The incidence of ADD was calculated and specific subgroups of ADD were identified. Demographic, clinical baseline, and radiologic data were analyzed using univariate and multivariate analyses to identify the risk factors associated with ADD. Results: 130 eligible patients were included, and the incidence rate of ADD distinct from primary degeneration was 42.3%. Patients with OVCFs who underwent PKP had a high risk of developing ADD. The independent risk factors included the presence of intradiscal cement leakage (ICL; odds ratio [OR] 6.292; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.588– 15.299; P < 0.001) and pre-operative cranial disc of the injured vertebrae degeneration (Pfirrmann grade ≥IV; OR 3.575; 95% CI 1.515– 8.438; P = 0.004). Conclusion: Patients with OVCFs who underwent PKP were more likely to develop ADD, and most of the degenerated discs occurred in the vertebrae above the level of injury. ICL and pre-operative cranial disc of the injured vertebrae degeneration (Pfirrmann grade ≥IV) were independent risk factors for developing ADD in these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Achieving precise pedicle screw placement in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is essential but difficult due to the intricacies of manual preoperative planning with CT scans. We analyzed CT data from 316 PLIF patients, using Mimics software for manual planning by two surgeons. A deep learning model was trained on 228 patients and validated on 88 patients, assessing planning efficiency and accuracy. Automatic planning successfully segmented and placed screws in all 316 cases, significantly outperforming manual planning in speed. The Dice coefficient for segmentation accuracy was 0.95. The difference in mean pedicle transverse angle (PTA) and pedicle sagittal angle (PSA) for automatic planning screws compared to manual planning screws was 1.63 ± 0.83° and 1.39 ± 1.03°, respectively, and these differences were either statistically comparable or not significantly different compared to the variability of manual planning screws. The average Dice coefficient of implanted screws was 0.63 ± 0.08, and the consistency between automatic screws and manual reference screws was higher than that of internal screws (Dice 0.62 ± 0.09). Compared with manual screws, automatic screws were shorter (46.58 ± 3.09 mm) and thinner (6.24 ± 0.35 mm), and the difference was statistically significant. In qualitative validation, 97.7% of the automatic planning screws were rated Gertzbein–Robbins (GR) Class A and 97.3% of the automatic planning screws were rated Badu Class 0. Purpose: Percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) was used as a minimally invasive treatment option for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). However, studies focusing on the clinical outcomes of PTED for elderly patients with adjacent segment disease (ASD) were limited. This study aims to compare the clinical outcomes of PTED between ASD and LDH in elderly patients. Patients and Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 39 patients with ASD and 39 patients with LDH. Both groups had undergone PTED in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital from July 4, 2016 to July 30, 2021. Visual analog scale for back pain (VAS-BP) and leg pain (VAS-LP) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were used to value the clinical outcomes of patients preoperatively, immediately postoperatively, 12, and 24 months postoperatively, and at final follow-up. Patients' satisfaction was evaluated based on the MacNab criteria. Results: All operations were completed. The excellent or good clinical outcomes at final follow-up was demonstrated by 87.15% (34/39) and 89.74% (35/39) in ASD and non-ASD patients, respectively. Clinical improvement was observed immediately postoperatively in both groups and sustained stability during the postoperative follow-up. The ASD group demonstrated significantly longer hospital stays (p = 0.02) and operative time (p < 0.01) than the non-ASD group. Conclusion: PTED is an effective and minimally invasive treatment option for revision surgery of ASD, especially for elderly patients. Background: Arthroscopic surgery has been established as an efficacious intervention for the treatment of rotator cuff tears. The primary aim of this study was to analyze the modifications in the lateral acromial angle (LAA) subsequent to rotator cuff repair surgery using single‐row rivet fixation and double‐row rivet fixation techniques. Furthermore, we sought to investigate the influence of LAA on the prognosis of rotator cuff repair surgery. Method: This observational study retrospectively enrolled 105 patients diagnosed with degenerative rotator cuff tears who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair between 2016 and 2019. Following the exclusion of two patients with subscapularis or superior labrum anterior and posterior (SLAP) tears, as well as three patients who were lost to follow‐up, a cohort of 100 patients was included for clinical and imaging evaluation. Among these individuals, 50 were assigned to the double‐row repair group, whereas the remaining 50 comprised the single‐row repair group. Bilateral shoulder magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans were conducted no less than 24 months post‐surgery. Experienced arthroscopic surgeons, blinded to the LAA measurements, assessed the rotator interval (RI) using a control MRI. Functional assessment was performed using the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) quick disability of the shoulder and arm, shoulder and hand (qDASH) score. The Wilcoxon signed‐rank test for dependent samples was employed to compare data between the pre‐ and post‐intervention groups. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to evaluate the relationship between different parameters. Results: The study population consisted of 73 female patients and 27 male patients, with a mean age of 58.32 ± 5.29 years and a mean follow‐up duration of 25.88 ± 8.11 months. Preoperatively, the mean LAA was 75.81° ± 11.28°, RI was 4.78 ± 0.62, UCLA score was 17.54 ± 2.44, and qDASH score was 2.45 ± 0.25. The average tear size was 8.95 ± 2.11 mm. A statistically significant difference in LAA was observed between the preoperative and postoperative measurements, with the double‐row repair group exhibiting a greater LAA than the single‐row repair group. Finally, a significant correlation was identified between LAA, RI, and qDASH scores after a 24‐month follow‐up period. Conclusion: According to our findings, the utilization of double‐row rivet fixation has a greater LAA angle than single‐row rivet fixation.
